Writer-producer Aaron Sorkin (“A Few Good Men,” “The American President,” “Sports Night,” “The West Wing,” “Studio 60,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “The Social Network”) tells the BBC that he’s now working with HBO on his proposed series set backstage at a cable news show very much like the just-cancelled MSNBC hour “Countdown With Keith Olbermann.”
Olbermann, who also inspired one of the characters on Sorkin’s “Sports Night,” left “Countdown” for good on Friday and may now contribute rants for Sorkin’s new show, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Sorkin reportedly hung out behind the scenes at both “Countdown” and “Hardball With Chris Matthews” to research the HBO project
Sorkin’s post-“Social” plans also include writing and directing “The Politician,” based on the book by former John Edwards aide Andrew Young about the former presidential candidate's strange life. Sorkin also worked on the upcoming Brad Pitt movie “Moneyball.”
