Some Nice, High Resish Pics Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER!!
Merrick here...
Earlier this week, we learned that Joe Johnston's CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER would grace the cover of the newest issue of Empire.
ComingSoon has now posted what appear to be scans of some of the pics featured in Empire's piece about the film. Several of the images they posted, including the photo below, are mighty EMBIGGENABLE.
Click the Captain below to jump to ComingSoon, where you can access a much larger version of the shot appearing herein - and others. This is the first time I've created a clickable image link on AICN since we implemented our new admin/input structure. Hopefully this'll work...and it should work...but lemme know if it doesn't.

Now THAT'S Captain America
-
the link that is.
-
...let's hope the movie does.

okay ummm. He belongs in the Bruce Willis Ving Rhames section of Pulp Fiction.
by chadiwack
Zed's dead baby.
-
wowee, the pink dollar is gonna ring up big time on this one! why exactly have they decided on an homoerotic approach to Captain America? have i entirely missed some gay agenda in the comic books?
-
What the HECK are they for? They make an otherwise decent-looking suit look incredibly stupid.
-
One of the images has some text on it that reads "Below right: Hugo Weaving as villain Red Skull with the 'cosmic cube' Where is that image dammit!
-
Did they get Nolan's approval on having an American play this part? I mean, that kid from Harry Potter is free, I'm sure they could have hired him to do it and bring some classical British acting prowess.
-
Looks like a great practical update to the costume. You look at it and know thats it's cap with out a doubt.
-
. . . NOT. Also, if Cap ain't fighting the Nazis (hell, he punched ADOLF HITLER in face on the cover of Captain America Comics #1), I don't wanna know. HYDRA in the 40s? WTF, Marvel?
-
First I want to say I really do like this costume. I think it's about as good as you can get finding a middle ground between the comic's spandex tights and a 'real-world' compromise. That said, every time I look at this costume I cannot help but think of Rob Liefeld and his million pouches, straps, and buckles he had to put on every single character he 'designed'. At least he doesn't have man-boobs like when R.L. drew him.

Changing the title for the overseas market is bullshit. His name is Captain America, get the fuck over it.
by AzulTool
I know they have to watch the bottom line, but come on...
-
LOL I'm sorry but if people is still buying that Evan is Captain America than I guess believeing in Santa Claus is ok too!
-
Will he be slinging his shield? Huh? HUH?? Please tell me he'll be throwing that thing around like a big round glaive of American-flavored ass-whoop. But it's looking good so far, and I am looking forward to Cap a bit more than Thor at this point. That could change. At least we KNOW that Thor's gonna toss his hammer.
-
he has to throw his shield. There is no way marvel would make a movie without him doing that. Would they?
-
I like that they didn't fully wimp out on the little head wings. It's a good mix of the original Kirby design with live-action practicality.
-
Seriously, look at the crease in his trousers...
-
To really make the helmet look more like the classic mask/cowl.
-
You can't get away with selling action figures and posters with swastikas all over them so you just treat the Hydra octopus like it was the SS death's head.
-
To really make the helmet look more like the classic mask/cowl.
-
Why is that so hard to show?
-
I hope he becomes the actual Red Skull early in the movie and doesn't transform in the last reel, like Destro in G.I. Joe.
-
I find that the straps enhance look of the suit. it makes it look plausible in a real life situation I guess... or maybe he just has a jet pack we dont know about yet?
-
Seriously?
-

Great suit, now get it off the model and onto the actual actor playing the
by Quadrillionaire
role
-
Why is the Human Torch wearing Capitan America's uniform???
-
he will toss the shield. i believe there was a comic con 'teaser-test' where Cap was in shadow and tossed the shield at the camera... of course some stunt guy in costume, but nonetheless the throw was present. we will be seeing Cap in all his kickassedness.
-
I'm not TOO worried about it....it's one of his skills that just SCREAMS for a cinematic realization, after all. But so far, not a single image has even HINTED at it. Hopefully, they're just saving that little nugget as a nice fat stinger to cap off a bad-ass trailer. Can you see a nice long trailer end up with a kick ass shot of Cap slinging his shield, knocking a few Hydra goons out of their boots, and then catching it again and standing there looking like a red, white, and blue tall drink of whoop-ass? I can. Marvel....just let me know when I can get my check....you're welcome.

