J.J. Abrams Casts Lead In Fox’s (Sci-Fi?) Pilot ALCATRAZ!!

I am – Hercules!! 27-year-old Sarah Jones (Polly Zobelle on “Sons of Anarchy” and Brynn on “Big Love”) will follow in the footsteps of Keri Russell, Jennifer Garner, Evangeline Lilly and Anna Torv as the lead in Bad Robot’s latest (sci-fi?) drama pilot “Alcatraz.” She’ll play police officer Rebecca Madsen. She joins Jorge Garcia, the first actor cast on the Bad Robot island mystery “Lost,” and the first actor cast on the Bad Robot island mystery “Alcatraz.” He’ll play Alcatraz expert Dr. Diego Soto. The series is about the FBI’s efforts to track down a group of guards and inmates who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago, then mysteriously reappeared in the present day. The busy J.J. Abrams (“Undercovers,” “Super 8,” “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” “Star Trek: The Angriest Vulcan”) serves as executive producer on “Alcatraz.” Longtime “Lost” writer-producer Elizabeth Sarnoff co-created the project and will serve as its showrunner should it go to series. Al Capone and Bumpy Johnson were two of the more famous gangsters to serve time at Alcatraz. The island ended its career as a working prison in 1963 (which was actually 47 years ago) and today is a tourist destination operated by the National Parks Service. The island has played a memorable role in numerous movies, among them “The Birdman of Alcatraz,” “The Enforcer,” “Escape From Alcatraz,” “The Rock,” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Abrams already has one series at Fox in "Fringe," which was recently consigned to the network's Friday Death Slot.
