    Waiting, waiting...

    by Kammich

I just want to see some footage, because I've got no knowledge of the graphic novel so I have no idea what the tone of this movie will be like. And Favreau is hit-and-miss for me, in that department. I think he's really excelled when he's playing in admittedly light fantasy fare, like "Elf" and "Zathura"... but I'm not sure if he's got the chops to pull off western and sci-fi--two of the more polarizing genres out there.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 12:42 p.m. CST

    by David Assholehoff

I guess Firefly might fit that better... :-)

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 12:42 p.m. CST

Haven't we seen this photo before?

    by Squashua

I know I've seen that wrist thing on a cowboy photo before. I mean, not "12 hours ago on another site delayed before it gets approved for AICN" before, but more like "several months ago either here or on another site as a first photo of the film or whatever" before.

Scfi as a Western is a big genre

    by MurderMostFowl

There's room in it for more than one inspiration. Before firefly and bebop there was Galaxy Rangers, BraveStar, The Dark Tower (books I mean ) , Westworld, Outland.... even Ice Pirates and Battle Beyond the Stars have cowboy/western elements to some of the characters. It's kind of a no brainer. <BR><BR> I do think that Cowboy Bebop is the best of them all myself, but I'm kind of biased. Maybe Galaxy rangers could have been better too if the show had been steered towards adults.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 1 p.m. CST

Is a tight butt really going to sell tickets to the family crowd? They need a better poster. How about a cowboy on a horse, with a bright light shining down on him, Close Encounters style.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 1 p.m. CST

    This does look familiar

    by Inglorious Bastard

Maybe its similar to a pose from a different movie poster.

    Thanks Faulkner

    by Inglorious Bastard

Those seem pretty close. I do kind of like the idea of copying an old posters style then tweaking it, especially for a movie thats essentially a tweak on westerns. I kind of wish our first poster for this was a little more...iconic, I guess.

    by Cobra--Kai

During the Italian Renaissance bored artists would occasionally add in extra 'details' up high on ceiling murals to amuse themselves. Caricatures or cherubs showing their asses, that kinda thing.<p> I'm thinking the graphic designer who was asked to photoshop this bland, generic poster did the same thing... "hehe, they'll never notice the massive BUTTCRACK i've stuck on the cowboy!"<p> The San Andreas fault of buttcracks.

Really, you must lead a sheltered life if you think IM2 was a "debacle." There were an abundance of debacles this year (Legion?), but Iron Man 2, while not a great film, was not one of them.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 1:55 p.m. CST

    by RowKseat25

Lazy-ass Hollywood marketing... Basically the same feel as all those Iron Man 2 posters... character taking up frame, logo... and not a very inventive logo at that... I'm looking forward to this mashup... but the poster ain't doing diddly squat for me... such a great premise with loadsa creative marketing potential... or is it a case that as well as the studios and executives, even the marketing gurus are not that creative?

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 1:59 p.m. CST

    Why the hate for IM2?

    by MurderMostFowl

I thought it was good. It was a little of a mess with trying to squeeze in the "other" super heroes... I felt the movie needed to be about 30 minutes longer to support that stuff. The final battle was a little underwhelming, thought the "wonder twin powers, activate!" bit was well done.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 2 p.m. CST

    by MurderMostFowl

Now there's a movie that looked like it was going to be good. The first 20 minutes is pure gold. Then it turns to brass.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 2 p.m. CST

This concept just feels retarded to me

    by Bruce of all Trades

I liked Firefly and everything, but that show presented a technologically advanced future that culturally reverted back to the Old West. This is the actual Old West being invaded by technology. Let's face it, if anything like this actually happened, the aliens would enslave our asses in minutes. These dumb hick motherfuckers wouldn't know how to pick up a piece of advanced alien technology, let alone use it. <p><P>And yes, I know this is a fantasy and I'm supposed to suspend the ol' disbelief and kick back and relax, but it still comes off more retarded than Goldblum cramming a computer virus up some alien's ass.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 2:02 p.m. CST

    by Fa_Tass_DinoMolester

tuchal-area. <p>If the poster is this incompatibly executed, doesn't exactly bode well for the film. And oh yeah, it's directed by Jon Fatreau.

    Tight pants on a cowboy

    by Big_erk

I have a co-worker who does lots of rodeo. He says that cowboys wear tight pants so that their man parts don't shift and get caught between their ass and the saddle. I do think squashing your nuts between you and a hard leather saddle would be a bad thing.

    YAWN! What a boring poster!

    by Johnno

Oh look! It's a dude with his back to us glancing sideways... I've only seen this... oh... EVERYWHERE!!!! What the &$^% is up with marketing these days??? WHy not have something different, or maybe even something obvious, like a cowboy on a horse looking up at a spaceship or something as the title suggests... even that would've been a big difference from this!!! This Poster officially pisses me off in a way I'd never imagined! I'm going to skip this one in the theater based solely on this poster! Good job marketing!

