Updated! Zack Snyder To Direct The Re-Rebirth Of SUPERMAN! Villain To Be General Zod!
Beaks here...
Update 4:37 PM PT: Geoff Boucher of the LA Times' "Hero Complex" blog gets the first comment from Snyder. Nothing revelatory, but this is quote is fairly interesting...
“I think he is viable, yes,” Snyder said. “He endures. We all want to know, ‘How will he come to us now?’ He is the biggest and the baddest of them all. The greatest of them all, right? We all want to know how the next chapter takes shape. I want to know how it will take shape.”
Update 4:03 PM PT: This just in from The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit: Superman's villain in THE MAN OF STEEL will be General Zod!
Deadline's Mike Fleming has the scoop! As probably should've been expected, Warner Bros. has brought together its two geek-friendly visionaries - Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder - to reinvent what should be the studio's most valuable franchise after the HARRY POTTER series concludes. It's hard not to get giddy at the thought of a Snyder-directed, Nolan-produced SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL. The screenplay is being written by David Goyer, and it's expected the film will be completed in time to clean up during the 2012 holiday season.
Looking over the directors who were allegedly in the running, it appears this gig was Snyder's to either lose or turn down. Though I would've been interested in seeing what Duncan Jones, Darren Aronofsky or Matt Reeves might've done with the character, the studio needed a filmmaker both comfortable with working on a large scale under crushing expectations, and capable of delivering tentpole production value. That's why this was only ever going to go to Snyder or Tony Scott - with Jonathan Liebesman lurking as a dark horse (provided BATTLE: LOS ANGELES lives up to the Comic Con hype).
Now the big question: does this mean THE MAN OF STEEL's tone is going to be darker than, say, Supes getting hammered and straightening the Leaning Tower of Pisa? I hope not. Though Snyder and Nolan clearly share a pessimistic view of human nature, Superman should - for now, at least - appeal to our better angels. This appeared to be the direction in which Goyer was headed when he took on the scripting chores - and I assume it still is. It's just very easy to see Snyder and Nolan working each other into a nihilistic frenzy. Maybe that's the Superman we deserve today.
What do you guys and gals want to see out of a Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced, David Goyer-scripted Superman?
“I think he is viable, yes,” Snyder said. “He endures. We all want to know, ‘How will he come to us now?’ He is the biggest and the baddest of them all. The greatest of them all, right? We all want to know how the next chapter takes shape. I want to know how it will take shape.”Update 4:03 PM PT: This just in from The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit: Superman's villain in THE MAN OF STEEL will be General Zod!

But unless the script is absolutely shit hot this will be pretty mediocre stuff shot in slow-mo.
-
so it'll look great but have soulless shitty acting. great. who directs the next reboot after this one sucks dick?
-
...Norman Wisdom has died. Legend.
-
Now there was a comedy genius..
-
I think Zack can pull this off, especially under Nolan's guidance. <p> BUT PLEASE NO SLOW-MO!
-
Snyder hasn't put one convincing emotional moment on film yet.
-
He truly was a great man
-
This is most definately cool news
-
I for one LOVED Watchmen (book and movie) so I have no beef with letting Zack take the reins. Ultimately, in Nolan I trust.
-
I think he'd be a good choice.
-
He's too stylised, I guess that's a good thing thou as Superman needs a new look, he doesn't lend himself to different transition as easily as Batman thou so this'll be interesting..
-
"Mr Grimsdale!!!!" Comedy hero.
-
Maybe we'll see some fucking action for once.
-
is in Sucker Punch just saying..
-
Snyder is a terrible filmmaker. period.
-
Snyder makes films that look nice but that's about it. They are hollow, lifeless husks with no heart and Superman is all about heart. <p> Heck, even Watchmen, a film that went shot for shot with the comic at times, lacked any real heart to it.
-
Nolan's a retard. Good choice man.
-
Are you fucking kidding me?! "Visionary" director Zack Snyder, my ass. As a HUGE Superman fan, I say: BOOOOOO!
-
I'd rather have had Tony Scott. Honestly, I don't think Snyder's made a single good film. A few nice scenes, sure, but a whole narrative... <p> And I had such high hopes after Nolan's involvement. I hope I'm proven wrong.
-
I bet Singer is laughing his ass off. Warner Brothers have been worrying about how to improve on Singer's film, and they have all but guaranteed that the next film is going to be a step down from Superman Returns.
-
No crystal Fortress of Solitude, though.
-
Great news! this superman will truly be a feast for the eyes. 300, watchmen and Dawn of the Dead are all top notch, can't wait to see what awesomeness Snyder puts forth. if Nolan believes in him, the rest of the naysayers are instantly TRUMPED.

I aprove.
by OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW
I'm a fan of Snyder. Looking forward to it.
-
Mathew Bomet would do pretty well. Fuck all this "Hamm" talk.
-
Why recast? He was the perfect Superman. Henry Caville, DJ Fontana, Matthew Boomer, Jared Padalecki, and the other wannabee Superman don't hold a candle to Routh. The is nothing wrong with having him return to the role.
-
Correction
-
nolan is fine, but man can his movies drrraaaaaaaaaaag........
-
Nolan's presence still leads me to believe that this will suck
-
About f'in time they get a real action director! I'm so stoked!!!
-
Supposedly David Goyer offhandedly remarked the idea to Chris Nolan who thought it was unlike anything previously done with Supes. Has anyone heard any rumors as to what this "fresh take" is? Any guesses?
-
All that gold to be dug in villains and Lex always gets pulled to the top of the well! Bring in Doomsday / Darkseid / even Brainiac for some serious action please!! (A Synder Brainiac? I like the sound of that!!)
-
STARGATE UNIVERSE IS AWESOME!!!
-
Snyder?!
-
I think this is a good choice. Snyder is heavily influenced by the Wachowski Bros. and Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions have the best superhero, Superman-type aerial battles ever. In fact, the Wachowski Bros. would have been a great choice as well.
-
this is a Spielberg job people
-
whoever that is
-
will be back never. he's got about the same chance as Reeve, well slightly less actually. it's not his fault, he was instructed to mimic the master. but that's all out the window (thankfully).
-
Not Superman. Shave that head and let him play Lex.
-
...he should play Roland in Ron Howard's "Dark Tower" movies. Routh should stay in the "where are they now file". Get a new guy for Superman and make him not such a pussy as Routh was. And if anyone says "Gerard Butler" they are dumber than shit.
-
I'm one of the few who wouldn't mind giving Singer another shot - his spiritual take on the material was flawed, but inspired. Snyder's style seems much better suited for Supes, tho.
-
Watchmen was pretty good.
-
for clark and lois
-
lets hope not.
-
metropolis is becoming more and more crime ridden. Kal el comes to earth and is raised my jonathon and martha kent. But because this is being produced by christopher nolan. things will be dark in smallville and Clark kent will be a brooding teen. He will be a cocky teen, great athlete, great student, gets the girls. then he gets to metropolis. where he remembers. the destruction of krypton, he goes underground where to become a vigilante, he takes down metropolis's crime gangs. general zod came to earth before kal el. and the film will mirror both characters. Gen Zod knows who kal el is and will at every turn try to unmask clark kent at every turn.
-
i cant believe Nolan thought of Synder as "talented". they guy has no substance.
-
Mentioning it on a Bourne talkback was not wise. All I got was one reply. "Who?"<p> RIP
-
Yeah, great battles, but absolutely no narrative to be caught up in. Snyder is a stylist, not a dramatist.
-
on what percentage of this film in in slo-mo? My money is on "too much".
-
You know you want it. just kidding, of course. There WERE no black folks on Krypton.

Problem with Superman Returns, all the contradictions
by thatswhatshesaid
-If superman gets his power from the yellow sun, how the hell did he take a space trip to another galaxy. -If some guy can shoot a bullet in his freakin eyeball and it bounce off, why does he need to duck when chasing after a plane and the wing flies toward him. -Why would he turn into superman by flying up an elevator shaft blowing a hole in the roof, when he could simply go outside and why the hell did no one figure out theres a big hole in the elevator.
-
I didnt hate Watchmen, but I didnt love it either.
-
...that is all.
-
'is IN slo-mo'.
-
Everyone bitched about his collaboration with Goyer for Batman, but that didn't turn out too badly did it? Nolan knows Snyder can direct action, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ghost directed the actors (which is definitely Snyder's biggest weakness). Its gonna be good everyone, just calm the fuck down.
-
Please please please please please.
-
Chris Nolan has great taste. He knows how to make movies work, and his films have been very diverse so he can adapt to this. I think the intellectual Nolan mixed with the hyper stylised Snyder can make something unique. Also, I thought Watchmen was great; i can see this really working
-
But with a reasonable script, and Nolan producing, he seems like a pretty logical choice. The superhero genre on screen is not insignificantly substantiated by design, in the visual, the sensory. I haven't been particularly moved by the stories he's told, so far, he seems too beholden to Cambellian cliches and cheesy K3WL!!1isms, but if there's a place to render those as sincerely as possible it's with the iconography of the Man of Steel.<br /> <br /> I wouldn't have minded a more textured, crafted pitch at it, aDunan Jones, or Aranofsky, but it's a compromise I'm curious enough to endorse. <br /> <br /> And Routh would be welcome to come back, also, that's one bandwagon I can sign on for.
-
Though Zemekis’s name had me excited for a bit there. Wow, Snyder. Can’t wait, here we go again TBer’s! Good times ahead. Lets hope they get the damn costume right this time, because I HATED the one in Singer’s. But there is a little part in me that would like them to bring back Routh, he did a great job, he’ll do even better with a director like Snyder.
-
Nolan and Synder dont mix. too different people

"I wouldn't be surprised if he ghost directed the actors"
by The_Motorcycle_Boy
I wish! Nolan will be making the new Batman at that time; he'll surely be too busy. In fact, I hope his involvement with this film doesn't affect the quality of the new Batman film. Nolan has always concentrated on one film at a time until now.
-
solid choice. he's the only director out of the bunch that can make me excited about seeing a revitalized Superman. should be way different than the other movies which is what it needs. he's going to need to step up his game in the writing and drama department though to really knock this out of the park. good luck, I'm jealous, this was my dream job.
-
this guy Synder is just style!
-
Come on movie Gods! Make it so!!
-
Persoanlly, I think this is good news. I agree he'll have to restrain himself from going crazy with the slo-mo, but he's got a great eye. I think it's a good choice.
-
You mean other people's visions, right?
-
Snyder is one of the greatest visual directors out there. I love "Superman Returns", but now, I really want to see this new take on the iconic character.
-
He'll probably make it Watchmen style, mixing formats, so it might have some cool camera angles and direction. Any of the directors in line for this film could take it in a unique direction. They should give it to a different director each sequel.
-
Snyder himself has admitted that he doesn't get Superman, that he doesn't know how to make it work. Nolan has similar things in the past, saying he doesn't know how to make it work. Then you have Goyer, who's writing this thing, who believe there needs to be some "twist on the legend" to make it work. <p> That's three guys, the director, the producer and the writer - who either don't know how to make Superman work or feel they need to change Superman to make it work. Do you know what this reminds me of? Tim Burton, Nic Cage and Jon Peters. Yeah, Superman Lives. <p> Or JJ Abrams, Jon Peters and McG (later Ratner)...you can't forget that one on this site - Superman Flyby. <p> We've been through this. It got so bad that Warners settled on a film that continued the Reeve films and gave Superman a son. I liked that film but it wasn't what the world was waiting for. <p> Now we have a situation we had for a decade where the people in charge feel they need to make big changes or don't really know how to make it work. <p> Then you have Snyder himself who is all about style over substance. Frankly that choice surprises me and I get the feeling that the choice was made by Warner Brothers and not Nolan. I think it should have been Jones. He may not have the blockbuster experience but at least his Superman film would have had heart.
-
Man, this is schadenfreude.

What does Superman have to do with visual style??//?
by DioxholsterReturns
we need a storyteller not a visual teller.
-
Seriously, get a real fuckin villain for this shit not another bald old man with a rock!
-
Just for variety's sake on the Superman franchise. If we create the notion that Superman is a mythos with room for more than one vision, it will help solidify the idea that we don't need to tell yet another origin story. <BR><BR> Snyder will do fine. Why not have some variation?
-
Can we get yet another Superman film where Lex Luther is trying to make a killing in real estate by some nefarious plot where millions of people will die?
-
Here on AICN everyone needs to hate something, this time is Nolan and Snyder.
-
Oct. 4, 2010, 5:39 p.m. CST
fuck this shit. this will be shit movie dont fool yourselves
by DioxholsterReturns
im not gonna repeat myself but we all know what synder is capable off.
-
But for the love of GOD, let's have an actor over 30 for Superman. If it's some Pattinson-type boy/man I'm out.
-
Snyder hasn't exactly been lighting up the box office after 300. That slow-mo owl movie probably won't even make up its costs.
-
Really who cares for seeing some capped dude fly in style? i dont give a shit. i want a Superman told in a Spielberg way.
-
they really need to give him a rest for a long while. Hopefully Nolan will make him do like he did in the Batman movies and start with some second teir villians and save Luthor/Joker for the 2nd or 3rd movie.
-
and rightfully so.
-
Loved 300 and Watchmen
-
hes important
-
...sure. Snyder has a flair for comic book stuff.
-
I don't think anybody is disputing that. The film will have a very stylized look (albeit with dead CGI backgrounds) but I think there are questions about how much weight the story will have and whether we'll actually care about the characters. <p> I'm sure it will look cool seeing Superman punch someone through a CGI building while the speed changes and rock music plays - but will it have an emotional impact? Will I care enough to want Superman to win that fight? If Snyder's last three films (I've not seen SWAT) are any indication the answer is, sadly, no.
-

Superman 3D Visual Porn ??? thats why they picked Synder!
by DioxholsterReturns
not gonna watch.
-
But this film has just gone from one of my most anticipated to being a film I'll go and see.
-
I'm sorry, but Snyder isn't even that talented with visuals. Look at that humpbacked guy in 300. His makeup was laughable. Every one of his films looks like a music video, and there are a million others out there who could easily do what Snyder does.
-
I actually think that's a GOOD thing. Singer "got" Superman and look what we got - a love letter to the the Chris Reeves films that was all over the shop. Nolan, Snyder and Goyer are not Superman nuts and that will help them enormously. They'll go into this with a cool detachment to the material, and they could come up with something we've never seen before.
-
They're still going to call it The Man of Steel right? Because that is the perfect title.
-
How much power Christopher Nolan wields in Hollywood.
-
Jimmy Olsen
-
Let us not forget all your bitching and moaning when Nolan chose Ledger to done the Clown Prince of Gotham, who incidentally exceeded expectations unreachably higher than the levels of solvent emission in all your softheads.
-
Why did anyone ever care about Superman? Does he appeal to some jingoistic "USA First" strain that runs deep in this country? I never understood the appeal until Richard Donner made his film. So why try to apply paddles in a half-assed attempt to defib the legend back to life? You want Superman? Watch the movie. You want more Superman? Good luck with that.

