The X-MEN run into delays!
FATHER GEEK has just this minute received this little tidbit of interesting info about a 30 day delay of X-MEN's release from a most very reliable correspondant on the West Coast... this informant has NEVER been wrong in the past... "so let it be written, so let it be done."
I have it from a reliable source (my better half) who works at 20th
Century Fox, that the studio is pushing back the
release for The X-Men to July 14th.(For Reasons Unexplained) The Department he/she works in (I won't
tell you which one, but you can probably guess with a little thought) received a confidential memo
this a.m.(Tuesday, Dec. 7th, "the Day that Will Live in Infamy") informing them of the change and urging them to adjust their work loads accordingly.
Call me ViveLaFrance!
(July 14th, the new release date, is Bastille
Day/Independence Day in France)

Must Be Pretty Good Since July 14 Is In The Middle Of the Summer
by golgo-14
By the way, is Michael J. Fox gonna die any time soon?
-
Just saw the first few pages of the script while it was being copied (can't tell you how), and the first scene is the concentration camp scene that the spies have reported. Then, it goes into Storm's and Rogue's young lives as their powers manifest. In Rogue's "flashback", she talks about going on a roadtrip with her boyfriend and he calls her "Marie." Fans of the comic have been waiting for YEARS for Rogue's real name & details about her past. Is Singer pulling this one out of his ass, or has Marvel sanctioned this? I wonder...
-
Weepy Weepy! Bah.
-
There's absolutely nothing to worry about, but I'm sure all you idiots are gonna start crying out, "I knew it, I knew it....This movie's gonna suck....First it was the uniforms, now it's this!" Anybody that thinks this movie's gonna suck before even seeing a spec of it, or even a single line of the supposedly "doomed" script are as idiotic as they are ignorant. Everybody's looking to see the comic book LITTERALLY come to life up on that screen next summer, and that makes me laugh at you idiots more than anything. "It'll never be TRUE to the comic book," you're all gonna cry. Have any of you morons ever heard of the word ADAPTATION?! Or even better, filmaker's INTERPRATATION?! I'm the success of this film lies in the hope that, visually, it's NOTHING AT ALL like the comic version. The success of this film, if it is indeed a successs, will lie in the fact that it's the first superhero film (if you will) that's CHARACTER-DRIVEN! And the fact that most of you film-geek clowns can't see that there's no better helmer for the task than Bryan Singer makes me laugh even more. Is the alleged sketchy-script perfect? Probably not. Will the effects be cheesy? Probably some. Is the cast very questionable? Some, but what casts aren't. I think most of you nimrods are just plain anal over YOUR own X-MEN, and would rather fall from a black tower balls first onto giant spikes than see the story and characters portrayed in a way other than what your ignorant brains have been fed. If I have to hear one more time "Oh, what are we gonna do?....Logan doesn't look ANYTHING like Logan"......Some things I just wish all you film-geeks would stop crying about. Whether Bryan Singer's X-MEN is gonna suck or not is one of them....I'm outta breath....I gotta go....Peace out!
-
It is not like they are going to delay this for reasons concerning a better script or anything. I bet it has to do with competing release dates. They're dicks.
-
It doesn't matter to me. Singer should take as long as he needs. This movie needs to good.
-
When you write on this board and call people names it displays a personal lack of tact and unhealthfully enormous ego. Acceptable adaptation is in the eye of the beholder. A giant mutation inducing laser is simply a crappy plot concept.
-
If this fails, we'll only get Michael Bay directed films with a "name" attached, or nothing at all (in that scenario, I prefer the nothing-at-all option). I'm not concerned anyway, it could be a number of things -- the FX shots could take longer than anticipated, for instance. Or an actor's scheduling conflicts. Like others have said, if it's good, I don't care if they push it back.
-
I just realized that I have absolutly no opinion on this one...now if only more people would come to this understanding...
-
I think it would have helped us a little if you mentioned exactly how long it has been delayed...I sure as hell am not going to go look up the origional release date...just my own humble opinion.
-
Isn't anybody the least bit worried about the fact that Singer is in charge of an epic like X-men. Okay so he directed "The usual Suspects". Let me tell you something, that movie, if you just look at it from a directing point of view sucked. It was the script and the seasoned actors that made it work. Some might say he got the great performances out of Spacey and the rest. I say bullshit. It wasn't like that was the only movie where Spacey absolutely blew the audience out of their chairs (think "Seven"). And now after "American Beauty" we all know he is clearly one of the greatest acting talents out there. I'm not even going to mention the debacle that was "Apt Pupil". So now the studio gives him X-men. Wow, I hope he proves me wrong in second guessing him.
