The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day doesn’t make love. It is love.

Published at: Nov. 12, 2010, 9:53 p.m. CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic! After hearing of the passing of the great producer Dino De Laurentiis, I hit my BTS folders in search of something to pay tribute to the man. Outside of a really tiny (but cool) King Kong ’76 pic, the one that jumped out to me was a particularly hot shot of the amazingly sexy Jane Fonda as Barbarella, a film produced by De Laurentiis. That lucky man inappropriately close is director Roger Vadim, Fonda’s then husband. Maybe that’s why she looks bored instead of uncomfortable. I kid, I kid! Barbarella is a crazy, sexy fun flick and Fonda was never hotter than in this flick. Hope you enjoy the pic and thank you, Dino, for making this movie a reality (and for making the hormones of millions of young boys, and I’m sure a few older boys, go crazy for generations!).

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here. Tomorrow’s pic features a Carpathian at work. -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter

I've never seen Barbarella before even though I know enough about it from what people have told me through the years. I definitely need to see this flick!

  • Nov. 13, 2010, 1:02 a.m. CST

    Ralph Nader?

    by dukeroberts

Voting for Ralph Nader and what Jane Fonda did to American GIs in Vietnam are not even close to the same thing. It is not about political beliefs. It is about being a fucking traitor and almost literally spitting in the faces of American GIs while they were locked up in cages. They were fighting for her rights to say whatever the hell she wanted over here. They were not fighting for her to tell them they needed to turn against the evil, imperialist United States as they starved, bodies broken, in unclean, unsanitary and sweltering cages, treated like filthy animals by the VC and NVA. If you can't see that difference then you're ridiculous.

Well played. I don't think Tall Boy is getting it. He thinks I have a problem with Fonda because she votes Republican or Democratic and I don't. If he were to spend five minutes researching what she did in Vietnam, he might at least see where we're coming from. Oh well, ignorance is bliss.

  • Nov. 13, 2010, 7:18 a.m. CST

    This went south quick!

    by Randall Flagg

"They were fighting for her rights to say whatever the hell she wanted over here." I'm not weighing in on either side of the Jane Fonda nonsense; but claiming that Vietnam had anything to do with American freedom never ceases to be funny to me. Same with Iraq. Any credibility your argument has is overshadowed by your laughable notion that the NVA was somehow a threat to anyone's first amendment rights.

Now that veteran's day is over, I'll go ahead and say it: <p> People in the desert propping of corporate oil interests are NOT defending my freedom to say what I want. They are not protecting my freedom of speech, or any other kind of freedom. Actually, their mere presence in the middle east, and insertion in the political outcomes in southeast asia, latin america, and south america, makes people who live in those countries very mad at my country. Those people may one day seek revenge and, thus, threaten my freedom. Military intervention: destroying your freedom.

    Barbarella

    by Barron34

Weird sixties movie with cult interest. Hanoi Jane was hot, regardless of her politics. If they do a campy remake, they should cast Lindsay Lohan as Barbarella. They need a decent script and good production design, as the original was incomprehensible with cheesy production values.

  • Nov. 13, 2010, 10:38 a.m. CST

The dixie chicks merely voiced their opinions. Had they traveled to Iraq and posed with al-qaeda wearing explosive vests and smiling, that might be comparable to what Fonda did. I wish you could grasp the difference. And, yes, there were atrocities committed, but the troops were literally in hell, and women and kids were used to kill GIs, as modern terrorists do as well. War is absolutely fucking horrible, and always will be. The same shit happened in every war. People go crazy. Regardless, they are our soldiers and we will respect those that served. If they went crazy, we will deal with them, but not mock them. Remember who put them there to begin with.

    by Nerd Rage

what they accomplish? That's like treating a firemen who saves families the same as a firemen who burns down houses. You marginalize and trivialize the true heroics by giving of them all automatic praise. When the military accomplishes something great they should be praised, not when they enforce foolish or tyrannical doctrine. If you enforce foolish or tyrannical doctrine you should be called out for it because you're part of the problem.

    sauron the mouthpiece

    by GrndlWnderer

First off, not all lefties took to Jane's actions, which crossed a big line, even within the context of the time. Second, Kennedy and Johnson did escalate the war, but did not commit us to it, that one goes to Ike, thank you very much. As an aside, not really related to the conversation, remember Nixon and Cambodia, plus Watergate...don't wave Nixon around as a positive example of conservative leadership, seriously.Tell all conservatives this one, never use Nixon as an example...he is exactly what liberals react to against the conservative movement in America...the perceived (but in this case actual)abuse of power and the trampling of law. That's akin to asking "People of Color" to remember how wholesome and wonderful America was before the terrible liberal movements of the 60's and 70's.Back when they didn't have the right to vote, or sit in a restaurant.Or have equal rights or pay to a white person. Also point that one out to your generally white, conservative friends... every time you talk about that period of time as being a better time...at least 90 million Americans will not agree with you. Thirdly, and most importantly, do not criticize a movement as unthinking or reactionary, and more importantly, not being able to debate a point, when almost every single post you make is an ad hominem attack without evidence, and seems to be more based on name calling rather than political debate. For those who do not know what that is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem This is a terrible trend in the Conservative conversation now, to name call instead of engage in debate and site facts or studies. To agree with you, nothing is wrong with disagreeing with a war, in fact it is a patriotic duty to protest a war that you feel is wrong, but you do not attack our soldiers ( the liberal movements greatest failure in the sixties was the hostility directed towards our soldiers) or aide and abet an enemy. What Fonda did was wrong, and she should apologize for it ( if not be prosecuted for it), but she was still hella hot in that movie.

