Elston Gunn's Thanksgiving Edition of THE WEEKLY RECAP
Hey folks, Harry here with Elston's wonderful casserole of cinematic goings-ons... The news about DAREDEVIL is interesting, especially if Carlo is going to head it up, because that means that it is almost the exact same project as when Chris Columbus was in charge. Carlei did that draft as well, and it was really quite remarkable I felt and dealt with KINGPIN and ELEKTRA. We'll have our eye on that one!

Not too much in the way of movie news this week. If anything happens
tomorrow or Friday, it'll go in next's week recap...but Hollywood seems to
shut down on Thanksgiving and the Friday--rightly so. Maybe you can use the
TALK BACK to talk about what you're thankful for this year in flicks and for
the projects ahead. I'm thankful for movies like ELECTION, AMERICAN BEAUTY,
IRON GIANT and THREE KINGS that were real treats (I'm forgetting some.) I'm
also thankful for movies I'd been anticipating that weren't disappointments
like SOUTH PARK, EYES WIDE SHUT, DOGMA, SLEEPY HOLLOW and PHANTOM MENACE
(again, I'm forgetting a few and, yes, I said PHANTOM MENACE.) Good year
for flicks so far, I think. December shouldn't be too shabby either. And
next year should be lots of fun.
Happy Thanksgiving. Eat and sleep lots.

I agree as well, even though I live in South Africa and I have not seen SP: The Movie yet or Three Kings or.........
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving all Americans. -
Up North we've already hade Thanksgiving...it was good. Jet li working with Disney?! Personally the casting for Charlie's Angels seems to predictable...Drew Barrymore is so boring!
-
Already had Thanksgiving up here...it wasn't too bad...um...I guess adding Darth to your name doesn't necessarally make you evil!
-
Fight Club and the Phantom Menace. I'm not thankful for South Park:the movie and having to work today.
-
Glad I'm not the only Canadian who visits. Re. Daredevil -- I wondered why DC & Marvel suddenly came up with a Batman Daredevil crossover comic book. I guess they're priming the pump. I'm thankful for Election (and for Alexander Payne coming to speak at the VIFF Trade Forum -- he's a funny guy), Being JM, Gweniviere, American Beauty, etc. I am most thankful for Get Real -- a new British gay coming-of-age flick which played at the VIFF. They'll probably rename it because of the American TV show, but it was my favourite film of the year -- funny, moving and never ever saccharin. Watch out for it!
-
oops. Don't have much to say anyways..... I only wanted to say that i heard that the reason why Dougray scott got kicked outa x-men was that he came back late from doing mission impossible 2, so thats why they replaced him with Hugh Jackman.

This year has just been so good....so freakin' good, in every which way...Let's start with Lynch...I'm thankful for Lynch finally getting some respect again with the beautiful "Straight Story"...I'm thankful for Disney giving M. Night Shalyman the chance to make the heartfelt, and emotional Sixth Sense the way he wanted...I'm thankful for the flurry of great animated films that have come out that actually show the art in the art form, Princess Mononoke, Iron Giant, Toy Story 2, and yes South Park...I'm thankful for the belief that is given in directors like Alexander Payne and Sam Mendes...which transpires into wonderful wonderful films like "Election" and "American Beauty"....I'm thankful for Hollywood starting to open their stubborn eyes and greenlighting and releasing different types of films....it takes many things to make the world go round...I think they are finally realizing that...well for a little while anyway....I am thankful for the giddy feeling I had anticipating Phantom Menace, and the on going debate within myself on whether or not it belongs in my heart next to my cherished childhood memories of the other three...I am thankful for the pure love for this art form, that can persevere anything even the suits that tell you no, but you keep believing, and then you have a piece of gold called "The Downward Spiral".......I'm thankful that I love films, always have, always will...I'm thankful for all my family and friends....everyone here at AICN...and Harry for continuing to support this site, even though he could've, as everyone says he has, "sold out", long ago by shutting the site down and spending all the money he has gotten...but because he truly loves films, he keeps this site going.......and lastly I'm thankful for that feeling you get when the theatre lights darken, and the screen lights up...and you know you will be taken to another place, good or bad.....and for that feeling...I will always be thankful, and I will always cherish it....

