The DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special To Air The Same Day On Both Sides Of The Atlantic??

I am – Hercules!! For some reason Americans are getting the Christmas special on Christmas this year!
BBC AMERICA TO PREMIERE DOCTOR WHO SPECIAL ON CHRISTMAS DAY Harry Potter’s Michael Gambon Guest Stars in the Holiday-Themed Adventure Following Matt Smith’s appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Tuesday November 16, BBC AMERICA announces that the new Doctor Who Christmas Special will premiere in the U.S. for the first time on Christmas Day. The festive Dickens-inspired adventure, A Christmas Carol, is penned by award-winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Coupling) and premieres Saturday, December 25, 9:00 pm ET. Newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are joined by Harry Potter’s Michael Gambon and Opera diva Katherine Jenkins, for what may be the Doctor’s most Christmassy adventure yet. Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, commented on the upcoming special: “Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbors loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically.” Perry Simon, General Manager, Channels, added: “Doctor Who has become a key part of the BBC AMERICA schedule, and having the opportunity to air A Christmas Carol on Christmas Day is like receiving our very own holiday gift. The Timelord may travel through time and space, but he’s certainly found a home at BBC AMERICA.” Doctor Who is currently filming in Utah for next season’s two-part premiere set in the U.S. during the late ‘60s. Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston and guest star Mark Sheppard are all in production stateside. The next season premieres spring 2011 on BBC AMERICA. In the run up to A Christmas Carol on Christmas Day, BBC AMERICA will be running a marathon of the series, beginning at midnight on December 24 and leading up to this year’s special. The marathon includes previous Christmas specials and a selection of favorite Doctor Who episodes from recent seasons. Christmas Day will also see the premiere the Doctor Who Prom, a live concert featuring stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as hosts. The Doctor Who Prom was filmed earlier this year at the world renowned Royal Albert Hall and features appearances from the Weeping Angels, Daleks and the TARDIS. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, who record the soundtrack for the series, present a selection of intergalactic music – including Murray Gold’s music from the TV show, plus a selection of classical favorites. Fans can catch up on the new Doctor’s first season with Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series Blu-ray and DVD, both are now available in stores. BBC AMERICA brings audiences a new generation of award-winning television featuring news with a uniquely global perspective, provocative dramas, razor-sharp comedies, life-changing makeovers and a whole new world of nonfiction. BBC AMERICA pushes the boundaries to deliver high quality, highly addictive and eminently watchable programming to viewers who demand more. BBC AMERICA is distributed by Discovery Networks. Why So Suprised?

    by ThomasFlynn

"For some reason..." The reason is obvious, isn't it? BBCAmerica played their cards right, and gave Doctor Who the exposure it so well deserved. The new series has succeeded in bringing back the old fans as well as grabbing new ones unfamiliar with the 'original source.' The ratings have been solid, and with references in mainstream entertainment mediums such as Entertainment Weekly, the show has succeeded in accomplishing what few would ever dream it would do: climbed out of obscurity. I think given the success, it's not only a brilliant move by the BBC America folks, it was a logical one. Now, if only they would play the next season here in the states the same day that it plays in the UK...

To be honest I don't realy give a shit anymore, the last season was utter crap, and like The_Cliffster, I got bored to tears half was through. <br><br>I kept watching though (because I was a fan, and am an obvious masochist), hopeing in vain it would improve, but it didn't. <br>,br> Also , everytime I hear Moffat make another pathetic attempt to sound "wacky" I have an unmitigated urge to stab him through both eyes , what a total wanker...<br> "Yeah! The shows craaaazy! People are eating custard on the internet!"<br> " I had Christmas in April!"....<br><br> Stephen Moffat , please just fuck off ...

    by JillianneSix

And, I'll watch it, but the show HAS to get better again. I'm okay with Eleven now, but it was a tough season to get through, especially with Amy whoring around the TARDIS. Rory was good, but I only liked the episodes that everyone else hated and vice versa. They ruined the Silurians, I can live with the new Daleks, but I despise River Fucking Song! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHO SHE IS. SHE'S A GOT DAYUM LIAR. That is all I need to know. If Moffatt-Ass can't run the show any better, I have a few ideas for who could(not that the Beeb cares). Gosh, I just want the show to be more awesome than what it is:( Sorry.

I'm noticing more and more how much the BBCA edits down the Who episodes to fit the commercial breaks for America. They edit out some good stuff too. For example, in the last episode, Big Bang 2, they cut a nice little scene where the doctor comments on Rory being the boy who waited 2000 years.

    Smith is fine, Moffat isn't

    by spud_mcspud_returns

Every time he writes an interview down he sounds like a guy who is so in love with himself, who is so impressed with his own intelligence, that he just comes across as the most smug twat in the world. Seriously:<P> "And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbors loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically."<P> If you don't think that is the sound of the world's smuggest man basking in the glow of his own magnificence, then you didn't read it, or you're a snivelling sycophant. It's no surprise that the lead character in SHERLOCK is so smug and inlove with his own intellect - as Smith's Doctor occasioanlly comes across as - because Moffat is basically writing himself into the leads.<P> That said, Matt Smith is the perfect Doctor - the best bits of Troughton and Baker combined - and so I hope next season improves. Smith's first wasn't THAT bad - Renault iDaleks and massive plotholes (retrofitting Spitfires in 25 mins, say) aside - but there was much room for improvement. River Song is getting tiresome and overexposed, and they need to tie up the Silence - today's audiences won't wait much more for the answrrs, they'll go find something else to watch. So - not quite the bomb everyone keeps saying it was, but not the slam-dunk we were hoping for, either. Here's hoping a huge slab of humble pie will get Moffat back in his box, and we get a Christmas special worthy of the title. Dickens is a very good place to start, so that's a plus...

    Benedict Cumberbatch

    by Hagakure

I watched Moffat's 'Sherlock' miniseries (which was incredible) and read in an article that his first choice for 'The Doctor' was actually Benedict Cumberbatch. (Matt Smith auditioned for the role of 'John Watson', which is how Moffat knew of him). Cumberbatch had to turn down the role of 'The Doctor' due to a conflict, and so Moffat offered the role to Matt Smith. After watching 'Sherlock', anyone can see, Cumberbatch is PERFECT for 'Doctor Who'. In fact, watching Smith in 'Doctor Who' now, it is hard not to see him as nothing more than a younger version of Cumberbatch. (If you watch 'A Study in Pink' and substitute 'Doctor' for 'Holmes', it becomes a perfect 'Who' episode.)

