Something to MARVEL at... THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA & AVENGERS!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... with a glimpse at a couple of things I received from Marvel at BUTT-NUMB-A-THON. For quite a while, it looked like we were going to have some awesome exclusive footage, but the only stuff that was ready to go was what was shown at Comic Con - and they felt if they didn't have the new wow, it would be best not to interrupt the flow of features... and I absolutely agreed. But they did surprise me with a couple of gifts, which I'm sure were meant to share with you.
The first thing I have to show you is the cover to the "Birthday Card" that Kevin Fiege sent with these two gifts. I really hope that's the tone and look that Joss Whedon is aiming the AVENGERS with! But it could have zip to do with the film production... in fact it was a cover to a comic, that I missed, but it is cool looking.

Next - I have one of the original Cast & Crew posters made by the great Olly Moss. There were only 100 of these printed, signed and numbered. This represents the only one not owned by a member of the cast or crew. #93:

The last thing is Kevin Feige's favorite piece of Captain America Concept Art, which was done by the great production illustratrator, Ryan Meinerding. I love that this is in black & white. The artwork looks great in the frame at my house, I need to break out my NIKON and do a real professional shot, but for now - this is what I have to show... Enjoy:

minus .99 for shipping and handling and $14.00 for expecting anything

Cool stuff! On a different note, I have to object to the font choice you're using though Harry. It looks like a form of Comic Sans and it hurts me to read it. It's a minor complaint though. I do like the majority of improvements on the site as of late.
-
That's the cover of Secret Invasion #6 from 2008. Notice how Cap's costume is actually not the one from the film, but the one that Steve Rogers' former partner Bucky now wears as Cap.
-
So it's from current comics continuity, and likely has nothing to do with the film. Nice image though. They're all pretty cool, but I'm still not digging movie-Cap's helmet.
-
Its Gabriel Del Otto.
-
And as good as that Avengers image is (and has already been pointed out) it's one of the covers to Secret Invasion (that's Bucky as Cap' A).
-
by Gabriel Dellotto (sp?)
-
Please tell me this isn't the new look for the site. On Subject: Yeah that Pic of Bucky Cap, Iron Man and Thor is (I believe) from a mini-series that just recently came out. Pretty freakin' sweet tho.
-
Seriously, give me some stills instead.
-
Busted hoss - that pic ain't a production image. That's pretty lame to pawn it off as that.
-
Ya think?
-
Where does Harry pull these lame expressions from anyway? Next time, don't even bother posting crap like this. Because it IS just that.
-
Dude. Srsly. Fuck that shit. What are you, 12?
-
Kinda fits with the whole comic themed post.
-
Yeah, that first piece is totally a Secret Invasion piece, as a matter of fact, I believe it is from the cover of issue #6. I'm in the process of taking Marvel to task. Most of the "product" is crap. And I do not say this lightly, because Marvel basically shaped my childhood just as much as Spielberg and Lucas did. It is very important to me, and they are rushing things just a bit. I don't need to see this stuff that badly if it is all going to be sloppy horseshit. I'd rather not see it at all. Warners and DC are much more careful with their properties. It may have taken forever to make a Green Lantern movie, but I bet it will be worth the wait. The only thing Marvel has going right now that has any promise is Captain America, and I say that only because of Joe Johnston. Marvel is treating their characters in movies exactly the same way they treated them in the books during the 90's. Badly.
-
And Thor is bearded. Only look that sticks with the source material is Favreau's Iron Man.

Wow, now Marvel is sending comic sans as "birthday cards"?
by HollywoodHellraiser
Either Harry knew and still trying to make Marvel look good after they assfuck his bud, JonFaverua or the he just don't know shit about comics?
-
So you're saying the Green Lantern trailer looked better than the one for Thor? Just asking.
-
Well, off and on. I think Simonson was the first to draw him that way back in the mid-80s. And he looks way cooler with it, so there.
-
Harry, I'm dying to know your thoughts on Dawn Treader! Thanks in advance...
-
sounds like we are cut from the same cloth. 70's Marvel was like religion for me coming up. So the ret-cons (starting w/ Danny Ketch and then the clone saga) always read like BS to me.
-
Reminiscent of the wonderful Saul Bass. Great Stuff.
-
Seriously. I'm trying and utterly failing to come with how fucking rad that is.
-
I'd like to see that one with the "616" Cap. Y'know, the Cap with the wings on his head. ;-)
-
Looks just like a vintage WWII vintage photograph my Grandfather might have had.

Actually, that THOR poster is so fucking Saul Bass...

It has nothing to do with the feel of the film. They just took the same style they would use for a detective film, a western, or a 70's exploitation film and applied it to a popcorn superhero film. The work is great, its just the subject is not the right one. Why didn't they make that for True Grit?
-
Might be wrong, but it actually reminds me of Orson Welles' ShaeMacbeth, or some 1960s or 70s Shakespeare film.
-
That "Reply to Talkback" button should be flush right... and maybe 75% of it's current size. Way too big, Harry.
-
each post to view them, and it's another unnecessary annoyance even having to choose the "+ Expand..." button on the top. Where is the commonsense usability in these 'improvements'? Not happy with the decisions made here.
-
It might make sense to indent the 'expanded' text below the individual posts. The severe purple-blue color and the white make readability a real chore.
-
Maybe someone needs to look into the very basics of UI usability. Any of the people working here familiar with the work of Richard Saul Wurman? His mission in life is to present information in a graphically sensible way so it illuminates rather than obfuscates. We're just getting obfuscatory design mistakes in the new AICN.

Is right! This new site sucks ass. Horrible, horrible design! And what is UP with the giGANTIC "Reply to talkback" button?
