Why this SUPER BOWL will be Super? Captain America TV Spot! I'm dying!
Hey folks, Harry Here...
I'm dying to see the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA tv spot that will run during the SUPER BOWL, according to USA TODAY. That Joe Johnston is giddy about the film, well, Joe doesn't get that way. He's genuinely excited about this film. That's excellent. It means his fetishry has been met, and Joe's fetishry is extremely geek friendly.
We're also going to be seeing the CAPTAIN AMERICA one sheet this Friday!
And the official rush to the film begins. I find myself dying to see real footage. The stills, shots from set, the pre-production art... all of it has just been exciting. To see a real CAPTAIN AMERICA movie - mostly set in WWII - has been a life long dream. This could be magical if done right. So much will be determined by Chris Evans' performance. It'll either instantly be wrong - or note perfect. We each individually have a Captain America in our heads... for me, I believe I've always thought of the voice of Captain America as Gregory Peck from GUNS OF NAVARONE. I'm not expecting that from Chris Evans... but his voice should be... reassuring. Calming in crisis. He's a man with heart and pure bravery. The biggest Eagle Scout ever. And if I get even a hint of any of that - I'll be an insufferable super freak until I see the film.
3 days ago, one of the awesome assistants in Rehab - who is a total geek, who really wants a great DRAGONBALL Z movie someday... he's Freddy... He asked me when we were going to get a look at CAPTAIN AMERICA - and I said, if they're smart at all, it'll be during the SUPER BOWL.
I suppose my fondest wish would actually be for the trailer to be a WWII recruitment ad, using footage from the CAPTAIN AMERICA film... but then I'm a crazy geek that lives in a pretend universe that caters to my every whim. Just as I would hope that the poster would be a WWII propaganda poster, done in Stone Lithography. But again... I have that pretend universe I live in. And there, I see the dream perfectly.
Still, I'm excited. The people that have seen both upcoming items were very excited about them. They couldn't go into detail, but I can't wait. How about you?

Harry geeking out about CAPTAIN AMERICA impending awesomery
-
I've had this movie's back from jump so I'm pretty stoked to finally take a look at a sample of the finished product. Bring it!
-
will he?
-
...he's gonna say "Aw hell no!" and then "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" will come on and a bunch of cars will crash.

I very much love The Rocketeer, so I know he can do a period superhero piece. I re-watched The Rocketeer recently, and I have to say that even 20 years on (and Jesus is that hard to believe), it holds up really well. I'm really really looking forward to this.

for some reason really want to see how the cheesy cap costume looks in the movie, the one before the final one, can't wait!
-
Looking forward to the Captain America thing too, though. Also looking forward to getting drunk.
-
...he wouldn't be in Captain America. Just sayin'.
-
For Cap this weekend... Get better Harry! -EM
-
Evans needs to retire the cold steel.
-
Hope this one's good
-
This movie sounds so frick'n cool. If it deliverer's like it sounds like it can, this will be the new prince of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Can't wait!
-
That little random aside cracked me up. That should be the new Aintitcool meme. Get on that, Talkbackers.
-
Best. Superbowl. Evaaaaar
-
Why wouldn't he be? Even if it turned out to be the largest Turd in the history of Turds, why would he say otherwise...? Directors are businessmen and a good director will never trash his own movie prior to release! I'm looking forward to the trailer and hope it does turn out to be a good movie. However, recent superhero movies have not been great. I point you to Spiderman 3, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Superman etc!
-
I'm impressed.

...a boarded-up storefront on Water St. in Milwaukee that had a bunch of posters for the Menahem Golan/Albert Pyun Captain America movie pasted up on it. I would walk past it every day on my way home from art school. I'd actually thought it had come out and bombed until I got on the internet. I've only ever seen clips from the film playing at bootlegger booths at comic cons. The posters were still up for years and years, becoming more faded and torn. I'm sure there were still scraps on the boards when they finally restored the space.

For wine. For cinema. For sculpture. But mostly for the succulent bounty of a virgin's flower.

"I have a vision-- we'll have Evans put on a faithful version of the Captain America costume and mock it. Because then he can put on MY NEW VERSION of the suit which I've based on the Sex Swing! I'll put Chris Evans into more straps than a police horse! Ooooooo I'm giddy!"

I'm really interested in this Captain America movie; I want that Rocketeer tone; the same kind of fun, adventure and duty that a hero must step up to accomplish.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
I love these longer subject lines!
-
I laugh and laugh.
-
... with your comparison of the perfect Cap being like Gregory Peck's Capt. Keith Mallory from The Guns of Navarone!!! That is definitely the right comparison of characters!!!
-
Harry got so filled up with geek juice that he had to release it all in a post.

