Pre-Toy Fair we have your first look at Hasbro's Transformers Prime toys!

Published at:  Feb 07, 2011 5:34:51 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It's not every day you're asked by Hasbro if you want to premiere a new line of Transformers toys, so sight unseen I said yes. Sure, I was thinking more big boy toys in my brain, but still... I had a ton of Hasbro toys as a kid, so it's still cool to be able to debut some new toy images as Toy Fair looms.

The figures are from Transformers Prime, the new Transformers cartoon. More specifically they're from an Entertainment Pack that contains an assortment of figures from the show, including the human characters, Optimus and Megatron. Hope you guys enjoy the images!

Thanks to Joe Moscone at Hasbro for the images!

What do the children transform into?

    by xevoid

The one with the purple shirt should transform into a Packer player. I mean, seriously, did you SEE their sideline jerseys? Purple/Lavender shirts and YELLOW pants? Who was the team color palette designer for that one, scooby-doo? Seriously.

And this kid should transform into one of them.

The midget without a mouth scares me.

    by sweeneydave

But that's because of my horrible childhood experience where I was left alone with a mouthless "little person". It was awful. I had to use it's eyesocket for things unmentionable since it had no mouth. And when I say "unmentionable" I mean you'll have to see it on the big screen in a room full of people so it can "transform" you the way it "transformed" me.

    man, toys suck again.

    by zombot

for a while, toys available in department stores were looking pretty good. the mcFarlane toys made designers really compete (and many actually topped mcfarlane stuff).
then something happened and i'm not sure when but toy designers stopped giving a shit again.
i understand these are based off of the cartoon, but they're horrible. megatron looks okay in robot form, optimus does not.

but movie figures take the cake for suckiness, awkward poses, figs of horrible lesser characters and grotesque likenesses lately.

    by zombot

they gave me a nice gig designing the zombie themed Cuponk cup...i'm probably shooting myself in the foot for future freelance by saying thes transformers prime toys are lacking, my complaint is more about department store toy lines in general.

    by tko

Why the fuck would AICN review toys??? For toy fans, these have been seen on Transformers toy sites for the past couple of months, so it's rather OLD news. For non-toy fans, this is just shit.

    by atari

  • Optimus, Rachet, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, and a motorcycle character that used to be another vehicle, like Prowl used to be a police car and Arcee, the last memeber of T: Prime Autobots has been a couple of different vehicles.

I just watched the very first Transformers EVER on Hub last week, and OH MY FREAKING GOD were there a TON of Transformers!

Seriously, once the characters got to Earth, every other scene debuted a new Transformer that we hadn't seen before up until that point in the multi-ep premiere of Generation 1. It actually may have been TOO many introduced at once, and it was hard to give any of them adequate time for proper characterazation save for Prime, Megatron, and Starscream.

I was they had a few more Autobots as part of this original team. What really pisses me off is that Cliffjumper was last final member, AND HE WAS VOICED BY THE FRIGGIN ROCK, but they killed him off in the FIRST EPISODE! WTF?!?

would want to buy figures of children from a Transformers toyline? You buy transformers to play with robots that turn into shit, not to get horrible, anime looking kid figures.

I don't know if you're able to link to this mess. But if you can then you know the best ad in history. Imagine if this was a forced setup on all arcade machines imposed by the state. You cannot play unless the machine is as pictured. And it is unlawful to remove the ass planted in front of the machine.

    by fights_for_the_users

I was hoping figures for the show would get made before long. I'm glad that they took the time to make these toys actually look like the characters from TF Prime, which, by the 5 episode mini they did, is shaping up to be the best TF show since Beast Wars. I was hoping they'd have some Soundwave and Starscream images on here, but alas. There are way too many haters on this board.

    @prestigeworldwide

    by fights_for_the_users

It was easier in the 80s to introduce new transformers every episode. All they had to do was draw them. For a 3D show that has the kind of quality that TF Prime has (aside from lipsyncing issues), I'm willing to bet it gets expensive to voice, model, texture, rig, animate, and render each transformer they have on there already.

Sure, the roster is a bit light in the new show, and I hope they change that, but they're doing a good job so far, especially for being born out of the writers of the 2nd movie (which I really didn't like).

They make the humans from this series,

    by dennis_moore

but only the bootleggers make Sari et al from Transformers: Animated? Sad how much attention the Bay garbage gets, though Prime and Megatron don't look as horrible as their overly busy movie counterparts do. To add insult to injury, the past few years of Bayformer figures knocked the Universe Classic releases off the shelves, forcing us to go to the highway robbery ebay sellers. And we never got Wheeljack. The crappy G.I. Joe movie also foisted the terrible movie figures on us for a few years, ending the much loved and unfinish Anniversary line. The execs in charge at Hasbro are out of their minds; though, whoever greenlit War for Cybertron should be promoted to CEO. At the very least, for our troubles, they could give us another series set in the TF: Animated-verse...
