Exclusive: X-MEN: FIRST CLASS teaser poster! Plus Harry's a mutant other than the Blob?
Hey folks, Harry here... yesterday I discovered I was a mutant. My doctors came in and told me that apparently, I'm some sort of medical miracle, that according to my MRI - I should've been a full paraplegic beginning 8 years ago. But - I was still able to walk on my feet with crutches as little as 5 days ago. They also discovered that my brain, which they were monitoring throughout the surgery and other tests I've gone through, that apparently I'm using 20% - 30% of my brain. Apparently somehow this allowed me to continue to move and walk, despite the fact that my Spine was terribly damaged. I'm also apparently healing and reacting faster than should be happening from the surgery. So yeah, I'm being studied.
I got moved to REHAB today - and have been meeting with my rehab team of nurses today and what an awesome group of people, when... BRYAN SINGER called and we discussed my new found mutant-ness - and said apparently I have a power that was beyond even Professor Xavier. I then sent the mental suggestion that he give me the new advanced poster of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS! (actually that's why he was calling in the first place.)
Bryan is quite enthused about the film thus far, but frankly wanted to talk more about my back and his back injuries and John Ottman's too. I also found out my same surgeon is who gave KERRY CONRAN the ability to walk, two years before SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW! Damn... Seems like a lot of spinals out there.
My god, my nurse was just in here - their cel phone goes off... it's Bernard Herrmann's TWISTED NERVE theme - aka Daryl Hannah's Nurse theme from KILL BILL.
Sorry. That was too funny not to mention.
Bryan is getting ready to begin shooting his next film shortly, we're working on getting all the cool details on that...
Meanwhile, here's the poster. Like all the X-MEN films it evokes that steel-y look. Bryan tells me that he's seen a mock up for the trailer, but they've still got a ton of visual effects shots left to slug into the thing. So, till then, here ya go...

Harry, when will you post pics of Peter Sarsgaard as Gallagher?
by the_choppah
Talkbackers demand it.
-
How long will you be in rehab? Have they slated you any time in swimming pool to regain muscle control? Really glad you're doing better. Now back to January Jones. That still was incredible.

-
CRUSH ALL OPPOSITION HARRY! RAWR!
-
Dodgy official photo release not withstanding, the LA Times photos look great. Kirbyesque.
This is a decent enough teaser, and after Kick-Ass I have 100% faith in Vaughn. -
NICE.
Not get that healing factor to work, Harry! -
Poster looks good too.
-
Definitely not as "throwback-y" As I believed or rather, led myself to believe. When we first saw on set leaked pics of Xavier in London(was it London?) I kept thinking of somekind of "raw" cerebro that looks like a garage /kit-bash / steampunk early version of Cerebro. Something dangerous.
I figured that was the route they were going.Suits and street clothes ,(like Wolverine Origins)But now with the uniforms IDK anymore.. Combined with this overly photoshopped art and the overly photoshopped cast pic....
Just 'feels' like they only know how to make this kind of movie one way -
Fucking hope so.
-
Wasn't that an animation years ago? It should be.
-
Unknown... Tomorrow is the evaluation. Today they did a full test of my nervous system, where I had total sensation - the left leg has been numb and uncooperative for years. I have a very long process ahead of me, but happy estimates have me back home in 7-10 days, but personally I think it'll be a bit longer than that. But after that, I am told I will be an out patient for 4-6 months, where I do 2-3 hours a day of rehab. This is just very cool.
-
Great to hear you're on the mend.
-
That means all the AICN trolls are Mutie haters and you can expect a visit by Sentinels
congrats on the good news. -

Geez Harry, now all you need to do is leave the hospital in the Pussy Wagon.
by kamaji
I'm still approaching this film on tip-toe. After being burned by X3 and Origins:Wolverine, my love of the X-Men on film stopped back on X2...now THAT was a wild ride. Loved Magneto's escape, and rather enjoyed Anna Paquin who they just seemed to kick to the curb in X3.
-
bland poster, bland movie, fuck fox
-
We actually use about 30- 35% of our brain. That 10% number is a myth. They not only disproved that 10% thing on Mythbusters they proved we use about 35% of our brain. Plus MIT did a study that proved the same.
-
Uhh... you think Kerry Conran wants his personal details out there like that?

