Snyder says General Zod is just a rumor for his SUPERMAN reboot
Hey Folks, Harry here... and I hope to God that Zack Snyder's response to our friends at BADTASTE.IT's question about whether or not GENERAL ZOD would be the villain of his SUPERMAN film... well... you see, Zack said that General Zod is just a rumor - and I hope it stays that way. Like most of you - I have a deep affection for SUPERMAN 2 - but I have always disliked the notion of other Kryptonians showing up on Earth. It makes SUPERMAN less... special, in a way. As for what is going on with Nolan's production of Snyder's SUPERMAN - well, we know that this film is not related to the pre-existing SUPERMAN film - because Zack said so. As for Brandon Routh - Zack hasn't commented upon that, but when I was talking to Brandon Routh back before the Austin screening of SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - he told me that Thomas Tull, head of Legendary pictures, had sent him some super duper Physical Trainer to get him into full on SUPERMAN shape again. That said, that was a couple of months ago, before Zack became attached. Zack could want to make a complete and total break from the entire Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN saga - which Bryan Singer's chapter adhered to with Brandon. But that doesn't necessarily mean he'll recast the role, but honestly - given the hour or so I talked to Brandon - and hearing how much he wanted to play with the character and do something different than what he did in his first outing in the longjohns... it is possible. Now, I know everyone and their brother wants to KNOW what is happening on SUPERMAN - but you have to realize that with Zack coming aboard - everything changes in a sense. Zack is very much his own man - and for all we know - he could deliver the crazy ass SUPERMAN / DARKSEID film that I'd die for. He could go all BRANIAC with us. Zack could deliver one helluva DOOMSDAY film. There's no telling exactly what Nolan & Snyder will come up with. I just hope it is a BIZARRO WORLD story, but that's just a private little hope. SUPERMAN comic readers - what do you hope Snyder does with SUPERMAN?

Something that is an actual threat to Superman for a change.
-
...they should go for something completely different if they are going to start afresh.
-
End of!
-
Having the Doomsday/Funeral/Reign of the Supermen/Return of Superman would be awesome.
-
Bryan Singer really wanted Jude Law to play Zod, which I think would have been awesome. What's Nolan's role in this though? Sounds like the script is being written by "meh" screenwriter David Goyer, and, from the reports that came about, it sounds like the director was chosen by the studio. Is Nolan's name simply being attached to give the project some prestige (pun!).
-
Glad to hear it. Superman 2 is sacred ground, and I agree with Harry that bringing more superbeings to Earth ruins the uniqueness of Superman's situation.

Sigh... I wish Zack Snyder was just a rumor for the SUPERMAN reb
by Grace_Panda
-
Hope it ends up being true. I'm tired of Lex and I'm tired of Zod. Give us something new. I would love Braniac but we settle for anything different. Half the reason people are tired of Superman as a character is because he hasn't grown on film since the 70's. I'm not saying update him just give him something else to fight.
-
For a second there, I thought we were going to get a retread of Donner's horribly overrated "Superman 2". Just give us a proper supervillain like Brainiac or Darkseid.
-
may I suggest: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/pages/Cast-Spencer-Conway-as-Superman/161122837240569
-
Make him the Lexcorp CEO/World conquering baddie he has been lately. Give him the power suit or have him unleash Brainiac or someone. Just give Supes someone he can go toe to toe with and have epic battles a la Darkseid in that last episode of JLU, that's all I'm asking for. ANd Superman needs a sweet chin and alittle more build. Lets get away from the Reeves look.
-
or Doomsday. No origin story. We all know the origin. Big budget Death of Superman could be really good, but maybe too much of a downer as Superman would probably die in the 1st half. The rest could be a modified version of the arc from the comics. Several heroes try to fill his places, and succeed/fail to varying degrees. Ends with his resurrection. I don't know, maybe too biblical.
-
Except give him clown make-up and question-provoking scars.

"[B]ut I have always disliked the notion of other Kryptonians showing up on Earth. It makes SUPERMAN less ... special, in a way." <p> I think it absolutely supports the idea that Superman *is* special, because even with such god-like powers, he ultimately takes on a roll of a protector instead of a usurper. <p> Honestly, how many of us, if we truly had the powers of Superman, would be as altruistic as him (as opposed to just running rampant like Ursa, Zod, and Non...)
-
This'll be awesome. Just you wait and see.
-
I can't imagine that as a movie. Maybe one episode of a TV show like Smallville.
-
He's not visually striking as a character, and we all know Snyder likes to dazzle. I'd bank on at least 2 villains, one being Doomsday.
-
Tom Hardy officially cast in Nolan's New Batman - more here http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/tom-hardy-reunited-with-inception-helmer-chris-nolan-on-batman/
-
If Zac could have one of DC's baddest of the bad debut in a live action Supes Film, then I'll be more of a fan.Doomsday isn't that much of a better choice over Zod IMO.His only claim to fame is killing superman and of course we all know that he couldnt stay dead.
-
As long as they de-gayify, de-jesusify and de-stalkerify him then I'll be happy.<P> <P> And Bizarro, Harry ?, FFS grow up !!
-
Depending on the version, Brainiac has vast mental or technological powers, not the ability to consume mass quantities of Raisin Bran cereal. C'mon...
-
I read Superman in the 1960's and wish the movies would jump on that fun era. Didn't care for the previous movie, the Christopher Reeves were okay but lacked a lot. It seems Superman is either a tortured soul or too campy. Wouldn't mind some of the atmosphere of the 50's TV series.

lol thx
-
and the film is entirely re-cast, I'm ok with it. I thought Routh was alright, but I would like to see an older Superman this time. A more mature, rugged actor who can sell it like Reeve did.
-
Darkseid and/or Doomsday will be saved for the sequels. With Snyder on board we can expect a lot of green-screen spectacle, which leads me to believe it will be a sci-fi heavy story arc. Here's hoping Jon Hamm is cast as Superman and Carla Gugino as Lois Lane.
-
Darksied would be awesome! Zod can go to Hell!
-
I'm still mad that they're letting him write the Alien Prequel. That fucker should be run out of town.
-
Darkseid's appearing on SMALLVILLE for the final season, so save him for the next movie provided this one does well. I'd like to suggest Mongul, if only because he's one of the few Superman villains who can throw Superman through buildings and be a credible threat against the entire world. He also hasn't been seen much outside of comics and the animated series, so he's a fresher idea than Brainiac, Darkseid or Doomsday.

The problem with Superman is that eh is just to darn Super.<P> <P> Usually he has to be de-powered ( and usually whimpers like a cissy) in order to give the baddies a chance. <P> <P> Lets cut all the usual boring stuff and try and do something different --he could fight off a massive alien invasion-- Superman v The Decepticons !!
-
That is, no origin story, everbody knows the mythos and background. You would have to be living under a rock to not know who Superman is. Start the film in the middle of his career, Clark Kent having been Superman for a few years. Kick the film off with a insane action sequence, and for godsakes no fucking Superbabies or Superman Jr.
-
If Green Lantern is successful they will open up Superman's universe to more off world threats like Mongul, Darkseid, Braniac etc.
-
That's right, fellas... now arrives the propitious moment for Bobcat Goldthwait to reprise his famous innercity sociopath character that he honed to thespian perfection in the "Police Academy" movies.<P>C'mon, Zack... you know it's a killer idea. And while we're riding the creative casting wave: how about Norm McDonald as Lex Luthor?<P>(Damn I'm good.)
-
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
-
Really liked the potential of that.
-
Superman is a bit of a boring character isn't he.<P> <P> Outside of comicbook geekdom there are not that many stories to be told.<P> <P> Death of Superman may spike comic fans interest but how do you think all that Eradicator nonsense would go down with the general public. And Brainiac is a bit of a slow burn as well.
-
The Timm version was super creepy. Barring that, yeah Brainiac and eventually Darkseid.
-

-
Regardless of how good or bad Returns was, Routh was an awesome fit for Clark AND Supes and I'm totally in his corner when it comes to casting for this new movie.
-
I don't even care much about superman, but even I know Snyder would make a rocking doomsday flick.
-
I seriously doubt WB would screw with a reboot by letting Routh be recast. The financial risk is way too high. Sorry Harry, but Routh is not a decent actor at all. Don't blame singer either for his performance. I've seen Routh in 4 or 5 things and every time he was about as uninspiring as it gets. If Superman Returns was his only bad outing, then blame Singer. It wasn't though. He may be a nice guy off camera, but that doesn't mean he is a good actor. Calling his acting wooden is an insult to 2 x 4's. I seriously doubt WB or Snyder would jeopardize the relaunch of THE comic book icon, but having Routh back. Harry and company have to stop stumping for "actors" who give them the time of day so much.
-
I read somewhere that it would take excerpts from Birthright - re read the first. Chapter of this comic and it would be a stunning first act to set up the film. Remember Nolan is godfathering this and in Batman Begins he and Goyer set up an ideal for why Batman should exist - a terrible symbol to strike fear into criminals. In Birthright the first chapter takes international journalist Clark Kent into a war torn African country - the leader of which points out that one should never stand on the sidelines - make the most of ones abilities and make a difference - hence Superman becomes a symbol of hope. Now do a Nolan and put him in a real world context - a man with superpowers - he would be an international figure like a Dalai Lama or Gandhi - people would follow him and his beliefs and actions. A global icon - Now put him against a true threat to mankind. I want to see the Brainiac or Darkseid - give action and plenty of it but make us think and care about the characters
-
Mr. Mxyzptlk
-
yeah, we're not that lucky

Only if the cast Paul Giamatti as him.
-
"Calling his acting wooden is an insult to 2 x 4's." That was hilarious!

Who disparaged Superman in multiple interviews. In an interview with Wizard Magazine a few months ago, he spoke against Superman's primary color scheme. He's a HACK who has no business writing the Greatest Hero Who Ever Lived.
-
Intergalactic threats to Earth who pose a true physical threat to the Greatest Hero Who Ever Lived.
-
it's time for some drastic changes in the franchise. Bring on Brainiac and Darkseid! And I think Routh really should be recast.
-
He said Superman's iconic primary color scheme was an impediment and does not work for a modern superhero movie! Is this the guy you want writing Superman?! A hack who thinks he can impose his pretentious dark sensibilities on the original and greatest superhero?!
-
Emily Browning?! WTF dude she looks like an 11 year-old boy. Yeah.
-
But do you know what material is better suited to Nolan/Snyder's nihilistic worldview? Alan Moore's Miracleman...that shit is dark. Just imagine the battle and massacre of London, crazy
-
just adapt Superman: Secret Origin by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. You got your reboot right there!
-
Does that mean he's preparing us for a Superman/Batman flick in the future? Just wondering...
-
Superman deserves much, much better!
-
Have you seen Donners cut of II it is so much better then the original II.
-
Superman gathers up Tim Burton, Jon Peters, Kate Bosworth, every Lex Luthor script ever written, the brown-orange-and-blue Superman Returns gay pride uniform, every existing copy of Superman III and IV, plus most of the executive staff from Warner Bros. and hurls them into the core of the sun. The End.
-
Brandon Routh was just fine as Clark Kent/Superman in SUPERMAN RETURNS, but he was saddled with such a terrible script and a disappointing Superman costume. And now that he just turned 31 and has a few more miles on him, he fits the part even better. All they have to do is recast Lois (Emily Blunt, perhaps?) and pretend RETURNS never existed (Easy enough) and you're good to go.

of good. Truth, Justice, and the Ideal American Way! Goyer and Nolan better not write him as a dark, brooding character!