So "Indians" and "aliens" are interchangable

    by Chishu_Ryu

Indians=aliens=illegal immigrants=the bad gusys. Now that America has successfully removed the stinger from the Native American via germ warfare, scorched earth, and fake treaties, it's time for the Cowboy to pick on somebody else. How about aliens? I suppose the term "aliens" isn't slang for "illegal immigrants" is it? I saw hints of conservatism in Iron Man 2. Is this more of the same? Jon Favreau is such a douchebag to me anyway. This movie looks like more of the same douchebaggery.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 5:59 p.m. CST

    Mr Ford.....

    by Sprinky

Don't suck this time okay. I've been waiting for a great Ford movie for years now. And don't tell me you've given us KOTCS...that was no comeback but utter crap. So that's all i have to say.

    by jameskpolk

Thanks for posting the link to that picture. I'd like to point out that the background in that pic looks kind of cheap. Like old Star Trek-let's beam-down-to-planet-that-is-really-just-a-soundstage-withcardboard buildings, I mean.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 6:20 p.m. CST

    What's on his arm...

    by akcies

Hilarious, but I'm pretty sure Favreau was up late one night and stole a product from Discovery Channel's PITCHMEN for what's on Daniel Craig's arm. I present for your viewing pleasure: the hexlight!! Here's to cheap special effects! And it'll help Daniel Craig in those hard-to-reach places!

Why does every genre bluckbuster have appear "bad-ass"?

    by Anything But Tangerines

What sound like more fun than Cowboys and Aliens? Yet, no. It will have to be dark and moody... FUCK THAT!!!!!!

How many of you guys are in the closet?

    by andrew coleman

The only thing you guys notice... Is the guys ass. Then you come on here and rant about how "gay" it is. The only gay thing is you. Seriously just come out... Then you don't have to go down to little Vietnam to get a young man to play with your cow bells. Just come out because this is pathetic. I am with some of you that this could easily have been a Jonah Hex poster without the glowing arm band. Oh well the art of movie posters has died. Mainly because studios are too afraid of isolating stupid people(Mainly from the midwest excluding Austin Texas, Chicago... That's it) who wouldn't understand artistic posters. So over and over again we get bull shit posters with either big heads or guy standing in shadows. It sucks but that's how it is.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 7:11 p.m. CST

    spectrebeeyatch... good point

    by MattmanReturns

I think it's only fair we have to put up with a guy's ass on a poster from time to time... given how many posters feature girl's asses. Chick's (and gay talkbackers) deserve some eye-candy too.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 7:17 p.m. CST

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 7:28 p.m. CST

the only thing i noticed was Favreu's hack name on the poster

    by KilliK

god,i am starting to sound like Asimov..<br /> <p>btw i dont mind that the poster has a male ass on focus, but if i am not mistaken that ass is supposed to belong to dog-face Daniel Craig.i mean even if you are a gay,you cant get a joy by looking at it,when your brain automatically connects the ass with Craig's buldog face.sigh..

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 7:33 p.m. CST

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 9:47 p.m. CST

    very cool, very classy

    by lyleblake82000

I really like this poster; it's classy and cool. The pose doesn't bother me because I can't remember ever having seen another poster pose like it.<P>Some people have made fun of the bracelet, but it's the best part of the picture. The way it glows in contrast to the rest of the cowboy MAKES the poster. Much better than any spaceship.

  • Nov. 15, 2010, 9:48 p.m. CST

oh, yeah, and by the way

    by lyleblake82000

I'm gay and I never even noticed the ass crack or how tight the pants are. I was looking at the overall design.

The getup is so echoing that shit. Anyways Daniel Craig in cowboy outfit = sexy as fuuuck. And Olivia Wilde, Rockwell and hopefully an awake Harrison Ford makes this film sound awesome <p> "From the writers of Star Trek and Fringe" oh shit, never mind. Fuck this film.

  • Nov. 16, 2010, 11:40 a.m. CST

Ahah! He is gay and I called it years ago!

    by UltraTron

I'm always right. I first suspected when I saw his hairstyle in that nickole Kidman one. It was just a glance he gave and I could tell it was the glance of an older queen. Also his date for the bond premier was unbelievably hot but she paused a little too long when asked if she felt lucky to be his date. You cannot hide from UltraScrutiny. Well I'll take his gay ass as the new Indiana jones or anything else- he's got it.

  • Nov. 16, 2010, 11:43 a.m. CST

Nice to see that you still traipse these boards. Saw the early footage at Comic Con and looking forward to seeing the finished product. Aaah, AICN, the last bastion of douchebaggery, where the high and mighty sit and pass judgement on a film by merely gazing at a teaser one-sheet and proclaiming it 'shit'. Gotta love 'em.

even if its good, which it may very well be. To much competition next summer for this type of movie to win over a big general audience. Much less to get repeat viewings while in the theaters.
