Mr. Beaks Announces The Winners Of The SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD Blu-ray Contest!
Okay, folks. I've read each and every one of your proposed Sex Bob-omb LP titles, and, after much agonizing, have finally selected one grand prize winner and five runners-up. You guys did not make this easy at all. So many great suggestions - the majority of which worked in references to classic NES games, while others drew (sometimes stealthy) inspiration from Bryan Lee O'Malley's books.
I had no real criteria by which I deemed one title better than another. Cleverness was all that mattered (though non-sequiturs did ultimately fare better than SUPER MARIO BROS. references). Selecting the grand prize winner was easy, as it combined three SCOTT PILGRIM essentials: Canada, video games and rock and roll.
LONG MAY YOU (DIRECTIONAL PAD LEFT OR RIGHT + B BUTTON)
Kudos to Levi Fuller for this first-ever mash-up (as far as I know) of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and SUPER MARIO BROS.
And now for the five (5) runners-up. Some of these I could definitely see emblazoned across a Sex Bob-omb album cover. Others just made me laugh. Winners name in parentheses, followed by brief rationale from moi.
JAM WASTELAND TORNADO (Frank Miszczuk) - I thought this was a random nod to The Jam. Evidently, it's a CASTLEVANIA reference. Sounds like Sex Bob-omb either way.
LUST CONCUSSION (Dan Furoy) - Just sounds right. Bonus points for returning no results on Google.
URBAN CHAMPION (David Daw) - Sentimental pick. Got this goofy, laughably limited Nintendo fighting game for Christmas '86 (along with the NES Deluxe Set. Number of times I tried to play GYROMITE: 1).
THE BEV MARSH GANG BANG (Ryan Russell) - This was unexpected. A bit rough for a Sex Bob-omb LP title. Perhaps it's their SEASON IN HELL. Only a Duddits joke could've topped this.
2600 WAYS TO DIE (Michael Ponder) - Makes me feel like playing some YAR'S REVENGE.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to everyone who participated. Y'all so smart!
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD hits Blu-ray/DVD on November 9th, 2010.

But I personally think few of these would actually fit Sex Bob-omb album titles. I'm just immensely jealous though.

Besides the main winner, those surprisingly sucked.

I thought mine was a slam-dunk. Oh well. Maybe next time.
Nov. 8, 2010, 5:10 p.m. CST
looks like I need to go buy the Bluray tomorrow. My submissions were: 1.Wind Me Up, Light My Wick (in reference to getting those Bob-Ombs going and slightly sexual I guess) 2.Subspace Through My Mind On RollerBlades (more direct reference to the book for Scott and Ramona..tho I suppose it doesnt capture the entire band). OOooH well, Congtrats again to those who won.

I know this has been argued again and again by fans of Scott Pilgrim, and it does little to convince nay-sayers, yet your post wasn't cynical, so I'll respond. I have to compare the film to movies like Inception or The Matrix. I vividly remember the experiences of watching both of those movies opening weekend. I remember being impressed by how ambitious the movies were, how creative the movies were, how much work and detail seemed to go into every moment, and to be honest it was really refreshing. The movies seemed to be trying to please a specific audience, one that wanted a more intelligent sci-fi/action movie. Now, both of those movies weren't trying to be the highest of high art. They delivered a lot of popcorn entertainment, which made them enjoyable, and not simply Academy Award fodder. Scott Pilgrim is kind of like those movies in that it's not a movie made to please everyone, yet it's ambitious, creative, detailed, and enjoyable. It's not for everyone, once again, yet it's like a fantasy geek finding out that an ambitious director and a studio with plenty of money to spend is about to make the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which frankly on paper doesn't seem like a movie (franchise) for the masses.

I don't want to hate, but Beaks has a terrible track record on this site, especially with contests. It's gotten to the point where I don't read most of his posts just because of the completely unprofessional attitude I get from him. This is half the reason I'm on SlashFilm a lot more often than AICN these days. I also don't want to be a jerk to the other contestants, but I've got to agree with RyanEsta. I liked the first place title, but none of the others really grabbed me or felt like Sex Bob-omb albums. I love some of the ones you guys have already posted on here--ALL YOUR BASS ARE BELONG TO US is hilarious. Mine were -METROIDSEXUAL -DOMO ARIGATO, GRAND THEFT ROBOTO -THE PUCK MAN COMETH Beaks should post a list of the other ones who entered.