Having Lex Luthor be behind that sub-prime crisis would make for a riveting two hours.
-
Absolute perfection I would pay to see.
-
Setting aside the questionable publicity stunt motivation behind the original story, the Death and Return of Superman is uniquely unsuitable for adaptation into a 2 hour movie. The story had its moments when they could spread it out over months worth of issues in four different comic series. When you start to think about compressing it down into a 120 page screenplay, however, the many problems become manifest -- Superman has to die 30 pages into it, and has to come back ten pages before the end, which means the movie has no real star for its entire second act and most of its third act. In Superman's place are four different protagonists whose stories don't really go anywhere. The movie would have to anchor itself around Lois or Jimmy Olsen or something lame like that. My vote goes for a non-origin, pre-existing Superman story in a rebooted continuity, where he would just fight one of the more fantastical villains like Darkseid, Bizarro, Metallo or Braniac. Snyder can knock an action-adventure story about Superman out of the park -- a Superman film packed with weighty pretension and Christ allegory, not so much.
-
No charisma and a boring actor. Lose him!
-
Who does Snyder think he's going to get out of the cattle call that WASN'T seen by Singer? Henry Caville, DJ Fontana, Jared Padlecki, etc etc etc... They found the perfect Superman/Kent in Routh. His reviews in Scott Pilgrim ought to be enough to have him back. Synder's BS "different direction" excuse smacks of arrogance and ignorance. I think he ought to at least meet Routh. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Otherwise, your pick is going to be always second fiddle to Routh and odds are it's someone Routh beat out the first time.
-
Routh is Superman, and Superman is in the movie; there is no reason to not bring him back if Superman is coming back. A new movie with no connection to the old ones would work jsut fine with Routh. Superman does not need to change just because the reality does.
-
1st movie: Superman and Lex Luthor in an uneasy alliance versus Brainiac. establishes cosmic threats as well as Luthor as a credible threat without the movie lacking explosions. 2nd: Superman versus Doomsday. throw in some hints about the Fourth World, maybe like the Grant Morrison idea of having the New Genesis residents trapped in human bodies. 3rd: Doomsday was a weapon of Apokalips! Darkseid comes down now that Superman is dead, and invades Earth. Superman is revived via whatever-the-Hell, and fights Darkseid and his forces . Happy ending for Earth. These are just major plot points, so don't crucify me about character development and sub-plots, please. I set up the story-line similar to the original Star Wars.
-
I only read the Doomsday arc. I wonder how many people actually keep up with tghe comics and the villians (as I wonder how many actually do read comics still). SO that means that it really is an open field to write a screenplay. If you think about it, most movue going audiences are only familiar with the Superman movies, or perhaps some cartoons. Just my opinion, but I think they should just work on a killer story (with or without a comic villain). It's nice to stay with the source material, but Nolan showed with Bats that you can deviate a bit and play with it to make it a solid movie going experience.
-
Zod's been done and done well. Don't retread it. Routh was a great Superman. Keep Routh.
-
Seriously. I saw Superman Returns in theatres twice. Both times, everyone under the age of 20 were lost. They didn't know he was from another planet, didn't know who Lex Luthor was, etc. I was stunned, but to me it showed one of the major missteps of what Singer tried. It's no coincidence that something like 70% of the audience for that movie were over 20. Superman should appeal to all ages, but he needs to be reintroduced in order for that to work.
-
His Superman was filled with compassion, decency, and quiet strength. Also, his look is just right and he has become more muscular since Superman Returns.
-
Sure the movie didn't really have a villain in it and that's not Routh's fault. He rocked it. He should get it again.
-
...in the FIRST Superman film by Richard Donner. By Superman 4, she looked like Clark Kent's creepy aunt.
-
Superman is one of our most iconic modern character, yet his popularity has waned dramatically since the Reeve films of the 80s. That was one big reason that younger audiences hated Superman Returns: they felt lost and disconnected from the character. <p> I wish they'd take sort of a "Dark Knight" approach to Superman. Do an origin movie that explores who he is and why he's such a good, moral, upstanding guy. Make the villain out to be Braniac or some other alien menace that only Superman can handle. Have Lex in the background, maybe even let him be an ally of Superman's for a while. Then make the second film a real epic with Superman vs. the Eradicator, with Lex in the background once again. Finally, unleash Lex and his plans for world domination in Part III to wrap up the trilogy.
-
<br><br><br><br>Superman's been corn-holed by Hollywood again and again. By now, he's a 70-year-old pissed off Kryptonian with a real attitude. Unless you want to get bitch-slapped into the 30th century, I'd make damn sure you don't tug on Superman's cape. Again.<br><br><br>Just sayin'.<br><br><br>
-
Then ditch him after 5 weeks of filming! THAT'S how you make a great movie!
-
Wrong. The Death of Superman storyline could be done between two movies. Leave with a big cliffhanger in the 1st movie. Do the resurrection in the 2nd.
-
I hope Snyder delivers a 20-minute movie stretched out to 150 through use of slo-mo! And, considering his c.v. to date, it looks like I won't be disappointed!
-
Does anyone else get the impression that Singer went with Routh and other bland actors like the Jimmy Olsen clown, because he thought they were oh-so-cute?
-
You nailed it. And so did he. Bring back Routh.
-
But don't give him no lines again! Haha!
-
I'm glad to see the amount of respect he's getting in these Superman talkbacks. I thought he did a pretty good job with what he to work with and definitely deserves another shot at the role.
-
..from another wacky invention by Professor Pepperwinkle!!! And I still want to see Patrick Stewart as Egghead in Batman 3.
-
I thought he was quite good in the role and Krypton Kid's take on him was bang on. Let him don the right costume and play the role with the right script. I doubt TPTB will let it happen but I'd love to see him in the role again.
-
Just make the movie good. The villain could be Lex Luthor again for all I care. As long as its a good movie. If The Social Network has taught us anything (and it has taught us much) its that a good movie can be made about any lame subject. And don't forget, a lot of people know Zod from the Comics too- and he is a pretty nifty villain and rival for Superman.
-
And you can have Lex Luthor floating about. He's always good as a wild-card and one of the best uses of Luthor is to have him team up with Superman at the very last second. Like Superman has everything handled except Brania pulls some last minute genius move, and it looks like the day is lost until Luthor turns out to have thought one step past Braniac, saving the planet despite being an evil shithead. This was taken to the ultimate extent in Red Son, where Luthor starts out as a mass murdering maniac who is allowed to do whatever he wants by the US gov't and ends up [SPOILER ALERT] fathering a line of descendents that eventually ends in an "EL" (as in "L for Luthor") descendent going back in time to become superman!.... and this was just a tacked-on bit in the epilogue. Man Red Son was awesome!
-
Make it happen!

Give Routh the true costume, a proper actress for Lois, and a villain which will allow him to take flight as a two-fisted, larger than life Superman. In Returns, Routh proved that he can capture Clark's quiet, subtle moments, now give him the epic material that will allow him to be dynamic Superman that we know he can be!
-
Armie Hammer is my new pic for clark.
-
He's goals are stupid
-
Superman could stop him from turning Earth into a new Warworld!
-
An older actor to play Supes. Someone who looks more mature. Also, a more seasoned looking Lois. Ah, hell, just bring in Welling and Durance. But Superman better be wearing the Red, Yellow, and Blue with the wide neck. And he better be punchin' shit. There was that great scene in JLU where Supes says something like, "I've always had to hold myself back for fear of hurting someone. Now I don't have to worry about that and I can finally let loose." And then he commences with the ass whoopin. I think it was against Darkseid. Snyder, take notes.
-
No seriously...no more Luthor(unless its a cameo) no more Zod. Give us something new...Brainiac,Bizarro,MotherfuckingDARKSEID!!!!! Snyder is just the man to give us something we've never seen before...as long as the WB is willing to pony up the budget. Superman IS DC Comics..hell,Superman IS Comics. Period. This movie needs to be bigger than life.
-
He could keep the story grounded and have Mr. Snyder bring a more realistic take to Superman. That notion has been met with mixed reactions ever since Nolan became attached but in my opinion, it's exactly what a new Superman movie needs.
-
This is the best way to take Superman films in a new, exciting direction!
-
Do it.
-
Not his fault Singer sucks.
-
Doomsday I think should be set up in the first film to show up later and it could be done easily via a newspaper clipping of Lexcorp firing a scientist for his inhumane project in space dealing with human DNA, cloning and Survival of the fittest mentality in a secret space lab which was the origin i believe of Doomsday in the comics.
-
If Darkseid shows up, I hope he's not a massive Storm cloud like Galactus lol.
-
Superman is fantastic! The ideals he fights for are real, but his powers and his villains are big, colorful, and extraordinary. Trying to impose that sort of realism on a Superman film which deprives him of villains who can match his pwoer is an absurd kind of contradicton. I hope Nolan is smarter than that.
-
did I spell it right? he's like a super ultra leperchaun that rode on a cloud. On second thought, that would totally suck but so did the last movie. Bring back Terrence Stamp as General Zod. Old mean and wearing a sparkly unitard.
-
How Routh won everyone over, when everyone hated the pics of him that first appeared online. Not sure it makes sense to reboot and keep him, but I hope he gets another shot.
-

They're not about to throw out the Nolan grandfathered script
by Chewtoy
...and start over with a different villain. At best, they could take what they have and tweak "Zod" into a different character, but the whole thing is that this movie needs to get underway quickly because the creators families have sued to get back at least partial rights to the character. They supposedly passed on Aronofsky because they felt he'd take too long trying to fix the script before they started.
-
Routh is perfect for the role and earned the right (after slumming through SMR with dignity) to be Superman in a story that pushes the character to physical and emotional extremes. There is absolutely no reason existing arcs can't be woven into a new story that simultaneously resolves open threads and launches the franchise in a new direction. Nolan has well established his deft ability to seamlessly intertwine complex stories and, while giving each its due, highlighting the threads that are meant to resonate the most with the audience.

