Wayne Kramer and Sylvester Stallone team up for HEADSHOT!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of interesting news from The Hollywood Reporter. Wayne Kramer's Running Scared is one of those movies that I see is growing a fanbase, which pleases me very much. I dug it upon release, bought the DVD and haven't revisited it since then, but I really loved the twisted fairy tale aspect to it. It tried something different and is being rewarded for it by people on DVD.
I also liked The Cooler and who doesn't like Sly? So this teaming makes me very happy, especially since HEADSHOT seems to be a perfect match of star and material. The flick's about a hitman who has to team up with a young NYC detective to exact revenge/solve murders/do actiony stuff.
With Kramer directing a script from THE MESSENGER's Alessandro Camon, I'd have to imagine this concept is going to be handled in a delightfully off-kilter way. I'm also happy to see Stallone taking himself out of his own direction... not that he's bad at directing himself, but there's a certain bigger picture perspective that can be lost when having to juggle too much.
Thoughts?

Am a huge Sly fan of many years now - and am made up that his career has been on a definite upswing. Yep, this is good news all round, and particularly if it gains a wider release than "Shade" and avoids studio interference like "D-Tox!"
-
Please dude tell us Arnold is back for Expendables 2to and your team and his will be going at it. That is all thank you.
-
sounds like one of the categories in YouPorn..
-
Love that film. It actually made me appreciate Paul Walker.
-
turn into Crazy Town. I didn't really look into the details before renting it, but as soon as the pedo-family showed up with the plastic flooring, I thought, "Definitely the same person as writer/director rather than two people." It's just too damn weird to have been written by one person and directed by someone else. I think Wayne Kramer's going to be in over his head directing Stallone, though. I'm thinking of a McG being in charge and in control of Christian Bale kind of an absurdity.
-
Cops and Robbers have never been Stallone's strong point. He usually kicks major a$$ on military or boxing films. Officially not pumped over this announcement. I would have liked to see Stallone direct either Deadpool or Wolverine.
-
if this is half as good as Crossing Over or The Expendables then it's going to really fucking terrible!!!
-
...there's at least one joke there, but I'm too tired to find it.
-
as well as he did Harrison Fords. And by career, i obviously mean soul... seriously - did you guys see Expendables!
-
... ... oh.
-
I'm still pissed that he screwed Kramer over, and essentially made Crossing Over be cut to shreds. I would love to see Kramer's original version of that film.
-
Stallone needs to hand over that franchise to McTiernan and stick to acting.
-
That'd be interesting...
-
He would have been a little kid, I guess. Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines stole the show. What funny (and suspenseful) movie!

Sly, thanks for one of the best, making of, docs for Expendables.

Don't see a lot of them that detail rich nowadays. Really shows a lot of the process with pre, pro, and post production. Enjoyed watching it.

Was a good movie imo. I think it's funny when people go all Ebert & expect more from an action movie. An action movie crammed w/ action stars w/ the intent of showing action, explosions, & gratuitous violence. Also, Stallone's career needs no resurrection. Rocky Balboa, Rambo, & The Expendables all did good numbers. More importantly, they all, especially the latter, has a huge fan following. I'm amped about Expendables II, & as long as they bring the action, it's getting my $(especially when it hits BluRay). Btw, Running Scared was great too, even w/ Paul Walker.
-
Sly won a lot of goodwill with Rocky Balboa and Rambo...but he pissed it away with The Expendables. He wasted all that growth hormone and workouts for nothing. Why work on your physical appearance for a film if you're going to top it off with a douchey goatee and a beret?
-
I can't wait to see Stallone kick some ass in a crime/action vehicle. It's been ages since he went that route. Wayne Kramer and Stallone seemed made for each other. Kramer has a strong visual style and Stallone has proven that he's not afraid to go balls out in the action and violence. I'm salivating at the thought of an intense Running Scared styled up flick in the Stallone canon. I think this one is going to come in under the radar and kill with the precision of a lethal throat gouge.
-
I love Sly and all, but come on, it seems that he's only successful with the film he directs on his own, I think "Head Shot" will bomb.
-
Shows you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Running Scared is nothing like a Tarantino film - aside from Tarantino himself being a big fan of RS. It's closer to Walter Hill on steroids. Or Run Lola Run without the repeating storyline. It's not a jokey, overly talky, pop music-pop culture riff on nothing at all. It's a fucking ride. To the Dark Side. A dump into the abyss. You'll come out dirty - not unlike THE CHASER or I SAW THE DEVIL. And I give Paul Walker huge props for bringing it. But, yeah, keep hating... and working on your screenplay.

i agree w/ indyjones on that one. These guys that run this
by tamethecunt
site just love to give QT a blow job every chance they get. And Sly doesn't have a good record playing hitmen it seems. The one w/ the W. Brothers was awful. The remake of the Michael Cain one sucked, although it was nice to see Mickey again. Avenging Angelo just straight to dvd rubbish. I"m probably forgetting a couple more.

Lots of interesting directors coming out of SA these days. Neil Blomkamp, Gavin Hood, Wayne Kramer.
-
Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, and I want to see it, but it also sounds like it's been done. Whereas The Expendables even though it was an 80s movie done last year brought Sly to places we hadn't seen him. I'm looking forward to the Expendables sequel, and anything Sly brings us. I've already said the next Rambo needs to be bitter crippled alcoholic Brian Dennehy in a wheelchair with David Caruso as the sheriff, and Dennehy's Gulf/Afghanistan war Special Forces son trying to avenge his father now that Rambo is back in the states. Feel free to steal this idea Sly.
-
Usually when Sly does a movie he's directing like Rocky, Rambo or the Expendables, the talkbackers would be all over it. Now that he's doing a movie he isn't directing, just kind of shows that "Headshot" will bomb in theater. Sly is only successful with his own films. Fact!
-
Meh director and uninspired concept. I thought Sly was doing expendable 2 next anyway, but I guess not. Were he to work with a great director or return to the sci fi genre I would be a lot more excited.

After The Mechanic and The American and You Kill Me (which I liked a lot) and Hitman and...
by openthepodbaydoorshal
And I forgot that Michael Keaton directed movie no one saw... Do we need another hitman - on one last job/brought back from retirement/teamed to make an odd couple/fill in the godamm blank - movie? I've liked Kramer's stuff so far, and thought The Messenger was a very good drama, so maybe they can pull it off.

umm.. YES.. Running Scared was a very very twisted fairy tale.
by mcgillj
It's been.. well since the ORIGINAL dvd release when I saw it.. but thought it was quite well done, since I had ZERO frame of reference of WHO Paul Walker was.. I quite enjoyed it.. but as someone said.. its like going down the rabbit hole.. and you just keep dropping.. I was .. not really a huge fan of The Cooler.. still haven't seen Crossing Over.. might be interesting if Sly has the material.. and a STRONG director.. could be something NEW for Sly.. although I hope they are at least going for a REAL movie.. and not some DTV crapola..

I remember RUNNING SCARED as a buddy cop movie with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines...now THAT'S a fairy tale!

Was Statham flying that plane and napalming the dock. Besides that the movie was a huge letdown. I'd take Rambo over Expendables any day!
