Not Surprisingly, It's Looking Like Brandon Routh Won't Be Zack Snyder's SUPERMAN...

Merrick here...
Deadline is saying that Team Nolan, Zack Snyder, Warner Bros, Etc. are now tossing a "wide net" to cast the title role in their new SUPERMAN movie. Seems the actor they cast as Clark Kent/Superman will be relatively unknown (or, at least, not particularly well known) and fall between the ages of 28-32. The studio is said to be "open to creating a star..." There has recently been a groundswell of support calling for Brandon Routh's return to the role, from legions of fans who feel that he brought an extremely capable Kent/Supes to SUPERMAN RETURNS, but was largely failed by the script and direction of that film. I do, by the way, count myself amidst the folks who would love to see him come back - I think Routh is a tremendously talented, very well-rounded performer who has yet to get the appreciation or attention he very, very much deserves. This said, and to play The Devil's Advocate here, I fully (and regrettably) understand why bringing Routh back for this new film might confound efforts to re-introduce/re-invent the property in the eyes of the public. If they're rebuilding SUPES from the ground up, having Routh in the mix...automatically evoking an interpretation that didn't work particualry well before (even if it wasn't his fault)... could be quite confusing. Who do you think would be a great Superman? What qualities should be sought that previous iterations of the character may've missed? Sound off in the Talkback below!
