NERD VIAGRA released visually onto the web! Warning This Will Create A Major Geek Boner!!!

Published at: Nov. 19, 2010, 6:34 a.m. CST by headgeek

Hey folks, Harry here with something that just has me exceedingly jonesed. You see... Tonight I had a date night with my wife and a dear friend of hers to go to this rather awesome HARRY POTTER Ball/Feast - dancing, old fashioned big band dancing with a showing of the latest HARRY POTTER film... and I do love that series. I really do. But then there's TRON. You see. I realize I'm a grown man, because I turned down a free trip to Los Angeles to see TRON - voluntarily, because I realized... dude, this HARRY POTTER thing. Major Points. BUT... Then I watch this holy shit awesome International Trailer that gives you a slightly bigger scope that this film is telling, and I have to admit. Major Geek Boner. Right now, I'm balancing the awesome I experienced tonight... followed by the wow of this latest trailer. Versus... Having gone with Yoko to TRON and maybe even Disneyland. But ya know what. I'm not done yet on TRON toying with me. I've been to the toy aisle and felt disappointed with the identity disc, and found I wanted a glow in the dark old school frisbee. But they didn't have one. I find myself wishing that MARVEL would take the promotion past the cover into a multi-month comic arc - Yeah, I'm a total TRON geek. I can't believe this thing exists. They screened it tonight. For real. Somebody convinced somebody to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to make TRON really fucking cool again, and they did it. Watch:

    by Celicynd

So coupled with the lines "Out there is a new world. Out there is our destiny!" (which I'm assuming is said by virtual-Flynn/Clu) and the blueprint schematics of the Encom East building that had circuit pathways built into it from the last leg of the FlynnLives ARG, I'm guessing that somehow the virtuals want to somehow escape into the real world. <p>Just a guess.

Why is virtually EVERY post by Harry sexual in nature?

    by AlienFanatic

Seriously. Harry's nearly what, 40, yet his verbiage is that of a 14 y/o virgin who found a Penthouse in his dad's nightstand. Quint should run this site. At least he can string a few coherent sentences together without words like "boner," "jizz," and "nutsack." Ugh.

From the headline, I thought this was a Natalie/Mila post

As a child of the 80's, I should

    by clupula

be excited about this, but all I think when I see this trailer is "Meh."<BR><BR>Hmmm...now that I think about it, I think I know what it is. Back when the first Tron came out and games were less than 64k each, you really had to use your imagination to play them. Tron worked because it felt like, "Hmmmm...this is what it would be like to be in a game," because, back then, graphics were so very limited and storylines were non-existent, so Tron was very good at filling in the blanks where they needed to be filled. <BR><BR> Now, I can actually see the tendons snapping in the neck of a character whose head I'm ripping off in God of War 3. I can see the slight but realistic jiggle of Ivy's ass when she walks in Soul Calibur. I can see snow accumulate on the clothes of Drake in Uncharted 2 as he walks through a blizzard. I can get into a shootout in a fairly realistic replica of Times Square in Grand Theft Auto 4. I can ride my horse for hours in the Old West in Red Dead Redemption. I can visit the world of Metal album covers in Brutal Legend. I can go into a home during an alien invasion and find the remains of a family that killed themselves rather than be mutated in their bedroom, still holding each other's hands, in Resistance 2. <BR><BR> Games don't require imagination anymore. A videogame can be anything that a book or movie can be now. For the world of Tron to still be stuck in that exact aesthetic from the original movie just feels quaint and silly now.

Much more so than GL now. I'll wait for that 2nd Official trailer before forming an opinion on GL properly but... This came out a week ago? Ruining Disneyland

    by OldDickLemon

Im less than 24 hours into a Disneyland trip and I'm already completely sick of this movie. Tron crap is everywhere (including 5 minutes of hype, to a crowd of families going "what is this crap", hamfistedly crowbarred into the World of Color show. Has everyone forgotten that the first movie was a steamingly pile of crap? Outside of some cool de-aging of Bridges, this film offers nothing but annoyance.

