The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day feels the need. The need for speed!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today's Behind the Scenes pic!
I'm still getting used to this new posting format, so if this looks weird it's totally not my fault and stuff. Today's pic was just too crazy awesome not to post. As you can see this is from the set of Top Gun and features Mr. Tom Cruise and Mr. Don Simpson saluting you, the viewer. I'm quite in love with this shot, showing a very humorous side of one of the biggest movie stars in the world and one of the best action producers of the '80s and '90s.
Thanks to Mike G. for sending it over! Enjoy!

Tomorrow's pic is kinda creepy, kind of sexy and wholly cool.

but a cool pic nonetheless!
-
This talkback is just gonna be full of haters and bashers. why bother AICN? All the movies and pics that are out there, and you put up one that you know is gonna incite hatred towards him. The man has never hurt anyone, in fact has even helped a few people. He goes a little crazy over the fact that he found love (something a lot of you should try once you leave the basement). Michael Vick? a criminal, felony record, tortured and killed animals..plays football again and is immediately forgiven, but Cruise.. the populace can't cut Him a break?
-
...then it means that all those sad wankers who come on here to type 'first' will now have no reason for doing so.<p>I take it all back - this new look rocks!
-
...scrolling past all of those FUCKING TITLES for a FUCKING MONTH.
-
just a suggestion.
-
Sorry Quint, because your section was the only thing that kept me interested in this site (that looks absolutely horrible now btw). But I have spent some time reading older reviews by Harry and, I know this is old news: Harry doesn't know shit about movies! Sure, he has seen a lot (too many?) and surely his passion and encyclopedic knowledge always comes over genuine. But his mind is too narrow to comprehend ANYTHING beyond his grasp. If it isn't like Harry expected, it sucks. If it somehow tickles one childhood memory, it rules. What makes for reviews with pages and pages full of said childhood memories with (almost) no analytical, psychological or dramaturgical insight whatsoever. And of course, the studio that sends the coolest merchandise is the best, right? I know, nobody will care, but this is my last post and visit to this site. Because it sucks. So, bye. Oh, and since I am in the mood of burning bridges: Fuck you! Fuck you very much!
-
BTSPOTD...sorry Quint.

It thinks the layout is played-out.
-
It was definitely way outdated and in need of a redesign, but seriously, did someone try to actually answer the question of 'how could it get any worse'? The TB's are a pain in the ass having to click to unlock each individual comment, Harry's DVD section that is the only other reason behind your posts Quint that guarantees my coming here are now hidden at the bottom of the front page, and the overall look of the site itself didn't change and that's one of the areas that has been screaming out for an update. Please, please fire whomever you paid (or didn't pay) to do the site redesign and convince Harry to spend the money for a prefessional to come in and give it a real update! <p>Really man this new redesign is a major reason to stop coming here. It's horrible.
-
reminds me of a time when Tom Cruise was still cool and far, far away from the nutjob he's become. <p>"Moooom, Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!"
-
The only site featuring design by time travelling web designers from 1997.
-
The FIRST posters will still be here, only at the bottom. Plus, with the first post in descending order not being the first one posted, it simply gives more incentive to people to post "FIRST". They seemingly need to let everyone know that fact and will need to make more effort in this redesigned, or simply flawed, new format to make us all aware of their being first, even when many aren't. <p>Whenever I have been the first post, it's obvious I was first as my post is the first one, right there at the top. I never felt the need to declare my being first since any moron can see that I was indeed first. Now, first is last, which, once you know that, is just as obvious. However, since the latest post appears at the top, every frustrated firstie will be posting "first"; and they kind of will be, at least for a short while. With their post being at the top, even temporarily, it will fulfill their firsting fantasy.
-
one of the bugs or one of the redesigns? If it's a bug, hope it's fixed soon; if it's supposed to be like this, WTF? Who reads bottom to top? Who wants to scroll through a post, reading it top to bottom, only to have to scroll UP to read the next post? As for the ability to Expand or Collapse the posts, why? I like that there is an Expand All button because it would drive me bonkers to have to open each one individually. But I don't get the point. What is the purpose, or benefit, of being able to expand or collapse individual posts?
-
Maybe I'm late to the party (wasn't around yesterday), but what's the deal with the delete button? What, when some nerd makes an ass of himself and gets schooled by everyone he can now delete said post and claim "I never said that". What kind of pussified, actions without responsibility, everyone gets a second chance to make a first impression, revisionist world do we live in?

