Learn Which LOST Vet Serves As JUSTIFIED’s Season-Two Villain!! Hint: Not That Hurley Guy!!

Published at: Oct. 21, 2010, 11:36 p.m. CST

I am – Hercules!! The great Jeremy Davies, who played time-hopping physicist Daniel Faraday on “Lost,” has been cast as a key season-two villain on FX’s “Justified,” last season’s best new series. Davies will play Dickie Bennett, a marijana kingpin who still bears a crippling injury inflicted by a teen Raylan Givens. Davies’ big-screen credits include “Spanking The Monkey,” “Twister,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Secretary,” “Solaris,” “Rescue Dawn” and “It’s Kind of A Funny Story.” Boyd Crowder, the season-one villain played by Walton Goggins, is now a good guy thanks to his embrace of Our Savior Jesus Christ. “Justified’s” 13-episode second season launches in February. That really cool character with all the time-travel alternate-reality theories that were building to something brilliant all throughout Lost Season 6... something like a really cool science-fiction climax (which Lost had been heading purposefully and superbly towards since the whole Dharma Days '70s japes) which would have made complete dramatic and narrative sense as both a conclusion and explosive climax until... until... It was revealed a gigantic waste-of-season COCKTEASE because the writers PUSSIED OUT AND SERVED UP A USESS, SHITTY ENDING and an even worse bullshit coda to explain a season's worth of story. Yes. I'm still fucking bitter alright? Five seasons of never-bettered tv, shat on by a complete clusterfuck of a sixth.

    by darquelyte

I believe that was supposed to read "season-two" villain. He's a decent enough actor, but he doesn't "look" like someone who would be in that neck of the woods. BTW, the season finale was probably the best season finale of ANY series in the last few years.

I usually find him annoying and mannered in most of his roles (e.g. Ravenous, Solaris), but it's Justified, so the showrunners know what they're doing. But no way is Boyd a "good" guy now...not entirely

I have to be honest, Raylan is one of the best characters on TV......but if you would have made an argument at the end of last season that Boyd was an even better, cooler, more interesting character, I'm not saying I would have agreed, but I wouldnt have tried to talk you out of it. Also, the single best season finale of any show in years, the ultimate in bad ass, ass whipping payoff.

    by Dancon7

There's only been 13 episodes. I don't think it's been set in stone what kind of show it is. I mean, for the first half of season one, the stories were mostly self-contained. There wasn't a real story arc until later in the season. Olyphant is awesome as Raylan Givens. That's pretty much all that's been established.

...after having to seeing Charlie Hunnam's ass multiple times on Sons of Anarchy, FX should require a Ava nude scene to even things out a bit. Davies, Boyd and Raylen..

    by mcgillj

I LOVE the show.. I was never into "Deadwood" I actually thought Olyphant was a great actor outside of them.. his manic crazy Mickey in "Scream 2" (I thought he was hysterical.. and just "got" the tone), his drug dealer in "Go" and his skeevy porn actor turned director in "The Girl Next Door" (go ahead and blast me but he was the BEST part of that movie.. even though I STILL do enjoy it, for the Risky Business clone it is). But Walton Goggins.. what can you say? after that HEARTBREAKING awesome arc on the final season of "The Shield".. to this? just.. whoa. I mean granted.. he's playing a similar country character.. but something in the casting, just makes me think that Boyd is NOT the good guy he appears to be.although physically speaking when I read some of Leonard's books.. I always pictured (and Goggins would fit this mold too) someone more like Nick Searcy, Steve Buscemi.. kind of balding. and well, to be honest, kind of goofy looking. I could have sworn that was in "Pronto" even.. I just remember very distinctly thinking Steve Buscemi as Raylen. (this was in '97 or so I was thinking this). Can't wait to see what they cook up for season 2.. I liked the "of the week" stories, cause it fits just the life of the character.. and they had some GREAT guest stars, Alan Ruck though being my favorite.

    by I am_NOTREAL

Sorry, it was also about Thermos bottle caps / butt plugs holding in something or the other. I get your point, but the mythological underpinnings of the story were ultimately so hazily, lazily sketched in that the total effect was undermined. In other words, Cuse and Lindelof wanted to be both specific about the details they could fully envision, and vague about the rest, and the result is always gonna be dissatisfying to a lot of people. It bespeaks creators with much less than full control of their creation. I didn't hate it as much as a lot, but it could've been much, much better. And thus ends my last ever statement on Lost.

...and there was Davies, even then playing his usual "frazzled grad student" role. Guy still looks the same, too... exactly the same as if those 16 years had been only 1 or 2. Weird. Philip Seymour Hoffman was there, too as the "party animal grad student". PSH, though, looks like he's lived 2 years for every one of those 16. But Helen Hunt... damn... she looks like something Dr. Hawas dug up out of an ancient Egyptian tomb at this point. Sad, really. Oh, and btw: the Lost finale killed the entire series. I can never even watch one of the good episodes again, and I've tried. It remains to be seen whether I can ever watch anyone who ever had a role in Lost in anything else ever again as well.

    One last time on LOST

    by theGoldbergV

My problem with the LOST ending is: I DON'T BUY IT.

Sayid meeting Shannon in Heaven rather than Nadia, Rose entering the afterlife with Locke after repeatedly saying she wanted nothing to do with him, Charlie regressing back into druggie state, Juliet "imagining" being married to Jack and having a kid, Aaron being a baby again, Saywer and Miles being cops, the Island being sunk FOR NO REASON AT ALL, Christian Shepherd being an actual shepherd of Christians, but most of all, that all the characters can "create" this group consciousness for them all to "meet up and move on" without ANY explanation of why, how, or whether it has anythng whatsoever to do with the Island. There's no logical story reason for the sideways to begin with the plane landing OTHER than to misdirect the audience for a whole season. Bringing back characters like Keamy, Faraday and Charlotte was more misdirection. Arrrgh, months later and it still pisses me off.

For me it doesn't matter that Jack's story finished on Island quite well, or that some of the reunion scenes in the finale were quite affecting, because that final resolution was so mind-numbingly stupid it destroyed any positivity I had for the final season. LOST: five good/great seasons and one load of shite

And I'm not even touching on the golden cave or magic Island protector spells

    by Thunderbolt Ross

Putting aside how incredibly overrated Saving Private Ryan is in general, I always hated his stupid character. Just way overdone in the Spielbergian fashion. Steve has his strong points and his weak points and one of the weak points is his overselling shit at times in a way that would make Oliver Stone blush. The scene with Davies's character mewling and pussing out was just ludicrously over-the-top.
