News Corp., Which Reported Megan Fox Had Signed To Play Catwoman, Now Reports Brandon Routh Could Play SUPERMAN For Zack Snyder!
I am – Hercules!!
British tabloid News of the World reports that Zack Snyder (“Watchmen”) is considering returning “Superman Returns” star Brandon Routh to the role of Clark Kent in Snyder’s upcoming new Man of Steel movie, the one being produced by “Dark Knight” writer-director Christopher Nolan.
But can News Of The World, owned by News Corp., be trusted?
The tabloid has been described as sister publication to News Corp.’s The Sun, which reported on Aug. 26, 2009 that Megan Fox had signed to play Catwoman in Nolan’s next Batman movie.
Megan Fox’s publicist quickly issued a statement indicating she had not signed to play Catwoman in Nolan’s next Batman movie:
Megan is a huge fan of the Batman movies and of director Christopher Nolan but these discussions have not taken place.
Thank you for checking.
“Dark Knight” producers subsequently confirmed that Nolan has not contacted Fox about the role.
So if any journalists out there are still interviewing Snyder about “Legend of the Guardians,” kindly ask if he really indicated to News of the World that he’s considering returning Routh to the blue tights.

We'll see.

I actually thought he was a great choice for "Returns" He was the best part of that movie.
-
News Corps should shut the hell up and learn a little about real journalism...bad enough they own Fox News and allow their employees rail against Muslims and Islam...all while taking investor money from..wait for it...Muslims; IE A Saudi Prince. Just more awesome hypocrisy from the rich asshats in the US.
-
You stole my glory!
-
And 4th is the new Gay.
-
Nothing pleases me more here then to shut down the "first" posters. :D
-
Nothing wrong at all...I think he was the best thing about the turd that was Superman returns...Synder - rumour or not - cast Brandon and be done with it.
-
Routh I thought actually did an OK job with Supes. As for Megan Fox in anything, I could care less... talentless hack that she is.
-
...then it ain't true.
-
Dont believe that shitty rag!
-
"Superman's early years" <p>-Zack Snyder.
-
If given the chance to play Superman again,I just hope he moves away from doing a Christopher Reeve impression and is allowed to make the character his own. Still hoping for a WWII Era/period piece Superman film.....Yeah I'll keep dreaming.
-
Edgar Wright made an oblique tweet to this the other day. Maybe something in it.

apparantly Snyder was asked about Routh in an interview..
by Righteous Brother
and basically said, that he'd no idea there was such a groundswell of support for Routh out there until recently, and that they'd certainly consider it.
-
That guy is is a beast now.
-
now writes a column for that shitty rag . His hack writer daughter, Cecelia Ahern (p.s I love you/Samantha who.. shudder…)acclaim is owed to her fathers former position as Irish PM. Prick.<p> People who read the NOTW are the biggest idiots in the world.<p> No wonder the world is in the state its in.<P> Help me out here emeraldboy!
-
Routh was not the problem in Superman Returns. The story was the problem. Also the fact that it pretended to be like the Donnor films. I don't mind Routh playing Superman as long as they ignore all the other movies.
-
He was fine in the first one. So was Langilalala (or whatever) as the Perry White character. And the airplane crash sequence was a 'perfect' Superman action sequence. Kevin Spacey was okay as Luthor, but we don't need another Lex Luthor story. As for the rest of Returns...ugh.
-
Cast him and Bryan Singer can at least say he did one good thing for the Superman franchise.
-
they are british tabloids so the chance is that all these are POS manufactered news to sell newspapers and magaziens.
-
PLEASE HIRE BACK MR ROUTH FOR SUPERMAN.HE WAS THE BEST THING IN SR,HE DID A GREAT JOB AS SUPERMAN.HIRE HIM AND I AM NOT GOING TO WATCH THE MOVIE IN MY PC,I WILL GO IN A CINEMA,I PROMISE.
-
They're so powerful now, it's scary.
-
is not just a newspaper. its part of media group that wants to destroy british democracy and bring down parliament. News of the worlds former editor is at the very center of power in the uk. while he was ed of news of the world andy coulson presided over a phone hacking scandal that resulted in the former royal corresponded ending up in prison because he hacked the phones of the royal family while he worked for the news of the world. There was a committe set up and one of those who was called to give evidence was Rebbakah brookes. News international told the head of the committee that if that if they as much as suponeda her they would print stuff about him in thier newspaper. this undermined the committee. when murdoch supported new labour, anyone who dared speak ill of blair in the labour party were threatened by his flunkies. murdoch has created an air of fear in the house of commons.
-
A sad state of affairs.
-
If they get Routh back, every fan of the previous films will be watching it, 100 percent. In other words, a hit. Lose Routh and for the mentioned fans, it's like, who cares anymore.
-
Or The Sun. I'm totally up for Routh as Supes again though.
-
Nolan and Snyder already stated so many times that this is a FRESH take on the character. Enough playing with the Donnerverse.
-
Routh really was this generation's Christopher Reeve. It's not his fault that the movie was slow and dull, that's the director's fault.
-
they produce entertainment in the guise of 'news'. Fox news is a case in point...entertainment for whining conservatives and dickheads.
-
The Sun and News of The World are the worst kind of tabloid crap. most of what they say is lies and everything else is inacurate. just like all of the shit Rupurt Murdock produces it is dumbed down and devoid of anything true. sorry i had to get that off my chest

Tom Welling and Erica Durance should DEFINETLY get this gig...
by deano velvet
Iknow a lot of you guys don't like him but seriously have you seen the last 2 seasons of smallville, the guy is most definetly this generations Superman. I emplore you to watch "Homecoming" the 200th episode the bit in the future! There is the perfect lois and clark. I know smallville was shit around it's 5th to 7th season but it has really come on since the creators left. I know the show will end with him in the suit probably the last shot. Grr. For me i'll feel robbed not to see him in Synders movie. I'm not asking for a smallville movie the smallville connection can be played down or not mentioned at all.
-
This is the best news I've heard about the next Superman movie since Nolan came on board. God I hope it's true. :D Routh deserves to be this generation's Superman.
-
if what Snyder said about the theme of the new movie,is true, then we are talking about a smallvile-like rebooted Superman movie franchise.and Welling is the safe choice to guide it.
-
Yes!!
-
and Michelle Pfeiffer's will play her beloved mother.
-
For those outside the UK, The News Of The World is a shoddy newspaper with extremely lazy journalism. I'd take anything reported within that tabloid with a pinch of salt.
-
And...
-
I think he did a good job on Chuck last season, I wouldn't be against seeing him as Superman again. They just need a decent script and villain this time around.
-
He's fuckin' awesome as Superman. To recast the role would suck no end of balls.
-
I'm not against Routh at all I think he did a great job in a poor movie, it's just for me i've seen what Routh can do i'd like to see what Welling can do on the big stage!
-
Unless you want to bury Superman.
-
bitchy. saucer of milk for Hercules
-
The News of the World makes its money with huge mostly untrue page one headliners. Make a few million-pound/euro profits from the tens of thousands of morons who actually buy the paper. Then lose 1% of that money earned from the headline in liable claims, write a cheque, and repeat <P> Most of the victims of the liable story are rich celebrities that can afford to take the “news” paper to court. (br) They have named-and-shamed innocent people as paedophiles (along with real paedophiles) and have caused some of these people to be severely beaten up in the street and there houses vandalised. A lot of people in these cases don’t have the luxury of sending in the lawyers like Posh & Becks or Brad and Angelina. <p>
-
A decent actor can do nothing if his director has an appalling script, thinks Luthor is who fans want as a villain and has done nothing of any REAL worth since the Usual Suspects. His X-Men outings were passable, they're not the benchmark that anyone should use for super-hero material today. SUPER man...the clue is in the name...the action, the peril, the whole nine yards needs to be SUPER...we don't want exposition and touchy feely blatherings. Give the big S something to hit that will hit him back. We're still waiting for a true comicbook movie.
-
Movie who has the supes face. I wish supes face was CGI but ZS failed to make the lip play on CGI manhatten work. He would need some serious King James Cameron info to make it work all the time. No one really looks like supes with a perfect complexion. So that's why i wish the face was cgi I guess. But it would take a real talent to pull it off. Manhatten failed on the lip play, and even the new CGI CLU as far as we know has a lip jaw issue. Well in the last trailer he did, maybe it was fixed. Benjamin Button still holds the "Got it Right" award. I dont like Brandons face. It isn't Reeves it still looks too young to me. Superboy like.
-
Doesn't even bother to try anymore.
-
Then you can be 100% sure that it's utter bullshit.

Anyone from the UK could tell you, News of the World is shit
by V'Shael
Seriously, it's a disgrace of a tabloid. <br /><br />You guys at AICN should put together a small list of those UK papers whose rumours and "exclusives" in their 'Entertainment' sections can be safely discarded in the trashcan.<br /><br />The Sun, The Mirror, The Star, The News of the World. You could start with those 4 at least.
-
I'm not a huge fan of Nolan either, but let's see if he can't exec produce better than he directs ("Memento" being the exception to his rather unspectacular directing resume). And no more Lex Luthor, if you please. I thought Spacey was too over-the-top. Megan Fox would only be a good Catwoman in the next Batman film if Catwoman were both naked and mute.
-
He was the fkin nuts in the last one, best bit of casting since Chris Reeve. Got to use the John Williams music as well, its inseperable from Superman now and if you think anyone can compose anything more iconic than that your talking out of your crack. Get the balance right and dont give us another bland and forgettable superhero non-event movie. (i'm not ref to Superman Lives, i honestly thought that was good, it was like cold water in the face not having another punch out, video game ending)
-
The News of the World and The Sun are reprehensible pieces of crap – they’ve never been good but in recent years, as newspapers have become less and less relevant in a world of rolling 24 Hour News Channels and the Internet they have lost any semblance of journalistic intent at all. Both are designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and usually hit the mark with scandalous ‘expose’s’ on celebrities who have fucked a prostitute, had an affair, taken drugs or whatever. They do this with a fake air of ‘moral outrage’ but it is done because that’s what the people want (not all of them but enough to make these strong market leaders.) They both ‘decided’ who their readership should vote for in the last General Election and there was absolutely no hint of unbiased political reporting. They hack peoples phones and to find out the next ‘juicy scandal’ and quite frankly they are a blight on society.<p>They get their ‘Showbiz’ gossip by trawling websites and reporting forum scuttlebug as fact and they get as much right as they get wrong in these types of story but they still are horrible publications.
-
...no energy, no drive, no leading man quality as the Man of Steel. He was DULL. He might be OK as a lighting double or stand-in behind the scenes, but get someone else to play Superman on-screen.
-

Ummm, if you think Snyder is going to make less gay film...
by rbatty024
then you obviously haven't seen any of his work. I think it would be funny if a supposed straight man made a gayer Superman film than an actual gay man. Outside of gay porn, there is nothing more homoerotic than 300.
-
Oct. 19, 2010, 6:59 a.m. CST
If Snyder doesn't make Routh imitate Reeve again = OK by me.
by tylerzero
-
Lizzy is awesome! But I still think Jon Hamm is the best choice for Supes. The above would be impossible because of the age difference.
-
What the fuck are you talking about now!? Routh isn't gay, you crackhead. If he was then cool, because Superman is one of the campest superheroes out there. Are you saying that working with someone who is gay turns you gay? Child!
-
Epic fail.
-
I mean get creative Hollywood for crissakes.
-
Murdoch used to support Blair?
-
... albeit that bullshitty, "third way" Blair.
-
Smallville is a fucking HORRIBLE show. And while Welling is a nice puppy-dog like actor for a TV series, the Man of Steel he's not. He couldn't carry a film. Every bit of that show is a letdown and a joke. Doomsday? Yeah, that was memorable...christ...
-
I've been saying this for years, please, somebody listen to me!
-
I'm willing to bet these news aren't true and Chris will respond to it soon and deny it. News of the World is a tabloid. If they report it first, it probably isn't true. I won't believe anything until Christopher Nolan says something.
-
She's beautiful, she's talented, she even went to university to become a reporter.
-
You know what I mean...
-
Because Nolan is smart.
-
I don't want to see Catwoman as the villain and God help the franchise if that worn out stripper Fox were ever truly cast in the role...
-
..the abomination that was Superman Returns/Retreads.<p>He played a decent supes but(unfortunately) had to work with a lame script.(Baby Daddy subplot,a very useless bullet time effect, the rehash real estate scheme and not to mention an unimpressive Lex Luthor. And to otp it all off, the krypto Island with superman falling to earth arms extended like Jesus.)Yeah, he deserves a second chance ergo I'm all for the casting decision.
-
and even if i did, it would probably make up some other shit.<p>
-
He can't. Thus he will not be in the movie. I mean seriously, you think he can hold his own against the types of actors Nolan will get in this film? PLEEEEASE!
-