@Hagakure - Yeah, that article? Pack of shite.

    by V'Shael

If memory serves, the rumour (for that is all it ever was) about Benedict being offered the role of the Doctor, came from that well known purveyor of bullshit, "The Daily Mirror".<br /><br />It was picked up and repeated by various US websites, who don't know the Mirror's reputation for unadulterated bullshit, and purely-made-up-for-shits-and-giggles stories.<br /><br />The Mail, (who's reputation is *slightly* better than the Mirror) ran a version of the story on 27th July, (you can google it) and they still managed to get it wrong.<br /><br />The facts are, Benedict talked about auditioning for the role, with David Tennant. But ultimately, decided he didn't like the idea of being on lunchboxes and what not, and never even auditioned for the role.<br /><br />He was never offered it. He never turned it down. He never even auditioned.<br /><br />Matt Smith was the guy, from the moment he auditioned.

BBC America is only available with a cable package. Not only that, but in my area, it only comes with the higher tiered package, which means, in order for me to watch BBCA, I have to pay about 60-65 pounds PER MONTH. And BBC America doesn't have anywhere NEAR the full line-up of shows. <p>On top of that, despite the fact that we are paying for it, we still have to watch it with commercial breaks. Have you ever seen something that wasn't intended to have commercial breaks get all chopped up to squeeze them in? It's jarring and sometimes completely ruins entire scenes. <p> I am also the proud owner of the series 5 box set. I won't disclose how much THAT set me back. <p>So yes, we Americans most certainly DO pay for the privilege. If I had the ability to pay the license fee, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

IMO, the right men got the right roles. Matt Smith has been a ton of fun as the Doctor, and Cumberbatch has Sherlock Holmes down to a t. <p>Perhaps Cumberbatch would have made a better Doctor, but there's not much that I have seen to convince me of that. The role of Sherlock is too cold, and Cumberbatch plays it too well, for me to envision him in the Doctor's shoes.

I apologize for my fellow American (nice smackdown, by the way, even I was stung by that!), but c'mon, really? Like Cushing said, you can view it as someone in love with himself, or just someone who really loves his job and is incredibly happy to be doing it. It's a matter of opinion, and if you don't like Moffat to begin with, that's probably going to affect which direction you'll tilt. <p>That aside, I thought Sherlock Holmes' characterization was perfect. It just makes sense. Someone in his position is going to be smug... and he certainly was in the novels. But I disagree that Matt's portrayal of the Doctor can be characterized as the same. I mean, was he really any more full of himself than how #10 was written? Tennant's Doctor tried to change history just because he admired the woman who was going to die, and because he could. And that's not even touching his little breakdown with Wilf.

We just got the best season of Dr Who ever, with classic episodes like the weeping angels and an epic finale that actually tied everything together (instead of being made up at the last minute like RTD's seasons usually felt like) and people still aren't happy? "BBC America has been pretty good about not fucking with the episodes when they initially broadcast them"<p>They cut TWENTY damn minutes out of "Eleventh Hour." I don't remember whether it was the initial broadcast or not, but it was certainly my initial viewing. And there was no warning that it had been done.

  • Nov. 18, 2010, 12:09 p.m. CST

    by berserkrl

You didn't stop watching midway through last season, you stopped with the third episode, which means you missed all the best episodes. And it's only the Dalek leaders, not the rank and file, that have the new look.

  • I watched the initial broadcast and it was fine. Yes, the repeat viewings were cut (though sometimes they aren't on marathon screenings, depending on their schedule) so it's your own fault for waiting for the cut version. And as far as a warning goes, maybe BBC America figures you're smart enough to realize that if an extended-length episode is only schedule for an hour then it's probably cut. After all, all their programs have commercial breaks, so some grasp of basic logic should be a given here.

  • Nov. 18, 2010, 12:27 p.m. CST

To be fair, how many Americans would know that? All our TV shows have commercials so if we're unfamiliar with the fact that BBC's does not, why would we even think to do the math? Series 5 was supposed to bring in a lot of fresh blood, and I bet many people watched the cut version without even knowing it.

  • Nov. 18, 2010, 1:04 p.m. CST

Yeah let's start a "Favorite Doctor" thread here

    by Klytus_I.m_Bored

I know it's common but Tom Baker is my favorite. He was definitely the weirdest and most otherworldly. Smith seems able to channel Tom's weirdness sometimes, which is nice for an old-school Whovian like me. I think my second favorite is probably Hartnell. I love how cranky he was and how often he fucked up his lines. It charms me the way the styrofoam boulders in the original Star Trek charm me.

  • Nov. 18, 2010, 1:31 p.m. CST

Klytus, Tom Baker is indeed the best Doctor

I was testing lonniebeale. I was recently watching a Baker series and I just love the playfulness he brought to almost every line. He is always clowning around and it works for the character because he sees himself as above everyone and everything, which of course he is. I also like his, at times, severe arrogance and how he doesn't suffer fools lightly even though he himself enjoys playing the fool. Jelly Babies anyone? I love his relationship with K-9 tool. I was actually offended by Craig's dance with a Dalek.

    by Royston Lodge

Even on a throw-away late-night tv appearance, the Daleks should be treated with fear and respect!<p> I always hate seeing Daleks being played for laughs.<p> The "Daleks in WWII" episode is one of my all-time favourites.