BARBARELLA is a strange, weird, psychedelic mess. It is worth seeing at least once. It is like a hetero version of ROCKY HORROR. It is a cult movie/midnight movie at most. It is also a bit of a tease, since it intimates a lot of sex, but is soft-core at best. Most of the time it is just pointless. I imagine that a lot of people used pharmaceuticals while watching it. Anyway, it is not a good movie, but it is a weird/campy cult spectacle. Watch at your own risk.

    by SAILOR_RIPLEY

doesn't automatically mean you don't support the troops. You can say blame the leaders that put them there, but don't forget that every soldier in the Middle East today essentially put themselves there by making a choice to join the Armed Forces. My father is a Vietnam vet who joined the Marines knowing where it might lead him. He now would tell any 18 year old that it was a mistake and the War in Nam was bullshit. But the difference is unlike my Dad, there were a lot of kids that lost their lives in Vietnam that were put their against their will. Fonda was right to denounce the war, but maybe went about it the wrong way? On a lighter note, Sauron, you know you used to wank it to your Mom's Fonda work-out tapes.

But it may be understandable considering the atrocities being committed at the time against innocent people. Men, women and children burned alive, raped, mutilated, shot at indiscrimately. How is that any different from taking a stand against the Nazis or the Nips? In the face of such horrors how does one protest tastefully? I love my country but cannot deny nor condone atrocities committed in its name. In our name. Sadly, history repeated itself with Iraq. <P> I'm glad Fonda apologized in the aftermath. It was the honorable thing to do. Have the leaders and the soldiers who are responsible for the crimes against humanity apologized, much less brought to justice? I think a little perspective is in order.

It confirms the unfortunate stereotype liberals already have of conservatives. Remember, as T.H. White's Arthur said, it's not might makes right, it's might for right. Remaking Barbarella

    by Barron34

Robert Rodriguez was supposed to remake BARBARELLA with his squeeze Rose McGowan starring, but it fell through, so any remake is shelved right now. If anyone does get to remake the flick, I would suggest Lindsay Lohan for the starring role. She has the fame to open a movie, and starring in this kind of role would be explosive, publicity-wise. Add a decent story and script (depart from the fairly incomprehensible original), and have decent production values and effects, and I think you would have a winning flick.

I haven't put forth an argument to be defeated, and I said I assumed "oedipan" was a typo; I simply said it was unfortunately juxtaposed with slamming someone for "trying to sound intelligent". <p> I'm not drawing on "the liberal playbook" as you assume, because I'm not a liberal. I'm not addressing substantive issues at all; I'm giving advice on managing the impression you make. And calling yourself "sauronthepowerful" is like calling yourself "luciferthemighty"; it plays into the stereotypes of conservatives instead of refuting them. I'm genuinely confused as to why anyone would call themselves that, other than for the sake of adolescent posturing in a metal band. And you don't seem to be that kind of guy. <p> As Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. once said: "We must be careful what we pretend to be; because we are what we pretend to be."

    by Arcangel2020

I remember seeing "Barbarella" for the first time on Beta video taoe format back when I was a kid in the mid-80ies and I remember too that after reading ALL the hype from various Sci Fi Magazines and seeing photos/film stills...thinking to myself..."Wow, what a total piece of crap THIS movie IS!"... I think with all the recent re-makes/re-boots and updated storylines of past films that are being done? Wouldn't it be great if a really excellent "Barbarella" was made now? I am talking about one that not only has a stunning actress as (the new) Barbarella, but cool special effects, an updated/better story and characters that are much better...and have it also pretty close to but JUST misses the dreaded NC17 rating (That could be resevered for the DVD release at a later date! ha!).

Now you can do that if you want to give them all your money. In fact there is literally nothing left of the America I was born in. Sorry but the war profits don't trickle down to you serfs. So if a chick disagrees with shooting folks it's kinda ok because there's nothing for the american citizen to gain or lose from it. Your arn't getting rich anymore- the party is over. You are now an american slave of a mafia government that would chain you all to your desks like on that island. Then it would kill you and blame it on the Russian mob. You are the men who placed us firmly in the hands of this corrupt insane asylum. There's no going back and there's no escaping this machine- so for god's sake don't agree with war mongerers. Did this last war kickstart our economy? We started it for that purpose- has it worked? Maybe. Look I'm all for slaughtering and drinking the blood of anyone without American citizenship if it brings back good ol 80s capitalism but I'm just not seeing that. Everything you saw Fonda do is just part of the entertainment you have waving in your face to distract you from the metal sideways dildo jammed so securely up your ass that the chains attached to it stretch out of your mouth to secure your feet and hands in place. So you can take your politics and shove them in a museum basement drawer. You didn't know enough about politics when you might have had a chance to stop these monsters and you wouldn't have had the money necessary at any rate. We didn't march on Washington with pitchforks for atrocity after atrocity after burning our rights after atrocity- now you sit there miss-directing rage at a silly woman with good intentions.  Enjoy  whatever bubbles of sanity you can scratch up folks.

I you think *ANY* politician has your best interests in mind...

by Damned if I can login

...then you're even more stupid than you look. Politicians have only two items on their agenda: 1) get elected no matter the cost, & 2) put as much money in their pockets as possible before they get kicked out.<p> And therefore I don't consider any political views when it comes down to da fappin'...great titties are great titties, no matter which side they choose.

...but I'll watch her, her niece, her brother and, most importantly, her dad, in anything. All hail the Fabulous Fondas.