-
...IS!!! But that ain't happening. Brainiac would be best, or Doomsday could work too. But since Doomsday is a mindless engine of destruction, there'd have to be a backup villain to add personality to the villainy and I'm afraid that would have to be... Luthor... again. But they could save it if they went with "the evil corporate titan" Luthor who manipulated events from afar. Please, no more whacky, real-estate-scheme Luthor!
-
But I think it would be great if it was made to feel like our world is being depicted with a superhero in it, like Nolan's Batman. Not saying it should be exactly like that. C'mon, it's Superman! But the tone could be different from the previous films. Put Superman in a world that has just suffered a recession, is currently fighting wars, with partisan politics, texting, the internet, and where people will have a great number of reactions to Superman. Not saying the previous films didn't do this but I never felt it. But you can say that's just not Superman. It's something I personally would want to see.
-
This is a being whose whole objective is to subjugate every living thing on the earth and bring about misery, pain and an anti-life state for all who live here. He's done it to his home planet and it's a totally destroyed war-like world. It'd be awesome to see Supes have to take him down and they could also use some other DC characters in the story to help do it. They don't have to use Batman and Wonder Woman or any Justice League type thing either. There could just be the suggestion that they are too busy fighting fires in their own regions. If DC loaned them 2 or 3 kick ass characters to use in assistance of Superman, you could end up with a real DC comics feel Superman in the fight of his life against Darkseid and an advance army of his shock troops. Seeing Darkseid along with cameos from Orion, Green Lantern and The Flash would be absolutely awesome. Seeing Superman in an invasion-type film would be a new experience and something to really test him. Seeing some of Darkseid's dogs of war rip apart civilians and terrorise Metropolis would be an undeniable shock to what's become a dusty old franchise really. A darker half-way-to-Watchmen style would absolutely revitalise the tone of the series to something we can all walk away from thinking "holy shit, did all that really just happen?" That'd show every fan who only knows Lex Luthor something so different that it'd actually make big money.
-
are part of the Superman mythology. There's Zod, who is trapped in the Phantom Zone , Supergirl etc. with Brainiac tied into Krypton's history. Not that they should be used all at once and they should make Superman the lone alien on Earth, for a while at least

I really hope the guys behind this new superman franshise aren't listening to the whole "We don't need another Origin!!!" thing too many people screaming about. His origin story may be well known, but I want these new guys to start from scratch and characterize Clark Kent/Superman in their own way. In comicsx, there are MANY origin stories for superman that have been published in not that long of a time. Off the top of my head, there was the man of steel origin which was good, then there was 'Birthright' which was better, and recently Geoff Johns (a comic book god in my opinion) did Superman Secret Origins and it was BRILLIANT. Origins aren't about the background info, its about defining a character and, with a character like superman, letting the character evolve in similar but new ways...<br><br>Batman Begins was so great because of the origin, and everyone knew what Batman's origin was... would you all have preferred Batman Begins didn't have an origin story?<br><br>And there will come a day where my kids will watch a superman movie and if all I can show them is the Donner movie, the kids would probably laugh at how cheesy it looks.<br><br>And there's alot to be said for having a "set" of movies... I go out and buy back issues of comics or graphic novels that complete the story--origin to present so I have the FULL stories.

She's a class act.

As announced on all the geek movie sites, DAYS AGO (way to keep up with the news Harry). Routh knows he is done, which is why he just signed onto another movie to keep busy. Again, all the geek movie sites reported Routh signed on because he wasn't getting Superman, and if he was in line for the role, he would have kept himself free. Harry, do you honestly not read any other movie site, or keep up with the news at all?
-
How exactly can Superman have a physique it takes a human being HOURS of weights a day to produce...when nothing really weighs anything to him? He should decondition like an astronaut in orbit, and be a pot-bellied Wimp of Steel.
-
His only weakness, the shade! And watch out for his deadly, nails! He was awesome.
-
Every Superman fan I know hates him for his weakass performance. Directors won't cast him as the lead in any movie, because they know his is too weak to carry it. Superman deserves better than a reject who was cast because he vaguely resembles a dead actor.
-
Superpower: Despite his advanced age, he continues to shit like clockwork.

Brainiac can take human form. His history has ties to Krypton. He can get into a massive fist fight with Superman. He looks cool.

He really does not speak in the simpleton urban tongue like many believe. it's just that the majority of FUCKING RETARDED youth culture does and it makes them comfortable to hear it from him.(bitch)

Routh may suck cock like a pro but that hasn't improved his acting any.
-
I feel bad for Routh having to watch another guy be Superman but I would prefer a tougher looking actor more suited to action/fight scenes.

Would be the most expensive movie ever and it'd own.

Routh made an excellent Superman. He was the brightest spot about the last film.
-
Mister Mxyzptlk. You would have the biggest balls in all of cinema, nay the world, to translate that story into a movie. Even bigger than Watchmen I would argue.
-
yeah. no 2 hr and 20 minute version please. superman kinda sucks. make us a 90 minute one please. kthx.
-
http://www.moviesonline.ca/2010/10/zach-snyder-talks-superman-villain/ They, unlike Harry, keep up with the news.
-
It'll be a crisp and easy to understand story. That's what works best for Superman. I doubt Routh comes back. I'm hoping for a complete revision of the Superman world, absent a prolonged origin story, new cast, and far better realized villains.
-
Where you do you from there? Same with Doomsday... actually, Doomsday is not a character, Doomsday is a plot device, a fight scene, so he shouldn't be used in a movie. Brainiac is the most viable option, I think. Maybe Parasite, with Luthor pulling the strings? Bizarro feels like a sequel-type of villain. What about a full-scale Apokoliptian invasion with a Darkseid reveal after the credits?
-
there is hope for her!!!!!!!!!!!1 yay keep watching people!

Just jump into that shit like reading an awesome Superman comic on ur pal's shitter randomly dumbass. FUCK ORIGINS YOU ASS CLOWN

Brainiac/Bizarro can give you, but with the benefit of not being a rehash.
-
Really, that's all there is? That has to be better out there than that. Surely? Just riffing of Stamp is an admission of defeat. I liked Routh a lot too but it was a Christopher Reeve impersonation. Very nice n'all but let's do something original and unique with this and just let Donner go. There's some great moments in his films but let's face it they were highly compromised as adaptations. There's nothing to stop them from really making this something fantastic. Let's aim high here. Keep Law, Spacey and Donner out of this.

by The Krypton Kid
-
There's your script!
-
Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge Superman fan; I've read the comics for years, have watched all the movies, own statues, posters, etc. While I absolutely love for Routh to be given another shot at the role, I doubt it will happen. To me, he was great casting but given overall a boring role, and I don't feel like he's truly reached his potential due to being in static roles or from bad direction. There are moment in Returns where he shines, but I really would like to see him throw some punches. However, I think the studio heads and the audience would tie him too much to Returns, plus all the talk about Routh doing another movie. And if this is a total revamp, then people would be left wondering where the kid is, as well as Marsden. It's quite sad to me and I'm glad to see most of the people here sharing the same sentiment; he was a great man of steel.
-
I still say keep Brandon Routh, we'll forget about Superkid and Kate Bosworth.
-
It is sad. As soon as Routh shows his face in the 'sequel' trailer people would assume more of the same from 'Returns. The casual movie-goer won't accept him and $'s lost before it opens. For a studio, that's just unacceptable. Unless they fashioned a trailer where he punches the shit out of someone or burns somebody to a crisp with his heat vision. I guess we'll see, but i think Routh is out.
-
How could no one be suggesting Lobo? You want action and someone who can go toe to toe with the big blue boy, there you go. Also with Snyder we might get a real bad ass Lobo. Not some blue skinned tough guy with a heart of gold that buddies up with a kid movie that I heard they were shopping around last year.

"Zack Snyder hasn't commented on casting Routh"?!<p> Harry, what the hell do you think these hundreds of other news sites have been reporting otherwise then? On day one of the Snyder announcement, he told the press Routh was done. It's one of the biggest movie news stories of the past few weeks. How the hell can you run a movie news site and remain ignorant of this?!
-
Seriously, if its a re-boot, Routh isn't coming back. Routh was playing Christopher Reeve playing Superman. There's so many better actors, many who aren't on anyone's radar, would be great for the role.

It used to be the first site to break geek movie news. Now we get stories weeks after it's been reported everywhere else. At most other sites, news it up within hours after it breaks. Nolan's involved still, despite with Snyder directing.
by Nautilus_nrm1
The movie will be grounded into hyper-reality as much as is possible for a Superman movie. And I think it is a likely goal to see a Worlds Finest movie at some point, so the they need to exist in the same universe. I'd expect nothing less than serious acting talent all the cast, like Nolan did with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Think of actors capable of Oscar level performances, because that's what Nolan and Snyder are looking for on-screen.
-
Christopher Reeve! With today's tech it can easily be done.
-
and have metallo pound on him in downtown metropolis in the third act
-
if Routh is in, I'm out, period. I won't even watch that shit for free after his utter failure in Returns.
-
Even the few Routh defenders here admit he was wooden in Returns. They just hope he can be better next time. But you can't suck acting ability through the end of a dick, so that ain't happening.
-
that he wasn't Chris Reeve<p> He did a good job with what he was given to work with
-
Would be cool to see Superman briefly in Gotham, flying past Bruce atop a tall building looking on. Don't know what he'd be doing there besides giving me a semi.

I would really like to see either Brainac or a Darkseid storyline/film....both are pretty kickass villains in the Superman mythos and characters that have never been brought to a live action film before.

Fortunately he can still earn money turning tricks in back alleys, since studios won't pay him to star in movies.

-
One is cool, intellectual and reserved, the other is lurid and infantile... I just can't imagine how this will work. Frankly I would expect Nolan to "really" be in charge, and for Snyder to submit to his will; indeed, was't Zack hired partly (or largely)because he was seen as sort of not caring that the script wasn't all there? He'd just do what he was told...
-
Lets see how he looks in Smallville's finale.
-
is fucking retarded ... that and killing off Two-Face really piss me off ... no reason why Supes and Bats cant be in the same fucking world... only effing Nolan believes this notion- nobody else agrees with him!

Open up one of the comic books today! Hell look at Alex Ross's artwork!!! FFS!!! We need a man who is big, well built and that commands respect! A friggin leader of men! One with such a composure you know you don't want to fuck with him! There can be no room for doubt! Snyder! If you're listening! You had the balls to cast a big 100 foot tall naked blue man! Now I want you to find and cast a totally super awesome superman! With Muscles! Big! I want something with power for whom I can believe bullets can bounce off his chest and who can stop a moving bullet train simply by standing in front of it! A man with a face of dignity whose jaw can rip through metal when he bites it! Look at an Alex Ross illustration of Superman and give me that! And don't listen to the fools who will go on about that being homoerotic... It isn't! Routh in his tighty tights and the small little 's' is as 'homo-erotic' as you can get! That's what those people prefer on the whole! This needs the sort of football player built guy, like Arnold in Commando, or someone you cast in 300! With all respect to Reeves, we're tired of that, now give us a SUPER Superman!
-
he had the face of a 12-year-old. Seriously, he looked like an adolescent. Maybe they need to go to Australia to find a "man" actor, but SuperMAN needs someone who lookes like he shaves.

You guys give Harry shit for not knowing what's going on then just forget this is a year one Superman? <p> ARMIE HAMMER FOR SUPERMAN. <p> Anyone who's seen the social network knows there is no better choice.
-
at the same time. Synchronicity...
-
Your 100% right about that. Nolan is a brilliant story-teller within his own defined perimeters. He can't dish-out the fantastic in a awe-inspiring way, so will likely bring it down to street-level where he can master that and only that.
-
No thanks
-
Lucas Black. Remember him? The little kid in SLING BLADE? He's in his 20's now, and looks like a more dignified Sam Worthington who can act. Seriously, give him 40 lbs. of muscle and he could be it...
-
I hear that Lucas Black prefers to play only southerners due to his huge drawl. He has apparently stated that he can't master other accents.
-
They are going to have to come up with something really good if they want to top the last movies villain of a big rock.

some hot gay guys fuck Youngblood up the ass repeatedly and intensely so he can find out how awesome it is and stop his butch faux-homophobic posing. You know you want to be spitroasted by Routh on one end and Singer on the other, Youngblood. Give in. Stop fighting your nature.
-
google Ninja Sex Party. Danny Sexbang for Superman.