SNYDER IS A GREAT CHOICE SUPERMAN NEED ACTION AND VISUAL STYLE!
by SuperWelling
AND SNYDERS GOT IT TOM WELLING FOR SUPERMAN!
-
It's Snyder and Stargate sucks donkey balls. Can you do the decent thing, say something against the rules and get yourself banned please? Thanks.
-
If he did why was the character presented as a morally dubious guy who used his powers to spy on a woman he had a one-night stand with, and try to steal her away from her (more heroic fiance)? Why did he leave Earth because some scientists *thought* that they saw Krypton still intact? Singer certainly didn't understand the character from my point of view. Nor did he get Lex or Lois.
-
Alot of people said the same for The Joker when Batman Begins was announced.. Looks like the Spidey reboot will get Venom too.. Variety I guess!
-
Superman won't fly with these clowns in charge. There is little to recommend Snyder for this project. SWAT? Awful. 300? Stylized and gimmicky- inappropriate for Superman. Watchmen? Dark and stylized, inappropriate for Superman. Nolan? Dark and brooding, inappropriate for Superman.
-
can fly in slow motion

Superman is too complex for Synder the visual entertainer
by DioxholsterReturns
it needs an expert in human emotion. they all got Synder coz he did that Blue cock guy and they want the same blue cock as Superman
-
THIS IS SMALLVILLE!!!
-
Synder would make a kick ass visual-Superman... Duncan would have brought some real heart to it. Snyder has worked with WB forever and will probably make them more money with 'his' vision. Move on. If Snyder gets a good fast paced story then we're in for a treat. I'm on the side of 'show me something Superman hasn't done'. I'd love to see his teenage son throw him around the solar system in a rebelious rage! I mean, the kid's first act of superism was murdering a thug. Could be a awesome storyline there.

Lex Luther is the defacto Metropolis villain not an outcome
by DioxholsterReturns
he cant show up all of a sudden in a sequel
-
Both have been done to death, lets have braniac, doomsday or metallo, some real action for a change...
-
First off, The Director's Cut of Watchmen is a masterpiece. You dopes who want to keep putting Snyder in the "style over substance" box should check it out 1st. The theatrical cut was rushed by the studio. Second, I think the overall problem with Superman is that people keep worrying about making him "relevant for today's audience" instead of just telling a great a Superman story. If they concentrate on that 1st and foremost(like Donner did) then they'll be fine. And YES, Superman does deserve to be a visual spectacle. He's the 1st and the greatest superhero of all time. Audiences should be wowed by the action sequences. It should primarily be a popcorn film. I understand the risk of this being a misfire since Nolan and company have stated that they doesn't 'get' Superman but hopefully a Tom DeSanto type will come along and give them the crib notes. It's not rocket science.
-
we need background on how the character thinks. he is still very alien to us.
-
Now keep Routh but hire Zoe Daschanel as Lois.

-
he was meant for it.
-
THIS IS AWESOME FUCKING NEWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. PERFECT FOR SNYDER.
-
that is complex. Synder just cant handle this
-
It's rumored Superman is 25 in this one. <p>Hammer is 25 next year. <p>He looks like Superman without looking like Reeve. <p>He's hot off the social network. <p>Right height and already more than halfway towards the right build.
-
they got this right, finally. maybe we will see some action, instead of supes getting his ass kicked by luthor.
-
He has done it for what 15 years now? And bring on the man who would be Superman Tom Welling!
-
Snyder can deliver the visuals... I believe that. But can he bring the heart needed for a truly great Superman film? I sure as hell hope so. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed Snyder's work, but he's done a zombie film, a film about Spartan warriors, and a dystopian comic book tour de force (the comic, not the film...although I did like the film), and even though I feel that he did them all justice in their own way (and in his distinctive style), Superman is a completely different animal. So while I certainly won't take this as bad news, I do see it as a chance for Snyder to broaden his horizons and deliver all the blistering action he's known for, as well as the feeling hope that a film like this needs to bring with it.
-
Im ok with this as long as he keeps the slofast cranking to a minimum - or better yet, doesnt use it at all.
-
A Nolan-approved script with Snyder's fantastic visual style? Awesome. Oh, and Jude Law for General Zod.
-
I mean what the fuck? How can so many great directors get passed over for this moron on great comic progects as 300, Watchmen and Superman?
-
"...feeling OF hope..." me tpye bad.
-
Why Snyder?!!! Duncan Jones would've been awesome!! Snyder?! AW! Shit!

by DioxholsterReturns
then his indignation slowely makes him want to be alien.
-
To see the genius result or the epic failure (I'm leaning toward genius result). <p> Either way, this should be quite a (welcome) departure from the last snoozer.
-
why not do it right the first time!!!!!! Synder is so wrong for this, comon Nolan you dont want him either so why did you allow this?
-
How about getting a real man to play Superman, someone over 35 who looks like he could be a dock worker or a truck driver, who could lift something for real, not some sappy boy who had to work out and take steroids to get the part. A little grey in the temples, like Alex Ross' Kingdom Come Superman.
-
co-directing. Snyder taking of the visuals and action and Jones doing everything else.
-
that is all.

There is no "perfect" choice with this stupid property.
by Mr. Nice Gaius
I really wish the whole Superman thing would just go away. It's a tried and silly story; one that just gets increasingly tiresome with each attempt.<P>In all seriousness, comic book movies are already going stale and all these origin-tales and "reboots" are starting to take their toll on each subsequent franchise.<P>Chris Nolan may be a great idea-man and Zack Snyder may be able to duplicate other people's artistic vision on film, but I find nothing compelling about the character of Superman whatsoever. In fact, I find him to be equivalent to cinematic Kryptonite.<P>Anyway, I hope everyone is ready for another hyper-stylized CGI-fest.
-
ok so zack snyder is gonna direct a superman movie produced by chirs nolan, and written by who? based on a story by david s. goyer, that's nice to know but is he gonna have a real villain for superman or is it just gonna be lex luthor with another real estate scheme. when they start talking about the story i may get a little excited or absolutely hate it
-
As much as I dig the first two Superman flicks (and Returns...) , I'm more than willing to see a full on action-based Supes flick. Heck... I'm tired of thin, pretty Supermen. Give me a Superman that LOOKS like he can kick ass, for crying out loud. Just because we all associate the Donner Superman era with what Superman is "supposed" to be, it doesn't mean that is the only way to do it.
-
a)It's SNYDER you moron<P> b)Shut UP about Spielberg, Suckgate and blue cocks<P> c)Just go away :)
-
I'm assuming yes

Nolan's Craftsmanship + Snyder's Visuals = WIN
by CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS
This is going to be great!
-
I loved Singer's Superman and never understood all the hate behind it. But since Superman is being taken into a new direction under the guidance of Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder is an ideal choice and the best in my opinion. I didn't even know that Zack Snyder was up for consideration so before this broke out, I was hoping Darren Aronofsky would direct. But now he can go and make another masterpiece while Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan make a potentially epic collaboration.
-
Darkseid would have been great too but I'm happy with Zod. Perhaps the story can even be linked to a Darkseid sequel?
-
I thought he did pretty well the first time around all things considered. It wasn't his fault they made Superman so wimpy and lame. Plus, it's been about five years. He's only improved as an actor since then.
-
happy now?
-
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, General Zod will be the villain in THE MAN OF STEEL. Awesome.

by DioxholsterReturns
no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
-
I agree. Superman is pretty dull. I think they should do it as a period piece with Supes throwing gangsters out of windows and such. I love the style of the old Fleischer toons.
-
In my own opinion. 1. Watchmen, in DVD sales, Foreign ticket sales, and domestic gross made its money back and a little profit. Though I'm not sure how it did on DVD, between here and the other world markets, it made a profit.<p>2. He did Watchmen as much justice as would be possible without input from the writer of the original material, I think. Also, let's look at 300.<p>3. 65 mil budget -- 210 million returned in profit domestic, plus whatever the hell the rest of the world forked over to WB (even with IMAX sales) the dude has an impressive resume.<p>4.Dawn of the Dead -- Remix. Uh, again, the guy gets a budget, and turns a profit.<p>And whatever the hell you guys think here, I believe, if you add Superman's name recognition on TOP of the fact the guy knows how to direct a profitable, crowd-pleasing flick AND his actual fandom of comics, the guy IS the right choice... in the eyes of those with the money to make a Superman movie that makes money.<p>Now, if people here can't get that through their heads, that simple mantra: Money talks, bullshit walks. Then you're going to wonder why LOTS of things happen that you disagree with.<p>Chris Nolan tempering the ADD of Snyder? Hell, on paper, that take on Superman could be very profitable indeed.
-
You made my melon farmin' day. ^^
-
Snyder is an amazing director, his visual style is simply amazing. we're not gonna get a shaky cam quick cut action scenes, Snyder loves us to take it all in. With nolan in charge you know the script is going to be tight. This news in erection inducing!
-
But it's still has that Znyder hack at the helm
-
Okay, my interest just went up...
-
...for such a grand undertaking. I'm alright with this. However, ZOD? Superman has tons better villains than Zod. But I guess they want a sense of realism. I'm hoping there's more to this. Nolan is hit or miss. But at least visually, Snyder is spot on.
-
They've gone straight for the jugular. Wise choice. I don't think starting off with a minor villain ala Batman Begins would have worked. Someone get Ed Norton on the phone pronto. So can we assume that Luther will be playing no part at all? I'm going to sleep now. Wake me up when its 2012 - Bat 3, MOS and Hobbit = pure geekasm year.

Pray tell me which story is more important and primal than Superman?

Screw you whiny bitches who want to complain about everything. Remember, at one point Tim Burton was on board to direct this with Nic Cage as Superman. We also had the horrible Kevin Smith script – anybody who is complaining about this hasn’t done much reading about Superman’s troubles on the big screen. As bad as Singer’s Superman was (and I honestly don’t think it was too bad, it’s just that nothing really happened) it could have been a lot worse. I’m actually quite excited by this news, while Watchmen had no squid, it was still impressive as Hell. Besides, from an homage standpoint, you know at some point Zod is going to ask somebody to kneel – Terrance Stamp is going to be hard to out-Zod, especially to those of us who saw Superman II at a young age – it doesn’t hold up nearly as well as the original, but superman using his freeze breath and duking it out with super-powered bad guys back in the day kicked ass! So, any more complaining and I will use my “great wall of China” vision on you! (As shown in Superman IV).
-
well, shit it's Transformers II. It's like porn in a way: you watch action sequence after action sequence and, sure, they look cool, but after a while they all start to bleed together and get boring. If 'surface' is all a film has then it doesn't really have anything (IMHO). And I agree that this does not need to be tied to Donner's vision in any way (although, I think it would be cool if they kept the old school score, or part of it). No reason for it not to be a new vision.
-
Not Zod!!!! SUPERMAN HAS SO MANY OTHER VILLAINS WORTHY OF A MOVIE. Why is it always Lex and Zod every the time!? Doomsday!?!?!? Darkseid?!?!?!?! Metallo & Lex teaming up!?!?!?! Anything but another god damn version of Zod! Ugh......
-
Zod? Not so much. Whatevs.
-
isnt that right beaks?
-
Whaddya mean? How many more times do you need to see the same thing?
-
He said so in a magazine.
-
and a shit, softcore sex scene. Just like his other films <P><P>Synder? Maybe. Dawn of the Dead is better than it has any right to be, parts of Watchmen are great, but 300 is one of the worst films I have ever seen. How people rate it I have no idea
-
it's got everything that makes Superman wonderful. Check it out before you say anything else stupid about Superman being played out.
-
ZZZZZzzzzz.....
-
Did you see some alternate version of Dark Knight where the citizens of Gotham blew each other up on the ferries? Nolan deals with dark themes and characters, but has a very optimistic view. As does Snyder.
-
Rather than landing in American Gothic, he lands in some horrible ghetto and is raised to be a master criminal, until he reaches adulthood, realizes his origin, and must choose between absolute tyranical domination of mankind and being, well, Superman
-
Again???
-
Better then that massive pile of DogShit they call Superman Returns, Man what a shitty Movie!!
-
Nolan better tell Snyder not to overuse the slow-mo.<p>Remember, BRIGHT RED, BLUE, AND YELLOW COLORS IN THE COSTUME! (NO PLASTIC S SYMBOL ON SUPERMAN'S CHEST!)<P>Last but not least, make sure Superman believes in TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY!!!!!!
-
Snyder lacks a light touch and a sense of humor, which I think Superman needs, at least in the Clark Kent / Lois Lane dynamic. I fear this will be more of the same tone as SR.
-
will likely make a more homoerotic film than a gay man did.
-
It's the greatest Superman story ever told. Snyder would rock it.
-
who knows martial arts. lol
-
going head to head? Holy fuck. December 2012 is going to be un-fuck-ing-believ-able.
-
As many times as it takes for them to get it right. And when they do get it right I want to see a new one in IMAX every two years until I'm dead. All right?
-
Can the film live up to expectations now?! If the film is about "Americana" (which Superman lend to) it needs to be a period film, set in the 50s.
-
I'm now excited about Superman. I haven't cared since I was a kid. Now they have given me a reason to give a fuck!! Zack "Watchmen" Snyder doing Superman. Prepare for the second greatest superhero movie of all time. After Watchmen.
-
at least Snyder is a good choice. Not sure abut the choice of villian though.
-
"Oh God" "Zod"
-
The guy is poison. Batman Begins is a bad script, and thats just a fact, anything good wrung from it is Nolan. Other than that hes done The Invisibles, Blade 3, and the terrible Unborn. The man is a hack of Kurtzman and Orci levels.
-
Expect that
-
Would be a great Clark Kent!
-
KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!!!!!!
-
I'm happy with the choice of Zack Snyder. Rather you're a fan of his films or not at-least he cares about the source material he's filming.
-
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
-
Okey-dokey. I wish you much joy and happiness with that.
-
a giant, unexplained, and pointless cellophane S that Superman throws?
-
hell Zod could be great. It all depends on who they cast. And is he the only villain or will we be getting another (as sometimes happens)?
-
MOVE ON! Grant Morrison layed out the next film in All Star Superman.
-
What happened to Braniac? How about using Mongul, Metallo, Parasite, or Darkseid instead!
-
EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Fuck everyone who complains that it's a different universe. Brandon was the right guy for Superman, period. Bring him back. Give him a real chance to play the Man of Steel.
-
no inner conflict here. and i bet Zod will try to recruit superman how typical.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKDFop0aqYQ
-
Zack gets a lot of haters, but I for one think he makes great films. Hopefully they cast the actor right.
-
WATCHMEN is an underrated film and he's certainly more fitting than Darren Aronofsky.
-
Jim Cavaziel for Superman.
-
He's way to old looking to play Superman.
-
There, now THAT's outta the way.
-
imo that and Hills Have Eyes are the only respectable horror remakes of the past decade, so that restores a little of my faith that this might possibly be good.
-
Snyder speaks to Geoff Boucher of the L.A. Times' "Hero Complex" blog.<br><br>No word yet on Ursa. Or Non (and whether or not he'll be caged).
-
I kneel for no man!<P>Well, except maybe Elvis...
-
or Michael Caine!
-
I liked him. Let him put his own spin on it, rather than make him beholden to Donner's vision. But we can lose the darker colors, okay?
-
Though it's not an out and out origin story, I think that the people of Earth should be polarized about Superman to give him an overarching quest to earn their respect rather than always being adored. The destruction that results from his battles has to be infuriating. Still, however, he must remain a hero of optimism despite the sting his feels at his adoptive home's disapproval.
-
Just please in the first 5 min. have him fight a big damn robot or a large monkey
-
WE WANT MORE COMIC BOOK VILLAINS LIKE BRANIAC BIZZARO & METALL FVCK ZOD!!!
-
about a Superman movie. <p> Fuckin' A.
-
Snydes????
-
thanks to Synder
-
Are you kidding?! The character's name is SuperMAN...not... SuperBOY.<P>How can you guys sweat 20+ year old WB Network nancy-boys when Hamm looks like a goddamn Alex Ross painting?
-
depending on of course who the villian is. Make Lex a part of the universe, mention him in passing or give him a cameo but for God sakes, don't make him the villian of this movie. And Tom Welling would make a better Supes than Routh. Just saying.
-
it's very possible. Though I pick Russell Crowe.
-
I'd be cool to Brandon Routh as Superman, although I'm not opposed to another. James Caviezel would rock as Superman.
-
I'm not crazy about you helming this Zack, but you'd win me over with giving Dwayne the role he was born to play.
-
of "It's hard not to get giddy at the thought of a Snyder-directed, Nolan-produced SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL." The only thing good about General Zod was Terence Stamp: "You are master of all you survey!" "And so I was yesterday... and the day before."
-
And watch why Nolan hired Zack for Superman. Zack gets flying. The flying is going to be fucking insane in his Superman. I hope he does at least 2 of them.
-

