Dimension Films Acquires Kristoffer Aaron Morgan's THE HOME! Hooray, Kraken And Quint!

Beaks here...

Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta is spreadin' the news this morning that Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe's horror movie THE HOME has been picked up by Dimension Films. Obviously, everyone at AICN is thrilled that our own Kraken and Quint are going to have the support of a major genre distributor before they even begin shooting. Very few independently financed movies are this fortunate. And no one deserves a turn of good fortune more than Eric and Aaron.

We've already revealed the incredible cast for the boys' feature debut, but in case you missed it, feast your eyes on these names: Brian Cox, Louise Fletcher, Ed Asner, Cloris Leachman, Louis Gossett Jr. and Fionnula Flanagan. No shortage of badass performances between these folks (not to mention a number of Oscars and Emmys). The film will be produced by Elizabeth Avellan and Elijah Wood with practical f/x coming courtesy of the geniuses at KNB.

THE HOME has been described as a Lovecraftian horror yarn about a badly-injured firefighter left to recuperate in a seriously fucked-up (and likely haunted) nursing home. If ever there was a milieu rich with horrific potential, it's a nursing home. Can't wait to see what Aaron and Eric have in store for us. Congrats, fellas!

We haven't broken a single piece of news on THE HOME. This is on purpose. Much of what's come out has been "unofficial", and since this is Eric's home site, it would look extremely unprofessional if we were consistently leaking financing news, casting news, distribution deals, etc. prematurely. It also helps that Eric and Aaron have been extremely tight-lipped as THE HOME has worked its way through development and preproduction. This doesn't mean I haven't heard things from my own sources (which Bloody-Disgusting and Slashfilm have been mining), but if I *did* break something, folks involved in negotiations would immediately suspect I heard it from Eric - which has *never* been the case. Basically, we don't want to jeopardize a really great thing for our friends, so we've happily let other sites take the lead in covering THE HOME.

    by Harry Weinstein

They got The Weinstein Company instead. Best of luck fellas, you're certainly going to need it now.

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 2:56 p.m. CST

    Beaks I can understand that.

    by UGG

I remember shitstorm's over Drew's script review I think it was. And I can understand if there are actuall legal issues involved, with deal's and such. But as long as you tell reader's, By the way "" wrote this, I don't think it would be so bad.

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 2:58 p.m. CST

    just a question though...

    by yourSTEPDADDY

...the movie CANT be reviewed here, right? and if it actually does come out, I imagine a lot of TBers will be banned... I mean, A WHOLE FUCKIN LOT

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 3:38 p.m. CST

    by mrbeaks

Perhaps it wouldn't be a big deal, but why risk it. It's so goddamn hard to get a movie made in this town. So many opportunities for everything to fall apart (and frankly, the aggressive reporting of people being "attached" or "in talks" nowadays fucks up more projects than it helps). No need to make it any tougher on our friends.

  • Kidding of course, but I do understand what you mean. That's why I also think most readers can understand when to wish genuine good luck to a genuine acomplishment, like in this case with Quint and Krakken, and can see right through posts like pimping out Pinball arcades in one part of the world only in the guise of a New Year well wishing!

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 5:43 p.m. CST

    Congrats fellas!

    by toshiro-solo

So - Quint - as another Jaws nerd - you're going to use your presumably fat wad of Dimension cash to find a way to get "The Shark is Still Working" distributed, right? :^)

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 6:16 p.m. CST

THIS sounds like a true film geek movie

    by ROBRAM89

I'm genuinely excited for this. Good luck, Quint.

    by BadMrWonka

You could write a horror movie aimed at English teachers about a talkbacker named Ugg who finds a way to misplace every single apostrophe he writes. It could be called, "Ugh." I mean, that's how I feel when I read your illegible whiny rants about AICN. Uggghhhh... I'd go to see it!

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 8:47 p.m. CST

    by UGG

wow, thanks, I think, I mean, I'm pretty sure I could scower AICN history and find a post from you whining, quite possibly, about AICN,.., Sorry,

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 9:58 p.m. CST

    ugg '..',''','

    by BadMrWonka

please do go ahead and try to find a post of me complaining about this site. I've been defending AICN against whiners for 10 years. you can probably find hundreds of posts of me demoralizing whiny children like you, who love to yell shit like, "Ain't it old news! this was on my sister's friend's dentist's blog like 3 hours ago!! OLD NEWS!!!! AAAAHHH" Not to mention you and a lot of others are ragging on AICN right now WHEN THE SITE IS BEING COMPLETELY REDESIGNED. of course there will be bugs, less articles, etc. etc. Their only other choice was to shut down the site completely for 6 weeks or so. and then what would negative nancies like you do for fun? and by extension, what would I do for fun if I didn't have you to rip apart? I guess we can all be glad that AICN is still going. now, get to work on that screenplay, kiddo. it's' not going to right it'sself.

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 10:01 p.m. CST

    by BadMrWonka

and not for nothing, but...."scower"? I mean, come on man. the squiggly red lines underneath a word mean that it's NOT A WORD. just put in a LITTLE effort, could you?

