The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day will cost you sweat, tears and perhaps a little blood.

Published at:  Oct 26, 2010 2:59:10 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!

Of course I had to follow-up yesterday’s Nosferatu remake picture with one from the original 1922 silent film. I received this still right before posting yesterday’s Nosferatu pic, so I’d like to think that The Great Pumpkin is watching out for all of its little boils and ghouls during this festive holiday season!

Now this particular shot isn’t exactly super behind the scenes-y. There are no cameras, no crew, just one of the creepiest fucking actors in one of the creepiest fucking make-ups of all time taking a load off.

This is by far the scariest of all the Halloween BTS images and, I believe, further proof to back up the historical accuracy of the great, underappreciated SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE. Max Schreck was a real life vampire. No man “lounges” like that.

Thanks to reader Russell for sending the image in!

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.

Tomorrow’s Behind the Scenes Pic leaves vampires behind and moves on to Martians. See ya’ then!

    The creepiest

    by dukeroberts

There is something about the grainy black and white in Nosferatu that makes it seem more realistic, and therefore scarier, than any other vampire movie. Schreck was magnificent. I have seen Shadow of the Vampire several times and love it. I don't understand the hate that movie is getting.

    Max Schreck - real "vampire"?

    by idrinkyourmexicancoke

I read somewhere that they can find no records or "crew" who remember doing any "prosthetic make-up work on Shrek for Nosferatu. He just showed up that way everyday and was totally fuckin creepy. Kinda like Daniel Day Lewis playing an unhappy Sloth. who occassionally kills people.

I thought that the constant pop culture references were obvious, random, and unfunny; and Eddie Murphy's character lapsed into black-face racism.

    To clear up the myth

    by urbansamurai

Of course Schreck was NOT a vampire. He was a theatre actor and only appeared in one more movie besides “Nosferatu“. I can't remember the title (only saw a still with Schreck in it), but it was also a german production. He died with only 56, but to that point had appeared in 725 (!!) different roles and characters. If anyone likes to see him in other roles (Like Chaney mostly in heavy makeup) and also without any make-up at all, looky here http://www.max-schreck.com/

I remember an '80s SNEAK PREVIEWS episode where Siskel and Ebert discussed their favorite horror movies. They showed a grainy clip of NOSFERATU, and it scared the shit out of me. Murnau's NOSFERATU beats Tod Browning's DRACULA to a pulp.