"still got a ton of visual effects shots left to slug into the thing"
by fridge
So, they still have a ton of FX work left JUST on the trailer? The movie comes out in like four months. I knew FOX was rushing this shit, but I can only imagine the CGI in this is going to suck big blue Beast balls.
-
I guess they didn't have any other fonts to use on their big metallic doors in the 60s
-
The solid, single picture of that metallic looking X is the best looking promotional shot they've shown so far for this movie. Everything else looks weak. http://kungfutreachery.blogspot.com is the best btw lol.
-
This film will be released in less than six months and they don't even have the effects in the (teaser?) trailer done yet?? Yeah, sounds like what Ratner did to the last X-men movie. And Wolverine's claws in that bathroom scene from Origins. They should just chalk this film up as loss for income tax purposes lol. http://kungfutreachery.blogspot.com = awesome
-
right?
That 10% thing is pop culture bullshit. -
Oh and Harry, glad to hear you're progressing, big guy.
-
Only two ways i believe will help. Physical rehab or a stem cell injection.
-
Glad that you're healing is progressing well. Your doctor fed you a line of bull about the amount of your brain that you are using. That "people only use 10% of their brain" business is a bunch of nonsense. It sounded good, though. :0)
-
What mrd said.
-
That you are pulling through. And I am holding a quick judgment on this project until i do see more finished product, but this single "X" still has some original life to it. I can see a more appropriate modern take on a mythical world, whereas when the future has the NEED to adapt to a quicker form of life, ieMutants, the demand for an answer hits the highest of priorities. Thusly, a justified comic book movie that keeps a mythos alive in the comics and beyond.
Cheers! -
And Singer sure looks like a nice guy.

"I should've been a full paraplegic beginning 8 years ago"
by scratchmonkey
Harry, you're not a mutant. You just have a metabolism that's so slow it's going to take a decade for the messages of full body paralysis to pass between your limbs and brain.
-

kick ass.... and I always thought the other 90% of the brain was for mind control
by kidtroubadour
oh wait, I still keep coming back to AICN day after day, year after year.
Keep plugging, ginger boy. -
the first two were good movies but as we all know, the Rat and the studio dicklicks disrespected the subject matter and the movie going public enough to drop a turd in our drinks for the 3rd movie.
On another note I was gravely injured about 30 years ago and went through a similar amount of rehab. The thing you should look forward to is going a little bit farther each day than you did the day before. It will be painful and difficult and suck quite a bit, but the progress will really be a kick, especially with history to give you perspective.
There is also the whole blessing/curse angle to this particular story. Without the back issues would you have started AICN to begin with? Would you have thrown yourself into Geek cultrure and inside activities to the same degree if you were able to run around and get in the kind of trouble you probably would have had you been completely healthy? Here's to seeing what kind of trouble you can get yourself into when you can really put your back into it.
Also the humping. -
I fucking love AICN! Sure some sites churn out news a bit quicker, but their talkbacks and talkbackers suck.
Good to hear you're doing well Harry and that X movie sure is looking good to me. -

I mean, they are tryng to compensate for X3 and Origins with Vaughn and Aranofsky. I say this is a good start.

...as the "humans use only 10% of their brain" theory is 19th century hogwash (and grossly misinterpreted). If you are, in fact, using 20-30% of your brain, you're most likely mildly retarded.

by jimbojones123
What the heck is this? Seriously. They have NOTHING right???? Beast wasn't blue for a LONG time.

He's a mutant, too, and he's what medical professionals refer to as mentally retarded.
-
Any chance of you making it to Park City this year, Harry?
-
....he said no no no
-
To choose what socks to wear, the rest I squander.

Unfortunately, it is the part of his brain that controls the action of shovelling food into his grease-stained pie-hole.

