Cool News
And Here's A Somewhat Official Picture Of Chris Evans As Captain America!
Beaks here...
As cool as that picture of Andrew Garfield in his Spider-Man costume is (with artificial web-shooters!), I'm a little more excited about this scanned-from-Entertainment-Weekly photo of Chris Evans as Captain America for three reasons: 1) CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER comes out this year (July 22nd, 2011), 2) this is the first big-screen attempt at one of the last remaining A-list Marvel characters, and 3) I truly believe Joe Johnston and company knocked it out of the park when they cast Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Oh, and I've also heard that Marvel is very happy with the film.
So here's Evans as Cap (I'm sure a high-res pic will be posted soon)!

Willing to give this one a chance.

Final costume for the era isn't bad, wonder if he will get an updated look via Tony Stark and SHIELD when they thaw him out for the official Avengers assembly.

Wow, the fact they are not showing the head makes me think that there are major changes, perhaps huge white eyes!!!

looks pretty good for a paratrooper but I just cant see him sitting down and playing cards in it(like the real steve rogers does)...double edged sword I suppose.

Captain America - Hundreds of hours of concept design...
by Doctor_Strangepork
Those armored guys behind him...about 90 minutes.
-
Will be there opening day!
-
But way better than Spidey. I'll deal.
-
About as good as I could have hoped for. Glad they painted in the wings
-
and having just reread the ultimates last night that outfit is note perfect. The set design also lends itself totally to authenticity for the age....Go Cap! (PS: Nice stitching too)
-
hahahahahahahahahahaha I agree. Why are they not nazi's?
-
I come on here every day to find news on on the Cap. I'm happy now. Don't know about Spiderman though, it sucks when you start to see a Spiderman younger than yourself.
-
Now let see you complain.
-
...in making me mildly interested in seeing this movie. As for that costume? I'd buy that for a dollar.
-
His passion shows.
-
so many better contenders they could have picked.
-
Precisely how Henry Miller described an erection.
-
that looks fucking dumb.
-
Joe, you don't fuck this one up, and we be cool again, feel me, dawg?
-
God bless America.
-
I cannot for the life of me understand how grown up people can get excited over something like this. Please tell me you're all under twenty, else this is just... sad. I haven't seen a more retarded, childish looking outfit since the last shitty superhero movie rolled into cinemas.
-
Should stroke the fans
-
Like I'm the only girl in the world Like I'm the only one that you'll ever love Like I'm the only one who knows your heart Only girl in the world... Like I'm the only one that's in command Cuz I'm the only one who understands how to make you feel like a man, yeah
-
A boner, if you will.

He spearheaded the attack, thrusting through the enemy, throbbing with glory.
-
Love the duct tape. The armor's on the inside.
-
and all the characters and the stories, it's so hard to get behind these comic book movies because the costumes that look so cool in the comic book just look impaired in real life. They just don't translate no matter how hard the costume design team tries. It's not their fault, it's the fault of the medium they're copying, it wasn't meant to be filmed. I mean, I go see the movies and for the most part enjoy them, like spiderman and batman and Xmen, but always in the back of my mind, a voice is telling them that actually it all looks silly. Even Nolan couldn't keep Batman from looking a little goofy. Iron Man was the best of the bunch because the costume was an iron suit, so that worked. I'll probably go see this 'cause Chris Evan is hot and maybe they'll give us fangirls a scene without his shirt on.
-
Cap is well-cupped. It's the first thing the Nazis always aimed at. Gotta protect the boys.

I'm hoping it looks better on film.

I'd buy it if a Russian artist designed the suit in the movie...

but then that wouldn't make sense.

