Poster For APOLLO 18 Shows Off A Spooky Lunar Footprint!

According to the history books, NASA's lunar landing missions concluded with Apollo 17. The official story holds that additional trips to the moon were canceled due to massive budget cutbacks, with available funds being spent on the development of the Space Shuttle. But what if the Apollo program was discontinued because a clandestine lunar landing revealed evidence of extraterrestrial life? This is the premise of APOLLO 18, a "found footage" sci-fi/horror flick in the vein of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY produced by Timur Bekmambetov for The Weinstein Company. Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego is directing from a screenplay by Brian Miller, and the just-released poster above seems to indicate that the aliens are huge DONNIE DARKO fans. APOLLO 18 is evidently being rushed through production so it can be the DEEPSTAR SIX to AREA 51's LEVIATHAN. Lopez-Gallego, who directed the generally well-regarded thriller KING OF THE HILL, just landed the gig last week, which suggests that a good deal of preproduction was completed without him. Still, I don't envy anyone being forced to complete a feature film in three months. The good folks at Dread Central also discovered a viral clip, which I will embed without comment.

Update: Dread Central is now saying this video has not been confirmed as an official viral for APOLLO 18. I have now confirmed that this has been online for a while (turns out BadassDigest's Devin Faraci got to this a couple of weeks ago). But I'll keep it embedded 'cuz it makes me laugh.
