While “Survivor” and “Criminal Minds” remain mighty, a huge piece of CBS’ audience continues to evaporate when “The Defenders” comes on at 10 p.m. Maybe it’ll fare better next week now that “South Park” is on hiatus?

Does that mean Mark Valley will return to Fringe, maybe as an alternate version?
-
I know you get a lot of grief (but who doesn't around here), but I find it fascinating to see the public trends and look forward to this column. Good work and keep it up!
-
It knows exactly what it is. A light breezy action show. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. <br><br> The action scenes are well done (Micheal Bay could learn a lot about editing from watching this show). The banter between the characters is crisp and well delivered. And Jackie Earle Haley absolutely owns every scene he's in.
-
Come on Herc!
-
They completely threw out last season's mythology, and Bear McCreary's wonderful music. I will not be watching the new season of Human Target.
-
While I love Fringe, I can see how its more esoteric content might be off-putting to some viewers. But Human Target? It's nice looking, well-acted actioner with plenty of levity. Why can't this show find an audience?
-
I love Fringe as well, but I totally get why the audience is dwindling. Its story, while awesome, is becoming more and more dependent on knowing "what came before" unlike its original intent to have stand-alone episodes. I think the creators knew that the show's future was in doubt, so all the things they may have wanted to spread out over a number of seasons they are having to cram into what is probably the final season. And Human Target should have a huge audience. It is a ton of fun, and is perfect escapism. People, come on! Watch this show!!!
-
i think part of the problem with last night is noone expects a season premiere in mid-november. i bet if it had debuted with the rest of the shows it would have done better. last night was great, but i am wondering what happened to armande assante's character. was that him recast in the bank? i need to go back and see last year's finale...
-
My DVR was set to record it automatically. Otherwise, I would have totally missed it.
-
I know composer Bear McCreary left HUMAN TARGET for THE WALKING DEAD, but why did HUMAN TARGET let Tim Jones create this horrific piece of shit replacement theme? Couldn't they at least keep using McCreary's far superior theme?
-
It's such an awesome show, but fox either burries it on friday or wednesday up againt suvivior. give it the post house and old 24 slot and let it destroy the event<P>Last night episode was great and it appears as if they are shaking things up for this season with the addition of his "boss" as well as the new Team member sexy mdcboobs lady (I forgot her character's name, but Sexy McBoobs is good enough)
-
I understand they needed to replace Lie To Me since it replaced Lone Star, but Wednesday night is a terrible night for HT. Put it on after House (Lie To Me isn't that good), or mix it with Bones and put Fringe on after House again. Either way, it needs to be part of a nightly block and not the lone show on the Wed. night schedule
-
Why did they change up the score/storyline? Seems kind of off-putting to those that actually did care about the show.
-
I too am bewildered by the lack of interest in HT. It is light and full of action but I do think Fox has not promoted the new season enough. I was taken aback by the new music and found myself fast forwarding the DVR to get to the action. I will say I like the addition of the boss lady makes it more generic but I do like the addition of Sexy McBoobs. Also, right on to JEH owning every scene he is in......he does it every single time with very little effort. Hope the ratings get better so it can be around a bit longer.
-
Sorry for poor grammar but an edit feature would be the tits.
-
It's been retooled like tv shows used to be 10 years ago, new music (probably on the cheap to reduce costs since it no longer needs an orchestra), and the characters now have a 'benefactor'?
-
And not to mention that damn Glee?<p>To quote a song from David Bowie ; "This is not America".
-
"Let's use our 3 chests, full of all our food and supplies, and enclose the fire. Now that we've built a fireplace OUT OF WOOD let's cover it with more wood and the tarp from our shelter then leave it unattended and go off to a challenge"<p>[upon returning to camp]"How did that happen?"
-
"Let's put Human Taget up againts Survivor, the #1 reality show, as see how it does!" A quote from a super smart TV exec.
-
They only reason I knew it was back on was because it popped up on the latest uploads section of my TV torrent site. I haven't seen any ads for it anywhere, and completely forgot it was coming back this week. Fox only has themselves to blame.
-
...3) Reality Show (i.e.: Crap) 4) Show only elderly people watch 5) Dancing with Has-Beens and the Daughter of Christo-Nazis 6)Crap &) Reality Show 8) Reality Show 9) Reality Show 10) Crap.
-
This is a very entertaining show and Haley's "Guerero" is outstanding...DUDE!... I hope they keep it..
-
I dont know what they have added, but the attitude of the show is alot better than erlier shows..Tim Roth Makes it really fun.its a little crisper also.dont count that one out.but thats just me..Lie to me was once teamed with human target on only one night I believe..from what I heard earlier in sept..lie to me was gonna be blocked with human target on fridays..but that never happened..but thats me..I really enjoy Lie to me and human target..
-
laughed too hard a couple of times last night. the blue team vs white team t-shirt..
-
They were advertising the premiere during House and some other shows, weren't they?
-
otherwise, I liked HT last night. Support Human Target!
-
While I liked the show fine the way it was, and it didn't need a retooling, I do think it's at least a good sign that Fox is trying to make the show work. Though I fear it was just a dumb executive who decided, "Add some women characters. That's what it must need! And make it more like James Bond. Where are the sports cars and planes and stuff?"
-
It's just how it is, Americans are generally stupid as dirt. So good shows pop up here and there but don't last long. I just wish execs would ignore some of these made up numbers. Human Target and Fringe are too good to leave! If they do I will be watching a lot less television. I just hate the ratings system and how DVR(real way to judge ratings) is simply thrown out because advertisers know people skip the commercials.... Fuck the commercials looking at DVR numbers and DVD sales should prove to execs that good shows in the end make money. I bet in that respect shows like Human Target, Lie To Me, Fringe beat out all these other shit shows(i.e. shows on CBS). All I know is I'm buying all the seasons of Fringe on dvd no matter how many come out. But come on give us a fourth season and end it. Don't Firefly this Fox!
-
Key Demo is all over the map. Maybe it's because they're given such diverse choices - action, sitcom, dramas, cooking, reality, and even news-magazine are all showing up on the buffet table and getting nibbled by the key demo.
-
Marketing! That's the key! Let people know what it is and why they should watch it, that might help. So far, Fox hasn't really gotten a good idea of how to do that, so the show suffers weak ratings. The show is entertaining, if somewhat formulaic, but the ads consistently fail it.
-
That Human Target gets better ratings than Fringe.
-
shocker!!!
-
I've seen exactly two episodes of the show now: last year's premiere with the bullet train -- seemed okay, didn't hook me enough to tune back in; and last night's "re-boot," which I thought was great. Funny, some added sex appeal, a good mix of action with character interaction. Felt like a lighter version of Mission: Impossible. I'll definitely tune back in if they keep it around long enough...
-
Was obviously more interested in giving a job to his buddy from Chuck than in quality. The new theme music is the worst I've heard for any series in years. The retooled show itself is okay but veering on becoming a more action oriented version of Leverage.
-
What was it that viewers wanted . . . that hasn't been delivered? <p> I think it's been a very consistent show. It has a strong leading man, plots that aren't tissue-thin, good supporting characters and good guest stars, and action.
-
Please FX, I'll buy 10 copies of Season one if you just give it a second season.
-
...in regards to it's unnecessary, and awful theme change. <br><br> Also if Emmanuelle Vaugier doesn't return as Emma Barnes, I'm gonna seriously be pissed. Not Ruby getting recasted on Supernatural pissed, but pretty close. Someone needs to give that girl a regular gig already.
-
The premiere had a lot of the usual charm, but it threw away the season 1 cliffhanger in a couple of minutes. (What happened to "The Book," anyway? Did Guerrero end up with it?) What happened to Chance's mentor? What was the significance of The Book (does it relate to The Event? :) ).<p> The action sequences were light: none of the over-the-top martial arts and stunts from last year.<p> It seems kind of unlikely that Winston didn't recognize Ames initially.<p> Chance seems to now have some kind of danger sense. He looks around the party, spots... nothing, and realizes that a sniper is going to open fire.<p> Guerrero is always good, Winston was good (wonder if he shops at the Piehole, judging from those pink boxes), Chance was okay. Ilsa didn't do much for me.<p> Opening music, worse ever. We need a good dramatic action-TV show theme. Remember the days of MacGyver and A-Team? Last year's HT theme wasn't really it, but this year's is worse.<p> Overall, it seemed a step down from last year.