I want to see superman pissed. You know, like when you see his silhouette, and his eyes are glowing red, and he is ready to Kick. Some. Ass. Give him a reason to be pissed, and let him off the leash, a la Superman v Darkseid in the Justice League Unlimited cartoon. And personally, I like Brandon Routh. But how do you separate him from Superman Returns? Kevin Spacey makes a great Lex Luthor, but he's the WRONG Lex Luthor. I want the evil genius who becomes the President, not some old lady swindling low life.
-
...REALLY should watch this. <p>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al7FeEZrH1E&feature=player_embedded <p>Now THAT'S a "Superman" I'd pay to see.
-
Is that a joke about Worthington's inability to master non-Australian accents? If it's true it's too bad. (Black did have a southern accent in GET LOW, which is the only grownup role I've seen him in.)
-
Lets give Doomsday a shot and do a sort of doomsday and death of superman storyline, where everyone thinks he died but he comes back and beats him, that could be the main storyline. In the beginning we can have a deranged toyman to go up against superman akin to scarecrow's role in dark knight and lex as a minor character who in the end finds Brainiac. And like that, boom you have the setup for a villain in the sequel, Brainiac. Lex can also make his presence felt in the political scene to get some power.
-
In an alternate Superman-Die Hard universe, as Hans Gruber falls towards certain death, Supes swoops in and saves the greedy bastard. You see, Superman was so busy with other stuff, that he just wasn't paying attention to the shit going down at Nakatomi Plaza when he did a flyover of Los Angeles. He thought Hans was a hostage being thrown out the window. After Sgt. Al Powell explains to Superman what is really going on, Supes hands over Hans to the LAPD. Twenty-three years later, Hans escapes from prison, aided by an old friend, Lex Luthor. Enraged and ashamed of his failure, Hans sets out to enact revenge on John McClane, and Superman, while also repaying Lex for getting him out.<P>Superman / Clark Kent: John Hamm (after a workout regiment)<P>Hans Gruber: Alan Rickman<P>Lex Luthor: Russell Crowe (cue-bald)<P>John McClane: Bruce Willis<P>Lois Lane: Lena Headey
-
Give him a shot at a non-boring SUPERMAN movie.
-
Zod in the First, Doomsday in the second, Find out Darkseid was the puppet master for the first two and all three in the third. You know, something they'd do in the comics.
-
ZOD: Hugo Weaving
-
"just a rumor for now" which in Hollywoodspeak means "yeah it's Zod but we can't tell you that yet." <p> By the way I'm all for Zod if they do it right and set him up as the anti-Superman, wanting to save humanity from itself by bringing order and stability to a greedy, wartorn planet like ours, while Superman wants to set an example by helping people to encourage the world to save itself, to show humanity that it's ok to help each other. <p> My god this rumored plot about Superman traveling the world wondering if he should become Superman is so against who the character is supposed to be. He doesn't wonder if he should go out and help people, he tries to figure out the way to do that. Start with him in Africa and have him see the pain and suffering of millions. All his powers are useless in this situation. So he decides that he's not going to change the world, he's going to help people as best he can and to do that he puts on a costume and goes out to fight crime and give people a chance to live and grow. <p> The world looks at him as some sort of saviour but he doesn't want that. He just wants to help people. When Lois gives him the name, Superman (him giving it to himself is all kinds of wrong), he rejects it. He's not some pinnacle of human progression. He's just someone trying to help. But his actions start to inspire people to help themselves and he begins to realise that this name they are calling him isn't about him, it's about an ideal. He isn't Nietsche's Superman. He's the worlds Superman. A being who is physically superior but embodies the best traits of humanity for the benefit of others. It's not about self determination or strength of will. It's about wanting to help. Nothing more. And the world is inspired by that. <p> Along comes Zod, someone who is more in line with Nietsche's Superman but in some ways, a perverted version of that idea. Zod wants to save humanity to but to him the best way to do that is to rule with strength. This puts him at odds with Superman and leads to inevitable conflict. <p> At the end of it all, Superman saves the day and begins to wonder that given the destruction caused by Zod, is it too much? Should Superman be out there doing what he does? He can't be an icon, a symbol of hope, can he? And he discovers that if by helping people, he helps the world to see itself in a new light, in terms of peace and hope and being there for each other, if he can inspire one person to help his fellow man, then that's his role, that's what Superman is. Someone to be inspired by. Not a god, not a superior being, but a man who chose to use his powers to help and not hinder us. <p> And there's your fucking movie Snyder!
-
Exactly why we need an origin movie. Exactly. Besides, Superman's origin is one of the most iconic, definitive stories in all of pop culture. It's a good story and about the only Superman story worth remembering. <p> People dumping all over "an origin movie" are being a bit selfish. Origin movies are fun if done right--just look at Batman Begins, Spiderman, or Iron Man--and a good origin movie defines and sets up everything to come in the franchise.
-
Routh isn't gay! How dare you! He is only gay for pay. I'm sure Routh dies a little inside every time a casting agent unloads his wad in him. Does that make you feel better?! If you were less cruel, you'd be happy for Routh to be gay instead. Homophobe.
-
Then they would have a combo picture to battle Marvel's Avengers!
-
One of Nolan's first interviews on the Superman movie said it would be a standalone non-origin movie.<p> GOD NOLAN HAS SPOKEN! AS IT HAS BEEN SAID, SO SHALL IT BE DONE!
-
or Lobo...oh, and Routh for Superman!
-
First movie should involve Brainiac-with Luthor in the background <br>Second movie should involve Doomsday-with Luthor in the background-with a hint of Darkseid throughout the movie and in the ending climax to give the second movie a darker mood.<br> <br>Third movie should involve Darkseid-with Luthor in the background THE END<br>
-
I liked that.
-
Good plan Lazarus. Do it WB! Make the fans happy. Rake in the money.
-
Start with Zod. He's the perfect origin villain. Then movie on to Brainiac. Then Darkseid. you can put Metallo in the Brainiac film and Doomsday in the Darkseid film. Then I suppose there's Mongul. But at the very end, in the last film have Lex Luthor fight a mortal Superman. No super suit for Lex. Depower Superman and have them go toe to toe as equals in a straight up brawl (after a fight with Eradicator to please the super fight fans of course).

... as Superman has to really step his game up to deal with a full-on invasion of Earth, culminating with him going mano-e-mano with Darkseid or Mongul. THAT'S the Superman movie I want to see.
-
In the comics.. the 1986 Man Of Steel reboot / John Byrne, still, to me, stands out as a great reboot. Superman's powers were toned down. Lex Luthor was a business man, not a mad scientist. And.. it was fun read. If they are to reboot this franchise, they should used this book as a point of reference. The animated series had Brainiac as a a sentient AI which was responsible for the destruction of Krypton. If I were working on this project, I certainly would look into having Brainiac as the main villain.. Create a Metallo henchman.. Use Lex Luthor's resources.. along the way, Superman has to defeat Metallo and Brainiac... and the end of the movie would leave a question period as to Lex Luthor's involvement.. dupe? or sly villain.. and would lead to a second movie .. where Lex Luthor now gets to flex his muscles.. testing Superman, trying to find his Achilles heels.. Maybe the remnant of Brainiac to investigate.. etc.. Anyways.. Clearly, there is so much potential with Superman and he's got such a rogues' gallery. Surely, one would hope that Snyder/Nolan would pull something good from that.
-
It will be awesome. I really hope they throw in some Clark angst too. Maybe he can still be pining for Lana! Awesome.
-
If Warners were going to explore the Justice League then I'd have a Superman movie where Superman fights Doomsday. Not at the beginning of the film, but at the end. And of course Superman dies. The film ends with Superman's funeral and as Lois is speaking at the service, dozens of Boom Tubes open in the skies of Metropolis and Darkseid's forces stream through. The world looks up in the sky...it's not a bird or a plane or even Superman. It's pure evil and there's nobody to save them. Cut to Black. Credits. <p> The Justice League movie would then open 6 months later with a conquered Earth and the worlds heroes divided, in hiding as Darkseid seeks to bend the human race to his will. Orion comes to Earth, takes Superman's body back to New Genesis and the Man of Steel is brought back to life to return home and gather the worlds heroes to fight Darkseid. <p> I've got some epic stories in my head when it comes to Superman. As a screen writer it would be my dream job. Maybe someday.
-
Fuck the birthing matrix and turning Superman into a pussy. This idea that Superman is too powerful reeks of no imagination and bad writing. Sure, he shouldn't be juggling planets or blowing out stars, but he shouldn't be flinching at bullets either. <p> Actually the Byrne reboot gave us some great things like tycoon Lex and the best adaptation of Superman came out of that in the Timm animated series. But the problem with that series is that everything was right except Superman himself who was a hot headed idiot. <p> You want the perfect Superman movie? Take the Superman from Morrison's All-Star Superman and put him in the Bruce Timm Animated Series and shoot that.
-
MOVIE 1: Brainiac/alien invasion story, just to reestablish the character. Remind everyone why SUPES is great and what fun it can be. Make people give a damn again. MOVIE 2: Doomsday. No sense killing Supes off now. No one cares. But it MOVIE 1 does its job, this would be a hell of a way to end a film. MOVIE 3: WORLD WITHOUT A SUPERMAN Now Lex steps into the fore (being background charcter prior), to show how that world changes without a Superman there. I would hold Supes back for a triumphant return at the end of the film. MOVIE 4: QUEST FOR PEACE or what it should have been. Plagued by guilt after what happens during his "death" Superman tries to solve the world's ills, and in the process becomes its greatest threat.
-
Johnno, well said! just cast a MAN this time, someone who commands respect and looks like he can throw a punch a la arnold in commando or predator. freaking perfect. thank god routh is out!
-
He's a DC Universe villain.
-
The best bargain in silver age superman comedy.
-
Really? Arnie is the example you put up? The whole concept of the Alex Ross muscle-bound Superman is stupid. Sure Superman should look strong but he also has to look like an ordinary guy. Clark Kent can't just be a disguise this time. There has to be something real to him and to sell the disguise he can't have massive biceps. In any case Superman's strength is based around gravity and energy from the sun. He can look strong, but he still has to fit in. <p> The thing about Routh is that he looks more like Superman now than he did when he made the film 5 years ago. Not saying one way or another about casting him, I'm just saying he's a better fit now than during Superman Returns. <p> No bodybuilders, please. And not Cavill. And Not Hamm. Hamm should play Lex Luthor. And not Hammer. He has a look that works but his voice is too..I dunno...Hamptons frat boy...in nature. <p> Go find an unknown.
-
...someone his own size. No more Luthor or the sort... Darkseid, Mongul, the Cyborg Superman. Who is the most powerful Superman's enemy out there?
-
So you know...Lex Luthor is his size...maybe slightly shorter :P <p> Seriously though, ever notice that for a hero whose main power is flight, the only enemies he has who fly are either some version of him or from the same planet? Seriously, Bizarro, Zod, Eradicator, Superboy-Prime...they're all essentially versions of Superman. Some are evil kryptonian villains, others are clones but the so-called big three of Luthor Brainiac and Darkseid have one thing in common. They don't fly. <p> That's one reason for Zod. A daytime flying fight through Metropolis without rain, putting that awful Matrix Revolutions fight to shame. Seriously, the actual aerial battle stuff was terrible and there wasn't much of it.
-
Michael Fassbender for Zod <p> Jon Hamm for Luthor <p> Doug Jones for Brainiac (in a sequel) <p> Anton Yelchin for Jimmy <p> James Caan for Perry White <p> Lois is tricky...hmm Rose Byrne maybe...frankly I'm down with anyone as long as it's not Rachel McAdams. <p> Brendan Gleeson as Dan Turpin <p> Katee Sackoff as Maggie Sawyer <p> Some guy we've never heard of as Clark Kent/Superman

Brandon Routh was perfect for Superman. Don't be Marvel with the Hulk and recast instead of keeping a favorite actor who's perfect for the role. Look at 007. They kept M over TWO reboots and she'll probably stay through the next one if she wants to. Don't fix what isn't broken.

