Honestly big fan of him, watched his show all the time back in mid to late 90s, but is Smigel even on his show now, hes prolly got a bunch of college regects from the colbert report writing his jokes now. It's funny how all that so-called energy of Team CoCo

has now seemed to vanish. I don't wish ill on the guy, but it's become pretty obvious that the guy can't play in the big leagues. He's just not the same caliber of Carsson, Leno, Letterman in his prime, or even Jon Stewart. He's a decent comedy writer and that's about it. He never should've gotten his own show...

No, he isn't in the same caliber as Leno. Leno is terrible, while Conan is actually funny. To be honest, I don't even care that much for Dave anymore. I've seen clips from back when he was the host of Late Night on NBC and that was some great stuff. Now he's more known for stuff like The Top Ten List, which is usually anti-funny. Jon Stewart is doing a whole different thing. Conan's "energy" will come back if the show is good.

....was funnier than Conan at his best. <p>Leno is an older guy now...but he still relies on "everyday" humor that appeals to a much broader audience. Conan appeals to plenty of college frat boys (and wish-they-were-frat-boys).</p> Today, Letterman is just a cynic with the appetite of a dirty old man. Jon Stewart isn't even funny. Colbert is slightly funnier than Stewart just because he is odd and almost a fictional character.

Well, let me take that back. There's no way he'll get better ratings than Leno or Letterman. However, having gone to cable where there isn't ratings pressure, I guess they COULD spin his show as a hit. He had an offer to go on Fox, come on at 11pm with a half hour headstart on the competition, and he decided he wasn't up to it...

I disagree. Leno in his prime was ACTUALLY FUNNY. I will give you that. Compared to the stuff he does now, Leno was fantastic. But no one has made me laugh out loud more consistently over the course of ten years than Conan O'Brien.

That may be true -- but you aren't everyone. This is the problem with many TBers. Jay Leno makes quite a few people laugh out loud. They may not be "frat boys" (or "frat boy wannabes"). It may be a slightly older demographic. However, more people watch Leno (especially during his prime) than ever watched Conan -- even when he followed Leno during his prime. <p>Here in the TBs, many of the TBers will proclaim that their taste is "normal" and everyone else's taste must really suck. That is just not the case. I love Community AND the Big Bang Theory. I like THE OFFICE but loathe 30 Rock. I don't spit on 30 Rock. I just don't like it.</p> <p>The problem is that many people think that their view is the "mean" standard -- and that they just can't understand anyone who deviates from that perspective. </p> I have laughed out loud at Conan. I have laughed out loud at Letterman (rarely). However, many people prefer laughing out loud at Leno. This is the ONLY reason that NBC stuck with Leno instead of Conan. It wasn't personal. It wasn't even about one type of comedy versus a different type. Rather, it was a business decision based upon ratings. Leno draws more than his competitors. Obviously, there is a plurality of people who like him better.

lives in a basement full of burning Conan effigies, sticking Conan dolls with Conan-shaped needles. For reals, go to any talkback about Leno, Letterman or Conan, and you'll find him trolling about, practically frothing at the mouth to talk outrageous shit. Followed by 40 people responding to him, like 'what the fuck?' It's just sad. Obviously Conan 1) is funny 2) is successful and 3) didn't get a fair shake with The Tonight Show. Dislike his humor and defend Leno's all you want, but it's just unhealthy to ignore reality, and hold such an insane grudge for so long.
