by AmazinSpidey82

First of all, who the fuck is the guy with the red face?? And why is Beast blue? I could've sworn originally he looked like a human until his genetic mutation fully kicked in?? The chick in the middle of the 2nd pic and January Jones (total porn star name lol) can both get it loooong and stiff lol. I'll even wear that dorky yellow jumpsuit they all have on hahaha. Oh and uhhh...these mutants look pretty old for a 60's period tale...should we assume by the time x-men occurs most of them are dead or haven't aged besides Magneto and Xavier?? This smells like a flop but I'll wait to see some actual footage before sending 20th Century Fox any hate mail. Oh yeah, peep my blog @ thanks!!

To beat a dead horse with psychic powers. I try not to be overly skeptical or negative, but I think they've gone the wrong direction with X-Men. Two great movies, one good one (I know I'm in the minority, but I just didn't hate X3. I thought it was entertaining) and a complete misstep on the first "origins" movie despite the best efforts on everybody's part. If you wanted to move forwards, should have gone with an X4 with somebody like Singer at the helm again (Ratner is a fine journeymn director, but no master) There was more than enough fodder at the end of the third one to continue the series in an interesting way. Now, we're just...well...beating a dead horse.

  • this feels/looks like it could be decent. First off, it's the original 1960's x-men (time period/look)-which is very cool. Second it's Matthew Vaughn, and he's a good director. And well, let's wait till we see a trailer..and then we can opinionate on it.

  • Jan. 19, 2011, 7:51 p.m. CST

    Really just feels wrong

    by Drath

Why are they not cleaning up the shitstorm mistake that was X3 by bringing back all the characters prematurely killed off? If they intend to reboot, why waste our time with this? McAvoy does NOT convince me that he'll turn into Patrick Stewart ever, let alone in the five years that this must be set before the first movie in order for Havok to be that old. Oh who cares, this series was brilliant for X2 and then got tarnished forever. Best thing I can say for this is the absence of Wolverine.

    by HyphenatedWords

...when a reboot uses features that were created specifically for its predecessor and not in the source material? Gives me the creeps. It was one of the aspects of Superman Returns that crawled under my skin. The opening credits fooled me with nostalgia, then the rest of the movie was a pale letdown that constantly reminded us of the better version. Fail.

The case in point here is: Is this all they can do with Mystique? Why go with the weird scaly face and odd, plastered red hair? Instead of creating the character full-cloth, we're getting a Rebecca Romijn version knockoff. Mystique in the comic was bold, in control, a leader. I'd love to see her sometime. Beast looks like a Kelsey Grammer knockoff.

Other than those two, I do like what I see.

There a full-on talkbalk response from me, just minutes after I decried talkbakers in another port. Heh. It's not just cricy. It's hypocrisy. :P

    by catlettuce4

I'd love to see X-Men handled really well for a change. I've always thought maybe Cameron could have done it right, but that isn't going to happen. The saddest part is that this film is their chance to do it right and fix any mistakes that were made, but it looks like they're probably not going to do that. Always difficult to tell from pictures alone, but there's something not right about this. No Scott or Jean by the way? That seems so wrong.

    Vaughn Is Right

    by Barron34

X-Men IS potentially a bigger property than those other characters he mentioned, but X-Men will not realize that potential by deviating from the canon of the comics like this film obviously does. ****They have gone to the trouble of re-booting the franchise, and they waste the opportunity to use the classic original X-Men line-up as a starting point.***** Instead, they create weird characters whole cloth, completely screw up the time line of other characters , and exclude other key characters (Cyclops, Jean Grey, the original Angel, Ice Man, the original, non-furry Beast). This movie is a mess from the perspective of fans of the comic books (I grew up on the Claremont/John Byrne run, and read back issues of the older, "classic" X-Men). *****Setting the story in the 60s is an interesting idea, but wastes the chance to start the re-boot with the Classic X-Men line-up, leaving open later possibilities for the more diverse X-Men team of later years.*****I am not interested in seeing this movie, and I dread the waste of Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club, who are great villains that were integral to the Phoenix Saga. There is no coherent reason to place the Hellfire Club in the sixties, in my opinion.******This franchise crashed with X-Men 3, with the perfunctory and poorly handled truncatiuon of the Phoenix Saga. Now that they are re-booting, they have a chance to start from zero, but instead are choosing a bastardized, non-canonical approach which doesn't seem to respect the source material of the comics. Seems like a real waste of potential.******

    by matchesmalone2380

Sounds more like a movie studio going against competition than fact. If Marvel had done this movie in house instead of Fox: That quoute never would have been said, more character could have been involved and the photo would have looked a lot better. An Xavier vs. Magneto movie I could see, but the characters are a poor match. I thought Havok was Cyclops younger brother? Why use the crappy Morrison era "Angel"? And It looks like Mystique is in her teens (granted she's a shape shifter)! I'll wait till netflix for this one!

