Tom Hardy To Play A "Lead Role" In Christopher Nolan's Third Batman Film!
Beaks here...
Deadline's Mike Fleming is reporting that noted badass Tom Hardy has landed a "lead role" in Christopher Nolan's untitled third Batman movie. Lots of folks are already assuming he's been cast as Edward Nigma aka The Riddler, but at no time has Nolan or anyone connected to the series - aside from Michael Caine, who seems to delight in driving the fanboys wild with speculation - indicated that this character will appear in the movie. He could be Dr. Kirk Langstrom for all we know (and fervently hope).
Until we know who Hardy's playing, you're still free to speculate that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in the running to play The Riddler.

recast her for all i give a fuck
-
but I made the mistake of reading the article. <br> <br>
-
It must be one of the shittest comicbook names ever. I mean, is Bruce's surname Atman?
-
God, I hope not. I think Nolan has more sense than to write a story about such a shitty character. But is the villain really as important as the story?
-
Nolan's third Batman movie is all shrouded in secrecy, "Who's the villain? They won't tell us!" until opening night until the lights dim....Hardy shows up all decked out in his Shinzon gear. "YEAH! WHAT'S UP NOW, BITCHEZ?! SHINZON IN THE HIZ-OUZE!!!" That's the movie I wanna seee.
-
Okay, if not Deadshot, then Prof. Hugo Strange. Someone we haven't seen onscreen (live action) before. But Hardy is good in whatever role he's given.
-
He was the best thing in Inception and is a tremendous actor. Watch Bronson for proof.
-
And his first victim will be Beaks.
-
Why not, rampant speculation + cast of Inception = 80% probability of actually happening.
-
Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. It fits with the gangster tone of the first two movies, connects Thomas Wayne to Roman's parents, thus Bruce to Roman, and if the Riddler is a villain, Roman will work with him to destroy Bruce, whom he hates because he was humiliated by him.

-
Id put a dollar on it.
-
Hugo Strange or Thomas Eliot (Hush).
-
Is it just to prolong the rumor mill's mad speculations about what role they'll be playing? It' not like the villain's identities won't be found out before the film gets too far along anyway.
-
Shittiest villain secret id: Edward Nigma. Coolest: Eobard Thawne.
-
I can't watch him in anything without the horrible, rancid taste of ST: Nemesis surfacing in the back of my throat. I know he had nothing to do with why that movie was so abysmally awful, and I know he's a decent actor, but... ugh. I just hope he's not the Riddler as I'm sure is being speculated (a speculation I don't share at this time - still too early for all that).
-
They're filming scenes in New Orleans. Hardy will be Killer Croc. Gordon-Levitt as Riddler, Cotillard as Catwoman, Ellen Page as Barbara Gordon Jr./Bat Girl, Tom Berenger as Penguin. Nolan should just title the film Batception. Actually I would see that. I would see Batception twice and then again in IMAX.

PHREEZE
-
My last name is Mann. My wife and I were expecting a daughter, and a co-worker suggested that we name her Wonderwu
-
Is Awesome. I guess with Mad Max being delayed he's free to do this. Like Bale, there are a number of Bat-characters that Hardy can pull off. I'm thinking he'll be Black Mask personally.
-
Joker = Riddler. been there done that. Something new and different please. Thank you. -Gruemanlives
-
...that's a porn destiny for sure.
-
That giggling douchebag is a ridiculous villain!</p><p>Catwoman or GTFO!</p><p>Although Black Mask would be cool too.

