...It's just that, even so, I can't summon up much enthusiasm for this. I don't really care for prequels, I'd rather see a story advanced then dig deeper into the past. Additionally, this collection of characters is too random for me to get interested. I'd have much preferred that they had started over and given us characters I want to see, like Scott and Jean, with the possibility of things progressing from there.

If there is one way in which comic book films have matured its that we've finally realized that superheroes should be wearing super hero costumes unapologetically. The story in this film is going to be a terrible hodgepodge of random characters and cheap fan bating. Meaning tehre will be a scertain segment of hte population who loves it for exactly all the reasons its terrible, kinda like X3.

I know we all have a certain affinity because we were young and theys tarted this comic film onslaught but they are seriously lacking as X-Men films. They are full of dodgy characterization (yes INCLUDING Jackman's uneven Wolverine), terribly hokey plots, some truly bland action directing from Singer, and barely there world building. Plus they just didn't FEEL like the X-Men. They should absolutely reboot the franchise.

I agree with you. While the first holds a certain affinity in my heart for the realized characters on film, I agree with you on all points. X2 was structurally better and faster--although the lack of blood in the Wolvie/ Deathstrike fight was disappointing. And yeah, Jackman-- while great in the role, was miscast from the get go. But not as much as Marsden, poor guy. I would have jackman as Cyclops and somebody else as Wolvie, and Marsden as--umm- Rex from "Sex Drive" doing a cameo.

Jackman is just naturally too heroic and nice. It just reads in his entire persona. He doesn't have the grit for Wolverine. On the other hand he is a very good actor, his performance in The FOuntain is still, for my money, one of the most underrated of the last decade. He's a dramatic actor in an action star's body. Which is exactly what Cyclops needs. That sense of carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders mixed with courage and empathy. I think Jackman could have pulled that off brilliantly.

Where are their masks? January Jones is hot but was miscast as Emma Frost (Alice Eve was smart to ask out of this crapfest of a movie). There is so much wrong with this movie that hopefully this is the nail in the coffin for these Marvel franchises controlled by FOX.

The retro-ness of the costumes is cool and setting in the 60s is cool. A prequel to the existing X-franchise, however, is far from cool. An X-Men film set in the 60s with Angel, Ice-Man, Marvel Girl, Cyclops etc would have most comic fans creaming themselves.

There will be essentially no team dynamic unless they completely disregard any actual established characterization. Let me guess, Havok is a cocksure hothead? Not really following this movie in detail, so when I first saw the pic I assumed Fassbender was Xavier and McAvoy was Magneto. Fassbender is too angular and lead for Magneto, McAvoy too doughy-faced for X. They should've been swapped.

I usually reserve judgement quite nicely, but this... It's crap. I can tell just based on this picture that it's going to be entirely wrong. Wrong characters, wrong story, wrong mood. Thanks, but no. I didn't care for any X-men movies previously anyway, so I suppose I'm predisposed to not caring. The films drained the life out of all the characters except Wolverine, and this one won't even have that much going for it.

They can mess with continuity all they want with their insect-wing Angel and Havok and all that, but why have Hank already in blue Beast mode? He doesn't turn into that until long after he leaves the X-Men the first time. Kinda messes with the character's journey, I think.

I'll be the first to say that I'm a big fan of the first two and even can occasionally enjoy bits of the third (as long as I don't watch it within two or three months of the first two. Some fun, mindless action bits in it). But this...someone up there nailed it. This assembly of characters is just so fucking RANDOM. Really, fucking Angel Salvador? YOUNG Beast? The thing about more obscure characters is that for the most part they only work in relation with more popular ones. If they had Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Angel then it would be okay to add in Havoc and MAYBE Angel Salvador and give them decent story. But if they're trying to start up a new franchise, using obscure characters is the worst decision they could make. In order for people to be attracted to this they're going to need at least one or two already familiar leads. Again, the only reason I'm remotely interested in this is for Michael Fassbender, who I have no doubt will be fantastic as Magneto. MacAvoy is actually pretty good casting as well but Fassbender is spot on.