The only thing that would make this news even better is JOHN WIL
by Mike_D
-
Well, maybe not, but his "KNEEEELLL!!!" would be awesome.
-
Christopher Reeve played Superman at age 25, so I guess he's a superboy in your opinion.
-
every superhero flies nothing special jackass
-
Keep The John Williams Score. Daniel Craig for General Zod! Man, This is gonna be good!
-
As a big DC fan, I hate to say this. Marvel Studios takes chances while Warner Bros/DC Entertainment is run by a bunch of clueless people.
-
"300" cost 70 million to make and made 400 million. "Dawn of the Dead" cost 30 million, and made 100 million. "Watchmen" cost 130 million and made 250 million. He makes stylish, cost effective movies that bring in audiences. <P>All the hate is funny. Who should have done this? The guy that made the little seen "Moon"? So that his career can crumble before it even begins if he doesn't deliver? <P>Snyder may use a lot of slo-mo. But guess what, he directs action better than Nolan. And all you people seem to love the fuck out of him. With Snyder we are guaranteed well directed action. All he needs is a good Superman, and a Lois who is feisty and instantly likeable. Not someone like Bosworth who is ridiculously boring. <P>Good job WB. This is going to kill.

that Sucker Punch trailer looks really awesome
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
but I didn't really like Watchmen very much. It was o.k., nothing to write home about. Same with 300, visually superb but story wise not very enthralling. Zod doesn't sound great either. IGN ranks him #30 all time villain, btw: http://comics.ign.com/top-100-villains/30.html With Nolan's guidance this could still potentially be great, though. With a good story, and some way to make Zod more interesting, he basically has the same powers as Superman, right? they need to spice him up a bit.
-
It's already in the works. That's why smallville is ending, to allow Tom Welling to be Supes in the movies!
-
Superman Returns no matter who directs as long as Brandon "Plastic fuck doll" Routh is playing Supes.
-
....ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? THAT'S ALL YOU GOT??? WILL WE EVER MOVE THIS FRANCHISE FORWARD???

T-Minus 10 SECONDS BEFORE ASIMOVLIVES HEAD EXPPLODES
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
Asimov has finally met his match. R.I.P.
-
LOIS' BARE BUNS WILL TAKE THE CAKE!
-
Do not turn him into Batman who can fly. Superman is the opposite of Batman. Batman needs the shadows to exist, what criminals don't see is used against them. Superman doesn't hide, he thrives in the light. He has to defeat larger than life forces that go beyond Batman's capabilities. He handles threats that push the boundaries of the imagination. Those are the best Superman stories. No emo Supes, that's what these times deserve.
-
Crowe as a supervillain would rock. Gerard can be pretty damn imposing as well.
-
That's the movie I want to see. Supes punching clowns into red vapor.
-
As much as I think he deserves a shot as Superman, it'll never happen. Bringing him on would bring all the plots and character arcs - good and BAD - to the movie. In the series, they killed Lex off!! At least in the Routh movie, he's either stranded on some island, or back in prison, and is a viable villain at some point.
-
Yes, he was. Zod rest his soul.
-
Too many people judging what hasn't been made by what has. You really think Snyder will make Superman the same way he made 300 or Watchmen?
-
Are you kidding me? More Donner villains? When will they move forward? Why not Brainiac, Bizarro, or Darkseid? Why?
-
Snyder can do no wrong after hitting it out of the park with Watchmen. Sucker Punch looks great. I can't wait to see what he does with Supes.
-
Are making me nervous, but I'm glad Snyder got this. It's a good fit. I know people are tired of Luthor (although they have not done him justice in any of the movies. I would use him as a morally ambigous asset in this Zod picture, setting him up for later use.) I would recommend to Snyder and Goyer to watch the fuck out of 90's cartoon though. I don't think it's only the nostalgia tellin me that it was the perfect interpetation of all characters.
-
Fuck Zod and fuck Donner's embarassingly awful Lex Luthor. Fuck Donner's boring fucking Superman universe.
-
Or make JOHN KREESE BEGINS about Americas Greatest Hero! Vietnam Vet and Army Judo Champ. Introduce Terry Silver and Jonnie's Abuseful Father.$200m US (As per FRANZ SANCHEZ) budget with me directing
-
A giant robot would be ideal. A fight with Zod would also be cool.
-
Snyder & Nolan & Zod? I'm in.
-
I've officially lost all faith in DC/WB. Fuck them in their fucking asses, fucking mother-fuckers.
-
I don't want him for this movie, but just for the record (and this might sound a bit odd) I think he makes a great "Superman" and a piss poor Clark Kent. Seriously, the diatribes he goes on, the speeches he gives, the way he challenges other 'heroes' to be better (you know... by condescending to them? In speeches and diatribes?), all great 'Superman' stuff (ironic, since he's been playing Clark the majority of the time, and the other times we just get "Kal-El"). I just can't see him playing a convincing Clark (not necessarily Donner's bumbling Clark, but any version) that is far enough away from his 'Superman'.
-
his movie's look dated 2 month's after there released. Did Nolan choose him? What. the. fuck.
-
great, that's just what superman needs. Also everyone don't get excited because Nolan's name is on this...a producer credit doesn't mean this is going to be any good...spielberg was exec producer on TF2 so there ya go.
-
Both in their 20's and over 6'4. Padalecki has a strong relationship with WB since Supernatural is a WB produced show and he has done a few WB movies. Also when he was cast in Friday The 13th, they had to try and make him look smaller than Jason since he was just as tall as him. <P>Hammer was supposed to be in the JLA movie and is getting noticed in The Social Network... Either are better than Routh. That movie should be forgotten.

How can they have great news about Snyder and counter it with cr
by SuperWelling
ZOD FUCKING SUCKS and is Boring as hell put a real comic book villian like Braianiac or bizarro in this movie!!
-
Like the Snyder news, hate the Zod news. Fuck, did nobody learn anything from how shitty Superman Returns was? Why not some cool-ass, gigantor villian? Blech.
-
I'm sure the movie will be fine.
-
How about Darkseid? Or Mongul? Or Brainiac? Or Bizarro? Or Metallo? Or Doomsday? Fuck you, Goyer! You suck! You don't have a creative bone in your body, you fuckin' hack! Leave Donner's Superman alone already.
-
...the man was right behind Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd when it came to pratfalls. MR.GRIMSDALE!!! A legend.

Hey Snyder, no jagged, uninhabitable real estate this time
by SoylentMean
That bothered me the most about Superman Returns. Oh, and that they tried to make it a continuation of the Donner films.
-
So long as its not another rehash of Superman 2 or another rehash of his origin or a quasi-sequel/prequel to SR. I'm trusting Nolan's sensibilities here, and I absolutely have enjoyed all of Snyder's efforts. 300 and Watchmen are among my personal pleasures, and DOTD was excellent in its own way. As for the plot, maybe allude to Brainiac or Darkseid gaining contyrol of the Phantom Zone, breaking Zod out of the Phantom Zone with an army of exiled pissed-off aliens and Kryptonians to soften up the Earth for an upcoming invasion. Could be interesting. Gerard Butler for Zod would be spectacular.
-
Wasn't Jared in the running for Returns? Or one of Ratners/McG's attempt? I doubt he'd get it now though, it'd be a slap in the face to Welling and the Smallville fans.
-
This is the year 2010, and these production companies have the ability to make any CGI character they can imagine, and we get fuckin General Zod AGAIN? FUCK that. I'm no superman fan, but I know that there are plenty of cool villains... Braniac, Metallo, Darkseid, even fuckin Bizzaro would be way more interesting than Zod. Jesus Wept. <p> Leave it to fuckin Beaks to think that was awesome.
-
Why don't we just at some point in the movie want a Giant Robot Spider in it! Jon Peters sucks!!
-
And awesome song choices. Say what you want, the movie will at least be interesting as hell if they let the guy be himself (although hardly the Superman film we have in our geek heads). Snyder has some signature elements in his movies. That's more than other members of the homogenized mess of young directors can say. Very good choice.
-
he did a great job with a half shitty movie. superman returns was not his fuck-up. he did a solid job with it.
-
I dunno about him being in the running previously. But there aren't that many taller/young actors out there. Padalecki is 6'4. I never watched "Supernatural", but I know his fan base is pretty vocal online. And I've only seen him in "House of Wax" and "Friday the 13th". But everyone gets a chance to surprise with a good role. Look at Lively in "The Town". <P>As for "Smallville", I'm sure the fans will be salty is Welling isn't cast, but I don't think WB is going to put him up there. It would make "Smallville" a prequel to the movie and they did say it was a "Fresh Take". Also, Welling kinda let himself go lately. Not as in shape anymore. It's aged him and he is not even 35 yet.
-
"And speaking of Zod being used again... by Shermdawg Oct 4th, 2010 06:57:07 PM ....ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? THAT'S ALL YOU GOT??? WILL WE EVER MOVE THIS FRANCHISE FORWARD???" My sentiments EXCALY! there so many awesome superman villains like Brainac! Bizarro and METALLO! fvcking ZOD AGAIAN? FUCK NO i WONT STAND FOR THIS RETREAD CRAP!
-
I think Zack is a great film maker. I thought "Watchmen" and "Legends of the Guardians" were both wonderful movies, loved them a lot. I think WB's picked him because they clearly loved what he did with "Watchmen". Honestly, "Watchmen" did kind of feel like a Superman movie a little bit. Give Zack a chance. Zack will stay true to Superman, he won't make it similar to "300" or "Watchmen" at all. Zack would make a GREAT Superman movie, I totally believe in him.
-
Legends of the Guardians. Zack nailed the flying. Did he not?
-
That's for sure. One thing will be missing though...a soul. At least Nolan is there. There's still (some) hope.
-
...are pretty exhilarating. I think 78 SUPERMAN captured a nice sensation of flying for its time...it would be cool to see that brought into the present.<P> Those 3-D dragon flying scenes in AVATAR gave me tingles.<P> 3-D was made for flying.

deadlying theres no fvcking need to Create a New villain!
by SuperWelling
When the Ahole MORONS AT WB HAVE NEVER EVEN USED THE OLD VILLAIN SFROM THE COMICS! WTF WB!!!
-
in James Marsden, but nobody seemed to see it. But yeah, I'd take Padalecki as Cyke now.
-
He's not too old, the character could use a little maturity. If not him, then use Routh again, they already searched the damn planet back in '05.
-
I am totally excited that Snyder is doing this. So far, I don't think there been one good Superman flick, so hopefully this will break the curse.
-
Can we have Routh in the new suit (which grew on me over time and looks to be used on Smallville) as Supes, a non Zod villain (great character, but done before), character development, big action, and real life jeopardy? I'm willing to give Snyder whose films I've LIKED but not loved a chance. Nolan is super critical and a great storyteller who knows "reality-based" fiction. I know that going with Zod reduces the budget ten fold, but we've waited thirty years for a new baddie that can throw down with Superman. The John Williams theme and crystal fortress can stay too. lol
-
It'll only take them ten years for a working script. By then everyone attached to the project will have moved on. Warner's will by then feel that somehow we've forgotten Superman's origins and green light another boring as hell movie that will disappoint' and the box office and put it all back where we are now. Oh yeah and forgot any current actor playing him... they'll all be in their 60's before this ever gets off the drawing board. Easy solution?? At the end of "Smallville" make a movie with Welling as Supes battling any one of a million enemies, or maybe a million enemies, just so long one of them isn't Lex Luthor unless in the end it IS Lex (Michael Rosenbaum returning of course) who's been controlling everything from the shadows. See? And I don't get a dime for this brilliance!
-
love snyders films like watchmen and 300 so i know this will be fuckin awesome
-
he probably could still do it and have a hell of a lot more audience draw than anyone else would but i think i read that he really fucked himself up going for broke bodybuilding on 300.
-