So, they're shooting in Monument Valley, eh?

    by Royston Lodge

That's pretty exciting.<p> I wonder if it's going to be an "old west" story set in the past.<p> Or maybe it'll be a "lost in the desert" story set in the present.<p> Or maybe U.N.I.T. has a secret underground facility like the one in The Andromeda Strain.<p> Regardless, it'll be REALLY interesting to see Doctor Who shot outdoors in the American West, if only to compare how it affects the cinematography and the lighting.<p> The "qualities" of the light in an American desert is fundamentally different than at the higher latitudes and the damp environment of Great Britain.<p> It will be VERY interesting to see if the "flavour" of the image is noticeably different.<p> I've always been fascinated by the way television and movies in different countries have their own distinct "look", and I've long toyed with the idea of going back to school and doing a Masters thesis (or whatever) to systematically analyse why that is.<p> Is is due to the environmental differences in the "qualities" of the light? (latitude, humidity, pollution, cloud cover, etc)<p> Is it because of technical differences in the equipment? (England film is 25 fps, US film is 24 fps. England video is PAL/25 fps, the US is NTSC/30 fps. Panavision vs. Arriflex. Fuji vs. Kodak vs. AGFA. The way a country's supply voltage affects the "flicker" of lighting, England is 230 volts at 50 Hz, USA is 120 volts at 60 Hz.)<p> Is it because different countries' filmmaking cultures and film school training employ subtley different techniques? (At a trivial level, in Britain they have a Focus Puller while in the US that job is called First Assistant Cameraman. Are there other, more substantial differences that affect how shots are composed and lit?)<p> Is it just because higher budget productions simply tend to look better?<p> Or could it be a combination of all these factors?<p> These "shot-in-the-USA" episodes of Doctor Who might provide a nice little laboratory for considering the question, in much the same way as when the X-Files moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles. The "flavour" of the images definitely changed when X-Files moved.

    My Favourite Doctor Thread Entry

    by Royston Lodge

It's tough for me to say, definitively, which is my favourite. It really depends on the criteria you use.<p> For example, I'm not a big fan of Matt Smith, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the writing of the most recent season/series. I'm SUPER SUPER SUPER happy with the job Grand Moffat has done as the new showrunner.<p> By contrast, I liked David Tennant and I LOVED Christopher Ecclestone, but I really disliked most of Russell T. Davies' work.<p> My favourite classic series Doctor was Peter Davison, but maybe that's simply because he happened to be The Doctor at the same time I happened to be the right age to be part of the show's target audience.<p> I always found the Tom Baker era pretty boring, but those shows aired when I was much younger. My older sisters, on the other hand, loved Tom Baker and thought Peter Davison was "only okay".<p> It's one of the reasons I really enjoyed the Children In Need special where David Tennant met Peter Davison. The way Tennant put it, "Doctor, you were MY Doctor," really hit the nail on the head.<p> Whoever happened to be The Doctor when you first discovered the show is probably "your Doctor".<p> ...except for Colin Baker. He sucked. ;-)

    Best Doctor?

    by LordPorkington

Tom Baker, hands down. He was *my* Doctor when I was a bairn, but Peter Davison comes a close second, because I still remember being absolutely blown away when Baker regenerated into Davison. By the way, if you get the chance to read Baker's autobiography 'Who On Earth Is Tom Baker?' then do so, it's fucking ace. What a weird, weird bloke, but an amazing character!

Just so you know, the episode set in the States takes place in the late 60's. The sad thing is, they're still filming some scenes in Wales, which has been decked up to look like New York. I suppose it's cheaper than filming in Times Square.

BBC America Cut of the Eleventh Hour...

    by Disgruntled_Chinaman

They did chop a hell of a lot, for instance, when he meets Amelia, he asks for food and goes RIGHT for the fish and custard. <p> No apples, no beans, no bread and butter. They trimmed all the humour out of the episode to make it fit the time, rather than extend it to ninety minutes. And they have started to combine episodes, like making the Weeping Angels a one part episode in two hours, along with the Silurian Saga, and Pandorica/Big Bang. <p> Weird, eh?

  • Nov. 18, 2010, 3:12 p.m. CST

    Sounds like they get it

    by JT Kirk

BBC America finally understands that by holding back on the latest episodes, it only forces the audience to get it on the internet. Who the fuck wants to wait some untold number of months to see a Christmas episode?!? Nobody! Anybody who loves the show will just seek it out on the web because they can't wait. It's been the same for years on the opposite side, English audiences not being able to wait for, say, Battlestar Galactica. Only the US is a MUCH BIGGER MARKET. <p>As for the Craig Ferguson special, it was cute but I am impressed that he basically torpedoed the whole show because the producers fucked up the opening number. That takes balls. Also, Chris Hardwick is a funny guy and a huge fan, but he didn't bring his A-game once he went into fanboy mode with Matt Smith - who was impressively subdued and knew he wasn't a bigshot celeb this side of the pond.<p>I do have to agree with the TBer up there who blames Moffat and not Matt Smith for the state of this last season. The writing has been somewhat 1-note, inconsistently characterized, and largely stuck in the same ideas and locales over and over. Say what you will about Davies, but he knew how to do more with less, to use what limited locales they were given to tell broader stories across larger landscapes.

"maybe BBC America figures you're smart enough to realize that if an extended-length episode is only schedule for an hour then it's probably cut"<p>And how would I know that the original British version is an extended-length episode? Should Americans be constantly consulting British tv schedules for programming they can't watch? Why?

LordPorkington: That's a bummer about the New York scenes.

    by Royston Lodge

They could have shot those scenes somewhere like Pittsburg if they couldn't afford to shoot in New York City.<p> Hell, there are plenty of "New York City" backlots in Hollywood they could have rented for cheap.<p> Hmm, Monument Valley in the 1960s you say? I'm gonna put a little more money on my U.N.I.T. prediction then. Not too much money, but a little, cuz I'm not TOTALLY confident about my prediction.

Why all the America love in the next series of WHO?

    by spud_mcspud_returns

Isn't it obvious? My guess is that the US has to pay BBC America some fees for the rights to show British shows over there in the US. If the Beeb can charge a lot of money for WHO, then that money can go back into the Who budget, thereby making it more spectacular SFX-wise. (Sadly, it probably won't go far enough to solve the plotholing problems). So, I think the Beeb is tryin to squeeze some cash out of you deep-pocketed Yanks. Which is fair enough, if it improves WHO. Do I mind the sudden US-bias in WHO? Hell no - we've had years of great SF from you guys, so it's a pleasure to have something decent to swap you in exchange :D

Don't ask me why, but it really gets on my tits... <br><br> My ideal actor to play the doctor would be Bill Nighy , I just think he's perfect, and theres something that reminds me of him a little bit with Smith. I liked his ability to come across as an old soul in a young body (perfect for the Doctor) , but the whole of the last season just felt a bit dull generally so I guess I just didn't connect with it. <br> Lets hope next season will go up a gear....