-
Okay, maybe you didn't like the shots, but what about the visual style? The lighting and color contrasts were totally interesting! I agree that what I've heard about certain plot-points for the X-Men sets alarms off, but if they get at least the characters right, they've already made it worth my while. A laser that makes humans mutants sounds cheezy, but it's just the type of thing that would occur in a comic book. There could be a way to do it to eliminate the cheez. For instance, if you phrased it as such: "a genetic device to alter human genes, so that humans and mutants will be on equal footing" doesn't sound nearly as bad as "a laser to make humans mutants".
-
Hey, don't knock Apt Pupil. It freaked out my house-mate. Then again, he's from L.A... Lower Alabama, that is. Nevermind.
-
Wow, I thought it was bad to just shoot down other people's ideas, but you're so smart, you can call names and insult people before they've ACTUALLY POSTED ANYTHING!! So you think you know how most of the talkbackers will respond to this news? Wrong. Read the talkbacks up to this point, most have been playing to the tune of "this doesn't matter at all!". A far cry from your prophesy of whiny fanboy misfits. No one expects the comic book to be translated "LITTERRALLY" (as you so eloquently put it), because there's 30 years of X-Men that would be impossible to put into a 2-hour film. I think all the fans of the comic know that there has to be alot of sacrifices. That's why they want a true a representation as possible of the X-Men that can be possible in a two hour span. Does that make them whiny idiots? And by the way, an adaptation is SUPPOSED to be true to the source material! Why? Because an adaptation IS the source material, translated to film! If you're hoping for a movie thats visually nothing like the comic, why the hell even bother making a movie called "X-Men"? The fact that you went on a rant calling everyone a "film-geek clown" BEFORE anyone actually POSTED was a bit premature. By the way, you have one more thing wrong. Fans are NOT looking for "THEIR" version of the X-Men onscreen. They're looking for "THE" X-Men that have been developed for more than 30 year, and you know what? I don't think they're "ignorant" for wanting something like that! Finally, if you don't like what the talkbacks say.....DON'T FUCKING READ THEM!! You're little post isn't going to stop people from posting, sorry to burst your bubble. In fact, I think I'm just gonna bitch a little more from now on, just to piss you off!
-
I think the best thing Singer brings with him to this project is his knack for group interactions (Usual Suspects). Since there really hasn't been a group superhero film before, I can't wait to see what kind of spin he puts on it. As for his visual style...he hasn't really ever done action before, so I'd be interested to see how the scenes come off. All-in-all though, I think that those hoping for a more character-driven film will get it from Singer.
-
I disagree. I think an X-Men style POKEMON game is better. Think about it, you adopt a mutant from the nursery, nurture him, watch him grow, and when he hits his teen years....BUH BAM! You get a random mutant power!! Do battle with your friend's muties and then wait for the inevitable trading card game!!
-
Remember another little movie that was delayed 2 weeks from July 4th weekend and still made $140 million? Does 'True Lies' ring a bell? Plus X-Men has way more kid appeal and the best director yet to tackle a comic book movie. Can anyone think of a better one (and yes I thought of Tim Burton but emotionally riviting Batman ain't). Too bad Terry Gilliam was never able to get The Watchmen off the ground...
-
In the brutal world of AICN Talkbacks, the tendency is always towards the most negative interpretation (i.e. "Oh that's fuckin' brilliant - a mutant laser"). It *does* sound goofy when you imagine them using the concept so bluntly, but what if they were a little more subtle with it, as Dennis suggests? If the couched it all in cool comic-booky pseudo science? Maybe they'll pull it off, maybe they won't, but let's not jump the gun just yet.
-
X-MEN was originally slated for June 30, 2000, which would have had Fox reaping the benefits of a big July 4th opening (without which, a dung heap like WILD WILD WEST would never have topped $100 million.) By moving ahead two weeks, Fox is obviously avoiding competition with either PATRIOT, or THE PERFECT STORM, in favor of a July 14th showdown with ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE. Try as we might, I don't think there's a whole lot to glean from this, except for the fact that the early good word on PATRIOT must have some bit of truth to it, or that R&B is looking more like B&R (letters that should strike fear into fanboys worldwide.) Or it could just be that July 4th was simply too crowded for Fox to risk opening a $100 million film, and, most importantly, a potential franchise. Until they start test screening, the jury's out on this one.