Let's all forget X-Men until Disney gets the rights from Fox...
by Mr. Profit
Until then, any Fox superhero movie (unless it's directed by Cameron) will inevitably suck. Marsden WAS a good Cyclops and Singer got all hot for Wolverine. Funny how he phased Cyclops out, yet he was able to squeeze in scenes where Magneto was catty like an old queen and makes fun of Rogue's hair while Mystique looks on. Like 2 Supervillan "Mean Girls"... Gimme a break.
-
‍‍‍‍<br>...good...then Superman will fly in the shade.
-
he certainly has the general badass thing down.
-
Its time, children. Hans Zimmer can come up with something new.
-
in the title sequence. It's his thing. He covered a Zombie Apocalypse to Johnny Cash and generations of superheroes to Bob Dylan. The only question is: to what music will Supes be sent to earth/grow up/become Superman to?
-
are pissing themselves over this. This film doesn't even have a script yet! And yes Snyder is talented. He'll either fail or win, but at the very least, Superman gets some new creative talent that will hopefully get more right than what Superman Returns got wrong. And Superman Returns got a LOT wrong.
-
that is all
-
Welling was in great shape for the season ten premiere.
-
Zack and Chris, wouldn't ditch the John Williams score. It wouldn't surprise me if they hired John Williams to score the new movie, it'll probably happen.
-
Doesn't mean he is Superman. John Hamm will be 40 when this starts filming. 41 when released. Assuming a 2 year break, 43 if a sequel is made, and 44 when released... <P>To make a new franchise geared toward 13 year olds, you don't want to skew older in your lead actor casting.
-
http://www.justdesktopwallpapers.com/images/filmstv/300/1280/300_07.jpg still the best Batman look i've ever seen. the eyes inside the helmet. that is how i pictured Batman.
-
A sterling suggestion Mr. Dickblood.
-
Brainiac, Darksied (no one knew who Darth Vader was before Star Wars so fuck off!) Gog, Doomsday, Jax-Ur, anyone on this list... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Superman_enemies the only hope this movie has is if Goyer and Nolan keep Snyder on a leash!
-
Carry it over from Smallville so we don't need the whole fucking origin story AGAIN! Tom Welling as Superman, whole cast back!
-
and he's buffed now. i can see him brawling with Supes.
-
Don't see it man, he's more rugged than dashing.
-
Good to hear, last I saw him I was like WTF?
-
Just look at the Watchmen cast. He goes for talent first. Him and Nolan together should be superb.
-
yeah. i thought about it more. i think he'd have made a great Batman though.
-
I'm still worried. General Zod....Zack Synder.... Sounds like a nice ode to Superman 2. Please let this and Spider-Man be good.
-
Bring the whole cast back? Does that mean we can get Glover and Schnieder resurrected? Also, do we really need Kreuk?
-
I'm still worried. General Zod....Zack Synder.... Sounds like a nice ode to Superman 2. Please let this and Spider-Man be good.
-
Again, I don't want another boring ass Bosworth like choice...
-
Superman must fight his most despicable foe yet; censorship.
-
Then why was Nite Owl so terribly miscast?
-
Snyder is a sold visualist and does action well, but he isn't a particularly good director.<p> Nolan just needs to curb Snyder's masturbatory instincts, and we should have a good Supes flick.
-
as a movie villain. Superpowers, so Snyder can destroy a city? Check. Ties to the protagonist? Check. Can they make him a "dark reflection"? Check. Would other villains like Doomsday or Mongul bring something to the table other than "Evil Alien Overlord" (the same role Zod has, but with ties to Krypton for better narrative). No.
-
She's got Margot Kidder qualities to her.
-
He would've been perfect for Jor-El.
-
Apart from Zod, this has much potential. WB, DC, Nolan and Snyder sound like a match made in heaven.
-
We don't need this 'reality-based fiction', wchblade. It's a goddamn MOVIE based on a fucking COMIC BOOK. It should be high escapism. There are some heroes where social commentary can be thrown in here and there...Hell, some of them BEG for it. But some just need to be heroic, right? Some of them aren't conflicted about love, dual identities, morality, etc. They're just doing what's right. Not even what's kind of right or relatively right or the lesser of two evils. I think Superman deserves to be a purely good hero to balance against Batman's questionable morality. I know they might not exist in the same cinematic universe, but I don't want Clark Kent brooding about how he has no choice or the world is worse for having him around. I hope that Nolan and Snyder's realistically foggy takes on human nature can clear up a bit to do Supes justice. And it's been 33 years, guys. Let's try to push for someone else to score us up a heroic theme, okay?
-
Nite Owl was great, Patrick wilson packed on some weight for the role. Casting a great character actor over a big name. This is why even a weak choice like Malin Ackerman still beats out using Lindsey Lohan.
-
She has a perfect personality. Bosworth made me sleepy.
-
Nite Owl was DEAD ON
-
Is Gen. Zod from the comics, or was he from the Donner movies and THEN the comics? Regardless, I'd rather see any other villain. Lizzy Caplan would be a great Lois- agreed, Sherman. I would like to see Rashida Jones. She's like a cuter Margot Kidder. I would also be all for keeping Routh. He was great in Scott Pilgrim and would be a great Superman under the right director in a non-ballerina Superman costume.
-
That's all the fucking rage currently.
-
Brandon South as superman<P> Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Lois<P>Ralph Fines as Lex<P>Gerard Butler as Zod
-
Zod?? Fucking no, man come on WB we just got fucking Zod on Smallville and he was a villain in the Donner films. They refuse to move Superman forward, WTF? A three pic Darkseid and the new gods would be epic.
-
The Prankster(Macy) teams up with the Toyman(Adam Sandler). Together they corner the Pokemon market in Metropolis. Meanwhile, a piece of Red Kryptonite has turned Superman into Rip Van Winkle, and falls into a coma and grows a long gray beard. Jimmy Olsen's Superman single watch is the only thing that can wake Superman up, but Luthor(Nathan Lane) shrinks it and throws into the bottled city of Kandor. Jimmy(Zac Efron) shrinks himself and becomes Flamebird, and goes on a quest in the bottled city for the watch. Can he find it in time? Or will the villians turn Metropolis into the Pokedex?
-
Caviezel is the only actor with the looks and depth to portray supes. Superman should have the qualities of a leader and eyes of tremendous depth and wisdom but still have chiseled good looks.
-
I want a Superman that shows that you can be kind hearted, humble and corny friendly and still be a badass underneath it all. I want to see a movie that utilizes practical special effects as much as possible. I don't want to see a CGI superman. Knowing Nolan is overseeing I trust he will make in-frame sequences a priority and make a beautiful looking picture.
-
incredible lack of creativity
-
Zod as villain is fine, and I hope they go with Ed Norton as someone suggested. As for Lex, please please please, make him PRESIDENT LUTHOR and have him in the background but set up as a major, non-punchable antagonist for the series.
-
Donner's Superman should not be revisited. Nostalgia is not what Superman needs. It seemed like a good idea at the time but it didn't turn out so great. Made for one hell of a trailer though.
-
Or Doomsday.
-
Snyder's work has been hit and miss. I liked 300 and Dawn of the Dead. Haven't seen the Owl flick and Watchmen was boring but visually good.
-
...that superman is an old fashioned superhero and not a pouty emotionless , angsty mesiah allegory (as bryan singer would have you believe) . He leaps tall bulidings in a single bound, gets into punch ups with evil super villains, saves cats from trees- that sort of thing. I really hope that this aspect of the character isnt sacrificed for the new movie because i dont think i can take another pouty faced, dewy eyed superman who sits on rooftops and gets his ass kicked alot. I wanna see superman do superman stuff (and that includes punching badguys, because superman can FUCKING PUNCH HE'S BEEN DOING IT, FOR DECADES, SINGER!)
-
I mean, can you imagine anyone who is the Anti-Obama more? You could even run a viral campaign by having LUTHOR FOR PRESIDENT posters and TV spots etc in the lead up to the pending US Presidential Election.
-
No carry over baggage from the embarrassment by Singer.
-
BRAIANIAC IS FROM KRYPTON TOO USE HIM!!
-
Lots of the choices here are predictable fanboy choices. Think outside the box folks. I mean did anyone predict Andrew Garfield for Spiderman?
-
not live up to fans expectations but will still be a good movie. And it will be appreciated more as time goes by and the initial hype fades away. And 80% of the TBers on here will never be satisfied.
-
No matter how much weight Wilson put on, it wasn't nearly enough. Part of what made him endearing was the fact he shouldn't have been able to snag a chick like Laurie. Wilson didn't capture that at all, he was just a slightly out of shape older dude.
-

Padalecki is not Supes! If WB wants him as a hero then cast him.
by The Founder
Apollo in an Authority film. And Armie Hammer isn't much better as Supes.
-
You get Nolan? And bitch you get zod? And bitch some more. WB is trying to give you both quality, and some continuance and yet........... you still bitch. Here's an idea: go back to your respective basements, put on your underroos, and read your comics. Leave the movies to us big boys and girls. The world will thank you for it ;)
-
Remember that it was all Singer and not Routh at all for the failure or Superman.
-
You're just focusing on the physical.Typical fanboy critique. Patrick Wilson is a fantastic actor and he gave the role more gravitas than any other actor would have. I think he sold both nerdy Dan and Hero Owl. He fit both without going over board on one or the other.
-
Try to remember that General Zod is a very important character. Remember, Zod was a Kryptonian just like Superman is. You don't have to worry about this being a remake of "Superman II", I think it'll be a different story.
-
...got out of the shower, combed back my wet hair, put on a black and silver and white shirt, looked in the mirror, and though "Holy crap! I look just like General Zod!"<p>So, in short, bravo for this move.
-
Mad Men should be over by the time this movie comes out, so that part of Hamm's career will be over. If they want to go for a more serious tone a la 'The Dark Knight', Hamm is the perfect choice as an older Superman. Zack Snyder will make a good, maybe great, movie out of this, I'm sure.
-
I didn't know there was really that many fags on AICN
-
Too old to begin the franchise.
-
Also, Goyer stole my Superman idea. Fact!
-
Snyder and Nolan, haven't even released the plot/synopsis of the film yet. Quit accusing Snyder of too much "slow motion" and quick picking on their choice of villain. Wait until the plot comes out, and then you can whine, bitch and complain. The story to the new film will be different than the earlier ones.
-

Hey, I wonder if these guys bitching about another Zod film...
by rev_skarekroe
...are the same ones DEMANDING that they recast The Joker for the next Batman movie?
-
This is bad fucking news, worse even than Bryan Singer and I hate his depressive ass.
-
To me, the Superman mythology has always been about the empowerment of the noble individual over the might of the industrial age ... a reassurance that empathy and purity will not be swept aside by technology.<BR><BR> Not faster than light. Not lifting continents from the ocean. Just on par with our strongest technology, made flesh and blood with an elemental empathy to do good. <BR><BR>Personally I would make a Superman movie an unapologetic direct rip of 9/11. No subtly, no abstraction: just wind back the clock to the morning of that day and put Superman in the world. That's the empowerment wish of this generation.
-
do not want Doomsday. Doomsday is and always was a crappy villain (if he even qualifies AS a villain, more of a mindless beast really). Good for a slugfest, sure, but nothing else. If you use Doomsday someone would have to be controlling him (or at least be responsible for unleashing him). Zod could play that role I suppose, but it would greatly lessen his own. This is not an attack or a challenge to anyone who has mentioned him, it's only my opinion...take it for what you will.
-
Seriously how can you NOT have a geek boner about this? Nolan. Zod. Snyder under Nolan's guiding hand. That alone is enough.<P>And I'm afraid Jon Hamm IS too old. If only he were ten years younger he'd be already trying out the costume.
-
Yes, General Zod did die at the end of Superman II, maybe this new movie, "The Man of Steel" will be taking place before, "Superman II". Think about it.
-
no need to recast, just name-drop him once or twice. That's all I ask.
-
Will they use it? That's my number one question. It doesn't really fit in a dark or gritty Superman tale but whichever composer(please god not Brian Tyler) gets gig will be under an insane amount of pressure. Cant imagine superman without that great fucking theme. They go hand in hand. Maybe hire Williams to rework it a bit . Please Snyder GET THE RIGHT COMPOSER PLEASE!
-
You know a actor better placed for Superman right now than Armie Hammer?
-
Let's face it. Most of that rogue's gallery would have to be cgi and it's surprisingly not as much fun to watch in the long run. A well-written villain with a good actor to chew the scenery really gives it a necessary kick. Zod makes sense since he's one of the few human looking characters Superman can actually punch.
-
Oh, I'll go see this movie (unless the previews show horrid, horrid things (like Supes in a jetpack, holding a sword, or something)), but I'll obsess and worry about it more than is good for me.
-
Why? I don't see the appeal of Superman in today's pop culture really.
-
Artic patrol picked him, his posse, and Lex up in deleted scenes.
-
I am going to say this right now, that the Snyder Superman film will do the same numbers as Returns, or less. Reason being is Smallville. It is a cockblock for a successful Superman film. The show has been on for Ten freaking years, and there is an army voting for Tom Welling to be Superman. I love Superman, and like Smallville, but you and me both know there isn't a snowball's chance in hell for Welling to be Superman. There is a strike 1 already with Zod being chosen for the villain of the new film, the next one will be who they decide to pick to be Superman. There are too many fans wanting Welling, or Routh, or your Mama to play Superman, and no one will be happy for who ends up playing him.
-
The Fleischer Superman cartoons are incredible. What if Snyder did a period piece Superman movie? THat would rock my fucking DICK RIGHT OFFF!
-
Hey Larry, I agree wholeheartedly. I'm in the same camp about Superman NOT being dark and brooding, but was merely stating that these guys do the reality-based fiction that (it would appear) that the audience and studios today seem to need via their lack of imagination. I'm all for a black and white Superman and he definitely needs to be the antithesis of Batman. I read those books faithfully. Two different heroes and methods, but aiming for the same goals. Reality based in Donner's film would be a kid with Supes' powers using them to race a train or cops thinking they were drunk as a man in blue tights and a red cape flies away. Those are REAL human reactions and POVs. Sorry you misunderstood my meaning.
-
Which is what Superman kind of it... Jesus with a cape.
-
I need to see Superman spin him in slo-mo.
-
I think these three guys could easily write and film earth being invaded by Darkseid although you might want to save something like that until a JLA movie.
-
Kate Bosworth was a Terrible choice for Superman Returns...IMO!
-
Just kidding... I'll wait and hear what the cast is going to be before I get excited though.
-
DOTD was OK. 300 wasn't bad. Watchmen was soulless and lacked the squid. Zod is bullshit. Should have gone crazy with FX and had BRAINIAC, Mongul or Darkseid. I'll reserve judgement until I see it but would have preferred to live in a world where Nolan did Batman and Aronofsky did Superman. Roll on 2012 so we can all really see what's going to happen with this trainwreck/homerun. <P>Oh and Cavaziel would be my choice as the big blue boyscout.
-
http://tinyurl.com/2dvk6w9 <br><br> 3:45 in.

Yeah it's been on for 10 years. But remember, every day a new kid turns 13-14-15. And they are not usually "Smallville" watchers. The audience for "Smallville" grew up with the show and they are older now. If the audience is growing with newer generations watching, the ratings would reflect that. <P>I doubt that WB is going to yield to the demands of the 2-3 million fans of a show who's viewership has faded with time. <P>Credit for lasting so long, but this movie will have nothing to do with "Smallville". <P>Also if "Revenge of the Fallen" can make 400 million domestic based on the buying power of teens. A new "Superman" with an action packed trailer will kill at the box office. <P>But it won't kill with Welling in the role, because then it's "Smallville: The Movie".

I DON'T KNOW. SNYDER COULD'VE DONE NUCLEAR MAN RIGHT.
by BringingSexyBack
Still time to switch villains.
-
That is all.
-
He's 42. By the time the movie comes out he'll be 44 going on 45. By the time a sequel comes out he'll be pushing 50...
-
I loathe Bay. I despise Ratner. The fact that I'd take either one of them over Snyder should give you some idea of the contempt I have for him. Bay and Ratner make no pretensions--whether they actually admit it or not--that they are hacks w...ho make lowest common denominator popular entertainment for the masses and in so doing get richer and richer. Snyder has the delusion/illusion that he is an artist/artiste/auteur, an illusion that's been fed and fostered by sycophantic fanboys who maintain that the all style/no substance 300 is a classic and the absolute cinematic botched abortion that was Watchmen is in fact an unfairly derided masterpiece. As much as I hope the involvement of Nolan will offset Snyder's worst impulses, my hope for this project just dropped to the bottom--and if it's the absolute creative and financial failure that I think it WILL be, I think it will cause an IMMEDIATE reassessment of the unfairly maligned Superman Returns. I'll see it, with as open a mind as I can muster, but I am just supremely un-thrilled.

Alaina De Garza as Lois, Henry Cahill as supes
by Captain_Clarence_Oveur
De Garza is on Law and Order so she can do tough and looks like Lois.<br> <br> Cahill was up for the supes role before losing it to Routh and was a finalist for the next James Bond before Craig got it.
-
We don't know what happened to Zod, as he was cast into the Pit of Vagueness...
-
It wasn't great but solid, a good nod to Superman I
-
There are no new ideas on the left-coast. It's just remakes and rehashes of the same old thing. Kinda like Obama...
-
Couldn't be happier with Snyder getting the job. This will be a very visual and much darker movie than Superman Returns. In my opinion, either keep the continuity of the casting or redo the entire cast with Jim Caviziel as Superman, Keira Knightley as Lois Lane, Topher Grace as Jimmy Olsen and Terrance Stamp as General Zod.
-
...has it occurred to anyone that, since this IS Nolan-produced, we could possibly get a cameo by Christian Bale's Batman? Brandon Routh's Christopher-Reeve-like boy scout thing would be a good balance against Bale's brooding dark Bats.
-
one hour of real story, 90 minutes of slow-mo filler. even his owl cartoon was mostly slow-mo. not happy.
-
Can we have a confirmation you'll do one? And we won't mention the fact he wrote the words to White Cliffs of Dover while America cowardly hid from the Nazi's :-)
-
I can promise you that. Batman's going to stay where he belongs, in his own separate stand alone universe as was originally intended.
-
that "Clark Kent" is suppose to have a cameo on Green Lantern. If WB is smart and want to make money they should film at the last minute a cameo of who will be the new Superman, and let it be there where people find out who it will be. Superhero cameos work for Marvel! Just saying....
-
they characters are stand-alone icons.
-
Christoph Waltz would make a great Zod. This is best case scenario, Snyder is totally meant to direct a Superman film (and hopefully trilogy). Watchmen Director's cut is one of the best comic book films ever made (if not THE best) - up there with Nolan's for sure, so what a perfect team. I wonder if any of the Sucker Punch cast will be in this?
-
I find it disheartening that even WE are obsessed with the youth aspect. If we can't support a slightly more mature man what hope is there?
-
If you guys wants honest criticism, here is some. Most of your choices for casting of Superman are terrible. Jim Caviziel would not make a great Superman. I don't want Brandon Routh back either. Wouldn't surprise me if Zack Snyder has got his eye on Billy Crudup, the star of the "Watchmen" movie. Crudup would make a great Superman and he could use a bigger role.
-
Zach Snyder is an amazing visual director...as long as Nolan or someone else is onboard to ride herd over the acting/story bits, this could turn out petty good...at the very least,it'll LOOK like a comic book movie should look.
-
Hamm is nearing 40, looks 50. Too old for a possible decades worth of films.
-
cool news although it he was the most obvious and best choice from the beginning.GO SNYDER GO.
-
He'll just film it in slo-mo and speed up the playback. <P> Problem solved.

