The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day sounds like a lot of supernatural baloney to me.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Today we jump back a little bit to 1934’s The Black Cat starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. I recently covered this film in my Halloween run of A Movie A Day and was quite impressed by it, mainly because Bela Lugosi got to kind of play the hero.
I say “kind of” because even though Lugosi helps out our hapless (and a bit annoying) young American leads, he’s still a creep. A creep for all the right reasons, mind you, but a creep nonetheless. It’s a great little Poeian thriller, with Lugosi and Karloff in quite an epic battle of wits.
If you know and love Tim Burton’s Ed Wood like I do, you’ll know these two didn’t always get along famously, but in today’s pic they seem to be having a fine moment of civility; Bela with his cigar and Boris with his proper English tea. Click to make the pic bigger!

Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic will hear the lamentations of your women!

From what I understand, any bad blood between them was 100% manufactured for comedic effect in the film. They had a good deal of respect for one another. At the time of 'Ed Wood's' release, I seem to remember Lugosi's kid(s?) being upset over this aspect of the characterization (also because of the extreme profanity -- even at his lowest, apparently, Lugosi was always a gentleman).

Love your BTSPOTD posts, they make my day. But 'Time Burton's Ed Wood'?
-
and see them driven before you!

Crrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...is an awesome flick. Probably my favorite of the Universal Classic Horror cycle. It's like watching a Karloff-Lugosi thriller shot on a Ken Adams-James Bond set. Much art deco coolness.
-
Ed Wood is the only true good Burton flick
-
bastard! I came to post that same quote but I'll finish it for you. Karloff does not deserve to smell my shit!
-
...really who cares. I love these pics because in many cases they are rare and show another side of many who are long gone. Anything made after 1990, well, there are tons of pics available. Shoot, grab a dvd and watch the making of features. I mean, most of the pics available for the Matrix would probably consist of someone standing in front of a green screen. The rare pics on this site are interesting because in most of these cases, there are no behind the scenes features on them. I loved the footage on the making of Abott and Costello meet Frankenstein, but for the most part, there isn't a lot of footage available on the making of long ago classics.

Supernatural, perhaps. Baloney, perhaps not. Everytime I hear it, I think of the Monkees uber-bizarro 1968 movie, Head. "Song was pretty white." - Frank Zappa
-
I entreat you. Never never posr a BTSPoD of the Matrix. I want that guy's head to explode.

...Keanu surrounded by a hundred cameras to get the bullet time effect.

Hey Quint, good thing you didn't call this one "obscure" or you'd have those pompous, pretentious asses all over you again for not "discovering" this film until your Halloween run. Fuck them! They do not deserve to smell your shit!! Black Cat was a rightous little movie too. Thanks for posting.
-
Karloff: Wouldn't you like a cup? Lugosi: I never drink...tea.
-
Apparently there were some gruesome scenes at the end that were too graphic for universal. Love the women floating in glass though. Cut or not, this is a great movie!
-
Tomorrow's picture.

I think Lugosi had just flicked his cigar in Karloff's tea cup.

Hence the smile.

Yeah, yeah. Blah blah blah.
-
Quint maybe You shouldn't believe all the crap you see in movies. Despite what they do in Ed Wood that is a fictional movie. Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff were actually good friends and Lugosi was never to be heard uttering obscenities.
-
This is a fantastic picture from one of my all-time favorite movies. The Black Cat is freakin' awesome!!!
-
Yeah, nobody drives cars fast in the rest of the country when they have a Pontiac 455 under the hood and are 18 or 19 years old right? Pathetic ass.
-
You called me "maxipad" instead of "maxjohnson!!" What incredible wit you have sir! Tell me, did you think of that yourself or did you and a team of writers work on that all day? I'm guessing the second option because there is no way that one person could come up with such profundity all on their own!

Also works for Star Wars prequels

Typical Yankee asshole. How do you like that sort of generalization? I don't really think everyone in the north is an ass though. Just you.
-
baloney, perhaps not. Based on the headline I was expecting a shot from The Monkees movie Head. Oh well, now I know where that line was quoted from. Nice picture anyway.
-
Now gimme a pic of Lee and Cushing.
-
Who knows, we might be giving Quint ideas.
-
Who read the headline and immediately thought of the Monkees. What a prophetic movie! "Somebody comes up and giggles at you, that's a violation of your civil rights." Best summarization of political correctness I've ever heard.
-
"So am I. What can I tell you?" -Davy Jones.
-
...baloney, perhaps not.

Man, that dude fucking ruled. Still remember that fuckstick Cobain being on the cover of Rolling Stone and Zappa only getting a name and dates at the top of the cover. About a five page obit inside. Then Cobain gets the cover AGAIN when he offs himself. Ah, there is no justice.

Who cares if "Ed Wood" isn't a fucking documentary...
by WriteForTheEdit
...it's Tim Burton's best film, no question, hands down, end of discussion. Period. (Great BTS pic!)
