The TRONitizing Wizard has a seat to take at BUTT-NUMB-A-THON 12, here are the bests...
Hey folks, Harry here and get ready to have some fun here. I'm picking my top 5 TRONitizers & a couple of honorable mentions, with my final pick being the winner.
The Honorable Mentions:
Just received a late submission that I enjoyed so much. Here's Bradley Alphabet of Vancouver Canada having TRONitized John Patrick Shanley's JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO... I don't think Meg Ryan has ever been more dreamy than in this clip! Daft Punk really enhances this scene!
Thomas Stadlauer of Salzburg, Austria for TRONitizing Buster Keaton on an early Lightcycle, from the genre bending brilliance of SHERLOCK JR, recently released on BluRay from KINO!!! A must own!
Anderson Slade of Parts Unknown decided to TRONitize Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE - This looks real good:
Rob Smith of Texas did a really excellent and fun TRONitizing of Stanley Kubrick's DR STRANGELOVE! Enjoy:
Dr. TronLove from Rob Smith on Vimeo.
#5 Andrew Wallace of parts unknown, TRONitized a very fun scene from the Coen Brothers' BIG LEBOWSKI. Watch it all, it's fun...
#4 Max Shwadchuck or Garibaldi Highlands BC, Canada... well, he decided to TRONitize Jean Claude Van Damme's Motorcycle in John Woo's HARD TARGET. This one just makes me laugh. So much fun!
#3 Nick Tierce of Murrieta, California sent in this awesome TRONitized trailer for MODERN TIMES: LEGACY... I really dig this a lot.
Nick Tierce's Tron-ified Modern Times from Nick Tierce on Vimeo.
#2 David Hood of Orlando, FL... He apologizes that this is just the Workprint. He TRONitized Buster Keaton's HARD LUCK from 1921 - and it is all kinds of awesome. In particular the interaction with Bit. I think this is so good, that I'm going to see if I can squeeze David in. This work deserves a reward. David, I'll be contacting you on Monday if I can find a seat for ya.
#1 Benni Diez of Cologne, Germany... for TRONitizing James Cameron's ALIENS - creating something incredibly awesome... You won a seat at BNAT12! See you in 2 weeks!
Frankly, this was the first one that got sent in, and it kind of blew my mind. I've watched it repeatedly, just cuz... It is kind of amazing to think that this was completed in 2.5 days. That's insane. Enjoy...
GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU 01000010 01001001 01010100 01000011 01001000 !!! from Benni Diez on Vimeo.

Is my favourite. The cursor interaction and title card are brilliant.
-
for #2. I thinks it's a tie. #1 is really cool, but #2 looks so legit.
-
Your #2 pick was ok, but everything else (especially the half-assed Lebowski) was crap.
-
max should have tronitized van damme's mullet
-
love it!
-
Great Work.
-
...but in this case...technological superiority won the day.
-
but the Clockwork Orange one was pretty cool too. I think the guy who did the Hard Target one put a lot of effort into the light cycle, but it's a shame he only did that. That was just crying for a recognizer car.
-
That Aliens one is so good it shouold win that guy a job at a SFX company. The rest are all pretty meh. I thought that "runner up" one was pretty crappy myself.
-
seriously... after a night out and a hangover, waking up to this is pretty much the craziest, awesomest thing you can imagine! need to process... tons of love and respect to all the competitors!
-
Anne Thompson saw Tron: Legacy and said it was appalling.
-
That ALIENS one is going to be more entertaining than the whole running time of TRON:legacy. My fave, though, was the HARD LUCK clip, since it reflected the B&W+hand-tinted-roto look of the original TRON and the inter-title with BIT was cute. Technically the ALIENS clip is superior and was a better marriage of free content-generation and promotion for BNAT. Interesting that anyone with a PC/Mac can slap a neon glow to anything's ass (although some do it better than others) and if, at all, TRON:legacy can hold people's attention with a plot and not take itself too seriously. TANGLED is Disney's big fall win, so I guess the success of the TRON sequel will ultimately pay off in merchandising to kids and collectors.
-
you read my Identity Disc, didn't you? ;-)

I'd like to meet Benni as much as go to BNAT.
by The Reluctant Austinite
Not only is he clearly very talented, but he seems like a really nice guy on top of that. I'm missing BNAT this year due to financial woes and personal problems, but I think getting the chance to meet people like Benni, who is apparently from Germany, is one of the greatest parts of BNAT. He's clearly one of us.
-
but to TRONitize something so simply and beautifully as the buster keaten clip should count above the visual work of the alien clip. both are deserving, but it's like giving an academy award to michael bay for transformers over the guys who did WALL-E