-
Long live Singer's Superman Lives!!!!

Hopefully this will have less slow mo though, which I think Snyder uses too much to try and make a scene look like a comic book pane. It will be interesting to see what he does with a superhero movie not based on a specific book.

He's got megawatt heat off The Social Network. He's got a commanding voice and presence. Not sure how he'll look with dark hair, though.

by cgih8r
DC doesn't do things like Marvel tho, for good reason. People should get used to that.
-
But Matthew Fox can't fucking act.
-
Oh yeah.
-
What about Doomsday? Mongul? Brainiac? The Cyborg? Darkseid? Please: let go of the 70s Superman movies once and for all, that was Bryan Singer's mistake! It's the 21st century!!!
-
We don't need another retread, no matter how fancy or dark. What we need is a true kick-ass sequel - better or worse. The whole Loise Lane and Lex Luther thing has been done to death. There were 1,000 of stories without them. Let's have a great villian and an interesting Superman. One who has to deal with not only his obsession for being social dysfunctional, but dealing with being an illegal alien as well. Damn, the man has the ability to be the utimate Machete! All joking aside, I never saw Superman as dark. Perhaps smarmy like George Reeves - now that would be cool,
-
So another reboot? Zod is just done to death, can't touch Terrance Stamp. Smallville did Zod to death also. Doomsday would be better. Duh.
-
in slow motion. This is a vast improvement of Supes moping around in his speedos and sighing.
-
in slow motion. This is a vast improvement over Supes moping around in his speedos and sighing.
-
Yeah, I was gonna point out what already hads been pointed out to you. If you want to break it down a little further, DC is the COMIC BOOK company, and they are all about crossovers, they even have an ongoing Superman/Batman series going. Warner Brothers (which owns DC) does the television (like Smallville, lots of crossovers there, you may want to look into it) and the movies — which the Superman hasn't been filmed yet, so we'll see if WARNER'S wants to make the decision to establish continuity within their movies.
-
I'll admit it: Back when he was involved in the Justice League movie, I dismissed him just because he had a silly sounding name. Who knew the guy had any talent? I don't know if he'd make a great Superman, but I definitely judged the guy unfairly. So, I'm sorry (but I'm still going to make fun of your name, feel free to do the same to mine).

-
Superman Returns was a complete mess. I hope that Zack Snyder can do the character justice; I *don't* want to see a two hour string, of 300 style slow motion shots. Nolan as producer was a good start; but I'm staying guarded, after this news, until some casting work has been done.
-
Jon Hamm as Clark Kent/Superman Carla Gugino as Lois Lane Gerard Butler as General Zod Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Lex Luthor He's worked with all of them.
-
it's the fact that he's always written as the character who makes the right moral choice. A being with such powers who is forced to make a bad/ambiguous choice, and then must face the consequences, is the only kind of superhero we want now. What 'The Dark Knight' promised us in Batman, but did *not* deliver.
-
I'm so happy that Zack Snyder will direct this... but can we please see something we have yet to see. Brainiac... Myxlplyt.... Bizarro... why the fuck do they keep rehashing shit that we've seen before. I'll be there on opening night like everyone else, but we've seen this movie before
-
...would actually make a great Superman, if they're planning to hae him tanked through the whole movie
-
If she was cast she'd have to told to scale it back a bit.
-
BRainiac could BRING Doomsday to Earth, Lex Luthor is nowhere in sight.
-
They've made the statement that they believe in keeping their characters in their own separate universes telling their own separate stand-alone stories in movies. They're proud of how this separates them from Marvel. Nolan has made the same statement so don't get your hopes up. Every time a DC movie is coming out the same fan-boys keep hoping they're going to tie everything together like Marvel and do an eventual Justice League film. It's just not the case. It won't happen.
-
of teaming superman up with made-up characters like Richard Pryor instead of batman. Ya know? Cuz audiences would just fucking hate to see an unbelievably kickass batman superman team-up.
-
I think Mongul is ready for the big movie experience.<br> He gan go toe to toe with Supes<p> There was a bunch if ghey ass kneeling before zod on smallville last season
-
All the other villains you can possibly choose and you go back to Zod. I'd rather see the Super Friends era Toyman than him again (not really, I'd rather have something like Bruce Timm's Toyman).
-
They don't need to resort to throwing there big properties into one basket to make a dent like Marvel is doing.
-
He could do it with one of his clone selves while fucking. And his huge lollying cock could bounce off his inner thigh(best cg animation in history?) and knock supes like a wrecking ball. Oh and for you kids who wondered why there was so much digital dick in watchmen. It's because it's just like the comic. You simply see the panels in-between panels in the film. See? It's not so hard to understand the reality we all experience. It just takes a nice person to explain it to you slowly and concisely

I don't want an origin story. I wouldn't mind an origin reminder, lasting maybe 20 mins (Superman landing in the U.S. in the '30's). But I want this Supes to deal with more personal, psychological issues. He's come to the realization that he will not die while those around him, those he loves, are dying to both natural and unnatural causes. Crime doesn't stand a chance against his physical might. His reason to fight crime (truth, justice, and the American way) have become a muddled mess and Superman doesn't know what it is he is fighting for anymore, or even if it matters. Then, he faces a true challenge: Gen. Zod. Then, whatever they do from that, I'll be happy with.
-
Zod's been done already -- give us a new villian!!<br>
-
and I'm sure it will be. Marvel will merely get a taste of what it's like to be in DC's shoes. They don't need any help making money.
-
fucking what I wanted for superman 3. Here is the poster for superman 2: The 3 villains from Krypton descend to earth, to confront the man of steel, in a cosmic battle for world supremacy. Here is the poster for superman 3: Superman flys around with a scared black guy. That fucking poster was supposed to say Superman VS Batman. Batman's costume would have been designed by dune's designer. They coulda teamed up after a scuffle to take down brainiac. Fuck it the cartoons are 200 billion times better than any superhero movies. Crisis on multiple earths with james woods owlman villain is memorable. That shit is fantastic
-
PLEASE get rid of that shit brown cape! And the "I'm Superman" belt buckle, while you're at it. Just let Superman be Superman for once. A kick ass alien who's adopted this planet and who's all about something good and noble. Is that so hard?
-
Unless, he grows up in this film to be a surly super-teen who gets into building-destroying knock-down-drag-outs with his dad, kind of like Superboy-Prime. Now, that would be a cool movie!
-
set in 1930s America, which ends just befoe the very first Max Fleischer short (a screenshot from the short is the book cover) would actually make an excellent Superman film.
-
what do you mean?
-
THE SUPERMAN IS REAL, AND HE IS AMERICAN
-
It sounds like you got everything you wanted already. I like the cartoons too for what they are. But when it comes to the live action movies I prefer my Superman working alone in his own universe and I'm happy that DC and Nolan agree.
-
psychological issues, then go and rewatch SR,since thats what the movie was all about.
-
Superman should remain the light to Batman's dark. I want the brightly colored costume, no muted-brown red.
-
that's what I meant. Dark Knight made nearly double what Iron Man 2 made (not to down Iron Man or Marvel I'm a fan of there stuff too). DC is doing just fine making stand-alone movies where the characters get their own stories and can carry their own weight at the box office.
-
Yes, Zod was cool. And if I want to see him again, I'll fucking watch Superman II. Give us something new, you cunts. <br>This is fucking Goyer's doing. Stop paying that douche money goddammit!

No origin story, no lex, no zod. Give us something that hasn't been used in the past 5 disgusting abortions that we call Superman movies. GIVE US SOMETHING!!! This feels like the fucking highlander franchise. Totally fubar with no lube.

Zod works for an origin story. And if you do him right you can set him up as a kind of anti-Superman, a perversion of Superman's ideals. Superman wants to inspire us to save ourselves. Zod wants to save us from ourselves. <p> Forget Terrence Stamp and Planet Huston. While I cringe at the thought of a Superman movie directed by Snyder and written by Goyer, if they pull this off the way I think it can be done it could be something really special...the problem of course is that it's Snyder and Goyer...so...you know....get ready for the non flying, Fox-produced Superman in about 5 years when Warners lose the rights. <p> The fate of the entire Superman legacy is at stake here. If the film isn't a hit, Superman as we know it will die. The Siegel and Shuster heirs will claim that WB have mishandled the property and decide to deal with Fox or Disney and that will be the end of it.
-
toons and they really go far in showing you the end of what this stuff could ever be live action. And frankly it would be a live action version of the exact thing the cartoons do. But there's the Richard Pryor/3rd tier villain rehash crap to consider. I dont want a batman movie without joker at least overseeing villainy in the background like spector. And I don't want another take on 2 face. I want superman and batman shoulder to shoulder back to back or at each other's throats in the same way audiences wanted Moses to fight Ahab and yes they finally made that movie. Also its simply inevitable
-
Because he almost killed the Superman franchise with his boring deadbeat-superdad "opus". I want a Superman with action, that kicks ass. I think this is a step in the right direction.
-
For those who are still being whiny bitches about it; There's no chance in hell they'll use the origins in this because there's a lawsuit preventing it. Now you can all stop sucking your thumbs about whether the origins will be repeated. And Jon Hamm doesn't look shit like superman. Dark hair and blue eyes doesn not equal Superman. And Jim Caveizal (however you spell it) is a skinny elderly man nowadays. Welling still looks like he's 18. Routh might still be ok, especially now that he's a little older. Matthew Bomer looks the part but might not be able to pull it off. And anyone who honestly thinks transformers 2 or Pearl Harbor are better than anything Snyders directed needs to never have an opinion about anything ever again. In fact, let's just go ahead and remove their voting rights as well, since they really don't know what they're doing with it anyway.
-
Anyone that wants to support him there are a couple of petitions going around. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bring-Brandon-Routh-back-for-the-man-of-steel-reboot/494294110437
-
Snyder's typical gimmick is pretty much the thing ANY flimmaker would use to show Supes at Superspeed doing things no human eye could naturally see. <p> Lame about ZOD though. I say the title "MAN OF STEEL" should be saved for either Metallo or Hank Henshaw. Also, Jon Hamm for Supes/ Henshaw/ Bizarro/ Prime or any other version of Superman that they ever use.
-
you can keep looking up at the sky or you can look down at the ground you're standing on. Supes and Bats will never meet in a blockbuster movie.
-
That's about all I could muster up in response to this news
-
and the original Theme!
-
Keep John Williams main title theme and cast Rashida and I'll definitely see it!
-
Something from the New Gods or even Eclipso. How about Cosmic Odyssey the movie (never going to happen but it would be awesome)? Something that can tie into or kick off a broader DCU film set. Maybe they'll introduce the greater universe concept in Green Lantern, and continue it in this.
-
to make that Wolverine sequel that we've all been waiting for with bated breath. Heh heh heh. Right...
-
Jon Hamm is too old<P> Jim Caviezel is a joke.<P> Joe Manganiello has a broken nose<P> Armmie Hammer is blond and has a stupid voice.<P> Tom Welling can only play Superman on TV because Smallville's continuity is too fucked.<P> Jared Padalecki might not be pretty enough.<P> Brandon Routh can't get another chance because general audiences will wonder where the baby is.<P> Honestly, they should find a male model with a brain and make him a star.
-
Seriously- Kate Bosworth was the worst part of that movie. My vote is Zooey Deschanel.
-
I forgot about his X-men moratorium (until the rights revert, anyway). Sorry, man, won't happen again.
-
John Malkovich as ZOD. Kneel before Malkovich.
-
DWAYNE FUCKING JOHNSON!!!
-
That's disappointing.

What does color have to do with portraying a fictional character?
-
he better remain black in Hancock 2.

...has been known to redesign, and update their characters on a regular basis? Both in appearance and backstory.

...I still won't give a shit about the sequel. Horrible film.

I'm ok with Routh doing it again...no idea who to play Zod. I reserve my judgment on this till I see Sucker Punch. I wanted to see Brainiac personally...oh well, KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!
-
Pass the kneepads.
-
And stunt cast John Krasinski as Superman! Steve Carell as Perry White! B.J. Novak as Jimmy Olsen! The Daily Planet scenes will be THE OFFICE with glasses!
-
They need to cast a talented unknown for Superman/Clark. Routh was great at doing the role for the Bryan Singer film, but they need to start from scratch for this one.<P>Lois Lane should be an unknown as well. Remember how Bryce Dallas Howard stole the thunder in The Village? She was pretty much an unknown then. For this film, I want that same kind of surprise revelation for Superman and Lois Lane.
-
...apparently he's good friends with Tom Welling. I doubt he'd even accept this without at least getting his blessing.
-
We should get some damn good talkbacks out this production in the near future. Glad to have been a part of this one. Later, everybody.
-
What have we learned from Snyder's filmography? He can deliver gorgeous, painterly images that flow in slow-motion and can make a 2-minute trailer that makes your eyeballs explode in lust. But a full feature-length, he delivers boring-assed, heartless movies that are ultimately depressing and soulless. His weaknesses are EXACTLY the same weaknesses of Superman Returns. All head, no heart, some nice storyboards, a great trailer. And a spiritual vacuum at the core. Nice art-film philosophical askewed-angle take on the character, but, NOT. SUPERMAN. I hope that Nolan's sweeping, engrossing brand of genius can act as a corrective to Snyder's worst self-indulgent impulses. Nolan's vision could act as a defibrillator, jolting life into Snyder's cinematically bankrupt, slide-show paintings. A home-run of a casting choice could tip the balance in a positive direction. Perhaps Snyder evolves and gets a heart transplant. His initial comment "the character deserves to be loved again" indicates he has a chance to succeed. An otherwise good and solid Superman film could become iconic with his brilliant eye and FX genius. He has it within him to paint a filmic Sistine Chapel of images. But if it's in service of a dead fish, like his previous work, it will fail to resonate. Snyder - study footage of Chris Reeve and Tom Welling at their finest. Read "All Star Superman" at least ten times. May the motherflippin force be with you, because you need it.
-
I agree, I enjoy all this back and forth, CGIh8r, I enjoy debating with you, and while I agree that the Nolanverse probably won't crossover into itself, I hope that Warner's and DC do someday produce a great DC movie. Thank you for keeping all the debating civil and respectful.
-
Fuck OFF with your constant suggestions for Tom Welling, Nathan Fillion, Jared Padalecki, insert-shitty-actor-from-your-favorite-shitty-fanboy-tv-show-here. What is it with geeks?! Your ideas are shit, and that's why movie studios ignore you completely. Just by endorsing these actors, you are ensuring that they will NEVER be movie stars. And this movie is going to suck ass unless they get someone to heavily rewrite whatever that fucking hack Goyer drooled on to the page in one of his untalented seizures.

Excited and at the same time apprehensive about Snyder
by Miyamoto_Musashi
Really enjoyed 300 and Dawn of the Dead, and thought Watchmen was fantastic. <p> Given his style I can't help feel that there will be too much Matrix style fights, particularly with Zod in it, as others have said that Neo v Agent Smith fight is what I could imagine as a shot he will use. <p> Additionally it will be hard work not to be just an updated version of Superman 2 with better CGI. <p> But will give him a chance and he needs to pick a great actor for Zod, should he be strong and muscular like Gerrad Butler or more physically like Stamp i.e. Jude Law
-
this is pretty silly when you think about it as Singer was intending on his sequel to involve Zod. If not for all the hesitation and paranoia we would have already had our proper Singer directed sequel. So essentially Singer was booted so they could follow his course. What a pointless exercise. All you Singer bashers can really eat shit.. SR may not have been perfect but it was a great film and he would have undoubtibly made a epic sequel.. now you'll have to pray Snyder does'nt botch this.
-
Wasn't rooting for Snyder, but the more I think about it the more he seems like the right guy for the job. Here's hoping that Nolan/Snyder's Zod will lean towards the Superman 2 version, rather than the Smallville or comics version.