Got to say,. LOVE Jeff bridges and pretty much everything he does, but the CGI version of Jeff - I assume it's SUPPOSED to look like it came out of Lawnmower Man, right? It looks SO CG, really stoked for this film but hoping badly that this is a very early iteration of the effect, to save the best for the full on £D awesomeness of the big screen.

    Tron is generational

    by KubricksBellEnd

I believe that for those of us who have fond memories of the original - no matter how flawed it is. (I mean in those days Disney made a lot of flawed iconic masterpieces - The Black Hole anyone?) It comes from an age when the video arcade was a genuinely exciting place, home computing didn't really exist and virtual reality didn't even have a name. I like Tron and I like the imagery associated with Tron - it is cool. Light cycles are cool. Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner and David Warner are cool. 'Nuff said.

ANSWER: Why is EVERY post by Harry sexual in nature?

    by THAT_SAID_THE_CHOPPAH

Because the only way that Harry can express his sexuality is this way. Because he is morbidly obese it is physically impossible for him to have sexual intercourse. And his wife has to use a car mechanic's sliding board to give him fellatio.

    @MikeTheSpike

    by Chewbacca_Khan

I totally love the Old Tron. Jeff Bridges, David Warner, even Bruce fucking Boxleitner. I love how I remember being absorbed by the fantastic machines and gladiator-style combat of that world. I played ALL the video games until my eyes were bleeding and I flung my frisbee in the back yard and pretended it would de-res my little brother. And I would have anally fucked virtually any animal on Earth to own a light-cycle. <br><br> You see, to me, and I suspect to Harry, the whole idea of Tron connects to our youth not in the same way as Star Wars or its ilk. Those things were culturally enormous, on a whole other level. But for me, Tron (and WarGames, in its way) were harbingers. They were the movies that were about what computers were going to do, how a whole world was going to evolve around the culture of computers and then seep into the mainstream. Not incidentally, both featured video arcades prominently. Does anyone here even remember the feeling of stepping into a video arcade? The lights and sounds and the spilled sodas?<br><br> The movie is not great, but that's an overused and misunderstood standard. The movie is, however, a fantastic reminder of what it felt like to be young and witnessing the birth of a new era, the oncoming rush of the possible and the age of information.

    Chewbacca_Khan

    by DoctorWho?

Dude, you're making me feel old. <p> And yes, the rush of stepping into a video arcade has no real parallel today. It wasn't just the video games...it was vibe, a social thing. It was where my mom didn't want me to be. We could score weed. We sported Sony Walkman's too.<p> Today, the local arcade will have a small section where you might find Centipede, Tempest or Stargate machines. The rest of the place seems filled with shoot em up games...killing gang bangers or zombies and shit. Games like Dig Dug, Tron, Donkey Kong, Battlezone, Galaga etc just had more character. Movies and music at that time all reflected that new techno culture you mentioned.

MadEyeMongo, what do you mean by "gay"?

    by Bot-Bot

Do you mean it as an insult? Do you mean it as a hope that it will lean toward gay themes? Is it the production design? The visual effects? The implied story? What does the movie trailer do that makes you use the word gay to describe your perception of it? <p> Can we please just stop using that word as a gross generalization of something that is not liked? Saying something is "gay" describes absolutely nothing, and only implies an attitude or a prejudice.

  • Nov. 19, 2010, 5:20 p.m. CST

I have to say that when I saw the Recognizer...

    by Joaquin_Ondamoon

...in the new trailer, I got a bit goose pimply. Yes, it's overwhelmingly nostalgic, and 'Tron' will never be considered a masterpiece of cinema, but it gets much love because it gave us a glimpse of what was to come. It was the beginning of the PC age, Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet, and Matthew Broderick was inadvertantly starting WW III just because he wanted to 'play a game'. It was the beginning of CGI, and of an era, and I for one will be out buying the Blu-Ray release of the original as soon as it comes out. Both Chewie and the good Doctor hit the nail on the proverbial head. "Greetings, Programs!"