That didn't need changing.<p>JEH is great as Guerrero. I loved the scene where he's asking the new girl to choose her own torture (her fingernails being pulled out or to be shot in the kneecaps).<p>A shame that Mark Valley wasn't ten years younger because he'd make a great Captain America.
-
A. Lot. <p> Ty Burrell is a comedy machine. And Sophia Veregas is a fuckin PIMP with a BB gun! <p> Sorry, Glee. Gweneth doing cartwheels doesn't hold a candle to the whip smart writing on Mod Fam. But...then again, I'm 40. If I were 14...gay...or had a vagina...I might be more into Glee, too.
-
All the rage for a few seasons and then forgotten. At least I hope that's what happens.
-
Don't really get why it has not caught on with the viewing public. <p> I generally hate Fox, but they actually did advertise the show a lot, particularly during football broadcasts, so you cannot blame them for that. A mid-November premiere? Yeah, blame them for that.
-
...scheduling it against Survivor? Would you rather it still be in it's Friday night death slot?
-
This weeks show was so good. For a minute I thought there was a regular Sons Of A TB. Guess not. Not to sound like a whiny Rubicon person, but, why not?
-
Too bad it's probably getting canceled in a few weeks.....
-
Mark Valley is in the process of divorcing Anna Torv. Their whole marriage stunk of Green Card fraud. But when Fringe moved from USA to Canada, Aussie Torv didn't need the Greenie (since Australia and Canada fall under the Queen's rule)she ditch Christopher Chance as fast as she could. Plus why would Valley wanna return and hang out and watch his extra taking Pacey dick?
-
This show and Valley kicks mounds of ass on this show. Tell somebody to watch the damn show!! Season 2 premiere was awesome. Gotta love the bank scene :)