Lex has to be IN the movie, but Zod does the heavy villiany
by Tall_Boy66
Kinda like Superman 2. Luthor isn't the bad guy of that movie, but he's clearly an antagonist and he's in the flick itself. Maybe even less this time, just have him hang back and pull some puppet strings if they have any sense. Not the borderline barely-in-the-movie cameo that Moriarty had in Sherlock Holmes.
-
Loved "Watchmen", trust Nolan. SR sucked big time, because it was no fucking boring. I liked Routh though; give him a shot with a better script. I love Kevin Spacey, but I thought he was horribly miscast. I never saw 'Lex' on the screen - just Spacey screaming from time to time. I would rather have seen Darkseid cast as the villian - this should be the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Supes films. We need to see him not hold back against some true planetary threat. I mean, he's fucking SUPERMAN. I wanna see him save the fucking PLANET. I think Zod could work (and I think Gerard Butler would be a stroke of genius), but that's not the movie I was hoping to see. *sigh*
-
Should be involved in it to some extent and maybe can be a bridge of sorts with Darkseid in the one after
-
Let's do a whole movie where Superman peeps and lifts stuff but the GOOD SHIT will be in the sequel. Honest injun. Right. You snooze, you lose Singer.
-
The Dude is tall Hell when I saw him at a New Orleans set.The dude looks like Clark Kent In real life. Age doesn't really matter, as long you can make impact on the role, and he seems ideal for it
-
"I'm 6'5, I'm invulnerable, I'm a super-strong alien from Krypton and there's two of me!" (<---Paraphrasing his great line from Social Network)
-
I am glad Snyder is doing this w/ Nolan on board too. I don't know what people are talking about when they say Snyder has made no good movies. I liked 300, DOTD, & The Watchmen. I am looking forward to seeing some action finally in a Superman film. I liked Moon, but I'd rather not see a super slow styled version of Superman. Plus w/ the news of Zod being the villain; I love it. Superman 2 was my favorite of the original old school Superman flicks(minus the goofy throwing the S off the chest power & teleporting).
-
Was brilliant in TSN. Definitely worth a shot.
-
I definitely co-sign your idea of having Butler play General Zod. Great idea.
-
is a genius. Perfect casting.
-
And not becuase of a pryor fuck up. No supes should dress up as someone else and do bad things. Kill his goodself off and force the world to unite to stop his fake bad guy. Zod aint shit with out his crew. I really hope that hot chick and that dumb big russian dude are with him. And i still say a great plot would be everyone on earth becuase superpowered and supes becomes average everyday man. The dynamics are very big and it would take a very savy scribe to make it into an interesting story. If the sun went red and the world was coming to an end, and everyone was super. What would you do what would we do. Like the plane going down everyone starts fucking or whatever.

UltimaRex you can't be serious? I can find 10 better then Hammer
by The Founder
seriously dude you did not ask me who else is out there? Armie Hammer(I hate even typing the name)is not Superman. i don't care if the guy is 6"4 or 3 or whatever. Have you heard him talk? He's an ok actor I guess. i havent seen much of him but i certain he is not Superman.
-
If you gonna put the heroes together then Darkseid would be the more logical choice for the villian. He has vast resources and an army of Superpowered thugs or gods or minions. I also confident that WB will never pony up the cash to make an JLA movie of such a scale.
-
Nathan Fillion, Tom Welling the rest of the usual suspects that is mentioned here often makes me glad that FANBOYS DONT HAVE THE POWER OR A SAY IN CASTING SOME OF THESE ROLES.
-
One thing that really annoyed me about returns was the endless hype about when the suit will be revealed, and the endless discussion about it.
-
Another Superman rehash with a director I do not at all trust with the human element. So basically a Superman 2 remake by a paint-by-numbers director. Hope they prove me wrong, but doubt it.
-
Saw him in a interview. He says he's always wanted to play Supe's. Seems to not be a bad choice and is relatively unknown which I think the studio may go for. http://www.trueblood-news.com/joe-manganiello-talks-about-his-beard
-
I do not wanna see Tom Welling on the big screen period. He's fine for tv but he and the rest of the actors on Smallville just comes across a little substandard.
-
Hopefully there is going to be more to him than, "kneel before Zod!" let's not make that his only motivation throughout the movie. I say a team up with Brainiac. Superman is a God so we have to make this as tough as possible for him.
-
Everything sounds fantastic about this! Can't wait to hear more!
-
As General Zod.
-
Boo!! Thought I'd just scare you all. C'mon. Jacob the Superman. Just think about it.
-
It just amazes me in talkback after talkback how negative and closed minded people are that they wright off movies even before they're made. Oh, well. I am excited to get another Superman movie and I think they made a wise choice in the director. I will wait and see the movie before I judge it...that only makes sense. Oh...and Brandon Routh for Superman!!!!
-
I'd like to nom Dominic Purcell...

Zod should be black. or there are only white people in Krypton?
by KilliK
-
I'd like to second the nom of Mads Mikkelsen, don't know who mentioned that awhile back, but it was an inspired choice.
-
get him all skeezy looking and he'd be perfect for the part.
-
Son of Jor-El...KNEEL before Zod!
-
Singer's sequel was about Zod and completing the story line with the son. With this reboot they should have started with Lex and Metallo and moved on to Brianiac or Darkseid... You know villains we want to see. Either way I actually trust Snyder and I'm worried about Nolan's input. I don't want a "real world" Superman I want an epic kick ass Superman!
-
... now I hope that they will make the right casting choices for the actors who will be in front of the cameras. One of the MANY things wrong with Superman Returns (and believe me, there were many) was the casting - especially the part of Lois Lane. When I think of how well both Watchmen and the Dark Knight were cast (especially the role of the Joker), I'm pretty confident that this team will do a much better job than their predecessors on Superman Returns.
-
I thought I'd add another comment to make it longer!
-
But that implies DC/Warners know what they are doing. <p> And cant see that at least before 2020. <p> They don't appear to have a plan like Marvel does, I would have thought a JLA movie by 2014 would be a very reasonable timeframe. <p> Within that timeframe you have another Batman movie, Superman, Green Lantern, Flash and Wonder Woman. I am not convinced you need 7 in the team, but if need be add in the Wonder Twins, kidding Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter
-
So my vote goes to John Hamm. Look, guys, Superman is simply an "old school" superhero -- that's the impression the general moviegoing public has of him. I hope Goyer and Nolan are not attempting to "reboot" the character. I hope they have the same idea that's been on my mind: make Superman an older, more mature veteran superhero who has been at his game for a generation already. Their take on Batman has been great, but with Superman let's go the opposite route. And after 10 years of Smallville, we don't need another SuperBOY. I'd like to see Supes as a grown-up, mature MAN.
-
Remember that the script is by Goyer and the Nolans. They've had two villains in both of their Batman films. There maybe a second popular villain in the Superman mythos that they are keeping quiet about for now (just as they did about Two-Face showing up in The Dark Knight).
-
..I like the idea of Zod being the 'Vader' to Darkseid's 'Emperor'. Someone else mentioned the idea of Darkseid releasing Zod and his crew from the Negative Zone - I like that (wouldn't the majority of the 'inmates' have been Kryptonian? I don't know sjit about canon, but I'm just using common sense). An army of Supermen to soften up the planet for when Darkseid shows - or Doomsday - Whatever. Big friggin' battles with people getting punched through buildings (and in real time). @ brandon - Can't take credit for the Butler casting, came from someone else in the thread, I was simply agreeing with it. I think he would nail it - "THIS! IS! KRYPTON!"
-
..that I'd love to see Jon Hamm as Supes in a JLA movie. All the heroes a bit older, and more beat up - cynical. I think he'd be a lock for that. Too bad Warner's doesn't have the balls to gearup for a movie of that magnatude, ala Marvel and the upcoming Avengers movie(s). Keeping (most of - sorry, Eddie) the same actors to play their original roles is genius.
-
"Snyder sucks." "Nolan is overrated." "The blue they're using in the costume is a half-shade too dark." "The 'S' is pushed too far up his chest." "His codpiece isn't big enough." "MY CHILDHOOD IS BEING RAPED!!!!"
-
Zod, really?<br><br>I hope they go with the whole "Superman kills Zod" storyline at least.
-
It's Zack Snyder. You know it's coming.
-
they both fight crime, but they go about it in opposing ways. a dark Superman is about idealism - believing that humanity is capable of much good. Batman is about realism - that even the best people are capable of the worst. making Superman into a dark character goes against everything the character is about. even in the dark and uncertain times we live in, Superman has to stand as a beacon of hope, as a pillar of justice that we should all strive to emulate. Brando's speech as Jor-El sums to it perfectly: "They're a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you, my only son." You can still make a Supoerman movie that is dark, but keep Superman the beacon of light he's supposed to be. Don't make his character dark like Batman. but I agree that Gerard Butler would make an awesome Zod, though I'd rather see a villain we haven't seen on film before. having Darkseid as the villain would have been EPIC.
-
ZOD!!
-
Don't care much for Superman, but: Nolan, Snyder, Superman 3D. Sold, sold, sold.
-
It guarantees this movie is going to have lots of action with Superman kicking ass. Isn't that what everyone was asking for after SR?? What else can you brats find to bitch about?
-
But only if Zod is killed by Doomsday.<p>Yes? Please? Thank you.
-
Z:He cares. He actually cares for them. U:Like pets. Z:I suppose so.
-
Best Superman material in a looooong time. not particularly well suited to a movie, and even if it were so adapted it suffers from being Luthor driven (too much luthor in the movies thus far), but still... worth your comic book allowance.
-
<p>I mean, I haven't seen much of his work--only 300 and Watchmen. Of the former, I only remember the visual artistry of it, and the latter, I only recall the fact that the Rorshach and Nite Owl were really well cast. Otherwise, all the other parts of both films were pretty much forgettable.</p> <p>What the Superman franchise needs isn't a visual overhaul, which is basically the only decent thing Snyder could bring to the table. The franchise needs to break away from the Donner influence and go back to its comic book roots.</p> <p>What you need is a good script--get a decent writer like Geoff Johns or Grant Morrison--and then get a director who can balance between character driven drama, and decent action. Snyder just seems way too 1-dimensional to make a decent Superman flick, even if you do have Nolan supervising. The last thing I want is some visually stylized film with explosions and punching and stuff like that. That's no different than having Michael Bay direct a Superman film, and nobody wants that.</p>
-
but it sucked. I hope this is good but I'll stick to my Chris Reeve version.
-
Don't know what else to say, because it's just so obvious.
-
My money is on Henry Cavill as Superman. Even as producer, Nolan may want a Brit in the lead roll. And they're not going to cast anyone over 35 in my opinion. So that puts out Caveizel and Hamm for Supes, although both could be inspired choices for Zod. Again, depending on how much influence Nolan has, the cast could be largely Brit. I think Gerard Butler could be awesome as Zod.
-
That is all I can come up with. The fact this "reboot" mirrors Donner's sequel [as in Zod as main villian] is ominous in itself. History repeating itself, again?
-
FANTASTIC NEWS
-
I'm freakin' peeing in my freakin' PANTS. THIS WILL BE FANTASTIC ! PERFECT ! Kudos to JIM LEE and GEOFF JOHNS !!!
-
Snyder is like that friend who is a blast to play video games with or watch action movies. But sometimes you get the feeling he's not all that bright, and everyone at work is always complaining about his irresponsibility. You like him because he's fun and wacky . . . but you'd shudder to trust him with anything valuable like your comic book collection.
-
...that's why they're turning it into the next DC Animated Movie (the preview is on the latest "Superman/Batman" animated movie they just released). So my choice for Supes? I'm actually kind of leaning towards Joe Manganiello...he has a good look to him and I think he'd do great in some intense fight sequences. And hey, who's to say that since Zod and Brainiac are both from Krypton, there's not a story there? Both intent on taking over the Earth, but for very different reasons. Brainiac in the mode of destroying the Earth to replicate Krypton and Zod wanting to conquer the planet and make the Earth his slaves. Not a sequel to any of the previous films (Superman Returns, either), just start the thing...we know who all the players are...for those who are demographically challenged and have never seen the the "ancient" 1981 "Superman II", make Zod young and sexy...but dangerous...a sort of charming rogue, who actually makes a play for Lois (plenty of outstanding hot chick actresses from the recently cancelled "Legend of the Seeker" series have nothing to do right now). Have fun with it...turn it on it's ear and shake up the status quo a little bit...within in the confines of the world of Superman, of course. I actually will anticipate this movie.
-
to render judgment..
-
But only if it gets the full DOMINO treatment. I want to combine my love of Superman with my love of LSD something fierce.
-
I never do this, but anyone that thinks Hamm is too old for the part is a moron. How long do you think the franchise will last with the same actor?? Even if it's a huge success, probably no more than three movies, taking less than a decade to produce(Spider-man as a model here). Superman has super powers for Christs sake. He doesn't have to be an athletic specimen to appease your crappy suspension of disbelief. Supes should have authority and the ability to inspire people. Hamm has those chops in spades and looks the part like no other living actor. Cast him now and catch lightening in a bottle.
-
DC is going to want to eventually do a proper Justice League movie if the Avengers movie does gangbusters. Superman needs to be an iconic figure that inspires awe and commands respect -- particularly when leading the other major DC superheroes. NONE of these other fanboy suggestions fit that bill. Hamm, on the other hand, already plays Superman. Don Draper is Superman, Dick Whitman is Clark Kent. Plus, Hamm is not a movie star yet, and they can lock him into a 3 picture deal for a dirt cheap rate. People have been saying that Jon Hamm should play Superman ever since Mad Men went to air. There's a very good reason for that -- he's perfect to the letter for it.
-
Snyder just worked with Hamm for Sucker Punch. There's an existing relationship there.
-
Spot on.
-
I'd love it if David Goyer's script added Larry Niven's "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" concepts into the mix. I mean, in Superman Returns, Superman had a kid, no problem. However, the short story discusses the practical problems of such an act.
-

It's really not. Two completely different types of superheroes, one of which is primarily covered in robotic armor.

