No Time For 2D, Dr. Jones!!
I am – Hercules!!
Lucasfilm will announce next month it intends to convert all of the “Indiana Jones” movies to 3D for theatrical re-release, according to Blue Sky Disney, which apparently has a decent track record on reporting this kind of thing.
Unlike the 3D “Star Wars” movies, according to the site, the “Jones” movies will be re-released in the same order they were released. So “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which takes place after “The Temple of Doom,” will be the first returning to cinemas.
I am agnostic with regard to the 3D, except in that I welcome any opportunity to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark” with an audience.

well, as long as it's played in 2D in some shitty theater...

I'll see it. Could care less about this 3D bullshit.

MAKE IT SO!!!!!!!

" So “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which takes place several years after “The Temple of Doom,” will be the first returning to cinemas." Let me be the first to ask, are you on crack?

Raiders takes place in 1936, Temple of Doom in 1935

Star Wars 3D, yes. Indy, not really. However, in theatres?
by Tall_Boy66
Fuck yes. I saw all 3 Indy movies pushing about 10 years ago in an Indy film-fest at my school. The Raiders print was scratched to hell and it cuts out when the damn plane explodes at the reel change. So I'd totally like to see a digitally cleaned up theatrical release of Indy. And if it's in 3D.... eh, whatever.
-
I even like Crystall Skull, but I'm not sure if I like about this "let's convert things into 3D" craze.
-
Usually when I watch Indy movies, I'll watch all 3. And Temple is technically the first movie. And I do actually love opening the entire series on the "Anything Goes" musical number, which seems like a great opening suite. Besides, Raiders and Last Crusade flow together better and Temple works as just a one-off dark adventure to start.
-
Can't wait to see a flaming heart in 3D.
-
You don't know what you're talking about. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is the first film in the series and should be released first under any circumstances. The only reason TEMPLE OF DOOM is set one year earlier is because the beards wanted to set the opening sequence in Shanghai and since the Battle for Shanghai happened in 1937 and resulted in some Chinese occupation it was decided to just set it in 1935. This would also allow them to have a new love interest without having to explain why Marion Ravenwood was absent.

Player01, why would you even want to start with Temple of Doom?
by Player_Two_has_entered_the_game
It's the weakest of the first 3. Let me be the second to ask... are you on crack?
-
Seriously, dude??
-
holy monkey shit, that's just silly.
-
For the first time since the fucking theater. In a theater. I consider movies unseen since the theater if they have never been released in HD. I of course have all the star wars films in 1080rez already. But I'll definitely be illegally downloading the new bluerays of all this Lucas shit when it comes out. Figure it's the 3rd HD format and he's just getting around to it after all his THX quality bullshit so he deserves anything he gets. Lucas wants you to have quality versions of his movies like Japanese people want to not fuck Teddy bears with tentacle cocks.
-
So you could care less? Means you care a bit about this 3D bullshit then :)
-
Temple of Doom, pssh more like Temple of Terrible Child Actor 80s camp.
-
Pronto!! Also, the original story I read indicated that this would all happen AFTER the Star Wars saga was put out 3D. Which, doing so one year after another, we were already looking at Jedi 3D happening in like 2017, so Last Crusade 3D wouldn't be until roughly 2020? oooooh! can't wait! /sarcasm
-
I've a feeling by that time it will be a new techno fad and they won't even bother.