Routh is a TERRIBLE actor - Snyder is just fucking lazy
by Professor_Monster
If that walking piece of cardboard is put back in this movie will triple the suck factor - Snyder is already a poor choice for a director and now to hear he's in a such a rush he just needs to reuse damaged goods - fuck you assholes out there who consider Routh a good actor - just shows when you grew up
-
The Bond film? The media tycoon in that was as concerned with accuracy as Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp. If the News of the Screws told me the sun rose in the east, I'd want it fact-checked.
-
it doesn't matter to you wether or not Routh will once again star as the man of steel, because eventually your opinion of Zac's Superman will never change for the better.
-
I am sure both actors are DYING for the offers to come through...
-
The reason will continue to be Hollywood's general belief that such things "confuse" the idiotic populace who will see this and not understand why the story does not seem to continue from the last movie. In reality, I don't think people care. BUT, they may more logically think that people who didn't like the old flick will believe this is a sequel when they see a new actor.<p>Remember people, while all us geeks will see this movie knowing for years before that it is a reboot, but other people who see movies don't follow any of this stuff.
-
BUT.... <p> He needs to bulk up, and I mean a lot. he was a pretty good Chris Reeve clone down to the mannerisms which is a good thing. He's never going to steal it from Reeve but it's good move to get someone that the fans sort of recognise in Reeve back in the role. <p> At least Bryan Singer won't get a chance to play with his balls this time ;) <p> One of the set rumours :)
-
C'mon, we all know he will never be Supes in a movie. They just won't do it. I don't think he'd be a bad choice, but they won't do it, if only for the reasons to not choose Routh that I mentioned above.
-
Superman: Returns was okay, but Routh wasn't a good Superman. Get over yourselves.
-
some hidden Freudian desire there pal?
-
The idea here is to RESTART Superman from the ground up, not to retread anything, especially that piece of sh*t movie...
-

Its News Corp, owner of Fox News - not sure i believe them.
by impossibledreamers
-
Oct. 19, 2010, 7:54 a.m. CST
It's owned by Rupert Murdoch...
by HarryKnowlesNonExistentInceptionReview
...also the owner of Fox "News". It's likely total BS. News Corp has all the journalistic integrity and factual accuracy of a 16th century town crier... i.e.: little-to-none. Murdoch is to journalism what Harry Knowles is to lap band surgery.
-
Killik, there were many rumours from the set that sort of got a nod that they were right from the Lois actress. Bryan Singer is very openly gay and there was talk of Singer not being able to keep his hands off Routh while in costume, seems he liked to warm his hands around Rouths cock ;) <p> Of course it could be crap...
-
that I can think of. It surprises me that he was cast as Bats and not Supes in the dead JLA project. Jon Hamm would also be great, but at almost 40 is probably too old for the sequels you know the studio wants.
-
unless you have slept with Routh, next time keep the sycophancy to yourself.
-
....but I think it would be confusing/distracting for mainstream audiences to see him in the same role that has **nothing** to do with the role he played just a few years ago. Half would be thinking it is a sequel and the other half would just be lost.
-
The ONLY other work he's gotten is from fucktard nerds like Kevin Smith and whoever the hell did Scott Pilgrim - total dorks who cast him just so they can get their pic next to Thuperman on the set. What this movie needs is to be taken away from the hands of comic book children and given to those who know how to make big films that have real acting in them.
-
I noticed in your homophobic post you capitalised the word 'BUTT'. What's with that? Subconscious homosexual tendencies?
-
And Routh for Supes! That's 'win' in a bottle.
-
Returns was a car crash but when Supes was doing his thing he looked right for the role. Routh came across as a more wiry Chris Reeve clone which apart from the lack of bulk was ok. <p> As for Tom Welling..Hmmm, for me he's like Dean Caine, ok but forgettable
-
Killik, is that a response to me or the other bloke?
-
Give me one fucking scene where he "made you believe" for one second that he was fucking Superman - his looks got him a pass to make me think about Chris Reeve, sure, but he had NONE of Reeve's acting chops.
-
No actor can save movie material headed in the wrong direction. I've been saying that for years. "BATMAN AND ROBIN" had the talent but WOW, what a terrible movie that was doomed from the beginning. George Clooney could have been a great Bruce Wayne/Batman (and imagine if someone like James Cameron had made that flick, with the movie headed in the RIGHT direction). <P>I want to see Brandon Routh get his shot in a REAL Superman movie!
-
Now that he has a few more miles on him, Routh looks more like Superman than he did in 2006. All audiences have to do is ignore that stupid "deadbeat dad" take from the last movie and you're good to go.
-
Routh was the best thing to come out of SR! I think it would be smart to continue with him.
-
Routh as Kent was so so, no he does not have the acting skills that Chris had but the fact that many on here liked him just proves he was to many ok in the role.<p> The scene where he's in the bar with Jimmy just before he see's Lois is in danger was a pretty good take on the Reeve Kent. <p> Routh as Supes..<p> Not bad, not as many mannerisms and solidness that Reeve showed from the very start but not too shabby at all. The aircraft rescue scene when he comes on board was pretty good, enough Reeve and a bit of his own take. Sadly the story was dire, it lacked action and punch, I don't blame Routh for that.
-
Oct. 19, 2010, 8:19 a.m. CST
Returns had a lot of problems, but Routh wasn't one of them.
by Galactic
-
I don't give a flying shit if he juggles balls while dressed as the Queen, I also don't care if he's shagged every top model, my only thoughts are as him as Supes and thinking he's still right for the role.
-
If Reeves is "our" Superman, you will find no one better than Routh to play him.
-
OK. I'll fuck off now...
-
Dean Cain for....Toilet Man.....
-
That's my one worry, how Snyder will do the film, I liked 300, the action was great BUT it also seemed to be a homo erotic approach with girly men bad guys and guys covered in oil with six packs patting eachother a load. <p> Please don't do that to Supes mate, he's a mans mans!!!
-
As much hate as there is for Returns, the original Superman hasn't aged well at all. It was one of my favourite films as a kid. Reeve WAS Superman for me. The film viewed now? Ugh. Hackman is a fucking HORRIBLE Luthor. Ned Rape Victim Beatty is the Jar Jar Binks of the day, and Margot Kidder has all the sex appeal of one of Marge's sisters from the Simpsons. Reeve is the only reason that movie works (and the early scenes with Ma and Pa Kent). He sells it. Reeve coupled with Williams' score? Brilliant. That score is probably one of the best ever. I don't even consider the next 3 Superman films because they are filled with even more suck.
-

er Superman the Movie is about the golden age Superman Comics
by KilliK
as it is,it is very faithful to that.outdated yes,but missing the true spirit of Superman? no fucking way.
-
Looks like a pedophile.
-
Reeve carries that spirit. The rest of the film's pieces are pap. It's a victim of bad 70's trappings.
-
I know a lot of people don't want to see Lex back but believe me, like it or not, folks, Lex WILL be back for the next movie. People don't understand that Lex Luthor was a very important character. Zack and Chris vow to stay true to the Superman story, so they aren't that stupid to ignore Lex Luthor.
-
much just nailed exactly how I feel about the old Superman films. They certainly not aged well, Hackman was a terrible Luthor, Oris is painful, and Margot Kidder just always felt too "rough"
-
Bring back Routh! Whatever was wrong with SR, Routh wasnt it. If anything we can thank Singer for finding Routh, a true sucessor to r Reeve imho..
-
My words aren't meant to express a hatred for the first Superman film, I still love it for many things. But there really is HUGE room for improvement across the board. Reeve was however born to play that role.
-
I would love to see Talkbacker's vote for who should win the role of Superman.
-
He was his pick for Superman and that spilled over to Singer who fell in gay with him.
-
What man wouldn't LOVE being Superman? --Get it? To love being the character WILL shine through, and THAT is my advice to Routh. <P>If the story and script is there, if Routh is having fun in becoming the character without a need to imitate past performances, and Zack Snyder is giving himself goosebumps because he gets to realize (while setting into motion) an artistic viewpoint of Superman,...then we've got a blockbuster on our hands. <P>Buckle up.
-
and the Williams theme! You can leave the rest! (though I am a Frank Langella fan! Skeletor Rulez!)
-
Amusing to see how little love for SUPERMAN RETURNS there is on this tb. Well, not really suprising as I think we can all agree it was a pretty limp and forgettable affair.<p> However let's see what our resident 'experts' on AICN said about SUPERMAN RETURNS at the time...<p> "this is the film I was hoping and dreaming for" Harry Knowles
-
"Massawyrm believes a man can fly as he soars with SUPERMAN RETURNS 19 Jun 2006 ... I don't believe I am slipping into the realm of hyperbole when I say that Superman Returns is the Lord of the Rings of superhero films"
-
No, no hyperbole there Massawyrm. Hey, anyone wonder what Capone thought of it?<p> "Superman Returns is the finest and most well-rounded film about superheroes ever made... Superman Returns isn't simply good, it's damn near perfect, and it gets better with repeated viewings. "
-
It fully explored the magnitude of Superman's powers. Had some beautiful themes and ideas, not to mention some iconic moments. I think it's as perfect a Superman film as one could ever hope for. So there.

Brandon Routh's Supes vs. Terrence Stamp's Zod
by Rage_Against_Martin_Sheen
Make it snow.
-
Routh was the best thing about Superman Returns. Bryan Singer was a hack. Even Spacey was so so as Lex.
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAHA!!!<p> Are the reviews these cretins write bought and paid for? Or are they just IDIOTS?
-
It focused too much on love and romance with Lois Lane, throughout most of the movie, *yawn*. I hope Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder stays away from the love story thing. We want a "Superman" film with non stop action, that's what I'm hoping for!
-
"It fully explored the magnitude of Superman's powers"<p> Joely_Boy his super stalker power?<p> And all that tedious shit with the kid and the love triangle with the new boyfriend... fuck dude. If there's one thing it didnt do was explore the magnitude of his powers.<p> SUPERMAN RETURNS: LOOK WHO'S STALKING.
-
What happened to nerds understandfing films? Superman can hear every conversation on earth, from anywhere, he went to Lois's house as he needed to see her as he loves her, it's all there in the language of cinema, SR is a deep and richly layered movie that apparently went over a lot of heads, I'm all for more Routh as he is a great Superman.
-
and fuck Hercules. a news article from a british tabloid? fucking serious? this is what this site calls news now. incredible. this place really has taken a huge nosedive in the last couple years, but its starting to get really bad. and hercules? get a new illustration, that one is fucking stupid, and nobody gets it. are you trying to be funny? or do you look like that?
-
Stop with the fucking stalking shit. It's a theme that should have been explored, how he uses his powers and the fact that he's not fucking perfect. He has God-like powers but isn't God. He makes mistakes and can fall to human issues as easily as anyone else.
-
I'm most likely a fair bit older than most on here so I remember the "You'll believe a man can fly" posters from the day and the full page rainbow advert in the Evening Standard at the time. <p> Being a massive comic head as a teen I was soo soo looking forward to Superman and I have to say I was not disappointed at all. The cheesyness of Hackmans Lex was great for that time (I really don't think it's fair attack a film based on todays world), Otis was a laugh and Ned pulled it off. The little sly look back from the oaf as he saw a cop being pushed to his death under a train was spot on, oaf but nasty. <p> Ack, the one cast member I must admit to not liking was Margot Kidder, her with a ciggie poking out of it is the most unsexy look I can think of, she's just got a 'dirty' or cheap look. <p> The score was / IS amazing, probably Williams best ever and Yes, it should return.<p> Sadly the rest of the films became more comical with only 2 being really worth a watch of both versions of it out there. <p> I can't describe fully how disappointed I was at 3 onwards, they were no more than pay days for the now bored Reeve and with how they were played I can't say I blame him.
-
That doesn't mean much. Superman Returns was a piece of garbage, horrible script, boring directing, cheesy Luthor, Lois Lame, etc. This NEW Superman saga (I hope) needs a NEW actor to portray the hero, no Routh, no Welling... and KilliK, I've always seen S:TM as a very "Silver Age" Superman movie.
-
Nolan has Batman grounded in reality. Good that works. Superman on the other hand is a God among mankind. I hope Snyder goes bug shit nuts and puts him in other worldly situations.
-
Damn it
-
it's time to get an awesome sense of scale in a comic film. intergalactic planetary
-
To attack a film from the 70's based on today's world. Look at the films from the 70's and what they explored. They were dark and gritty and dove into the dark corners of the human condition. That's not to say Superman should have been dark and gritty, but the direction they took with Luthor and Otis was fucking ridiculous. And while I understand it was the first real superhero movie, it still reeks of too much camp.
-
Since he's prooved he'll walk onto any set for a big fat cheque<br> Lex is saying *Motherfucker* this time
-
Re the stalking<p> If you allow the idea that Superman can hear conversations world wide then you have to allow for the Scanners approach, they were driven mad by the voices inside their heads, these voices could not be turned off or pin pointed, they were there full on all the time. <p> So if you think about it in real terms, Supes would be driven mad, by the same token, Supes as a kid never killed anyone despite having super strength, him as a toddler throwing a strop would be deadly. <p> so give it all a little lee way :)
-
I think he did a very good job as Superman and he deserves another shot playing Superman.
-
The opening 10 minutes of that script is pretty phenominal. A MASSIVE, full-blown Bruce Timmesque, city-flattening fight between Superman and (essentially) Zod. Superman is losing pretty badly. He is bruised and bloodied. "Zod" lures him into an underground bunker and we close in on Superman's face melt into absolute horror at what he sees there. Cut to Superman as a boy on the Kent farm.</p><p>Unfortunately most of the rest of the script is lame, but that opening is fucking amazing and they should keep it.
-
He bitched and moaned about Superman being a "deadbeat dad" in his "review" of the film. What the fuck did he expect? For Superman to just fly in and take the kid? The kid has grown up with the idea that Richard is his dad. And unless we get a mini-series diving into the multiple father angle, then what we got was handled very fucking well. That and Jurgen's art on Superman fucking sucked so there you have it.
-
I don't want to see Zod, nor do I want to see Superman have his ass handed to him by that fucking mongoloid. Never liked Zod, nor the idea of another Kryptonian on Earth.
-
But has no juice. Note his lack of substantive roles since then. Charisma is important for actors, especially if they're being asked to prop up a "tentpole." And Routh hasn't displayed that so far. Perhaps Snyder can pull that out of him, but Reeves had charisma in spades, and made those movies work.
-
Superman Returns was pretty lame.
-
i think brandon routh is a good choice. he was the best part of a weak script.
-
You have to look at Superman from the angle of the day, the film was a big call, someone was making huge claims about making a man fly etc, also there was money being poured at it to get the big stars onboard so in the end it needed desperately to get bums on seats at the cinema. <p> They took a brave choice picking an unknown and the film was going to have to stand around him soley, this was a Supes film and he had to be able to make it fly. <p> So no risks were taken, everything was kept for a full family audience so yes it was camp but it was camp that was ok at the time. <p> So thats why I when a film is reviewed from todays world and morals, there are some films that manage to blend well even now but many films are simply a thing of the time and should be reviewed as such. <p> Personally I'd love a Dark Knight adaption of Batman, the pained old Batman living in a world of pain and hate being brutal to those that get in his way, no 'bifff' 'bam' or 'kapow' here! <p> that with the interaction of the older Supes coming in to bring his old friend to task, now THAT would be a great film.
-
<p>"Stop with the fucking stalking shit. It's a theme that should have been explored."<p> Riiiiight... cos I guess that's what all those wide-eyed 8 year olds are expecting to see when they go see a SUPERMAN movie?<p> Fuck it, why not chuck Superman in with the stalker-sub-genre. Have it play in a double-bill with that one where Robin Williams plays the guy who works in a photo developing booth and spunks all over one families pics.<p> "It's a theme that should have been explored" No. You fucking idiot. It really isnt.
-
...and any part of the new film that links to it is tainted by association. I've nothing against Routh but the guy was doing an impersonation of Christopher Reeve playing Superman more than actually just playing the character. A new broom would be a good thing. Whatever happens, there MUST be a new Lois Lane! Bosworth was AWFUL! Erica Durance won't get the job but she is at least smokin' hot.
-
I understand that perspective of it, it happens today more often than not. A movie that could be what it should be becomes instead what it needs to be to appeal to the suits and the broad majority of theatre goers. I don't condone that mentality though because some of the best films are those that took risks. And most of the films we bitch about now are films that sat on the fence and were lazy. There is much I can look past in Superman, but there's only so much you can forgive when trying to watch a film and still be as into it as you were when you first saw it, in my case as a kid. And like I said, what they did right, they REALLY did right, the score and Reeve etc.
-
Even though Batman Begins started from scratch, it has similarities to the fan script WB really loved and was showing around called "Batman: The Frightening".</p><p>That was an EXCELLENT Batman script. It was definitely aimed at adults and was even kind of gory in places.</p><p>It starts off with Batman locked up in Arkham Asylum as a patient. He still has his mask on because the Doctor says that he has so identified with Batman that to take the mask off would cause a complete break with reality. I can't quite remember if the rest of the film is a flashback, but I seem to recall him getting broken out, perhaps by Alfred. Anyway, the rest of the script is about Batman chasing Scarecrow and running down his own demons let loose by Scarecrow's gas. It's a real page-turner, you should track it down.
-
dilemma of whether to use your powers for good or evil. It was a nice little test of Superman's character. <P>As for exploring the magnitude of Superman's powers, what, you didn't see him save a jumbo jet from crashing into earth? Moving faster than a speeding bullet to save the two security guards from getting shot? Taking a bullet in the eyeball without even flinching? Using x-ray vision to check if Lois was okay? Freezing an explosion with his breath? Lasering shards of glass with his eyes? Oh, and LIFTING A FUCKING CONTINENT INTO OUTER SPACE?!!!!!<P>I dunno what fucking movie you watched, Cobra--Kai, but I think your memory may need some repair! Did Superman kiss you?
-
"Daddy, I can't sleep"<p> "What's the matter son?"<p> "Im worried Superman is looking in my window. I'm worried he'll take me away."<p> "Fuck. Why did I take you to that fucking shit movie!"
-
And THAT'S why it's fucking BULLSHIT because Superman would never do that! Fucking AMAZING that you don't understand that!
-
First, fuck you and the horse you rode in on. Second, you're a twat and do you think a wide eyed 8 year old understands everything he or she sees in a fucking movie (like Clark giving up his powers so he could bang Lois in Superman 2???) and Third, YES it really is. He has the power to see and hear nearly everything, do they simply ignore that? Oh I see, it's OK to have him look at Lois's crotch in the first movie and "only" see her underwear? Yeah, big fucking difference. And D, go march into traffic. End of Line.