Why everybody hatin' on the choppah? Ya'll wrong, jus' wrong.

The real question - is Script Girl excited?

I feel so lost without her guidance.

It's all good. Still, your concern is duly noted.

I have so much going on in my life right now, but I am so unbelievably stoked to see this Captain America trailer. I'm dying to see him throw the shield. I hope he he cartwheels into a crowd of Nazis. I hope we get to see the Red Skull. God, the casting of Hugo Weaving is just sooooo perfect! I don't even know who's playing in the Superbowl. I'm looking forward to seeing Thor too, but it's all about Cap this weekend for me!!! Come on Joe Johnston, come on Chris Evans don't let us down!!!!!!!!!

She's gonna be on Showtime series called House of Lies with Don Cheadle. 411 here: http://tinyurl.com/4ghyr8v

Babies! When I'm done here. Y'all be wearin gold plated capn america diapers.
-
the only thing I'm worried about is I haven't seen any evidence of them acknowledging the Nazi's at all. No swastikas or anything yet. If they ignore Nazi's completely I will be extremely disappointed!
-
yeah, i think she could be great
-
No question about it.
-
And go Cap! I am a little worried about the teaser, but stil excited.

Im rooting for the packers too, and as a Cowboys fan (BRING ON THE HATERS) I fucking hate the Steelers, though really Im just hoping for an awesome game. Anyways since you mentioned Clay Matthews, who is an absolute BEAST on the field, I thought I'd share this anecdote. I went to Clay's cousin's (Kevin Matthews who's a rookie with the Titans, and son of Bruce Matthews; that family is a goddamn franchise) wedding last spring and met the guy. He was nice enough, kinda quiet, blah blah blah. One of my girl friends practically threw herself at him and let her fuck her several times that night without a condom. She told him she was on the pill, a complete lie, in the hopes she would get pregnant and "trap" him but no such luck for her. Of course it was totally morally reprehensible, but I thought it was funny as shit. Anyways just thought Id share that, and I hope Clay rapes Roethlisberger...ya know, give him a taste of his own medicine. GO PACKERS!

Why does Johnston think a more accurate costume would look silly?
by afrayedknot
He directed "The Rocketeer," didn't he?
-
I expect the reboot, starring Justin Bieber as CAPTAIN AMERICA, and Justin Timbalake (as Red Skull.obviously, the parallels to fresh face on pop scene vs. old face in a superficial business is meant to be obvious)..to be released in 2012..no?
-
I'm in the UK, and I'm quietly intrigued at how this'll play out. I acknowledge the inherent jingoism, but there has to be some concessions to inclusivity if it's to sell globally. That's a given, surely? Anyway, on a slight aside, from here on in, do you think Evans will be using the line "I'm gonna put a Cap in yo' ass" for comedic effect in the bedroom? Just a puerile thought...
-
in the form of Clay Matthews.
-
"I re-watched The Rocketeer recently, and I have to say that even 20 years on (and Jesus is that hard to believe), it holds up really well." Unfortunately, Jennifer Connelly's 1991-era tits did not. Damn, but she's a vision in that movie... And The Daltonator made an excellent villain.

I'm on a pretty tough diet right now. I'm having a Skinny Bowl Super Bowl party on Sunday, where it's nothing but diet food. Grilled chicken, celery sticks, etc. Not a chicken wing, pizza, or god damn platter of cheese in site. I actually have lost 20 lbs at this point, after pudging the fuck out the past couple of years. Met a nice girl, settled down, got married recently, and before my skinny ass knew it, I was a FAT ASS. The beer, nachos, and being at the computer devilishly combined with my waning metabolism and formed a 'perfect fat storm' and I have become fat. I had no idea how hard it is to contain your ass crack when your fat. It's terribly difficult. Also, I feel for Elvis now. Anyways, now I have a reason to be excited for the SB. I was just going to sit around, NOT DRINKING, and eating lettuce and carrots like a farm animal, but now I can watch the Captain America trailer hoes! it will be hard to not cheat on the diet, but Harry motivates me. I've recently had some erectile problems (what, you haven't, guy?) brought on by what my doctor calls "being fat and out of shape and blah blah blood pressure blah blah dysfunction" and he said either lose 70 pounds and restore my cardiovascular health; or I was going to have to start pounding cialis™. I suddenly got this image of Fat-Ass Harry, at his computer/lazy boy chair™, going "Yoko Sex time, Yoko sex time" while fishing around like Jabba the hut trying to eat an alien slug and finding some Cialis pills in his desk drawer and going "Jabba boonga Jedi Yoko" and slurping them up whilst using a penis pump. "Dear god..." I said, and begun dieting straight away! ~PBS