Here are some collected Twitter comments after screening
by Le Vicious Fishus
@PhillyD: <BR> Omfg Tron was great. Everything new was a great addition. Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges are fantastic. But Michael Sheen shines brightest. <BR><BR> @beaujgarrett (star of the film): <BR> Just saw tron. Holy shit. Get ready…holy shit in the best way possible. <BR><BR> @oliviawilde (star of the film): <BR> WOW. Tron is a wild ride. So beautiful!!! So proud of the whole team! Incredible stuff. Daft Punk score is SICK. <BR><BR> @Fowler_IGN <BR> Saw Tron: Legacy last night. Can’t say enough about it. I also can’t say a thing about it. Legally. <BR><BR> El Guapo: <BR> Sorry guys, I’m embargoed from saying how FUCKING AWESOME Tron: Legacy was, and I’m not one to break an embargo. <BR><BR> @MichaelSheen (star of the film): <BR> Just saw TRON:LEGACY all way through for first time. It’s what eyes and ears were made for. A new word has entered the lexicon – Jisney! <BR><BR> @bdkreviews: <BR> Wow…get ready to have your mind blown on December 17th…I can’t say much more but I am just in utter awe right now…#Tron <BR><BR> Can’t stop thinking about “Tron:Legacy”…wish I had my computer so I could write my review while it’s still fresh in my head. <BR><BR> @Johnnyhockin: <BR> Tron left me speechless. <BR><BR> @AndresDisneyXD (translated): <BR> Not to be missed TRON LEGACY was amazing effects, music, acting, is the best in 3-D movie I’ve seen. <BR><BR> @shaderguy: <BR> watched TRON:Legacy @ El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. turned out to be a very cool film! Can’t wait to watch it again with friends. <BR><BR> @ChrisLTH: <BR> The film was spectacular, in every sense of the word. #TronLegacy #Tron <BR><BR> @hollywoodlvwork: <BR> Just saw new sci-flick “TRON”. WOW! You thought Avatar was visually amazing. Wait til you see this movie! <BR><BR> SavageBrit at HE Forums: <BR><BR> Seeing is believing. The film is visually staggering and the director is truly gifted. However, we’re once again saddled with AVATAR dialogue and plot. Although I will readily admit that whenever Olivia Wilde was on screen, I truly wasn’t thinking about the script one bit. The film will be wildly successful, especially in IMAX 3-D. The first appearance of “old” Jeff Bridges brought the house down. The CGI to make him look younger works in context. You’ll be surprised how good it looks, especially considering how harsh a proper IMAX screen is like at The Bridge. <BR><BR> I think Daft Punk deserve a nomination for their score as well. <BR><BR> Devin Faraci: <BR><BR> The people who saw it were heavily embargoed, but they’re also mostly fanboys and, frankly, easy lays for this movie, so I expected to see lots of folks on Twitter just skirting the embargo. But there was silence. Utter silence. Never a good sign. <BR><BR> I did some asking around and while there are folks who are very positive on the film, most of what I heard back was ‘looks great, everything else is terrible.’ The script, I have heard, is especially atrocious. And this comes from some folks who I thought would for sure be huge fans of the film no matter what. <BR><BR> SOSHollywood (translated): <BR> It was magical. It was great, I confess. [I] was one of the first journalists in the world to know the Grid, and unafraid to be happy, say : Flynn Lives! In IMAX 3D! <BR><BR> Lights out. Message source programming arises. A note on the 3D nature of the film. Put your glasses. Begins projection. The opening vignette Disney appears, but there is something different. The castle belongs to another world. His features are structural. Their colors are ethereal. They belong to the Grid. Belong to TRON. It was the first “WOW!” From the audience. Happy breath and plunged into a new world. <BR><BR> TRON did some things that Hollywood will still take a while (one year, perhaps) to understand and then move on to inspire. <BR><BR> Daft Punk is one of the best things about the film! And this coming from a guy who knows they exist but never heard the guys.<BR><BR>Devin is the standalone negative voice, and he hasn't seen it yet. OTOH, he has a good point about the relative lack of twitter responses (from all but a few folks--some of whom have a direct investment in the film).

