New CAPTAIN AMERICA Photo! Bucky's Got A Gun!
Beaks here...

And there's your first look at Sebastian Stan as Steve Rogers's cohort James "Bucky" Barnes - which seems to confirm Badass Digest's Devin Faraci's assertion that Marvel had opted for the generally well-regarded Ed Brubaker iteration of the character. This Bucky might very well be more of a killer than a bland, non-lethal sidekick. I've never read the Brubaker run (again, my comic book reading post-1989 is very spotty), but I love the idea. This would also mean that Bucky will eventually become the brainwashed assassin Winter Soldier. Sounds cool.
This photo, and two others, appeared today at the French comic book site Les Toiles Heroiques. We'll be getting the first official look at CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER this Sunday during the Super Bowl. What do you guys think?

From Glee.

Hopefully they bring it on Sunday. That'd be the Schmidt!

Three CA and three Avengers? Man, that is some bet hedging going on...

without his visor, shooting a gun

...the fact that he's not wearing the domino eye mask, is a little disappointing. And he should have red gauntlet gloves, too, but I get that they may have looked a little too "comic booky" in reality. Still, I'm a purist. However, it does look like he's got the bucaneer shirt (or whatever they're called) -- the shirt that has like a flap that goes all the way across the front of the shirt with two rows of buttons. I think the Rawhide Kid wore one of those too. So far, so good from everything I've seen so far! Fingers crossed...

...from BEYOND THE GRAVE!!!!!

Make a great Scott Summers. Hmmmm. Is 3 Marvel characters too much?
-
it's Joe 'Rocketeer' Johnston that turns up and not Joe 'Jurassic Park 3' Johnston.
-
LOL!..good posts!
-
has the "he's not american" whining started yet?... guess not many people know the actor is from Romania...

(Seriously, I have no beef with Romanians in general or this actor in particular...)

Last week you let out that Bane broke Batmans back and now you are revealing that Captain America's sidekick turns into a nasty. Not everyone reads comic books guys, some of us wait for the films and do not want to know how it is going to end or where the character arcs are going. Some of us like surprises. You bastards.

That has to be the shittiest photo to ever become a headline on this site.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
The photo is super shitty quality, why couldn't AICN use a spy photo instead?
-
superhero news without any reference to the comics that they are based on? come on, mang
-
have the same kind of "unusual" relationship that Batman and Robin have?
-
On most every cover of Captain America Comics that Bucky appears on, he's either: captured and getting ready to be killed; getting ready to brutally kill some bad guys; or he's brutally killing some bad guys. My personal favorite's issue 53, where, with a sick grin on his face, he's blowing a guy's face off with a rifle, point-blank. The issues where he's using a bat to bust some skulls or burning people alive with flamethrowers are close seconds. XD

Three cap films, three avengers films, and what were the other other three? Secret Wars? Invaders?
-
In the Brubaker series they acknowledge the Teen sidekick was a propaganda ploy. In reality Bucky was a scout, Sniper and "Wet Works Specialist" Since Captain America wore the flag, he was supposed to represent the ideals or America during wartime. Bucky represented the realities of what had to be done.
-
instead of sitting through a faggy sport that's a total waste of time.
-
A movie adaption based on Brubaker's first arc of Captain America would be awesome, but I doubt Hollywood could do it any justice.

The obvious fact this kid's NOT wearing a costume suggests that Bucky ISN'T the superhero sidekick he was in Marvel's main titles, but an ordinary soldier, like he's portrayed in The Ultimates titles. This normal Bucky isn't turned into a Soviet cyborg assassin and eventually the new Capt. America. He, like every other surviving WW2 soldier simply comes home, gets married, raises a family and gets old. People thinking this photo means anything else are just setting themselves up for a big disappointment. Hollywood doesn't care about Bucky Barnes at all.
-
No matter how I look at this pic, I can't see this as anything other than Bucky wearing Colonial officer's dress blues. Completely ruins the image for me.

timothy_olyphants_oliphaunt posted. It's better than the one on this page. http://tinyurl.com/4rwxjk2

by stu_pickles

Used to be Bucky stays dead. Even that didn't last. Sigh.
-
If they could make a Bucky Spin off movie that would be awesome.

Why?

Looks like a extreme close up on a extra from Star Trek Enterprise.

He's NOT a superhero, he's just a normal soldier doing his job killing Nazis. And they didn't wear masks. This is Ultimates Bucky, not standard Marvel "Robin-clone" Bucky.

Outside USA, Cap is seen as the idiot counterpart for Superman: a mikeymousesque "hero" that just obeys its country with a silly smile on its face. USA patriotism is not really popular today. Do american like this meh hero?
-
He's intentionally carrying smallpox back to Europe in the hope of wiping out the entire population.
-
There's a point where it just can't be considered a a spoiler anymore. I really can't even tell if you're being serious. I mean, that Bane story is 15 years old. *spoilers* In other news, Ahab doesn't survive his battle with the whale, and Kennedy gets shot in Dallas.
-
Just read over at Totalfilm.com
-
I like the winter soldier idea also.
-
Looks like Kurt Hummel from Glee. Too bad it's not, since he's a really talented kid.
-
We know there is a movie called Captain America. We know what the costume looks like. We know the cast. Can we now forget it until it actually opens? Is that too much to ask?Or are we going to get photos of Captain America shitting in the loo...Bucky chocking his lizard in the shower....Red Skull making cookies...?? Enough already!
-
Looks like his origin deviates greatly from the original comics, and is more a hardcore soldier than an amusing sidekick. Anyway, I think his character will work better in this reimaging.
-
I am getting the sort of " To be continued!" vibes you got with the old school Flash Gordon RKO type saturday morning serials. There is no reason to have Captain America go straight into the 21st century after the first movie. If the Captain America sereis runs to six movies have the first three set during WWII and have the third one at the end of WW2 having Cap giving President Truman a dressing down in the Oval Office just after the Hiroshima nuke, (just like Brubaker done in his comic run) A good example would be having Captain America in a beach assault type scenario that we saw in Speilberg's Saving Private Ryan. EXCEPT THERE IS ONLY CAPTAIN AMERICA ON THE BEACH!! Taking out several Nazi platoons by himself!! I would pay to see that AT LEAST TWICE in the cinema!
-
Bucky would "take point" on the beach with a sniper rifle!
-
"This would also mean that Bucky will eventually become the brainwashed assassin Winter Soldier." Uhh... how does it mean that, exactly? You should probably qualify that sentence with a few "maybes" and a "possibly."
-
I can see that happening in some countries, but honestly thats bullshit. Cap is the Man! He was created almost as a counterpart to the nazi propaganda that was going on at the time. Anyone thats sees him as an "idiot counterpart to superman" doesnt know cap. In fact, in the comics, captain america stood against the united states during the superhuman registration act. Captain America is the kind of superhero that stands for what he believes in and aside from corrupt politicians and the occasional ignorant person America is the bees knees.
-
multi-grain Cheerios, in fact.
-
The whole sidekick little boy thing is outdated and well... gay. They should have left him out. Nobody would cry about it i'm sure.

WASN'T THIS GUY IN THE COVENANT A.K.A. THE CRAFT BUT WITH DUDES?
by Meadowe
Cuz I thinq he was the one who had the stupidest line in the fliq (and that whole movie was a pos btw) where during the end fight he said "ooooooh, witchy! did I just say witchy?" Anyway, if he is (too lazy to google him) I'm glad he has a higher profile fliq and that it may redeem his appearance in covenant.

He has the stock in the middle of his chest.