Not exactly, Jobriga.....but close.
And by the way, Niiiice, Just because moviegoers like you pay my salary (somewhat), I can cry and bitch about people cryin' and bitchin' all I want. It's my God-given right! -
They've gotta be running into some major delays if they have to push the date back that far. Not the fact that they're pushing the date back, but that they're giving up that Fourth of July weekend, which can push even a crappy film with crappy trailers and crappy reviews halfway to the $100 million mark. Regardless of the quality of the film, this has gotta hurt its box office gross somewhat, that is, if it opens big and then depreciates rapidly. I know, I know, box office has nothing to do with a film's quality, but this could indirectly affect the possibilities of a sequel.
-
Huh. I thought that "lighting" and "color contrasts" were in the respective domains of the cinematographer and the production designer. Oh well.
-
I'd also like to add that, in THE X-MEN's favor, there's very little competition after July 14th. So far, there's only NAVY DIVER, SPACE COWBOYS and NUTTY PROFESSOR 2; none of which are major events. This does not, however, preclude the possibility of another BLAIR WITCH, or SIXTH SENSE storming the Box Office gates.
-
Well, hello out there!! It certainly seems like you guys have some problems with this production! Im in the U.S. in Dallas, TX. Ill be making some promotional appearances around town, and i would love to answer as much as I could for you..so, if you have any questions, ill be on this site for about 10 minutes..so...shoot!! I promise to keep my visor on!
-
for all of those people who wonder why most guys on here are complete assholes, I've learned that the Internet seems to have an effect on the user to stip away all ego and leave just pure glibbering incoherent id. So basically, just ignore it and realize they're probably rather quiet and meek in real life who wouldn't exactly put up a fight for thier convictions at all. XYU.
-
You're not in this movie, jackass!
-
I understand this is a difficult forum for asking and answering questions, i will be making an appearance at Lone Star Comics in Mesquite TX Dec. 8, at 1:00, and then ill be on radio station 90.1FM KNON from 8p.m. to 10p.m. on Dec. 10. to take calls, I look forward talking to everyone.L
-
Why are you answering questions about a movie you aren't in? hahahahaaha
-
I wonder with this cast if he's able to pull out any type of decent performance. Anyway, they should take as long as they need to shoot and edit this picture. You'd be surprised what a talented editor can do for a film in trouble. And it certainly sounds like it's in trouble.
-
Those were.......interesting. At least now we'd know what wolverine would look like with comic book style hair. After seeing those pictures, all I can say is...Russel Crowe is Logan!!
-
Speaking of sequels, Niiiice.....What are some of your suggestions for the storyboard? Something with Dark Pheonix?....The Hellfire Club?....The Brood? My office would love to hear some.
-
not too sure why rebecca stamos or halle barry are in this movie, but great job with rogue. anna paquin is hot, cool, and a great actress. rogue couldn't be better played.
-
Your office would love to hear some? I like the Dark Phoenix suggestion, since they wouldn't really have to introduce any new characters and they could build off the characters they developed in the first movie. I like the Hellfire Club idea too, because it would bring a more adult kind of tone to the movie.....and also because of the WHITE QUEEN BABY! HECK YEAH! I think audiences have had enough of aliens (The Brood). Personally, I'd like to see something with the Genoshans in it, have a society in where mutants are enslaved "gene"gineered drones. This would be a good extension of all the mutant angst/repression themes that Magneto brings to the first film. Cameron Hodge (is that the right name) would make one heck of a bad-ass villain too! From a pure fanboy geek's point of view (that is, disregarding all laws of physics and reality) I'd like to see the X-tinction Agenda brought to film. Can anyone argue that this wasn't the best X-Crossover ever? I mean, people actually died for REAL (even though those damned new writers had to bring Warlock back). Of course, there'd be way too many characters to introduce, not to mention the fact that all the X-Men from the current film would actually be X-Factor....ah oh well. Your thoughts?
-
No, im not in this X-Men film but there is a sequel being discussed and i wil be playing Gambit...Also ill be in a stage production here in the U.S.next month being produced by Linda Obst, and directed by Nora Ephron. The reason X-Men is being pushed back is due to creative differences between Brian Singer the director and Patrick Stewart who is playing Charles Xavier...and the reason i was pushed from the Wolverine role is that Brian expected more from me than i could professionally give..