Looks pretty lame to me. As with THOR which to have throne room scenes reminiscent of Masters of the Universe, I have a healthy dose of skepticism. Both look like shit.
-
when the blockbusters had working class action heroes in them, not all these "tortured" fags running around in their underwear or gay bondage clothes in garish colors. for a society that's as homophobic as the american one they sure dig their camp.
-
looks as 'practical' as a real super hero could look. if they update him in avengers that'll be fun too.
-
with that shit covering his ears?
-

wow. they did it. they made the costume work in a live action film.
by antonphd
i could buy a dork like peter parker making a flamboyant spider man costume. the hulk is the hulk. and iron man is body armor made by a trust fund dork, so, yeah, i buy that he looks the way he looks. but i had no idea how they could make captain america's costume work in a live action film. especially when most of the film takes place during WW2. but they did it. i buy this costume. you can see the logic of how it was designed for the time just looking at it. well done
-
I think I found my new screenname
-
proves that us nerds are not all about rage. Lots of positive comments in here, and I'll add my approval as well. Evans looks badass. See, execs, if you do things RIGHT we'll eat it up. Kinda kills your "nerds will never be happy so we'll just do whatever the fuck we want" theory, doesn't it? =)
-
It's more realistic, I guess, but I wonder how that will play out in fight scenes.
-
Cap's backing dancers.
-
I mean, if I were a bad guy, I'd be shooting at the only guy wearing blue.
-
Like the uniform they would show off at a Military trade show with the actual field version being camo patterned. So They managed to pull off what was really an impossible concept to sell in real life. Nice job

"First big-screen attempt..." What about the 1990 movie?!
by Royston Lodge
The 1990 Captain America movie wasn't "made-for-tv" or "straight-to-video". Sheesh! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America_(1990_film)
-
but - from a visual standpoint at least - I think they got Captain America right.
-
I was thinking clumsily_cut-out_helmet_holes_for_ears, but I thought that was awkward. We all know The Choppah is coming back as chris_evans_engorged_manhood.
-
For the win, baby. For the win.
-
I'm sick of seeing pictures of capt in full outfit scanned from some t.v. guide publication; with that said, I'm going to withhold judgment until I see it in action. Given the era and stylistic choice, judging the outfit on screenshot alone is pointless
-
1st I like the suit for the golden age suit. I am very interested to see the suit he will wear in the Avengers though. That is the one we will eventually see more of when you count the Avengers, and any Cap sequels. In regards to Evans I REALLY did not like that casting decision. The most defining quality of Cap is his nobility and I have never seen that in Evans. However he looks decent for the part and I give Marvel the benefit of the doubt on this. I think they have earned it based on the strength of their casting decisions so far, (Although I still wonder if the Skaarsgard kid would have made a better Thor), and will wait to decide if he is good in it or not. Also I honestly can not think of one actor who I think would make a perfect Captain America.
-
agreed, I could have seen Jeremy Renner as Cap and Evans as Hawkeye.
-
Capitan America is the Human Torch too??? Zero desire to see this. Fuck everything
-
I know it's a just a fuzzy pic, but the suit looks not great. I will withhold final judgment until said movie comes out. That is all.
-
that thinks Captain America has always been a lame character? A shield? Really?
-
Jan. 13, 2011, 4:33 p.m. CST
Cool outfit, but I just cannot imagine Evans as a not cocky character.
by AshMcQ
And I am not talking about his penis.
-
...that suit is kinda nifty.
-
Apparently, so is Captain America's.
-
Costume isn't too bad, though I never much cared for the Ultimates style chin guard.. My main problem is Evans as Cap. Feels too much like Val Kilmer as Batman. i.e Casting someone who seems more like a 'guy' than a 'Man' I would have liked to have seen an older, more manly Cap. That you could believe was a stand up take charge type of hero, who could believably go on to lead the Avengers. And yeah I know that those conscripted into the war were younger, but it could have been chalked up to the super soldier serum turning a younger guy into a man overnight, since it would already be developing his body.. I'm hoping Evans, can somehow accomplish a miracle and pull it off somehow, but I'm very much doubting that he can..
-
I'm sure this movie will be 100x more entertaining than Iron Man 2. Shit, BioDome and the last 6 Michael Bay films were better than Iron Man 2. No wonder John Favreau is not coming back for a third film. The studio heads and toy people really fucked with that movie. The results are in every forced, overcrowded with characters scene. The Rocketeer was one of my favorite 90's films and a well constructed, well acted tribute to the 1930's comic. I have faith that Captain America will suprise the haters. Must be PG-13 and hopefully it features some crazy Nazi experimental stuff (ala Hellboy).
-