Anyone ever think they will keep who is playing the riddler secr
by eric haislar
If they can how fucking awesome would that be to go into number 3 not knowing who the riddler is and finding it out with batman.
-
But maybe she could get me discounts... Actually, this was a number of years ago, and the sonogram was wrong; it was a boy. True story, though....
-
I don't care what this guy is in the movie...he's awesome. even if it's "guy walking down the street #2"...he'll kill it.
-
You heard it here first mutherfuckers!!!!
-
Script is rumored to feature Dick Grayson (but NOT Robin...) Hardy certainly has the physique and style to play a trapeze artist. Though having the Flying Graysons in the script suggests some circus scenes/subplot, which would facilliate freakshow/wrestler Killer Croc as a villian.
-
Finally!
-
i guess you heard it there first :(
-
(because I'm usually wrong), but at least the cast is looking pretty damn awesome. I will say that the idea of a Nolan Riddler intrigues me no matter who plays him. Between Memento and Inception, you can tell he has a feel crime and heist films...so his Riddler could be epic. But if it's not meant to be then I won't complain... plenty of good villains left in the bullpen.
-
You heard it here first mutherfuckers!!!!!
-
Yes, that would be money.
-
For two reasons - one - it's looking like Rhys Ifans will be Lizard in the new Spidey, which will be out before Batception 3: Electric Boogaloo and they don't want to confuse the fans: Two - Killer Croc would not fit in this world he created, of a REAL life hero, no fantasy elements. Three - I'm surprised no one has mentioned Zsasz as the villian. He's dark, distrubing, real, and Bronson could play deranged psychopath in his sleep.
-
For sure.
-
Hush would be a GREAT villain.
-
from the Inception movie, since Nolan always uses the same actors.cool nevertheless.
-
Probably Black Mask, but Croc or Deadshot would be spectacular too.
-
Alright, so Nolan says he wants villains that haven't been in other Batman films. He also says he doesn't want villains that couldn't realistically appear in the real world. That last one pretty much already rules out Killer Croc (unless they go by the "skin condition" route the animated series did, but even that's probably stretching it as far as Nolan goes). But then we learn that they're shooting in New Orleans due to the tax credit being offered for that. Suddenly, everyone thinks "swamp! KILLER CROC!" Why didn't they do the same thing with Green Lantern, which is also shooting in New Orleans for tax purposes? "Green Lantern? Swamps? OMG SOLOMON GRUNDY IS GOING TO BE THE VILLAIN!" Seriously, this conclusion baffles me.
-
He'll need some fake scars to keep score and off he goes.
-
Zsasz was played by Tim Booth already in Batman Begins. He had a somewhat important, though small, role in that film. He could still work as a main villain in the upcoming film, but I would hope Nolan and Co. are more interested in bringing new villains to the screen.
-
Before Batman Begins I had no idea how Scarecrow or Ras Al Ghul would fit into a "realistic" world. If Croc is (one of the villians) in Batception 3, he'll be portrayed as a human with a cancerous skin condition or just as a masked wrestler/circus freak. Croc has been portrayed realistically in some comics, alongside his more cartoonish appearance. Killer Croc (and Deadshot) appears in the animated Gotham Knight, which was set in the Nolan Gotham Universe.
-
All good. I'd take any of them (Although I'm still partial to the idea of a Nolan Riddler). I also understand that the Joker won't be in it and I've come to terms with that, but at least name-check him (let us know he's still rotting in Arkham or something).
-
I don't understand the logic either. Even doing a quick Google search would bring up results that pretty much show Nolan won't do anything like that in his harshly "real" Batman films. Now, will Waylon Jones be in it? Who knows? But my money is on NO.
-
Neither does Killer Croc nor Clayface--they're not "realistic". It would take someone like Sam Raimi to bring those characters to life.
-
but the fans want something fresh like black mask. my problem is the riddler cant really cause that much havoc compared to the joker.
-
That's a good point about Croc being in the Nolan-verse cartoon. But that's actually a good argument for why the character *won't* appear in a live-action film by Nolan. It worked in the cartoon because it was... a cartoon. That's why NolanCo was ok with it. It was done in the "right" medium (there were articles on that very subject when Gotham Knight came out - I'm sure they can be found on the web still). That, and ...well, he already did Killer Croc then by that logic. I don't see him as the type to repeat himself like that.
-
i think its time
-
True - while he was played by another actor, that hasn't stopped the Bat-series from recasting. In the original quadrilogy, Harvey Dent was played by Billy Dee Williams in Batman, and Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever. In the new series, Rachael has been played by Katie Holmes then Maggie Gyllenhall. Just think it's an interesting character that deserves more time in the light. He was reduced to a pussy in the Arkham Asylum game.
-
But I am a shit heel.
-
If you don't believe me, you need to watch "Borderland". If you've seen "Borderland", just try and tell me I'm wrong.
-
DEADSHOT would have potential here, though you've got to wonder about the interpretation of the character, considering DC Comics history. But the idea of him being a deadly killer (hired or not) on the hunt for the Dark Knight sounds interesting. (Batman is an outlaw...so the "Dark Knight" even sounds more fitting than Batman, for a name.) <P>I look forward to the continued theme of escalation...and would welcome a surprise of Superman making an appearance (and Batman making an appearance in Superman's flick, as well). Connected movies is an interesting idea, too.
-
There, I've said it.
-
He had a bit part in Batman Begins. Nolan didn't think the character was interesting enough to give a more than a half-ass cameo.
-
why would anyone cast him as Firefly?<P>Snore.
-
I'm pretty sure Tom Hardy is in fact gay...and also could kick your scrawny (or fat and pimply) ass. Then he'd probably fuck it. Major bummer, dude! Anyway, my vote is for Maxie Zeus.
-
There i said it.
-
It is really unfortunate they killed off Two Face in Dark Knight. The reveal of Dent-to-Two Face would've made a really badass cliffhanger ending to TDK. Plus, the villain deserves a full movie to take over/unite Gotham's crime families against Gordon and Batman.
-
to regain the trust of the GC citizens and become again their protectors.ofc the main villain of the movie will have to play a major role with that but how exactly? <br /> <p>oh and another thing. what about Joker? are we going to have references to him trhoughout the movie? is he going to have an unexpected cameo, without showing his face, at the end of the movie/credits? are WB willing to bring back the Joker in B4 with another actor? well?
-
Tom Hardy is free to do whatever. that's cool though, let's us see what he can do with competent directors.
-
but I can't help thinking that Dark Knight will be impossible to top, in the Batman universe at least. Inception was fucking mindblowing, and Hardy was the balls in it.
-
He totally kicked ace in BRONSON and nearly stole the show in INCEPTION. I'm not the least bit surprised that Nolan would find a place for him in the BATMAN franchise.<P>In fact, he should just reprise his role as Charles Bronson = he'd be right at home in Arkham Asylum...and he could dish out punch-ups all day.
-
One of my favorite actors right now and one of my most anticipated movies. Sign me the fuck up.
-
The movie will be too long, with a silly third act.
-
Why would you cast this boring old bastard in a Batman movie anyway?
-
Oct. 13, 2010, 1:53 p.m. CST
Robin would have to be one of the Asylum prisoners
by DioxholsterRestored
who became a vigilante like batman. Way better than in comics.
-
already had a batshit crazy clown villain. or maybe jim carrey just ruined the riddler for me forever. oh, and no robin. just cuz it's robin.
-
JGL for the RIDDLER.<p>Marion Cotillard or Emily Blunt for Catwoman.
-
... so like, having a guy get half burned up, then refuse any burn treatment, antiseptics and painkillers, and have the hospital in total agreement with that, then have the same guy not die from septic shock and put on his half-burned suit and start killing people just because the guy who burned him showed up for a little pep talk is TOTALLY believable???
-
people would melt over it. would be sooooooooooooo effing cool.
-
It would hurt to see the third batman be a shit film but the fact that so many people will look like twats for being absolutely convinced about their speculations. It would make everything just riiiggghhttt.
-
might like to see dicaprio as riddler. just curious if he could play a part like that.
-
Bane gets a bad wrap because of how horribly he was handled in the Schumacher movie, but the potential for the character is definitely there. In the comics, Bane was the son of a Caribbean revolutionary... his father is given a life sentence in the toughest prison in the Caribbean, but he flees, and the government forces (then infant) Bane to serve the sentence for his father. Bane spends his entire life behind bars, becoming a killing machine and a tactical criminal genius. You're telling me that Nolan can't do something awesome with THAT? And you're telling me that after seeing Tom Hardy as another entire-life-behind-bars character in "Bronson," you wouldn't want to see him give that a try? It'd be fucking awesome.
-
Come on Chris!
-
But that seems the most obvious, Killer Croc too I suppose. Rather see Penguin or Riddler though.
-
I think the reason is that Tom Hardy is going to be The Joker. I know they said they wouldn't go and replace Ledger, but the WB is going to get their money. It is precisely the reason why it's a big freakin' secret. Hmmm.
-
Helen Mirren as Dr. Leslie Thompkins. I'm hoping they'll be stronger female characters in Bat3. My one complaint about BB and DK (and with all of Nolan's films) was the weak female characters. Let's see a Gotham with more powerful women. Dr. Thomkins, Bat Girl, Catwoman. It would be fascinating to see how Batman/Bruce Wayne has to deal with his rich white male privilege being challenged.
-
too unrealistic for the Nolanverse.it has already been used in the Shumacher fiasco.
-
Michael Cane likes to drive fanboys.
-
Hmmm, I kinda like that idea.
-
but face it, he's going to be the Riddler.
-
by GC to discover Batman and catch him.why not?<br /> In fact why not a team of professionals ala Inception who are hired to catch Batman.you can have in that team Deadshot,Riddler,Catwoman as a ninja woman or some shit like that.
-
Is the "Venom" being pumped into him to give him super strength. I understand that if you take that out it will remove a lot of the visual/comic book-y flare of the character, but its really not necessary to the psychology of the character. And Hardy is already huge.