-
He looks like a kid in a Halloween costume.
-
Golly, I don't know... it's almost enough to make you think this movie were set during WWII, during which soldiers routinely parachuted into combat zones. That can't be right, though - it's not like Captain America was a soldier who fought in WWII and was depicted many times parachuting into battle, and that having parachute straps built into his suit would facilitate said plane jumping. That's just madness.
-
to multi-post. AWESOME-O!!
-
Feb. 3, 2011, 2:31 p.m. CST
At this point I think I'd rather have the classic mask instead of the helmet
by D.Vader
I kind of hate that chinstrap.
-
I was not aware of that little teaser. Now....when for the bad-assity? I hope the Superbowl spot actually has some filmy bits, and isn't a whole lot of text followed my the movie title. That would be le poop de bull.
-
as fast as the revival of superhero movies came... it went away!
-
Its Adamantium is it not? .... Why would it show signs of damage?
-
You're partially correct, Garbage Man, about the era being WWII. They are not parachute starps. You see, fully loaded ammo belts can be quite heavy carrying around day in and day out. To ease the weight off from the hips, suspenders were used to bear the weight on the shoulderes as well. Just ask a vet who had used them.
-
What the fuck did you think a skin-tight suit on a body-builder would look like in real life? Have none of you actually ever read a comic book before?
-
It would be pretty lame to have that pistol there and him not to use it at all.
-
I mean, regular infantry helmets had straps. I have to admit I certainly like the look of the time. I hope it turns out to be decent enough.
-
If i remember correctly they showed him throwing his shield at comic con.
-
His whole costume screams shoot at me, shoot my head, shoot my chest.
-
But NOW...Holy Cap, that's pretty awesome!
-
Hence the bullet proof shield. He is a distraction on the battlefield. He would rather have the enemy shoot him then his fellow soldiers.
-
I Really like it, Good Job Marvel!
-
...a Smallville influenced costume. Maybe this is a glossy image. Maybe I am nightmaring in 1080P
-
Because at this rate, that's what I'm pinning my hopes on for a decent interpretation of Captain America.
-
Then he'd be wearing a bright red jacket, white shirt, and jeans.
-
Feb. 3, 2011, 3:13 p.m. CST
There really isn't anyway to make Captain America look cool.
by BilboRing
Sorry but it just looks doofy.
-
Agreed his costume has always been hooky. But hopefully when cap punches a Nazi in the head with the rim of shield and the strength of Mike Tyson. You will be going holy shit that dudes a bad ass and forgive his costume.
-
bring it on! Unlike the PMS stricken talkbalker majority, I'm looking forward to this flick.
-
and then the head should spin in the air, like in Conan the Destroyer/Red Sonja.
-
Captain Afghanistan!
-
Yeah the chinstrap makes sense- I just dont like it. I'd rather have a mask. But if we're going to have a helmet, I'd like neck protection. But if we're not going to have that, I'd like for the chinstrap to be faithful blue at least. It'd look better in my opinion.
-
and what makes this interpretation not a decent one?
-

Not sure why this outfit is considered any more "believeable"
by Snookeroo
than the one in the comics. If your movie hero is going to run around in a flag costume, why not be true to the source material in the first place? Because this trainwreck looks just as silly - if not MORE contrived - as the original with red buchaneer boots and winged mask. What looks cool in the comics looks ridiculous in real life - ever seen people in cosplay? Painful, ain't it? But it's part of being a superhero -- if you're going to see a superhero movie, it just comes with the territory. Trying to work around that fact kind of misses the whole point in the first place. Silly, colorful costumes are part of what makes superhero comics fun - it's part of what makes the character stand out from an ordinary background. Trying to make the costume more "real" or "grounded" only takes away from the fantastic aspect of the hero. But, I'm a purist - I like to see these characters in live action as they were conceived by their creators. Not watered down in an attempt to draw audiences that the character was never created for in the first place.