by dennis
The Usual Suspects told a story VERY WELL. That's the directors job. Just because he didn't use any innovative camera angles doesn't mean he didn't do a good job directing. I thought he did a fine job. I realize that the cinetog and lighting people do the setup, but the director is responsible for the overall product.
-
I'll leave it up to you kids to worry about it. Not interested in seeing the movie.
-
What do the "creative differences" entail? From what I know, neither Stewart or Singer are X-Men fans.
-
It's gotta have The Sentinels!
-
I don't have any say in the matter (but know people who do). In the first sequel, I would like to see it based entirely around the rise and fall of Dark Pheonix, and some tie-in to Prof. X's relationship to the Shi'ar. This may be too complex to acheive, however, due to the fact that the current script probably has nothing to do, whatsoever, with Famke's character in that respect. If not Dark Pheonix, I'd like to see them (the producers) go The Hellfire Club route. I think anything that has occurred within the X-MEN storylines in the past five years or so (X-Factor, etc.) could hurt the franchise....I just believe the on-going story gets much too complicated. However, I definitely believe that Nightcrawler and Colossus absolutely NEED to be in any sequel. Nightcrawler especially....his character has been calling out to get onto the big-screen for years.
-
They're probably delayed because it's an effects movie, & Singer is new to that.
Or he's busy watching the crappy cartoon show again, getting a totally warped watered down raped perspective on the X-Men. -
Ive spoken to Patrick over the past couple of months and it seems that Brian and him have a conflicting opinion as to Xaviers persona..Brian believes Xavier should be less than psychic, and concentrate instead on his fatherly qualities, and Patrick disagrees so there has been a butting of heads, Patrick got offered a role in Spielbergs Minority Report, which will be a go, so this is strongly affecting the crew and cast as well as the studio's pressure to get it out on the 4th
-
I don't care if it were set back 30 days of 30 years, I'm STILL gonna see this movie!
-
I really don't like the way they decided to use Magneto in this first picture. I don't think the scope is big enough for that character - it's too much like the early run with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which did very little in the way of character development. My personal choice would be to adapt the Chris Claremont run, or stories with the Acolytes and Gamorra and just assume that the audience already knows the characters, and throw them in the thick of it. You can have discussions of origins and whatnot in flashbacks OR IN DIALOGUE. It's not that hard to for Storm to say, "When I was a child in Cairo," blah blah blah. I would also alternate the teams out with each film, but keep the core characters of Cyke, Wolvie and Jean (or any other characters affected by the roster, for example, Rogue and Gambit obviously go together in most fan's minds). The first film should've been Storm, Wolvie, Cyke, Jean, Nightcrawler and Colossus vs Magneto and the humans (Sentinels). The sequel should have the trio plus Rogue, Gambit and Psylocke vs Dark Phoenix and the Hellfire Club. The last film should have Jean and Cyke get married and go away for awhile, Storm as the team leader, Wolvie, Psylocke, Gambit, Rogue and the appearance of Bishop vs Magento and his Acolytes (Fabian) with Colossus helping Magneto like in the comics. Eh, or not.

Well, they're both right. I hope they find middle ground. I can see how Stewart might want to take it as more of a bad@$$ man of action than the guy who just sits at home doting on his children. After all, he was sort of an action hero during his Star Trek tenure. Sir Ian can't have all the fun. What's your relationship to Stewart, by the way?
-
According to the trades, Spielberg hasn't even decided if he's going to make it. Who is this guy, and where is he getting his info? Any answer other than "thin air" would be appreciated.

Can I get an autographed picture?

