Paramount Extends TOP GUN Sequel Offers To Tony Scott And Jerry Bruckheimer?? Writer Now Involved...

Merrick here...
Building on recent scuttlebutt that a new TOP GUN movie might possibly/kinda/sorta be in the works, THIS piece in Vulture says that Paramount has "made offers" to Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott to produce and direct (respectively) a sequel to 1986's TOP GUN. The Powers That Be are wanting Christopher McQuarrie (VALKYRIE, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, the upcoming WOLVERINE sequel) to do script work. Seems Cruise has agreed to reprise his Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell role, which is to be considerably smaller than in the first film. Vulture says one condition Cruise put on this abridged appearance was that his character not show-up in an obvious way (i.e. a flight instructor) - Vulture's sources say McQuarrie has found a way to accommodate this stipulation. More as we know more.