A ritual that continued for a long while after! :) Mad as a box of Frogs, Dashing here and there, all teeth and curls, scarf, Tom Baker is all these things but he also brought that to Who! And i still love him for it today! :) (ps if anyone knows how to bring back a doctor and avoid the obvious ageing i would love to hear it, Davison had a great stab at pulling it off but they referenced it without any explanation if i remember?)<br><br> Lord Porkington, V'shael, sam jacksons wig, spud_mcspud_returns, Hope you guys are all ok! by V'Shael

Whoever you think is the "best" doctor, I don't care which one, if they had been given the scripts that Colin had to work with, you'd no doubt think they were shit.<br /><br />My first doctor was Jon Pertwee, and my earliest memory in my life is watching a scene from (what I later found out was) the Green Death. I grew up watching Tom Baker, and when he changed to Peter Davison, I was both horrified and fascinated.<br /><br />But I've never understood how someone can say "so-and-so was the worst doctor". Or even a back-handed compliment, like "he was my ninth favourite doctor".<br /><br />Colin Baker is a damn fine actor. His work on the Big Finish audio adventures should convince anyone, that with a decent script behind him, his take on the Doctor shines bright.<br /><br />My favourite doctor? Whoever the current one happens to be. Put me in Lethbridge-Stewarts camp. Wonderful chap; all of them.

That is reason enough to watch this season. I am stoked we finally get a good doctor in the US. Moffart did a good job minus Amy wishing everyone back for the season. Yet, his best work was Holmes this year even though he screwed up Moriarty pretty bad. I don't understand the hate for RTD considering he brought back from the dead when no one wanted to touch this thing.

Loved Life on Mars and plan on re-watching it here again very shortly. One episode of Who doesn't ruin that track record for me. <p>And V'Shael, saying that you like or don't like a particular incarnation of the Doctor does not necessarily reflect on the actor himself. There are a lot of people I've seen comment about how Tennant was their favorite Doctor, but that he's kind of a one-trick pony and plays the same thing in everything he's in. <p>Personally, he's my least favorite of new Who... but I'm sure he's an outstanding person and a fine actor ;) <p>(On a side note, I am seriously hanging around you people too much. Bing Hitler is the true Craig Ferguson not this money grabbing soulless sellout. Google Bing Hitler to see what I mean.<P>As for the greatest Dr? That to me is Tom Baker hands down. Then Pertwee, Troughton and Davidson. That bawbag Tennant isn't even in the Top 5. Matt Smith however is edging in there for me as a fan of Who since 1977. Anyone who mentions Dr Who seasons can't judge on who is the best Who in my opinion. It's got nearly 50 years of history not 5 or 6 "seasons".<P>The xmas Who preview on Children In Need showed nothing except that it looks like it's loosely based on A Christmas Carol. Disappointing.

  • Nov. 19, 2010, 11:53 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

And Vimto is a delicious soda made with blackcurrant, grape, and raspberry, if memory serves. I have recently been shown photographic evidence, however, that it comes in *other flavors*, of all the blasphemous things. It's pretty difficult to get a hold of in my area... far, far more so than spotted dick, unfortunately... and it's impossible to get the no-sugar-added type or the other flavors. I know of two stores that sell it, British Accents to the north, Winston's to the south, both of which are about an hour's drive from my house, and oftentimes their stock is past its expiration date. And this isn't even going into some of my other favorite treats (dammit, nearly did it again!): Yorkshire Gold tea, Wagon Wheels, Mikado, McVities' shortcake blackcurrant biscuits, and of course, Jammie Dodgers. Simon has made it a point to rub this in my face by taking picture after picture of the gigantic stacks of Vimto and Vimto-related products (along with other said goodies...) in the aisles of his local Asda (Wal-Mart). I, unfortunately, have a fairly up-to-date knowledge of the exchange rate, and so when a stray price tag makes its way into frame, my tears flow all the more freely. <p>So, dear Rich, my compadre of the clashing sense of humor, I mention all of this so that you'll believe me when I say: I know what spotted dick is :)

What happened was I was in Manchester once and somebody told me that there was a big wooden carving of a Vimto bottle and fruits. I had to see this with my own eyes to believe it.<br>And it was indeed true. Look......<br><br>

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:26 a.m. CST

    Somewhat more on-topic.........

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

The Xmas special preview looked ace. It's Dickens with spaceships and sharks(??)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:40 a.m. CST

    by frozen01

It's the only soda I drink that doesn't have alcohol or ice cream in it :D <p>That picture is awesome, just had to share that with my fellow Vimto worshipper ;) When we're out there next year we'll definitely have to check that out just for the fun of it :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:41 a.m. CST

oooooh, I hope it's some sort of shark-type thing

    by frozen01

    Love sharks :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:55 a.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

You mentioned drinking Vimto without alcohol. Now I feel obliged to acquaint you with the Cheeky Vimto. :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 7:01 a.m. CST

    Much appreciated

    by frozen01

But I'm afraid I was already acquainted, at least on paper (or rather, screen)! Unfortunately, I lack the ingredients. Again, I'm sure I'll meet it in the flesh next year. :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 7:08 a.m. CST

    You should try one

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

They do really taste like Vimto. Don't drink the blue WKD on its own though, because that's cack.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 7:09 a.m. CST

And it is a shark-type thing

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I remember one of the very first rumours I read about the Xmas special was that it'd have flying sharks in it. This was immediately mocked by everybody else. I mean, really, flying sharks?<br>But hey, those looked like sharks to me.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 10:12 a.m. CST

    by frozen01

Hey, it's something new (I think) so that's a bonus!

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 10:31 a.m. CST

    That's true Frozen

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Though not as much a bonus as seeing Amy back in the police uniform.<br>Or Rory as the centurion again, if that's your bag.

  • 1) I bow to your superior knowedge of all things UK. And, b) Did we only get a 1 minute preview of the Xmas Special? (So, instead of googling, I should frozen1ing? LOL)

  • Tony Curran (Vincent and the Doctor) was in the movie, "Bad Ass (2009)". Don't know what role he played. It's strange (To me, anyway.) how many movies get made that the public never hear about.

  • Is everyone gone already? Gee, this Talkback didn't last very long.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 11:18 a.m. CST

    Both are fine

    by frozen01

But Amy is hotter, for certain.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 11:24 a.m. CST

    by frozen01

    1) I am learning. Considering we have 1.5 ACTUAL Brits here... <p>b) Yeah, I think that's all we get, unfortunately. But Xmas is not that far off any more!

