Arnold to next remake an old Randolph Scott movie'
You ever see SEVEN MEN FROM NOW? It was an old 1956 western starring Randolph Scott as a man bent on revenge after his wife and child are killed by... 7 men. He sets out to track each and everyone of the SOBs down and kill em in cold blood. It also featured ol Lee Marvin (someone you should idolize) and the movie was pretty damn good.
But you've probably never seen it. Nearly all them old Randolph Scott westerns aren't available to be seen on video, laserdisc or dvd. So... it makes excellent remake material for someone like Arnold.
Mind you, Zorianna Kit and Anita Busch didn't have access to the background of this project... it's basic roots... but I've been digging on this one for a while now. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Brothers and Schwarzenegger are close to signing up to make COLLATERAL DAMAGE, a much... tougher and testosterone driven title than SEVEN MEN FROM NOW, but it's still the same basic story... and I've been working on getting a copy of this script which I've heard is actually pretty damn good.
Zorianna and Anita say the film would begin shooting in June after Arnold finishes up THE SIXTH DAY, but then they postulate that Arnold would either make Cameron's TRUE LIES 2 (if a script is ready) or Frank Darabont and Chuck Russell's directorial team-up DOC SAVAGE: MAN OF BRONZE. I should be bumping into Frank pretty soon so I'll drill him for info and enlightenment on DOC SAVAGE, as I'm a diehard DOC SAVAGE fan... even got me Certificate of Savagery on my wall here at GEEK HEADQUARTERS.
Do ya think that in 40 years there will be some great parody of the latter 80's/90's action film starring some distinctly un-action fella who'll say the line, "You'd do it for Arnold Schwarzeneggar?!" to which a mass of imperiled citizens would cross their heart and sing his name like a church hymn? As John Wayne often said.... "That'll be the day...."

We live in a time when more old movies are available than ever before, on video, laserdisc, DVD, and occasionally in new cinema prints. I sometimes imagine people like Scorsese who had to go to film school before they had access to any old movies, and I feel lucky. But think of all the movies we'll never see - films, like this western Harry mentioned, which were part of a genre and therefore considered two-a-penny. It's sad. I love the fact I sometimes stay up till 4am and catch some long-forgotten 1940s crime movie or something and it turns out to brilliant, and I think 'How could I ever have not known about this film'? One thing I'm just beginning to get into at the moment is silent film, which is much-neglected except amongst pretensious circles. Ah, I'm gabbling.

He is a used to be........- move on. And to all of You who love Arnold - I feel sorry for You!
-
well we alle love Arnold. But he's a has been. End of Days was a comedy because of his acting. It was the definite proof that Ah-nuld is the worst actor ever. He's a guy who's fucking great in films like Terminator, Predator and True Lies because we believe that this big guy can do all that stuff. Big he can't act so whenever he tries to make a film that demands some kind of acting ability. It just turns out to be a big laugh. Ah-nuld is an action hero and he should stick to that or don't do movies at all. He should stick to the movies where he has to beat the crap out of a couple of 100 bad guys. That's his game. And he is good at it.
-
And I think in fifty years time action movies will looked back on fondly and respected as the mark of a bygone age. They will be shown at 1.30 every afternoon when most people are at school or work for us oldies to watch...and remember with a tear in our eye.
And TPM will be regarded as the greatest movie ever. -
I'm very confident that all Arnold needs is a good director to have a good performance. His best work (Terminator, T2, Total Recall, True Lies, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Predator) is all the result of working with a good director. In these films his performances work and,(dare I say it?)are good. Or maybe he just needs to do another film that starts with the letter "T". (wow, I never noticed that before)
-
Sounds like one of those Seagal/Van Damme flicks from the late 80's("He's a cop with a chip on his shoulder, a .44 in hand, and COLLATERAL DAMAGE on his mind...Coming soon" oh wait, they still make movies like that) Anyways, even though End of Days sucked, I still think he could pull off a good dramatic role, with the right director(like someone said before). Ah, screw it, he just needs to pick up a big gun or sword, and do a movie like Conan 3, Crusades, or Raw Deal 2(just jokin' on that one). Arnold, I love you, but End of Days was not any different from your other roles. If you're gonna do the dramatic thing, NO one-liners. "Go To Hell"