WHAT. THE. FUCK? How about a "Read all" option????

you'll change it back to what it was!!!! There are NO benefits to the change that's underway. Maybe there will be but you know how impatient everyone here can be. For now I'm hitting up SuperheroHype until I see a point in returning here.
-
...or how Tom Cruise feels about his women when they get too old?
-
needs to be captioned "MORE COCAINE!". The man made that drug a lifestyle. I don't think any person in the U.S. aside from George Jung personifies 80s cocaine excess than Simpson.
-
At least.
-
Aicn froze twice when I tried clicking on the article "The AICN Situation" which apparently explains why everything is fucked up on the site. So the the article explaining why everything doesnt work doesnt even work! I am starting to the think the apeal of this website is because it is like watching a trainwreck in motion. You never know what unpredictable crap will go on. There are safe and stiff and predicable sites like hitfix with boring talkbacks, and then there are sites like this with it's chaotic appeal... Kind of like an early 90's Guns & Roses concert where you never knew what you were going to get. BTW great pic Quint, back when movies, were movies. If Top Gun were made today, all the F-14's or rather they would be f-22's would be all crap cgi. No real piloting needed.
-
What did they do for an encore? Moon everyone?

click revenue gold.

Shittiest photo yet. Still--given the epic site redesign clusterfuck--it's strangely fitting...
-
Don to Tom: "Funny, mine smells like your ass..."
-
Anyone else having problems seeing pics since the update? Firefox shows text only, and EEEEKxplorer won't even load th damn website. Weirdness.
-
I don't get the overwhelming dislike for Cruise these days. It can't just be the Xenu thing, or Travolta, Big Willy and a bunch of others would get the same vitriolic hatred. It's as if everyone suddenly fell in mindless lockstep with the mainstream media's "outrage" that Tommy Boy dared to jump disrespectfully up and down on her royal highness Oprah's couch, so he clearly must be a lunatic asshole. Much like Gibson, I don't give a flying fuck what Cruise does or says in his personal life, as long as he keeps giving us quality movies to enjoy......oh, wait, NOW I get it where all the hate comes from.
-
talkback should go in logical order, not reverse. Should be closer to a forum thread than a twitter feed, since multiple people will respond to each other.
-
It's mainly backlash, though the guy is (imo) void of real talent as an actor (and ruined serious dramatic films like RAIN MAN--again imo). I hate his aura of phoniness--onscreen and off. <P> Only movie I really admired his acting in was MAGNOLIA--and he was essentially playing a satirical version of himself. <P> Mel Gibson, OTOH, is a major talent and a terrific actor. And, even though he's personally less likable than Dick Cheney in a wheelchair, I still would enjoy seeing Gibson onscreen in the future. Cruise? Not so much.
-
The new format is shocking...
-
Then he got older.
-
It's nice having the previous BTS pic listed but...I don't know...more than one column might make the page a little easier to navigate. And that was my obligatory AICN bitch of the day.
-
I don't know why it's not enabled by default. What's killing me is all the empty space. Maybe it's just my font on Safari, but it everything takes at least twice the space now. <BR><BR> Always loved Top Gun. Even have the obligatory picture of myself and friends at the "bar" in San Diego ( Kansas City BBQ that is )
-
Should have shown John the love!! Could have easily slipped in a Hard Days Night, Help or How I Won The War pic! Almost as bad as no Obit for Ed McMahon! Just sayin!

... I'll bet he pissed in a hookers mouth while Cruise watched directly after this picture was taken.

