James Cameron May Spend Some Time In Old Egypt Before Returning To Pandora!?

Merrick here...
THIS piece at Deadline says that Sony is talking to James Cameron about his possibly directing a large scale CLEOPATRA project. Angelina Jolie is already attached to the lead role and really wants to make the picture. Sources for the site describe the likelihood of the film moving forward with Cameron and Jolie in-tact as being "very real." Brian Helgeland (writer/director of PAYBACK and A KNIGHT'S TALE - scripter of MAN ON FIRE, Ridley Scott's ROBIN HOOD, and more) has already worked up a screenplay for the movie, which is based on Stacy Schiff's book CLEOPATRA: A LIFE (available early November, pre-orderable HERE). As it stands, the project would be PG-13 and, of course, shot in 3D. As far as anyone knows, this is the only project Cameron is mulling outside of his own instigation/creation. While I have hugely mixed feelings on the film itself, Fox's "Five Star Collection" of Elizabeth Taylor's 1963 CLEOPATRA film contains a 2 hour long documentary that I recall as being quite excellent - one of the best "Making ofs..." of its type. If you have the disc sitting around but have never watched that extra, check it out. The "Five Star" version should also be rentable, or it's available HERE. I once scored with a half-Egyptian girl who was dressed as Cleopatra. So awesome.