Apparently...it DID pay off to dream a little bigger.....darling
by snaps_provolone
Sorry. Had to go there.
-
I'd bet a dollar fifty on it
-
Made no sense whatsoever to kill Two-Face- stupid ass idea.
-
Terrible move after an awesome origin & introduction to the character.
-
"As for the last film? Heath Ledger's performance is overrated, the movie was about 25 minutes too long, and the wasteful use of Two Face was a crying shame." <p> I agree with the last two of these assertions. <p> Hmmm, I may be displaying my ignorance of the characters here (I've never spent a lot of time in the Batman universe), but wouldn't a Riddler movie have too similar a structure to The Dark Knight? Seems that the Joker set up a lot of intellectual traps for Batman, with deadly consequences. Would a plot with the Riddler not go along similar lines, with the clock ticking and people's lives on the line as the Batman tried to figure out where they were to save them? <p> I would have thought (?) that the threat would need to be of a different kind this time. Although hopefully not the "this time his worst enemy is himself!" plot we saw in Superman 3 and Spider-Man 3. (Anyone notice that Spider-Man 2 also involved the hero ditching/losing his super-powers to live a normal life with the girl he loved, just like Superman 2?)
-
One thing I wondered: was it absolutely 100% clear that he was dead, rather than unconscious? I guess so...would feel like a bit of a cheat if they said he was still alive. But it didn't seem to be signed off in triplicate that he'd officially bought the farm.
-
Put a Superman cameo in there! Fanboys will eat that shit up! And it's a perfect way to set up a new Superman movie--- WHY NOT, NOLAN? We are talking about the DC Universe....!!!
-
Superman and kick the crap out of Batman!<p>You heard it here first!
-
has been cast as the Riddler, acording to someone i know who is a wealth manager for him, Bradley Cooper, Halle Berry, and others. I hope this is true, but i have a lot of admiration for Tom Hardy. Good presence. She also says the next Hangover takes place in Bangkok
-
Batman:Hangover in Bang Cock
-
We've already had the ideological challenge of the Joker, so I think it's time Batman faced an opponent who's a match for him in the strength/skills department. I'd personally like to see someone like Deadshot fill that role.
-
Guess I had to see Inception. Thanks, imdb.
-
is welcome to bang cock me anytime.
-
There I said it.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX6Fa_bVCro&feature=player_embedded It's so fucking awesome!
-
is welcome to bang cock me anytime....err other way around.
-
If you've masturbated, you've had gay sex...think about it.
-
Not to start shooting until 2012 now, fuck knows what's going on now. Just hoping Miller get's his shit together and re-casts; Bana should have got the gig.
-
Shame. Oh, well. Back to work. <p> ARMIE HAMMER FOR SUPERMAN! <p> ARMIE HAMMER FOR SUPERMAN! <p> ARMIE HAMMER FOR SUPERMAN!
-
The man who killed the Grayson family. He looks the part. I don't see him as Riddler, he is too physical. Though Deadshot would be awesome as well. Also, it adds to the realism Nolan wants. I don't buy the Killer Croc rumors. I say Riddler/Selina/Zucco and maybe Penquin as a cameo as an arms dealer. Either way, good pick up, he was great in Inception.
-
But I dont think he will be the main villian. He's a hired gun, Someone hired him for a job???
-
That's what my money's on.
-
too small for bane<p> course they can make him look bigger<br> But still why hire a small guy to play someone big
-
I masturbate with my ex-girlfriend's disembodied hand?
-
The most complex villain of them all. Can't wait for Nolan to explore the psychological inner self of Egghead. Word on the street is that Nolan wants to splice Vincent Price's take on the character ala Marlon Brando as Jor-El in Singers "Superman Returns".
-
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
-
Tom Hardy would make an excellent Riddler. Make it happen, Nolan!
-
I don't know why the geekry is taking for granted that the Riddler is in Nolan's next Batman movie.
-
The first decent item of news in this franchise Good actor. Bale will look(sound) even more ridiculous than usual next to Hardy's distinctively rich voice.Less growling more acting please.
-
Now that Batman is officially an outcast, the mob regains strength in Gotham. They decide that although Joker was crazy, he had the right idea. The elect Black Mask as boss and he strangles Gotham in a grip of crime to buckle the government once and for all. He wants all of Gotham to be like the Narrows where law is sketchy at best and the mob is rolling in the spoils of human misery.</p><p>Meanwhile Wayne Enterprises is being brought down by a scandal which is syphoning all of Bruce's attention. That guy from the last movie wrote a book fingering Bruce Wayne as the Batman and disclosing Fox's research division as a partner in his nightly vigilantism. It's all he can do to keep his father's empire from crumbling away into nothing.</p><p>He finds solace in a new executive in the company, Selina Kyle. They seem to have an animal attraction and she's very tough and straightforward. She reminds him of Rachel.</p><p>He starts to think that maybe Wayne Enterprises is what keeps him donning the cowl because he won't let go of his father's legacy so he begins to consider selling his share of the company so he can just be with Selina and try to live a normal life.</p><p>By the third act we discover that Selina is really Talia Al Ghul and her father is Black Mask. They have been working together to destroy Gotham from the inside out.
-
There really are no other good villains other than the Joker so actually, who really cares. Recast the Joker, I dont care!!!!!
-
i'm on a months program of antibiotics and according to my 5 min internet research, their killing the good bacteria in my digestive system and thus making me feel bloated and constipated and generally shit. I ate a packet of dried prunes earlier and had a full glass of prune juice and I just had the biggest poop attack ive ever had, seriously, it was like peeing out my ass. However I still feel bloated and my 5 min reseatch suggests that taking probiotics help when taking antibiotics. can anyone validate that? Asimov? Rogue? Jehovas witness? hell even Choppah? please help me. you're my only hope.
-
Why do you want to know if Tom Hardy is gay or not and why do you think I want to know? He's a GUY! <b>I HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE SEXUALITY OF OTHER MEN. AT ALL.</b> You can all be asexual for all I care.
-
Its possible you are salt depleted..... that doesn't help .Also you may be watching the wrong movies.
-
When I realized it was a dead gerbil. I just thought you'd all like to know.
-
Although Zsasz would be pretty close, character-wise, to TDK Joker. My money's on Hush, Riddler, or Black Mask, and maybe Catwoman (although she might be played out). Ra's and Thalia may still be in the mix too. If Nolan created a more fantastic universe with the first two films, Clayface could have been interesting, but at this point, he has to go with more "real" Batman characters, meaning gangsters, insane people, and corrupt business men (and no super powers).
-
My wish list: Batman 3 = Se7en in Gotham City. And the Tumbler? It DID come in black, and that's the one that got trashed.
-
He looks way too much like him, and he's said he would do it -
-
His political machinations would fit perfectly into the current climate.
-
So he will either be the Joker, or not in it at all.
-
...she would have been a SPLENDID Harley Quinn.
-
...even if she isn't called Catwoman. She could be the love-interest, "cat-burglar" that pulls Bruce Wayne/Batman between the two worlds of crime/crimefighting. Great sexual tension and a bit of humor as well. Also think it would be cool to have Bruce actually retire the Batman after achieving his goal for Gotham City. Would be a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Nolan was actually hinting at the possibility in an interview a while back.
-
you could be right about the movies, I watched The human Centipede when all this started. I think the antibiotics are causing it so i'm gonna take acidophilous to counter them. to the fella with haemmoroids, tell us more.
-
You wanna explain what that horrible montage of images put together was awesome..?!<p>what I just saw was rubbish!
-
Anyone else wish Nolan was actually doing an adaptation of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns? Set it 50 years after DK, cast Clint Eastwood as a broken Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker.
-
And Batman is the "villain".
-
now I gotta look him up GREAT
-
I'd love to see him play a villain. He's a fresh new face and can act as good as anybody.
-
Just have Bruce Wayne use his actual voice when he's all alone with someone like Lucius Fox who knows his identity. Just shrink the size of batman's ginormous head and thicken his neck a little. Just have people bleed a little when batman punches them in the face as hard as he can repeatedly. Just have him do possible things instead of having him flip entire semi trucks with a hook and cable stuck in the front grill. Change anyone of those things and you've got a better movie.
-
a true test to the dark knight.
-
he is not going to be Joker,Zsaz, killer croc or even Bane.from his appearance, attitude, and style,he seems more suitable to be used as a rival rich businessman/playboy against Bruce Wayne.<br /> <p>Since Batman is a criminal in pursuit in this movie, the next logical step is to focus and give more movie screen time to Bruce Wayne's character.and if you are going to explore this character, in order to make it more interesting you need a strong opponent against Bruce Wayne,an opponent who is equally smart, rich and powerfull as Wayne.<br /> <p>Maybe an opponent who not only threatens the Wayne company (and GC as an extension) but he is also after the same woman-prize of the movie,as Wayne is,who probably might be a rich high society gal who in the nights she becomes a thief as a hobby and steals from the other rich people.(yeah i am talking about Catwoman).that way you can spice up the movie and make it a lot more interesting for an adult audience.<br /> <p>Ofc since we are talking about Batman and you are going to have a super-hero confrontation by the end of the flick, that means that Tom Hardy's businessman character will have an alter-ego as well.A good looking, philanthropist bussinessman who has a dark secret identity and lives a double life.Thats why i have to agree with the other talkbackers who say that he might be Black Mask as the new boss of the underworld.<br /> <p>I dont think that he is going to be the new Ras Al Gu,since they are not going to retcon him from the first movie, and ofc Ras has a daughter,so Tom cant play his son.(unless he plays her brother and Wayne falls in love with Talia while they try to destroy him and GC?)<br /> <p>the Penguin needs an actor with a lot different appearance and charisma,so i dont think he will play that character.I dont remember some other villain from the comics who leads a double life as a bussinessman/villain,so my bet is on Black Mask.<br /> <p>unless ofc the rumours that he plays Dick Grayson are true, and there is a possibility that they are true since he fits that role too.
-
I hope so anyway.
-
He'd make a good Riddler, Deadshot or Joker in my book. Killer Croc too, but like the Joker thats never going to happen in the Nolanverse...i like to think KC exists as a construct in Scarecrows mind when he gets the fear-gas hit and stares at Bats.<p>Ellen Page as Harley would be great but its not going to happen now, i'd be very suprised if Nolan is going to find the time or worth to put her in his final Batman film and have her stand on her own.
-
Allow someone to make more Batman movies that had a dark tone but will allow sci-fi elements? I still want a better Penguin and Mr. Freeze and Clay Face! I think you can make a Batman in this Nolan made Gotham but with villains with sci-fi elements. Because down this road you just have regular type thugs with "nick names".
-
Maybe have the entire movie as a legal drama. Wayne only puts the suit on once in the film, at home when night when he's angry and bored. He asks Alfred if he fancies a fight.
-
I think i'll jizz in my brain.
-
You know, Scott Pilgrim slept in the same bed as a gay dude in both the comic AND the movie. Sometimes with his gay roommate's boyfriend as well. And he walks in on his gay roommate having sex. You either are the biggest idiot in the fucking universe, pulling our leg, or bugnuts. Oh and there was a ton of fighting in "Scott Pilgrim" as well, you fucking clown.
-
The Clock King! (I'm kidding to those who take posts personally)
-
Ever see those super creepy body-mod dudes? The ones that surgically alter their tongues, put plasic inserts under their scalps to look like horns, and tattoo their whole bodies? What if croc was some kind of badass S&M psychopath weirdo? I could totally see that fitting into Nolan's vision.
-
I suspect he's going to be a cop or the new DA or something (Gotham does have to replace Dent). He could still be an antagonist, Gotham PD is going to be hunting Batman, so he could be the guy pushing Gordon to bring Batman in.
-
I think that is the problem with using The Riddler in BATMAN 3, and that's been done to death (pun unintended) in that series. If anything Joker was already basically a version of Riddler in DARK KNIGHT. As much as I like Riddler as an iconic character, I think it would be too reminiscent of DARK KNIGHT. <br> <br> I can't see Hardy as Penguin, who along with Catwoman is the only remaining villain generally known to the public, and I have to guess that Nolan will try to have a recognizable, iconic villain for the conclusion of his trilogy. So maybe Hardy is a second-tier villain like Black Mask or Deadshot, ***or*** maybe he's GREEN ARROW. <br> <br> Or maybe he just pulls a cameo a la Bill Fichtner in DARK KNIGHT.
-
http://www.thelizardman.com/ Originally in the comics Killer Croc was a criminal-mastermind wannabe, similar to Black Mask. Black Mask is a great idea, I just don't think that character has the cultural history or name recognition to be a major character.
-
Having him as Joker would be a double insult.
-
STARGATE UNIVERSE on TUESDAY!
-
claws and razor sharp teeth.
-
If Tim Hardy ends up being the Riddler, it'll work. But from all that I've seen, Tom Hardy is fit for more imposing characters with a biting wit (like Inception or Bronson). Perhaps he'll be playing another character from the comics that I'm not aware of or perhaps even a new character created by Nolan, maybe even the new District Attorney who takes the role of capturing Batman head on? Don't know but I feel like he may not be a villain considering the lack of hype or surprise of this casting unlike what Heath Ledger had upon being revealed as the Joker.
-
Please stick with ONE VILLAIN. The Dark Knight/Spiderman 3 failed because of having too many villains.
-
is quality. hoped Nolan would use him in this. Could he be the new D.A?
-
Psych!
-
I thought Nolan was going to break away from the new film/new villain shitty formula for comic movies. We already did that for a third batman movie, remember? Outside if the kickass U2 song, there was NOTHING good about it. I wish Nolan would have the balls to do the third installment as Dark Knight Returns and end it at that. I'm just going to pretend that this series ended with the 2nd one - kind of like Superman.
-
Hardy will be playing Harvey Bullock.