I'm quite certain that the first class consisted of Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Beast, and Angel. Give me that movie, and I'm there opening day. As it looks now, there is a better chance of me being struck by lightning while turning in my winning powerball ticket than there is of me seeing this in theaters. Although, if the demon that Ratner sold his soul to to get in the movie business is listening, I will gladly see this in the theater if I win the lottery between now and then. without the lightning part. -your humble servant.

The best we could have hoped for was X4 actually

    by DirtyDingusMegee

Since they semi-rebooted anyway, heres my two cents. If Fox was wasn't going to through out the whole batch, the best they could have done was to create a climactic ending to it all. X-men 4 had the potential to retcon all of the bullshit of X-men 3. It could have started with Logan as the last X-man (since it was his series of movies to begin with) in the future where not only have all of the humans died, but the mutants are being hunted by the Sentinels (Terminator style). That would allow for Cable, Bishop, Apocalypse and all that other cooky time-travel stuff. Lets face it, a balls-out dark, violent X-men apocalypse movie would be a damn sight better than a soft reboot with shitty characters and bad ideas. But this is all wishful thinking to a time now dead and buried. The fun of the X-men movies is done. Stand a fork in em'. It was always about the cash anyways, but at least we got X2 (which had flaws in its own right but was still the best X-men movie we got). Maybe some day a studio will finance a real X-men movie. Until then I'll keep dreaming.

Quit Bitching About "Deviating from the Comics"

    by djr

If you want to read a comic book, read a fucking comic book and boycott the movie, and shake your puffy fists at your basement ceiling in anger. I'm a huge X-Men fan, and I don't need to see the same six or seven characters over and over and over. "Singer ruined the X-Men by deviating from the comics!" Wah Wah Wah! Shake your fists, little weenies. I NEVER want to see Stan Lee's banal dialogue or Ditko's primitive, lantern-jawed cartoons in a modern movie - have you read that shit lately? Does not age well. It's the crude foundation upon which something far more sophisticated was eventually built. This isn't a reboot; it's a prequel set in another "movie" universe. Deal with it or go away. This isn't your favorite issue panel-for-panel on screen; it's a movie based on 40 years of stories and dozens of characters. Deal with it or go away. That being said, these images don't fill me with excitement.

when Did Moira become poster worthy

I thought she was nothing more then a talented Dr. and the Financeer. The age i have isues with but I love that bringing the looks of comic without those non-imaginative black leather outfits.

Very atmospheric and comic-like. Vaughn is a gifted director. I hope he can do his thing despite the tight schedule.

You are a douche, sir. You've been pimpin' that shitty site for days now, all the while acting like it was someone else's blog. "Anyone seen this guys blog? Guy is a fuckin' GENIUS" etc. Well know we all know you are just a self publicising dick of the worst kind. So to re-iterate - DOUCHE! As for the X-Men...I'll reserve judgement 'til I at least see a trailer...

    by AmazinSpidey82

I hate to tell you this, but I never pretended my blog belonged to someone else. I just cleverly marketed it, perhaps I can get a job working for 20th Century Fox and help them market this film to the world since the only person waiting for Fandango to release a ticket would Lameeee. Sincerely, "A Fuckin' Genius" P.S. This movie will mostly suck. You maaaad huh?

Smart director, interesting cast + strange 60s setup

    by smudgewhat

Now = enough odd variables to tweak my interest. I like the new pics. Looks period, quasi-mod, sexy. No expectations = intrigued.

  • But it still might suck thanks to Singer, Rothman, FOX etc.

from what i remember isn't he or wasn't he?, Scott Summers aka Cyclops ' younger brother? How does that translate into a film set in the 60's.....does Cable aka Cyc and Jean Greys son come back from the future and get some crazy time travelling story arc, just thinking out loud, but seriously? WTF? p.s. i'm kinda actually stoked for this mind you not really knowing some of the characters in this one...theres a pink dude he he

Of all the franchise that are being rebooted, X-Men needs it the most, so naturally it's the one they leave alone *facepalm* This is such a fucking missed opportunity it's almost criminal. X-Men. 1960s. Marvel Girl, Beast, Cyclops, Ice-Man and Angel. You'd have EVERYONE creaming their pants over that.

