Cool News
We’re all part monsters in our subconscious, so we have laws and The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
I originally had another picture, from the set of a John Carpenter film, for today, but given the sad passing of Leslie Nielsen I figured a switch to a Forbidden Planet image would be appropriate.
This image is quite fun, featuring the impossibly adorable Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen goofing off on the set of Forbidden Planet.
Hope you guys enjoy the pic!

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.
I think I’ll post a cult movie pic tomorrow for the hell of it.

Nielson's ID will live on forever!
-
R.I.P., Leslie. :(
-
You should know better than to expect professionalism from this site. R.I.P Funny man...
-
but i remember that i was terrified a lot with that movie, especially with the big robot.i will check it again as a tribute to Mr Nielsen's today passing :(.
-
she was very hawt.
-
Not his best work, of course, but I guess my favorite film that he is in. Can't get enough of this movie. I hope they don't let Cameron near it.
-
Oh oh oh-oooooooooooh
-
Hamana hamana hamana.
-
He's on the right...I just go by his nose.
-
RIP Leslie.
-
damn Ann Francis was hot in her prime
-
TERRIFIED me when I was a child. Man, that force field scene. Fuck that thing man. Fuck it.
-
Also saw it on TCM recently. The enormity of the underground facilities on the planet was mind-boggling.
It was also enjoyable seeing one of Mr Nielsen's serious roles.
RIP, Mr Nielsen. -
Thing is, before his new career life in those comedies that most of us know him for, he used to be know as an actor that played serious characters. In fact, it was that he was known for those serious roles that they casted him in AIRPLANE, where they played it for laughs, him being all stoic and serious while the goofiest, most insane stuff happened all around him.

One can tell how influencial it must had been on Star Trek:TOS. The movie movie looks almost liek a TOS episode. Of course, the movie came way before, so it's actually correct to say that TOs was an atempt to make Forbidden Planet on a weekly TV show. And with hardly a budget. At the time FORBIDDEN PLANET must had looked like nothing else. a rare thing, a really lush production of a SF movie, a rare thing then. And the score is still incredibly avant-guarde, despiste all this years. I don't see a studio today releasing a movie which would had a score that sounded like that.

Best BTS pic EVER!

I thought this Kevin McCarthy all over again.
-
This movie was the template for so much to come. I remember reading "Sphere" when Crichton dumped that on an unsuspecting audience and thinking "Wow this guy must be running low on ideas." He confirmed that with AirFrame and Timeline. Forbidden Planet set the tone. A masterpiece for others to try and emulate. Nielsen was a gem. From all the interviews and gossip noise he was a real good guy too. RIP sir....You will be missed. Just don't mention "Dracula Dead and Loving It"
-
We've just lost Irvin Kershner as well, folks-- I assume AICN is working up something for him too.
-
Was the Id monster modelled after the Rudolph/Gossamer monster in the Bugs Bunny cartoons? Obviously, the Id monster didn't need a manicure. RIP Mr Neilsen.
-
I'm gonna miss this guy. The day has started off just terrible and now Kersh has gone too. A toast to you both, fine gentlemen the pair of ya!
-
Sad, Sad Day. : (
-
A time when men were men and women were women.
-
...at Bad Rock. Wonderful film and she's also quite precious in it...
-
Sorry - have no idea how that happened.
-
Irvin Kirshner RIP (thanks for the Neilsen pic, too! Sad, sad day for film fans)
-
like a bunch in the face. Anyhoo, nice pic and tribute to Leslie.
Just a suggestion: if you do one for Kirsh, try not to use a pic from Robocop 2! -
although I guess it could be that too.
-
This has been a real shitter of a day for movie fans.
-
First one I've seen without Robbie the Robot in it.
As much as I loved him in Airplane! and as Frank Drebin, the first memory of Neilsen to myself and an entire generation was as Colonel Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, on Disney's Wonderful World of Color. He was just as iconic to us as Fess Parker's Davy Crockett. He even had his own popular theme... "Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat; Nobody knows where the Swamp Fox is at..."
He had two memorable careers. Not a bad run in anybody's book!