Patrick Stewart is an old friend of mine from theatre days, teaming up again on the Xmen set was going to be a welcome opportunity as we hadnt worked together since the tempest in 89. And the dynamics between Wolverine and Xavier would have been interesting, however, Brian will not be shadowed, and as it is his project, I was ousted and Jackmon was signed who, i must say is doing well, but it seems that now, the director has broken some toes, and Karma has struck back, but altogether i wish them well, as to the Minority Report, I heard this directly from Patrick believe what you will... and to I Love Fox: if youve got the bottle to call me a jackass prove it down at lone star, pal, youll find my cellophane covered Bruno magli in your erse, you fuckin cunt, ill pop your nutter...Dennis yes i will give you an autographed picture if you will send me a nude, see you at the signing, im promoting a comic that i myself have written and Brian Parsons has animated. Called Wooden Machine Envy about robots who live in oak tree molecules. Thanks, everyone

Originally a release date was set for June 30th and now its July 14th, count them my friend roughly 2 weeks. On Bastille eh, must be the work of the French delaying the film or Y2K, I'm willing to put money on the 1st assumption. Afterall the French were responsible for Godzilla in the 98 movie...

With the advent of the internet and more specifically forums/talkbacks such as this one..it seems everybody fancies themselves either a film critic and/or a "real" filmmaker. Dougray, you're pathetic, why would you (whoever you are) choose to impersonate an actor who has been fired from this project? And Mike D. , are you a P.A. at Fox or a C.E. who has run out of ideas and is worried about their job so you're here to "pilfer" from the geeks so as to save your ass/job? I've been in this business for 12 yrs. and in the Directors Guild for 7 of those yrs.. I've never known an "actor" to speak freely about their opinions without a publicist present. Hmmm, maybe times are changing, Nah, this is Hollywood...oh and by the way, to whomever reads this post, none of you are remotely close as to the reason why it's "supposedly delayed"...
-
So where do I send the nude?
-
Instead of acting like an egomanical prick?
-
Yes indeed, Nightcrawler and Colossus should be in the sequel. They shoulda been around in the first place actually, being core members and all. Dammit. Kitty Pryde too - didn't I read somewhere that she'd be making a cameo in the first movie? Hope that pans out. ****** Story-wise, for a sequel, I'd like to see the Hellfire club too. But I only want to see them if they're incorporated into the Dark Phoenix story (I've always considered them the X-Men's most evil foes for their role in Jean's death). Thing is, the Dark Phoenix saga entails the Shi'ar too, and that's a big ol' can of worms. Almost certainly too much to squeeze it all into one movie. Instead, how about using the original Claremont/Cockrum storyline that introduced the Shi'ar and the Starjammers? Been a long time since I've read it, but it had that Mkrann crystal thingee and Lilandra in a struggle to regain the throne. Can't recall if it was a very good story or not - might need to be adapted liberally - but it did introduce the X-Men to BIG COSMIC ADVENTURES. Now, the sequel (should there even be one) might still be too early for space adventures, but they *should* establish the Shi'ar well before bringing them into the Phoenix saga. And they *must* be in the Phoenix saga. The X-Men's last stand, defending Jean's life against the Royal Guard, is too great a moment to lose. ****** The scene I'd love to see, from an FX point-of-view: Dark Phoenix knocking out that Shi'ar battlecruiser on one of her rampages! Yeah, even over her destroying a whole planet, that's the scene I'm looking forward to. One person taking out the equivalent of the Enterprise or a Star Destroyer...could be mind-blowingly cool.
-
Mike D, I guess we agree that Dark Phoenix or Hellfire would make a great sequel. Seems like you guys prefer the writing from the mid to late 80's as opposed to the Jim Lee/Claremont creative team of the 90's, which I must say I prefer simply because that's what originally got me into comics (funny how no one mentions the crap they've been putting out the last several years). Actually, check out the story from X-Men (not uncanny) #1-3. If they don't kill of Magneto in the first movie, this might be a nice follow-up...A radical group of upstarts causing destruction in Genosha, then slowly bring Magneto back into the scene...but if there's gonna be a sequel, I personally prefer they bring in another villain. I personally would NOT like to see Apocalypse for reasons I can give later if needed. Cormorant, I love the Starjammers/Imperial Guard aspect of the X-Men, but I feel it would be introducing way too much stuff into the movie franchise for a sequel. The X-Men need to be established more in their surrounding areas, and the relationship they have with society should be developed in the sequel, too...I'd rather they introduce more X-Men, than completely new superheroes like the Starjammers. Maybe throw in a Forge/Storm soap-opera type romance. I wonder what people would say to Schwarzeneggar as Colossus (you knew it'd come up eventually, seeing as how he's big and is russian, giving him an accent). Shadowcat...another good call from the 80's, Cormorant. From the 90's, I guess no one wants to see Jubilee, even though she does develop Wolverine's character. Gambit would be cool. But what about the other "originals" that have yet to be in the movie? Like Iceman? Someone said the effects would be too much, but keep in mind he can use his powers without completely "icing up"...they can save that for some big battle sequence or something...
-
Well Dennis or Stephanie or whatever your name is, how would you like me to enlighten you? By the way my "ego" is in check, I just take offense to people who impersonate others. How would you feel, let's say, if you were an established actor or whatever in this industry and I came up to you one day and said " hey man, what's your problem, why are you slamming me on the internet"? when you knew full well that you weren't but rather it was your "impersonator".
It's not a terribly good feeling, I've had associates/friends almost lose jobs because of this scenario. As well, I take offense to being referred to, as a "prick", I'm a "film geek" and proud of it, I love everything film. I've paid my dues in this business and I'm not going to take crap from you or anybody else...so a we say when we are forced into turnaround, "Ce'st la vie"...
P.S. if you would like to have an honest and civil chat, then I'm all ears. I'm not anybody important, I've just been around the block a few times in this "biz". -
Why throw my name out? That was a low blow. You're certainly not using YOUR real name. Hey, I'm a film geek too -- what's your point? Your attitude sucks, man. All I wanted was for you to defend the position you took in your previous post, but you didn't even do that! If you don't want to take crap off people, maybe you should stop giving it.
-
Just answer what you meant by the following: "Nah, this is Hollywood...oh and by the way, to whomever reads this post, none of you are remotely close as to the reason why it's "supposedly delayed"..." Well, WHAT IS IT THEN? That's all I wanted to know. You seemed to have the answer, so I'd like to hear it. Please?
-
Other than having cool powers, what is the character about? He served a purpose in the early days, but he's been replaced with more modern versions of the "group teenager" in the form of Shadowcat, then Rogue, then Jubilee. Bobby never had much going for him, except maybe his flirtation with Emma Frost.
-
The trailer won't be out Dec. 17th after all, Fox announced today and Cinescape confirmed. Basically, this film's only been in production for about three months so the FX work that has been done probably won't be complete enough to impress fanboys. (And not due to Stewart, whose character is not in the film enough to cause such a delay -- although I'm not denying there could be tension as Singer's got a rep as a real screamer.) Thus, Fox wants to avoid what they called a "marketing misfire" by putting out a trailer w/special FX that are less than what they will be in the final version. I can wait for the trailer but will someone please leak some stills onto the Net already?! BTW, Mike D could be Michael DeLuca at New Line who is a huge comic book fan when he isn't being a film honcho. And that AIN'T Dougray online because one of my pals from film school is on the MI2 shoot and they are back Down Under ... still shooting.
-
I always perceived Rogue as more in her early twenties than a rebellious teenager type...and yeah, Bobby was the young one in the early days, but he has grown up a bit, I think his character would be more mature than Rogue's character in this movie. Iceman's always been the practical joker, yet kind of loser type of guy, and the X-Men cast doesn't currently include someone like that....besides, a character doesn't always need to add something to merit him become part of the ensemble, he can bring out characteristics in others. What about Angel, the rich boy who loses everything he loves, and eventually even his original body? Now that's a character you could work with...(i'd still think iceman would just look cool on screen)