...I've always thought Captain Austria had a lot more potential...
by FlickaPoo
...the recurring pretzel symbolism lending itself to a braided design motif for the costume.
-
The faded quality from the scanning adds to the "old" style. His costume will get spiffier after he meets Tony Stark. Do we have to wait for the Avengers movie to see them haul their leader and inspiration out of the ice?
-
Thats the point, and one of the reasons he has a shield.
-
Jan. 13, 2011, 4:57 p.m. CST
I hate to be 27 and posting in a forum that this is awesome...but it's awesome.
by TheMark
I'll reserve judgement on Chris Evans until I see him actually playing the role, but he looks sweet in the costume and really, that's half the job. The other half of the job is memorizing lines in a trailer and saying them in front of lights. Now I keep picturing Evans standing on set yelling "them!" because I reread my last line way too literally.
-
It just looks too modern.
-
Can't wait to see the movie.
-
Doesn't he throw it too?
-
Looks damned good. I have faith in Evans too. He gets a lot of stick but i think he'll do the character proud.
-
with guy called Pheonix Jones dressed up as crime fighter. with heroes like this, who needs movies about superheroes. Hollywood will have a new trend. movies based on real life superheroes.
-
I'm a big fan of Joe Johnston's work, and Cap looks like it is going to kick ass. I half expect to see a Rocketeer cameo, which would totally rule! My excitement for this is very high, especially after the zero reaction I had to the new Spidey suit. Sigh.
-
.... that brown section near his ear looks like Wolverine's mutton chops. Throws the whole look off every time I look at it. I'm sure it'll look better in a clearer picture. Looks pretty damn cool.
-
I'll be the lone voice of dissent here. It sucks. Completely overdesigned. I agree making it out of spandex would have been all wrong for a WWII war movie, but they took it WAY too far. This doesn't look like Captain America. The grey straps - I tried to give them a chance but they're a disaster. They break up the colors so much that you don't know what you're looking at. Plus, the straps make it necessary to shrink down the iconic star a-la the stupid Superman Returns outfit. And what the hell is all that padding about? Different sizes, different depths, different materials, lines going in all different directions . . . I mean, the outfit looks lumpy. Captain America should not look lumpy. Busy, busy, busy. It's the superhero equivalent of the Michael Bay transformer designs. There's so much bullshit going on that you don't know what you're looking at. It's a hot mess. Boo.

kabong: I'm willing to bet frozen Cap is discovered at the end of...
by Royston Lodge
...THOR. Thor's hammer was found at the end of Iron Man II. The existence of S.H.I.E.L.D. was revealed at the end of Iron Man. I am willing to bet $5 (in Canadian currency) that there will be a scene after THOR's end credits where Captain America is found frozen in the ice, probably by Agent Phil Coulson.
-
Costume looks realistic enough for WWII-era Cap, and based on the buzz around this movie, I'm hoping that it will be Iron Man/X-Men 2/Spider-Man 2-good, but only time will tell. Got a bad feeling about Thor, tho.
-
Never found him particularly interesting, but the visual style+Hugo Weaving is good. Gotta admit though I don't have a lot of faith in Joe Johnston, who has proven multiple times to be wildly mediocre. Other than that though, I'm optimistic. Anyone know what the dudes in black are supposed to be? Are they evil henchman or good guys? They look evil. You know, cuz they're wearing black, and...they have goggles. Goggles are evil, right?
-
Perfect.
-
with some modifications
-
Potential for this to be the stand bearer comic book movie going forward. Everything I have seen so far has been total win.
-
That suit should be standard military-issue from now on. They'd get TONS of people to enlist.
-
Long overdue. How many movies has this guy has carried on his charisma alone?
-
I would have preferred if the wings were actually protruding a bit on the helmet but other than that I can totally get behind this. I'm really looking forward to this movie and it's nice to see I'm not the only one. I just can't understand why it's not being released on Independence Day weekend. Seems like a no brainer.