How does ANY comic fan feel ok with any of these films??
by the green gargantua
They ruined the Phoenix!!! They made Wolverine a tall sexy hunk!!! They put everyone in black leather!!! Not one sentinal!!! Rogue has no awesome stolen Ms Marvel power!! Ice Man never turns to ice!!!
I really think some of you would just love anything that has an "X" stuck in front of it, it is SHAMEFUL.
You too Harry, I mean c'mon!! Holy fucking shit... How many times did you imagine that burning bird of cosmic psychic energy with a super hot redhead floating inside, her eyes rolled back in her pretty head???? All that stuff is so totally DOABLE if a film maker grows a pair of balls. When I was in high school, you wanna know who I dreamed of seeing play the roll of WOLVERINE??? DAVID PATRICK KELLY, and you know I am fucking right. I just seriously believe that this whole thing should have been rebooted. While we are stuck with what we have I am keeping my fingers crossed that Darren Aronofsky's The Wolverine will do justice to anything I have read in the panels of these funny books.
REBOOT REBOOT REBOOT. -
I glad you're doing well and it's awesome the turn that your life has taken! I'm excited for you, Harry!
-
The fact that Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, one of the first X-Men is not in this movie in any meaningful manner, automatically makes this a fail for me.
Marvel is essence pandered to the popular opinion that Wolverine is cool (he is....) and fucked over Cyclops in order to apease the masses.
I was watching a few minutes of Wolverine and the X-men cartoon and it was really shown in the first episode, where Xavier communicates to the X-Men from the future to tell Cyclops that he needs to stand down and let Wolverine lead the X-Men......
Fuck off....
I am at least glad that Ol' Slim has a leadership role in the comics....... Still -
This shit aint the X-Men
-
XXX Parody of this movie will be better.....
-
I guess he's the only one.
FUCK FOX! -
I love to hear your spinal stories, Harry! Keep on improving, bro!
-
Glad to hear you are doing better Harry...just please when you get out of the Hospital get yourself into shape! Once you start losing weight and exercising you'll be hooked and you're gonna be shocked at how great you feel! Keep fighting buddy!
-
Judging from the photos I've seen...they were probably most intrigued by the fact that your heart has not exploded yet, too. I wouldn't consider it a point of pride, though.
-
I could make that on Microsoft Word, I hate hate hate movie poster previews like that..
They never get any audience excited as the nerds that will be there day one knew about the film existing the day the first press release was made..
Waste of time but will give me a big X to look at in the lobby.. and like the one in Last Crusade I can see this one disappearing just as quick as it's there! -

And continued speedy recovery to you, HK!
-
...because only ten percent of your brain is neurons, and the rest of basically the glue that holds it all together. Which means, essentially, that ten percent is all that can ever be used. But, aside from that, tests have also shown that most people use their brains only a fraction of their potential, and putting that on average at ten percent is not an unreasonable estimate. But that could mean that most people are actually using only one percent of their brain, which sounds even worse...
-
it's a very persistent myth, but completely made-up. the 10% thing appeals to people because we like to think there might be this vast, untapped potential in our brains, that super geniuses have found a way to access. simply not true. in fact, we use different parts of our brains for different things all the time, and the "percentage" varies wildly depending on what we're doing. and ironically, the people that seem to have photographic memories, or superhuman powers of calculation, often have DAMAGE to parts of their brains.
just be happy you have a brain. they evolved piecemeal, and compared to how they could work, they are super inefficient (this is why computer can calculate math a lot faster than the average doofus, or even the average mathematician), but they get you to work on time. well, usually.
Harry, I'm sorry for all the painful shit you've gone through in the past couple weeks, but I'm so happy for you that they've discovered something at the root of so many of your problems for so many years. I'm really hoping you're on the road to real recovery, and to a life that you never thought you could have. if you don't get video of you dancing, I swear to god, I will burn Utica to the ground.
hell, I'm a videographer. fly me to Austin and I'll film it for you in full HD! -
I caught Twisted Nerve at a QT Fest back in the day. Great movie that needs a proper modern release. I mean; I think we're beyond sensitivity over the use of the word mongoloid.
That creepy whistle been my text ringtone ever since. -
Harry is Mojo.
-
We use different parts of our brains to perform different tasks. Over the course of an average day, the majority of our brain is firing at one point or another -- just not all at once.
-
..... Marvel do not own the movie rights to X-Men, Fox do (for now at least) and it is not Marvel who write these films, or hire directors etc. Only for Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Incredible Hulk and The Avengers.
-
They really went out on a limb with this teaser poster! It's an X. Again.
-

he has been focusing on staying alive...much more imporant.
Harry I don't agree with your tastes sometimes (Godzilla and AOTC spring to mind), but you seem like a good geeky dude so best of luck with the recovery. -
Everything has been on RedUser for a month or so.
Yes it will be shot on RED Epic in 3D (i.e the same as The Hobbit)
The Epic camera will be the death knell for film cameras unfortunately -
I'm assuming since American health care is so poor that you went to Canada or the UK right?

Your nurse didn't have an eyepatch anywhere did she? ;). That was funny.