Please have good ideas, please have good ideas

    by JT Kirk

please have good ideas, please please PLEASE PLEASE HAVE SOME GOOD FUCKING IDEAS BEHIND THIS!!! Please? I see this and I want to believe this is a worthy successor, but it also looks like an expensive studio buttfucking of the original for the sake of selling some more toys (which, way to fucking go Disney, picking the WORST toy company on the market today to deliver on something as massive as this should have been. For fuck's sake, horrible sculpting, cheap articulation, lousy paint, copyright text on the SIDES of die casts?!?). The original works not only because it visually did something different, but because there were ideas behind it which told a simple yet effective story, made for an exciting adventure but also served as allegory to man's relationship with god, and even a metaphor about how technology is unwittingly giving man the power of a god, yet was never preachy about it. I don't get the sense from any of the materials shown so far that this new Tron flick has any ideas beyond simply taking a franchise the studio owns and refreshing it, but I want to believe it does and that this will work. I don't want to be Phantom Menaced again, I don't want to be New Coke Star Trekked again, I don't want to be burned for the sake of simply dumbing a franchise down while amping up the effects budget to get asses in seats and merchandising sales. <p>And fuck anybody in their eyes who argues "it's just a movie", that's garbage, that is a shit argument for rats pressing bars to get food pellets. "Popcorn" flicks used to include Goldfinger, Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Batman Begins, The Matrix, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Inception, Aliens, The Sting, Die Hard, Goodfellas, Rocky, Pirates of the Caribbean, ET, Spider-Man, Men in Black, Mission: Impossible, Back to the Future, Rambo: First Blood pt 2, Gremlins, Lethal Weapon, Coming to America, City Slickers, The Hunt for Red October, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, Dirty Harry, Maverick... you get the point yet? Movies today are dumb because THEY ARE SHITTY AND TRYING TO GET YOU TO BE STUPIDER SO YOU'LL PUT UP WITH WORSE AND WORSE GARBAGE, not because they are merely intended as popcorn flicks.

Just returned from Disneyland and the Tron celebration.

    by UltraTron

Ultra ElecTRONica review: was there when it just opened and have a 1st person flythrough of the entire park with minimal humans in view. I Captured everything from multiple angles and points throughout park. Entire park has been "digitized". Look down and hexagonal grids are projected at your feet. Look up and beams of overhead lights form a park spanning grid. The most advanced projection system ever used covers the entire park with tron world with recognizers flying everywhere and light cycles cruising all over. And basically the entire park is a surround theater culminating in Flynn's arcade. Giant recognizer does everything it does in movie and beams spotlight on you and talks to you if you stand near it. Tron art direction is everywhere. Club from new movie with tron cage dancer chicks spinning disks and definitely take ecstasy. Flynn's Arcade has giant projected recognizers that cruise by in front of the sign rumbling the fucking building. Again- you will want to be on ecstasy. Interior of flynn's better than comic-con with perfect recreation of main flynn's arcade floor. They cheaped on neon recognizer and it's just one big neon sign with no animation like the movie. Its very expensive to do an animated neon sign like that and Disney figures you're lucky to have ever seen any of this shit so enjoy your non-animated neon recognizer you fat,picky,ass-wod of a nerd who is never going to get laid. Neon scenes from classic games like defender, scramble, pacman, asteroids. Home of Tron neon sign over Tron machine. Only 1 Space Paranoids machine(maybe there's only 1 in original film-more were at con). Neon signs all "fritz" out while you're playing and the Home of Tron sign goes nuts while ad for movie blares and sends chills with that badass daft punk trailer cue. Understand- it doesn't matter if the movie sucks- I got to visit the world of tron already and it only exists because of this new movie- this is the greatest advertisement for anything that I've ever seen. You cannot top Disney turning their entire park into an ad for a movie. The robotron machine is deliberately missing legs so it rocks all over the place when you grab the twin sticks. Dooon't stop beliieeevin is blaring and the thing is rocking all over. Drunk chicks are flooding in and they are playing arcade games all around you. It is something out of a nerd wet dream. You can play wii light cycles out front which looks like a must own. The cage dancers are awesome and the musical number is absolutely fucking incredible. The most advanced coke machine on earth is out in front of flynn's. The entire park goes quiet and you see the main digitize sequence that converts the park. You will not see a digitize sequence in the film so this is it. You'll have to wait till I youtube it or get your ass to disney. You will need to play the new game to get all the story as well(do not leave the experience up to the movie by itself, as it will undoubtably fail you.I hope the game doesn't suck and I end up never buying it). Oh and I got free tickets and didn't even have to drive so this was a hassle free thing but for a true fan I'd still say go for it. I think that covers most of it. If you use this review- call me UltraTron.