I have certain connections to this production. I've posted legit spoilers before and would lose my job if my id were revealed. Robin is in this but not like you would think. He is a misguided vigilante who takes up the mantle while Bruce is hunted. He is more violent and destructive in his approach and Bruce will have to risk all to stop him or bring him around to playing by his rules. The movie will center around themes of what happens when a void is created by the good guys and bad guys. Batman's absence inspires Robin while the mob and Joker's absence inspires Riddler. The first film's theme was escalation and Bruce dealing with what he has started. This one is about redemption, legacy and Bruce coming to terms with his destiny and role as protector. It will be a much 'brighter' film. Trust me, you heard it here first. (I got a peek at the script.)
-
Who is brought in by Gotham PD to catch Batman and expose his identity. Sort of along the lines of Willem Dafoes character in Boondock saints, but waaaaaaay smarter. Instead of a cliche villian leaving riddles for Batman to solve, he's a man adept at SOLVING riddles. That would suit the Nolan-verse (I would want Chiwetel Ejifor, but I know thats an oddball choice) Then throw in Penguin as a german industrialist trying to make a hostile takeover of Wayne Enterprizes, and Catwoman (all working independently of each other), so that Bruce/Batman is being attacked on all fronts
-
...Azrael? Since Batman is now on the run, other vigilantes with more extreme crimefighting methods could try to take his place as Gotham´s protector. The problem? The new Batman (Azrael) is fucking nuts and Wayne returns to kick his ass. I could totally see Hardy playing Jean-Paul Valley´s madness in an interesting way. AND he has the imposing build to portray this worthy foe.
-
What would everyone think if they merged Talia Al Ghul, and Catwoman into one character? She would have the same league of shadows training as Bruce Wayne, so running around the city as cat-ninja would jive. She could still be Selena Kyle also, as that could just be the alias she has come to Gotham under. Afterall isn't Henri Duchard and Ra's Al Ghul 2 seperate characters in the comics? But it worked fine to merge them in Batman Begins. I'd vote for Eva Green or Tricia Helfer.