Did Leifeld design this??! Even the straps have straps on them!
by FloatingHolmes
The blue part, covered with straps, is connected to the white part by more... straps. What makes the red stripe? Red straps. What keeps his mask on? A chin strap. Straptain America! Lame.
-
does being bent over and pounded by this man seem like a fun endeavor?
-
For everyone wondering why Cap's shield has bullet damage, here are a couple of possibilities. Although the shield may be made of adamantium, the paint probably isn't. So it would inevitably show some wear and tear, especially from large caliber weapons. Or, maybe it's not damage. Or maybe it's just lead residue from bullet hits?
-
if not, Rob Liefeld was surely involved.
-
"Straptain America"<p> Floatingholmes, i'd take out a copyright on that comment right quick! Haha, nice one.
-
Now as long as we get to see him kick six kinds of ass with extreme prejudice, I'll consider shelling out the cash to see this. Here's hoping the superbowl trailer delivers.
-
I think all the straps are cool for the first movie, but once Cap meets up with the other superheroes in The Avengers, and he sees how they manage to wear similar costumes - only without straps - then Cap will start feeling a bit self-conscious.<p> Maybe it will begin with gentle ribbing, with Iron Man teasing him about the straps and then day by day Cap will concede that he's operating with 1940's haute couture and he'll look at hiring a new seamstress who can make him a costume with a few less straps.<p> I can see a nice sub plot developing through The Avengers movie of Cap slowly coming to terms with a suit that doesn't have a strap for every week of the year. I think that could be quite moving and something audiences could relate to.
-
Joe Johnston I am not too sure about but it still looks good
-
Martin Campell showed a lot of promise when he made Goldeneye and finally lived up to that promise years later when he made Casino Royale. I'm hoping for the same from Joe Johnston. He showed a lot of promise when he made The Rocketeer and I hope he finally lives up to that promise with Captain America.
-
i hope and truly believe this is going to be awesome. although captain america is my all time favorite comic character so i may be delusional. but i think not
-
Because - there's a massive sequence of the film that involves aerial stuff and parachuting in on something. It's been in pre-production art from the beginning of this thing.
-
first good chuckle i've had all day, cheers good sir.
-
will be the last thing he does in the movie. Red Skull will have him pinned down/cornered in the gimungus airplane thing, and Cap will throw his shield at the controls, sending it into a nosedive, sacrificing himself while taking the plane down with whatever evil contraption for world domination is on it. Don't ask me how he gets it back to found and thawed out.
-
It's made out of an adamantium/vibranium alloy, it's literally the strongest material in the world...and it has bullet dings in it? Weak.
-
...otherwise there'd be enormous shoulder pads. and enjoy this Liefeld funniness: http://progressiveboink.com/archive/robliefeld.html
-
In the comics it's adamantium.
-
Captain America always seemed like an authority figure, someone much older than they look. I don't get the same thing from Chris Evans, he's just not that guy. It doesn't matter how much muscle he packs on or how you make the suit look. Can you really see him giving orders to Iron Man or Hulk? The leader of the Avengers? I just don't see it. <P> Needs more gravitas.
-

The trailer will be up in a few days during the superbowl
by mistergreen
-
I can see it taking on a more high tech armor look a la TDK on down the road. Let's be honest with ourselves though, scale armor and buccaneer boots ain't gonna look cool. Ever!
-
Why does this look like it was designed in 1998? There's nothing wrong with the costume; it just doesn't look like it was made in the 40s, is all. Also, they better at least *mention* Nazis in the film. Come on.
-
America stands for freedom, not peace.
-

Still CAPTAIN?? Is the guy ever going to make Lieutenant?
by Missing Dink
Just kidding.
-
Loocks ok to bad this is going to BLOOOOOOW
-
I'm just not that impressed by the whole look and vibe of the film... Frankly, it's giving off a rather cheap, flat, workmanlike feel, redolent of something like that Billy Zane car crash The Phantom, and it's in the hands of a journeyman director. I know I'm pre-judging it horribly, but while acknowledging his hand in the scripting of this production I'm more confident that Whedon, with The Avengers, will deliver a Captain America movie which will appear more dynamic and interesting and which is rendered with greater artistic pizzazz.
-
Having a hard time understanding why people are fixating on straps. Could be way worse than a few extra straps. Megaton has a metal vagina for a face. And yes, Evans can be a force of authority in a movie. Watch Sunshine. Such negativity here on the Internet. It's like people come here just to complain or something.
-
... SPOILER.... it comes into play during the climatic fight aboard Red Skull's Cosmic Cube-Powered, Flying Fortress/Giant Plane (I've seen the storyboards and it looks epic to say the least)... and as another posted noted... this event/fight will be what leads Rogers' to his icy suspension in the Arctic!

It's you. Youyouyouyouyouyouyouyouyouyouyouyoueweyouyouyou. You.
-
... SPOILER... One of the pics at commingsoon is of Rogers at the controls of the plane/flying fortress as he pilots it to a crash landing in the Arctic (its the one where he's helmet less and looks beat to hell and back)... he does this because the plane/fortress has become an unstable and destructive kamikaze-like weapon due to the cosmic cube being its source of power... (think of it as 50 flying nuclear power plants in one that's about to crash into a heavily populated area)... Cap sacrifices his life to save (I believe) his home town, New York City...
-
Res Skull pic where are you?!

This rig he's wearing is purely decorative, no? They lost me when they made Galactus a cloud. These shows are not made for people who love comics/and or superheroes.