bye bye Routh

and deserves to wear the iconic cape and shield in a proper Superman epic.

he did. remember the hutton report, news international broke the press embargo by printing the sun newspaper 5mins before other newspapers went to press. Murdoch hates the bbc. andy coulson is now camerons chief communications officer in downing street. Coulson was editor of the news of world during the phone hacking scandal. Trevor Kavanagh, the suns retired political correspondent claimed that he got the copy of hutton report from a security person. wouldnt say who it was. Murdoch, blair and cameron all loathe the bbc and want it destroyed.

Nobody even said who the main Batman villain is going to be
by brocknroll
In case you guys noticed, Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have been keeping shut about the new Batman villain for a long while. Nobody knows who it is yet. It might not even be Catwoman or the Riddler at all. My guess is that the new Batman villain will be Black Mask 'cause Chris has been talking about using him for a while. Tom Hardy is casted for a main character role, so he might be playing the main villain.
-
When did I say any of that you fucking moron? I said the territory of what he can do with his powers and how he tempers the usage of those powers is what they need to explore. That is what makes him an interesting character versus simply a perfect boy scout. He isn't GOD, and CAN make mistakes. Fuckstick.
-
everyone in the donner films was a fuckin retard<p> No more blatantly stupid people<p> fuckin retards
-
reinforcement of character? "Bad" things have to happen so a character can learn from their mistakes. You can't get too hung up on Superman wanting to see his old flame and her new dude!
-
He was checking in on her. Lois is the woman he loves. He's been away off-world for five years. He returns and finds that her life has completely changed and he has no opportunity to speak with her: She won't give Clark the time of day and she's fiercely angry at Superman. He loves her, so certainly he needs to know what's going on in her life. ONE TIME he checked in and that was it. That's not stalking and anyone who says it is is misusing the term.
-
No way I would pay money to see this in a theater if Routhie was in it. Maybe on Netflix? Hmmm.....Nah. Creepy wooden Donner clone.
-
his memoirs were tax exempt. the cupboard door opens...the door for the aras closes. did you see the list for irelands greatest on tv. fianna fail. a year plan and concensus. One time does not constitute stalking! Hahaha!
-
He didn't know he had a son. And when he found out Lois' son was his, the first thing he did was visit his son and share a powerful paternal moment with him. <p> <p> It sucks how fanboys will make up bogus reasons to hate.
-
NightArrows, if im marching into traffic what about the horse I rode in one? What happens to the horse? And how did you begin with numeric bullet points but end up at point D? I think the point of your post was that I'd belittled you and now you no longer like me, but it's unclear. Plus you want more stalking in future Superman films not less?<p> Pls clarify using a six point hexagonally-rotated numeric response.

and Zach Galifianakis would work well as Otis. and Joel Moore would make a great Jimmy Olsen. <P> Third times the Charm. <P> Seriously though. Kevin Corrigan should be this generations Peter Lorre, and he would make an amazing Lex. But like everyone else says Lex should be a background character and not the main bad guy. His role should be built up for a sequel that would feature him as the main baddie.
-
If you don't like that, then you don't like SUPERMAN! Move the fuck along!</p><p>Superman doesn't use his powers to check out Lois' vagina, he doesn't use them to watch her go up the elevator so he can see up her skirt, he doesn't spy on her homelife, he doesn't listen to her private conversations. You know why? BECUASE HE RESPECTS HER! For people who don't know what the fuck respect is, I suppose that doesn't make any sense. But that's because they are fucking stupid and don't "get" Superman AT ALL!

After being made human, he had unprotected sex with Lois. Then he IMMEDIATELY leaves the planet for 5 fucking years. Now I'm assuming Clark Kent took a fucking health class at some point. And NEVER in those 5 years did it occur to the fucking moron that she could have gotten pregnant?</p><p>DEADBEAT DAD!</p><p>Oh and Superman Returns also established that Lois Lane is a FUCKING WHORE because no sooner than Superman leaves, without her even knowing it apparently, that she hops in the sack with a new guy. NICE! Yeah what a brilliant fucking portrayal of those iconic characters!

Routh wasn't the problem with Returns, the script was
by GLENN_THE_TOOL
it didn't give Routh a whole lot to do with the character. all Superman really did in the script was stalk Lois and lift heavy objects. the film just felt bland and stale, lacking any real excitement. give Routh something to work with!
-
He seems like a boy scout to humans because that is what his role is. He is there to solve the big problems and to be a beacon to the rest of us to stand up and be better people, and to solve OUR own problems in a better fashion than we normally do. On his own he has to deal with a multitude of problems that yes, we would all face in his place. He can't show it because, as was said, he is a shinning example of what a Superhero should be, but he's far from perfect. As for checking out her vag, what the fuck did he do in the first Superman movie? He checked out her FUCKING UNDERWEAR. I guess that was "respect" huh?
-
After reading your deadbeat dad post, you are obviously too stupid to live.
-
The premise of the movie was bad. And from what I've heard so is the premise of the upcoming one. Once again, we will not be given the Superman movie we want... only the guys doing animated stuff know how to treat this character and make it work, it would seem. Everyone else has to do some highly unusual take on it or introduce elements that just don't work well.
-

by RETURN_of_FETT
Go ahead, explain how it's perfectly logical that Superman didn't think he could have possibly gotten her pregnant. While you're doing that, why don't you go ahead and explain why he would leave the love of his life to see if the planet his own father told him was destroyed, was still around? Yeah, Superman Returns was fucking BRILLIANT!
-
"Wow, that's a coincidence because I fucked your mother exactly around the time you were concieved."
-
"Wow, that's a coincidence because I fucked your mother exactly around the time you were concieved."
-
I still can't get over Superman Returns where those two look longingly at each other. ecccchhh! Snyder will erase the shame that Schuster and Seigel never intended.
-
She's quirky, tough and believable. Routh did a superb job given what he had to work with. I think both would have great chemistry together.
-
Dont believe a single word from any British newspaper, theres more chance of findin a true fact in a Dr Seuss book! As for BR I think he is a good Superman, cant blame him for a shoddy story in Superman Returns.
-
Our good ol' British tabloids just latch onto old rumours then run them. And that's on a GOOD news day.
-
It's clearly bull shit speculation from a British tabloid that has never been right about anything and is likely a plant from actors' publicist teams. I could report that my dog Bart is predicting that Jack Black is playing Superman and it would be just as accurate as this report.
-
than any Murdoch-owned publication or broadcast entity.
-
Ever notice that when Superman comes out with a new movie, he's the most talked about superhero ever and every other superhero including Batman is ignored? Just proof that Superman is king.
-
Superman gets a lot of hits, that's for sure. I think it has more to do with that it's so easy to fuck up Superman and there is a LONG behind the scenes history of bizarreness in getting a new film to the screens. Superman Returns just piles on top of that and makes the subject even more interesting to talk about because there are some exceptionally stupid mother fuckers walking around that have no idea what the character of Superman is supposed to be, including Bryan Singer.
-
... the News of The World, for once, it's pretty much true. Their site carried video of Snyder at the Guardians premiere, being asked about the (rapidly burgeouning "BringBackRouth" Twitter campaign (which has prompted Routh himself to join Twitter and sign up) and did say he was aware of the surprisingly huge groundswell of goodwill towards the guy, which they didn't see coming, and acknowledged that Routh may be a contender. I hope so.
-
i get it you wanted more action, well whaaaaa go watch a micheal bay movie. and as for the stalking point.. he was Fucking checking in on her he hadnt seen her in 5 years.
-
And I'm glad they are thinking about Routh to come back as Superman. I don't think he was bad, I just think Singer screwed the pooch on Superman Returns. He was the only bright spot.
-
After finding out there is a gaggle of retards that want him in the role? Of course not. He will cast some amazing actor who will be perfect in the role and all the simps with shut the fuck up about it.
-
heeey buddy, how old are you<br> whatdoyouknow I fucked your mommie that long ago
-
Incredibly wooden actor. He may sort of look like Christopher Reeve, but he has absolutely none of his charisma or energy.
-
Nice to see Herc doing his Keith lOlbermann impression. Yes, News Corp can't be trusted, they're evil. Like Republicans, and of course female co-workers who won't give you a mercy fuck.
-
Geez -- Hercules, that tried-and-true liberal apologist, questions a report simply because of the person who owns the company from which the report was published. Should we question the New York Times simply because it is owned by an admitted socialist who is EXTREMELY liberal, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr.? Geez. Do you think that EVERY article must be screened by Rupert Murdoch? Besides, Hercules seems like he would endorse Hugo Chavez if he ran as a "Democrat." <p>As for the report: I just hope that they can find someone other than Routh to play Supes. That is, UNLESS he can be taken out of his shell and given the freedom to play the character as envisioned by Chris Nolan. </p>Megan Fox for Catwoman? Who didn't see that coming? I think that every hot woman in America has been rumored to be considered for the role.
-
I don't think he looked the rugged hero I always imagine Superman to look. umm, John Hamm. I know he is too old for a start up story, but why couldn't Superman be established? Why does it have to be the early years?
-
and call it done.
-
First off I can't see a director like Nolan casting a non-talent like Megan Fox. Secondly I don't see a studio going with anyone that isn't a big name after the only so-so box-office and critical reception of Superman Returns. Neither of these casting stories sounds true.
-
I knew someone at NewsCorp who hated puppies. Guilt by association.
-
Sure you guys have met him on a few occasions and I bet he's a real nice, charismatic guy and you consider him to be a friend. But there needs to be a complete break from Singer's Superman. He's too tied to that particular universe. It would be too weird to see Routh there with different actors playing the other roles in a different universe of Superman. And if Snyder decides to return to Singer's storyline of Superman complete with Superkid, I'm done with Superman films. Singer made a critical mistake and that is to make a direct continuation of Donner's Superman storyline. The best course of action would be to adopt the spirit and quality of Donner's Superman, but it needs to be a fresh new Superman universe.
-
It's SuperMAN . . .
-
I didn’t like Superman Returns, I thought it was boring and bland and only a few scenes stand out for me. However, I don’t get this crap about Superman the Stalker especially as it’s not a new thing – I mean we’re talking about a being who listens to Lois talking about the ‘man she loves’ and then acts on that. Superman’s actions towards Lois are ultimately informed by her being unaware of his other identity. So, in any Superman story where Lois is unaware that Clark is Superman then he is in effect stalking her.<p> If you chose to go down that route of thinking about the movie then you have to about the character.<p>I don’t choose to myself, I hated the scene in SR because I felt it was incredibly out of place in a Superman film because the character has enough about him that you don’t need angsty love stories – that’s my problem with it. It feels like the latest episode in a long running television series rather than a Superman film.

