Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day… Yoooouuu baasssstttaaarrrdddd…

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic! We’ve had a couple of days of classy Universal style monsters. Now it’s time to camp things up a little bit around here! Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator is a film that feels very homemade. The sets are kinda cheap, the supporting cast aren’t really good at… um… acting… But the flick makes up for all that in a few key ways. Firstly, Jeffrey Combs is a God as Herbert West. If I had to pick, I’d say his Agent Dammers from THE FRIGHTENERS is my favorite performance of Combs’, but Herbert West is undoubtably his most iconic. So, he’s great. David Gale plays a good heavy, even when he spends most of the movie acting as a pissed off severed head. Funny story, a good buddy of mine threw his vote away in 2004 by voting Third Party because he hated Bush and said Kerry reminded him too much of Gale as Dr. Hill from Re-Animator. True story. Most importantly Re-Animator has an over-abundance of fun. It’s a cup runneth over with entertainment. This movie is just so goddamn easy to watch just thinking back on it now makes me want to pop in the DVD. Here’s the pic for today, featuring three versions of Mr. David Gale playing Dr. Carl Hill. Enjoy!

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here. Tomorrow’s Behind the Scenes Pic is having a fit. Which one? Why the one that bit the cow, of course. -Quint Follow Me On Twitter

Not voting for a major party candidate is NOT throwing away your vote. Voting for whoever you believe is the best candidate is what matters; that is the American way. Granted, your friend's reason for voting 3rd party is stupid, but seeing the phrase "throw away your vote" in response to voting for the unlikely candidate always pisses me off. God Bless America. *Salutes, exits stage right.*

"Re-Animator" is perhaps my favorite 80's horror film. I love the dark humor and the over the top gore. Plus, it's one of those rare horror films where the performances are the highlights of the film. Jeffrey Combs and David Gale's wonderful performances make the film even more enjoyable than it already is.

Before this gets out of control

    by Quint

The friend didn't like Kerry's viewpoints, has always been an independent, but couldn't vote for Bush. And yes, Kerry gave him the willies because he always saw Kerry as the dude from Re-Animator. If he agreed with him politically then he would have voted for Kerry.

As for a multiple party system, I'm in total agreement. If there was a party that had the compassion of the democrats, the drive of the Republicans and a whole lot more common sense than in either party I'd be all for it.

Ultimately, I brought it up only because it's funny and you can't deny that John Kerry shares quite a resemblance with Dr. Hill.

    by dpc01

I actually didn't care much for Re-Animator when it came out - I thought it was too slow during the non-effects scenes. I later thought that From Beyond was a big improvement in terms of just being interesting and professional. But I watched them both again just recently and was surprised to enjoy Re-Animator much more now - I just found the tone to be more unique, and, as has been stated, more character-driven. I still like From Beyond, though. And I agree that Comb's best role was in The Frighteners, which is saying a lot considering he's memorable in pretty much everything.

  • Oct. 24, 2010, 5:17 p.m. CST

The Re-Animator was awesome, but don't forget From Beyond as wel

    by laguna_loire

Another class HP Lovecraft adaptation (used loosely), the late '80's gave birth to some truly brilliant horrors!! Does anyone know, if the truly pukefully nasty film that is Street Trash is available on DVD?

  • Oct. 24, 2010, 5:26 p.m. CST

    by UGG

Never seen the movie but recently read H.P. Lovecrafts great Reanimator short, is it in anyway similar?

  • Oct. 24, 2010, 5:33 p.m. CST

    by BarryConvex

Yes. Synapse Films released "Street Trash" on DVD a couple of years ago. Also, "From Beyond" is an underrated classic. *Spoilers* The scene where Combs' character sucks Stuart Gordon's wife's brains through her eye socket is wonderfully fucked up.

    by Disgustipitated

would have to be his very first turn as Weyoun, the vorta overseer of the group of stranded Jem-Hadar rescued by the Defiant on DS9. They end up teaming up together in an operation to stop a group of renegade Jem-Hadar. Love the episode. Combs would return as clones of Weyoun later, but that initial performance was always the best to me. Love his subtle facial expressions and the bottled emotion.

...but Re-Animator is one of my all-time favorite movies. Every thing about this film is perfect. The horror, the comedy and all just mesh together. I showed this movie to my girlfriend a couple weeks ago and she thought it was disgusting because of the..."head" scene. This movie basically set me out on a personal journey to view all of Comb's films and I have been witness to a few of his faults (Re-Animator 3, which was a terrible film no matter what anyone says) and many of his good roles. I love this movie. Hope to see many more BOTS pics of it! :)

Anyone ever see it? It is mostly crap but it has a re-animated severed penis fighting a rat. That alone makes it worth seeing. Also whatever happened to the proposed 4th film HOUSE OF RE-ANIMATOR? It was going to star William H Macy has the President of the U.S. Who dies in office and is re-animated by Dr. West in exchange for a pardon. Sounds like DAVE but with gore.

Nobody I know can understand why let alone like it all that much, so it's really nice to feel the love for it here! I spent $50 getting the Millennium Edition DVD in Australia many years ago just to see the 'head giving head' scene and extras, since the VHS was always cut to shit in Irish stores. Worth every penny for the amount of times i've watched it since. Then I shelled out again when it was repackaged with artwork and a syringe highlighter. Yes I am a nerd. What'll they do? Embalm me?