ROTFLMFAO!!!
-
HELLO??? the henchmen look like rejects from the GI JOE movie! this is going to be a disaster. JOE JOHNSON??
-
Would that have been so goddamned hard? Batman's cowl has bat ears, right? Are they going to turn Prince Namor's ankle wings into tatoos? Will Thor's winged helmet be turned into a Harley cap?
-
I just read on wikipedia that the Human Torch crossed paths with Captain America at one point. So if Hollywood ever films Fantastic Four meeting up with Cap, then is Evans gonna play both roles?
-
Cap is in good hands.
-
If any one of you can draw an adaptation of Cap that would look any better in real life, I'll give you a hundred dollars. The helmet is great, and keeps with the Ultimates look quite well. A mask would look absolutely retarded -- even Batman basically has a helmet in TDK... and we all know how much better that works than the stupid latex cowl that Mike Keaton couldn't even turn his head in. I really like the detail in the suit, too. The depth and detail in the star/abs give it a look of stylized armor without the look of fake abs and bat nipples. Also, the straps give the stripes function, which would look goofier than all hell otherwise. I can tell a lot of thought went into this suit, and I truly believe it's the best representation of Cap that we can get, and should be thankful it's as true as it is. He's got the shield, the star, the stripes and even the wings. This is a living, breathing Cap... and I'm psyched. If you really think fish scales and buccaneer boots would look better... well, there's no reasoning with madness. Heh.
-
not sure why in every pic the suit looks oddly airbrushed...
-
But I agree that the chin strap makes it look like he is on the short bus to the zoo. I would imagine that most of the stuff on the uniform will be explained and given a practical purpose, ala Batman. At least I hope so.

by HadWoodenTeethChasedMobyDick
-
Did Michael Jackson film this before he died? Or did he just fake his death to come back after he finished his sex change?
-
It is chain mail under his suit for protection. I want this to work and I hope it does. One reason for it to be Hydra is that is illegal in Germany to have the swatstika displayed. Why lose out on the whole area if you can just substitute?
-
Feb. 3, 2011, 8:01 p.m. CST
Now I'm convinced they're trying to fuck up Cap.
by Blood_Bubbles_in_Bathwater
Is it a political statement? Wouldn't put it past Hollywood. God, I could almost forgive the rest of it if it weren't for those ridiculous fucking shoulder pads. But not really, because Evans looks like a pouting bitch in these photos. He never had it in him.
-
I would know. I had to stop and pick you up when I was the driver, remember? I always knew where you sat because of the shit stains and the jizz marks. Did you ever take care of those afflictions? (You know, I even tried being nice to you on a couple of these TB's, but oh well.)
-
Who is "they"? Fox holds the film rights and all creative control over the Fantastic Four movies. Marvel does not. Marvel is making Captain America, Fox is not. Fox raped Galactus, not Marvel. Marvel also does/did not control the first Hulk movie (Universal), all the Xmen/Daredevil/Electra films (all Fox), Spiderman films (Sony), and until very recently (post- War Zone), the Punisher films (Lionsgate). You should bitch at the production companies for those fuck-ups, not Marvel. Now if you hated the incredible hulk(reboot) or iron man 1&2, then bitch away. Those were Marvel movies.