Quote: "Go ahead, explain how it's perfectly logical that Superman didn't think he could have possibly gotten her pregnant." Really? I guess you are still a virgin, or your sexual experience is limited to Palmela Handerson because on a daily fucking basis people have sex, and you know what? It doesn't always dawn on them that they could impregnate their partner based on the time of the woman's cycle they are having sex, or even the fact that the woman COULD HAVE USED BIRTH CONTROL THAT DIDN'T FUCKING WORK. As for the panty remark, if he was so pure and untouchable in the morals department he wouldn't have tried to see her underwear even when asked by Lois, correct? Go fuck a college wall, you might absorb some learning.
-
Routh was in an extention of the Donnerverse. Since this is a fresh start audiences will be put off and confused by the change in story "what happened with his kid?" However all that could happen anyways. I dunno maybe it could work out. But he represents those versions of superman, so I'd imagine the studios would want to seperate from it as much as possible.
-
His contacts make him look like a guy with brown eyes wearing blue contacts. Digitally make his eyes the same pale blue that reeves were and it would add a surreal, otherworldly quality to his character that I think would accentuate his look nicely. However there's the baggage he brings from returns- but that never stopped temporal anomoly Judi dench

Yeah, And Elizabeth Berkley Has Been Cast In SHOWGIRLS 2
by LaserPants
To be directed by James Cameron. All due to the wild success of the first SHOWGIRLS that catapulted Berkley to superstardom... oh, wait, did I get something wrong here?

Was not bad at all. I could dig this.

As the EPIC FAILURE of SINGERMAN REGURGITATES amply demonstrates, most of the world is WAY over the dated-to-the-point-of-absurdity Donner / Reeves movies and is looking for a new take on the character. So, if they're smart they'll keep the soundtrack and jettison everything else. (I just hope they keep Supes in the boy scout mode. He shouldn't be "dark and brooding", that's Batman's job.
-
But I hope it's not Megan Fox. She's hot, of course, but can't act. At all. Cobb's wife in Inception could be a good Catwoman, or Eva Green. She'd be good too.
-
I like Routh and I hat Snyder so this would give me a reason to at least look at it hopefully.
-
That was the story, Kevin Spacey, and that terrible Lois Lane Cyclops love triangle. Id just as well see Routh return then see some no name actor who has done nothing to step into the role. Routh now has experience, and he definitely looks the part.
-
Then Hammer is the only guy I can get behind. He has the physical and vocal authority and presence for the role.
-
Is the most embarrassing garbage rag ever printed.<P>Do not believe a word of anything they say. They are a fucking a joke (and their sister paper THE SUN™ can fuck off too.<P>"According to our sources...blahblahblah"<P>'Sources' indeed. What a fucking load of shite that newspaper is.

-
Get Armie Hammer for Supes. Dude was born for the role.
-
some of you geeks are touting. Er.. No. I'll take Routh over that guy anyday. Just apologize at the beginning of the movie for returns with a little caption
-
Tis a double edged sword.
-
Did you see Hammer in the social network? Where it was made quite clear he's the best choice?
-
I thought he was bloody awful, offensively bland.
-
cos she's a perky girl
-
It would be great if Durance came along too, but Welling has played Clark Kent for ten years and he more than anyone deserves a shot at this role. He was great on the 200th episode of Smallville Friday night. It can still be a reboot, no need to be beholden to Smallville continuity, but Welling is the best choice for Superman.
-
That would be the SAME thing as bringing back George Clooney for Batman Begins! It would've been sensless!
-
What the hell are you guys thinking?
-
He was great on Chuck last season and anyone who saw him in Scott Pilgrim knows he doesn't have to bulk up all that much. Just PLEASE redesign that suit!
-
The burnt ketchup costume, the stalker version of supes, the bastard child crammed into the story, miscast Lois Lane, Kumar shanking Superman like a bitch, Superman only lifting shit for 2 hours, forced Jesus allegories, a wasted Williams score, the tacky real estate scheme repeat. It was shit. Don't try to defend it.
-
Snyder and Nolan are not going to get Routh back again, unless they dont find a better actor for the role.Routh is going to be the last, desperate choice for them, even Welling has better chances to be the new superman than Routh.which sucks.
-
Welling has done great work the last 2 seasons and Routh was as good as allowed in SR. Would love to see a future story with Hamm; he is a great actor & has a Super presence.
-
I don't want to dwell on SUPERMAN RETURNS cos I really think it screwed the pooch by being boring - the one thing you can't do with a film that's ultimately aimed at kids.<p> But what was the deal with the love triangle? Did Cyclops guy think the kid was actually his or did he know it was Supermans? Same with Lois - did she fuck Superman and Cyclops guy in the same week and so she didnt know who the father was?<p> Cos Superman can read minds - surely as soon as he met Lois or Cyclops he'd know that they have his kid???<p> Pls someone who knows this film better than I do explain...
-
Ultimately - how can they use Routh?<p> Surely the audience will say 'where is his kid?', or 'where is that scheming bitch who kept the kid from him?'<p> They've already pushed a round peg into a square hole as far as the continuity goes - they can't stretch it any further by using Routh again - but in another rebooted universe.
-
Remember when they were seriously going to use Nicholas Cage for Superman? And a source tells me that even Dean Cain will audition for Snyders new movie...... I just dont think we will ever get as lucky as we got with new face Christopher Reeve for this role. We are just going to have to settle for sloppy seconds. I wouldnt be mad with Routh. I just refused to buy that movie because of the stupid kid, not so great story, and the flat Lois Lane. I liked the airplane opening scene, thats about it.
-
"I'm open to it..." = ...Like I was "open" to SR, JLA and twice to Smallville. <p>"Do you have a script?" = So I can not read it like I don't read comics. <p>"It's not that simple." = If you don't have a gun to point to my head there's no way in hell I'm doing it. <p>"I'm going to Hellcats" = I'm going to Hellcats.
-
The reason he is so divisive is that the group who values acting talent dislikes him and the group that values looks like him. This has a lot to do with the large percentage of the gay community that are involved in Sci-fi. The fans that like him as Superman are mostly female or gay males, and want him for the same reason Singer did...he wanted to fuck him. The people who oppose him are mostly straight males who value his looks less, and are basing their opinion on his "talent". It's sad that an actor's looks or "the fuck factor" is so influential but it is, just like the straight males tend to be a lot more forgiving of an actresses talent flaws if she is hot. It's the exact same thing.
-
seeing as how we gots an undead grey president an all<br> makes sense
-
Some people think Routh is a Christopher Reeve lookalike, and they can't get past their sentimental attachment.<P>Rather than cast Routh, Snyder should just go to Home Depot, buy a plank of lumber and stick it in front of his stupid green screen.<P>Same end result, and he'll save a few bucks.
-
You know, the non-news which announced Goyer's script pitch for this had a twentyling Clark Kent trying to make up his mind as to whether he should even be Superman.<P>You know, pouty dope in a hoodie?<P>SUPERMAN BEGINS.<P>Turns out Perry White is really Braniac in the final act. After Kent burns down The Daily Planet.<P>I heard it even has Toyman on a horse.
-
You can't take any of these headlines as true until it's made official, especially since Nolan is involved, who more the likes to keep things underwrap until the time is right.
-
it is pretty much as perfect casting as you could hope for. she would be the best lois....EVER. <p> Seriously.

I don't mind. But I really want to pronounce it like Ruth rather than rhyming it with south.

No Routh, No Welling, a Reboot means a different actor
by Nautilus_nrm1
Man of Steel is intended to be a reboot, that means no connections to the Superman Returns or Smallville universes. Logically, that means no to both Routh and Welling. Nolan produced an academy award level picture; he and Snyder should aim as high for Superman: Man of Steel. That means finding actors who can actually act as well as look the part. And if can look like the Alex Ross Superman, all the better.
-
... make it so and if we ever get a Batman/Superman movie it will destroy the Avengers. Bale & Hamm kicking ass and taking names. Throw in a Mel Gibson appearance too if you like, maybe as a crazy nutter who runs amok in Hollywood.
-
That blew chunks. I mean, really - WHO is gonna be able to step into the Supe role w/o being compared to Chris Reeves?
-
NAY FOR FOX!!!
-
Yea read the script treatment for new one, it can still work without it being a reboot or straight up sequel to Singer's version. Just do a "continuation" of the Superman. No more reboots, no more origin stories, let's just have a good solid Superman story!
-
If he is the villian then please no Jude Law for General Zod. Would be fine for Gerry Butler or Josh Brolin. Basically someone who can be brutal and menacing with a just a stare, nevermind evil superpowers.

The new movie needs to be set in the 80s or earlier; I'd prefer setting the story in the 50s. This needs to occur so that the movie audience will realize this Superman story is a new story not tied to the old movies. That way you don't have a confused audience asking "Where's his kid from the last movie?" or "Does this take place after Superman 4?". Plus, people dig period movies, especially those in the 40s, 50s, or 60s.
-
any mention of villians?

...will you people please stop sucking him off, you all obviously like the dick, in yer fucking mouths, let me explain to you Routh-rimmers a simple fact; Reeves' acting ability was second to none, he went to Juliard for christ's sake, so I'll ask again comparitively "Who the fuck is Routh!?" he is absolutely less than nothing!! He can not act, he can not talk, he can not walk, he sure as fucking hell can not fly. Get off Routh's dick!! You fucking people make me sick!! If he ends up in the film because of all you fucking scat practising Routh licking arse-munchers, well you'll only have yourselves to blame, because the man worthy of the red boots and cape need be a man, not a fucking idiot whose acting ability is on par with a 1960s porno - fuck you all!!

Thats a damn shame two beloved sitcom family members dead within a week of each other..I liked both of these actors and grew up with them..

Brandon Routh is married to the actress Courtney Ford who played the daughter of the serial killer and reporter fucking Quinn in last seasons DEXTER! (yeah we got to see her tits and watch her pussy get eaten to orgasm!) Brandon's superman was ten times less cheesy than Christopher Reeves but his Clark Kent was just as stupid! Brandon also had a way better physique than Reeve and had his flying motions mush more convincing that Reeves too. Anyone who's seen last seasons CHUCK can see he can act, definitely enough to play superman which is barely demanding but naturally the script has to be better than what they delivered with Superman Returns. No more Lex Luthor stories and for God's sake get a Lois Lane that's closer to Sandra Bullock than goofy, trashy Margot Kidder! Someone like the voluptuous Haley Atwell for example.
-
...you somekind of fucking idiot or wot? Who gives a fuck if he straight or gay!!! Your comments tell me a few things, primarily that you like to floss using the hair off Routh's arsehole!! Brandon's superman was ten times less cheesy than Reeves, I'll tell you one thing, say that in my pub and you get a good for that statement. And then you go on to sacrilege more of Reeves by claiming Routh's flying was demostrated/executed far better than what Reeve gave!? Are you Routh's boyfriend? because you sound like you got your mouth full again. Reeve actually flew for real, as a glider dickhead and with limited cgi, read this and go back to doing what you were doing; eating Routh
-
in a nearly impossible job. They won't be able to cast anybody better.

Hate to break it to ya Routh, Hamm and Welling nerds, but I think Nolan and Snyder would go for an unknown actor for Superman. Nobody knew who Chris Reeve was at the time. Nobody knew who Brandon Routh was as well. Superman should not go to a big name star. Don't be surprised if Nolan and Snyder goes for someone we've never even heard before.

How wrong you are. If you think that i can't change my mind, then how come i love JACOB'S LADDER? Because you have no idea how low of an opinion i had of Adrian Lynn because of FATAL ATTRACTION and FLASHDANCE. I change opinion when the movie gives me reason to. Most oftehn, it doesn't happen. But when it happens, it happens. The truth of the matter is, i0'm far more flexible about movie then the vast majority of the geeks here. It's just that i'm very frontal with my opinions, and i don't disguise them with PC bullshit.