The idea about him being unable to fit in just because he's big is no more ridiculous that hiding your identity by simply putting on a pair of glasses! The trick is all in how the actor carries himself as Clark Kent and as Superman + how well the director composes his shots and lighting to make Superman's presense imposing adn strong! We are not really dealing with reality here. We're dealing with iconic images and symbolism and purity, which is what Superman is all about! It's all in the framing and composition! Superman should feel strong simply from looking at him! He means business! Mere Mortals should cower before him!

If Avengers movie is a huge hit, then JLA would probably...
by Thanos0145
be greenlit by Warner Bros. Last weekend at NYComicCon, Geoff Johns said that there was no need to "smash together" the DC characters in a team movie. He would rather have each character build on their own in solo movies.<p>I sat there thinking that Geoff wasn't believing that BS coming out of his mouth. The Warner Bros. corporate suits are waiting to see how Marvel Studios does with their movie plans before copying it.
-
if the director of 300 is going to make Superman big enough? Routh or not, he's going to be HUUGE!
-
Kal-El's parents, aware of the hazards of space travel and the unpredictability of the universe, wrap their child in three protective blankets, each made of strong, highly durable yet light material. It is hoped that this material will serve as a protective shield for the baby on his journey and will help him survive entry into Earth's atmosphere. <p> These materials are red, yellow and blue and when Clark decides to put on a costume, knowing that he could end up in some volatile situations, he uses the materials to fashion a suit, maybe based on records of fashions from Krypton or something. Superman is highly durable, near invincible but his clothes aren't,. This suit can follow him into the blazing heat of a volcano and come out fairly unscathed, It won't tear and should the need arise, the cape can be used to protect others around him. <p> Simple, effective. Moving on.
-
C'mon Snyder, be the guy who finally has the balls to show Superman in some of his more far-flung, wildly imaginative settings, and against his very best villain: Darkseid! It's JACK KIRBY, man. Be the first filmmaker to truly bring Kirby's concepts to the screen (He-Man doesn't count).<p> This is a prime opportunity, Zack. Imagine! The greatest superhero of all time interacting with the creations of the greatest cartoonist of all time. It's something that is screaming out for the big screen treatment.
-
Bad actor/waiters/bartenders are plentiful in Hollywood. If one unemployed actor-bartender can deliver Routh's performance, finding another fired soap star to give a similarly lifeless performance should be natural. <p> Superman's suit needs a neutral color between the strong red and blue. Yellow is an ugly eye soar. At best it should be a metallic gold. Maybe brass. No crayola yellow.
-
The fashion horrors of the '70s need not be revisited.
-
Don't encourage Harry's isolation and ignorance by implying otherwise. Well documented and widely reported events, such as Routh's firing, don't disappear just because AICN is late in reporting it.
-
"For now it's just a rumor."? Wow, that's such a hard code to fucking break!</p><p>Here, let me help....FOR NOW that's just a rumor.</p><p>He's making it as clear as he possibly fucking can that he is not permitted to confirm that news because that is studio jurisdiction. If you can't read that response and KNOW for goddamn sure sure that Zod is the villain, get fitted for a hockey helmet because your brain is in serious fucking danger!
-
I like the cut of your jib, fried. <p> Yeah, there's nothing wrong with tweaking the classic suit to make it more modern without changing the design too much. <p> I agree about the yellow. Keep the same design for the suit and cape, but torpedo the over the pants underwear and make the suit more of a royal court military officer's uniform, a cross between a Roman centurion's outfit and something Prince Charles would wear at a state ceremony. But give Superman a big, damn, family crest 'S'.
-
The Christopher Reeve movies are so overrated. The animated Superman movies have always been better. A live action Superman needs someone to beat up.
-
Screw it. Also, throw in a 400-story Brainiac robot made out of junkyard-sized piles of cellphones\laptops\and other e-waste, powered by Kryptonite ala the Superman Returns video game. Then have Superman obliterate it less than 30 min into the movie. I very much want Brandon Routh as Superman, but about 40lbs heavier with muscle. Ditch the darker reds too. I want to see the Son of Superman story followed thru. A 14-15 yr old Superboy donning the jeans and black T-shirt with red S would be cool, and it would bring the tween girls' & chaperone's money to the box office. However, it's just a plot device to summon the wrath of Superman. If Superman loses his son, that would justify a very dark Superman story without changing his origin for a ridiculous, capeless, dark Superman with blades and a gay robot sidekick. </p> I would prefer to see a gay robot sidekick in a non-Superman movie. </p> Oh, and please bring back Kevin Spacey as Luthor for half an hour. PLEASE do not retell Superman 2 like how Singer retold Superman 1's plot in Superman Returns. I want an original story with Mongul and Darkseid...each a formidable foe, very much NOT a Kryptonian super faux...GET IT? HAR-DEE-HAR-HAR! </p> No Justin Bieber as Superboy!...unless you kill him for real on camera (snuff) when the Superboy character inevitably dies. That would outdo Lucas killing Jar-Jar Saw-style. </p> I declare these plot ideas public domain.

Why do such good set up lines just fall into my arms like that? Huh? huh? I ask you. The material writes itself. MY KARMA IS AWESOME!

with a little bit of Max Fleischer flair in it. a new villain, Brainiac from Krypton (i know he's not from krypton just write it in somewhere) but like everybody here said a villain that can keep up with him no more Lex no more

Given Snyders track record with couple of his latest films...
by tomimt
I doubt he has that much of a say towards the content. He'll be pretty much a hired hand to do the directing.
-
and a fuck load of perverted mental patients that escaped from Arkham Asylum????? I'm semi-serious about the climate crisis idea though. It could be a cool thing to see. Earth falling apart and Superman, well you know, saves us from our own doom.
-
I don't know about you, but I knew Routh was gone the minute I saw the movie back in 2006. I knew there was no way Warners was going to continue with that attempted "franchise."
-
I loved SR, but even if you hate the storyline and it's homages, he still did a great job. I can't imagine anyone better. You just have to look at what Moore did with For Your Eyes Only, compared to his initial Bonds to know it's possible. Still, there are big questions. How much would the film link to SR? Is Luthor involved? Would Bosworth return (yes to that, for me too).
-
*cough* bizzaro too *cough*

Enough to watch another fucking reboot or whatever...however I won't watch Smallville for whatever abortion they have on that so unless he's like the Zod in the older comics or Stamp Zod, count me out.
-
That was the one piece of news I was upset about. Let's face it, Zod was never that great in the comics, and his Smallville apearances were just sad, pale imitations of Superman II. After Michael Rosenbaum Zod, Callum Blue Zod, Russian Zod, Jim Lee Zod, Return to Krypton Zod and Last Son Zod, that's six versions of Zod from just the past six years, it's safe to say they've gone to the Zod well a few times too many. Terrance Stamp was great, that movie was great, but it's time to move on. We'll always have our DVDs.
-
Zod would be okay, but I want Darkseid or Braniac.
-
Can they at least announce that either they are hiring Howard Shore for a new theme or re-using John Williams theme. That's all I want to know. Common Zack please answer! I can't go on not knowing! just whatever you do don't use Brian Tyler. For the love of god keep him away!

one thing that's always puzzled me re: Brainiac...
by Righteous Brother
perhaps one of my american friends can answer. Is the character name of Brainiac taken from the popular insult to someone who's intelligent. Or did the insult come about after the character Brainiac was created? I always think that the name Brainiac is one of those things that would stop him making it to the big screen.
-
For the love of God, please keep Brandon Routh, whatever your opinion of Lives, he was superb and without the John Williams score its not Superman, full stop. Whistle me one blockbuster score which is as memorable as Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders, CE3K in the last twenty years, quite, Willimas scores are iconic and Superman is insperable from that music now. Change whatever else, but fuck with these things at your peril.

Never liked you.

I actually think the Stargate theme music belongs on the list. Inception's theme also is memorable. Law & Order's theme is memorable, but annoying.
-
This is not a criticism. I am on the Hamm train. However, fan listings pair him up with much younger Lois actresses. Lois is the one who showed Clark the ropes at the Daily Planet. The actress must be the same age or slightly older than Jon Hamm. Younger doesn't work. It changes the whole dynamic of their relationship.
-
In no particular order:<p> Ashley Judd<p> Demi Moore<p> Tea Leoni<p> Terri Hatcher<p> Charlize Theron<p> Marisa Tomei<p> Kristin Davis<p>

I'd be happy to see Routh back. The suit needs redesigning thou
by Mr Nicholas
-
Not Doomsday. Not Darkseid. Not Bizarro. LOBO. That's if you want a straight punch-up. Wanna make it more interesting? Have Lobo team with Superman to stop The Parasite. Casting, keep it all in place except Kate Bosworth, find someone a couple of years older with a personality. Keep Routh, but let him act and not channel Chris Reeve. Keep everyone else in place. The casting on Returns was nearly perfect; now all the Warner bigshots need to get is get the fuck outta the way and let these people work. If Jon Hamm is cast as Clark, then yes, someone a year or so older needs to be Lois, and to my mind Dana Delany is the best choice. She can still play someone in her mid-thirties, and was the best Lois the animated series ever had. I know some would prefer Teri Hatcher, but I don't see it. And for God's sake, make this Lois an ass-kicker! She's a military brat, not some weepy shrinking violet!
-
except for Kevin Spacey who had potential. But Singer screwed that up too by making Luthor silly.
-
Audiences will avoid it. Just like they've avoided everything else Routh has been in since. Regular people just don't seem to like him much.
-
Sandra Bullock could do it. She would be able to pull in an audience. She would also cost more than the rest of the cast combined.<p> Maybe Kate Beckinsale?
-
Bizarro would be too confusing to a normal audience. Will he talk backward? Will the audience pity him more than fear him? Will that make Superman look like a bully? He would be a tough villain to pull off.
-
Yes, I said it! Marvel fanboys use stupid math. <p> Iron Man + Thor + Cap + Hulk = how much Avengers will make<p> WRONG<p> The same people will go to each movie. Some of the people stopped after Iron Man I. <p> Avengers will make LESS than Iron Man I.
-
After eating the smelly poop of Returns, many people won't go to next Superman movie, no matter how good it is. The Superman franchise has to rebuild credibility with the public, starting at the bottom.
-
seems to me.. Jon Hamm, love the Mad Men show, but... can't see him as Superman. he's just not.. right.. but then again, the things they do with makeup :) Seriously.. the Byrne reboot, was good.. in the way that Luthor wasn't the upfront villain. And Superman is from Krypton.. Now, I'm sure they won't be using Smallville as the platform to launch the reboot. So.. to keep it simple, have Clark Kent grow up in Smallville, start the shoot with him travelling over the world.. figuring things out.. Next thing you know.. some strange crimes are being committed, he can't help but investigate, gets to tangle with Metallo.. and loses.. (Kryptonite powers Metallo), but Clark doesn't know about Kryptonite and Metallo doesn't yet realize its his power source that got the best out of Clark. Clark regroups.. What made him weak? what can he do to further help? as far as I'm concern, this movie should help him become Superman.. and become a reporter.. as a means to keep around.... Who made Metallo? Say its Brainiac.. with what resources? says from Luthor the business man.. Say LuthorCorp resources are being hijacked.. Not that Luthor is a saint.. but he's being used as a duped at first, until he figures it out... the second movie is Luthor trying to figure out Superman... Anyways... So many possibilities :)