There's a very small list of heros who can translate their, spandex type costumes. Spider-Man, Superman and that's about it (Kick Ass excepted. They look stupid and take you too far out of "reality". They look like cheap, failed Star Trek TV show costumes. That said I'm not judging the quality of a movie on some dodgy low res pic, especially an unoficial one. The story, acting and direction will be key BUT the costumes WILL be a negative. Singer ealised that and gave the X-Men much better "uniforms" for live action. "what would you prefer, Yellow Spandex?" NO

Seriously, Michael Fassbinder is an absolutely incredible actor and I'm looking forward to see what he does with his role but other then that I have zero interest in this film. I didn't like Kick-Ass at all. I thought the comic was so much better. The entire comic had a, " this is cool because it's a comic book," type vibe but translated into a film it lost a lot and just became a seriously unfunny, stupid, average action romp with a pretend visual style like most Hollywood movies. The X-Men movies no matter how tolerable they might be, though X2 is definitely a cool movie and the series best, are average action movies. This will suck.

All Fox has said is that it's an "unauthorized image". Probably means someone jumped the gun. The official picture will probably be high res version of this pic with slightly better photoshopping.

...though not in the film industry, just fyi. I can totally see this image being just a proof of concept of an intermittent stage of an overall design or photoshop process. I agree with most those and say that this image (as it is) is very bland, but I don't think we are seeing a final product here. I remain unconvinced in X-Men First Class, but until I see an actual "approved" promo image, I will remain interested, at least.

He would've done great in the role. A class clown who has the potential of an omega level mute yet he is pretty lackluster at this stage of his life. They could've had prof x and cyclops recruiting him, and then the three would recruit more and so on and so on. At least Kevin Bacon is in this.

I guess it was supposed to be a back door pilot or something. Anyway, if this pic is genuine, it kinda gives off that vibe. As in you want it to be coo' but you have a feeling it'll be a letdown. Hopefully I'm wrong, but XFC is not looking too good in my eyes except for Kevin Bacon, and maybe January Jones, who admittedly looks good for the role but I haven't seen Mad Men or anything with her so I can't really say.

I don't know about her talent, so hopefully she got in this fliq with her skills and not her oldman's legacy. She had a lamea$$ anchor tattoo I saw on some kids of rock special or some crap. There are times when it's coo' to see an actor's tattoo in a fliq (when Heath Ledger has no make-up and impersonating a cop, you can see his on his left wrist when there's a close-up on him aiming/shooting towards the stage in The Dark Knight) but if I see that weak anchor I'm gonna go film kick-ass 2:Meadowe beats vaughn's ass in Manhattan Beach: the documentary.

that character was so poorly taken care of in the movie universe. In the first films it was the damn Wolverine show. Here was a chance to get the real Cyclops character treated right and with respect with this film but instead for some reason fox wants to keep continuity with everything x-filmed. ARGH!! and you know a few years from now they're just going to reboot it all from the ground up, modern day, of course because this one already did the 60's thing and wasted that potential. Look, I like Vaughn, he has made some fantastic films and I don't doubt there will be some great action in First Class. However, my hopes are not high because of the characters being used, I just don't really give a crap about most of those in that awful picture up there. P.S And WHY is Beast hairy and blue in that picture?? I hope it is a fake. I hope.

If they wanted to keep continuity with the previous films and lower the budget. Azazel, Angel Salvadore, Emma Frost and Havoc are all superfluous to this origin movie! This will leave too many film-goersscratching heads, too many sad fanboys arguing about continuity and too many overly colourful costumed comics films than the public needs to see in one year. Fail!

Especially over the last 10 years, Emma Frost has been a MAJOR X-Man character. And she's actually pretty cool and not just hot. Beast is in it. I hate that they make Mistique ugly. Come on! We'll see. It might be a great movie. It just won't be the movie that most people want. I just don't get Fox. They should have just started all over if they were going back to the beginning and done it the right way. That would have gotten people in the seats. If this isn't amazing, it could kill the franchise for the next 7 years. I too wish they had just gone with the original X-Men of Beast, Angel, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Iceman. But this is what we have.