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 11:27 a.m. CST

    And no, not gone

    by frozen01

Just running errands this Saturday morning. <p>But look at the new-new TB. Dead already!

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 11:54 a.m. CST

    Eh? 1.5 Brits?

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Who's the half a Brit? LOL<br><br>And yeah, that minute of preview was all we get. They always leave us wanting more.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 12:04 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

I'm counting Simon/shibley as the half only because he's not on much anymore. <p>And I'm sure I'll get an earful when he gets off of work *LOL*

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 12:05 p.m. CST

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...................................

    by axcel1

Is it just me or wasn't last year's Children In Need Who preview for "The Next Doctor" longer?

  • I thought you talking height-wise. LOL

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 12:13 p.m. CST

LOL, no that would be 1.5 AMERICANS

    by frozen01

... and *I* would be the half! :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 12:24 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

"The Next Doctor" was two years ago. We did get a longer clip of that one on CIN.<br>I can't remember getting one at all last year for Tennants last shows.

  • You're right, The Handsome 12th Doctor, "The End Of Time Part 1" was last year, dummy me. And, Frozen Renee, I didn't know you were that short!! LOL

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 12:35 p.m. CST

    Back to this year's preview.......

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

And back to Amy and Rory in their respective uniforms. What do you think is going on there?<br>I've read suggestions that some timey-wimey things could be happening, and that this is the Amy and Rory from the past. The ones who went to a fancy dress party and had their photo taken, which was then seen in Amy's bedroom in "The Pandorica Opens".<br>OR........ it could be that they're attending another fancy dress party in this episode, and thought it'd be funny to go as police woman and centurion again.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 1:35 p.m. CST

    Considering the tag-line

    by frozen01

    I'm voting for timey-wimey.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 2:52 p.m. CST

    Hmmm yeah

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

The more I think about it the more I think it's going to be timey-wimey.<br><br>And the more I think about it the more my brain hurts.<br><br>I'm going to stop thinking about it.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 3:28 p.m. CST

    Whoa, there's another new Docback?

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Where DO we post now? LOL

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 3:58 p.m. CST

    I'm staying here

    by frozen01

    The company's better.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 4:50 p.m. CST

    Wait, there's another new Docback??????????

    by axcel1

In the words of Sarah Palin, "Don't retreat, just reload", truer words were never spoken!! LOL

  • I cast my vote for timey-wimey. I like it when my brain hurts, if it's Doctor Who, it's a good hurt.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 4:56 p.m. CST

Yup. It's still on the front page

    by frozen01

It's about the Children in Need clip *LOL* You know, that thing we've been talking about? ;) <p>Not really wanting to move from here, though. That TB is kinda filled with d-bags, apart from Smashing, of course, and has all but died anyways.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:11 p.m. CST

    I'm staying here too

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

You know, we are lucky to have the choice. I know fans of other shows that grumble they never get a single talkback.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:15 p.m. CST

    A question.........

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Is it off-topic to talk about Utah now? ;)

  • There it is!!! LOL And, no, Frozen Renee, we were talking about the Xmas Special airing on the same day in the UK and the US, how soon we forget. LOL

  • No, it's not. So, what's going in Utah?

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:26 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Are you sure? Isn't this thread supposed to be about the Xmas special?<br>I'm finding it hard to keep track nowadays.<br><br>Anywho...... the filming in Utah is done. But I've seen a youtube clip from one of the fans there this week, who was able to film the Who crew filming.<br>It's not much. It's just Karen running. But she does do good running.<br><br>

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:35 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

That is very true. :) <p>Let the others slobber over Karen in the other TB. Meanwhile, we've got video of her running! :D And thank you for that!

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:37 p.m. CST

Glad I didn't post in the other Docback...

    by DrMorbius

Being the fragile flower that I am...I just couldn't handle Renee calling me out as a d-bag...*snif*

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:38 p.m. CST

    By the way

    by frozen01

I saw something this morning about the Proms being aired on BBC America on Christmas. <p>Having Doctor Who News on Facebook is a very handy thing :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:40 p.m. CST

    "Calling you out"?

    by frozen01

Why, you've been a perfect gentleman! *LOL*

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:41 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

You'll have to forgive me... I think the core group of ours is quite used to a much more friendly and polite Doctor Who TB experience :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:45 p.m. CST

    Oops... I forgot V'Shael

    by frozen01

V'Shael is nice, and excluded from above descriptions :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:48 p.m. CST

    frozen01<p><p>I'm well aware of that...

    by DrMorbius

kind of refreshing change from the norm of AICN.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:50 p.m. CST

Had a quick look at the other Docback....................

    by axcel1

V'Shael being the peacemaker over there, too, well, good luck with that.

  • He's one of the few, some are a little mean.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:57 p.m. CST

    This is the good place

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

That other Docback started well enough, then the d-bags set upon it. One big difference here is we might write about finding Katherine Jenkins or Karen Gillan hot, but we'd never put it like *that*.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 5:59 p.m. CST

    The Doctor Who Proms

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

That's a really really good watch.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:04 p.m. CST

    Not British...

    by DrMorbius

What, perchance, are the Dr Who Proms?

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:10 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

It was a concert done by a full orchestra performing music from Doctor Who, and a little bit of classical music too. Hosted by Karen Gillan. And with a funny appearance by Matt Smith.<br>BBC America are showing it on Christmas day. It was well good. :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:11 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

I'm glad to hear that. I actually haven't had the pleasure of seeing it myself, and unfortunately, I no longer have BBCA. <p>Not that this is going to stop me, of course :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:14 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

Pardon if you've already said, but where are you from?

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:17 p.m. CST

    The Handsome 12th Doctor

    by DrMorbius

Thank you kind sir, it does indeed sound good but, alas, no BBCA for me. Perhaps it may show up one day on the internets?

  • Are we sure they're space sharks? And, you're welcome, Frozen Renee.

Welcome to the team, pick up an application form and your in! :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:31 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

No, of course not :) <p>But they look like sharks, and Handsome heard a rumor about flying space sharks, so we're going with space sharks :)

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:32 p.m. CST

    Space sharks

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Yeah, you see fins go past twice in the trailer. Once about halfway in, and again when the Doc is stood outside the window.

    Hi Shibley

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Yes. Cracking results today. I was mightily impressed by yours.

  • Ok

  • We don't all agree on the space sharks?