There is no way Jon Hamm can pull off a nerdy nobody. I had no sentimental attachment to the Donner movies and no sexual attraction to Routh. I just thought he was good with the material he was given. Then again, I thought SR was a good movie - minus the kid. What I think Routh did best was he gave off an "other worldly" vibe. And I don't see a Reeves connection with him at all.
-
Seriously?
-
Seriously.
-
I looked at Armie's photos online and he doesn't have that Superman look, sorry, not a good choice, next please.
-
He's not only got the right size, but he's also got a square jaw, booming voice, and solid acting ability.
-
I think he'd be badass.
-
Missed that one? If you need a point of reference... http://tinyurl.com/37ud9qy that's the first Superman pic I found too. I can get more which are closer. <p>Not to mention he's the best actor in the right age range. <p> Armie Hammer FTW.

I would far, far rather see that than one more 're-invention'. He is the best Clark Kent, EVER.
-
Routh isn't gay! He only gobbles dick because of desperation for work. So quit saying he is gay!
-
In that order.
-
He sucks. Not literally in the Routh dick-sucking-for-work kind of way, but in the bad idea kind of way. We have no need of seeing boyish Superman ever again. Hell, we just went through 10 years of boyish Superman.

I think Hammer is probably a better choice than Routh...
by RETURN_of_FETT
But he's still too young. Maybe by the time it actually gets around to filming he'll look a bit more mature.</p><p>I think Hammer should and probably will play a superhero at some point because he has the looks and physique of one. I'm just not sure Superman is the best fit. Maybe Green Arrow or Aquaman or the Flash?
-
It is time to see that gravitas on screen. It is time for Superman's place in history to be honored. No SuperBOY. It is time for the Father Of All Superheroes to show what he is capable of in his prime.
-
He's got a superhero voice.
-
Jon Hamm is the man to bring us the Father Of All Superheroes.
-
That's because he's usually cast as such but he has range. <p>http://tinyurl.com/3xqq74v <p>http://tinyurl.com/34mjnb7 <p>As for why I care? I think that's obvious. I want a new Superman series. Ask the few who called for the death of CBM's within earshot of me where I stand. Take that and double it. Double it again. Double it again. That's where I stand on Superman. There are apparently script problems. I REALLY don't want there to be actor problems. Hammer's the right age with the right look (Superman without Reeve clone) and right chops thanks to tsn. <p>Armie Hammer FTW.
-
i don't know the name of the actor but I'm guessing you're referring to Captain Black ... he is in Gossip Girl now
-
Not Armie Hammer. That dude looks like a man.
-
That's his big selling point to the suits. These are the same producers who cast way too young last time. They heard all the complaints about Routh and Bosworth looking way too young and respond by wanting to cast even younger this time. Superman movie producers are idiots. They always are. These particular brand of idiocy of these producers is always envisioning Superman as very young.
-
You want "Young Superman"? There you go. They won't find anyone better or anyone the audience likes better as "Young Superman". However, if like MOST PEOPLE you are tired of Young Superman, then you won't do better than Jon Hamm.
-
I googled his picture and sure I can see him playing Superman.</p><p>I still kind of hope some no-name guy will come forward and look exactly like Jim Lee's Superman. Aquiline features and built like a fucking tank.

Jon Hamm is the man to bring us the Father Of All Superheroes.

-
this should prove that a majority still want Routh. I know I do.
-
That's your biggest mistake UltimaRex. Everyone wants a Superman in his 30s - LIKE HE IS IN THE COMIC BOOKS. Only brain damaged producers are fixated on Young Superman. Everyone else just wants Real Superman.
-
You're not taking this seriously...
-
I know I don't.
-
so I'm not going to comment on any casting for the next one .... is the film worth renting? And the News of the World is a rag I wouldn't use to wipe my arse ... I wouldn't even let the cat piss on it ... and the fact that a supposed statesman writes for it - about football, of all things - is just an embarrassment for Ireland ... go have a look on You Tube at the ads with Bertie in the cupboard. Go on, I'll wait ...
-
He crushes Routh in every petition and poll. Welling has far more fans than Routh. That is the hard truth. If Snyder is casting on the basis of internet hype, then Welling would be a done deal. Luckily, I think that rumor is bullshit. Snyder will cast who he wants and fandom size will have neither jack nor shit to do with it. After working with Jon Hamm on Sucker Punch, everyone else will pale in comparison.
-

Never saw him before till right now. And holy crap if he would not be awesome as an older, more seasoned Superman. WOW!

Just askin'.

-
I only got thru half of the comments before i got tired of read them. I only assumed Routh at this point. As much as i love Tom and the great job he's done on Smallville, i still lean towards Brandon. I think he's a better movie Supes, and Welling a better TV Supes.
-
SHOCKING NEWS FLASH: This whole idea is laughable bullshit! The idea that Snyder will look at internet polls to decide his cast is retarded. What director ever does that? He will go with who he personally wants to work with. Did Nolan ditch Ledger because internet fans hated the idea of him and started huge petitions against him? NO. He went with his own gut, like all directors do.
-
The Williams music just IS Superman, and should continue to be used in a reboot just as the James Bond theme was kept. But Routh? He brings a lot of baggage with that inconvenient bastard love child. I can't say recasting will be very easy though--unless they get Henry Cavill or John Hamm, but I know they won't. Tom Welling has too weak a chin in my opinion that's worth nothing.

Who's everyone? Everyone on here? Drop in the ocean and a moot point. WE ARE GETTING A 25 YEAR OLD SUPERMAN ANYWAY. I wanted an SR sequel back in the day which WOULD OF HAD A SUPERMAN IN HIS 30S. But oh no SR didn't make enough profit and then all the fanboys (yes, you) dug in with "boring" "gay" "stalker" "deadbeat dad" "Singerman" and the rest so now we are back to SQUARE ONE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT A REBOOT (which was asked for by fanboys) DOES. If you want to talk brain damage the mirror is right there. Me? I'm going to support the best actor there is for the Superman we're getting in the hope this one MAKES IT TO HIS 30S. <p>Armie <p>Hammer <p>For <p>MOS!
-
Macaulay Culkin was fantastic as the young Luke Skywalker in the PT
-
or has that died a death?
-
I'm not at all ease with Zack Snyder at helm of a Superman movie. I like Nolan but this could be the kryptonite on his resume if it fails. Brandon routh should train more. He wasn't as buffed as Christopher Reeve was in the Superman role. And if i sound way pessimistic that's because i feel i was denied a great Superman movie for far too long and i'm afraid giving my trust again only to be dissapointed big time.
-
That is what people want to see. They want to see him in his natural state. Brain dead movie producers keep casting him in his early 20s. JUST SO THEY CAN PISS EVERYBODY OFF APPARENTLY. If they want to make a Superboy movie so badly, why not do both? Better yet, have the Superboy movie star Kon-El. Brain dead producers get their boyish Twilight bait and Superman fans get a Superman in his prime. Win-win

That's right. Admit it. Even if it was a train wreck, at least you would be entertained. You would be on the edge of your seat, eyes popped open to catch every bit of the insanity. And it would look great instead of Singer's filmed through a dirty river look. You would have watched Burton's film over and over again, just to be sure you weren't imagining it.
-
Let me try this again. You want a Superman in his 30s right?
-
now that I would pay for.
-
@Prof. Monster- I'm 35 and LOVED Superman Returns. stop speaking out of ignorance, and for everyone. do you personally know everyone on this planet ?

Because when you are casting Young Superman you might as well hire Young Superman. But who is insane enough to want a movie about Young Superman instead of Superman in his prime?
-
@Prof. Monster- I'm 35 and LOVED Superman Returns. stop speaking out of ignorance, and for everyone. do you personally know everyone on this planet ?

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO SEE THAT!

Hire that pasty limey from Twilight and rake in the money! It's such a genius idea, that I now qualify as a Hollywood producer!
-
Some of us aren't Routh or Welling haters. Aside from the kid, I was okay with the Superman Returns, and I've been liking the way Smallville has evolved. It should have been re-titled Metropolis or Justice League however. My point is still, if Nolan and Snyder are set on rebooting the franchise, they're not going to go with an actor tied to another "Superman universe". Its makes perfect sense to want to recast. They'll either go with an relatively unknown actor, or they'll choose someone who has been rising to the A-lists. My bet is the latter, like Nolan did with Christian Bale. Christian Bale would be nowhere without his performance in American Psycho - its what opened him up to the big roles. So there, go and speculate... who ready to break out and go big?
-
He has the charisma to sway the masses. He has the scary insanity and intensity. What say ye?
-
Jon Hamm is ready to break out big. <p> HAMMBOOT HAMMBOOT HAMMBOOT
-
He's being seen in the Hollywood community of a rising star from the small to the big screen. He's got to be on the short list, if he hasn't already auditioned or been offered the part on the sly.
-
I'm serious. This movie is part of the ongoing lawsuit. From what I understand, if MOS fails the heirs could take the rights and not give them back effectively killing Superman. Cast Welling and MOS will fail.
-
Seriously? Maybe I'm off here, but Superman is supposed to be a character who's looked up to. I don't want some guy my age who's fresh out of grad school. I think I'm getting behind this Hammboot thing. The guy looks a good five years younger than he really is, anyway.
-
When he did 300. Something to consider.
-
"I certainly haven't been informed of that. They might want to run that by me. I don't know, I think unless Superman's power was the power of being really old... I maybe aged out of that competition." <p>-Jon Hamm.
-
He looked like I could take him in a barfight. The character needs some gravitas.
-
Doesn't matter what the movie does. 2013 is THE END. The only way DC is keeping the character or WB is doing more movies is for them to pay big upfront money to buy back the character. WB has NOT been paying the heirs their cut, thanks to Hollywood accounting tricks. Every actor knows not to expect any residuals because of that. Actors negotiate to get their money upfront. The heirs DO NOT TRUST WB to pay them their legal and fair cut. They want to be paid UPFRONT. Time Warner is doing everything it can to weasel out of that. That could cost hundreds of millions of dollars. When Warner is tired of delaying the inevitable and pays out the upfront money, then and only then will more movies be made.
-
Would love to see him return to the role. He was one of the things that worked in Superman Returns.
-
All the fanboys who wanted a reboot. Reboot means back to square one. Square one means 25. It could be worse. Hoody boy in Superman: Earth One is 21. The best that can happen is the right actor gets cast so Superman can actually get to his 30s in the sequels. Armie Hammer is that actor. Why do you think I keep going on?
-
Yea, they need to cast older, someone who looks to be in his early- to mid-thirties. If I was a betting man, Nolan and Snyder are going to us a template similar to Batman Begins.
-
Reeve was 24 when he was cast but looked older while Lois lane's Margot Kidder was even a few years older. Routh was 24, was the right Clark Kent but frankly looked like a Superboy instead of man and was teamed with a woman that could've been a postergirl for young pregnant teens. Sometimes it's all about presence. Some have it, some don't.
-
Yes please.
-
Exactly! You can dye the hair, put contacts in, puff up the suit with fake muscles, but they need someone with screen presence, someone who could be dropped into 50s Americana and blend in, yet still have charisma.
-
He's the only man with the correct chin and physique/class/action credentials/fanboy-love to pull this off... no matter how old he his, He's still kickin' ass every week on Burn Notice.
-
That's why MOS is being made and why it must succeed. If it's not in "production" by 2011 the heirs sue. If MOS isn't out by the end of 2012 the heirs sue. And then it has to be settled. MOS has to make money, not just for general business but to pay the lawsuit. Pay the lawsuit and Superman keeps on going and most people won't even notice. Don't pay (a Welling MOS bombs) and Superman is dead.
-
http://tinyurl.com/2f5g7x4 It's a work-in-progress, still being written.
-
2013 is THE END. The heirs ARE ALREADY SUING! There is no "if the movie fails" bullshit. The heirs HAVE BEEN SUING FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS. The movie doesn't have jackshit to do with anything. 2013 is THE END.
-
The only question Warner and the heirs are fighting over is HOW MUCH money is owed to the heirs for PAST usage and if Warner used Hollywood accounting gimmicks to screw the heirs out of rightful money. That is the ONLY fight still going on in the courts. THE OWNERSHIP FIGHT IS OVER. Do you get that? Is it sinking in? 2013 is THE END.
-
Or will he actually play Superman? I hated Routh because he brought nothing to the role other than a dead on imation of Christopher Reeves playing Superman/Clark Kent. Since that movie, he has shown he has absolutely no acting range other than that. Please! Oh pleaase! Bring someone else in who can bring something new to the role.
-
While the Hamm quote you posted depresses me to no end, I could get behind Hammer as a second choice. Social Network showed he can act. I really hope they avoid an origin story this go round. Superman is ingrained in the American psyche. We don't need a reminder of his beginnings.
-
he deserves another shot.
-
Yes, News of the World is pretty notorious for fact checking, but that is not to say it is entirely misleading. They pay pretty well for their stories and have some regular and very accurate sources from within the industry that feed them with stories before even the snouts at web based pages get a whiff. I was a junior reporter there in the early 80's, straight out of university, and one of my first jobs was writing up a feed from David Prowse, about how major characters from Jedi were going to die. Of course, that proved inaccurate, but for whatever reason, the story did originate from him. The problem is, they often recieve information so early that the involved parties haven't even rubber stamped yet. I know for a fact that their policy on low end Showbiz stories - simply to fill space, which this is - is never to check for fear of denial and hence having to drop the item. That is pretty much the policy of all British red-tops. On another tabloid newspaper, which will remain nameless, I know that a piece regarding a new stand-alone Matrix movie, involving none of the original cast, apart from an option to reveal Keanu Reeves as some kind of deity at the conclusion, was scuppered recently because the reporter involved chose to follow up and was met with the inevitable denial. It doesn't mean it isn't true. And for the record, I thought Brandon was great in an otherwise terribly misjudged Superman movie.
-
When is the last time we saw Superman in his prime instead of Young Superman? Don't we deserve to see it once before the THE END comes? A real full on Superman adventure. None of this young man trying to find himself crap.
-
Zack Snyder and his wife were interviewed in London for the UK premiere of the Gahoole movie and when asked about whether Brandon would be back his wife nudged him and she said it was "way too early to discuss any of that." I think Zack did initially say that Routh's return is "unlikely" (he said it VARIETY) but then with the campaigning for Routh he doesn't want to make any set statements about casting for the part yet, including Routh. I think Snyder doesn't really want Routh, but he is saying nothing now to appease Routh fans, which may include some studio people. But I hope he ultimately gets to decide what's best. <p> And yes, WB have to make a movie before 2012 or else they can be sued by the Siegels, but in 2013, Siegel and Shuster will win back the entire original rights to Superman and WB will have to pay a license fee to the Siegel and Shuster estates if they want to do anything else with the character.
-
I hope it's not the end and WB pay up but I do want to see a full-on action movie for Superman if it is the end.
-
TOM WELLING IS 100% GOING TO BE CAST. I have faith in British journalism! Ye who call the limey liars shall be eating crow. Shame on your xenophobic selves!
-
Talk about hamming it up to the camera.
-
It begins on IFC Monday night. I'm excited as this should feed my zombie jones until The Walking Dead premieres. <p> Zack Snyder should cast the Wolf-boy from True Blood (not Sam Merlott - the newer guy). He can act and when clean shaven REALLY looks the part.
-
but a horrible superman. I'd rather see Tom Welling, but whoever it is better get huge like the Thor and Captain America actors. Comic book character need to be ripped like in the funny papers.
-
So you listened to the brains but not me over the whole legal mess? If you hadn't supported Hammer I'd be a little upset...
-
You didn't listen to the brains... OK I'm off to bed...
-
I don't know about the Superman movie having to succeed and make money being part of the lawsuit, but if there is no movie by 2012, the Siegels can sue again. But Youngblood is right that in 2013 the Siegels and Shusters will have the rights, no matter what.
-
I'm against the potential casting of Brandon Routh in Zack Snyder's SUPERMAN. Superman Returns was an artistic failure (and that's being kind), and certainly did not live up to Warner's commercial expectations. I believe the slate has to be wiped clean. You can't have the audience wondering "what happened to Superman's son?" or "why are all the other characters being played by different actors?". As Hollywood already knows, never overestimate the intelligence of the average movie-goer.
-
Routh is the best option. He completely captures the Christopher Reeve Superman that we have all grown to accept as THE live-action Superman. If the last Superman movie was flawed, it had nothing to do with him.
-
I would like to have an unknown playing Superman and have him be surrounded with some name actors, like they've always done with the Superman movies. <p> If Routh were to return, that negates what Superman Returns did- wrapping up the Donner-era Superman story.