Ooh, let's worry about having NO non-realistic villains...
by spud_mcspud_returns
...In a movie about a guy who fights crime DRESSED AS A FUCKING BAT...
-
Man, I just fucking exploded...
-
....and Tom Hardy is not the Riddler or Robin. Neither of those roles are cast. He will be playing a 2nd villain who ascends in the mob's absence.....Black Mask. The character adopts the persona to strike fear in law enforcement much like Batman did in the mob. Like Robin, Black Mask is an extremely violent and recklessgang leader and he and Robin terrorize Gotham as they battle each other. Bruce wrestles with what he's started and how to deal with it.
-
Just noticed you posted the same suggestion of Riddler as manhunter detective chasing Batman, didn't catch that earlier, but I'm glad someone else agrees.
-
Here's how Nolan could do it: Edward Nigma is a super genius the Gotham PD hires to discover Batman's true identity. He does, but is super unbalanced, so he uses the info to personally torture Bruce
-
I just sort of took it that he was the Riddler, he looks enough like him, and his name was even MISTER REESE, as in: Myste-Ries!
-
IMHO..... and Hardy has a pass for life from me for Bronson.
-
If they are going with Riddler I fully expect them to go with calling him Edward Nashton rather than Nygma, much like how Scarecrow and Two-Face were mainly referred to by their proper names as opposed to their conventional nicknames. I remember all the bitching on these very boards when Heath Ledger was cast as Joker. It was all "Brokeback Joker" and "how can he top Jack?" and "why is Joker wearring make-up? That's not in the comics, this film is gonna suck". Remember all that shit? That came from the fact so few of you could imagine a NEW version of The Joker, a Joker that didn't fall into chemicals, a Joker that didn't cackle and crack one liners, but a Joker that was loyal to the character in the books and also offerring a brand new aesthetic to go along with it that made the original look incredibly tame. I have faith that they'll do the same with Riddler, if that's who Hardy will be playing. People need to realise that this character will be adapted according to the story. Character wise he won't be stepping on Joker's toes, nor will his character arc follow the same line. The whole psychological potential of this character has remained untapped. Again this will require people to think outside the box and comprehend the possibilities of The Riddler in Nolans universe. Either way, Tom Hardy is going to steal this movie, I'm calling it right now.
-
...is the man for the job - as anyone who has seen 'American Cowslip' can attest.
-
It also bugs me when people complain about killing 2face off. What more could they do with him? What makes twoface interesting is that he starts out as Harvey Dent, and the whole movie of TDK was about the rise and fall of Harvey Dent, if he survived it would render that entire arc pointless, do people really want twoface riding around Gotham robbing 2 banks twice a day, every TWOSday? But having said that I would be all for having Joseph Gordon Levitt as Joker, in Arkham doing a silence of the lambs thing, and work Harley in there (I agree Britney Murphy was born to play Harley, its a shame she'll never get to).
-
Not sure of the actress's name, but she plays Steve Buscemi's girlfriend on BOARDWALK EMPIRE, and has a smoking body, and exactly the right kind of voice for Harley. Also she shows her amazing tits in every episode so she gets bonus points for that.
-
hated him even more when he nabbed the role of Max, and now.... Ah shit man!! JGL seemed like a shoe-in, to, well, just about everyone and he is very reminiscent of the Ledge. I was hoping who ever he was if he was he would claim relation to the joker maybe even site the Glasgow scars as his doing- sibling rivalry and what not. So of course everyone is hoping- well most everyone is hoping that he is in somehow. OK so yeah I do not like this guy, maybe that opinion will change with this movie. I said i didn't like him right. And it's not because he's bi sexual, or knows what a drown cat acts and sounds like. Oh well if he is Mr. E he Nolan really tries to update who E is he shouldn't have much of a face to see or any other identifying normals. Like teeth or finger prints or ears or a nose. Yeah that is the R-man I see in my dreams. Someone who beat the jailing system inside and truly became an enigma for all. Who is he, was he- no way to know. Burned the dead during the riots, dismembered his face, pull and smashed all of his teeth, cut off his finger tips and tattooed his entire body- Whatever he is, he's dangerous and he belongs in max for the rest of his life. He knows things, he has a plan. He's waiting for something.
-
Maybe? Surly cop who gets in Bruce Wayne's way?
-
I hope he rubs purple face paint around his eyes. Rather than wearing some gay zoro bandit ninja turtle eye mask. if his face was all fucked and cut up to hide who he really was. and inked the fuck out prison style. I'm telling you the fucker would be visually disturbing as all fuck. After Ledger died and I saw TDK. and thought about the Jokers game in the film. I couldn't help but to imagine how more fucked up it would be to have a criminal that kills himself in the beginning to start a game that plays with out him and he leaves his body as full of cryptic tats as a codekey to try to stop those events. I mean how fucked up is that a criminal you cant reason with to prevent his crimes. He is already dead for his cause and maybe the only way to win is to be just as brazen and brave as he is. After all I'm more terrified of terrorist who are not afraid to blow themselves up for the cause. They don't fear death, they welcome it. You can say we feel the same way but I dont see tons of Gi's strapping on bombs and walking out into public areas to kill themselves and others to send a message. That kind of criminal is fucking nightmare sauce. He doesn't need to witness the results- there is no money needs, nothing there's no way to bargain there's no way to abaid. It's in motion and the only way to stop it is to be learn how to be smarter than the game.