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 10:05 p.m. CST

    Your right

    by UGG

All I could find were post's of you whining at people who whine about the site. And whining at people for not spelling correctly or using the write gramma. You must have a field day on here, I mean an international web site, with readers from around the world, who's first language may or may not be English.

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 10:54 p.m. CST

    by BadMrWonka

lol...I don't ever make fun of someone who speaks English as a second language. but if your first language is "never paid attention in middle school", I don't feel guilty at all.

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 11:17 p.m. CST

    by D.Vader

I do like you, but man, you are such an AICN fanboy. And I doubt you'll dispute that =).

  • Jan. 5, 2011, 11:23 p.m. CST

Why does it bother you so?

    by UGG

There could be many reasons why my spelling and gramma are below acceptable Wonka standards. I could be working through Google translate, dyslexic, lazy, severly retarded or just plain stupid, or as you rightly pointed out someone who "never paid attention in middle school" whatever that is.. Or did I just overstep your mark by dissing your precious website. If so I do apologise, I won't ask a question ever again. "Heil Grammatik"

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 2:33 a.m. CST

    by BadMrWonka

people writing like a mentally retarded monkey bugs me, but I can let that go. people whining about AICN for nonsensical reasons irk me, but I can let it go. but when you combine the's like Key Lime Pie for me, I have to take a bite. and D.Vader, I love the site, and if that makes me a fanboy, sure, I'll take that. I've been called worse. mostly, I just feel like the people that consistently complain about the site, and then COME BACK HERE TO THE TALKBACKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, need a contrary viewpoint to hold them to a level of sanity. If someone went to an Italian restaurant every day, and every day whined and bitched that they didn't serve sushi, we would think they were mentally deranged. That is how, in real life, we would think of those people. But online, it seems that they're accepted. It's crazy behavior, and I pride myself on calling them out. That said, I don't think anyone should be banned for asking questions. :o)

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 7:51 a.m. CST

    This is AICN right?

    by UGG

The web mecca of complaining? I was genuinely intrigued as to why another site would have this story first I suspected it was maybe for the reason Beaks pointed out, and was happy to find out it was. I don't think I complain that much, or not as much as alot of readers here. Yea I mentioned Harry's New Year post, it dosen't really bother me that much, not as much as bad gramma seem's to bother you anyway. But it did irk me that Harry's New Year greeting to his readers seemed more like an Ad for an arcade he visited. An arcade that's in only one part of the world it seem's. Sorry. Fine, it's Harry's site he can do what he want's, he can criticise other people's work, but we can't criticise his though? I think this site has been going down hill since before this change, with act's like Vader's banning and other's. As a reader I have the right to voice my opinions. Maybe if you stop coming here for a few months like I did you'll come back and notice a change, realise what a mostly hate filled place this is, and how it can turn most genuine good people into borderline bully's.. It don't think it even bothers Harry that people whine, in fact he love's it if I remember correctly. So why does it bother you? And you didn't even realise. My name is UGG of course I can't spell I'm a cave dwelling troglodyte who was discovered 10 years ago in a glacier in Switzerland and have been slowly taught English by Swiss and German scientists in Geneva over the past few years, I think I'm doing pretty well too. I mean I dnt tk like sum 13 yr old grl txtin her grlfrens!

    is a cunt... *NOTED*

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 11:35 a.m. CST

    Ha! A bit harsh yourstepdaddy

    by UGG

but sadly you could be right, I didn't have a bad thing to say about Wonka, he always seemed ok to me, but it seem's the Grammar Nazi in him or his Aicn loyalty badge brings out something, ugly?

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 2:17 p.m. CST

    by thecheesegrommit

Most excellent news indeed! Best of luck with the project. Can't wait to see it!!!

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 2:44 p.m. CST

    "below acceptable Wonka standards"

I'm sorry but this made me chuckle. I will now forever imagine Ugg as a little fat midget getting told off by a tall, skinny guy in a purple top hat because the Three-Course Dinner Chewing Gum isn't up to scratch.

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 6:53 p.m. CST

    Congrats guys!!!!

    by lv_426

The concept sounds like a good one for a horror flick. I am also glad to hear of more Lovecraftian elements being deployed in an upcoming horror film.

  • Jan. 6, 2011, 9:24 p.m. CST

    ah, "grammar nazi"...

    by BadMrWonka

it's a great term, because it aligns people that can write properly with the most evil people in history. therefore, peabrains who can't must be fighting the good fight, rather than just being dumb. it's a really clever gambit, ironically enough employed almost exclusively by dimwits. and just a note: misspelling words when writing is fairly normal. but misspelling them when typing online, when any word you type incorrectly is UNDERLINED IN RED, doesn't just show you're not too bright, it shows you're lazy too. that's a good combo. of course, it's better than being a Nazi, right?

  • Jan. 7, 2011, 7:21 a.m. CST

I'm really happy for you Quint, but I just have one question.

    by brokentusk

I'm truly happy for you, man. This is definitely good news, but aren't you worried about the Weinsteins re-editing the film, or demanding a PG-13 cut? They could be trying to change things up, but the Dimension track record hasn't been too impressive lately.

  • Jan. 7, 2011, 8:36 a.m. CST

    Bill Erwin obit??

