Deadline reports Noomi Rapace (who played the title character in the original “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and just joined the cast of “Sherlock Holmes 2”) is Ridley Scott’s favorite for the Ripley-esque female lead in his “Alien” prequel.
The site also reports these other actresses are being considered for the role:
Carey Mulligan (“Wall Street 2”)
Abbie Cornish (“Bright Star”)
Natalie Portman (“Thor”)
Olivia Wilde (“Tron Legacy”)
Rapace is smaller but the nude scenes in “Tattoo” demonstrate she has a lean physique similar to that of (link NSFW) Sigourney Weaver, who starred in Scott’s original “Alien” more than 30 years ago.
Rapace played a not-unRipley-like role in and was the best thing about “Tattoo” but I’ve not yet seen her do anything in English.
The prequel is set about 30 years before "Alien."
It's also been rumored that Scott is pursuing for a role Lance Henriksen, who did not appear in "Alien" but did appear as Charles Bishop Weyland in "Alien Vs. Predator," as well as the android Bishop in "Aliens" and Bishop's creator Michael Bishop in "Alien3."
