Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some genuinely cool news. THR's Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Tomas Alfredsom, director of one of my favorite genre movies of the last 10 years (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) is helming an English language flick for Warner Bros called LARKLIGHT, based on a novel of the same name by Philip Reeve. The conceit of the movie is that mankind discovered the ability to navigate outer space in the time of Isaac Newton and the story focuses on a young brother and sister that team up to stop crazy steampunk space pirates from destroying the Earth. Alfredson's the real deal. Anybody who saw the original final pool sequence on LTROI can attest to his eye for theatrical visual flair. If the material's there (Eastern Promises' Steve Knight is currently rewriting the script) I think this could stand a chance of being a great family flick.