I mean they did it to raider for the DVD. the scene where the truck goes off the road. Tell me Lucipia wont fuck with the movie some mo.
-
There's a fairly new torrent set of the original Indy movies in 1080p floating around. They look absolutely beautiful and they're commercial free and unedited, unlike the previous 720p rips that have been around for a few years. I think downloading these is fair game, because it's not like the blu-rays will be available any time soon (though I'll be buying them the day they eventually do come out). In the meantime, these 1080p torrents are amazing, with that beautiful film grain fully intact. I have a hard time imagining the blu-rays will look any better.
-
A good old fridge nuking might be a better use of 3D than the many scenes of Mutt Williams combing his hair, though the hair care scenes could be pretty wild to see in IMAX 3D.
-
If this 3D phase means seeing some kickass classics on the big tarp with a sold-out midnite crowd, it was worth it
-
better to stay at home and wait for the DVD, than sit in the cinema with an ever increasing bunch of chatting, eating, cellphone using, morons.
-
I know that Raiders on the big screen is good no matter what...but is this really necessary? there were barely even any effect in Raiders...do we really need 3D Salah chatting with Indy about digging?<p> this movie wasn't a big effects spectacle, it was a true adventure movie. and as such, it relies almost wholly on practical effects. so where is the draw for a 3D conversion?<p> fuck...I am fast becoming a 3D curmudgeon, against my will. I know it is the future and can be utilized well and blah blah blah, but do we really need to convert EVERY big movie from my childhood? aren't there enough shitty animated movies on the horizon to keep everyone happy?<p> I really don't want to be the grumpy anti-3D grampa, but Raiders? really?
-
AICN editors are the laziest editors in the biz. Forward a link before doing the necessary research, publishing it as "a rumour" with a blurb, and not retracting it when it's proven false.
-
In Raiders, Dr. Jones was very skeptical about all the hocus-pocus. He didn't really buy any of it until he saw it with his own eyes. This entire characterization is screwed up by Temple of Doom, where he most certainly experienced a lot of weird shit, supposedly just a year before the events of Raiders. How can a guy who's been through a Thuggee death ritual and saved magic stones be so skeptical of of similarly unbelievable biblical hocus-pocus?
-
... really worth seeing in 3D? I guess the ghost scene at the end of Raiders but otherwise.... (I think I'll stick with my DVDs on this one).
-
A two-fisted iconic adventurer who relies on his smarts and courage to save the day! Temple of Doom is ultimate Jones.
-
“This is completely false. Right now, we are totally focused on bringing Star Wars to 3-D, and we have no plans to do an Indiana Jones conversion.” Learn to fact check before you copy, and paste. Also I'm surprised you didn't put the work BADASS in there. FAIL.
-
Temple of Poon > Kingdom of Crystal Skull Fucks And Raiders will ALWAYS be supreme
-
Simply re-release it in 2D and not in sucky post-processed 3D, suckers!
-
But I wouldn't mind seeing old 3D films like 'Dial M for Murder' or 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' re-released in the new 3D. Do the elements needed to do this still exist? (I wouldn't want to see flat prints 'converted' to 3D)

I saw AVATAR in 3D and decided that was my last 3D movie. I don't like the medium and really think it adds very little to the experience. In fact, I spent the first 20 minutes of AVATAR with a headache and a general annoyance for the 3D. After a while you just kind of forget about it. And the very fact that these theaters have the unmitigated gall to charge up to $18 per ticket in our area for 3D is a complete turn off (regular tickets of $11 are too expensive as it is).</p> <p> I'll be glad when 3D is gone. Personally, because of the recent price hike, I don't see movies at the theater any more. I've just had enough of the greed and I don't mind waiting for NetFlix or DVD (I like watching movies at home on my own big screen much better anyway). The only people dumb enough to pay these fees are teenagers and hardcore movie buffs (a.k.a. suckers).