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:46 p.m. CST

    They *are* sharks. Trust me

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Flying space sharks.<br><br>And this is proof of how great the show is. The shark jumps Doctor Who. Never the other way around. :)

  • Good one. Only Doctor Who could turn that phrase around.

  • Nov. 20, 2010, 6:53 p.m. CST

    Ha! Good one! :)

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 2:23 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I've started making some rough plans of where I'll be on Xmas day. I don't think I'm going to be near a telly at Who-time, so I'll be arriving late to the discussion on this one. Probably the next day.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 4:20 p.m. CST

    Same here

    by frozen01

Doubt I'll be able to get it that quickly, no matter what my Xmas plans end up being.

  • I know I won't be seeing it until maybe a day or so later. I hope it a nice looonnnggg Xmas Special, the longer, the better.

    The American visit

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I read a few comments earlier from the Who crew about their jaunt in America. They had a lovely time.<br>They said Utah State couldn't have been more helpful with everything they needed. And the Who fans that turned up, 15 or so of them by the second day were very respectful of the filming. Keeping their distance in their own little 'fan camp'. During the breaks in the day the cast went and hung out with them, and it seems a pleasant time was had by all.<br><br>What I love the most is how we're everywhere. It happened when they went to Dubai. Now the same in Utah. Wherever in the world they go to film there'll be Who fans there. LOL

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 5:50 p.m. CST

    Is that right Frozen?

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I'll say my goodbyes now then.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 5:52 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

Well, I suppose it is the middle of nowhere. <p>But that is lovely, thanks for sharing! :)

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 5:56 p.m. CST

You thought there'd be more than 15?

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Bear in mind they never announced exactly where they'd be filming. And Utah is a big place I gather. I'm impressed 15 people were able to track them down.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:02 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

Big place by whose standards? :)

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:08 p.m. CST

Size isn't important (so they say)

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

My entire country could probably fit in Utah.

  • I think if they filmed in NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago, ect., there would have more Who fans. I think it was good that there was only a small group of fans, the smaller the number, the quieter they would be for filming. We want the UK Who crew to leave happy to be here. I'm only sorry that Matt Smith only went on one late night talk show. Also, surprised no local morning talk shows in Utah had anyone from Who on. Oh well, maybe next time they film here.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:15 p.m. CST

    They've gotten some exposure now

    by frozen01

Next time, it'll be HUGE ;)

  • Do we know why they needed to film in Utah? And, why they had to make a small corner in London(?) look like 1960s NYC?

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:28 p.m. CST

    I'm guessing

    by frozen01

There aren't many deserts in the UK. :P

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:28 p.m. CST

Oh yeah, there'll be more there next time

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

And I think things in general will be more 'normal'. This visit had been seen to be out of the ordinary. Matt's appearance on a chat show was like an alien thing, where the host had to explain who he was.<br>When they visit again, and I'm sure they will do, it'll be nicely less strange. And less panicky on the chat show front.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:32 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

That must have been so strange for you to watch! I mean, your media are all over everything, breathlessly reporting on what Karen is wearing, for gadsakes, and here a late night talk show host has to explain who Matt Smith is? *LOL*

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:32 p.m. CST

    by axcel1

Took a quick peek at the new Who Talkback, it died already. And, my man, Spud McSpud was not even on it. How sad.

  • Besides that. LOL

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:38 p.m. CST

    It was strange Frozen

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I read a line somewhere that said Craig Ferguson's show was the equivalent of a British chat show dedicating a whole hour to 'Seaquest DSV'. :)

  • Why did they need a desert location? That's the $64,000 question.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:42 p.m. CST

Oh, I don't know about that!

    by frozen01

I mean, even Americans don't know what Seaquest DSV was!

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:43 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

They needed a desert location because the story took place in a desert :P

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:44 p.m. CST

    That is the question Axcel

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

The desert location must be necessary to the plot, as the only time the Who crew ever leave Wales is when they can't recreate it there. Even the London scenes are filmed in Wales.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 6:49 p.m. CST

    Frozen, stop picking on Axcel

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Or we'll start talking about Sarah Jane again. :P

  • I'm guessing "Seaquest DSV" has not been seen by our friends in the UK?

  • What is the plot of the Doctor Who series 6 2 parter that needs a desert location?

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 7 p.m. CST

    Seaquest was shown over here

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I reckon about 6 people watched it.

  • Let's talk about Frozen Renee's favorite UK show!!!!

  • That many? Well, not every US show is a golden jewel.

  • Nov. 21, 2010, 7:07 p.m. CST

    Ok, time for my bed

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

The SJA chat will have to wait for another time. ;)<br><br>Hey, if you're still checking out Tardis Tara's page you'll have seen the Utah fans really did meet everyone who matters. Take a look see -<br><br><br><br>PS - I want that poster.

  • Good night, 34 days until the Doctor Who Xmas Special. As I always say, I hope you all enjoy the Xmas Special, I already know I will.

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Yep it was something of a mad weekend here. Utah, flying sharks, vimto.<br>I'll leave it to you to decide which was off-topic. :)

  • Nov. 22, 2010, 6:58 a.m. CST

    Synopsis has been released...

    by frozen01

but for the Christmas special, sorry :) <p>"Amy and Rory are trapped on a crashing space liner, and the only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, in a festive edition of the time-travelling adventure, written by Steven Moffat. But is Kazran Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?"

  • Nov. 22, 2010, 8:45 a.m. CST

  • Nov. 22, 2010, 9:43 a.m. CST

    Ooooh, some series 6 tidbits

    by frozen01

From DWM: <p>"The latest issue of the magazine also includes some season six spoilers. In the first two-parter, there's 'speculation' that River Song is responsible for killing John F. Kennedy. In episode three, written by Neil Gaiman, the Doctor lands on a 'junkyard planet' where he meets Idris (Suranne Jones) who's been preparing for her own death. Idris doesn't actually die as she expects, but by the time she meets the Doctor she's gone mad and winds up biting the Time Lord — and Idris turns out to be someone the Doctor has met before. Episode four will be written by Mark Gatiss. <p> And in episodes five and six, by Matthew Graham, the Doctor will face 'a dilemma the like of which he's never seen before.' And apparently the Doctor has some flashbacks to his visit to Skaro in 'Genesis of the Daleks' in the second half of Graham's story. <p> Episode seven, by Steven Moffat, will be the first half of a two-parter, to be concluded in the fall."