I'm still up for it. But a terrible official photo!

    by pw

Who the hell at fox made that? Don't Singer or Vaughn have any say? Because I'll bet you money neither of them said ok to that thing! Give me the pose photos and I'll knock you up one a million times better in half an hour ...and I'm shit at photoshop. I'm shocked. But here's my theory - That was just some bullshit pic knocking around the office that someone leaked. Fox responded by releasing a better rez version instead of putting out a new one. I don't think they wanted to release anything yet apart from the poster Singer gave Harry. I've no problem with the suits, actors or look of the movie. Just this picture. Unbelievable.

Marvel WANTS the new X-Men and Spider-Man movies to flop badly

    by BrashHulk

If Sony and Fox finally relinquish rights to Spider-Man and X-Men, respectively, then Marvel can take them back and start making their own versions of the movies. Not that Marvel's versions would be perfect, but they'd probably be much more respectful of canon, at least. The roster of Xavier's team and Magneto's Brotherhood that FOX chose for "X-Men: First Class" is a very sad, unfunny joke. As much as I like some of the actors in the film, I'm hoping it bombs like Hiroshima so FOX drops the X-Men license like a hot potato. The same goes for Fantastic Four, which FOX treated even worse than X-Men. Sony's first two Spider-Man movies were pretty good, actually... and then the third one was just a piece of trash. And even though the franchise is maimed right now, if this reboot makes a big splash (which I suspect it will), expect Sony to ramp the Spider-Man franchise back up to full speed faster than you can say "Rocket Racer."

    by Phategod100

Marvel can't integrate anything if they dont have the movie rights

    by Phategod100

Unfortunately without buying them back as long as Fox gets a X-men related movie in production every 5 years they keep the rights.

    I almost made it

    by HongKongCavalier

I was SO successful at ignoring this movie that it's not until NOW that I find out that they gave Angel a sex change. and ... and ... that's all I can stands; I can't stands no more! Stop jocking Singer! His versions of X-Men weren't exactly all that great. The bar had been crapfests like Reb Brown's "Captain America" ... so anything would've been a step up. Don't believe me? Go re-watch "Superman Returns" ... I dare ya. After Nolan's Batman, Singer will now have to face a direct comparison. FYI, for those asking "whozzat??" in the pictures: Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havoc), Zoe Kravitz (Angel), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Xavier)

isn't this set in the 60s?

    by houbou

Somehow, the costumes.. the fabrics.. too modern.. January's character, showing is showing more skin than a 60's version would. Well, I don't complain, but if they are trying to do the 60's version, they should really be more realistic.. They should have hired the BBC crew for realism in creating past times environment..

Dig the director, the 60's setting...however

    by MRJONZ72

As many have said if it does take place in the other 4 movies universes its not making quite sense to me. Also wished they had just rebooted and given us the original 5. I guess well never get a Cyclops that doesnt get the short end of the stick or a a cool (no pun intended Bobby Drake). Was alwasy to Dawson Creekish for me in the other movies. I did dig Kelsey Grammer as Beast..and I cant really say much about he didnt really have a whole lot to do in the 3rd movie.

  • Please, what are we selling here? They're doing enough damage re-writing the Spider-Man movies (even though they aren't even ten years old yet), why can't they just re-write this so the first class is the real First Class? I want Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Actually, I just want them to stop making X-Men movies until we can come to a better agreement as to what direction to take. It's condescending to say that "X-Men is a bigger brand name" because it suggests that ever fan of the book will accept any piece of crap that make and through at us. The Film AND Comic world deserve better than this. Oh, and Magneto looks about as threatening as a sock-puppet that's missing an eye and was in fact made out of a brown paper bag that a homeless man used as a urinal.

The Blue Fur Beast was created because Hank McCoy discovered what he thought was the mutagen that could mutants out of humans while working for the Brand Corporation. The effects were reversible if an antidote was given to him within a few hours. He used it on himself to see what would happen if the mutigen was used on a mutant, which created the blue fur beast. Unfortunately he got caught up with fighting some bad guys and didn't get back in time to use the antidote, which forced him to stay as the beast permanently. But yes, I agree Hank McCoy should not be blue, at least not a first.