I thought that had been settled. Do you really think that? And didn't someone suggest the two were also Dickblood?
-
Golf clap for you! Keep it up!
-
I bet when you're not on the anti-Steeler bandwagon you're a 'not from Dallas,Dallas Cowboys fan.' I can see why people want the Steelers to go down. People resent the best for being the best and want to see them fall. Sorry suckas, the seventh ring is ours! HERE WE GO STEELERS!!
-
You probably have a Vick jersey also
-
Hopefully I won't become a fat blithering idiot, and my dick will return to normal. That's the American Dream.
-
Harry Hyperbole strikes again. Honestly. It's just a movie. I can tell you right now it won't be either of those things. It'll be slightly above-average. Enjoyable and quickly forgettable. Just like the previous three films in the MCU.
-
What, it's been done?
-
true story!
-
to see the new Captain America!
-
okay, okay, I admit to being on the long list of people who bashed this guys name and knew nothing about him when he was cast as Batman in the Justice League movie that died a harsh death...but after seeing the social network, I gotta say that not only is he a good actor and a strong presance, not only would he probably have done justice (no pun intended) to The Batman, but at well over six foot, built like a brick shithouse with a deep commanding voice he ABSOLUTELY should have been Captain America. Now, I personally like Chris Evans a great deal, and I hope he nails the hell out of this, but it will take a lot to convince me Hammer wasn't the right guy
-
That's what i'm most excited about as the Film itself may not live up to my expectations. As for Marvel vs Capcom 3, how could you go wrong? Cap, Dante, Wesker and Taskmaster FTW! My wife and I are rooting for the Steelers to un pack the (fudge) Packers. I'm definately looking forward to big game.
-
They don't need a new poster. Put up this image & a release date, and you've got you're poster right there: http://www.johncassaday.com/shadow.php?id=29
-
It was one of my favorite total Cap appearances. At one point there are fires in Hell's Kitchen with the lights out, and everything is on fire, a wreck. Then you see the outline of Cap holding a hurt girl and yelling. "Medic! We have wounded here." and in the next breath he orders, "Put these fires out. We don't want a gas main going up." And the narraration says, 'A man calls out orders with a voice that could command a god......and does.' The next silouette is Thor holding his hammer up and bringing rain. I get an erection each time I read it.
-
Westie, I always know I am talking to a Daredevil and/or Cap fan I can relate to when I bring up that issue and see their eyes light up. That line about commanding a god...always loved it. It also has my favorite Iron Man image, the one where he is standing in the rain with the drops pelting him and the descripition talking about Daredevil still hearing the sound of the armor powering up. Anybody who hasn't read that issue, it is gold, and the image near the end with Ben Urich's desk...comic panels just don't get better than that...
-
I'm catching up on my Daredevil now (from 2000 on), and I don't remember that one. I'd like to read it!
-
The President of the United States is both a quasi-socialist AND an asshole? Damn!
-
I am looking forward to this movie! It doesn't seem like they are Fantastic Four'ing this one.
-
CAPTAIN AMERICA opens one week after HARRY POTTER, a couple weeks after a TRANSFORMERS movie. CAPTAIN AMERICA will be D.O.A. This summer's SCOTT PILGRIM. Except, SCOTT PILGRIM was supposedly okay-ish. I hope the CAPTAIN AMERICA trailer introduces The Black Eyed Peas halftime extravafukkit. 'Cause that's the part of The Super Bowl I won't be watching. Oh, and Kobes, quit with the half-baked "Choppah is Subtitles_Off" theory. It just isn't true. I can't stand The Choppahs. Can't stand the whole idea of The Choppahs. I don't even care if that puts me in league with you and braindrain.
-
Fuck. It is going to be DOA. God damn it!! Who made that fucking stupid decision.

@WESTIE: “A soldier with a voice that could command a god… … and does.”
by Negative Man
"Suddenly it's raining so hard it hurts. Everybody who can falls silent." HA! Daredevil: Born Again is probably my favorite comic series of all time. The other two best Cap moments in DD:R- Captain America: "He wears the flag." Daredevil: "I hadn't noticed." Narration: It doesn't mean anything to them, thinks the soldier. To them, it's just a piece of cloth. Sometimes I feel so weak. And... General: "...You know the department holds you in the highest regards. We've always valued your commitment-- And your loyalty..." Captain America: (Taking the American flag in the office in hand) "I'm loyal to nothing, General-- Except the dream."