Certainly better than I expected (and quite possibly better than I deserve).
-
That costume rocks! I always loved Captain America and what he stood for. I didn't dig the "troubled soul searching" Steve Rogers Marvel turned him into in the late 80's / 90's. As much as I don't care about the new Spiderman.. I care about Captain America.
-
Its a bit too much... Like brown, red, gray, different blues, padding, bulky crap..... It's a bit much and I like when shit has depth and texture.... If they turn the gray straps to blue in post it will look alot more cohesive. I'm also not digging the brown earmuffs and chinstrap, they should also be blue.

Superman Return costume 10X better than this shit!
by HollywoodHellraiser
You have to be delusional to think this shit looks good. I know people want this to be good but as Iron Man 2 prove, shit is just shit!
-
The ww2 setting alone makes this interesting. Joe back to his old Rocketeering ways and Chris Evans finally getting his big break kinda puts it above Thor on my Most Anticipated list. And Thor is like a god of thunder to me...!
-
Captain America will be the better film. Thor not such much.
-
90% of you are batshit insane. That costume fucking SUCKS. And yes, I'm a Captain America fan.
-
As I've always said, it shoulda been Aaron Eckhart. Trust me, people. I have VISION.
-
I'm still not sure about this thing. I don't like the costume and I still don't buy Chris Evans as Cap, but I sooooo want to love this film. I will be there opening day.
-
This looks good for what it is, but I would have preferred the smoother, iconic costume with the neat boots. What's wrong with a tight costume? It sure worked for Christopher Reeve.
-
I want to learn how he became Captain America again..and again...and again..and again...and again..and again..and again..and again..and again.. and again..and again..and again..and again..and again..and again..and again..and again..and again.. and again..and again..and again..and again.. and again..and again..and again..
-
No wonder the dcfanboys bitch every time they see a still from this!
-
It's apparently a motorcycle suit. Nothing more, nothing less. It serves it's purpose, hell it even has the wings. . . .so now alla you people bitching about his gear not having wings can zip it.
-
Was not sure based on the concept art how this would look in the "real world". I like it, looks close to the period and looks practical. Now I want a trailer!
-
They've done a fine job of balancing WWII era tech with what I assume is ahead-of-its-time Stark Enterprises tech. A great look. Evans was a fine choice for Cap and I am very much looking forward to finally seeing one of my favorite comic book heroes on the silver screen!
-
I wasn't thrilled when Heath Ledger was first cast as the Joker...like the rest of ya, and look how that turned out. I'm giving Evans the benefit of the doubt. So some of you just shut the fuck up till you see the movie.....geeezz! The costume looks like something in the real world.
-
by a brilliant director.Evans and Johnson are in the average level at best.although who gives a fuck, they are making a funny book into a movie ffs not a new Citizen Kane.jesus.
-
On a more serious note, who would win in a fight between Captain A and my brother Harry? I think Captain A becuase he has the super soldier syrum in him and Harry just has high cholesterol. Also, Harry, I know that I havn't been the best brother to you but I would like to start making amends. Please give me a call. Love Larry

If you don't like this costume, you're holding on too tight.
by Ash Talon
Honestly, if you don't like this costume, you're one of two things.
1. You're too much of a hardcore "purist" fan.
2. You're a sourpuss.
Maybe a bit of both. 'nuff said.
-
They've been hooking things together. End of second Hulk movie, Tony Stark told Ross that they were putting together a team. But if it's a post-credit sequence, most of the audiences will miss it.
-
Still not sold on Evans portraying Cap. They should've hired Mark Valley from the Human Target.
-
Costume looks a tad overcomplicated. I can see what they did and why, just looks like it would take an hour to put on. I don't see what was so bad about the Ultimate 40's cap costume in the books. This beyond contemporary- it's downright futuristic.
-
They did previously attempt to bring Cap to the big screen. It ended up a schlocky straight-to-video mess but it was intended for the big screen. I still remember they actually had a teaser poster featuring his shield hanging up at my local theater. But while forgettable, it was the first attemp at a big screen Cap movie. (And I'm not talking about those bad TV movies.)

by golden tribw
But they can't be men because they think anything that isn't concave is a raging boner! That would be a hard-on if the guy had a half-of-one-inch wang, but since Chris Evans has not been announced to suffer from micropenis, can all the crotch-obsessors please stop trying to interpret tumescence where it isn't.
-
Other than the fact that this looks no older than 1996, I approve. Still, come on, this is the big reveal? Some grainy image out of EW? They ought to have had some cool picture out weeks ago!