Only a matter of time before Indy is rebooted
by BP_drills_america_a_new_asshole
Lucas is planning a new trilogy set in the 1930s with a new actor as Indy (or Harrison Ford mocapped). I called it biatches.
-
i saw avatar and toy story both of them I thought were empty technological eye candy. especially ts3. I think its those real 3d glasses. they need to redesign the glasses. during avatar I kept taking them off and putting them back on again and same thing happened with ts3.
-
Yes, 3D is for suckers. I think most people are beginning to skip it since the novelty has worn off. AVATAR made the big bucks from 3D, so everyone else is a Johnny-come-lately to the party. Anymore, it's obvious that it has nothing to do with the "art" and everything to do with the money.</p> <p> Sorry, but I'm not about to add to their bottom line...especially when the movies - like AVATAR (yeah, I said it) - are derivative dreck!
-
I EXPECT A FEW CGI EWOKS TO BE ADDED
-
No need to spoil it.
-
I don't think Raiders in 3D will work on a purely technical level. The film stock that was used to shoot Raiders had a grainy quality to it, which added wonderfully to the texture of the Mideast setting. They also used soft filters common to the late 70s and early 80s. Transforming the film into 3D will either look awful or require some very vulgar digital alterations. This news might just kill Douglas Slocombe. The other films in the series might work though. By the time Temple was made, Speilberg had scaled back on the style to make his movies more TV friendly (its hard to remember that back in the 1970s, The Berg was frequently compared to David Lean for his mastery of wide-screen compositions).

Convert the Lumiere Bros Train Arraving at Station to 3D!!!
by ricarleite2
This is pointless - why would I want to watch a crappy converted version of a movie I love? It has a fake sense of depth to it. Great.
-
If it wasn't 3-D, it would be some other reason. He won't change. It has become his nature to do this sort of thing. I love Raiders and would pay good money to see a pristine print of THE ORIGINAL. I won't be seeing this.

PIECE OF SHIT, HARRY! PIECE OF SHIT!

...on the big screen again, it's fine.<P>I'm not sure if this rumour is true or not, but I DO know that Lucasfilm tells lies and dishes out disinformation regularly. So don't dismiss this happening just 'cos they've issued a denial...<P>I'm all for seeing old favourites on the big screen again, even if they need to converted to 3D for the powers-that-be to make it happen. It's the fact that we've ended up paying exhorbitant price rises for 3D releases that pisses me off, not the idea of 3D itself. Except for BAD 'conversions' by certain 'incompetent' companies of course.
-
and use only one eye to see for the rest of your lives.well?
-
...in 3D on the big screen please?
-
mainly because it was just trying to damn hard in the action and the gross out department. Hey, we're going down in a plane with no chutes so lets free fall for miles in a raft and then hit some white water rapids...dumb. In my book Indy would never waste his time with some dumb fucking rocks. The only thing worth a damn in the flick is Short Round
-
I can't get onboard this idea.
-
I never knew Temple was a prequel (the first of that time?) For story it did not seem to matter. Correct me if I am wrong.
-
imagine the boulder rolling in 3D, the mine cart in 3D, the bridge in temple of doom in 3D, list goes on
-
I was worried about that happening during our showing of BTTF. There's nothing I hate more than people hollering simply to be heard during classic film re-showings. Once at the start and during the end is great, but all throughout is not genuine emotion, it's fucking tardery by morons who should stay the fuck home and whoop and yell at their tv. Our showing was great. People cheered a bit at the start during the Universal logo, then at the end everyone clapped. The rest of the film elicited natural laughs etc. Such a great experience seeing it on the big screen again.
-
Temple of Doom takes place in 1935, Raiders in 1936. Character discrepancies notwithstanding.
-
I will most likely see Raiders but not the rest. I was watching Raiders last night on EPIXHD and it is still awesome. Just as "silly" as the others but amazing. Instead of Nuke The Fridge you loser haters should be saying "Ride The Sub."
-
Don't see why people are getting upset about this? If you don't like 3D, don't go and watch it. Just watch your dvd at home. Simple. They're just presenting it in a different medium, the films themselves aren't being altered.
-
You can't compare the riding the sub scene with the fridge nuke scene. You simply can't. The sub COULD have stayed on the surface, or Indy COULD have gotten into the sub somehow. We aren't privy to the solution and it works that way. The Fridge Nuke scene? Christ, not only would the blast most likely have killed him, the fall from that height would have fucked him up. It was just too much. Now, that being said, the visual of Indy standing in front of the mushroom cloud to showcase the nuclear age? That was pretty.
-
If you all think about it, Raiders would make a great 3D movie, but the rest of 'em no.
-
And I thought all the remakes were making Hollywood look creativly bankrupt...
-
I agree..but it is not a fact, it is a subjective opinion. Saying "FACT" make you seem like dick.
-
i hate that piece of shit
-
I know it's Tron Legacy but it wouldn't fit in the subject line. Anyway, getting to see Raiders again in a real theater (not in an arthouse in Los Angeles) will be a treat. Yay!
-
It felt like a rehash of the first one.
-
Any chance they'll edit out Kate Capshaw, replace her with a real actress that can... you know actually act and wasn't just sleeping with Speilberg?
-
What does Indy have to gain in three dimensions? The only thing I can think of is when the spirits are released from the ark at the end of Raiders! This is just another attempt to squeeze juice out of a dried lemon, as Henry Jones, Sr. once said, "Let it go!"
-
was an opulent, exotic feast of heroic action adventure in the pulp style!