by The Gipper
HT was originally set for the Friday night death slot this year. I think we're better off with it on Wed. night than then.

...but it still snuck up on me this season, even with the decent advertising Fox had been doing. But when I checked the DVR this morning, there it was! Hopefully it will pick up enough to at least stick around this season. Doesn't seem like there's much hope for a third, though.
-
This is the first season of Survivor since the beginning that has bored me. I knew it was going to be difficult to follow last season, but I didn't think it would be THIS bad. I don't like some of the changes they've made this season, either. And it feels like they're editing out HUGE portions of what's happening sometimes. Anyway, pretty sure it will be back next season, so I hope that one is more enjoyable. <br><br>As far as this season goes, I want the old lady to win. Tough as nails that one.
-
Is it just me or is she like the least focused on contestant in the show's history? I can't believe the chick has made it this far. Just a few episodes back she said something, and I was like "wait....WHO THE FUCK IS THAT!?".
-
What a truly great show!!!!

"I could unbutton your shirt with this gun" And I want to see more of Sofia running in heels. They make her bounce a LOT.
-
last season and now they've swapped that great music for something truly repugnant, why? Is everyone at FOX tone death or something? And what the hell happened to the cliffhanger from last season, where's Armande Assante?
-
Pity no one watches, 'cause they're missing out on some good TV--the characters are multi-dimensional, the acting is good, and even the procedural elements aren't rote. And they're managed to establish a good, organic arc in just the first season.<p><p>And the way they wrote and shot the flashbacks last night was masterful. Minear did a great job.

ANd is remenicent of shows from the 70s

It's also "lose a game" and "the point is moot" for those of you in remedial English

Terriers is the best new show on TV! C'mon people...
by The Dude Abides
watch it! Walking Dead is great, too. Too bad I forgot HT was coming on last night, but now with all the criticism, I don't know that I want to watch it anymore - I loved the first season.
-
<br><br>I LOVE this show. I loved it last year. It's got action, humor, and the "hot-chick-of-the-week". Now this year, they seem to have added some permanent females (don't care about the benefactor, but the thief is HOT), so I just hope they don't ditch the hot chick of the week.<br><br>Haler's Guerrero has already practically become one of my favortie TV characters of all time. His best part this week was when he punched Ames in the face. I laughed for like five minutes.<br><br>My only complaint: add me to the list of people who hate the new opening music.
-
When will this archaic site get a fuckin' EDIT POST option already????!??
-
they composed 3 or 4 themes and threw them all in a blender. There's too much going on; it's simply way too busy.<p>It does seem like Survivor is editing out a lot. This week there was a huge fire in the camp destroying the chests, supplies, food, and half the tarp. We saw half the tribe's reaction to discovering it, but that's it. We never saw how the other half reacted to it, or the consequences of the event. Where was the blame, the finger pointing, the "lesson learned" testimonials of those who now understand why you don't build a fireplace out of wood? I was expecting Probst to bring it up but he didn't. It was such a monumentally stupid thing to do, the consequences of which affect the entire tribe, and yet it was quickly forgotten like it never even happened.<p>Is Undercovers now done, with this last episode getting preempted for Dateline, or is NBC airing it later?<p> DarkhawkPrime, nice theory except why would Torv need to marry an American to work on a TV show shot in the US? All she'd need is a work permit.

...and Conan sank to a new low of 1.75.
-
wednesday's episode was incredible. talkbackers got me watching the show, and im glad they did. to the uninitiated, WATCH TERRIERS.
-
But Zucker fucked over Levitan's last show there "Just Shoot Me" (punt it around the schedule monthly and forcing actors on him), so Levitan said he would never deal with them again. Now he has a huge hit at ABC. Jeff Zucker the gift that keeps on giving for NBC-Uni.

Wow, Human Target looks to be doing all it can to change itself into a Leverage clone. I agree completely that the new opening theme can't hold a candle to the barely memorable first season opening theme. Oh well, another show slips off my radar.
-
ep was pretty bad ass

Bear is touching himself while reading the negative reactions to the new Human Target music.