2600 Ways to Die as an LP title.
Nov. 8, 2010, 6:24 p.m. CST
Couldn't pay me to through this film again. Honest.
Nov. 8, 2010, 6:27 p.m. CST
Cause that would actually be an awesome title for an LP. The Killers could call their third LP Lust Conussion and I would say that's an awesome title

im stoked this piece of shit bombed. Sitting through the preview a few times at the movies was enough. im sick of the geeky fucking lead. the ugly geeky chick. all of it. its beyond me why anyone commits a big budget to fan boy movies, sure it will get good internet buzz from shitheads like harry. but no one will actually go watch it. as for the guy who saw it 7 times???? seek help.
Nov. 8, 2010, 7:42 p.m. CST
Cera possesses anti-charisma, which he appears to actively cultivate <p>Ramona was unappealing too -- Knives was much cuter<p>Scott had no real character progression: he defeated everyone he fought, right from the start, so there was no suspense<p>There was no discernable reason WHY he had to "defeat her 7 evil exes" -- it made no sense. How can a movie depend on an utterly arbitrary, unexplained, wholly made-up "necessity" and expect us to go along for the ride?<p>It toook place in such an unreal world it took me out of the experience; I couldn't relate to what was happening becasue it was so hallucinatory and strange<p>Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrible; there were some hilarious jokes, and some of the fights were very well-staged. But overall, thanks to the above factors, I was just never engaged.

NIce, funny, well made flick.

1st in regards to the contest. I submitted the grand prize winning title. My other titles were "Bullet Bill With Tiny White Wings" (based on marios bros. and Smashing Pumpkins) and "Bom-omb That Hole In The Moon" (based on one of the evil ex'es putting a hole in the moon for Ramona and if I was Scott that would always be something you were tying to top so I would want to blow it up). I was worried that maybe I shouldn't use a SMB reference but it worked out. As far as the judging (not because I won) of course it is subjective. The contest rules clearly stated that and it has to be that way. I think probably anyone who entered fells like theirs is good and deserved to win because you are judging it based on what you like and your sensibilities. This goes by Mr. Beaks opinion. If anyone else on the site would have been the judge the results probably would have been totally different. Regarding "Long May You Run" it was actually a side project by Young and Stills. That was the name of the album and the song. Since those are the 2 members of Sex bom-omb I thought it would be the perfect place to start my entry. My personal faves that I have saw mentioned (including contest winners):2600 ways to die, puck-man fever, all your bass are belong to us, konami code (I thought about that one too), and domo arigoto grand theft robot. Those are more my taste and I am sure others feel differently.

congrats and all, I just guess I expected the konami code to be at least in the top 5

I thought the movie was really good. I will not watch it 7 times though. To me it was very different and inventive. It did a wonderful job of taking certain ideas/cultures and meshing them together as far as all of the references. I am willing to bet the guy who did see it 7 times was still picking up on stiff the last time he saw it. The closest movie I would compare it to is actually inception. Just because where they were creating different dream worlds I think Scott Pilgrim was almost in a dream like world the whole time. For that movie they created all this stuff that you see in games and made it real to them. It is definitely not my fave of all time but I have not ever seen anything like it before.

Nov. 9, 2010, 11:53 a.m. CST
...actually watched it on my Galaxy S phone headed to DC (about the only time I ever use it for video). <p> Pretty entertaining - I actually liked the universe they created, it had the same "WTF?" vibe so many video game stories have. You just have to kind of accept it. <p> I did think it was a little too long - a critic said something to the effect of "about 2 evil ex's too long" and I'd agree. I thought they could have just trimmed down the whole back story with Envy and even excluded the whole Todd/vegan bit.
Nov. 9, 2010, 11:55 a.m. CST
...and posted your titles in this thread, some of your submissions were _clearly_ better than the winners.