by dennis
He's in and out of the team too much to be considered a main player, in my opinion. Though, as I kid, I remember one of the most heartwrenching moments for me during the X-Men was Angel losing his wings.

My concern is how they're going to fit each character and their past into one film. They probably shouldn't try. Though I like aspects of the other characters, and Storm was my favorite as a kid, Wolverine is by far the most interesting of the X-Men. I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff (if this is successful) of Wolverine's days in Madripoor. On the hokey side, I really would like to see an adaptation of Captain America's The Bloodstone Hunt as a tv miniseries. It was like Captain American meets Indiana Jones. I loved it!
-
First off, I as well do not wish to engage in a battle of words on the internet, it's fruitless. Second, X-Men went to camera on Sept./27th in Toronto and were supposed to wrap on Feb./9th but that date has been pushed to April sometime. Whitey is quite correct with the fact Bryan Singer is a "screamer" (some teamster is going to clock him someday) ...now let's disect this; (1) The Usual Suspects (brilliant) was an $8mil. picture (2) Apt Pupil (garbage) was aprox. $11mil. (3)The X-men is coming close to $100mil. ... now 2nd Unit on the The X-men is bigger then any main unit Bryan has ever worked with...(overwhelming) he has over a 100 day shooting schedule to contend with and I don't even remember how many standing sets. To put put it bluntly, he's in over his head...but the saving grace is, I've heard the dailies look great, that's what counts in this business. 'nuff said...