late for the party, but I've been saying the same things ever since the movie came out - that the 'stalker' and 'deadbeat dad' complaints are ridiculous, juvenile, and from braindead meatheads who have never had a date or, god forbid, a child. By no definition does Supes' act like a stalker. James Marsden's character was fantastic - still love the bit about 'how'd you get here?' 'I flew'. In Singer's version, Supes was more of a cypher for the other characters to play off, and it was about how he was returning to reclaim his position as earth's savior, so that by the end, he's restored, ready for the kick-ass sequel that never happened.
-
those spinning rings (cool), Bad Superman flicking peanuts (way cool), Bad Superman bedding Pamela Stephenson (badass), Gus (wizard), tar, Brando (guy didn't give a fuck), and that woman that turned into a robot via computer (ultimate badassery that nothing can top.)

However, I do cast my vote for the Armie Hammer camp. But I wouldn't mind seeing Routh again.
-
It was entertaining. The least of the problems I had with SR were the performances. It was just fairly dull plot wise, but it looked great and thought both Routh and Spacey were solid. But, yeesh, make a movie were Superman throws a frickin' punch please. "General, would you care to step outside" this movie was not.

I didn't vote for Routh, Welling or Hammer. I meant to vote "Other" but I may have voted for Aston Merrygold by mistake. I certainly didn't want to increase his numbers, though he certainly is a popular choice. Sorry!

sick of how juvenile and ridiculous the stlker and dead beat dad shit is. But unfortunatly this is the level to which fandom has sunk (also see the painfully juvenile thundersmurfs comments re Avatar). Its gotten to the point tht its become almost impossible to have adut, intelligent conversations about genre films anymore because so much of fandom appears to be afflicted with man-child syndrome, and bases their critique of everything on the most inane, pathetic, and flat out juvenile "insults" they can think of....
-
episode of Smallville, and I'm not too proud of that. It was at it's best when Lana was being basically psychologically tortured by everyone around her including Tom Fracking Welling. These last two seasons have seen no acting from Welling that wasn't whiny crap with no expression. He is not a good actor, he can not play supes in a movie. You people who say otherwise are fools.

My comments about Rouths gender are in reply to much of the opening comments on this site claiming he was gay , he's not because the guys married and to a damn ho wife at that you pissant! As for his flying, i'm not talking about the special effects you asshole, it's his body actions and poses he performs to compliment the action of being in flight. Reeves was good at it, his was way better. You don't like it, fuck you and your boys club! This is a talkback for opinons, not a bloody Klu Klux Klan meeting you solitary retarded braincell!

did nothing original and did not have the effortless charm of reeves to even pull off the aping -he wasnt bad, just was nothing memorable and could easily be replaced

interesting about the film being discussed. Instead its more like sports team fans or religious fanatics where everything is absolutes, and flaws are blown so far out of proportion, or they latch onto the most bizarre, infantile crap to focus their hate on....

he is a better director than that, but he fucked up on supes because of his ridiculously slavish devotion to aping donner instead of producing something original and entertaining, like he was fuckin scared of fucking up something sacred or some shit, it was not a horrible movie but it was not good either. routh may have been a victim of singers obsession, but is nolan or synder gonna bank on that?
-
appreciate SR. I guess it just wasnt made for the ADD crowd. I liked its slower, more 70s style, almost classy approach. The effects are simply excellent imho, Routh was very good, and frankly I dont get the Reeve copyist nonsense either, Routh's Superman is certainly different. The cast was very good overall, and it captured the messianic, and immigrant themes of Superman very well.
-
to guys like Kobe, that Snge did make a big mistake in adhering to the Donner films so slavishly. He should have put more of his own stamp on it, made it more of its own film. And I dont think it helped that the story structure was essentially a loose remake of Donner's original film...

have hurt. Especially with Supes fighting something that poses a real threat. And the use of Lex Lthor yet again did nt help either. So while I will always argue that its a really good film, and that Routh was an excellent Superman, its clear that Singer failed to make the "type" of Superman film that was needed to re-ignite Superman'spopularity ith fim goers....
-
Simply because they have gone on record and said this new film will not connect to any previous Donner/Singer-verse films. And they better fucking do that too because if they don't, I and millions of other people are going to be pissed. We're sick of the Donnerverse and Superman Returns. If they cast young, and give us a younger Superman that's fine. But don't give us a straight up origin story. That would kill this thing.
-
main reasons would also like Routh to be given another shot is that I hate when an iconic part is played by too many actors, as in they chop and change the actor often. Its meant to be really special for an actor to portray a very iconic character, and look how ridiculous it is that in three films now, the Hulk will be played by three totally different actors. It just ruins something about Hulk for me. I dont want the same thing with Superman...

Deadbeat dad-ing in this one too?? Faster than a speeding paternity test! Able to leap court-ordered wage garnishment in a single bound! It's Singerman!

that I wonder if they would be able to not consider Routh as we now know this film is being rushed into production due to the clicking clock Warners/DC have over their heads to get another Supes film made. It would appear they wont have a huge amount of time to search for the perfect actor (and imho Supes is one of those chracters that needs to be played by the perfect actor for the part). And All previous directors (Donner, Ratner, McG, Singer) have spoken about how much trouble they all had finding the right actor, and how many actors turn the part down for a variety of reasons. And since Routh has already done it and is thus prepared, and he was pretty good imho (I know this part is subjective), I do wonder if they will be forced to seriously consider him anyway....
-
Why no obit yet? The voice of Charlie in Charlie's Angels is gone forever. (What's that you say?)

stupid? Or do you practice? Listen here you dumb cunt..did you miss the part where It says "I hate" as in its just my feeling dipshit. I have never attacked someone simply because they dont like something I dont, and I have siad this to many in the TB. Almost all insults I throw are at the trolls that spam certain TBs constantly repating themselves. Or when what they say is simply fabricated nonsense. Case in point, Transformersapologist went o for months how Avtar would be a huge bomb, he literally spammed the TBs with that. Now aftert the fact, and proven very wrong, he has yet to cop to it. Nevermind that after that he went on ad naseum about how the DVDs would nt sell...20million dvd/blurays later....he still does nt cop to it. Now idiots like him I will gladly insult any day..

The Routh support is appalling and makes me want to puke
by bottombrick
Superman is both a Man and an Olympian, Routh was neither. I don't care if an actor is gay or not, but Singer styled and directed him as a fey underwear model-like pansy with no character or grit and that representation is indelibly stamped in the viewing public's memory. REBOOT! You have to look past your petty tastes in his looks and charms and accept he is a terrible Superman, he does not have the gravity or manhood to support the mythos.
-
awww..fuck!
-
fantasy version of me, but I did not check anything out in the Tron TB becasue I dont go to TBs about subjects I have no interest.
-
Asimov out on me, you are also apparantly a liar. Please show me where the fuck I popped up in unrelated TBS with the intent purpose to say anything about Avatar. And it really shows what a liar you are since if you did go look at my old posts in Avtar related TBS, you will see that I have mentioned numerous times that I was dissapointed with Avatar, and liked the universe that had been created far more than what I liked the film. But hey Kobe, why should we let facts get in the way of the fight your e looking to have?
-
was not the voice of Charlie! That was John Forsythe. And why the fuck is everyone always so nasty? Whatever...I liked Routh - or I didn't dislike him: the script just sucked. And could Spacey scream some more? What was he doing, his Pacino impersonation? None of it matters - total reboot coming. Let's see some fucking action! Maybe Snyder should watch the first 'Iron Man' flick, to see how it's done.
-
Avatar (both good and bad) in Avatar TBs to Asimovs crusade against Trek. So that alone proves how much you make shit up. You hate hypocrites? Too bad you dont hate liars...but then you would have to hate yourself.
-
someone Kobe, then put up or shut up. Please provide actual proof. And by proof I dont mean taking one or two lines out of context from one of my posts and then twisting it.
-
am is self-serving. What the fuck is what you are doing? To tell me not to hide behind Asimov, yet who brought him up? Who could nt hide their hatred of Asimov by using him as a way of insulting me? You know what I hate Kobe? Dishonest people that project onto others....
-
hypocrite, then Im calling you out on being a total liar. Prove where I went into non-Avatar TBS with the intention of telling anyone how great it was. I know you cant do this because you cant disprove my numerous posts where I talked about my dissapointment with it, and my hope that any sequal is much better....
-
did nt work at all, so be it. To be honest I think all this talk is purely acedemic anyway as I have a feeling Snyder will indeed just look for someone else completely not asscociated with any prior Superman.
-
Cool, then you and the Routhian's can stop grasping for straws. Especially obviously made-up ones. His "first interview"? I think not.
-
I loved Singer's Superman. I don't get all the hate. I thought it was a damn near perfect reboot. I really hope Routh reprises the role.
-
Tom Welling is a vacuum within a vacuum. But Brandon Routh didn't impress me either. That might have had to do with the terrible job Singer did with the film. Still, I'd like to see another unknown take on the role. Start completely fresh.
-
I've never even seen an episode of 'Mad Men' in my life, but watching Jon Hamm appear on numerous talk shows, I'm beginning to see why he would make an appealing Supes. But it seems it will never happen, because the script is aleardy locked in as an origin story, about Clark Kent deciding whether he even wants to becocome Superman, which implies and age of 25 or under. UNLESS, they totally think outside the box, and have clark not even decide to first donn the cape untill he's at lest 35. Which would be a brilliant move, actually. YES!!! That's how they should do it. If it were up to me, they would make the visual style and overall tone of this film an art-decco mixture of the Max Fleischer animated shorts, 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow', and 'Dark City'. It doesn't literally have to be set in the 1940s, just give it a 1940's art deco feel having it take place in its own unique timeless reality. Like 'Dark City' or even 'The Shadow' (regardless of how lackuster that particular adaptation may well have been). Make it a weird blend of art-deco 40's and bright technicolor 1950's americana. Like Lynch's Blue Velvet, it's a comfortable and safe all-American 'Laeve It to Beaver' cultre that is suddenly threatened by a hideous, inexplicable evil, that only the Man of Steel can face down...
-
comment and apologize to anyone I may have offended with it. So sorry to anyone that took personal insult in me saying SR was not for the ADD crowd. I was wromg to say so..
-
You don't "get" the well-deserved HATE for Singerman, but thought it was "a damn near perfect reboot"? Jesus, there is something wrong with YOU.... Singerman, more powerful than a drivers license revocation!
-
you happy. I was under the assumption we were just shooting the shit and speaking our minds as is common in TBs. My world does not hinge on who will play Superman. I hope you are nt taking it too seriously either....
-
You don't get the hate? You don't get a lot of things, so you? I hated the lame plot, I hated the super baby, I hated Lois Lane, I hated the tired retread plot of bringing Luthor back. There was one exciting scene - the airplane rescue over the ballpark. Otherwise it was a crappy salute to a movie that doesn't hold up very well these days. Get it?
-
Oh come on. After all of your bullshit on here, all of a sudden "I don't care"? You started off insulting the people who didn't like that piece of shit flop. Remember?
-
"Up, up and away from responsibility!"
-
accusing each other of being assholes Kobe? If so, I would dearly love to stop talking about things that have fuck all to do with this TB, and get back to talking about Superman...
-
SR had bad pacing. Weak story.
-
SR had a shitty lead, horrid costume design, soap opera bullshit and a boring story. And that's just the first half! BJ Routh is stumping at 'cons charging $60 to take a picture with him. Stick a fork in him, he's done.
-
Bosworth is what ruined 'Superman Returns' for me. How could Singer possibly have thought that Bosworth would make a better replacement for Margot Kidder in his pseudo-DonnerVerse? Makes zero sence. As pointed out by another talkbacker on a previous Supes-related news item, I wouldn't be surpsrised if Singer wanted Parker Posey for Lois but studio heads wanted someone more "bankable" for the younger demograpic like Bosworth so he gave Posey the role of Luther's assistan as sort of consolation prize. I personally still feel that Pamela Adlon from 'Californication' would have made the ideal replacement for Margot Kidder, but certainly Parker POsey would have been far more fitting than Kate freakin' Bosworth...
-
insulting anyone and everyone that does not like SR. First, I only said the ADD crowd would nt like it. Im not sure how that qualifies as "everyone". Secondly, I agreed with a guy about the deadbeat thing as being juvenile, what the hell does that have to do with insulting people that dont like SR? Many people have expressed valid points as to why they dont like SR, and can make many good points related to story, direction acting etc..as to why they feel the way they do. So how am I insulting "everyone" by agreeing with some dude that I find the contant, as in repeated and overused, deadbeat dad thing juvenile? ...
-
lier posts deadbeat, you may notice that I agreed with points Kobe made about SR, and I said that while I like SR, I could see why it failed, and how and why Singer made the wrong choices....so again, how the hell was I "insulting everyone"?
-
ve been much better. I have never liked any of the film Lois Lanes so far....I think Posey may have been quite good at it.
-
Trying to back-track is VERY juvenile. Everyone who read your post knew what you meant when you said "it wasn't made for the ADD crowd". You got called out, and even APOLOGIZED for saying it. So shut the fuck up with THAT bullshit.
-
yet again, unless you consider yourself to have ADD, how the fuck am I insulting you? You are insulting yourself deadbeatdickhead...
-
And as far as the deadbeat dad thing goes.... He WAS one. Just because you and the few Singerman fans out there can make things up to "justify" it to yourselves DOESN'T make it any less true. The guy fathered a kid, allows another man to think the bastard is HIS, and took ZERO financial responsibility for it. Oh, but he DID creep into the kids bedroom with a strange pedarast look in his eyes and spoke to him in his sleep. Deadbeat dad? Never! Right?
-
anything, If I was would I have apologized for making the comment? Fuck me, is it dumb cunt day today?
-
ain try to actually READ what I wrote. I said, the repeated use of it (it being damn old at this point) in place of offering any real cricism of the film itself.
-
presume to know me, I dont own any Singer films, nor have I even seen any of his films since SR. Dont just pull shit out of your ass...
-
HA! Really kid? You don't see how insinuating EVERYONE who disliked Singerman has ADD bothered more than one person? Seriously, get your cunt ass of the computer and into bed. School tomorrow, junior.
-
I think if Posey was cast as Lois, Bosworth would've sufficed as Luthor's assistant. So basically just have them trade places! Also, I don't know if you've ever watched 'Californication' or 'Lucky Louie', but if the goal was indeed to make a true hommage to the Donner film(s), then Pamela Aldon would've been the perfect actress to cast as a true replacement for Margot Kidder. It's like, if you took Kidder circa 1978 (who certainly was admittedly more than a little on the homely side) and made her petite, twenty-seven times more attractive and actually...gasp...sexy, you'd have Pamela Adlon!