ZACK, BRING ON THE SPACE SQUID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by JonChambers
-
It is one thing for the normal people of earth to be seen as shocked and scared that some monster has just knocked off your mightiest hero. It is a whole other level of drama to see the galaxies mightiest heroes shocked, scared and pissed off at the sight of Superman being killed. Of course seeing something as awesome as that is purported to never be seen on film for the foreseeable future due to the DC movie folks taking a liking to keep their heroes completely set apart from one another. Damn shame.
-
"I have always disliked the notion of other Kryptonians..." This is... so off the mark. Superman is special because he contradicts the saying "power corrupts - absolute power corrupts absolutely". He's not special because "he's the only kryptonian". He's special because he uses the power to serve mankind - not conquer it. It's a metaphore
-
Yes I'm an idiot. "Superman a super man", not at. I will now go whip myself as punishment.
-
Ok beg is strong-- but seriously. Superman is very difficult to cast. And even if you do cast someone else. Why move away from someone that did such a great job? Routh was a great great Superman! It's like finding a diamond in the ruff and then going to look for another. Listen, if it aint broke--right? He embodies Supes! Bring him back!! Routh was not the problem with Superman the script was just too predictable with the same villain Luthor (yawn). Bring in a DC supes villain we've never seen before. Someone that makes Superman have to push his powers to the max! Take the breaks off this guy!! No to Gen Zodd please. You can make a total break from the old Supermans and still have Routh in the role. It would be pretty cool indeed. A real treat for all the fans as well. It's hard enough making Superman work, so keep the things that do. -- No Ben Afflack or any other hollywood types to play Superman please. sheesh.
-
I cannot believe the number of, "Bring Routh back!" or "Keep Bosworth", etc. comments I am seeing on here. Routh is a HORRIBLE actor, and I really hate even using the word "actor" when mentioning his name. Superman Returns was abysmal. People want to blame the script or Singer for Routh's wooden performance, but that is irrelevant once you see all of Routh's other lifeless performances. He is dull and uncharismatic in everything I have had the "pleasure" to see him in. Just face the facts, Routh is not worthy of being recast as Superman, and there is no way a new director for a reboot will even consider bringing him back. He would be a reminder of the crap that was Superman Returns and I'm sure Snyder wants his own stamp on the reboot by casting his own Superman. Next time I'm in Hollywood, if Routh waits on my table, I will be sure to get some autographs for his fans on here.
-
Apparently some people do comment before reading a talkback thread. That's OK. Every post puts this thread farther ahead of the Batman thread!<p> #1!!
-
Superman Returns was not a shit film as some would say. It wasn't "Great"though. It was a good film. It got lots of good reviews. It didnt do good in theaters or make enough money cause it didnt offer people incentive enough to spend 12-24 dollars to see it. I almost didn't go to the theaters to see it myself and I was looking forward to seeing a new Superman movie for years. It had the sense of a "been there done that" kind of thing. I already knew what to expect. And I was right. It was very similar to the old Superman movies. Not good. People go to movies not just for an escape or fantastic experience but also has to investment of their time in something different and unique. Something that they feel leaves a mark on them. Not say "I'll wait for the DVD".. So the trailer to the next Superman movie better be a total fucking shock. Knock people off their seats! Superman has to seriously kick ass. No simple villains like Luthor and some idiot henchmen (~yawn~). People don't want to see Superman fighting a gang of thugs. People want to see Superman flying over metropolis fighting some grand science fiction creatures and villains. Something that pushes the limits of Superman! Fantastically Epic Battle scenes where people say "Damn I gotta experience this in theaters!!"
-
It's why the reboot will struggle to make money. Batman fans, Spider-Man fans, even Wolverine fans will all still be able to make fun of Superman's puny box office. Sad days my friends.
-
I read the talk backs and there is a controversy but its not as one sided as you both are making it sound.. Philvis,-- first of all was there any scenes with Routh where Superman needed to show emotion? Superman tends to be wooden in these films and he's written that way. That's not Rouths fault. That's the issue I have with Superman and why he tends not to be relatable. It was not an Oscar worthy script. It didn't demand the full scale of his acting chops. No body complained about Christopher Reeve right? It was the same kind of character.
-
You know you want to see that!!!
-
Christopher Reeve was a trained Juillard actor! Nobody complained about his acting, because he did a brilliant job! He brilliantly transitioned between comedic Clark and heroic Superman. Granted, that is a dated characterization now, but nobody disputes that Reeve pulled it off beautifully. People sometimes complain about his slim looks, but I have never heard complaints about his acting.<p> In contrast, Brandon Routh had failed out of acting all together by the time he was hired. Singer, in his hubris thought he could limit Routh's lines and piece together a non-terrible performance in the editing room. He was wrong!
-
! he deserves another chance. Please dont make this the fucking hulk films where we have had so mnay actors play the part now, its no longer special. Most people want to see the same actor playing a part, if you keep changing it you risk making it not so special anymore imho....
-
damn good Superman, a real succesor to Mr Reeves....WB, if you ever listen to us internet dorks, keep Routh as Superman.
-
If there was another year for the project, BRAINIAC would offer so much potential, with TRANSFORMERS-worthy EFFECTS. DARKSEID is more organic, at least in terms of visualizing CGI (computer generated imagery). So I'm predicting that DARKSEID will be involved, and quite possibly DOOMSDAY. <P>And I wouldn't be surprised if this picture is ACTION PACKED!
-
If WB ever listed to the internet, they would have cast Tom Welling in Returns. He kills every damn poll! LOL. You know it's true.
-
myself (at least as a villain being controlled by someone like Brainiac). Could make for some awsome action set pieces...
-
It was reported all over. Not sure why this topic is even coming up really.
-
to Supes, and can actually hurt him and even kill him without needing kryptonite
-
...would push this past 2012. But WOW, how incredible BRAINIAC could be in a SUPERMAN motion picture.
-
All the "super, duper physical training" in the world is not going to make Routh look less of an emo-teenager or a Christopher Reeve impressionist. Nolan's going to fuck up Supes like he fucked up Bats and I predict Snyder and him will have a falling out over both the direction and look of the flick. Expect Burton/Cage Superman out of these hacks.
-
..before Snyder came on board. But even useless Routh posts that try to deny reality, put us farther ahead of the Batman thread. <p> #1!
-
Why should we waste time on them? Even scenes at the Daily Planet should be limited. Superman should be out an about, saving people and beating down supervillians. Every cast list always assumes there must be a Jimmy. Why? Jimmy is lame. Dump him.
-
is the cast of the Jersey Shore.
-
I would lover to see Butler as a more mature Superman. Skip the origin story and go straight to the action. Plus we know that he works well with Snyder.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing the Joe Manganiello guy from True Blood or even Armie Hammer after seeing his performance in The Social Network. I seriously doubt Snyder would go for Welling as he probably would want his own hand picked Superman and not worry about continuity issues. Besides Routh being a lifeless actor, I don't think they would consider him either for continuity problems. It's hard to reboot with the lead actor from the epic failure of a film that was the reason a reboot was necessary to begin with.
-
The Dark Knight was so good because it showed the dark side of a good person. Superman is the light to Batmans dark. The new movie should focus on that light. Also, Superman has always been a Christ figure. But I have never seen a story based on the temptations Jesus faced before starting his ministry. A movie that focused on Superman facing the temptations to simply take over the world and ultimately choosing to do what is right would be a good story. General Zod would make a good devil character/tempter.
-
now. He is way overused. Zod is ok, but since he has the exact same powers as Supes, and the same inability to get hurt easily...whats the point? As I said before Doomsday can both hurt and kill Supes, he looks very different to Supes, and for all those that say the death of Supermna storyline cant be adapted to film should seek out and read Kevin Smith's superman script. Aside from all the idiotic shit in there due to Jon Peter's stupidity, it actually works quite well as an adaptation of said story...
-
Superman villain that has yet to be done on film....And he was incorporated quite well into the death of Superman storyline in Smith's script....
-
he did a fine job. Brainiac would be fun. Bizarro world a la All Star Supes would be interesting too.
-
and Routh will end up becoming the George Lazenby of the Superman series lol. Imho Lazenby could have been a good Bond if he had done another and been able to more cement himself in the role. I think the same thing of Routh...
-
The problem with Armie, is that I have no idea of the true quality of his acting. David Fincher does approximately 100 takes of every scene. You give any actor that much footage and eventually you will be able to piece together a decent performance in the editing room. Many experienced actors hate this about Fincher. It drove Jake Gyllenhaal mad. But it works. Actors never look better than when working with Fincher. But no other director will spend that much time and money re-shooting the same scene over and over. <p> Before this film, Hammer gave mediocre to poor performances. Now, he has either made a great leap forward as an actor (possible), or Fincher pieced together his performance from a ton of footage, creating the illusion of this great leap forward. Snyder will not be re-shooting a scene 100 times to improve Hammer's acting. Without that crutch, how good is Hammer's acting really?
-
as being Reeves copyist. I found Routh's Clark to be very similar to Reeves, but I found his Superman quite different. There was a warmth and deceny to him, but there was also something unhuman about him too. I could believe he was a god, alone in all the world. Reeves was always warm, decent, super nice and well mannered. Routh's Superman had a hint of anger and fury to him just kept under control imho. I totally bought how pissed off he looked at finding the crystals had been stolen, or when hes flying towards the island to go under it, like someone was in deep shit.
-
Surprised by the lack of discussion about this series. It's the greatest Superman story ever told, and would easily translate to screen.
-
But if not, whatevs. This new movie will be to Superman Returns as The Incredible Hulk is to Ang Lee's film. As in, NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD!
-
so I could not give a fuck how this new movie turns out. <P>Even though I think Watchmen and The Dark Knight are two of the best films ever made, Nolan and Snyder could never have one tenth of the amount of heart that Singer injected into Returns.
-

as Superman! Most of the debates consist of the same old argument that Routh was playing Chris Reeves as Superman!<p>Personally I don't see it. The guy pretty much sounds like that in real life and he gave a good performance.<p>Plus his Supes did look convincing saving lives and the flying seqences was nice!<p>Can't really say the movie was all that bad, just had slow parts but what movie doesn't!<p>The Dark Knight wasn't flawless and had lag at times too!
-
I am a huge Superman fan, and feel this character really deserves a real good story and movie to get his teeth into. I think its definately time to say goodbye to Lex. I feel you really need to up the physical anti with superheros if they have any hope to compete with all other movies out there . Darkseid, Braniac and doomsday YES YES YES. anyone would make an awsome transition on screen. AS for Snyder and Routh. I think Snyder is a real great choice. He adapts comic books really well and visually he is outstanding. And as for Routh, I feel he was totally the best thing about Superman returns and really embodied the role beautifully. At no time was i ever thinking of Christopher Reeve. I really hope hes given a chance to reprise the role and do something special with it.