They probably won't try to include the character's personal histories in the film. Right now, I don't think they'r necessary. The way I see it, the central conflicts as presented by Wolverine as a new addition to the team as well as the contrasting ideals represented by Magneto should provide plenty of characterisation (one character I really don't want to learn the past of his Wolverine...his is supposed to be sketchy and mysterious). For example, Cyclops' reaction to Wolverine as a wild card will reveal plenty of his character as a leader, without the need of delving into their pasts.

Did I get enough i's in there? Y'know, if they could focus the narrative around Wolvie/Logan searching for his one "happy thought," I think we'd be talking about a box office bonanza not seen since HOOK (oops, Sony's still getting tersely worded letters from collection agencies on that one.) I dunno..... as far as film goes, the less backstory, the better. Blockbusters are all about forward motion, and Singer would do well to not bog down in character development.
-
But you're absolutely right about the less backstory, the better. That's why I beleive most of the characterization will come from the charater's reaction to plot events. However, as far as forward motion goes (which I agree is necessary if you're talking action blockbusters), let's consider Singer's past films: Usual Suspects was medium-paced plotwise, in Apt Pupil, nothing actually ever happened, it was pure character, which is what I think Singer's all about. "Character-driven" would definitely make an interesting X-Men movie, but most action summer hits are more action, plot, and less character. I'm not saying X-Men needs to be an action film, but that is what first comes to mind...

Not only is Jubilee NOT WHITE (she's chinese), she's also NOT APPEARING IN THIS FILM. So yeah, Anna Paquin is playing Rogue. Since you provided no basis for your beleif that this is "f*cked up", I can only assume that you mean she's too young for the part. I agree, Rogue should be in her early to mid twenties. But then again, Cyclops should be in his late twenties to early thirties, and he's being played by, what a 26 year old (anyone else think he looks much too young for Famke Jannsen)? My guess is they're catering more towards the lucrative teenage market by having them be younger. But you could also say that this is the beginning of the X-Men, and at the beginning, the X-Men were all in their late teens/early twenties....but then they grew up before Wolverine came along...and then....ah, forget it.
-
There is an 'X-Men' game that isn't a 'Street Fighter' rip-off. It's for the PC, and it's called 'X-Men: The Ravages of Apocalypse.' If you've always wanted to play 'Quake' as Wolverine, this is the game for you...

Historically, studios repeat the fatal blunder in preparing the flagship film designed to sail their anticipated franchise into boxoffice nirvana -- that is, they think too much about the franchise and not enough about the film. How the hell can you design a "franchise" until you've crafted an excellent film -- a sequel worthy (rarest of all mainstream film breeds) project -- to begin with? And right on the heels of "franchise-think" as a franchise spoiler is the fear that comes along with hanging one's ass (and job) out on a $100 mil. pic. Such fear leads to the wasteland of "suits" between development and production that end up sticking any number of grubby fingers into the pot, so that what begins as a solid project ends up an overblown collage of every staid fomula Syd Field and Linda Seger ever thought to commit to print, with a handful of Joseph Campbell exhumed out of context for good measure. The odds are very much against justice being done those beloved muties of yours, so be afraid, X-fans... be very afraid.

I have witnessed first hand several days on the set of the XMEN, and I know for a fact Bryan Singer is a level headed, generous individual. He often spends lunch with the extras, making them feel as important as the big named stars. He lets PAs and extras into the video village while cameras roll, and even lets them listen to the sound on headphones. He always makes sure people are enjoying themselves, and if he screams, it's for a reason. Like when a suit from Fox shows up and threatens to shut them down due to script revisions. What director has not yelled at someone who isn't doing their job right? What leader has not raised their voices at a crew? Do you have any proof that Bryan Singer is a 'screamer'? Or is this just another streak of envy in you fanboys that you aren't talented enough to be in Mr. Singer's spot? And I hope the so-called 'seasoned' people on this site aren't using this forum to live out their fantasy and knock other hard working individuals in Hollywood. Because, as you know, that would be pathetic.

