The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is the motherf***in’ shore patrol, mother***er!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Hal Ashby has been woefully underrepresented in this column. Today’s pic doesn’t feature Mr. Ashby, but it definitely for his movie.
Some might be taken a little by surprise here as this isn’t a behind the scenes picture from the filming of THE LAST DETAIL, but rather the publicity tour for it. I’m pretty familiar with this type of set up, minus the film cameras… how awesome would that be these days? I need to talk to Harry about setting up some money for 16mm equipment and development for a totally inconvenient and expensive way to record interviews.
If I’m not mistaken, this looks like the publicity blitz at Cannes. No matter where it is, I love that Jack Nicholson is wearing his Navy hat from the flick.
Hope you enjoy! Click the pic to make it bigger… and if you haven’t seen The Last Detail, fix that ASAP. You’ll mourn that we lost Randy Quaid to the crazies.

Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic doesn’t feature a cowboy. It features a stuntman.

Young Jack was the coolest.
-
did anyone else watch that doc about Jeff Bridges on PBS? Those behind the scenes pictures he takes are infuckingcredible.
-
I remember seeing a clip from this movie on an Academy Awards telecast, when I was very young, and nearly every word of dialog was bleeped out...
-
great fucking film
-
...not a fucking "navy hat". There are no hats in the military, they're called covers. Civilians...
-
"The Fall"?
-
Check out Bridges' website. There's a lot of his pics from diferent movies. Amazing.

Love this movie. Everything about it feels 100% real, like it's a documentary. And despite having this huge cloud over their heads for the whole film, they have an awesome time. Love the way it ends too... they just deliver Meadows and then they're off, bitching and moaning once again... "I hate this motherfuckin' chickenshit detail!" Except there's ONE scene that's always been odd and seems like Ashby's loose filmmaking style caught up with him in the editing room and that's in that weird series of dissolves during the train scene where Mulehall and Buddusky are discussing what to do with Meadows and Mulehall is telling Buddusky they're just gonna do their job.

This is obviously before he was too rich and powerful to stop giving them. I remember the last month that Tom Snyder was on the air, he made an on air empassioned plea for Jack to come on and do an interview - no doing. Carson, Walters, King, Rose, Frost - none of them have had Jack. The ONLY interview I've EVER seen with him was in a Batman special and he talked about playing the Joker, because he loves the character so much. He will do text/magazine interviews, but not on air - believes they give away too much of who he is (like we don't already know?!)

Any covering for your head is a "hat." Such an item worn by someone in the Navy would, therefore, be a "Navy hat." I don't see how anyone could get offended or upset by such a term!

Just took this one in the other day. So great, Ashby is one of the best. He's right up there with Altman in my book. BEST ONE YET, QUINT!! Lets see some Harold and Maude or Being There picks?!

At ease soldier. Some of us civilians know it's called a cover. I was at a bar recently and just got the feeling that the guy next to me was in the military, so I asked him if he was. He replied "No, I'm a civilian." I knew then that he was because no one not in the military would respond like that. I get asked a lot at work if I was in the military because I always say "zero" instead of "o" when relaying a series of numbers or say "S as in sierra" or "F as in foxtrot" instead of "S as in Sam" or "F as in Frank." I guess all that comes from my time working at a small airport.

Ugh... yeah, that behind-the-scenes pic of the new Spider-man suit does suck.
by Chewtoy
Stripes down the legs... silver booties (hopefully those aren't meant to be in the shot, but you'd think they'd paint them red so they were less noticeable just in case if they really aren't supposed to be silver). I hope the red eyes are just from a reflection or some other production reason. But still... that lack of belt and the lines of it make the suit so much more girly.

Great film, with some of the best dialogue, well, ever. I say this was Robert Towne's best script, not Chinatown. The profane, bitter understatement of the ending...just perfect.
-
In the Army we referred to it as headgear. Regardless, who gives a shit what it's "supposed" to be called? Last time I checked, Quint writes a column for AICN not the Navy Times.
-
its a bold change from the norm but is recognizable as Spidey. I especially like the thin framed actor route theyve taken which is sure to enrage meatheads who can only relate to musclebound heros. Wait till you see some actual finished film of it in action and properly lit before you dismiss it outright.
-
Only women (or Borat) wear clothing that goes from their crotch to their shoulders in an uninterrupted line. Giving Spidey a blue suit with a red line painted down his front neck to crotch just makes him look effeminate. Putting stripes on his ass in a garter belt line doesn't much help.

Just a little good-natured inter-service rivalry :)

for when he runs to his fallen friend in the oil field the same as the sound of the trash compactor in Star Wars?
-
I mean, everyone knows Shipwreck from the G.I. Joe cartoon is based on Jack in this movie, right?

One of the greatest lines from this flick. I love it to pieces.

That was kinda helpful, you know?