Has is been CONFIRMED that the suit will be modernized for AVENGERS?
by 3D-Man
Or are we all just assuming it will be? I dunno, I think it'd be kinda cool if he stuck with that same suit in "present day" or whatever you wanna call it.
-
yep it's gay.
-
I think it would be cool if Tony Stark updated it somehow. Not into full armor like Iron Man, but maybe add some kind of functionality to shield, additional chest armor, something like that.
-
Anyway, as a non-American & someone who knows almost nothing about the character, I think it looks pretty cool. <p> & I may be wrong, but just an idea..does he ever carry his shield on his back? That might explain the straps. <p> But I don't know. I was brough up to believe that all Americans have a strap on.
-
Gawd, but this looks like direct-to-TV slackishness. You can all get engorged, if you wanna, but, then again, I think all y'all's taste is shit anyway.
-
...should have been reduced, darkened or removed and moved the the chest, replaced with the star...whatever. Really draws attention away from his eyes. Otherwise, he looks great.
-
Something just doesn't sit right with me about this costume. It doesn't look like it's from the period and the gray looks like strips of duct tape. It's not awful, it's just not quite right.
-
So we can see the badass look of determination in his eyes as he's ready to kill a platoon of Nazis. Why they've not taken the smart route of releasing official photos is beyond me. Don't release some cheesy picture of him looking aloof. Release a shot of him looking BADASS ready to fuck some Nazis up. What I really wanted was something akin to a comic book cover, Cap central to the frame, head tilted down, piercing eyes looking upward in your direction. And I really would have preferred the classic mask to the helmet.
-
Its like the dead are rising up in here!
-
My fear is he will only have been Cap for a few months before he gets frozen in the end.
-
i mean look at it
-
I've been here reading & unable to log in for ages. This is the first time I've written under the new format. <p> My password stopped working after the infamous Uwe Boll Nazi basketball TB. I assumed I was banned unfairly, so I wrote to Harry & he sent a forward to the tech guy, asking him to help a "frustrated & long-winded reader". <p> Cheeky fucker:-). <p> I thought "That's rich, coming from a guy who starts a review with his childhood memories, then moves on to his favourite meat dishes & ends it with his masturbatory habits:-D". <p> Just gotta work out how to refresh the page without having to sign in again & then to open Harry's articles without my pc crashing, then it's all rock n' roll. Bring out your dead.
-
This gay.
-
Far be it from me to claim to be an expert on the degree of gayness between gay Marvel superhero movies.
-
must make a nice target for a marksman.
-
Um, X-Men? Spider-man? Namor, the submareener? OK. Captain America. Captain America is gayer than Thor. Thor is based on Norse mythology. Those were some tough people, and their mythology sustained them. Captain America is fukken Reaganesque. That's extremely gay. That's "I'm suicidal because nobody complimented me on my jazz hands" gay.
-
They aren't. It's called Web Gear and it's to help bear the load of heavy equipment on your body. It is also referred to as LBE (Load bearing equipment...the old stuff you see in war movies pre-1990s) or LBV (Load bearing Vest...the new shite). And I think it looks KILLER. For the record.
-
Straps aren't bling that accessorize, are they? Captain America straps - fully non-functional, attached-to-nothing-but-my-other-strap-straps. As many others have said --- Duct tape looking. But, of course, all you experts on WW II wear who were born after 1975, go ahead. Talk about how real this all looks to you. Idiots.
-
First place goes to the 70's Superman. Which I think could be improved with other type of fabrics and a more defined "S-shield" for the new movie, without falling in the Superman Returns failed costume attempt. 2nd place Raimi's Spiderman. 3rd Place Cap. (Iron Man would be first, as far as faithfulness to the look of the comic, but it's not truly a costume, is it?) And colorful superhero costumes (like Cap's or Superman's), in a way, make sense. They want the bad guys to focus on them, and not on regular citizens.
-
it's for my parachute. Course, it's sewn right into the fabric of around my shoulders. I don't parachute. See the strap around my waist? it don't keep my pants up, neither.
-
I guess that's how he is able to carry the shield on his back.
-
That is, they have to be loose from the rest of the fabric. Those aren't straps.
-
Um, how can a costume that doesn't look anything like the comic book costume be comic-booky? Never mind. Obviously, you have a theory. I'm not going to convince you otherwise.
-

You're sitting down there with scum like Wertz and Ramirez.. oh yeah, Gordon,
by CT1
Looks good, I'm glad the people who designed it watched the little behind the scenes segment on how the TDK suit was conceptualized. "Now for high altitude jumps, you're gonna need oxygen and stabilizers.. although I must say, compared to your usual requests, jumping out of an airplane is pretty straightforward." "And what about getting back into the plane?" "I'd recommend a good travel agent." "Without it landing." *smile* "Now that's more like it, Mr. Wayne... the CIA had a pro-grum back in the 60's of getting their people out of hotspots called 'Skyhook'.. we could look into that." "Yeah." "Ok. Now." *motions with fingers* "Hardened kevlar plates, over titantium dipped tri-weave fibers.. for flexibility. You'll be lighter, faster, more agile." *whisk KA-THUMP!* "Perhaps you should read the instructions first?" *husky whisper* "Yeah." "Now there IS a trade-off.. separation of the plates makes you more vulnerable to knives, and gunfire." "Ah, we wouldn't want to make things too easy, now would we?" *slurred voice* "How will it hold up against dogs?"
-
If you guys saw IM2 the Shield was in pretty shitty shape Im guessing the shield he has in the 40's is not made of the Adamantium Vibraniums alloy. But When he Joins the Avenger there will be a good update on everything for better or worst.
-
His flesh looks all....mannequiny...
-
"Ah, this is the Penguin, and this is a stick up. All you richy-riches line up and give me your expensive baubles." "Bruce Wayne, where are you going?" "I've got to sneak out." "They'll kill you!" "No. I'm stealthy, and I 'll be right back after seventeen costume technicians adhere my suit which comes in twenty molded rubber muscle pieces." "We'll all be dead by then, and The Penguin will have gotten away." "I don't think so." "Why?" "Um, it's in the brilliant script by Christopher Nolan's --- you've heard of him, right? --- well, his brother wrote the script, and, anyway, they've told me the four hours it takes to put on this ridiculous suit is exactly the amount of time that the contemporary audience will accept as realistic." "Oh. Well, OK, then. Out the back way."