I'm thankful for my beautiful, healthy wife, and my beautiful, healthy daughter. I'm thankful for The Iron Giant (which would have arrived in the mail by now if the UPS didn't suck). I'm thankful for Fight Club. I'm thankful for Phantom Menace - waiting in line the week before, which was pure joy, and the actual night, which was a sheer slice of geek love straight to heaven. I had a ball. Sure, the movie has its flaws, but it earns a place in my heart just the same. I'm thankful for Kevin Spacey's kickass performance in a kickass movie (American Beauty). I'm thankful that this year may well have been the best year for animation ever - with Toy Story 2, Princess Mononoke, South Park, and The Iron Giant. I'm thankful for Spike Jonze's brilliant and twisted Being John Malkovich, and David O. Russell's brilliant Three Kings. I'm thankful for Ain't It Cool News, and even TalkBack. I'm thankful to Harry for being a sheer movie nerd, who I'd definitely like to pal around with - I like the way you think. That's about it.
-
Aaaahh... you guys are making me misty-eyed. :-)
I'm thankful for everything ggood in my life and for all the bad things that I have learned from. And my great family and girlfriend and my journalism class 'cause it's the best class I have. -
Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I just cooked all that stuff for the first time in my life and I didn't screw anything up. Actually, it was the best Thanksgiving meal I've ever had. It's all about brining the bird, using a meat thermometer, and cooking it breastdown until the last hour or so.
-
Thanks my favorite Canadian....oh and your list didn't bore me...see ya......(oh yeah I hate those people who whine about the camera being jerky in BWP too...duhh...you think they were camping in the woods with stedicams?!)
-
Daredevil has alot going for him. He's one of the few characters that has a very interesting origin & motifs, like Spidey, The Hulk, X-Men, & the Batman. The Marvel characters are great material for movies because they engage in alot of action, and their origin stories are great. Really, I don't see why they don't translate the first few issues of the books, and the best of the graphic novels. The material is already out there,
even storyboarded if you think about it! -
Pleeassseee!!! The Phantom Menace was the most boring piece of shit there was this year. It was just bad!! Bad! Bad! Bad! No story, no characters, ridiculous dialogue, everything was just fucking awful!!! Except maybe for the fx, but who gives a fuck! Hopefully Lucas hires some real writer to pen the next installment!!
-
Seriously, what good is a talk back without an intelligent, calm Phantom Menace debate.
****
m thankful that Harry Knowles is a bigger geek than me, and hence this site exists. Happy Thanksgiving a few hours late everyone. -
I'm thankful that I'm British and have to wait six months to get movies you guys talk about for ages and then by the time i@ve seen it you lot don't care... (excludes TPM).
No, but I'm thankful for the year of hype around TPM, the 2nd time I saw it, Fight Club, seeing some good movies (Eyes Wide Shut, Rushmore, The Third Man) in the cinema rather than on video.
I'm thankful I took a year out before Uni and therefore have free access to the Net at work and can therefore come here.whooohooooooooo.
Also thankful that Buffy has returned to BBC2 (ahhhhhhhhhhh....Buffy) and Futurama arrived to Sky 1 (even if it wasn't as good as the Simpsons).
Also thanks to Peter JAckson for...oh no, I can't remember why... -
Big respect and thanks to Kubrick for everything he put his mind to, Fincher for Fight Club (who says Americans don't understand sarcasm and irony), Sam Mendes for American Beauty (another great Brit director in the house), Aronovsky for Pi, Guy Ritchie for Lock, Stock, Justin Kerrigan for Human Traffic (catch it soon folks) and Wachowski brothers for Matrix. It's been a good year at the movies.
-
And of course many thanks to Pauly Shore for killing himself! Oh...damned that didn't happen (yet)
-
Hey...doesn't that Bicentenial Man preview just make you want to fucking puke up your thanksgiving meal, fed ex it to Columbus...and show him how his feel good fucking propoganda makes us feel...........hey after he's banned from ever directing a film again, can we at least keep Adventures In Babysiting, and the first Home Alone...?

I heard a rumor that John Holmes will be playing Daredevil with
by jake the snake
Ron Jeremy couldn't be worse than the director of Fluke. Does anyone even remember this movie? Do you know what it's about? It's about this asshole who dies in some car wreck and gets reincarnated into a dog. Did the suits see thi movie and just decide "hey, we gotta hire this guy to bring Daredevil to life?" You gotta be fuckin kidding me.
-
but D'Onfrio would be cool as Thor...did u ever get to see Freeway 2?? Man, D'Onfrion is a freak in that film...if you've ever wanted to see him play a cross dressing priest who digs little children, well here is your film......I can just see poor Macauly at the stake...you light the fire...and his little hands smack up againt his cheeks and he screams....wouldn't that be a sight.

1. That I didn't throw up in the theatre in Canada when I watched The Blair Witch Project. (Combination of icky, icky margerine on the popcorn, bloody tooth in the movie and jerky camera movements got me close.) 2. The ending to the Sixth Sense. 3. That I got to see both TWINE and Sleepy Hollow this week. 4. That I got to go see those two movies and discuss them with my dad, who is also a big movie fan. 5. That I know I will get to see Toy Story 2 with one of my friends without having to drag her along because she loves Disney. 6. That I bought The Full Monty on video and it's still as funny as the first time I saw it. 7. That I get to watch and write about a movie for a class...and it's considered work! 8. That I'm taking a film history class next semester and get to watch and write about movies three days a week!!! 9. AICN and Talk Backs, period.
-