Anyone who prefers Last Crusade over Raiders is NOT an Indy fan
by SierraTangoFoxtrotUniform
-
Simply, the most entertaining (especially for kids!) Raiders and Last Crusade can teeter on the edge of boring during some parts. TOD is just pure fun from beginning to end. From the falling raft to the runaway mine cart, TOD has a fun factor that the other Indy flicks don't have.
-
Editing for 3D films takes into account the time the eyes need to adjust to different focal lengths. between scenes. 2D action films translated to 3D are difficult to watch. This is a bad idea.
-
I just love all the Indiana Jones movies, that's all.
-
But seriously, that would have been awful. I remember seeing a promotional poster of Raiders in my local movie theater with Tom Selleck on it. It was months before the movie came out. I remember thinking it looked lame.
-
...was awesome, despite its flaws. <p> If you can't see this, you suck.
-
...fuck this 3D noise.
-
IF they could pull off a good conversion (which as of this time none of the conversions are even adequate) I'd be there in a heartbeat. I'm just thinking that 3D conversion is doomed to failure; leave the format to native 3D and animated movies, and bury 3D conversion next to colorization in the graveyard of piss-poor ideas.
-
I can pass on Crusade. But I've long wondered why certain classics--like Raiders--haven't already been converted to 3D and returned to the cinema. I've long wanted to go see the movie in the theater again, and I've seen it often enough that the 3D would add a nice "extra" something new to the experience. <br><br> Then, I want to see the original Tron converted to 3D (that would be a great film for 3D, and the computer world, free of rain and dust and smoke, would be pretty dang awesome). The Back To the Future Trilogy in 3D. I'd go see all of those. I intend to see New Hope, Empire and Return--whether I get to them all, I don't know. My oldest daughter will be 19 when Return comes out. <br><br>Temple of Doom was indeed awesome, despite its only flaw (Kate Capshaw).
-
Raiders is incredible. Temple was great. No wonder not everybody thinks it stands up. But, taken by itself, it would still be considered a very, very good movie. Only compared to Raiders and Temple does it seem lame.
-
Well, the first hour, anyway. Top notch directing on Senor Speilbergo's part, I thought.
-
I loved ET. I'd definitely go catch it in 3D. Maybe Last Starfighter? I don't think I'd go see a conversion of all the Harry Pottery movies into 3D. Wrath of Kahn--yeah, I'd probably go see a 3D conversion of that.
-
That is all.

...won't work properly if you watch the films in chronological order.

But nowhere near the perfection of Raiders. TOD is a fun movie and I still enjoy watching it...I seem to recall a 4th film in the series but I think I may have blocked that out of my memory. I tend to do that with traumatic experiences!
-
3D stinks.
-
No? Okay. This is a pointless money grab. Theaters in LA at least show these movies on the big screen already. The 3D will be shit as usual so no interested. I'm not a 3D hater I just hate conversion it sucks pretty much %100 of the time. If done right it can be fun but so far only what two movies have done it right.

