Cobie Smulders to play S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in THE AVENGERS?!?
Hey folks, Harry here...
The following picture was the closest looking outfit to a S.H.I.E.L.D. costume that I think I've seen that Cobie Smulders has worn. I told ya I thought the Female Sidekick role that Sam Jackson was yapping to Jimmy Fallon about was most likely just a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. But not only is she a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but a legitimate hardass, at least in the comic Mavel Universe... That's MARIA HILL.
That being said, I'm not entirely sure if Maria Hill is "sidekick" material - she's more of a political nightmare. But we'll see how Joss Whedon uses the character along with the lovely Cobie Smulders... that's if she comes down with the part. Right now, Mike Fleming has tagged her as the front runner for the part. And says the deal could be done by the end of your Super Bowl hangover.
Well, he didn't put it that way, but I did. All I know is, I really and truly can not believe we're gonna get an AVENGERS movie. It just sounds like crazy awesomery that defies childhood dreaming. There's a part of me that also wants IRON MAN to be in that Silver and Red armor in it. Just cuz... man, I loved that particular armor. But I'm probably the only one. Here's Cobie...

It's my favourite - probably because that is what he was wearing when I started reading Iron Man. I still have a poster somewhere of it. However, I think he only wore this for a few years and wore red and yellow way more so it is probably not going to happen.
As far as this lady playing Maria Hill - that's fine with me - this way she will be to busy to play Wonder Woman and Bridget Reagan can get the job. -

Back when Whedon commented on his never-produced WONDER WOMAN feature script, he dropped the lovely Cobie Smulders' name as who he wanted to play her. Nice to see that he finally got her in something... and I very much look forward to seeing her in a tight-fitting uniform.

I'm old enough to remember the original run, when Steranko came in to ink Kirby's pencils (I think it was Kirby. Maybe Don Heck?). Then he took over the art completely. This guy was so good, so smart, that you could actually SEE his art getting better from issue to issue. Amazing, really. Was also a brown belt in Judo, an escape artist, and a friend of Harlan Ellison. Nice package. Stayed in comics about three years, and then got out to do other things. What a stellar talent!

Two years ago at Comic Con - I was hosting the RADICAL panel - and also upon it was Jim Steranko - who has been a legend in my house since the beginning of my life. My father is a huge Jim Steranko and Barry Smith freak. He had complete runs of every thing they did through 1978 bound in leather volumes, and only on rare moments of goodness was I allowed to read from them.
As a result, meeting Jim was an enormous honor. And man... Jim is the coolest man, that I have ever met. He's a tiny guy, but looks like he is a secret agent that beds the broads. He is swanky. His smile is dazzling - and just the way he holds himself is epic. Then, when you talk to him, his eyes gleam and he has you.
He is totally the man that made Nick Fury so damn cool! -
So fine that she is way too gorgeous to be in any of these stupid comic book movies...even though she was in a Broken Lizard movie...WHy didn't she have a nude scene!

but yeah, I called it. Maria Hill. Hill was a pain in the ass during Civil War, but then Secret Invasion and into Dark Reign, she became pretty badass, working with Fury and Stark. She's a strong female character in power not defined by her relationship to a man.

After seeing Baccarin on V with the short cut and hearing that she and Cobie and Winstead were in the running for Hill I thought for sure that the part would go to Morena.

Agent Hill seemed like such a small part for someone like Winstead, who has enough of a profile where her roles are pretty sizable. It had me scratching my head when I saw her name cause I knew the part wasn't going to be that big. Morena Baccarin profile has moved up some with her on V but she has a history with Joss so I could've seen her taking it. Cobie is not well known so I could see her landing the role. I do think Winstead or Baccarin will get the Wasp if she makes an appearance. Both are a good fit but I'd probably pick Winstead first.

Had to smile at that, my first iron man was issue 208, jan 85 (from memory) drawn by bob layton I think, and stark wore the red and silver armour he wore in secret wars 2. Not the lightweight silver suit from the film, the full-on heavy kit. And this lady is smokin' hot, should be fine as maria.

Smulders is connected to Hannigan, through HIMYM, which Whedon is a big fan of, so it makes sense that Smulders would be on his radar. I think this is great. Cobie is hilarious as hell, and never seems to get opportunities.

I do see that the date and time stamp on when the articled published changed...but I see no difference in the original article. Unless the earlier one got removed on accident perhaps and re-added? But as far as the picture I never had a problem seeing it as some of the others on here.

HIMYM is one of the only bearable ones. It was really great for a couple seasons, but has been hit-and-miss the last couple years. Often disappointing lately, but still better than 90% of the crap on TV.
Raising Hope is another good sitcom still on current television, as is the new Perfect Couples.
I agree that Modern Family, Parks & Rec, 2.5 Men are overrated. I don't like any of those. The Office was once great, but lost its luster years ago. -

Some good comedies are Always Sunny in Philadelphia (until last year) and the first 2 seasons of 30 Rock. Family Guy was good before Seth caught South Park Syndrome where they forget their fucking show is about fart jokes and groin shots and started getting all "Very Special Episode" on us thinking the trite political and social shit is actually insightful.
As for this chick, she's okay. You could definitely get a better looking chick or a better actress for the role but she's decent. Needs to lose 15 lbs. -

...but I love the classic John Byrne comic book issue of THE INCREDIBLE HULK where the red and silver (and bulkier) IRON-MAN, along with others (WONDER MAN, HERCULES, etc.) battled the HULK. That issue ROCKED!!!