To SSZero, Fairlane, Dr. X about the man known as SCHWARZENEGGER
by abking
SSZero, you say Arnold will get a welfare check??? EOD was number 3, with a heavy R rating and shit reviews and still did a great 20.5 million in 3 days and 31.5 million in 5 days. WAKE THE FUCK UP. You are too angry. Smile once in a while. Fairlane, don't feel sorry for us Arnold fans because this new Warner Brothers film sounds to me like the role Jericho Cane wasn't: a bad ass killing machine hell bent on killing some bad guys (COMMANDO anyone). Plus, isn't Andrew Davis a fair to very good director and not a hack like Peter Hyams? Dr.X, you need to check the box-office numbers (like SSZero) then wait for Arnold and Cameron to kick some mad ass when TRUE LIES 2 starts filming next year. All three of you, repeat after me: ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER is hear to stay. By the way, EOD is tearing up the box-office charts already overseas (go to variety). Did you guys say Arnold was a "has been"? I think not...

exactly - garbage = Indenpendence Day - but still $$$$$

We now know that Ah-nult can still open a film (by way of booking appearances on everything short of regional Public Access,) but if the film doesn't pass that $100 million barrier, it'll obviously be a setback for the hulking Austrian. BTW, how many projects does Schwarzenegger have in development? I like this SEVEN MEN FROM NOW-inspired story, but by the time he gets to it, he'll be damn near sixty. Clint had (hell, has) that kind of longevity. We'll have to wait and see with Ah-nult (the biggest stumbling block could be the ever-beckoning California Governor's seat.) Just make DOC SAVAGE, and I'll be happy.

...when it was called "the crow." okay, so the randolph scott flick came first, but the plot sounds the same (except for the coming back from the dead angle). dunno, sounds cool. i doubt i'll go to the theatre to catch "end of days," but like most arnold flicks i'm sure i'll catch it at home. by the way, guys, LIGHTEN THE HELL UP! movies are just movies, and they should only brighten your life, not BE your life.

Everytime I come to this site, there's something here that freak
by all thumbs
...usually it's a posting from a lame-ass, I can't use caps or punctuation Talk Baker, but today it's Harry. Right now...yes, RIGHT NOW...I'm supposed to be writing and finishing a rough draft of at least 3 or 4 pages of a paper I'm doing on the Searchers, the movie and role John Wayne said was his favorite in all his acting years. And here's Harry with this report about a movie with some themes of Searchers and John Wayne's famous line at the end of his rambling. Coincidence? Or is Harry sending out some signal from this site that is slowly reading our minds....I better go write my paper.
-
...which is due in two hours and I haven't typed a word. (Like any of you care.) BUT...is Arnie doing a WESTERN or is it an action flik with the same basic premise, but not set in a Western-type storyline (like, Old West...I'm sure it will have western themes and archtypes...sorry, paper mode)? Will it be some present-day romp around the country or world where Arnie goes and finds these guys and guns 'em down like the dogs they are? 'Cause I just cannot see Arnold in a true, downhome, Old West Western a la Eastwood and Wayne.

He had years to pick the 'right' script and landed on END OF CAREERS. The thirteen year olds I went with to the film knew it was terrible. The audience slinked out miserably after it ended, $8.50 poorer. He allies himself with mediocre directors and throws together half-baked projects left and right. Nothing will be any better unless there is a director Arnold is willing to hand over the creativity to. The film this man needs to do is KING CONAN, based on the comic where the king is 60 years old, grizzled but still feared, a man of few words (and this is VERY important) and feeling like he is mellowing - until his son is kidnapped and he SNAPS! Classically shot with BRAVEHEART battles and evil sorcery, Arnold would be the greatest older Cimmerian. Script is too important for them to get right though. I won't hold my breath. Arnold is a far superior human being than most with great discipline and charisma - though unfortunately, no acting skill. Hopefully, he'll get a break in quality. And whoever said films shouldn't be your life is a sad little individual. What should be your life? Don't try to appear wiser than you are. Passion is what created you and your world. Don't dismiss it because you're dumb if you do.
-
If there weren't people who made movies their life, you'd have nothing to talk back about.
-
Jesus, I hope Arnold either turns down or is dropped from this movie adaption. He's all wrong for Doc Savage. Yes, physically there may be a resemblance, but that godawful, thick as the shit outta Roger Ebert's jelly ass after a heavy Tex-Mex dinner is a sure-fire believability killer. Savage is supposed to be the American representation of the pinnacle of human achievement, a self made superman in all things, strength, endurance, intelligenge, deductive reasoning, science, medicine, even the arts. How are you able to suspend belief for such a character when the "actor" portraying him can't even pronounce the r in his own fucking name? And, let's be blunt, Arnold's a good decade or more too old for the role. Disaster is fast approaching. With Arnold leading this picture, it's doomed to end up as shitty and as stupid as the Shadow and Phantom movies.
There I said my piece. -
That Roger Ebert visual was too much for me.
-
If this remake is a western, do you suppose they will dub good old Arnold's voice like in his first major motion picture? Or will Ah-nuld be running around spouting carefully enunciated Austrian catch phrases about horses, saloons, and cowboys? Either way it really sounds great! Dontcha think?
-
I really can't believe the old flick isn't avalible. It seems that EVERY damn movie ever made is at least on video (and getting to DVD, Harry have you seen some of the shit that's comming out? You know when Xanadu is released that DVDs are here to stay) and especially staring Lee Marvin. He had to be one of the cooliest actors ever! Go watch The Man who Shot Liberty Vallance to see this guy perform.
Anyway, my father was happier than a fly on shit last weekend, I get up to his place and he has 15 westerns with John Wayne in them. I had never heard of any of the titles. Turns out, these are the ones Wayne pumped out like hotcakes while he was under contract with Republic, they are all B movies, but I had never seen them before.
Also caught a kick ass mystery/adventure movie on the Mystery channel called I Love a Mystery! There are tons of old flicks out there that are worth the 80 minutes of your time.
Sadly, only a handful of Lon Chaney's slients exist. I heard the guy did a shit load of them, and we have only a few. At least Phantom is one of them.
-
Do we really need another movie that glorifies revenge? Everyone knows that revenge does nothing for the feeling of loss that one gets when one's family is murdered. But to see any Hollywood movie, you'd think that any ammount of grief can be cured by going on a killing spree. If the do make it, Arnold is perfect...keep all the shit in one place, I say.
-
I don't have anything to say on this topic, and I fully expect this post to be deleted rather quickly... But since Harry and his crew seem to be ignoring our inquiries into the status of the Forums I'll post here... For those of you who used to use the forums, to talk or just read and miss having it around we have set up a "temporary" one until Harry gets them back up...if he gets them back up. Most of us intend on returning if they are put back up, but until then we're using a forum at hostboard, so if you want, come on over and join in.
It's at hostboard.com in the film section and the name is "Our Forum"... Biddle