...Sweet fucking Jesus, STOP THIS SHIT!!!! Do you fucking philistines have no fucking shame? They're obviously completely disregarding the time-honored wisdom of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it 'til it is"...I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD.... If they feel the need to reboot, though, Josh Holloway and Evangeline Lily would be perfect casting as Indy and Marion.

As much of a Star Wars and Indy nerd as I am, I simply cannot get it up for these 3-D rereleases.<br> <br>If you want to re-release them to theaters every few years or so, fine, I have NO problem with that. But leave them in their pure state, don't go adding in 3D gimmickry to make it appealing to a "new audience". These movies have stood on their own just fine through several generations now without any gimmicks and they will continue to do so for several more.<br> <br>Don't worry George and Stephen, you'll still get your money, it's ok guys, no need for this song and dance.

-
Arguably the best hair on a man ever is River Phoenix's Young Indy in Last Crusade.
-
That gag in TOD where Indy is missing his gun doesn't make much sense if it happens chronologically before Raiders' Cairo scene. Oh! and Raiders was hands down the best, and while TOD and Crusade were good too, they had flaws. The fourth movie never happpened.

But Indiana Jones in a theatre, possibly surrounded by many people who are seeing it for the first time? Um, fuck yes?

They still liked the idea of Indy maybe ending up with marion and didn't wnat to screw up that idea (not yet having any specific plans for the third film at that time.) <p> But, ToD was not a true prequel. Indy was meant to be like the old serials and that adventure happen to take place before the Raiders one. You can't look at it like the SW prequels, which exist (supposedly...in theory) to set up events in the original Trilogy.
-
Shai could finally get the role he was born to play.
-
Fuck 3D
-
I saw this in the comments over at Blue Sky Disney and thought it was interesting: "This story is accurate no matter what the naysayers scream. Blue Sky got it right for the most part. Here is what went down. The high-ups at Lucasfilm have been going around Hollywood for the last couple months seeking bids for conversion of the Indy films. The goal has or at least was, for them to make some form of an announcement next month. That may or may not happen now. It was supposed to be a surprise that Blue Sky broke. It is going forward, the plan is still to release them like the Star Wars films. The Lucasfilm spokesperson was towing the company line. Either they haven't kept her in the lupe or she's spinning. Perhaps she'd like to explain those Lucasfim Executives that were seen at several 3D conversion houses over the past month. Trust me, they weren't there to talk about Star Wars." Sounds like someone on the inside. It may not be announced next month, but I have a feeling that it will be announced in the near future, like 2011 probably.

But fuck this 3d bulllshit.

Could forrestal from raiders be the dude that gave indy the hat in last crusade?

-
Each movie had silly/outrageous parts but that is what makes them Indy movies. Hell, in Raiders, he breaks through a wall in the well of souls and pops out of a bunker at an airport. Who cares? They all rock. The only reason TOD is so low on the scale for me is that (when I 1st saw it as a kid) I hated that Marion wasn't the main woman and even to this day Kate Capshaw completely sucked. She took the mood out of every scene she was in.
-
Saving Private Ryan and War Of The Worlds, bing, bang, boom, one after another this year on Blu, then ... nothing?

For THIS I DO say thank you George!

Make a film that I'll love more than any Indy or Star Wars...oh boo hoo, you weren't given the opportunity. Fuck you, you impotent piece of shit. Or instead of taking that, go make something better, your comments here will do nothing to motivate people to change to your will....you need to create for yourself. Be your own hero. Make the world in your vision. Lucas and Speilberg did in theirs. Now its your turn you fucking fucks.
-
I am not going to see it in 3D, but if somehow a 2D theater also is allowed to show it, I would gladly go. The other three, nah... not a big deal for me.

Would be cool to have them in a theater, but putting out Indy 4 again so soon is just silly anyhow. They should have put the previous three in theaters again leading up to Indy 4's release, actually.

No. The answer is no.
-
i would gladly pay to see a large # of films again. there are plenty i never saw in theaters to begin with, and good 3D (and i mean really, really, really GOOD, hollywood fuck-ups) would be icing.