That's actually a really great (and original) take on it TheJudg
by Rebel Scumb
Riddler always seemed to me like a great character who has never been executed properly. I remembered him being cool in the early 1990s animated show, and in terms of his posturing and demeanor he was, but the actual episodes he was in were lame, and all dealt with virtual reality and futuristic theme parks and other dumb stuff. Personally, I always prefer Batman without any science fiction, I always feel like Batman should remain the strangest thing in Gotham City
-
He's certainly gained weight since that travesty...
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mask_%28comics%29
-
I mean if EVERYONE is hunting him, then go with the "open season" theme and bring in Bane, KGBeast, Croc, The Terminator (Slade Wilson), and Ra's Al Ghul's daughter if you want. Hell, he could get befriended by Catwoman who helps him evade those hunting him...
-
the muscle and the brains. Although if you've seen BRONSON is reasonable to say Hardy could play Bane
-
Penguin. Just as Black Mask could tie into the mob stuff so could Penguin. He doesn't have to have the crazy characteristics. Just make him a higher class of criminal clearing out the mob in an attempt to take over Gotham and do Batmans job for him.
-
nolan's nod to killer croc was having one of the joker's goons (one of the couple that bring his 'dead' body in to Gambol) have tight, reptilian looking corn rows, and be called 'croc' in the credits. that's all we are going to see of a killer named croc.
-
because he is misguided in how he handles the criminals. batman or Gordon capture him and he goes to jail- where he eventually meets up with Mr. E- and since he's a crime fighter of sorts- robin that is the prisoners are none to kind to him- he is raped and beaten- and now he wants revenge on batman or the the Gotham police and crime-fighting system. I tossed out just such an idea here many many times and was shoot down again and again. If this is true I am very happy. Tom looks about right. Ok so robin in jail is fucked up- time for an infirmary visit. this is when he meets. Mr.E- a unique character in his own right. A man who beat the system from within. Mr.E dismembered himself during a prison riot. Cut off his nose his ears his finger tips and pulled all his teeth- he was found by the riot squad burning strange symbols into his flesh with a hot fork smashing his pulled teeth with a frying pan, all while a stack of dead bodies burned behind him. No one knows who the fuck he was. And who he is now scares them all. He manipulates robin- to plan an escape. Together they pan to get vengence on the city, and the batman.
-
for pain fucking with my typist skills. Arggggh, Well it's still there. All is well.
-
What the fuck happened to D.Vader?
-
Is they could still do a blood/DNA test to determine his identity
-
He said "No Robin". Please...they gotta keep Robin out of this. He always signals the downfall of the franchise. (Sucks in the comic books too.) Hey...they can always bring Joker back...just have him fall into a vat of chemicals which distorts his face into...a different actor!
-
Hardy would be good as Black Mask, and Black Mask is a good villain for the Nolan-verse: interesting but realistic, mob-tied, etc.***Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Jude Law as the Riddler. Look at Jude Law's performance in ROAD TO PERDITION as a template for the Riddler. The Riddler could be a master detective like Batman, albeit a twisted psychopathic one with a compulsion to stage elaboarate crimes that only another genius could figure out.***Ellen Page would be a good Harley Quinn.***Joaquin Phoenix would make a good Joker in a cameo role, perhaps from his cell in Arkham.***Rachael Weisz, Angelina Jolie, Neve Cambell, etc, etc, there are a lot of actresess that would make a good Catwoman/Selina Kyle. I agree with the previous poster who said that Nolan's Bat-films need stronger female leads. Maybe a Rene Montoya role?***It is too bad that they killed Two-Face before he was even up-and-running as a villain. The whole Harvey Dent story was great, but it defeats all of that set-up to go to the trouble of creating Two-Face, then killing him off in the same film before you even get the chance for him to run free as a villain for very long.***Nolan could also bring back Ra's Al-Ghul and introduce Talia. My opinion is that Liam Neeson was not actually playing the true Ra's Al-Ghul, but was the real Henri Ducard, acting as yet another front for the real Ra's Al-Ghul, whom Batman/Bruce Waybe has yet to actually meet in person. Ra's Al-Ghul has plots within plots, and Neeson could simply have been playing another one of Ra's Al-Ghul's chief lieutenants, Henir Ducard, masquerading as Ra's Al-Ghul while the real Ra's was remaining in the Shadows.***Bob Hoskins would make a good Penguin.***
-
Black Mask content still needs to be "monkeyed" with a bit to pull it from the last two treatments . . .
-
becuase he would have to be a criminal with a dna record used against him. did you ever watch the hbo special with that guy who was raping his paitents and he placed a tube inside his arm with someone elese blood so when they took his blood they got different DNA than what they had for evidence. Theres always a walk around. Maybe they find a tube in his arm, that he cut out while he was inside. A tube that was cleaned or burned. There are ways. Something about TDK hit a big imagination nerve in my head. Maybe my ideas suck- fuck if I know.
-
I do hope at the very least there is some globetrotting as that has always made the Nolan Batman's feel unique, and more epic. Strictly speaking TDK doesn't need the whole Hong Kong excursion subplot, if they were looking to trim the budget and running time they easily could have written all the stuff with Lao out, or localized him in Gotham, but the movie feels SO much bigger because its in there. Marion Coltard would also be fine as Catwoman methinks. But I'm still pulling for Chewitel Ejifor for Riddler, especially based on his character from Serenity. Imagine him in a dapper three piece suit, of muted green and purple (not enough to seem cartoonish, but something a stylish black guy would actually wear) with a fedora. "Riddle me this? Who in Gotham city actually has the money and resources to be the batman?"
-
Can someone explain Black Mask to me, I've never read any comics with him? I still have trouble believing they would use one of the less iconic villians in such a big movie.
-
...(aka Tegujai Batir, Queen Of All Things Batman, etc.) think about the latest BATMAN business. AICN seems to be lacking a certain Batman-pajamas quotient without those two Eeyores around.
-
He could of had the exact same role as he did, nothing bigger or more comicbooky, but just if they had made the Penguin was the godfather of the gotham Mob that batman takes down. Wilkinsons even a good choice.
-
My brother had the suggestion that Penguin could be a lot older, someone like Michael Gambon or Brian Cox, and actually be someone from Alfred's past. Aparently there was a cartoon or something where Penguin was Alfred's nemesis.
-
yeah?
-
I think it sounds interesting. It's got shades of Miller's Dark knight sequel with Robin being sort of fucked up and a doppelgänger for Bruce. And Riddler can play out as an admirer of Joker in a way that gives a kind of continuation of Heath's amazing performance without dishonoring it. I always thought of Riddler as a Joker copy, but in this case they can make it an obvious inspiration and connection. That can work.
-
My god I'd love to see that. Especially a Darwyn Cooke/Ed Brubaker version.
-
Not sure why no one seems to think they could pull off a nice recasting of the Joker. Ledger rules (R.I.P.), but his tragic death shouldn't be the death of the character, too. Let's say a year or two in the asylum changes a man. As long as you cast someone who has a similar body type as Ledger, that actor wouldn't have the pressure of trying to imitate him. Insanity gives a perfect opportunity for a new actor to make the role his own. Consider: *Ryan Gosling *Joe Gordon *Michael Pitt *Ben Foster And, for an older Joker, in a re-boot: *Crispin Glover *Adrien Brody *Michael Imperioli
-
Just imagine her in skin tight pvc.
-
Nolan's take on Robin is interesting if they keep him as written. In the draft I read, Robin does not end up Batman's partner and is actually called 'Robin' because he is mocked by the media as a Batman wannabe. The script describes his costume as a nightwing type outfit and he calls himself Nightwing. He has also lost his parents but in very different circumstances. Refreshingly, Bruce uses his detective skills discovers who he is, and sees the younger man as a reflection of himself and kindred spirit. He and Alfred have conversations throughout the treatment (similar to the Dark Knight) about his responsibility, etc. Good stuff if executed right and I think Nolan will deliver. As Bruce redeems him and allows him to return to some sort of normal life, he redeems himself, and he accepts the mantle and his destiny. It read as a great way to end the story and Bruce journey from Batman Begins.
-
with Nolan's Batman. Long boring procedural cop shows don't make for good superhero sci-fi/fantasy.
-
...the more it would make sense to have Tom Hardy play Bane. If he bulked up (like he did for Bronson) he could look pretty intimidating. And if you've ever read the Knightfall series, you'll know that Bane is the only villain intelligent enough to have ever figured out who Batman is. The ending of The Dark Knight gave us a pretty clear indication where Nolan was going to take things next time; Batman is finally an outlaw, hunted at every turn by Gotham PD with Gordon having to lead the hunt (whilst secretly sabotaging it whenever he can to help Batman). So here's how you could play the story out....Batman is investigating a string of crimes that are seemingly faultless; no obvious clues, no witnesses, nothing. Behind these crimes is Bane; a criminal of superior intellect and physical strength who uses both of these gifts to not only commit his crimes but to also perform them so perfectly that little evidence is left. But as we all know, Batman is the master detective and he's getting closer and closer to discovering Bane. All the time, Batman is forced to operate his investigations as secretly as possible and avoid exposure because Gotham PD are hot on his tail. But Bane wants to get his hands on Batman first so that he can eliminate the one true threat to his crime business. The film then becomes a three way chase; Gotham PD are after Batman, Batman is after Bane and Bane is also after Batman, the only question being who will get to who first. And Batman's only real allie - Jim Gordon - is fast running out of ways to help his friend.
-
Just kidding.. Tom Hardy ROCKS!
-
Sounds terrible. I remember back before the Dark Knight came out, someone had inside knowledge about the movie...they said, Batman developed a cell phone that can detect crazy people...and that's how he finds the joker....is this ringing a bell to anyone else?
-
Wouldn't it be great fo the same actor to play both roles? Imagine the acting tour-de-force it'd be for Bale to go up against HIMSELF in the two roles? And he's crazy enough to do it too. Obviously never would've happened, but I'd love to see that.
-
This would be the best Nolan Universe bad guy. Absolutely insane and terrifying, I remember being scared of him as a kid. This line from Wikipedia sums it all up "From then on, he dedicated himself to "liberating" others from their pointless existence (Zsasz often refers to victims as "zombies"). He usually preys on young women, but has no qualms over whom he murders. He slits his victims' throats and leaves them in lifelike poses, adding a tally mark to himself each time."
-
Bane was pretty awesome too.
-
It's already been said in this very talkback but, just for you, here it is again: Zsasz was in Batman Begins. As such, it's highly unlikely he'll be in the 3rd film.
-
I'm hoping for Hush if it's a smaller focus film and Black Mask for a larger scope.
-
The Dark Knight designers had designs for Deathstroke, but the character was cut from the final script. There was even a Dark Knight action figure for Deathstroke. Maybe Deathstroke could be a bounty hunter to bring in the Batman? Then again, could be Deadshot, or HUSH.
-
...Hardy is a better Manbat.
-
Find some guys who are still insistent that the Joker MUST be in the third film.