I'm more excited about "Tron:Legacy" than any other film that I'm aware of on the horizon. I only have one concern, but it's not really based on reality, but only based on what I HAVEN'T seen yet. I can't seem to find the film's third act or big climax anywhere. I can't see much of it in the trailers which seem to cover mostly the first two acts, except the scene of Sam flying some sort of Tron jet and attacking a big ship. I was in the bookstore the other day and found the children's picture novel of the film, and it still seemed to be lacking a third act. I didn't read it, mind you, just flipped through the pages to get a feel for the film's structure. Of course, this could be great. It could mean they're hiding the big climax set piece. That would be nice. I'm tired of trailers leaking the last scene, many times the last SHOT of the film. Everything else about "Tron:Legacy" looks amazing to me.
-
My thought was to tron-itize the wang reveal in The Crying Game. Sadly, it was the first thing I thought of.
-
It looked cool and all, but I was left lacking. The audience I was with wasn't acting too gung-ho about it either.
-
But I have no talent for this editing/FX process. But I pictured Major Kong riding the nuke over the TRON birds-eye of the landscape right into the heart of the MCP. YAAAAAAHHH-HOOOOOO!
-
...while Van Damme was Van Shit. Seriously - spend a bit more time, dude. The Buster Keaton on the light cycle was terrific as well.
-
looking forward to meeting you at BNAT! now we'll be 2 german speakers :) and thanks for the honorable mention, Harry :)
-
I only really had a day to work on Hard Luck, with technical problems. I really enjoyed all of them, though I lost it during the background bowling in Lebowski and when Chaplin does his discs throw. Congrats to Benni!
-
methamphetamines can really help you get shit done. Joking aside, congrats to the winner.
-
can really help you get shit done
-
Great work!
-
bummer. would have loved to meet you! i hope you get it all sorted out soon. can't wait to meet so many great people that share so much love for the art of cinema. and greetings to salzburg. looking forward to meet you too!
-
... didn't think I'd place at all! This is a great surprise. Love that Keaton interaction with the Bit. The Encom intertitle is priceless. (Wish I had thought that up!) Thanks for the kind words.
-
i love your entry, it's brilliant on so many levels. i kinda ripped chaplin off unknowingly with my other short ('pressure bolt', the one on the vimeo page) :)
-
How can an entry with JCVD on a lightcycle come in 4th place?!?! Robbed I tells ya...
-
I've learned to ignore Devin as much as I possibly can
-
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!1
-
Thanks for the laughs Sherley.
-
I comedy king from the old school is no more with us. I read several months ago Naked Gun 4 was developing quite well with a solid script that would make a fine return to the basics (including a hilarious gag spoofing C.S.I.)...so sad this is..
-
It kills me that we're able to make basically Tron (original) level special effects on our home computers and load them on Youtube in a week.
-
That scene in Amadeus where Mozart pwns Salieri by embellishing the latter's own piece. Alas, I only have photoshop and laziness overtook me. The winner is well deserved, though.
-
That's damned good.
-
This was the funnest contest, hoping for more like it in the future. Steelerman: You're right I missed the boat on glowing out JCVD's mullet! Benni: I wan't to learn to composite like you! Your's was next level!
-
and Hard Target, the rest clips are awesome with the Alien one deserving completely the winning.great job guys well done.!!
-
1 bullet could blow up a truck..hahaha!!!
-
Knowing how some execs are, they may feel that the gap in visuals between the two fliqs is too big, even if they are 28 years apart.

This has been a very depressing holiday weekend.
-
That says it all in a nutshell with that movie! Oh and "I AM YOUR FATHER!"
-
From what I've heard that's what he's back again for the new fliq, I know people have complainmed about Clu looking like crap, but he looks decent in my opinion....maybe Bruce Boxleitner as Tron will look better...
-
The Modern Times one is brilliant. Great concept!
-
did you even try?
-
Despite the VanDamme cheese factor, just the motion tracking and rotoscoping work alone should count. Top Notch and very hard work.

-
No comments yet about Meg Ryan's light hiney? That was nice...
-
Really? <p> <p> As for Tron... Went back and watched the original a while back. Technically and thematically ahead of its time, nothing like it before or since. However it is hamstrung by bad acting (yes, even from the God Among Men that is Bridges) and a ponderous pace. <p> <p> Hope this rocks the shit.
-
Superb work. Got my psyched for TRON *and* made me want to rewatch ALIENS again. Hope it's not going to lose because its win would be too "obvious". It's clearly the best, in terms of FX and music editing.
-
The Modern Times and Hard Luck ones actually were Tronitized, and that bit with Bit was awesome. The Aliens one was very technically proficient, but it didn't feel like something Tron, it just felt like lines everywhere. AICN, always picking style over substance.
-
Kidding, Harry. Just like to quote "Misery" every once in awhile.
-
Mr Beaks wrote one up. It's been on the site for a day now.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jryEDUqNJKA just love me some lines!
-
These guys are popping up like weeds. Thanks -O

Is the contact page the way to go in reporting these guys or is there a better way?