think and will not have profound moments like when we hear Alan's human user voice beamed down like god from an IO tower. It will not have funny nerd programmer jokes like compound interest programs complaining about TiVo raids or anything cool like that. It's about taking ecstasy this time. But the fact that Alan still uses a pager instead of a cellphone just like he used an abacus instead of a calculator sends chills.

Fact is Disney screened the original cold to an

"modern" audience. The results of that screening were so bad that they buried the new Tron remastered edition and it won't come out till legacy is released on 3D blu. It was supposed to come out before the theatrical release as you remember. So basically Disney is trying their best to make this fan-boy cult favorite turd float any way they can with superb strategic marketing. Those who get their hands on good MDMA are sure to benefit most

Here is what one of those "critics" thought- he's

    by UltraTron

only 18 but when you consider I completely understood every concept in the original Tron as a child- this does not bode well for the state of human intelligence in 2010: When Tr2n was announced during it's first Comic Con debut in Hall H of the SDCC, I quickly went off the library and borrowed it the weekend after. During the eighteen years of life that I had at the time of the announcement, I remember hearing it's critical acclaim and was aware of it's cult following. But I always wondered why such a "great" film was really kept under wraps by Disney, I don't remember it be ran on television - and other than the 20th anniversary DVD and the video game that they released in the early 2000s, it just seemed like this film was swept under the carpet. For good reason? So after 18 years of life, I finally watched this film - and I gotta say, it was really dull and bland. And I know I'm not the only one who thought that, several of my friends recently watched it and were pretty unimpressed. Well for one thing, I grew up during the 90s and 2000s, so the special effects that I come to know of really dwarfed the original Tron. As for the story, I didn't really understand it at all, it seemed like you had to be a nerd to understand what was happening. Overall for me, I felt the movie was all over the place. I could understand it's historical background, being a leader in its special effects during the 80s, but overall the film just looked lame.  So I could see why that the company felt that the original Tron should not be seen or heard, as it could have the potentially to turn-off young people. I know, it's sad about forgetting history, but that's how the game is played.  Regarding Tron Legacy, that film looks pretty mainstream in appeal. People are going to get turned on because of Daft Punk, Olivia Wild, Jeff Bridges, and the amazing special effects. Now, I'm not sure if that's enough to compel people to watch this film, but I sure hope so! This could either be the next "Avatar" or the next "Watchmen", we'll know by Christmas... The film looks pretty radical though, I'll be there Midnight - December 17th!

Don't want to see any more footage. I wish I never watched one trailer for this except the one they screened at Inception. I'm stoked for this film. @Chewie-Khan I'm 100% with you. I grew up with that film, and grew up during that era. Hey, how come nobody is talking about Automan?? :) hehe Tron was a huge thing back then. @Ultratron That sounds insane. Youtube it! B

    I don't know...

    by catlettuce4

I like it. It looks like it will be cool. But I just would have preferred to see a sequel that didn't tone down all the amazing and, frankly, uniquely iconic visuals of the original film. And I'm sure the score is fine and fits this movie, but I'd have loved the original themes to be used as well. It's so cool that they made this, and I know it's been "updated", but it seems a good chunk of what I liked about TRON is missing from this movie. The defining stuff, really. I still think the story and characters in Legacy will be good, and I want to see it, it just is not hugely exciting.