I'm sorry but True Lies 2 doesn't sound like it was meant to be. Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis are both getting old. Especially Jamie Lee Curtis. She's too fucking old to be considered good looking now. I don't think James Cameron really wants to do this. I think Titanic 2 will be better than True Lies 2.
-
I can't fault him for wanting to stretch his acting muscles. End of Days is...well, I don't know...I'm not going to see it. But I have a pretty good idea of the formula, and it doesn't interest me. What I do find abhorrent was his shameless plugging of the movie, and him hawking himself like a piece of meat for the past two weeks to anyone who would listen to him. He became the End of Days whore. I don't think I've ever seen him make such a fool of himself since The Last Action Hero (which I enjoyed by the way).

I agree Mansin, I don't know how Harry can possibly say that Arn
by dennis
They resemble each other physically, and it stops there. Besides, any attempt to turn DS into a film is going to be a tongue-in-cheek caustic 90's version of Doc anyway. The character won't translate well into the modern era. It really has to be a period piece, or something on the scale of Burton's Batman, which existed in its own place and time. A better bet would be an animated film, or better yet, a cartoon miniseries, like the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest.

Gee Dr. X, you sound bitter. The only people who ever got their asses flamed were people who posted crap for a reaction and couldn't handle the reaction they got. You're right about one thing though, it can get a bit intimidating considering the "community" atmosphere, but anyone who came in with the intent of actually talking film and having a sense of humor regarding the banter usually stuck around. Oh, and I won't dispute that I'm an asshole, that's well documented... but the group of people who make up the forum are a decent and diverse group. More isn't always better, I will concede on one other point you made, we did at times get knee-jerk reactive to newcomers who started off on the wrong foot, but one of our regulars has gone out of his way to point out to us that a little tolerence goes a long way... which I see very little of here in Talk Back.

Now that would be cool news indeed...

I just received e-mail the day after Thanksgiving from a buddy of mine, Mr Tom Muzila, stunt-coordinator (Three Kings). He told me that he's lined up to work on this project with Arnie called 'Collateral Damage' and that 'The Terminator' is inches away from signing. Tom is also pitching a script I'm currently writing, to Billy Zane, a close friend of his, and Mark Dacascos as a starring vehicle for the two them. Genre:Supernatural Thriller/Action. Robin Shou is also being approached. After the abyssmal 'MK:The Abomination', his career needs a shot of adrenaline and he's perfect for the part lined up for him.

This film was the basis, if I'm not mistaken, for a dreadful Richard Harris western called The Deadly Trackers. Sam Fuller was the original director but he was pulled from the project and it was finished by Barry Shear. Harris played an Irish born sheriff of a Texas town who, one by one, tracks down the killers of his wife and son.
As regards Randolph Scott westerns, please check out Ride the High Country, which I saw for the first time last week. Peckinpah film that predates the Wild Bunch but deals, not surprisingly, with a couple of old timers trying to adjust to the new west in the early part of the 20th century, while working one last job, protecting a gold shipment.