The perfect trilogy.
-
I'm sorry, I don't care if the non Smallville fans flame - the guy has given TEN YEARS to the role of Clark Kent in Smallville - it's by no means a perfect show (cough, Callum Blue, cough) but HE is definitely Superman, at least in my eyes. Brandon Routh is a walking 2x4 & CANNOT act. He's simply dreadful. If they don't give the gig to Welling then they'll have to pull a rabbit out their ass to get me to watch it. I really don't understand all these folk wanting that old smoking dude from Mad Men to be Superman either. You cast that old you ain't gonna get much of a franchise, are you? I bet Welling would happily go 3 films at least.
-
Let the epic battle scene commence!
-
They'll be straight to dvd though.
-
will it have heart and the right tone. We all know the fight scenes and trailer will be bad ass.
-
Perfect!!!!!!!!!! Fuck Shiteville .That plastic dead horse is beyond flogged , Welling is is a soap opera actor,.....John Hamm is THE ideal choice. reTARDIS is spot on with James Callis (Boltar) for Zod too , that would beyond amazing.....
-
Really? They make okay henchmen but you can hardly build an entire story around them without Lex. Zod is much greater threat because he has the same power as Superman without any of the morals.
-
I'll be in my bunk...
-
Stupid shit like a dude thinking a handgun will succeed where a mounted machine gun wouldn't against Kal all for the sake of some lameass slo-mo shot.
-
As long as it's not Lex Luthor!
-
That's debatable given we have never seen the guy in anything decently written.
-
THat went a long way in making Superman Returns suck.
-
Miscasting Lois made Superman Returns even shitier.
-
Hey....wait a minute...
-
Just as backlash against Superman returns.
-
I also want Seth Rogen for Jimmy Olsen.
-
We might even be sitting here discussing this flick if Schnieder hadn't been killed off on Smallville so it could keep in line with Returns. If he had stayed on, the show would've turned out so much better.
-
Is that a character on Space Ghost?
-
Why bringing a character made UBER-FAMOUS from the Richard Donner movie is beyond me. I thought they were done with that universe ? THE ELITE/Manchester Black as the villians PLEASE.
-
but John Hamm does have the idealized look of an Alex Ross painting. Personally that's how I choose to imagine Superman. Zod, I'm cool with, although Braniac would've been my first choice. Especially after seeing that kick-ass trailer for DCU Online. I don't think having Zod is re-hashing Donnar. However, If they keep the Superman theme and Zod then we might have a problem. Above all, I really want them to keep the theme music. Iconic, completely heroic and instanly recognizable as THE Superman theme.
-
http://tinyurl.com/2dnk7mq
-
It's as important to the character as the costume at this point, and it doesn't hurt that's it's arguably the greatest theme ever written.

Suoerman Returns was good, but this should be better
by HarryBlackPotter
Singers movie was too beholden to Donners original and the script was uneven and for a man who could fly faster than a speeding buller it moved too slowly. But it was still a fine movie and gorgeously shot. But kinda excited by a new take on the old boy scout.
-
...without it's theme would you? Nothing will live up to, or be good enough. Keep it. Shit, that was the only exciting point of Superman Returns, finally getting to hear that score being played in the theaters for the first time since I was a kid.
-
Superman IV.<br /><br />Doesn't that just depress the fuck out of people? <br /><br />Superman Returns was another Lex Luthor real-estate scam movie. And now they're going back to the well with General fucking Zod.<br /><br />In three or four years, I suppose they can CGI together a Richard Pryor avatar...

I would have thought Snyder and Nolan's sensibilities were polar opposite. I am now officially interested.
-
A Superman film to be produced by the director and writer of the first superhero film to take a billion at the box office and win an acting Oscar, which will be directed by a guy who actually pulled off what was thought to be impossible and filmed the 'unfilmable' Watchman... and you Fucktards are STILL complaining!!!! So should you wake up to find Claudia Shciffer sat on your face, Paz Vega licking your balls and Emma Watson riding your cock like she had a gun to her head... I'm willing to wager that you pricks would complain that it tickles!!!!!!!! No fucking hope or clue about anything is what you have gentlemen.
-
Would be funny with Rorschach in the movie and the guy who plays him. He could be kind of an interloper. with after credits stunt scene for the JL movie. green light appearing through the window. John Williams still going strong. Bring him back to score. He could add Harry Potter like music to add the "light touches" that Synder's weak on. Cameo by the Joker and Scarecrow too. They were visiting Metropolis.

It doesn't mean this will be a re-hash of Donner's Superman sequel. The Joker was in Burton's Batman and Nolan's. Two totally different movies.
-
Hell yes! I've loved ALL of Snyder's efforts so far ... well, ok, I only really liked Watchmen, but that's only because I wasn't a big Watchmen fan to begin with. As long and he can deliver the eye-pwnage EPIC visuals, breath-taking action sequences that only a superman can pull off, characters that we can actually care about (heart), stay true to its comic book roots, and deliver a great Superman story that can stand on its own w/o the Donner worship, this will be great ... though they can "steal" some of Zod's lines. ;) Casting the right actor for Superman and Zod will be key to this too. I feel sorry for Brandon Routh. He had the look and personality, but Singer made him seem so stale, 2D, and depressing. No Superman with angst please! in terms of the mood, definitely do not go the dark Batman route ... that simply is NOT Superman. Superman is supposed to be a idealistic, strong, and moral leader in a cynical, polarized, and compromised world. At least that's how I saw him in the comics. I'm a Nolan fan too so I have great faith in that the movie will have a great cast of ACTORS, won't suck, will have substance, and not be made for teenage girls. Can't wait!
-
Two great minds and they still feel the need to borrow from Donner ? Wow. Superman The Movie IS alive and well.
-
we better finally be getting an EPIC fight worthy of Superman, i mean something we would see in one of DC's animated shows with Supes and or villian being punched through buildings etc..
-
hmmm... uhh... err... (I got nothing).... wait. Oh yeah I've got one.. "I'm always around'. That's a line that he says to his out of wedlock kid.
-
I am now very interested in this film. Watchmen Directors cut is fuckin' superb. Snyder and Nolan working together is going to be very interesting!
-
John Williams can in fact make new fantastic ones.
-
ZACK THE FUCKING SHITTY HACK SNYDER??? THAT FUCKING PUSSY ASSHOLE???? This can't be true, this can'tbe true!!! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!<br><br>Why, Nolan? Why? Why have you forsaken us so? What the hell is wrong with you, man? Was Nolan replaced by a pod or soemthing? Zack the Fucking Hack Snyder? Fucking shit, man!! Fucking fucking shit! Motherfucker! Fuck! FUCK!! FUCK!! FUCK!!
-
So don't think Zod is the only baddie in this. They are keeping the identity a secret right now, and I predict it will be a popular villain from the comics. And also I feel they should go for depicting Superman/Clark as an older man who is experienced already as a superhero. It would set this movie apart from all the other comic book superhero movies that are emphasizing on rebooting things with a young cast (i.e. X-Men).
-
I'm not following you, man. We should be excited about this because one guy made a film that got a significant boost because of it's star's death? Also I most certainly WOULD NOT want Claudia sitting on my face. The chick probably STILL has Copperfield stank on her. I wouldn't want Emma in on that scenario either, dude. For one, she never really did anything for me, and after that Nanny McPhee flick!? No thanks, bro. Paz Vega though? Yes please.
-
It had such iconic imagery, explorations of the human condition (and Kryptonian!), and fully showed the magnitude of Superman's powers. <P>Not to mention the SPECTACULAR plane sequence.
-
Guess, he stood too nearby the incoming wormhole....
-
... total fucking shit fucking peice of hack "director". Really, what the fuck?<br><br>Dear ;r Christopher Nolan, it's still soon enough to corect the worst mystake in your whole career, the hiring of Zack Snyder as a director for this movie. I really hope he gets replaced in a hurry, like once MCG was for a previous superman movie project. Really, it's something i'll never understand, this constant hiring of hacks to make big important flagship movies, with some notable exceptions liek Nolan himself for the Batman movies. Really, talented directors actually work for this type of movies too, one doesn't need to be reduced to the miserable untalented fucking hacks like Zack The Hack Snyder. What piece of shit news this was. Most depressing. The movie is fucked, no matter who is producting or writing it. Nolan migth as well step down from producing and give it to Jerry Bruckheimer, for the hamr that is already done. Goyer migth as well give the writing job to Jar Jar Abrams and Porci and Klutzman, for the harm that's already done.<br><br>What a terrible way to start the day with such terrible news. I'm very disapointed!
-
Bring it on. I would have preferred another director, but Snyder knows how to make an entertaining film.
-
Why shall i have to cross the valley of the death and endure the inequity of untalented fuckign hacks for thy sake? It's fucking unfair, man! I have been such a support, and this is how you reward me? Dammit! Dammit! I'm still buying the INCEPTION DVD, though.
-
Yes please! How about action sequences similar to intensity of this trailer? http://tinyurl.com/2d4ov26 How about introducing Lex as a kingpin on the path to becoming a US President?
-
Should still be Zemeckis. Chris, do not read my previous post and follow Asimov's request.
-
Snyder does? Since his first movie, i haven't seen one single entertaiming movie from his. Where is this mythical entertaining movie made by Zack The Hack Snyder? Never seen it. Has he made any other movie besides DAWN OF TH DEAD, 300, WATCHMENT and SUCKER PUNCH that i'm not aware of? Frankly, how can anybody call being insulted like a retard with 300 and WATCHMEN be considered entertaiment?
-
Fucking Zemeckis? What, and turn the movie into a creepy cartoon with creepy dead eyed characters? Is that a solution? Chosing between zack The Hack Snyder and Robert The Hack Zemeckis is like having to chose between hell and hades, you still end up with a bad deal.
-
I'm glad that Christopher Nolan was finally able to acknowledge the lack of warmth and emotion in his films and chose a director for Superman who can bring emotion and character development to the Man of Steel.....Zach Snyder. <p> HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA! <p> You poor DC fans. You sad bastards have my sympathy. <p> I will not pay to see another Snyder movie, as he is a brainless twit. Style over substance personified. He's no better than Michael Bay. Nolan is a heartless filmmaker as well. And Goyer should not be let near comic book films again. WB must be really run by idiots.
-
But it's still fucking Zack the motherfucking fucking hack fuck Snyder! FUCKIGN SHIT, MAN! FUCKING FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCKING SHITTY FUCK!
-
Bob's reportedly moved on from the CGI-thing, and mentioned he would've liked a crack at the job.
-
Your comentaries about Nolan andcomparing him to Michelle Bay are idiotic. I'm sorr,y but they are. You cna't find harm in Nolan's movies? That's maybem, because, like, Nolan doesn't pull the sentimentaloid melodramatic bullshit crap designed to make bitches emote? Well, if you ask me, thank god for that. Soembody has to make more restrained movies that use easy emotionalisms to sell the movie to a crownd. and he's doing it quite well, considering the sucess of INCEPTION. Thank goodness not all filmmakers are making snetimentaloid bullshit. Bring them all those "cold" movies, bring them on!
-
Great! Now Bobby Zemeckis will direct a life action movie like it's a CGI cartoon. He can go fuck himself!
-
Most of the current movie-going audience, born in the 1980s or even early 1990s, have no idea who Zod is, nor do they care if he was in Superman II. Let go of your nostalgia for your idealized childhoods, friends. Seriously.
-
This means Snyder isn't gong to be available to fuck up any other properties I actually care about for a while!!

General Zod????? BORING!! BORING!! BORING!! SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
by JonChambers
-
Snyder gets one of the hottest gigs in hollywood. I'm intrigued to say the least. Haven't seen his Legend of the Guardians yet, but I really liked 300. Watchman was a little disappointing, if visually stunning. As long as he doesn't get the "Bourne" disease of filmimg everything in a shaky-cam style I'll be happy - slow mo? That's fine with me. As for Supes... well, am I the only one thinking Tom Welling? He's grown so much into the role in Smallville and he would be perfect. Only choice for me. Meanwhile, Erica Durance has created the best on screen portrayal of Lois Lane, so she too should not be overlooked. I doubt this will happen though, but nevertheless I can not wait to see Snyder/Nolan/Goyer's version of Superman to see the light of day!