    ... and...

    by frozen01

"Amy and Rory are on their honeymoon during the episode, and run into trouble when the pleasure cruise spaceship they're travelling on finds itself under attack from 'something very nasty'. The spaceship is orbiting an alien planet, which is where the Doctor is for a considerate part of the story. This therefore causes Amy and Rory to be separated from the Time Lord for the majority of the episode." <p>Perhaps we were wrong, Handsome. Maybe it's not timey-wimey!

Actually, I had the same thought! *LOL* <p>I wonder if the whole Amy and Rory being in one place, Doctor in another thing will give us the same issues that The Lodger did.

  • Nov. 22, 2010, 12:22 p.m. CST

    On a side note

    by frozen01

The Gaiman episode sounds better and better every time we hear about it! <p>Also, I kinda find it funny that every other episode (in the first half of the series) gets something, but #4 just gets "It will be written by Mark Gatiss" *LOL*

    by frozen01

but I'm looking forward to the Gaiman ep SOOOOO much more! <p>There was a story in the Doctor Who graphic novels that kind of reminded me of his style. I think it was called the "Whispering Gallery", about a planet that honored its dead by hanging speaking paintings in a gallery. Their culture didn't allow the inhabitants to show emotion, though. Good story, with interesting artwork.

One part, two part, red part, Who part

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Next year it looks as if we're going to get more two-parters than in previous years. We know that it opens with one. We also know episodes 5 and 6 are a two-parter. Then there's the mid-season break with episode 7 ending on a big cliffhanger, so 7 and 8 will be connected. And can we venture that the end-of-season story will be in two parts as well?<br><br>Which kind do you prefer to watch? The single stand-alone stories, or those in two parts? Or would you like a return to the classic-Who style of having them spread out even more?

  • Nov. 24, 2010, 10:03 a.m. CST

    by frozen01

Kinda like two-parters. Although having to wait several months for the resolution is frustrating.

  • Nov. 24, 2010, 10:24 a.m. CST

Amy Pond is a great companion

    by jonsnow

I would have to agree that she is one of the best companions yet. I'm a recent watcher of Doctor who so when I say that David is the best one, I am only comparing him to the three so far in the latest series. Perhaps there were better actors in the past, I don't know. But I am sure that in the future Tennant will be regarded as one of the better casting decisions.

Shark Attack 3: Where's John Barrowman?

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

When I first heard there could be flying sharks in the Xmas special I had a picture in my head of what they'd look like. It was more than a little bit cheesy.<br>However the sharks shown in the trailer and promo pics look bloody great. It's a smart idea having them partly hidden in the fog. An idea that was possibly adapted from 'Jaws', where they created high suspense by not showing the shark too much. I'll bet anything that like in 'Jaws' the first time somebody gets eaten by one of the flying sharks we won't see the shark at all. Just the sight of person being dragged into the fog.<br>This will give suitable tension to the rest of the episode, as whenever we see a character walking through the fog we're all going to be thinking "Shark!"

  • And, I was basing my statment on an on-line interview with Michael Moorcock, who wrote a Doctor Who novel, he was saying what the BBC wouldn't let him do with Doctor Who, which was two things, no mentioning of Amy's room in the TARDIS and no using Captain Harkness in the novel.

    by KilliK

Tom Baker,Gillan is HAWT although her character needs improvement.i also liked the interaction between the Doctor and Rory, there was chemistry between them and i hope we see more of that in series 6. generally i enjoyed Moffat's run a lot, although the Angels retcon and the extremely ridiculous finale of the season caused a little sorrow to my enjoyment of the show. <p>anyway i cant wait for the new season,i am pretty sure that it will be even better that season5 now that Moffat and the cast have been warmed up. <p>oh and JERONIMOOOO <p>ps.i hope River Song will show us more of that splendid ass of hers.naked preferably.

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Blimey. You can tell we're not getting any new Who news when football and cricket get talked about.<br><br>Katherine Jenkins was on the telly this morning. Mainly to plug her album but they touched upon her appearance in the Xmas ep. She gave the impression that she's going to be singing in it at some point.

Voyage Of The Damned had a little singalong scene.<br>It doesn't surprise me that Katherine will be singing in it. After all, that is her day job.<br><br>I bet Billie Piper will be pissed off. It was for the best that the show wasn't infected by Billie's music.<br><br>Kylie Minogue on the other hand, she's done some good songs. I wouldn't have minded hearing "Can't get Who out of my head"

    <p><p>THE MAN (Doctor) WHO WASN'T THERE<p><p>

    by DrMorbius

  • I'm guessing Billie Piper is not one of your favorite singers? I won't mind the singing as long as it doesn't get in the way of any of the doctorwhoing that we all love. (Oooooo, I created a new word, "doctorwhoing".)

  • Nov. 29, 2010, 5:41 p.m. CST

I wasn't a fan of her music, no

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I realise I wasn't exactly the target audience for it. I remember thinking at the time how inexplicably popular she was.<br>I watched the video for "Because We Want To" earlier today to see if it was as bad as I remember. And it was.<br>There is something very surprising to be found in it. There's a Judoon. This was made 7 years before Doctor Who came back to our screens. Russell must have been a big fan.<br><br>I like "doctorwhoing" :)

  • A Judoon in her music video 7 years before Doctor Who came back to our tv screens, really? And, 10 years before "The Stolen Earth"?

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 7:59 a.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

It's a Judoon in as much as it's a fella with a big rhino head.<br>I'm not saying RTD 'borrowed' all his ideas from late-90's pop videos. But now that I think about it, wasn't there a Slitheen in Britney's "Baby One More Time"?

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 8:05 a.m. CST

    On another topic..........

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Sylvester McCoy has said that, if asked, he'd be delighted to come back to do a multi-Doctor story. The show celebrates 50 years in 2013 and then would be a perfect time to do it.<br>He also said that with modern technology it could be possible to have all the Doctors appear. And that "They could even make us thin again"<br>LOL

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 9:49 a.m. CST

    by frozen01

I bow to your knowledge of pop music ;) <p>We demand a multi-Doc story! With Paul McGann dammit! I wanna see his new Steampunky sonic screwdriver in action! :D <p>Sylvester McCoy, though, would be the icing on an already delicious cake :)

  • I second that emotion, if we could have the last five Doctors in one story, it would be a dream come true.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 12:42 p.m. CST

Oh, and truth be told, I actually kinda hate frosting.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 4:25 p.m. CST

    Oops, I said "kinda"!

    by frozen01

  • Yes, I know Christopher Eccleston's return will never happen, but, I can dream, can I? And, I "kinda" like frosting on my cake. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, cake with frosting.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 4:40 p.m. CST

    Who knows?

    by frozen01

Perhaps someday Mr. Eccleston will be desperate enough for a paycheck to consider it? ;) <p>Not sure how well a multi-Doc story will hold up in this day and age, though. For us fans, it'd be delightful, but for the average audience?