by Darth Busey
-
Despite Fincher's penchant for lots of takes Armie Hammer only had ONE audition to impress Fincher, ONE audition to impress George Millier (for all the good it did him) and will only have ONE audition to impress Snyder. He aced two for two so far and one of them was for Batman. That's not illusion. That's talent.
-
I would like to see a LOTR type opening similar to what they did on the first episode of Superman TAS showing Brainiac being responsible for the destruction of Krypton, followed by an immediate jump to Superman already in action. I for one hate the crystal planet Donner Krypton, and think it would immediately destinguish itself from that version by showing a Krypton that is more of a future human planet on the verge of its inevitable destruction than a giant ice pop with a society of old dudes in florescent bathrobes.
-
Routh was a great superman and I hope he is the Man of Steel in the new movie. I prefer a Darkseid Movie over Doomsday...but how about a movie based on issue #300 where Superman comes back in the year 1976 and the Soviets and US fight to have property rights of him? Skyboy was his name!
-
Don't believe me? Post another actor and I'll tell you why Armie is better.
-
No actor could save either of those movies. The talent was there, the material was NOT.
-
Tell itr to The Snyder: <p> http://tinyurl.com/yp2xhf

Gotta say, with more bulk and black hair he would make a good Supes. I still think in terms of the overall look Tom Welling nails it. Alas for his connection to Smallville cause the guy is tall enough and built like a Buick. With the right director and special effects in place he would be my choice, but I can see Armie doing it. Another choice might be Captain Awesome himself, Ryan McPartlin. He missed out on Cap, but with a good dye job, Supes would fit him quite well physically.
-
That's not heart Singer injected into Superman Returns. It was something, more, creamy...

is fresh and makes perfect sense. His costume is digital like green lanterns but it can be real in some scenes. It's adaptable to any situation. You can even go with it being made of the same nanofiber in his blanket but his robot(the one that hangs around the fortress of solitude and retrieves him when he gets beaten down by doomsday)has modified it to be able to change into different forms. Imagine what Morgan Freeman would do with this Kryptonian tech if he got hold of just a scrap of supe's cape. He could perhaps fashion a suit for batman that when combined with synthesized kryptonite.. Well it's no secret that these two need to fight toe-to-toe at some point and then become the world's finest
-
As others have pointed out, Darkseid is not really a Superman villain. Mongul/Brainiac would be cool though. Darkseid would maybe be better for a JLA movie in five or ten years.
-
It seems to me getting someone who can really pull off both roles - Superman and Clark Kent - is tricky. Why fuck around when you have a guy who did a terrific job already?
-
And D.Vader. Where did the pedalbackers go? Blazes,! Anyone know-I'm hungry and miss them hotly.
-
He was introduced in 1970 in one of the Superman family of comic books titled "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen". Issue #134.
-
think about it
-
Get pixie, indie fashionista Claire Danes on the horn. She's perfect for this (and coming off 'Coming up Daisy and 'Grandin'-in need of a surefire hit) but must be in full retard regalia and use stunted speech. Imagine that powerslammin trio. A horse, a skeleton and Hardy cock. Say the retarded Word. I'm there, but sadly only to watch.
-
..IT'S LOIS Lane you fuckwits. If Superman was banging "Louis Lane" Singer would have a LOT more to answer for...
-
A group of meta-humans calling themselves the Elite suddenly appear on the world scene and Superman doesn't like it. They are able to stop some heavy-duty terrorists, but not without killing them, and not without huge, and unnecessary, loss of civilian life. However, many people think that the Elite are the way forwards, the only way to deal with increasingly more dangerous evil-doers. To amny, Superman has become 'old school'. Superman, resolutely refuses to kill. All hell breaks loose as Superman ultimately faces off with The Elite, with The Man Of Steel unexpectedly defeating them with his brains.
-
Sounds good an aw! Specially the brain thing. Though, I wouldn't state the Man of Steels win is "unexpected." Now Clare Danes? Total fast curveball.
-
This is a new Superman film. Period.
-
The first Superman can't be outdone and there really isn't anything left to say, especially with Lex Luthor.
-
Use Morrison's BRILLIANT All Star Superman as a template and hope Nolan is able to use his brains to keep Snyder's adolescent ID in check.
-
just save him for the sequel or something if they must use him. The 1st movie should be 100% fresh.
-
second only to Olivia Wilde. But the rest of Olivia distracts me from that.
-
It doesn't have to be "The Elite" or an adaptation of that particular comic, but a story with that same type of spirit could work for the movie. Nolan and Snyder could get very violent and dark with the bad guys, and the tone of the movie, but they'll have to keep Superman as a symbol of hope and optimism to balance things out. The theme of the movie, like the comic, should be to show that Superman's way is the correct way as opposed of that of the antiheroes that people like so much these days. Also, a movie inspired by "What's So Funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way" would have major action scenes and Superman fighting several (albeit unknown) powerhouses. After that, you can introduce any big name villain you want in the sequels.

ROUTH SUCKS BALLS!!!! TOM WELLING IS THIS GENERATIONS SUPERMAN,
by ThaJackaL
ROUTH WAS THE WORST ACTOR EVER TO PLAY THE ROLE, AND IF HE IS CAST I WILL NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. FUCK HIM, AND FUCK THIS MOVIE IF HE'S CAST... THIS GENERATIONS SUPERMAN IS TOM WELLING, AND HE ALONE SHOULD BE IN THE MOVIE AS SUPERMAN. NOT NANCY BOY BRANDON ROUTH WHO SUCKED HIS WAY TO THE ROLE BY SLEEPING WITH SINGERMAN.
-
The movie should in no way be connected to the soap opera that is Smallville.
-
you know you want it so
-
IT'S HIS BIRTHRIGHT!!!!
-
...and the villains are Terra Man(Sam Rockwell) and Mirror Master(Patrick Stewart). This is an adaptation of the Flash/Superman race. Nolan decided that realism was overrated, and is going the total fantasy route. Batman will feature the Cavalier, and his freak mob will include Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Punch and Judy and Alley Babble. The movies are gonna suck, but Nolan figures he'll be set for life from all of the toys these movies will sell.
-
How are you going to MAKE Welling do it? Because he won't otherwise. Even if Nolan and Snyder asked which they won't either.
-
... GLOBAL WARMING! Zod fell into the abyss at the Fortress, became frozen in a state of suspended animation, Supes destroyed the Fortress, many years later the arctic is melting away due to global warming, a sliver of sunlight breaks through to where Zod is frozen, he is revived, and re-energized with the yellow sun energy. Boom. Zod is back. Pay me.
-
find a better replacement.partly because of SR being a failure, and partly because of the ego of the creators of the reboot, who wont want to have any connection with what the previous director did.
-
FTW!!!! IF THERE IS NO WELLING IN THE MOVIE THEN I'M NOT SPENDING A PENNY ON IT. FUCK ROUTH, AND FUCK ZOD I WANT TOM WELLING AS SUPERMAN, AND DARKSEID IN AN EPIC FUCKING BATTLE!
-
If by some reverse-miracle Welling gets cast I won't see it and neither will half the audience needed to allow MOS to break even let alone make a profit. <p> Welling can't carry a movie.
-
DOES ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANT THAT TO BE THE NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE?
-
LOL. Get real. No one is boycotting Tom Welling in the role, just because one fanboy can't handle it. LOL. Even as hyperbole that's a stupid statement. Especially considering that the majority of normal people have voted Welling their top Superman pick in every single poll for years. Normal people are not fanboys. My top pick is still Hamm, but if Welling gets it, the film will be just as financially successful as with Hamm. I know that. Everyone truthful knows that. <p> The only thing holding back the box office is the smelly poop of Superman Returns and the current recession.
-
It's why they get made fun of so often. <p> In a way, it is also why Scott Pilgrim failed. Normal people just can't take fanboy seriously.
-
"Whoever smelt it dealt it"(said in a gay voice, preferably PeeWeeHermans)!
-
Everybody on AICN is a fanboy to some extent.<p> However, I'm a mole fanboy in disguise, surrounded by the normal people. I have infiltrated them to study their language and ways. It is a big and scary world of crockpot recipes and work socials.
-
How's about we get John Malkovich as Lex Luthor who hybrids with CG Brainiac and unleashes Jack Earle Haley's Bizarro to disrupt (or destroy) James Caveziel's Superman both in his personal (Clark Kent) and Superhero life by visiting Ma Kent, kidnapping Lois and reeking havoc on Metropolis while Lex/Brainiac are devising their scheme to take over the world?
-
Lizzy would be fab. However, she is not really a famous name. I think WB wants to go bigger with the supporting cast names. That sounds like a waste of money to me. I'd rather that big star salary get spent on special effects. However, WB seems convinced a big star supporting cast will the major draw.
-
In the spirit of the hit TV series Shit My Dad Says, a motion picture brings the popular website superdickery.com to life! Just like the site, the film is a series of comic vignettes that show Superman in hilariously awkward everyday encounters where super powers are always the answer, no matter how awkward the results!
-
Well, partially a great idea. superdickery is incredibly popular with the younger set. Superman is seen a stodgy and bland by way too many people. Recent movies have tried to turn him into a passive Jesus. Maybe Superman needs to be more of a dick to regain the love of the audience. Donner's Superman certainly had real dickish moments. Toying with criminals, smirking at everybody, ogling Lois's underwear. Donner's Superman could be a real dick sometimes. Timm's cartoon Superman was a hotheaded dick. Kids loved that cartoon. Smallville's Clark could be a teenage angsting dick sometimes. Teens loved that. But the movies are afraid to make Superman slightly dickish now. He is a holy saint, who must be treated with reverence. That is a bit boring to some people. Superman used to play slightly dickish pranks on people as Clark. It was amusing. Golden age Superman was a brawler and pushy dick. No more. Now he is completely virtuous in every way. Kind of dull.
-
Just don't kill Superman again. Never saw the whole reboot movie, but I did notice that Brandon Routh had rubber muscles, mostly. I know actors don't like to change weight (it limits follow-on parts) but real muscles/weight can help somebody "own" the part of Superman.
-
is such a good point. He really was written that way in the beginning. He came off as somewhat arrogant and he'd never hesitate to put a beating on any asshole that crossed him. That's what we need to see in this new movie. Superman sees a bankrobber? Throw him through a fucking wall, while laughing. Superman has to confront a powered villain? At the peak of the battle have Superman step on the guy's face and grind his head into the ground. No more Saint Superman. Superman is the "anti-bully". He should strike back with a nasty glint in his eye and methods to match.
-
The Death of Superman storyline was terrible. Superman dies, because he is punched a lot. What drama and pathos. Judging by the description of the plot so far, I feel like Brainiac makes the most sense. They should definitely steal his origins from The Animated Series. Of course, most superhero films would be better if they stole more from the Dini/Timm animated series.
-
The Greatest Hero Ever is supposed to be dynamic and inspiring, not a listless void. He's barely passable as young Superman by way of Dawson Creek, but he lacks the dramatic weight, charm, presence, and talent to be Superman in cinemas.
-
That's the superman I don't want to see.
-
This a new start for Superman. Routh is out. Even if he was great in SR (he was average) it would be confusing. Is this a sequel? Why is that same guy in it?<br><br> Superman/Clark needs to be recast. Some young actor to make the character his own like Reeves did. But not a Reeves imitation.<br><br> And since we're starting over we need an origin. An origin as good as Batman Begins.<br><br> I think if they followed the same formula as the new Batman films. First movie was an origin with some minor villains. And it ended with a tease for the next villain - Joker.<br><br> Lex Luthor is to Superman what the Joker is to Batman. Luthor deserves a proper introduction and an entire movie with him as the sole villain. Introduce him in the first movie and make him the main villain in the second.<br><br> Kevin Spacey was a horrible Luthor. On the other hand, Gene Hackman's take was great. He had a real, smoldering menace behind him - it wasn't strictly played for laughs (they had Otis and Miss Tessmacher for that). Hackman's Luthor was excellent. Like he said - mind over muscle. But I didn't really like the Otis and Miss Tessmacher characters having so much screen time and lightening the mood so much.
-
Smallville has its own mythology and should not be associated in any way, shape or form with the new Superman films. If they decide after this season to do a new series, say "Metropolis: The Even Newer Adventures of Lois and Clark" then go ahead. I'll watch it. But just don't go trying to launch that tv show into the new movies. They should exist in totally different universes.
-
Let the DC characters exist in their own universes. Marvel can go down the team-up road.
-
and was totally entertained despite its flaws. It made me just want to second the idea of somehow getting Bruce Timm and/or Paul Dini involved with this new movie. I know Goyer's written a script and he and Nolan generated the initial ideas, but if anyone knows Superman, it's Timm. Seek him out!