The more I See of Cap the more I like, and I'm no Cap fan.
by The Founder
Captain America just never did anything for me as a character. I like Cap when he's leading the Avengers, it just feels right with him at the helm but stand alone, no. I've never been moved by the character at all, well I did like when Magneto had him pinned downed with his own shield and he told Mags to look at him and told him when this is over he's going to break every bone in his body. That was the highlight moment for me but it was in the Ultimate universe.

by HarryKnowlesNonExistentInceptionReview
...make him "edgy" and "proactive".
-
for a walking, talking, fighting propaganda poster, he looks so good.
-
Why the fuck do people complain about "all these comic book movies"??? Don't fucking watch them. Problem solved. There are lots of "grown up movies", go fucking watch some.
-
At least they didn't give him fake nipples. Oh, wait... they gave him rivets on top of fake nipples! The chin strap looks like he's wearing headgear braces. Very awkward.
-
I think it would be better with a more conventional helmet and a visor or goggles. That eyehole helmet just looks cumbersome. The rest of the outfit isn't bad but it looks overly complicated and fussy. Too many straps, pads, belts, and hoops. If the military actually had a cap back then, they probably would have just dyed up some conventional fatigues in the red, white, and blue.
-
I have a feeling I'm going to prefer the classic costume used in the USO show.
-
he's not carrying enough bags!!!

by THE_CHOPPAH
And, Yes, there will be a Secret Wars movie, dammit!
-
very realistic for what a technologically advanced superhero would look/dress like in America WW2 at first glance...biker material/get up from the future, very practical-functional design but clearly stylised etc. it looks like they've even let the helmet remain a bit dorky looking for the actual man to fill out, to be true to the era...
-
Obviously you are a troll and not a Cap fan.
-
There's something about Joe Johnson's films that just turn me off. An underlying cheese factor, and not in a good Sam Raimi way, more like a Wolfgang Petersen/Renny Harlin cheese.
-
If they want to make it look like the costume was designed in the 40s, why not use the original? It was *literally designed in the 1940s*. That is all.
-
You're an asshole! But at least you're ignorant...
-
I mean, that design is literally what people in the 1940s actually thought would look like something a super solider would wear. Why change it? The guy who came up with Cap is still alive. Go ask him.
-
gerhard_futkanister
-
That's the suit? Seriously? I didn't know the GI Joe sequel had Captain America.

...is Cap's package and NOT that wicked-ass helmet! Seriously, guys, you're giving fanboys an even worse name. That said, this is a fantastic look! Love that they went with the Ultimates-style integrated helmet and mask (though that look was for the modern version of his outfit, not the 1940s one). Now if Joe Johnston was able to subdue his anti=American bias enough to do an American icon right, we'll be okay. Otherwise it's "Truth, Justice...all that stuff" one more God-damned time!
-
I can see this working in the WWII era, though I'm hoping for a dramatic modernization in the Avengers movie (he'd look silly standing next to Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow or Hawkeye). I can also see Steve Rogers a little embarrassed to be wearing this and kind of getting fun poked at him by the other military guys...at least until they see what he can do, skill-wise. His attitude, nobility and charisma is what will then win everyone over...that, and probably his willingness to throw himself into the worst shitstorm of any battle he and the troops find themselves in.
-
Am I the only one noticing a similarity of the suits in the back to the Mark I. I could see them throwing a little homage in that manner. Then Cap waking up and knowing Tony's dad better then the son, etc. Emotional moment, single tear.

Any of you goons read The Ultimates? This is fresh outta it!

This costume is almost a pitch perfect copy of Bryan Hitch's design for a practical Cap costume. It does seem to incorporate the wings on the helmet though which Ultimate Cap does not.
I am not quite a fan of only 2 red stripes across the torso though. I get the make them a continuation of the straps thing, but I would like red stripes around the whole torso.
Also, I gotta wonder, if this is the WWII era design how are they gonna update it to look more modern while still looking very Cap-like for the 21st Century and The Avengers film?