  • A "multi-Doc story" would make slam-bang Christmas Special in 2013!!!! (It should be at least a 90 minute, if not a 2 hour special.)

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 5:12 p.m. CST

    And, who knows????????????????????????

    by axcel1

Perhaps someday Ms Frozen Renee will be desperate enough for a piece of cake to consider eating it with frosting? LOL Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, you know you want to.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 5:18 p.m. CST

    I like cake

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I wouldn't rule Eccleston out completely. He's not anti-Who. He's just anti-talking-about-Who.<br><br>Out of all of them the one I'd want most to come back is McGann. He deserves the chance to be in a decent story.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 5:21 p.m. CST

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 5:44 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

He's been in LOTS of decent stories :P Down right excellent ones, actually. <p>But I get what you mean, and agree. I've made no secret about my little fangirl crush on Mr. McGann. :) More = VERY GOOD! <p>And if you don't mind me asking, what is your first name? It feels a little strange calling you Handsome all the time, and I'm sure it makes Simon and Rich very jealous ;)

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 5:51 p.m. CST

    by frozen01

Silly rabbit. I just eat around the frosting :P <p>And yes... while we're dreaming, how 'bout instead of an Xmas special, we get an Xmas MINI-SERIES!!!! ;)

  • I always call him, The Handsome 12th Doctor.

  • Nov. 30, 2010, 6:03 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

I should have specified McGann deserves to be *seen* in a decent story.<br><br>And you can call me Han if you want.<br><br>Or Keith.

  • First, you do realise you are committing a crime against cakes by doing that, don't you? LOL And, about the special, since we're dreaming here, why not a whole season (series)? Wait, were you talking about the Time-War or Mult-Doc? Both would be great for all 14 episodes.

  • Keith is good, too.

  • 1) Frozen Renee is a rule-breaker b) A whole year of a Time-War AND Multi-Doc seems a bit much. (Well, I don't agree, a year long story arc of both would be awesome!) 3) For some reason, Han seems creepy. Don't ask Frozen Renee why. (Well, I don't agree with that, I was thinking of Han, as in Han Solo, who is not creepy.) d) Keith it is. Yes, it is nice to meet you, Keith. 5) Top Gear America is only a pale shadow of its UK Version, very pale. f) Well, no f, Doctor Who get an A+.

"It's the deepest part of winter, the exact midpoint, Christmas Eve – halfway out of the dark. Amy and Rory are trapped on a stricken space liner that's plummeting through banks of thick icy fog to the surface of the planet below. <p> Only one man has the power to save them; only one man is in possession of a machine that can clear the fog and let them land safely. <p> That man is Kazran Sardick, a rich but lonely old miser who rules Sardicktown with a sky-mast of iron. <p> The Doctor's only chance of rescuing the ship's four thousand passengers is to save Kazran's soul and show him that life is worth living. For this he needs to go back, way back, to when Kazran was a boy with a life full of promise. <p> But can the Doctor put a song in Kazran's heart and love in his life, in time for Christmas? by frozen01

The Walking Dead, which I think is a really great show, so watch it if you haven't already done so, is apparently gonna be shaking things up a bit and "going Doctor Who" with freelance writers. <p> <p>I can see how this would work for a show like Doctor Who, which is basically a loosely-connected series of stories, but The Walking Dead is nothing like that. Don't know how I feel about this...

  • Dec. 2, 2010, 11:03 a.m. CST

That's funny you should say that. I was re-watching Life on Mars a couple of days ago, and was thinking that it would be nice to see more of the cast in other shows. Wish granted, I guess :)

  • David Tennant made a four episode tv series (Here in the US, it would be called a "mini-series") called "Single Father". The BBC showed it in October.

  • We'll let that joke die the horrible death it deserves.

  • 3 weeks to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nobody ask, "until what?", guess.

    Ooh, I know!

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

It's 3 weeks today when I watch the episode, and then spend the next 2 hours reading the new Docback. :)

  • Santa Claus is coming to town!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, wait, don't you guys in the UK call him Father Christmas?

  • That darn Doctor Who Xmas Special airs on Christmas day, must be why it's called the Xmas Special.

  • Dec. 5, 2010, 5:50 p.m. CST

    by The Handsome 12th Doctor

Yep, we call him Father Christmas here. Unless we're singing, then it's always Santa.<br><br>In a little link to that........ I'm trying to get to see "Rare Exports" this week, the bizarro and fantastic Finnish film about Santa. The problem is it has an annoyingly limited release. As far as I can find the nearest cinema to here that's showing it is in Manchester. Which is a bit of a trek just to go see a film.

  • In a NY paper, not a movie to take the kids to.

  • I just saw "Skyline", not as bad as the movie reviewers said it was, the ending screams sequel. And, I was going thur my DVD collection and saw my Doctor Who Special DVD set. I watched "THe Next Doctor", great the second time around. Hey, David Tennant and the Cybermen, as the song goes, (Doctor) who can ask for anything more!!!!

David Tennant FTW!!!<p><p>Saw a posting by you that proclaimed Farscape your favorite (of all time?) and Stargate, and Stargate:Atlantis two other of your favorites. Where does The Doctor fit in? Number 2? (no, not THAT number 2) 3? 4?

<p><p>HE (Doctor) WHO LAUGHS LAST, LAUGHS BEST<P><P>

    by DrMorbius

  • Doctor Who, Farscape, Stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis are all tied at first place. I say this because they are all my favorites for different reasons. They are, after all, different shows. (Ok, SG1 and SGA are the same, but, not Who and Farscape.)

    Didn't see that...

  • Over at, there are 16 pics from a "photo shoot" for the special, keep in mind, I said, "photo shoot", not scenes from the special. It's really just Smith and the two guest stars posing with props and smiling for the camera.