Many fans of X-men still crave the ultimate vision on the big screen.
The first one was pretty solid at the time, but upon repeat viewings it's pretty tame. The biggest plus the film has is the integrity that everyone gives to their performances, especially with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen...but also in Anna Paquin, Famke Janssen and Hugh. It was done w/ respect.
X2 was near perfect. That opening scene with Nightcrawler is still epic and among my favourite in this history of superheroes on screen. Add a brief yet memorable Wolverine assault on the military dudes in the X-mansion and that sweet teaser ending...it was gold.
Obviously X3 gets the abuse...but I still contend it was a natural conclusion to the story that began in part one, contained more mutant action than the other movies combined, and once again significantly showcased Wolverine, although maybe to it's fault. While maybe a missed opportunity to dig into the "Dark Phoenix" saga, I still liked Famke's dark persona and her powers were given the justified amount of respect, making her more powerful than any other mutant.
X-men Orgins: Wolverine wasn't bad...but it wasn't great either. The nuggets of goodness were too few, and left me with the same feeling as X3. It was only a snack and ultimately made me hungry for more.
With Vaughn and now Aronofsky tackling the next Wolverine chapter...I definitely feel they're on the right track.
Nothing against the huge Avengers plans, or the calibre of talent they've assembled for those projects...but just like the comic books, X-men is the world I truly love and appreciate for being different. The comics were different than the rest, and so should the movies.
If Singer has some beautiful and twisted ideas that involve this retro cast somehow being a part of a current X-men story, because time travel has always been a major element to that universe, maybe I'm dreaming but that would be legendary.
I haven't read anything about that, but that's my wish for what this 60s X-men movie ultimately means to the franchise. Why else do it? Sure, treat it as a stand alone to save face if it fails and to avoid high expectations...but there's no reason why Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy can't stand side by side in X-men 4, with two Prof. X's battling Mr. Sinister or some other threat from the "uncanny" universe of the X-men! -
Why does fast track these X-men movies does Rothman really think People Dont Give a fuck. I wish they would take there time why the hell did Vaugh agree this time. Maybe Vaugh is a X-men fan and was tired of seeing them get anally raped.
-
There is no facepalm ..
Thank you badmrwonka for saving what little faith I have left in the intelligence of talkbackers
To clarify : YOU use 100% of your brain.
To everyone else : Get the drill, and point out to me which part of the brain you can afford to lose and still function. Id be happy to demonstrate -
If your body "healed and reacted faster" than normal, im sure you wouldn't be in a fucking terribly overweight even after the results of lapband surgery because your body would be metabolising that shit out of your system faster than you could shovel it into your mouth...
...Id be checking that doctors credentials if i were you - Including the credentials of those who apparently DIDN'T DISCOVER THIS 8 years ago if that is indeed when it was supposed to happen... -
Jan 22, 2011 5:49:00 PM CST
Will the film explain how the students only age 10 years in 30+ years?
by kevred
Because if this is set in the 60s, and Magneto & Prof. X become McKellen & Stewart, then the 20-something kids in this film have some slow aging going on.
I know this film wasn't just an excuse to make a teen version of the team to please the Twilight crowd, right? -
You should ask Singer if you can have a cameo in X-Men First Class as mutant with healing powers
-
Harry, first I want to wish you a continued speedy recovery and I'm happy to hear about the recent discovery of your X-gene.
This aside, I'm still not sure what to make of X-Men: First Class. Despite having a hot property, FOX seems to be out to make utter and complete crap. The look of this film isn't bad, but as with the last Wolverine film, it may suffer from mutant overload. My one remaining hope is that Matt Vaughn chooses to stay with the Xavier/Magneto relationship at the very least in the first act. Other than that I got nothing. -
... and all you're doing is running AICN? Don't you have Cancer to cure or a TARDIS to fly around time and space?
-
next time someone speak to Singer remember to ask him what is going on with the BSG movie.
oh and what the hell happened with the Superman Returns sequel....why exactly did it fall apart? was there a script...a story even? what happened?
will there at least he a comic book version of the sequel to wrap loose ends up (like they did a prequel series for SR)
Singer needs to clear this shit up! -
...is mainly the fact that they're movies.
As long as the inevitable movie influence (Spidey Back in Black for example) is not an out an out rehashing to fit in with the films image then why should it affect us in any way?
Viewed as themselves, outwith the comics and just as movies in their own right I'm rarely disappointed (not NEVER but rarely!). You also have to be pragmatic: if you're making a movie for comic fans you've got a small audience and businesses like movie studios don't like that and that fact is going to mean some hard decisions in the way your heroes are portrayed on celluloid. I don't mind - more money = more sequels + more comic based IPs getting greenlit. All is well in spite of the minor compromises that need to be made.
On a side note - does anyone know if Vaughan / Jonathon Ross' wife are moving on to Kick Ass 2 next? -
kick ass was awesome
-
That's awesome, Harry! Good luck on your progress!