Is this the rock-n-roll we deserve or the rock-n-roll we need? Um, this is the rock-n-roll we need right now, even though we don't deserve it. What about later? Sequel, baby. Man, you piss me off. I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you either. Alright. Um, did we just tell each other what's what? I dunno. I dunno either. Donut matter then. Guess not. Jebus, Chris Nolan is BRILLIANT.

we can clearly see that the bat-suit rests as one piece when bruce isn't wearing it. in-movie, obviously bruce can put the suit on much faster than behind the scenes. if we're going to dismiss aspects of a film because we are aware of their lack of real world practicality, then we're going to dismiss just about every superhero suit worn since superman:the movie along with many other products of movie magic where we're intended to suspend our disbelief. superman:the movie..no way he would be able to cram that cape under a suit and not have it be noticeable. also, a turquoise suit was worn for the flying scenes. spider-man..we see shots of tobey being able to take off the mask with ease..same with the boots and gloves. yet, in most shots we can clearly see the suit is one seamless piece..not to mention that the mask had a faceplate in it to retain that comic book profile. interestingly, some of the most practical suits were the x-men suits..but those were rejected too.
-
Coming Soon seems to have missed the pic of Red Skull AND Stanley Tucci... hopefully he updates the article on here with them.
-
We're missing the REAL issue here; that being: one piece or not, how many combined hours do you think Batman has spent putting black makeup around his eyes while people are being raped and killed by the Joker's henchmen?
-
I like the idea of the straps being built-in for storing the shield on his back, which we see all the time in the comics. It gives the hokey gut stripes purpose, and I'm all for that. Complaining about the pouches is like complaining about Batman's belt; Cap has limited abilities - not quite as all-natural as Batman, but not too far off from that - so pouches and gadgets are a necessity. I hear a lot of complaints but no advice for improvement... shocking, I know. If anyone can do better, though, I'm honestly interested in seeing it, though I really don't think it can be done. This is a badass costume -- surprisingly true to the source but still somewhat believable, and will look far less pitiful beside Iron Man, Thor, Fury and the rest than spandex over chainmail, wings sprouting from a mask and pirate boots/jazz hand gloves.

That's exactly what your momma said when her back alley doctor asked what she wanted to do with her deformed, genderless, nearly-suffocated-by-its-own-umbilical-cord newborn right after you tumbled backwards out of her hotdog hallway, which I'm assuming occurred somewhere between 9 and 50 years ago, depending on the level of mental damage(I'm leaning toward 50). "No one cares"... Jesus. Kids these days don't even try to troll anymore. It's sad, really.

The Captain America suit is just so inherently ridiculous
by MattmanReturns
The dude is wearing an American flag in the middle of battle. He might as well be a country western singer. I've always hated Captain America... but I loved the Rocketeer, so I'll give it a shot.
-
That suit is horrendous. I'm getting a G.I. Joe vibe from it.
-
I know a lot of you are fearful your "I am so above it all" card will be revoked if you don't reach your whining and "thats so gay" quotient each month, but PUHLEEZ... Take a look at THE ULTIMATES. Look at what Cap is wearing, during WW2, in that series. Does that dovetail with all the other portrayals of Cap, over the decades the character has been drawn? No. It is an attempt to imagine what a "practical" battlefield Captain America costume MIGHT look like - without just scrapping the whole thing since, as noted, the basic costume is NOT practical or "realistic". Same thing here. If nothing but the classic, standard, totally unaltered Kirby-esque CA costume will do for you, fine. We got it. Point noted about a zillion times.
-
Most of the exclusives, especially picture wise, seem to come from this great magazine.
-
and whoever asked about the parachute straps......probably for a parachute, or its some kinda harness for the shield. One other thing, and this may be considered spoiler territory.................... It said in the article that he goes on some kind of pledge drive in the states, and wears a costume that is much closer to the original comics version.