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

I thought I'd give it a few days. It's the new year. We got Ann Francis. Where the hell is the Bill Erwin obit? If you don't know the name, you know the face. This great character actor has been in everything. He lived every geeks dream by being in a movie with JCVD. Everyone oohs and aaahs over his appearance on Seinfeld. I never cared for that show or saw the episode. His career peak was starring with Christopher Reeve, Christopher Plummer, and Jane Seymour in Somehwere in Time. That's a movie. Although I guess technically he wasn't in the movie with Plummer and Seymour.

  • Jan. 7, 2011, 3:52 p.m. CST

    Dear MrWonka..

    by UGG

Do you actually read the reviews and stories posted by the writers of this site? By your definition then the writers here are "retarded, dumb, dimwits and peabrains." Because no other site I know on the net put's up articles by their main writers with as many spelling and grammar mistakes as this one. Your head must explode when you read one of Harry's special's. I don't care, there still great read's at times, so why do you? And why aren't you goosestepping all over Harry's articles? And have you read Tarantinos "grammar-scalping" Inglourious Basterds script? Maybe then, I could even be him one day if my writing is so terrible and we're so stupid? Also what redline? I type straight into the TB box, I use no redline. Is that how you notice and correct all your mistakes then? And christian_bale, Your not far wrong on my description, and the truth is BadMrWonka actually sacked me for letting these slip out onto the market.. Oops..

  • Jan. 7, 2011, 4:03 p.m. CST

Also it may be on purpose,

    by UGG

but you never seem to capitalise after a period?

  • Jan. 7, 2011, 5:10 p.m. CST

    yeah, I don't capitalize much.

    by BadMrWonka

maybe it's in honor of bell hooks. maybe it's just easier when typing online. and yeah, the articles are riddled with mistakes, sure. Harry's especially. but it's not the people making mistakes that are the problem, it's the people who seem to regard bad writing as a virtue. so much so that if someone jokingly points out how bad it is, they resort to calling them the worst insult they can come up with, a Nazi. everyone makes mistakes, but hell, at least feel a little stupid when they're pointed out for you. although after Bush's success (and god forbid, Palin's as well), perhaps I just have to come to grips with the fact that apathetic writing IS an American virtue. perhaps you should re'right the pledge of allegiance in ugg-speak. it would probably be even more popular. as for the red line...I'm typing right into the same box you are. not sure why you've disabled your notifications, but perhaps it's for the best. your computer would run out of red pixels pretty quickly.

  • obviously you know that, and your like some sort of nerd bully who won't stop pounding me with your brains. I've never read any bell hooks, there I said it I'm sorry. Don't worry though I'm no "jock? bully" I'm not even American so write your allegiance however you want. I'm sorry I may slip in some vernacular or idioms or whatever from my local dialect and that it enrages you so, but I don't see what makes you think I "regard bad writing as a virtue." And I don't see how being "called out on it" is a joke. Also I don't think it help's posting on here whilst stoned, drunk or under any other substance which I sometimes am, I do apologize as I do try to double check. If my terrible writing offends you so much here, search Google for greasemonkey aicn script, and you can add me to an ignore list (or Hilite me if you wish friendo ;p). And is that it now then, I take it Godwins Law is now in effect, I mean we've had Nazi's AND Bush AND Palin?

  • Jan. 8, 2011, 11:08 p.m. CST

    ignore list?

    by BadMrWonka

my dog, I didn't know such a thing existed. I think that's terrible. it's dangerous for anyone to be able to just filter out any opposing viewpoints. and I'm only sort of american. I was born here, but I grew up all over, russia, england, spain, germany, etc. anyway, sorry to have been so harsh. the last few weeks have just been rough because people are truly ripping this site a new one, and I've been coming here for a third of my life. it was part of the reason I went to film school, yada yada. it's hard to see it get ripped apart as they are redesigning it (something people have been requesting they do for years). so I hereby grant you a pass from having your grammar and spelling picked apart by the nefarious Mr. Wonka. The hand strikes! And gives a flower...

  • Jan. 9, 2011, 2 p.m. CST

Yea I thought it would help with spammers

    by UGG

but I forgot they just keep signing up using different username's. But also theres a few thing's of use, like Hilite Mine and Auto Expand All, the only real problem that it doesn't fix is I still have to keep logging back in each time. I haven't added anyone on my ignore list yet, but you came close! ;) Also I do agree the people that are complaing about the layout of the site are getting a tad annoying, as I find the old school design part of AICN's charm and am now getting used to the change's. I too have been visiting here for nigh on a decade, and I'll admit it's mainly because the Talkbacks never fail to give me a laugh. I do think Harry's got maybe a bit too much on his plate these day's (giggle) and the site's news update's and new redesign suffer slightly, but that's no main fault of Harry's and the only real thing I dislike is when "ad like" stories are posted if you know what I mean. But hey that's my problem and I'll try keep it to myself in future. I still like coming here to discuss and vent frustration on movie's (mainly) though and I think your a good guy because I'm pretty sure we've had a good discussion or two in the past, when I went under more forgetful username's. I accept your hand and sniff your flower Mr. Wonka!