It should be a planned Darkseid trilogy. Lets see Superman truly
by Sulik2
And Michael Ironside HAS to voice Darkseid. That voice is perfect.
-
so, fuck Zod. this is good news. I'm not a comics nerd, I got nothin' I feel left out :( But yeah, captain obvious says no more Lex Luthor or Zod kthx
-
MAKE IT SO!!!!!!!!!!

why is everyone still talking about Routh?
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
can you ignorant nerds please stay informed on the talkback subjects? because they already said NO ROUTH. SO STFU ABOUT ROUTH ALREADY. But I like the Louis Lane idea. Make her a dude and make Superman gay with a pink cape. Then have Jim Carry as Supes.
-
Tom empty space Welling and Armie with a black dye job Hammer are no freaking different then Routh. I've said it over and over unless Snyder and Warners is going to cast outside the box with the likes of Leo , Matt Damon, the Rock and few other good actors I see no reason for them trotting in the same damn guys that already read for the part. Cavill, Paledecki, Hammer, Welling and the others mean zip. WB needs to get started shooting and not waste time casting a new damn actor. Routh already has the set up and can get going. Welling does to I guess but god does he not look like Superman and the man has no presence as an actor what so ever. He's just not a good actor. I can't believe what I'm reading here.Welling and Durance should not be allowed anywhere near a feature film. WB FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STICK WITH ROUTH!
-
MapMan, we all know who Superman is. We know where he comes from. We've seen his origin story. No. More. It's the laziest creative direction in the world.
-
Anne Hatheway, come on you know it.
-
Zombie Richard Pyror vs Supes.
-
Only to be frozen and thawed out for Justice League.<br><br>Oh wait... <br><br> Ok. In all seriousness, we don't need an "origin" story but it still can be a "new beginning." I think Lex should be President of the US, sort of a neo-con like president who is making wars across the world to spread the American Way and to make money for himself. The first movie should be put in that universe, with Lex disturbed about Superman since he would ruin all his plans to control the world, but he is going to put a public image on Superman as if he were Superman's newest best friend. Will keep putting ads with Superman in them on the tv saying "Only in a Lex Presidency do we see the future." Something like that. This should be Lex's role. As for the foe.... well, let someone else decide that.
-
Lex could be the one who first suggests Superman is fighting for "truth, justice, and the American way." But his meaning is the twisted neo-con meaning. Superman will take it up, but do so... for the real American way. And that will be the ending, when the schism happens, and Lex goes... got to do something about this guy... he is ruining everything.. but before then make it that Lex wants to use Superman for PR.
-
"...vacuous mannequins masquerading as human beings." <p>-Harry on the cast of The Fog including Welling. <p>"Keep an eye on Hammer’s career. The dude was fantastic in the movie. He has the charm, physique and square jaw… you’ll see this man as a superhero mark my words." <p>-Quint on Armie Hammer in the social network. <p>It's not just me. It's also the guys who RUN THIS SITE.
-
None of the names you threw up could touch Hammer for a year one Superman.<p>Not. One.
-
Normal people don't care who is cast as Superman but Wellingites do which is why they rape every Superman casting poll. I've heard one Wellingite made over 20 accounts on one site so he or she could vote for Welling over and over again. The polls don't mean shit, talent does. Hammer has talent, Welling does not.
-
Since Nolan is going to be "Godfathering" this project, maybe we can see multiple villains, all upper tier and then muscle, like Brainiac/Doomsday and/or Darkseid/Bizarro, or any such combo.
-
Just someone like Zod- a worthy adversary.
-
It creates some interesting emotional turmoil for the Man of Steel.<p> Think of it this way: Clark Kent feels all alone and isolated, thinking he's the very last existing Kryptonian. The only connection he has with his people is the holotapes that Jor-El left in his space capsule. He doesn't resent his human adopted parents or anything like that, but he's still wistful.<p> Superman: Birthright got this sort of stuff just right when it showed how Clark's curiosity for his heritage really hurt Jonathan Kent's feelings. The scene where Clark carries Jonathan up in the air for the first time is one of my favourite bits from any Superman story.<p> So, against this backdrop, Clark discovers that he might NOT be the only survivor. How do you think this would make him feel? He's probably overjoyed. He'd seek these other survivors out and try to make a connection. He's ecstatic that he isn't "alone in the Universe".<p> Now, imagine how he'd feel once he discovers that the only other survivors are Krypton's three most notorious criminals...<p> It's SUCH an emotion hook. I love the potential.
-
It's sort of like the relationship between Doctor Who and The Master.<p> The Universe would be much better off if The Doctor would simply get rid of The Master, but he cannot bring himself to end The Master's life because then The Doctor truly would be the last Time Lord.<p> That's why The Master's final victory over The Doctor was to take his own life. That hurt The Doctor more than anything else The Master could have done.<p> Of course, it's not a perfect analogy because General Zod is motivated by a desire for power, not a desire to hurt Kal-El.
-
a) Somehow I doubt every Talkbacker has fucked their babysitter. How many of us have kids, and how many of us are suave enough to actually coax a babysitter to have sex with us?<p> b) I can think of a few other differences: Money. Fame. Good looks. That damned sexy accent. Etc...<p> Internet critics like to justify their contempt for people like Jude Law because they have SO MUCH, and they piss it away by doing stupid things like fucking the babysitter.
-
...when I was the "baby" in question. Well, I fingered her... Anyway, beat that Law!
-
Singer: "I'm not the director right now so please don't think of me as that. Instead, imagine a babysitter and fuck me." Routh: "ok" Obvious? sure but so inevitable it hurts.
-
If Singer and Routh bothers everyone so much, Why not support Snyder and Hammer? Both have been happily married for years now... To women before anyone says anything...
-
More practical effects---sorry but all the digital effects seem to take away the "realness" of this kind of thing. You just know that they'd replace the clever bus throwing stunt in Superman 2 with some digital crap that wouldn't look real. Superman saving the plane in Returns had absolutely nothing on the helicopter save in Superman the Movie.<P> <P> No Luther --and definitely no land grab schemes !!!<P> <P> Routh --maybe---he was pretty good in Chuck so can act--only thing is he has the albatross of the Singer shit-fest wrapped firmly around his neck.<P> <P> Incidentally comparing him to Lazenby is interesting and, without getting into the merits of Lazenby's acting and his on screen chemistry with Rigg- it has to be said that On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a decent film--Superman Returns wasn't.<P> <P> Superman has got to be less cissy-- he was at his worst in Superman Returns but even Reeves Superman could be a bit of a wuss at times---we want a leader of men but with some fallibility.<P> <P> How about an off world story where Supes has to rescue a conquered planet with plenty of ass-kicking fun along the way. It could lead to a sequel where his actions draw the attention of the big bad behind the scenes to Earth<P> <P> Ditch super-kid---never ever ever refer to him ever again.<P> <P> No kryptonite....nooh. Or better still have a brief cameo where Luther goes at Superman again with a Kryptonite shiv only to be felled by a swift kick to the nuts--(Superman having been trained by the Dark Knight in some kick countermoves when someone tries to pull Kryptonite on him).<P> <P> Cameos--- Batman for the philosophical arguments. Singer as some weird kind of alien turd that tries to turn Superman gay.<P> <P> Put soem heart and fun back into it. The original films had their faults but they had fun, heart, a sense of the epic and characters you could actually like-- even Kidders rather mercenary Lane was hugely likeable.
-
There was on line of news and the rest was an editorial from a Roth cheerleader. I believe the other reports were they say it is unlikely that Roth will come back because they want to go in a different direction. Roth was a poor Superman and no where's near as good as christopher reeve. Anyone that watched Smallville tonight I think saw the we will see in the movie,It was the Clark that was in the elevator, A straight laced, up tight and serious Clark there is no way Roth has the ability to pull that off. My bet if they go with anyone from a previous in carnation of Superman it will be Tom Welling, but they must likely will go with someone totally new.
-
Unless you want to bury Superman. <p>I'm serious.
-
Tom Welling saved Superman on the screen with 10 years on Smallville, It was Roth that almost destroyed Superman with awful Superman Returns(Superman isn't suppose to look gay), It's because that awful movie it's been so long since there has been another movie. Tom Welling has earned and grown into the part and as a bonus for him Christopher Reeve before his untimely death turned the part over to Welling. Tom Welling has had a ten year screen test and proves with the ratings that he passes with flying colors.
-
I want to see Jude Law as Zod and give Brandon Roth another chance at Superman.
-
MEGAN FOX AS LOIS LANE! kidding.. kidding.. but seriously, I would love to see Zooey Deschanel or Kristin Bell as Lois Lane.
-
No casting from any Smallville Alum other than oh say... Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. He set a standard for live action Luthor.