This movie will end with him getting cryogenically frozen...
by ChickenStu
and he'll be thawed out at the beginning of "The Avengers". That's what I reckon.
-
red skull image....lets do this...we are ready...
-
Just for a sec take the time to realize how stupid the name is: "captain america". WTF? What kind of name is that? So obvious what that is all about... Right, propaganda! A character to scare off nazis and unite the nation to go in to WW2. Maybe it worked back then, but common, not anymore. Still have to laugh..."America...fuck yeah!". You americans pffffff...
-
Nothing is clicking with me about that one at all. From the interrogation scene(Clark Gregg trying to be a tough guy would be laughable if it wasn't so embarrassing; I really hope that whole scene was filmed just for the trailer) to the drama between Thor and Odin, it all comes off like a high school Shakespeare production. That, plus Thor with a heavy Australian accent("Oeoeoh Noeoeo, thieis ieis Ueuth, isn't ieit?")... I want it to work. Really, I do. I love me some Marvel superheroes, but... yeah. Marvel really needs to knock it out of the park with Cap if they're going to want any steam heading into the Avengers(or want to keep a decent budget for it, anyways), because Thor is looking like a polished turd.

I'M PRAYING THEY MAKE A 2-HOLE CAPTAIN AMERICA BLOW-UP DOLL
by BringingSexyBack

that was the bulletproof triangular badge shape. The one he had before they gave him the circular one. Comic book storyline says that the Black Panther's father gave the first one to him - which was later displayed in Wakanda as a national treasure. Then a second triangular one was issued to him later (which Rogers still has in his personal effects after WWII). Then the first iconic circular one was presented to him by President Roosevelt. That would be cool to Cap's back story. These early shields weren't made out of adamantium steel-vibranium alloy. It wasn't till he was with the Avengers that he gets the indestructible shield. Also Caps original costume had no neck coverage. I believe there was a comic where it came off...leading to the more cowl like look. I think the little stuff like that would really enhance the movie...oh well...here's hoping.
-
The badge-shaped shield WILL apparently be appearing earlier in the film. Do a quick google search and you'll see it. Pretty spiffy the lengths they've gone to make this movie true to the character geeks know while making it look REAL.
-
OK, I was a little weary when I heard Evans was cast but I'm convinced. He owns the role. This looks friggin great. And that shot has the WOW! Factor. Someone should make a poster of it.

about these characters insist on commenting on & complaining about them?!! I mean WTF? If I'm not a fan of something or aware of the details about a property, I'M not going to assume the right to make critiques about an adaption of it in any medium. Why make an ass of myself? One innocuous example being the comment from an individual who'd read somewhere that in the comics, Cap & the Human Torch had "crossed paths". Uh, they MORE than "crossed paths", they routinely teamed up in countless adventures while fighting the Nazis during WWII. BUT, that wasn't the Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm ( who wasn't even born yet ). It was the android Human Torch whose structure would eventually go on to become another member of THE AVENGERS in the Vision.
-
There were a ton of directions they could have gone here. And let's face it, they took the path of least resistance and tried to do a "Batman Begins" makeover on the Captain America uniform. Stop kidding yourselves. It looks silly. It's all over the place. The helmet make Evans look like a kid. It doesn't work. BUT - I do hold out hope that the "modern" era suit (if the rumors are true) will look a little better in subsequent movies. If the story conceit is that Steve Rodgers sort of cobbles this uniform together as he's tearing ass around trying to stop The Red Skull, I'll accept how slipshod it looks a little better. We'll see. My confidence in this flick is swiftly draining - but not so much that I won't give it a chance.

They sure are trying their best to avoid the gay factor of Capt. GAYMERIKKKA
by AsimovLives
And they are kinda suceeding. It doesn't look all that good, but it's still far better then i was expecting.

Captain Gaymerikkka, to moist the asses of american jingoists everywhere
by AsimovLives
Late 2011.
-
Capt Gaymerikkka is wholesome homoerotic. It's what made him appealing to his fans. And Bucky. With a sidekick called Bucky, it's all beyond evident. He migth as well been called Loreene.
-
I know who has control on each property. It's the whole approach I'm finding demoralizing. Oh well, there are always Marvel Masterworks.
-
If you are not seeing the gay vibe in the pic above, it means you are in denial. In-the-closet denial. Heteros can seen the gay in things, it doesn't affect their sexuality. Only in-the-closet denials are blind to the gay vibes. Granted, the pic above has far less gay vibes then it was to be expected, but it's still there. It's Captain Gaymerikkka, after all. It comes with the territory (pun intended).

Capt. Gaymerikka, from the director who couldn't save THE WOLFMAN
by AsimovLives
My excitement for this movie couldn't be any lesser.

