Details Emerge Regarding
Bruce Campbell's BURN NOTICE
Sam Axe TV-Movie Prequel!!

I am – Hercules!! A new USA TV-movie set in late 2005 will examine the last mission “Burn Notice” character Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) undertook as a Navy SEAL. From Deadline Hollywood:
It begins after a faction of Colombian rebels makes trouble for the locally stationed military platoon, with Lieutenant Commander Axe (APA-repped Campbell) being sent down to investigate. As the mission unfolds, Sam begins to uncover the dark secrets of the area, learning the truth about sacrifice, deception, and ultimately what’s worth fighting for.
The project will be directed by “Burn Notice” star Jeffrey Donovan from a screenplay by “Burn Notice”/“The Good Guys” creator Matt Nix. There are no plans to create a Campbell-centric spin-off series, but that could change if the movie draws a big enough audience. Find Deadline’s exclusive on the matter here.

Burn Notice is a fun show...

    by Linguo_IS_Dead

But lets not get carried away in thinking that there's life beyond the cut-n-paste generic action it provides. The Sam character fits perfect in clashing with the main character's extreme seriousness...by himself however...it might be aq little too much.

    An impotent plea

    by liesandpicturesofalsolies

Listen, Burn Notice is an okay show but fuck this movie. I love Bruce Campbell and I love that he's found financial security with this role of Sam Axe. That said, this is such a callous cash-in of a failing series. It makes sense in the bubble of Los Angeles (I assume they shoot in LA and pretend its Miami, school me if I'm wrong) but really, Bruce Campbell is so much better than Sam Axe. I'll watch it and it will be better than bullshit like NCIS, of course, but I wish I lived in the alternate universe where Bruce Campbell wasn't playing second fiddle to a bland lead. No disrespect to JeffyD, I think he's done great with a terrible character on an okay show.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 8:26 a.m. CST

    Love it

    by bah

I got into Burn Notice after talking with some friends about how everything is serialized and deadly serious, and there are no fun action/adventure series like the ones that dominated the 80s. Yeah, there is some serialization, but mostly the episodes can be viewed on their own. For a mindless diversion, I really missed it during this last hiatus.

    I Forgot To Mention...

    by MakNeil

I forgot to mention that you actually have a character with the last name of Axe' who happens to be (or was) a Navy Seal on one hand, and with the other they expect to be taken seriously? I don't think so. I all for a bit of in you face characterization every once in awhile, but that's a bit much.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 10:15 a.m. CST

    greyspecter

    by adml_shake

If he's going to be playing an active navy seal he needs to be in better shape. He is a bit on the heavy side to be playing that part. I really hope they get him into a gym before filming starts, otherwise it's not going to be very believable.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 10:15 a.m. CST

Sam is a great character on Burn Notice. But a prequel?

    by Snake Foreskin

It doesn't make a lot of sense. What makes Sam such a great character is, in large part, his mojito-lovin' womanizing behavior and the fact that he had been an FBI informant against Michael and is now his trusted friend. Sam is like a sleazy James Bond, but that probably wouldn't translate well to the prequel TV movie about his Navy Seal days. But I would love to be proven wrong! Go Sam Axe! We love ya!

Burn Notice and Psych have that 90s feel to them

    by terry1978

Remember all those fun ass syndicated shows from that time period and the early 2000s you used to watch on the weekend all the time? These two have always had that feel to me.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 11:45 a.m. CST

My completely uninformed assumption about the prequel...

    by Somerichs

I've seen like 2 episodes of this show, so maybe I'm not the one to be commenting, but I would think the "prequel Sam" would not be the mojito-lovin' womanizer he's portrayed to be in present time. I'm guessing he'll be more serious, hardcore kinda guy, and that whatever happens with his character in the prequel will explain how he came to be the wise-cracking, less serious guy everyone who watched this show apparently knows and loves...

Talkbackers who complain that AICN hasn't covered something they've already read about on another site, or Talkbackers who Mock AICN for belatedly covering something they've already read about on another site.

In a world full of movies you've never watched, books you've never read, music you've never listened to and *cough WOMEN cough* you've never met, will your life really not be complete without an opportunity to argue with other Geeks about Frank Darabont canning the writing staff for a show that won't have its second season premiere for another ten months?

    by Judge Briggs

You're a jackass. By requesting to talk about the Walking Dead news and complaining about the 1995 forums talkback system - you automatically assume we're some sort of fucking nerd with no life. You're the douchebag. The fact of the matter is that your assessment is WAY off- I am exactly the opposite to what you described- but oh well, not like we'll ever meet anyway. So to answer your question, you're the douchbag because you assumed so much and WAY OFF. It's cool though.

You're right. I shouldn't make assumptions about you.

But wouldn't you agree that if Herc finally does post a Walking Dead Talkback about the writer firings, at least a dozen douchebags would mock him for being late to respond to something they read on some other site this morning?

It happens every frigging time.

And 2/3 of them would also make a crack about AICN's format being stuck in the 90's.

If you're not one of those people, you sure sound like one of those people.

So glad they're getting to finally make this. Bruce Campbell was a huge reason why I kept watching this show. Him and all the crazy practical spy shit I can do with everyday items.

Nah, I don't knock Herc about what he covers- I was hoping to hear what he had to say about the firings since The Walking Dead has a huge following on this site and he is an insider of the t.v. biz. I will admit, I do think that the talk back system is old and needs to be upgraded.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 4:04 p.m. CST

It's the narration that makes Burn Notice cool.

    by David Cloverfield

Even if half of the spy shit Michael says is nonsense (i don't know) it makes a fairly vanilla series really interesting. I hope Sam narrates his movie.

  • Dec. 1, 2010, 4:56 p.m. CST

Sam Axe rules, I hope this will be as fun as BC on the show

    by JT Kirk

Bruce Campbell is such a talent on Burn Notice, he's able to be BC while still morphing his characterizations into unique individuals. I don't think there's a better sidekick character on TV right now. Hopefully, this movie will not sacrifice anything of what makes the character great.