as i remember it, buying the comic at 7-11, when rogue first showed up at the mansion, seeking help with powers that to this day she seems to have gained no control over, she was a skinny, little, id say 18 or 19 year old "skeeter" of a girl. She certainly wasnt the 6 1/2 foot amazon with gigantic bazooms from hell that i saw in the jim lee era. She had been around, in the spider woman story where she stole Ms Marvel's power.. No one in the x men trusted her, except professor x.. of course that led into the aborted wedding of Wolvie and Mariko, and the whole silver samurai thing....but i digress.... HOW DOES A WOMAN WHO CANT BE TOUCHED, AND IS INVULNERABLE GET FAKE BOOBIES

She was a late bloomer, ok?

Exsqueeze me, but wasn't Titanic originally supposed to be a summer film, but was then delayed until the Holiday season? And didn't the film go on to be a top grosser? So what is this load of Klingon Targh crap that the movie is going to be worse than if it was released on time? The assumption that delay = suckiness is total horse puckey!! I'm glad the studio is being flexible with this. If delaying it could make it better than let it be delayed until 2001 for all I care. Now Patrick Stewart can work for a studio who is more willing to do what's necessary to make a great film unlike Paramount's handling of the other film franchise he's involved with.

NOBODY!

I suppose the perfect release date for X-Men would be the tenth of December, 2000. That way the teaser posters would all be printed with: X-X-MM. Get it? Ten, ten, 2000? Purty clever, huh?
-
I'm not in the least bit surprised they're pushing back the realease date. I think it's insanse for them to release the film next year at all. Once they're done shooting they'll only have a six or seven month window to complete all the post production! That's insanity for a special effects intensive production like the X-Men. True, T-2 was done in six months, but a) that was James Cameron, who ran the special effects dept. at Roger Corman's co. and knows how to get things done fast and b) was a more experienced director than Singer at the time. I think the quality of the production and the effects work is bound to suffer which, even if the script and direction is good, could seriously hurt a film of this type. All I can say to Singer is good luck.
-
She could pull it off, even though she is young. I've seen one pic of her and she is..umm...
pretty well developed for her age.
Now dont start calling me a pedophile, this is just an honest
observation.
And i do agree with the post about this being a franchise. I bet they will be coming out with action figures out the wazoo and other paraphanelia with this movie. McFarlane toys could take this and make a mint. -
True, but once again Toy Story II occured over a major national holiday, which provided some of the fuel in its rocket to the top of the box office. Look at the ticket depreciations for the second week. Almost all the top films fell around 50%. Even more evidence that a holiday release for X-Men would have been beneficial. And its the case that X-Men is passing up on a holiday, where its pretty much given that ANY film will make loads of money, no matter how crappy (The Lost World opening over Memorial Weekend, anyone? Remember how fast that depreciated after opening weekend). I agree that they should spend time on making a better product, as I'd gladly wait, but they are sacrificing at least $50 million in grosses in the process.
-
Would someone get a picture of ANY of the characters, PLEASE???
-
That being said, I have no problem with people flaming or challenging any of the opinions I put forth in my posts (as I've said, I love a good debate!) as long as it doesn't get personal, so I look forward to answering any future challenges you may have for me. seeya

The greatest trick Singer ever pulled, was making everyone belie
by da bond
Yeah, so like, I think I kindda can guess how X-men is gonna end, ye know, with Singer directin' 'n' all.
So like, at the very last scene, cyclops takes his mask off, we discover he is actually magneto, then he puts a Malb. light in his mouth, and lights it up with a GOLDEN lighter while holding a golden watch on his left hand. -
Hehe...This Dougray guy cracks me up...so does the guy he was fighting with...Mr Scott, if this is THE actual Dougray Scott, which I doubt, do to the fact that you traded your dignity, and posterior in front of more than a dozen cinema fans to call someone a for-letter c-word...I'd like to know exactly what was said as to you assuming the role of Remy LeBeau, AKA Gambit. Seems to me, in the Hollywood industry as of present times, releasing a bit of info such as this, especially about such a heated production, would beget your chances of having anything to do with this production - period. I do commend you for your knowledge of Mr Scott, however, although knowing THAT much about him is kinda...creepy.