"Tom Hardy is not going to be another looney"
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
are you sure about that? did you see Bronson? I think whoever he plays, Nolan will want an eccentric, powerful personality to capitalize on Hardy's talents and to try and compete a little bit with Ledger.
-
Is there a new love interest like Catwoman? Also what other legit info have you posted on here? Thanks
-
Nolan needs to finish his trilogy then you have a perfect Batman year one. An old Robin would completely ruin it....again. I can't see Nolan doing such a good job with everything up to this point then completely blowing the family father son dynamic. I'm the biggest Nolan fan there is but I couldn't support this movie at all if they go that direction. They need to spin off a Robin franchise and model it like Harry Potter. Do all the crazy weird stuff with Batman there and keep the main Batman movies in the early years using the Nolan model.
-
always liked that villain for some reason. don't know what reason, but maybe cuz when i watched the series I was in my vincent price phase.
-
Looks kittenish
-
How about Peter Sarsgaard? Dead pan eyes and a wiley acting personality. He would be great. But Nolan already said no Joker.
-
my joker pick.
-
Literally had me bawling in tears laughing so hard reading your shitstorm post out loud to my brother. Oh my god.
-
I'm a jew. Jamie Lee Curtis would recommend a yogurt called activia.

...makes everything better. I fully support him appearing in the next Batman film, in ANY capacity.
-
Have to agree with that, popcorn. Might be looking at the new Dicaprio. Not apologizing btw, say what you want about Leo but I'm always in line at his films, and hardly ever disappointed. Anyway, Joseph is great.

I want to see Batman Fight Bronson.
-
GORDON:"you ready to be batman again?" BATMAN:"YES" GORDON:"GOOD CAUSE THE JOKER'S ESCAPED!" (cut to credits)
-
He'd make Daniel Craig look like Woody Allen.
-
or Condiment King.
-
Why do people keep asking about Superman showing up? Nolan has given many interviews saying Batman and Superman exist in their own separate worlds. Geoff Johns repeated this at NYCC. No JLA. No World's Finest. Not even any cameos.<p> GOD NOLAN HAS SPOKEN! AS IT HAS BEEN SAID, SO IT SHALL BE DONE!
-
Me likey!
-
superman and joker will cameo and two face will return to fight batman, plus robin will appear at the end with chief o'hara.
-
Although I'd like to see Daniel Craig get a third film, ending with him retiring and handing the mantle on over to Tom Hardy. It would be a much smoother transition that way and would save us all the frustration of seeing yet another pointless reboot.
-
I would like to see the Joker in a straight-jacket in a padded cell. Some make-up and green hair dye remain because no one wants to get close enough to clean it off...hose washing only. The man to pay homage to Ledger's Joker while making it his own, is Joseph Gordon Levitt. </p> I declare this idea public domain!
-
AND NO JOKER CAMEOS, IF JOKER IS IN IT HE SHOULD BE A MAIN VILLAIN.....IF HE JUST CAMEOS PEOPLE WILL BE WAITING FOR HIM TO COME BACK ON SCREEN!

MAKE IT SO!!!!!

That's all I have.

Black Mask really seems to fit the BatNolanverse the best
by Prof. Pop-Cult
I just have this impression that the Nolans and Goyer want to bring to the screen another popular villain from the comics who has not been depicted yet in the prior Bat movies. That's what they did in Batman Begins, and for their last Bat movie, I bet they want to do this again.<p><p>But maybe they are going to compromise: perhaps, like in BB and TDK, there will be two villains. One will be a villain who has not been depicted before in any Batman movie, and the other will be Nolanized take on a popular villain already seen in the prior movies.<p><p>So my guesses are these: Black Mask is the main baddie. He would serve as the Gotham mob world's own "masked freak" who unites the various mob factions. This could force Batman out into the open.<p><p>Second: The Penguin. Yes, but in this Nolanized take on the character, he won't go by this moniker, but his real name (Oswald Cobblepot). He won't be physically deformed, except for a walking with a limp (due to a childhood disease). The Wayne and Cobblepot families could have a history of bad blood. Oswald will be a villain in the corporate board room, who is leading a hostile takeover of Wayne Industries. So, yes, this means this version of the Penguin could work well if played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.<p><p>I think there could be a third villain too: Talia. This movie needs a love interest, and Talia would fit in the Batnolanverse and help brings things full circle with the events from Batman Begins.
-
I get it Tom, you're a serious actor.
-
Another guess: Batman's next ride will simply be one of Bruce's sleek sports cars, which will have James Bondish hidden tech inside it.<p><p>But I do think we'll be treated to a second, bad-ass vehicle. It'll be another military concept vehicle from WayneTech: a fast-moving, small tank, complete with rocket cannons and maybe it even can launch a remote drone plane. This would be even more of an homage to the BatTank in The Dark Knight Returns than the Tumbler was.
-
The Nolan Batman movies are based in something that at least resembles reality. That's why Ledger's Joker was so brilliant. <p> The Riddler and the Penguin are characters that belong firmly on a comic book page.
-
Personally I've liked him ever since I saw him as Shinzon, but I've mostly seen hate for him with the exception of Bronson. Pretty cool to have people jump on the bandwagon when I've been a fan for a while.
-
Of the Batman rogues' gallery, I think we all know that a dark, serial-killer version of the Riddler is the best choice for Batman 3 (The Darker Knight? Darknight Detective?). I hope we all know that Depp is THE choice for the role. How perfect would he be, considering virtually EVERY other role he's done? I loved Hardy in Inception, and maybe the Nolan Bros. have something else in mind for him that'll be mind-bendingly good (pretty much no doubt about that!), but that's what I'd like to see
-
A colleague of mine who does script coverage work for the studios, including Warners, hasn't read the script (no one outside of Nolan's inner circle has) but a few development execs have of course. But he's heard that the next Bat vehicle is nicknamed "The Rambler." Sounds like an appropriate successor name to The Tumbler, no?<p><p>Also, even though the script/movie has no official title yet, he hears everybody involved is leaning toward "Batman Triumphant" (which is derived from one of the chapters from "The Dark Knight Returns": "The Dark Knight Triumphant". In fact, back when Schumacher was in charge, they were going to use "Batman Triumphant" as a title for a movie after "Batman & Robin" -- they were also going to use "Dark Knight"/"DarKnight").
-
Incidentally, the second chapter of the TDKR graphic novel, "The Dark Knight Triumphant," is the first appearance of the BatTank. We know that the Nolans and Goyer borrowed elements from the most popular Batman comic book limited series (e.g. "Year One," "The Long Halloween," among others) for "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". So maybe they are taking some elements from the second book in TDKR.
-
that the top four talkbacks are Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Alien. This is how AICN should be everyday.
-
Some dog for Ace the Bat-Hound!
-
WE WILL BE ON TOP. YOU ARE GOING DOWN..
-
You all know it to be true, Diox!
-
<p>He won't be The Riddler...in fact, if Edward Nigma is anything more than a minor distraction, it'll be disappointing. Despite the fanboi foaming, The RIddler isn't a very dynamic character and was NEVER a major villain in the comics until the live-action show of the 60s.</p> <p>In Nolan's universe, the Mob reign supreme...and so Hush and Black Mask (and to a lesser degree Deadshot) can all fit into that narrative.</p> <p>I just wish he'd have taken on a mean Harley Quinn tale instead</p>
-
Maybe
-
After seein Hardy's stunning performance in Bronson and then hearing he'd been cast in Inception I really hoped he would end up playing a villain Batman 3! and now it looks like he will!!! I reckon he'll be either The Riddler or Black Mask though I'd go with The Riddler. Man this is great news!
-
Well a different take on the Penguin, not your overweight short aristocrat. But instead a reasonably good looking self made rich guy, who also uses his resources in the crime world. A guy that is known as the Penguin as a result of the few people who have caught glimpses of him having seen him in a tuxedo. <p><br />The character would be interacting with Bruce and a contrast being that he is self made with Bruce being rich from his parent's wealth. <br />This Penguin secretly hiring a couple of people to track and take down Batman, i.e. Deadshot.<br />
-
Just think its maybe a bit early on the timeline in Batmans mythology... although Hardy would bring so much to either role without the Azrael or Knightfall sagas and if they fit into Gotham beginning to 'explode' or expand into the crime-circus we all understand it to be set for in the future.
-
I would find it hard to believe that Nolan will do any of the more fantasy villians at all... so that would likely mean - no Manbat, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Croc, Clayface, Bane etc. Many of whom I won't really miss. You still can do Penquin, Catwoman, Harley (I know she's not original canon), and maybe some more 'silly' villians.
-
I'm not discounting Joseph, but David would be far better. Wasn't Tom in "Rocknrolla" as that gay dude? (I don't think he is in real life, though...)
-
He's debonair like Bruce Wayne and can kick ass like the Dark Knight. Bale can go back to making indie movies.
-
Really??? The fucking guy has become a absolute borefest. Depp as Riddler is only something a idiot would suggest.
-
But then, ANYTHING is possible. <P>He could actually be NIGHTWING without a Robin history/origin, for all we know.
-
So after thinking (obsessing?) about this all night, I'm in for Black Mask. Hardy is the new mob boss that mocks/challenges Batman's theatricality by wearing a simple black sack over his face. Or he's Dick Grayson/Nightwing in the scenario that "The Greatest" suggested. Could see Nolan just skipping over Robin and going straight to a grown up Grayson as a whacked-out vigilante Nightwing. Or just portraying Robin more along the lines of his Robin Hood influence (green arrow-esque) and not as the Boy Wonder. I also like the suggestions of Harvey Bullock.