Takes too long to scroll down and read about everything else that's wrong with this site in the comments.
-
Horrible movie.
-
which one?
-
... one of thge worst movie ever made in the 80s. No, i rephrase that: one of the worst movie ever made in the whole history of american cinema. The posh looking production values don't disguyise what has to be one ofthe most moronic retard dumbed down "zombies made this" movie i ever had the displeasure to suffer through. This movie is also one, if not, the purest example of the "high concept" style of filmmaking. An abomination. I say this movie is the very sourse of all the bad blockbusters that ever come out of Holylwood since then. Van Helsing sucks? Blame Top Gun. Terminator 4 sucks? Blame Top Gun. You get the drill. This Top Gun piece of shit of a movie abomination is what convinced Holylwood, once and for all, that makig movies as if the audiences are a bnch of slackjawed retatrds is the way to go. Thanks a fucking lot, Don Simpson, i hope you burn in fucking hell! You dying in the bathroom while taking a shit was a fitting ending for your miserable life. Yeah, i read the biography. Fuck, how i despise that guy.
-
True story. He was found dead in his bathroom. He has a massive heart attack while taking a shit. Found with him was a glass of wine (who drinks wine while taking a shit??) and a book, a biography of Oliver Stone. I don't know to whom this sceneario is more humiliating, if for Simpson or for Oliver Stone.
-
Tom Cruise never hurted anyone? Obviously you never saw DAYS OF THUNDER and FAR AND AWAY. People have been put to death for lesser crimes.
-
Don Simpson made good movies? DAYS OF THUNDER and ARMAGEDDON (to name a few) should now be mistaken for good movies now? This is news!! If anything, it's a hard time to find a good movie produced under Simpson's aegis. The exact opposite is true. Whenever i think of bad 80s movies, the name of Don Simpson and his partner in crime Jerry Bruckheimer imediatly comes to mind.
-
Seriously I loved this fliq before...I loved the fact that Iceman was the "badguy" but he was pretty much callin' it like it was....and maveriq was a diq but basiqally the goodguy. 24-25 years later, I still thinq fat Val can kick botox Tom's a$$.
-
that's some craaaaaazy $%^%
-
... TOP GUN was the movie i most hated and despised. I still feel a tremendous dislike for this horrible retarded piece of shit of a "movie".
-
And Mortal Kombat 2
-
I personally blame Xmen 3 for the state of modern big budget cinema production.
-
No they aren't because they didn't influenced the move industry to a way that it's repercutions are still felt to this day. TOP GUN is not only bad, it's pernicious.
-
i know people who would go back furthur & swear that Star Wars kicked it all off in that sense, and the horrible truth is thats all to blame for the repercussions. And im sure theres many between that & top gun & after that other folk would be ready to pick at for the same effect... so i blame Xmen3 just cos i can't stand that god-damned movie so much. But really the blame goes back way before Star Wars, Top Gun just got on the wheel track while it was coming up again so to speak. Also Goose & Maverick singing great balls of fires & googes death are forever indelibly burned into my brain along with happy memories, so how could you say such a thing? etc. Also Christ man thats harsh its not like Don Simpson was Hitler or anything, not even remotely close. Michael Bays probably closer, simply because he orders Stoner Woman to get on planes & go for a ride without question & boots them & does his best to destroy the career of the fifteen yr old girel he first handpicked to do a wet t-shirt dance... But fuck man....one day i will spot a post where you actually like something or express your approval of it

And both Xmen3 and Mortal Kombat 2 are easily worse than Top Gun
by Smack_Teddy
just because they are
-
I don't blame Star Wars for the dumbification of 80's and today's Holywood. Star Wars was made with honest intentions, of delivering a damn good old fashioned piece of entertaiment for the masses. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Sure, some dumb ass executives and hacks took the wrong lessons from SW and run with it. And while TOP GUN didn't started the whole "high concept" thing, it's the epythome of that. It's high concept at it's purest from. It's the movie tha tproved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the retard notion of high concept can work and make for popular movies. And it was the move that fucked up holywood. And no, X-Men 3 and mortal Kombat 2, detestable movies that they are, they ar enot worst then TOP GUN. TOP SHIT is far worst in every level. It is one of the worst movie ever made that was not made by Michael Bay. XMen3 and MK2 are mere amateurs compared to the shittiness of TOP GUN. And i fucking detested XMEN3. And it's not hard for you to see a pos tof mine where i approve and praise the hell out of movies or Tv shows. Check out any post of mine about THE DARK KNIGHT, BATMAN BEGINS, INCEPTION, BLADE RUNNER, 2001, MOON, DISTRICT 9, THE WALKING DEAD, CARNIVALE or ROME, to name a few.
-
If you wrote a short essay or examination of Top Guns shittness eclipsing Xmen3's, or just the level of awfulness you are talking about in its own right, you would be welcome. I get the impression theres more to it though, and Top Gun broke your heart, like Xmen3 did mine...otherwise i can't help but feel we would both save all our hate and "worst movie of all time" sentiments for Twilight, or something....but im sorry i missed your Walking Dead & Inception posts recently. <p> Xmen3 is worse than Top Gun because first of all it just is that bad, its a god-awful shambles of the themes & potential of Xmen in general; it emasculated Wolverine worse than Origions & managed to make Kesley Grammer as Beast simply a fucking 3rd rate Kryton from Red Dwarf, and it completely spunked its wad on the death of Xavier, Summers, The Pheonix storyline, and seeing through a great final chapter in its own right in the most wasteful & pointless & cynically churned out but we really care about the material! way. At least Top Gun does not pretend to be anything more than it is, as dumb as it is.
-
TOP GUN didn't broke my heart, it broke my intestines, and i had a terrible case of the shits after i saw it. Very much like what also happened when i saw ARMAGEDDON and ABRAMS TREK.
-
I'm more vulnerable or reactive to 'Gone with the Wind' on that level of affectivness