This is bullshit Routh will never play Superman again.. That pub
by ThaJackaL
You heard me right bitches TOM WELLING needs to be cast in this movie, and if he's not then I refuse to watch the fucking thing, and will bash it endlessly... Why? Because if BJ Routh is re-cast the movie will suck on epic proportions. Besides look at who the fans want! http://www.sodahead.com/entertainment/who-should-play-superman/question-1288813/ and look at this EW poll! http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs760.snc4/66091_1303288962037_1824892923_612118_3665834_n.jpg Again the people want TOM WELLING in the movie!
-
That's a fascinating story about Prowse; a hidden piece of movie history. While the end product may have proven the story incorrect, Lucas had, at one point, considered having Han Solo sacrifice himself in order to destroy the second Death Star at the end of JEDI. So, I don't think the man was lying. <p>Now, I'm curious to know if you have any other stories to you may like to share.</p>
-
I liked him as Superman and felt he got shafted by a mediocre film.
-
"The people" being Smallville fanboys who rape every Superman casting poll while norms don't care. The polls don't mean jack.
-
accuse me of insulting everyone when its you talking smack about anyone here that has said anything positive about Routh/SR? Wow...hypocrite much? And no I never insinuated a damn thing you fucktard. Unless you can show me actually saying that anyone that does nt like SR has ADD, then shut the fuck up, and go fuck yourself. I only said the ADD crowd would nt like it, and since I did NOT quatify who the ADD crowd is, then if you feel insulted, you must consider yourself to be a member of said crowd. Maybe reading and comprehension are not your strong points....
-
ecause you are taking things out of what I said. Is English your first language cuntstain? If so...Yikes!
-
Superman, and who plays him wwwaaayyy too seriously. Get over it you man child afflicted cunt, some people liked SR, its totally cool if you did nt, but no one is wrong/right for liking it anymore than you are wrong/right for disliking it.
-
accuse me of saying things I never did, or attribute meaning that is nt there to what I said? Because that seems to be the theme of the day...
-
and are all just hyper-sensitive?
-
The plane rescue and the bullet in the eye..everything else was nonsense. As a said up top about Routh, re-casting him makes no fucking sense it would be the same as if they had brought back Clooney or Kilmer for Batman Begins.
-
Funny, I thought the bulletproof eye (didn't even blink!) was one of the dumbest things in the whole film. I agree with the rest of your statement though.
-
Because he had to deal with bugs beforehand. Just sayin'.
-
He's had his shot. Let Welling step up, maybe.....but Routh's done in Hollywood already.
-
...what I ultimately enjoyed about his portrayal was that it was a very good Christopher Reeve impersonation. It appealed to nostalgia for the best of the previous Superman movie franchise, especially seeing as it came a few years after Reeve's untimely death. I'd love to see something new this time, something that cut away completely from the old portrayals.
-
is a moron of epic proportions.
-
The problem I have with that scene is that, when he shot him in the eyeball, it just fell to the floor, like all the momentum of the bullet was absorbed by Supermans eyeball. WTF? It should have ricocheted away or something. I'm sure it sounded cool on paper, but it came across as nonsense. In the donner-verse, not only can Superman go back in time, but he can also pull giant plastic sheets out of his chest, erase women's memory with a kiss, and now absorb the momentum of a bullet with his eyeball.
-
Oh yeah, and he can hear the world talking. IN SPACE. What a pratt.
-
Not space.
-
He's married to Courtney Ford, the actress that played the hot reporter in the Dexter season 4. Envy him.
-
"I certainly haven't been informed of that. They might want to run that by me. I don't know, I think unless Superman's power was the power of being really old... I maybe aged out of that competition." <p>-Jon Hamm.
-
Oct. 20, 2010, 7:07 a.m. CST
Jon Hamm would be great if he could put on 50 Lbs of muscle.
by mojoman69
He looks like the Alex ross version of SUpes.
-
Jon Hamm is too old for the role, bottom line, and he is smart enough to know it. What people don't think about on this site is that it's not just about what he looks like now - it's also about whether or not he'll still look good in 10 years, after a three picture cycle. At that point, the guy will be nearly 50. Forget it. Same goes for people who talk about Monica Belluci as Wonder Woman. Yes, she is hot as hell for her age, but she is around 20 years too old to play Diana. Bottom line, you need someone in their mid 20s. Arguably, now even Routh is too old.
-
SAG, nice to see you smacking down Hey_Kobe_Ass_Tastes. The man truly is mongoloid.<p> Another talkbacker cut a bit close to the bone on poor little Kobe when he realised the fool had 'daddy issues' and that's prob why the dead-beat dad thing has got him so riled up. That and the fact that he's a massive TRANSFORMERS fan (wouldn't suprise me if that's where TrannyApologist went too, or became, if you know what I mean).<p> Hey_Kobe has been in meltdown ever since, picking fights with big hitters that he could never hope to win.<p> Leave the mongoloid to drown in a piss pool of self-loathing. The deadbeat son of a deadbeat dad.
-
There is no credible candidate right now, and IMHO the casting is the reason why the film might never get made. Diana needs to look the part, and also to be built like a 6' russian polevaulter with DDs. With that costume, there's no padding.
-
...on 'Funny or Die'.com, where he played Lex appealing to Obama for stimulus funds for Lexcorp? Funny shit, and it makes you think: maybe everyone's lobbying for him for the wrong role. Doubt he'd shave his head tho.
-
good otherwise. Yeah, Kobe is both an asshole and as dumb as shit. God, I hope he is not an adult because otherwise thats just creepy/sad. My favourite is him calling me a hypocrite and hes busy just making shit up about me.