The extra K makes all the difference.
-
...willpower...resist...handicap joke...
-
You mean the director who was brought only a few scant weeks before production? And what, you're surprised at that? Looking to blame him for it?
-
quit talking shit, now your going of on one. Lets compare and contrast. Is Capatain America like Gregory Peck from The Guns of Navarone? Yes. Is Gregory Peck from The Guns of Navarone like Cyclops from Xmen? Yes. Is Cyclops from X men like Captain America? Yes. Do any one of these people or their undderlying words with others obviously signify their gay if you read between the lines other than Gregory Peck from Guns of Navarone? No. Jesus man surely when you had your exams at school they had that question like:<p> "All Larks are Arcs. Some Arcs are Narcs. Are all Larks Narcs?"<p> C'mon man.
-
the finger cannot be pointed at Johnston for Wolfman. It doesnt pain me to admit it like it does for Xmen3, but...
-
Let me just say that after reading MARSHALL LAW, i never saw Captain Gayassmerikkka the same way again.
-
now im going to read MARSHALL LAW. It better have Superman Returns like raring read-between-the lines subtext, or its not me who's the bitch.
-
How are things in portugayl these days? So sad that you couldn't take sex-ed and drivers-ed on the same day, too much stress on the goat! The envy you show for the U.S. is sad really, especially coming from someone from Europes Sphincter! But cheer up little guy, they named the only dinosaur found in your hometown (cave/rock) in your honor, the Almadasoreass! What.A.Cunt.
-
Spot on what? Baggy, brown and grey, strap covered, side-armed, chin-strapped helmet... Quick, what super-hero am I describing? Captain America, of course! It's spot on. Let's all eat dick.
-
Sudden impact....

or wolf his cookies

do they know how too........

It's the comic where Superman's baby craft lands on the USSR in the cold war and Superman grows to become Super Commie. It shows what Superman would be like if his eagerness to absorve the values of his adopted land were not american but soviet. He's the same character, only commie. Fantastic comic. And the ending is quite clever and unexpected.
-
Actually, what suprised me about the pic is that ther eis less gayness then to be expected. They did a good job, i have to admit. But the gayness is still there, because it's Captain America. You can never take away the gay off Captain America, evne if you scrubbed him with lye.
-
A guy gave me Red Son about 6 yrs ago because he didnt think much of it (amongst other things he did like!) and i was kind of suprised, i found it very interesting, its really impressed me actually in that it could have taken a very pedestrian-obvious check-list of gimmicks to the concept, but Millar went furthur in exploring certain issues & Supermans identity.<p> It didnt stick with me so much in my mind like other graphic novels i read around that time, but that was when i was finishing off stuff like Sandman, getting into Transmetropolitan for the first time, loads of great other classics and new single issues coming out.
-
You have proof? You really are an insulting idiot sometimes.
-
The straps will be removed digitally in post production
-
First, all you jackasses who aren't even fans of Cap should leave the room. Okay, now that those dickheads are gone, if you look at the first few ishes of CA his mask was indeed as it is portrayed in this movie sans the chin straps. The straps makes sense given that the half-face mask would never stay on in real life, covered previously by John Byrne. Also, the suit has to respect the materials, function and sensibility of the time period. Naturally when making a suit for Cap they would start with a basic paratrooper-type uniform and go from there. The suit has to sit within the time period so that when he gets freezed and emerges in present day for the Avengers his outfit can then be updated into the modern era, probably reflecting more toward the Ultimates look. And finally, the shield starts out with the classic trident look, then goes to the round one but not necessarily the adamantium one, they may wait on that concept to get Tony Stark involved. Also, just because it has bullet skid marks on it doesn't mean it's 'damaged', black shoes leave marks on a basketball court but the wood beneath isn't harmed.

If RD Jr even bothers to do the Avengers movie he's going to phone it in
by Knuckleface
'Junior' said that he thought the script for Iron Man was lame, and he improvised most of the best stuff. Thor and Cap seem to be born of even lesser material. Does not bode well for an Avengers film. Meanwhile, without Jon Favreau to pitch ideas off of, I doubt Junior will even sign on for the movie. If he does, he'll be phoning it in for the paycheck.
-
Gays in the Military 101 just got a poster boy.
-
The Art Dept. REALLLLLY dropped the ball on that helm. Honestly, I probably would have kept the suit as they designed it... but the helm.. I would have gone in a completely different direction... a full facial mask/helm with wings... like Hawkman... but the wings shrunk wayyyy down (redesigned nose piece)... CA's colors... and the mask could possibly cover the mouth. I like the diabolical brows from Hawkman's helmet. <br> http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/8/81197/1573224-hawkman_joeprado.jpg <br> I like the central part of this helmet... the eyes... how it wraps down on both sides of his cheeks... etc.
