FX Tears Away TERRIERS!! ABC Can’t Handle THE WHOLE TRUTH!!
I am – Hercules!!
Two Wednesday series bit the dust on Monday, following poor performances the prior week.
ABC yanked “The Whole Truth,” starring Maura Tierney and Rob Morrow, from its schedule after the legal series hit a new personal low.
FX decided not to renew the P.I. dramedy “Terriers” after it ended its season well below its very low peak. Series writers Shawn Ryan and Tim Minear, both vets of Joss Whedon’s “Angel,” move on to the new Fox crime drama “The Chicago Code,” which launches Feb. 7.
How they fared against the other Wednesday shows last week:

...not that it matters, it's all upside-down and dodge anyway. This probably disappear into the ether along with the rest of it. Meh....
-
Easily the best new series imho, a shame it could not reach an audience. Still, the first season is a perfect whole.
-
At least they tied up the first thirteen episodes well. Now for Donal Logue's next project.
-
I had no idea what Terriers was about until the week the show aired. Instead of an inbetween series, it would have played nicely back-to-back with Justified, but FX would have to cut back on it airings of Fantastic Four 2.
-
I think if Terriers and the Boxing show had switched start dates, it would have done better.
-
It was also the best thing Tim Minear had done since Firefly.

Sorry Shawn . . . Kurt Sutter was the real talent behind The Shield
by Nico Toscani
It's pretty obvious when SOA is kick-ass brilliant and your shows without him are weak as shit.
-
Damn shame about Terriers, though as others have said the name didn't do it any favours in terms of drawing an audience. Hopefully they'll release a kick ass DVD down the road.
-
is this post actually going to be LAST!? sorry, sorry - just hoping AICN gets off the ropes. also, sucks about Terriers. looked fun.
-
have they changed the definition of kick ass and brilliant to dull and stupid?

It seems to be Shawn Ryan was the brains behind The Shield

Man I loved The Shield and Terriers. I'll tell you one show I can't stand is Sons of Anarchy. Jax just plodding along a whole season looking for that stupid baby trying to make up his mind if he even wants to keep him. FX sucks.
-
Its a fantastic metaphor for their position; annoying little dogs that are tough as nails, scrappy, just hanging in there, and when they get something in their teeth they don't let go. But that doesn't come across easily enough to work as the name of the show on first glance; the way things generally get named, most people probably thought it was about dogs.
-
i hope somebody else picks it up but i doubt that will happen. it had a lot of promise and was basically Sherlock Holmes and Watson as beach bums. Donal Logue is always good in whatever. the guy could be the next jeff bridges with the right role.
-
But AMC is the new king. So, what were the "big things" happening with this site? The one I see now is little different, except for being a half-finished version of what was here before.

Title was good, if not great ... marketing is another story
by brechtsky
very few promos (that i saw), and poorly made, uninformative ones that did service to no one as far as grabbing new viewers.
-
Great show...lame decision.
-
those shouldnt have been canned also
-
This show was awesome. Episode 12 was some of the best TV I've seen. Kill SOA and keep Terriers. SOA's producers admittedly threw this season away. Terriers had some serious heart.
Also as mentioned Thief was also very good.
Any early word on this Chicago thing mentioned?
-
Not Bloodhounds. Not Pitbulls. Never the biggest dog in the room. Sometimes the smartest dog in the room. Smart, quick, can bite the shit out of you. I was already fantasizing about Terriers somehow picking up one of Rockford's unfinished cases and carrying it further to closing. These guys could sometimes be as smart as Rockford and sometimes fuck up a a lot more. I'm going to miss this show
-
I thought Terriers was a great show. Too many shows are about physically perfect people who never get anything wrong. A show about a pair of shabby losers was quite refreshing. It didn't hurt that it was well-written, likeable and funny too.

That's how the new format works. Confusing
-
terriers was just a fantastic show. Best of the season. So of course it's canned. Donal Logue was amazing and should get some award nominations. Loved how the theme was all about keeping Ocean Beach imperfect and scruffy, like the characters. At least the last episode wrapped it up in a way that feels complete. They made an excellent 13 episode miniseries.

... that will find its audience in the coming years. Depressing that QUALITY tv of this level is ignored by the mass public in favor of the newest reality show or CSI (insert city of preference here). Outstanding show with sharp writing and casting; it will be missed by yours truly. (sigh)
-
I just tracked this show down on the basis of this thread. You might find it hard to argue against the media bias towards runny shit for brained programming like CSI: Apula-Kuga-Chia... I certainly do after watching the first two episodes of Terriers which had a nice lo-fi not realistic but not plastic feel to it. Already I find myself invested in the principle characters and all for what looks like the budget of a single CGI ballistic reconstruction in CSI-Clone 48077048481. This is why I stopped watching TV in the first place, "Hey I really like this sho...oh it's been cancelled".
-
What a fucking shame, I'll miss it :(
-
.. you know it's bound to fail. Glad Sons of anarchy is still in the running. yes, it is a kick ass show.
-
well, to be honest I liked the first two seasons of Damages. The series hit a new low with the Bernie Madoff-esque plot during the 3rd season. Hopefully FX pulled the plug on the series so that it can die an honorable death.
-
It didn't just lean on weekly cliffhangers to keep you tuning in, the episodes were self contained while still compelling and smartly/organically building arcs over the course of the season in regards to story and characters. Its a shame a site like this didn't do more to pimp a unique, quality show like this, and surprising that Herc ignored this show given Tim Minear's involvement.
-
The ratings are a little on the weak side, but the show gets better week after week and the cast is great. It's the perfect companion show for "Sunny" (plus it's been funnier this year than "Sunny" has.) I have a bad feeling that they may can it and put that new Elijah Wood show with the dog in its place. As for "Terriers"... I really liked the couple of episodes I saw, but I just didn't stick with it. Maybe if it were paired with a more successful show like SOA it would have had a shot.
