Interresting how much cynicism there is this Xmas

    by lochkray

There's this, the latest family guy christmas episode, and a general feeling of disdain hovering over Christmas 2010 that I've observed. Probably has something to do with the economy. I'll have to check Christmas television episodes from 1989 to see how the last major recession affected the yultide season. Anyway, Merry Christmas Harry (if you read this). Family duties should keep me from my usual skulking around the AICN site (and internet in general) for the next couple of days, so all the best. And a hope that people will keep their chins up until the next economic boom, and remember the line from that "I Believed In Father Christmas" song: Hallelueya, Noel, Be it heaven or hell, the Christmas you get, you deserve.

    The Night Before Christmas...

    Narration?

    by Cole Lunz

Does anyone know the actor who provided the narration? I'm pretty sure it's not him, but I kept getting a Mike Meyers (in Scottish voice) vibe.

Video not actually made by Gaiman

    by KC1989

The poem was written by Gaiman but he didn't make or fund the video. A Chinese production company made it as their company Christmas card. Gaiman linked to it on his blog because he was so impressed and rightfully so, it's a brilliant piece of work.

lochkray you're thinking too deeply about xmas

    by happyboy

Gaiman is a Jew that explains his deep antipathy and loathing towards Christmas and the joy and optimism of the season. For his part McFarlane's Xmas episode clearly was based on Gaiman's poem of a miserable Santa. Christmas is fine.

Johnny Depp is Morphius. Brad Pitt is Lucifer Morningstar.

    by UltraTron

Xavier Bardham is The Corinthian. Eva Green is Death. With a special appearance by Tim Roth as Hellblazer. God I'd kill for that over another pirates

I wish we could skip ahead about four months

    by elgato73

because then Gaiman's Doctor Who episode would be on. DAMN IT! I want the new season to start NOW! After seeing the Christmas special today, we need more new Who! The one minute long teaser rocked the house and just left everybody I know wanting to get this season started. And supposedly Gaiman's episode may hark back to a character or characters from back in the Doctor's past, ie The Wargames.

    speaking of dr who..

    by emeraldboy

the christmas ep aired Christmas day.... so how come no mention of that. is this site waiting for dr who to hit the states. a bit lazy, that....

    lochkray and happy boy

    by drave117

Neil Gaiman wrote that little poem for a collection of 100 word stories something like twenty years ago. And he clearly loves Christmas, as even a cursory glance at his blog will show.

  • Dec. 27, 2010, 5:16 a.m. CST

I thought the christmas special was very good...

    by emeraldboy

if a little stagey. Katherine Jenkins was not required to do very much except act a little, lie still and of course sing beautifully and she is gorgeous. dubliner micheal gambon is one of the greatest stage actors of all time. he was born in Dublins fair city in Cabra. Season six looks awesome but so did the trailer for season 5 which started great but as we know didnt match the heights of matt smiths introduction season six will be more pandorica, more amy and more river song. it also looks very creepy indeed and who were those men with the paper bags over thier heads and whats with the scars .....

  • Dec. 27, 2010, 5:24 a.m. CST

    dr who christmas special...

    by emeraldboy

also the score was a bit intrusive. without giving too much away there is a line between amy and the dr which thanks to the score was totally ruined. it was a very very important line. it was like as if someone said lets take the music from season 5 trailer and shove it into the xmas special.

  • Dec. 28, 2010, 4:16 p.m. CST

    Very 'Burtoneseque'...

    by Joaquin_Ondamoon

    'Merry' Christmas indeed.

    Nicholas Was...

    by Henry Fool

As soon as I saw the "Merry Christmas from Neal Gaiman" logo, I thought of his short, short story, Nicholas Was. I've seen it published in two Neal Gaiman story collections and read it to many of my friends. It's a darkly funny, pragmatic take on the Santa myth. It always puts a smile on my face.

  • Dec. 28, 2010, 8:06 p.m. CST

You know what the perfect gift from Gaiman would be?

    by David_Denmans_Beard

Getting Death: The High Cost of Living done and in theatrical circulation. Forget the Dr. Who episode, I want a film that's been over 10 years in gestation to get fucking DONE.
