More on Trek.

Well, a source who obviously can't be revealed was kind enough to send this in. Is it kosher? Only time will tell. Personally, I think a Trek show focusing on Star Fleet Intelligence could rock the house bigtime. So, here's another rumour to add to the pile:

"I bet you'd like to know what the subject of the next Trek series is, right? Well, I know it. I work for Paramount (I can't tell you where, obviously, because I'd like to keep my job! Bills to pay, afterall...) and I happened to walk into Brannon Braga's office as he and Rick Berman were discussing THE NEXT SERIES. They immediately stopped as I entered but I heard enough... I've tried to keep it to myself, but being a life-long fan of Trek, I can't keep it contained any longer. All you Trek fans out there deserve to know the basic premise --- the show revolves around a group of undercover operatives working for Starfleet intelligence! That's the most I'll reveal for now... in the meantime, I'll keep you posted as information becomes available!"

Many thanks for the info...readers? What do your illnesses tell you?

    I doubt this is legit,

    by rich_h

if only because the source gave more than enough situational detail to let Messrs. Brennan & Braga pinpoint the "leak" -- how many (presumed) flunkies interrupted them during new-series discussions the past few days!? Bye bye job. The source either made it all up or is bloody reckless/clueless. That being said, yeah, it is a pretty cool concept, and enough of a departure to perhaps freshen up that way-stale franchise.

    If they have to...

Well, if they have to do a new Trek series rather than resting the franchise for a few years, this would seem like as ggod an idea as any. Stage it in the Trek universe and get involved of the politics and social structure of the Federation. They would't be a nice space battle every week though - and perhaps we could have a lessening of the preachy, moral aspect to the stories. Are the die-hard trekkers ready for that? Hey, maybe even a story arc that is intricatley planned, not bolted on respectively... no a series like that would never get enough funding and always be on the verge of cancellation wouldn't it? So, what do we reckon it might be called 'Star Trek - Undercover"? "Star Trek PI"? Still... it's probably all bollocks anyway.

    new trek

If I recall correctly from a late night channel flipping high, there is a precedent for a secret Star Fleet agency. Bashir was a suspected spy and then a prospective member. If done right, a show with this theme could be interesting. But then, it seems to go against all that ST has tried to instill in us over the years. Oh well.