As long as it's a good movie, I don't give a shit who the bad guy is.
-
Riddler,Penquin,Joker,Black Mask,Deadshot, or the more fantasical likes of Mr Freeze, Man Bat, Clay Face, Killer Croc and so on. Why? because he's one of those rarified types of actors that have a versatility that enables them to bring real weight and power to almost any type of part. You know the type, Day Lewis, Oldman and now Hardy. This is a great day for fanboys everywhere! I cannot wait to hear just who it is he ends up playin, I know that deadline report didn't specify if it was even a villain but if Hardy is playing a major role in Nolan's last Batman movie I doubt it would be as Bullock or whoever else, has to be an established Bat rogue.

Most of you fucks haven't had enough sex with real women to qualify as heterosexual, anyway.
-
Superman.
-
yeah i like that one!
-
dont know if its been said yet lol!
-
Black Mask, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and a detective trying to track down Batman. Whether Hardy plays Black Mask or the detective I don't care.

KING TUT!
-
He did admit to being bi!
-
A merry bald man dressed in yellow and obsessed with egg related puns is a bit more plausible than a half penguim half man muttering criminal dwarf.
-
and Scarlett Johanson should be Catwoman. In a tight costume. so I can pause the DVD and spank it.
-
Tom Hardy rules - down the line it would be great to see him become a villian in the world of James Bond.... only keep him around for a few movies. A worthy opponent, kinda like Robert Shaw was for Sean Connery back in the day.
-
would actually be a good thing. Bane is an amazing villain, and Hardy has both the build and the charisma to pull it off. Remember, Bane is an extremely intelligent man, he breaks Batman down mentally before breaking him physically. Anyway, I think a Knightfall could end Nolan's trilogy well. Have Bane leave Batman in a wheelchair, and have Bruce Wayne defeat Bane. Have some new love interest give Bruce Wayne something other than fighting crime to live for. There. End of Batman, Bruce Wayne finally gets a life, albeit crippled.
-
Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Punch and Judy and Alley Babble will be his backup.
-
No doubt about it!!! He would be ideal for that role.
-
IM FUCKING THERE WITH YOU!!! LOL I'D SEE THAT SHIT TWICE AT IMAX TOO.
-
The plot you mention as being the real deal (but I am going to assume that you made up yourself) would make for a decent movie, just not a decent Batman movie. It completely takes to focus off of Batman and puts it onto Robin. There's no way Nolan would do that with what has been stated as the end of his Batman story. Whatever happens in part 3, nothing is going to upstage Bruce/Batman and his journey. Everything in terms of plot and villains will dovetail into that journey our hero is on.
-
we have the Bat Tank, we'll have Tom playing the Mutant Leader, but, expand it so after the Nuclear detonation he ends up fighting a super-charged government Mutant Leader, leading to Bats death and the ML becoming Nolan's version of Superman.
-
because last time i checked the focus was on Joker, not Batman.hell even Dent had more screentime than Batman who was there only for the action scenes.
-
...When batman rumors surface? I'm just scrolling through all the comments looking for his SN, because he's the only person here who at least pretends to know what the hell is going on. You all know the guy I'm talking about. AICN HOF
-
I see what you did there.
-
So I take it no Catwoman/Selina Kyle then?
-
that they pull out another badass viral marketing campaign like they did for TDK. As a huge fan had alot of fun with the games and different reveals like slowly pixelating the jokers face, the harvey dent election and all the joker stuff really. The best executed and most exiting marketing for a movie ever.
-
No, I don't mean like TDK. And I'm not talking about screen time at all. Though I do feel like I am talking to a wall. There's no way anything like what The Greatest is describing is going to happen.

And the universe collapses

In the draft I read, Batman is very much the focus. My quick overview focused on Robin because that was the part that was most apparent to me and it fit nicely with the Wayne journey. And in the draft I read there was no Selina Kyle.

"Fuck you first posters" You are now my new hero of AICN. Thank you sir, for sharing my thoughts.
-
totalfilm.com had a nice breakdown of possible roles. how bout some thought like that here? http://www.totalfilm.com/features/11-batman-villains-for-tom-hardy

The love interest will also be the villian...either avenging her father's death or working on his resurrection..althought I'm not convinced Liam Neeson even died in the first one. Dr. Hugo Strange will be hired to track down the batman, and most likely being manipulated by Al Ghoul/league of shadows...we'll probably see one more 3rd tier villian as well. For this, they will eitehr bring back Scarecrow or...Hugo will introduce BANE to help hunt down batman. This makes the most sense, and I assure you...this is what will happen. Catwoman would suck, and there's no natural way to introduce her.