neither him or that moron deadbeat have yet to supply me or anyone for that matter, with evidence of me doing the things they accuse me of doing....All ive heard so far are crickets chirping. As I said if they want to accuse me of bullshit, then put up or shut the fuck up....
-
dead beat dad thing bothers Kobe so much. Sure explains a lot. Poor little Kobe and his daddy issues....
-
taking your shit with him out on me.
-
Those three words coupled with the topic of Superman would have to be the dumbest thing ever said on a talkback.
-
for a straight to video animated film......</p><p>Actually....even then it was pretty retarded. I mean Bruce Timm has done some amazing stuff with home video. The only thing I can think of that comes close to the rampant retardation of Superman Returns in a STV Superman film was when Supermantakes Doomsday to outer space....and instead of chucking him into the sun...decides to slam him into the center of Metropolis probably killing thousands of people! That scene would have been right at home in Superman Returns.</p><p>But let me address the one scene most people like in SR, the plane rescue. You may not realize it...but that scene is retarded too.</p><p>We've seen Superman rescue plunging planes before in both the original film and a deleted scene from Superman II in which he rescues a Concorde. Supes knows how to do this. You lift up from the bottom and fly it in. Seems pretty simple right?</p><p>For some un-fucking-believable reason, this time Superman decides to pull up on the tippy-tip of an obviously stressing plane wing....until it (surprise of surprises) BREAKS OFF! How did Superman become such a fucking MORON?
-
Ha ha, that was a good one. Was there anything in this movie that DIDN'T suck donkey balls?
-
Unfortunately it was all downhill from there.
-
It's good to know that you would consider seeing the upcoming movie regardless of your disdain for Snyder as you more than made it known on the boards. And hey, what's not to love about said project especially since it has Nolan's input as well as having Routh return? Now if it was to be directed by Bay or Abrams (Thanks for spreading the word about his planned "concept" of superman.)I would boycott the damn thing.Zac may be a hack in your eyes, but compared to Bay,Rob Zombie,Roth,McGee,Emmerich,PWSA and Ratner, the fucker delivers IMO.I'm very optimistic about the next supes film as it seems like a potentual hit.<p>BTW watch some of the Animated series which is one of the best interpetations of Superman.and for a damn cartoon, it says a lot.
-
...and as for Fatal attraction, great concept but the ending was very "PC". Michael Douglas' character came off as the good guy during the final 10 minutes.I'm surprised they show Glen's (Close) Hay-nanny during the sex scene. Can't totally hate on Lyne for filming that part.80)
-
I'm dead tired of his invulnerabilities and escalading powers. The way the writers of the movies and TV shows have com up to try to inject danger to Superman has became absurd. How many more types of kryptonite can they come up with? Absurd. Put a speed limit to Superman powers already! Otherwise, i can't give a fig about him. Without vulnerability there's no drama, there's no emotional connection. I might as well be watching a movie about a statue.
-
You know it's bad when I could see fucking Hancock 3x and not watch SR after the first viewing.<p>Nuff Said.
-
It just reflects your outlook on life.
-
You and southafricanguy have talked very highly of SUPERMAN: TAO, so i'm in the process of getting at least the first 3 episodes just to tpi my toe. If i like it, i'll get more of it. Thanks for the word.<br><br>Well, for me, all this situation about the new Superman movie is a half-empty glass, if you get my meaning. You know i'm a huge Nolan groupie, but the decision to hire Snyder as director disapoints me to no end. No, i can't see much of a good thing from it. Besides, Nolan cannot go about being in charge of both Superman and Batman 3. He's only human. And Batman 3 most certainly will be a big movie much like THE DARK KNIGHT was, if not bigger. How can he handle both? No, i'm certain that from now on, it's Snyder who's the man of the projec,t and this bodes very ill for the movie. Yes, i'll watch it because there's still that slimer of hope that nolan's interference, however small, might yeld more good then bad and outweights the usual Snyder's imbecilities and crapiness. But i'm not betting on it.
-
... fuck that shit, really. Fuck it. I have nothing but despise for that waste of time.
-
FATAL ATTRACTION was based on a play. they severely changed the ending, to such an amoutn they evne called it the "Friday 13th ending". In the play, as revenge she comits suicide and pins it on Douglas' character, and the guy is arrested and has his life ruined. Aparently, that stuff was even filmed, but thanks to the retard morons of the test audience, the studios got cold feet, turned yellow and changed the ending.
-
I haven't felt like that since Shyamalan's The Village!</p><p>There were very few enjoyable things about Superman Returns. I liked the guy playing Jimmy, he was funny. I thought Routh's Christopher Reeve Clark portrayal was entertaining if really old-fashioned. Just about everything else was at least annoying, if not completely putrid. Lois Lane is a bitch who apears to act like she's in the 30's serial. Brandon is skinny and in a gay pride parade suit. Langella...I don't know what the fuck he was doing. I think he thought he was in a horror film. Cyclops was solid as he always is but his character isn't fleshed out very much and he always feels like he's just there to keep Supes and Lois from slapping uglies. The kid is pretty annoying. Lex needs to shut the fuck up and I wanted to slap the sneer off his bitch's face.</p><p>Superman decides to take a tour around the galaxy for no real reason then returns to find everything completely fucked. He gets all weepy and emo while stalking his ex and being clueless to the fact that she has a son the exact same age he would be if he were his. But that never even dawns on him because Singer's Superman is so fucking stupid that when he overhears Lois telling her husband that she never really loved Superman, he can't see what ANYBODY can, that she's just saying that to calm her husband's fears. So he flies off crying like a fuckin' bitch.</p><p>Meanwhile Lex has decided to destroy half the world population in the hopes that the other half will buy the worst property ever fucking seen. When asked why the world wouldn't just blow him the fuck up, he says he's safe....because he weilds a crystal that....makes icebergs. And then we find out that Lex (who mysteriously dresses like Dick Tracey), the greatest criminal mind of our time....forgot to gas up the fucking helicopter and gets stuck on an island. You know...one of those Atlantic islands that are closer than the just-offshore iceberg. All this while Superman lifts a continent into space surrounded by Kryptonite and having a Kryptonite shard shoved into his fucking ribs. Yeah that jibes with what we saw in Donner's Superman!</p><p>FUCKING CHRIST what a piece of SHIT!
-
Fett, haha nice post!<p> Only prob is you make SUPERMAN RETURNS sound more exciting than it actually is!
-
I trust Nolan's input regardless of how more or less he is involved in said project, but I also believe that Zac will deliver the goods especially when it comes to utilizing superman's powers and fight scenes to gel/blend with a more solid storyline.<p>My problem with Hancock is that the movie came off a bit schzophrenic.Meaning, it didnt know if it wanted to be a comedy or drama.Good concept but wasted effort especially during the last 15 minutes with the dumb romantic subplot about lost loves.I saw something great during the first 20 minutes of the film. The idea of a fucking super powered jerk trying to fix his public image is a refreshing concept. And for the record, it should have been more comedic but not over the top like some Chris Rock movie.<p>I loath SR mostly b/c it went against the character's mythos and rehashed elements from the 1st film. A total artistic cop out IMO.Singer, who gained props for the 2nd XMen film, just screwed up the most iconic Superhero on celluloid and not even after valkyrie (a good film that i own a blu-ray copy of.)I have heard much of him ever since.<P>Not only do I recommend STAS, but checkout Justice League Unlimited as well.It gave me the impression of why Superman is SUPERMAN.
-
Now that's a review worthy of being an article on AICN.<p>Now that's an in depth and brutally honest review.
-
To replace him with someone who he undoubtably beat out the first time there was a casting call is an insult. Routh ruled as Superman (and in Scott Pilgrim) and I would really look forward to a new Superman movie starring him. Replacing him would be replacing for replacing's sake and you wouldn't find a better candidate than Routh. IN FACT...I'd also cameo him in Batman 3 and Green Lantern as reporter Clark Kent (which they ought to have done in the Dark Knight).
-
While heavily influenced by the John Byrne version of Superman (which is my favorite) it still had enough aspects of the Silver Age and Golden Age versions of Superman. The Superman from the animated series didn't have limitless powers, in fact, he struggled mightly against most of his villains, and needed a suit to breath in deep space for a long period of time. The Lois Lane in that cartoon, that Lex Luthor, all perfect.
-
True to all that, but I did like the airplane sequence. Damn we miss Chris Reeve.
-
WB execs if your reading this please give Brandon another chance as he is perfect as Clark Kent & as long as an actor can pull that part off the Superman hero stuff is much easier! No Routh= No interest from me!!!!
-
into a movie. And make Superman either gay or black. It'd mark a bold new era in superhero films.

Turd, just cause a movie's dated doesn't mean it's a bad film
by Coughlins Laws
I really don't understand your point. The first Superman was really good and the second one was a worthy follow up. But the problem is, it's too hard to make a Superman story that doesn't rehash itself. Since Superman is pretty much all powerful you have to do something to take his powers away. They've done it in every movie. It's just old. But "tacky" and "dated"? That's a stupid criticism...
-
Wait he just died? Wtf! RIP mister Cunningham.
-
Good Superman vs. Evil Superman. That was some epic shit! And it did have Brainiac at the end, even though it was a pretty fucked up mixing of tone by that point. It went from goofy comedy to almost horror when Brainiac cyborgizes that chick's body. But hey, it was better than Superman IV, HOLY FUCK was that bad! Interestingly it was supposed to be about Bizarro, but that plot point got completely cut out of the film because it came out so horrifically bad. It looked Superman beating up a retard! You've got to check out the deleted scenes on that flick. They're goddamn hilarious! Wait 'til you see Superman repeatedly chucking Lois Lane into the atmosphere and laughing his ass off!
-
I want to see a Superman movie exactly as you describe. Only Bruce Timm has got the tone and scope of Superman right and I would love to see it on the big screen.
-
i would love to see a movie version of that superman.have him flying around the world and being a prick to everybody.like Russel Crowe fighting around the world.
-
I have read the superdickery.com stuff and it's falling-from-the-chair-and-rolling-in-the-floor hillarious
-
He's good. I have enjoyed this season's Smallville quite a bit. Welling brings a nice understanding of the character and Erica D. as Lois hits all the right notes. He should get a shot in the tights.
-
"Superman Returns actually PISSED ME OFF!"<br><br>Now you know how i feel about Jar Jar Abrams's SHIT TREK, or any Michael Bay movie for that matter.
-
What Snyder's talents? He has any? Why i haven't seen any of those mythological talents he's supposed to have, then? If Snyder's talents like the proverbial invisible cat that only the people who believe in them can see?
-
Bryan Singer made THE USUAL SUSPECTS. and with the help of X-MEN 2, he gets a pass for life with me. And VALKYRIE is terribly underated. I say that and i can't stand Tom Cruise.
-
These days, when I think of the word "pretty", it's her and Elizabeth Banks who come to mind.
-
You can create an opposing force equal to his challenge. Christ, in sixty years of Superman comics, books, television, and so forth, you don't think there are a dozen good stories where they figured this out? They make the mistake of not looking at this wealth of material, and keep rehashing the same two or three ideas. Pitiful.
-
A restored METROPOLIS is a must for me. Cool news indeed. The only problem is that now i'll have to doubledip on the movie, because i have bought the previous Kino DVD. By the way, the first time i saw the complete movie, it was in a theater where there was a life piano performance plying the movie's real soundtrack. How cool is that? Very, very cool.
-
Superman is too powerful. The way the writers have come up to create tension while still mantaining Supe's escalading powers is just ludricous and counter-productive. Supes is a fucking god, and who can relate to a god, anyway? Take up a notch or two, i say. Stop making superman invulnerable, stop making Superman being able to lift islands and continents, stop superman being invulnerable to all arms and weapons on Earth, stop superman for being able to breed in space, stop superman to be able to fly without getting tired, just stop with the god powers nonsense bullshit.
-
the falling airplane.on the other hand, when he elevated the cryptonite-island,his powers suddenly escalated to god-like levels.talk about consistency.
-
Elizabeth Banks most certainly, specially as blonde.
-
You should had been there. Maybe for the american theatrical showings, some might have a full orquestral live play.
-
That's what i'm talking about. Superman stopping the airplane's fall, and having a bit of a trouble with, that's how Superman's powers should be seen and portait, and should evne be the height and the full extent of his power. The continent lifting, is WHAT SHOULDN'T BE portaited in Superman, be it movie or comic or TV show. There has to be a limit to what he can do, or else there's nothing to relate to him. Superman having limited powers can fuel more drama. Really, consider the second movie, and which part of that movie was when people actually felt sorry and concerned for Superman? When he lost his powers and got a beating from the big redneck in that artic coffee shop. That's what i'm talking about.
-
MAKE IT SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
that is all.
-
Superman Returns review was spot-on. I remember seeing it digitally. What a waste. Total forgettable garbage.
-
Do absolutely check out Superman:TAS. Besides being really fun, it does what you will like by putting a cap on Superman's powers. For example he cant go into space for any length of time without a space suit. And secondly, much like Batman:TAS, its pretty much the perfect portrayal of the character imho...
-
Superman Returns? Where do you stand on it? And for what its worth, I agree with you that for USUAL Suspects, and X-men 2 Singer gets to stay out of director jail with me. And Valkerye is indeed very underrated....
-
I am pretty much in agreement with you about the Donner films, and that there rreally has been no definitive Superman film yet ala the one two punch that is BB and TDK. I would like to see them use Doomsday as one of the villains purely becasue then they have a villain that can not only hurt Supes, but can kill him, all without needing to involve Kryptonite yet again....
-
that Asi so craves lol...
-
as bad as Superman 4 is (and it is) I still prefer it to 3. Now if you can stop yourself laughing long enough, hear me out. It at least has Superman fighting a super powered foe, and its trying to be a Superman film (a really bad one, but anyway...) while 3 is just a bad richard pryor comedy imho....
-
ted DVD film to see how damn sweet a full out fight between Supes and Doomsday would be...
-
just yet what kind of film we re going to get based on how little info we have. Snyder is directing, but if the script by Goyer is truly good, and Nolan is involved in the script, and in the creative decisons, then it could be a pretty good film imho....
-
southafricangoyl. You got your ass kicked last time, and no one likes you.

deadbeatcunt? Please show mw where I got my ass kicked. By you? Dont make me laugh you dumb fucktard. Im still waiting for you to present your evidence of me saying anyhting you accused me of....
-
its you no-one likes. I dont anyone else here spewing hate and insulting other people like you. But then English comprehension isnt your strong suit
-
serious daddy issues. Whats wrong deadbeat?...Do you have a deadbeat daddy? Did your mommy fuck lots of men, and now you dont know who your daddy is? So youre now going to take out your frustrationsd here in the TBs?
-
I (also) give Singer props for Ususal Suspects (great ensemble cast)Apt Pupil, not so much. Part of me is pissed that he bailed out on the 3rd XMen,(and we ended up with Ratner?!?) only to direct an underperforming adaptation of Superman.Seeing his track record from Suspects to X-2, I had great expectations but unfotunately, the end product failed miserably.Oh, and I respect your right to trash Jar Trek or Zac Snyder since me bashing Stalkerman or anything else I would take umbrage with is my right as well.<p>Fair game.
-
familiar with the whole story behind Singer and X-men 3. Did he leave? I always thought that Fox just fucked him over and kinda fired him. Or did he in fact screw then over?
-
... and not in a good way. untalented white trash.
-
How the hell ya been? From what I have read, Superman was Singer's "dream project" so when offered, he jumped at the opportunity and took (for the most part) James Marsden with him.He orginally pitched the storyline/remake to Richard Donner and the feedback was positive. As for FOX, I wouldn't be surprised if they fucked him over be it a payscale or royalties, thus making it more easier for him to bail out of the xmen sequel.<p>BTW I noticed that you too are a fan of Korean cinema, any recent recommendations? (I only watched the first 15 minutes of Mother via Netflix, but temporarly lost interest.)
-
partly because I live in Korea, thus I see them wether I want to or not. Im doing good dude, thanks for the info re Singer and Fox. I would highly recommend THirst (Bat in Korean) a seriously fucked up Vampire film that has a jet black sense of humour, and loads of sex and gore. There is shadow crime, which is an excellent murder mystery. Basically Its a Korean Sherlock Holmes, with the main characters being a private detective, and his friend a doctor. Also, there is a good time travel fantasy film called Woochi which is nothing deep, but is quite fun and entertaining...
-
Quite the contray, southafricanguy is one of the most well liked people in here. You, however... hey, who the hell are you anyway? Haven't seen you here before.
-
What's that south korean movie which many call it a remake of MAN ON FIRE? It sounds kickass and badass. A south korean Man On Fire movie has all potentials to be absolute mocie badass joy. I mean, look at what the koreans did with the basi trope of "this time it's vengence time" and made A BITTERSWEET LIFE out of it.<br><br>I liked SUPERMAN RETURNS. It's not a movie i'm in any hurry to rewatch, but it's hardly the monstruosity that many geeks claim to be. And as you, i think Routh was great as Superman, he looks the part and he can really act, as also seen in CHUCK. Routh looks like Superman, and the blue eye contacts didn't phased me. I mean, he's supposed to be a bloody alien, anyway.
-
So the guy who southafricangoyl has been stroking off here in the TalkBack comes to his "defense"?? Who saw THAT coming???
-
Yep, and look at how Hollywood has responded! The guy has starred in a BUNCH of movies since Singerma.... Ok, actually the guy has had his own show for 10 ye.... Shit. Alright, at least the guy was a part of the 2010 SMASH HIT Scott Pilgri.... Huh. Need I say more?