WORST VILLAIN IMAGINABLE!!!! HORRIBLE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by JonChambers
-
Um, the complaints are mostly based on the overuse of the character rather than besmirchment.
-
No pisstaking, respect man. I'm curious to see how Snyder would do it as all I know of him is dark gloomy shit. I'm still standing by Welling though.
-
Yeah...well...that's just like your opinion, man.
-
Hell, there were people who thought zombieland was the sequel to adventureland. I like Welling, but unless they invest fully in the smallville universe (and I dont think they should), I want to see fresh faces all around.
-
Let's hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Carla Gugino as Lois Lane is actually a really great idea...
by BorisHumphrey
Smart, sexy, great actress. Perfect match for Hamm. FUCK Tom Welling and FUCK Smallville. If you cast Tom Welling as Superman, audiences will feel like they have to go and watch all two hundred seasons of that fuckin terrible show just to be in the loop. Every night, I thank the baby Jesus that geeks don't get to make decisions for movies, tv, comics, video games etc.
-
at the end of the day,its your beloved god Nolan that he chose to hire him to direct the movie.Sooooo your god has a different opinion on this matter.HA.
-
you know, in the story Goyer pitched to Nolan, that Nolan loved. So even though I'm not happy about Zod either, I bet the story is great... which means we'll see if Snyder is the real deal or just a glorified music video director lol. I understand why people are complaining about either the villain or the director or both. But yeah. At least Nolan is producing it, we'll get a new Superman movie that is well written and looks great, and hopefully doesn't suck like Watchmen or 300. Personally I'm supportive of Zack and hope this movie rocks.
-
Oct. 5, 2010, 4:14 a.m. CST
truthfully I wouldn't say 300 and Watchmen 'suck'
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
but they weren't that great, either. 300 was entertaining enough, I got pretty bored towards the end though. Watchmen was serviceable, it dragged a lot in parts but I left the theater partly satisfied. I absolutely love his style and art direction. the Sucker Punch trailer looks fucking bad ass.
-
1. Brandon Routh. A great Superman. Guy should be supes again. 2. The John Williams Superman theme. Though the theme shouldnt feature at the start. The theme should feature about 1 hour into the movie when Clark finally dons the cape...the first few tunes play out as the camera pans up over the "S" on his outfit...then a heroic shot looking upwards at Superman to have the score scream out DUN DA DUH~! that would rock the house.
-
and one more thing that it needs is:<br /> MORE COWBELLS !!!!!!!!!!
-
I kinda dug Watchmen, I mean visually it's great, but the story just didn't work as well as in the comics (I'm talking beyond the changes), and that can be attributed to several things. Like I said, I'm not exactly fond of some of the casting choices, but the real issue is Zack just IS NOT an actor's director. Too many scenes he just let the actors breeze through the lines without displaying an ounce of emotion, and it just felt hollow. Just take a look at the scene where The Comedian guns down his mistress in Vietnam. It's obvious he completely misread that from Jeffrey Dean Morgan's performance. Or that dinner between Laurie and Dan where they're reminiscing about their crime fighting past. You need someone that can guide their talent with dialogue that seems too fantastic, instead of just being satisfied they reciting their lines and hope the visuals will be good enough to get him by. Total style over substance. <br><br> I just hope, like some of us are worried about, that it'll be a slo-mo bluescreen-fest. I honestly don't mind the gloom, but I don't want it to dominate the film. <br><br> As far as Welling goes, he should have got it, but that was years ago. WB should've took more control in Smallville...at least to better it rather than place restrictions on it. They should've built this up and spun it off like TNG (though that's really not a good example because the TNG flicks blew). But what they did do with it was pretty brilliant. It's dvd returns help keep it on the air for ten seasons (as well as The WB and CW afloat) and kept the interest in Superman up for two films. Too much crap has happened with that show's continuity and villain usage to justify a spinoff and no amount of retconning or Infinite Crisising or whatever would fix that. And just bringing Welling over would be awkward. I still believe though, that they'll give him a dvd movie deal eventually, which is honestly better than nothing if you're a fan. <br><br> I know I'll buy them.
-
...but please don't make it fucking Jude Law.
-
...to the point it's kinda grating (which is a shame). Casting her as Lois might not be the best move.
-
Zod and Luther? They need to stop making these movies small...and yes..Superman Returns was SMALL. They need to think HUGE, make it with amazing special effects...Supes has to do more than LIFT things...he has to fight...he has to be challenged. For the love of god no more Lex Luthor PLEASE!
-
What is wrong with the studios? Why Zod? Zod was Superman 2? We have done Zod. We don't need another Zod movie! Awful awful decision. I still think Brandon Routh should continue...
-
...for the first time since it's midnight release, they really need to bring the classic yellow S on red cape back, Singer's shit was ugly. And for the love of god don't make the curl so fucking prominent this time around.
-
I actually find this news depressing. Snyder makes films that look like comics, but even less real. How he ever graduated from directing adverts amazes the shit out of me.
-
Oct. 5, 2010, 4:43 a.m. CST
Also, I just saw that Sucker Punch trailer for the first time.
by Shermdawg
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??? It's like someone sat a thirteen year old down and ask him to list everything he thought was cool and they just threw all of that shit in there regardless if it meshed and cranked the slo-mo machine fullblast. Jesus, man. It's getting really sad.
-
He hasn't made a perfect flick yet, but Synder has a great eye for stylized action and I'm sure Nolan will keep a close eye on things. I was a Superman freak as a kid, so I'm happy that this thing is finally getting some legs. Here's hoping...
-
Ooooooo..if Nolan felt there was mileage in retreading this character then colour me interested.<p>Zod in 'For Tomorrow' was kinda interesting, but this is Nolan people. NOLAN!<p>With him overseeing the exuberance of Snyder (who is always faithful to source material, I'll give him that) then this could be a blast!
-
and Nolan says STFU I do what I want, suck it bitches!
-
With fake Kahn like rubber prosthetic body for Zod!
-
That's who.
-
I wish.
-
And it being a crying one at that. I don't know what came over me.
-
1) Bryan Singer needs to be able to do a director's cut of his film-- the trip to Krypton (as I've heard it described) has to be in there. It sets up the entire mood of the film more than simple text could ever do. I'm convinced that if we saw that, Superman Returns would make so much more sense, emotionally. It makes the whole "I've been gone a long time..." aspect more powerful. 2) Snyder needs to keep very close to the original Williams score. 3) No slow-motion 4) Routh-- he was and is about as close as it comes to how we see Superman. Keep him. He was the best thing about "..Returns". 5) Snyder, make the action dynamic but let your actors ACT. Pay attention to them! Listen to the scene through headphones sans picture before you say you've got it. I wish you the best of luck.....
-
First - Bryan Singer's film was too much of a homage to the Donner movie. It was a bold attempt at reboot (like Star Trek) but didn't work in the end. Kudos for the bold attempt, though. However, in the light of that movie, I feel this should be a clean start. Second thought - although 300 was ultimately an idiotic film (a despotic state claiming it fought for 'freeeedom', with no ironic gloss from the director), I do think that Watchmen was really really good. It wasn't just a case of looking good - he got some fantastic performances and every scene counted. It's very difficult to take something like Iron Man 2 seriously having seen Watchmen and thought about what it has to say regarding superheroes.
-
...after as much as he talked about that ship sequence beforehand, he ended up cutting it. Also, if Routh does return (which I seriously doubt he will), he better bulk up a bit more. Between that unflattering suit and him all skinny, that was not the best look for Supes.
-
Should have gone with Scott but definitely no LEX.
-
Now kneel before Zod
-
this superman is going to have a bulging 6 pack
-
come on now seriously, who modern young actor has enough scenic gravitas and posture which will allow him to say that line without becoming cheesy and ridiculous?<br /> <p>Terence Stamp played his character with such seriousness, grandeur and arrogance that not only made him a very cool and memorable movie villain and Superman's enemy but also the definitive version of Zod,which has since then made a big comeback in the comics.<br /> <p>So if you are trying to find the perfect actor to play Superman, you might as well try and find the perfect actor to play ZOD.after all its the baddie that makes a movie more interesting, not the hero.right?
-
From MTV..."Last spring, during the previous who-will-play-the-superhero sweepstakes (this one was for Captain America), Hamm had this to say to MTV: “It’s a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they’re not flawed. Superman is Superman — he’s invincible, so where’s the drama?”
-
1) He looks the part. <P> 2) He can act. <P> 3 And this is the most important. If you want a big hit, a real cross demographic crowd pleaser like "Titanic" you need to bring in more than 14 year old boys. 14 year old boys are going to see a Superman movie regardless but, if you want people over 30 to go see your movie you need a star that isn't a 20 year old boy-man. <P> Reeve may have been 25 but, he seemed a bit older in the part. Trust me teenage girls will wet their panties over Hamm so will 60 year old women and all the ladies inbetween. <P> So please for the love of god no Jesse Eisenburg Superman, emo, girly man Superman.
-
Says "Winona Ryder's Pussy Juice" (and I'm giving him a compliment by making it possessive). If Routh isn't Superman in this one, and I believe, regardless of what we all thought of the film, he was the best thing about it. He deserves another chance. Agreed?
-
and No 'Kneel before Zod' especially. C'mon be creative people. Jeez.
-
Afterall, it's all about the script with Snyder: give him a decent script, he'll do decent movie, given that the themes aren't too complex for him to handle. As it was with the Wacthmen.
-
Sounds like my worst nightmare. I will say this, though: So far Snyder has impressed me. I thought 300 would suck, instead was an awesomely cheesy guilty pleasure. I thought Watchmen would suck. It didn't. I'm still not a fan of his style. His slo-mo combat porn fight scenes did not suit Watchmen at all. And he seems to have a thing for ridiculously elaborate softcore sex scenes. He's a fratboy director, just like Eli Roth and Guy Ritchie. Don't know if that's what Superman needs.
-
It could be as simple as Superman has a midlife crisis. <P> He has been protecting the Earth for twenty year from criminals, super-villains, space monsters and natural disasters (We're gonna need a montage). Yet things don't seem to be getting better they actually seem to be getting worse. <P> Superman begins to ask himself if he has really made a difference? He has sacrificed so much, he can't be with Lois, he can't have a family. He's tired and maybe wants to hang up the cape. Then the government asks him to do something questionable in the name of "National Security". Superman has enough and quits. <P> Zod shows up and offers himself as a "New Superman" to the government but, quickly turns the tables on his handlers and institutes a fascist reign of terror. Superman needs to put the cape back on to restore "Truth, Justice and the American Way".
-
Bring in Jonathan Nolan. For the love of God NO ZOD.
-
That guy is a truly dreadful director. When his best film is Dawn of the Dead, then you know this Superman hasn't a hope in hell. Anybody who rates Snyder knows nothing about film. FACT!
-
10 guys huh? Name them.
-
Is definitely built for the job, but he has a Seth Rogen-esque voice... But having a voice that doesn't match a strong body never stopped Ryan Reynolds... <P>I bet it will be down to Hammer and Padalecki, with Padalecki getting the advantage due to the fact that Sony is seemingly snatching up EVERYONE from "The Social Network" and putting them in other Sony properties.

zod being the main villain sounds like a rumor....
-
Exactly, everyone has a boner for Don Draper, but he's old. People on this site are so against 20 somethings, yet back in the day that's all that was cast. <P>And anyone saying, why are they thinking of a franchise instead of one movie, you just don't know Hollywood. Why invest 200 million to make a movie if there is no franchise potential attached. <P>Cast a late 20's, early 30's person who is over 6'3 and can act. <P>And if he is from the USA even better. Tired of Brits getting high profile roles in the USA and fucking it up.
-
Definetely not pulling a Marvel. Batman : Dark, Gritty Superhero realism. Green Lantern : Superhero space opera. SUPERMAN : Epic Superhero fantasy. No, these worlds do not collide because they want to get the character right first. I salute all the people involved in this wise choice of decisions. Now go scrap Zod.
-
I have a hard time believing this "Fresh Take" includes Zod. Unless Zod is the mastermind that unleashes/controls another villain.
-
This thing just gets worse and worse. Singer was getting pelters (and rightly so) for suggestions that he was going to use Zod in his sequel. <p> I know many think that the problems with the last Superman were because he wasn't punching robots into space, but my problems were with the characterisations. Superman was a peeping Tom with a bastard son; Lois was a nasty, spiteful woman; Lex was even more of a buffoon. It needed interesting, engaging characters and a hero who we could actually root for. I'm not sure if I'll get that in the new film either. <p> Asimov - I too am despondent over this choice of director. But considering that Nolan loves Michael Bay movies (I know, I know) perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised that he's gone for someone so bombastic when many fans are braying for spectacle? However, he has yet to make a bad film (although there's always a first time) so until Superman is released I'll just keep hoping that he's not dropped a clanger here. <p> Oh, and in what world did Watchmen make $250 million? It made $185 million on a budget of $130 million, but that's not including P&A, or the cut that had to go to Fox. The film was a bomb.
-
Couldn't agree more. This movie is going to tear the fucking ROOF of the HOUSE. Period.
-
I think that figure includes DVD Rental gross and DVD Sales.
-
As long as Superman isn't wearing maroon, things should be half-decent.
-
It was a "bomb". Not a huge one, but it was a gamble that didn't translate into huge gross. I didn't enjoy it because I had zero connection to the source material. BUT dammit it looked good. Snyder made a great looking movie for 130 million. To compare, Singer made X2 for 135 million and that movie had no real visual style. X2 was a bigger hit, but it was a sequel to a hit film based on a well known property.
-
Been there, Zod that. It will be hard for any Superman movie to come along and 'beat' Smallville after 10 seasons, especially as they dealt with Zod recently.
-
Snyder has style and the ability to shoot action in super slo-mo, but I just don't find any heart to his movies between the actors and the plot. DAMMIT! My only hope is that with Nolan and Goyer along for the ride that they can offset Snyder's weaknesses.
-
http://tinyurl.com/2wtqczq
-
He has forsaken me.
-
To everyone out there getting jumpy - just calm down. WB will always view Superman as a franchise, and this relaunch will be designed as the first in a new series. Zod is perfect for a first movie - not too out there, brings Krypton mythology with him, not as boring as Lex, and will almost certainly be an improvement on S2's campy version (though I love me some Terrence Stamp). Snyder has directed some of the best action scenes of the past 5 years, while Nolan has consistently delivered the most mentally engaging mainstream action films for about the past decade. I genuinely haven't seen a bum note in the planning so far (save perhaps for Goyer's involvement) - bring on the casting!
-
Nolan likes Bay's movies? Where's the proof of that?
-
But fucking Snyder? Hell no! Of all the people to be chosen, him? Jesus, who is holding somebody of Nolan's family in ransom? "Hire the hack or your mom gets it, Nolan!"
-
see ladies and gentlemen, thats what happens when you have an arrogant attitude of expressing your opinions as absolute truths and worshiping someone as a movie god, while trashing everyone else.<br /> <p>yep Asimov,i am talking about you.suck it now, your god approves of your hack.HA.
-
It goes against all logic, but it's blood true according to Wally Pfister! <p> http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/08/24/christopher-nolan-loves-watching-michael-bay-movies/ <p> “…there are the movies out there that he loves and I hate. I’m not a big Michael Bay fan. Chris loves Michael Bay’s movies. And so I’m always like come on, dude! But he sees something in it, and I don’t see it.” <p> We all have our guilty pleasures, I suppose. I love 'Last Action Hero'. But Bay and Nolan? Could you get more polarising filmmakers?
-
Superman NEEDS to retain that "Boy Scout" banner Batman pinned on him. Metropolis also needs to be brighter then say Gotham, but can still have a dark underbelly. Have Luthor involved, BUT PLEASE MAKE HIM THE MODERN INCARNATION. Make him the Billionaire Mogul of Metropolis. Another key is have Superman also FIGHT SOMETHING that isn't easy to defeat.
-
Look at it this way... who would have thought Peter Jackson would have delivered the LOTRs trilogy the way he did when they announced him as the director? I didn't.
-
Is that I think with Snyder, we will get a visually accurate depiction. The bad news..as noted in the article, we may not get the optimistic tone a Supes film should have. Also wish they'd consider giving us a villian we haven't seen on screen before, but if they get the costumes right I could live with it. Welling or Armie Hammer for supes.
-
http:// www.com
-
When director's like Uwe Boll exist I'll never know. Snyder's weaknesses still put him a cut above the rest. He's smarter than he looks. He just needs to cut down the slo mo but whatever its his signature style. I'll take it over shakey cam action any day.
-
The future of dc movies is riding on this one, it needs another dark knight...
-
Like some, i have no problem with a total reboot of the Superman sotry. i don't midnthat at all. Tell the origin story again, i'm totally and completly cool with that. While i might know more about superman then most of the so-called average audience, i don't know as much as the more ardent geekry, therefore, i have no bones with a origin story, i even welcomed it. I don't mind the reuse of General Zod. I even think that a reuse of Lex Luthor can be achieved. And who knows, bring some unused Superman villain in the movies.<br><br>So, no, i don't have a problem with many things about a Superman movie-to-be. What i have a problem is with FUCKING ZACK FUCKING HACK SNYDER! Fuck this shit, man!

I'm sooo tired of seeing them rehash the same villains over and over again. General Zod? Let's see, this will be the fourth time Hollywood has gone to General Zod in TV and Movies. Once with Christopher Reeves, Twice on Smallville, and this would be number four. It's the same thing with Lex Luthor. You would think that they are the only two villains in the DC universe when it comes to Superman. Hollywood proves yet again that it's lost its imagination, and brings us more of the same crap in a different bag. What about Darkseid? Mongul? Braniac? Metallo? There are so many truly epic villains that have never been touched and us DC Fans chomp at the bit for them --but this is apparently the best they have to offer.
-
HEAVENLY CREATURES was enough to make me realise that Peter Jackon could deliver the LOTR movies. What is it in fucking Zack The Fucking Hack Snyder that can convince you that he can direct traffic, much less a movie? When your best and smartest movie is the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, you are one serious fucking untalented hack.
-
Was as good as it was ever going to get. Its only ever going to be downhill from that movie. Still I love the big blue cheese and am glad to see some movement towards a new movie. I dont like this too-many-cooks vibe though, not one bit! Nolan dosent suit superman at all, his involvement will be minimal, trust me, it all a clever marketing scam WB are pulling to get the 30 somethings interest up. Nolan and Snyder are both directors at heart. Nolan is exec producer in name only he not going to interfere in snyders directing , and why would he? he has hardly any interest in the character of Superman to begin with.this is STUDIO MARKETING boys and girls, wake up and smell the bullshit people. <p> "Nolans Superman" give me a break! this is now Snyders Superman for good or for bad .grandpa Nolan will show up for a press piece here and there during the shooting but he will not change one directors decision Snyder makes!<P> Im hoping it will be good i really do , but 300 was really shite wasn't it? watchmen was a step in the right direction though, hummmmmmmmmmm
-
Sicne when liking LAST ACTION HERO is a guilty pleasure? That movie is genuinaly good. It's a good movie. no shame in liking that, man. What, you bought all that dogmatic bullshit about that movie? It's bullshit. The movie is good, really good, no shame in that, man.<br><br>I really can't udnerstand what Nolan could see in a Michelle Bayass movie. Maybe he's like Tarantino, in that, Tarantino watches this incredibly bad cheap movies and he ses stuff in them that he then reusees in his movies and look brillant. i don't know, i guess it takes a genious to see past the shit in a Bay movie... nah, it's jsut puzzlign. Makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Maybe Nolan just loves to upset Wally Pfister and he's pulling his leg.
-
Not every genius sits around all day watching Fellini movies and reading the wall street journal? We all just want some simple fun every now and then. Bay's loud distractions are not the worst movies I've ever seen. I give Uwe Boll that honor.
-
In what good direction was WATCHMEN for? That movie proved, again, what a clueless idiot that Zack The Fucking Hack Snyder is. The guy is pushing 40 and he has the mental process and the mental immaturity of a early teenager, not to mention the same crass ignroance. In fact, Zack The Fucking Hack is progressively getting worst with age, aand as each movie goes by. He's getting more and more infantille. I can't fucking believe that an adult was responsible for the fucking movies he made.
-
patrick wilson. snyder put him in watchmen and he played the perfect clark kent in that movie. i think he is the right age and has the right aura about him. good actor too.
-
Michey Bayass movies ARE THE WORST MOVIES EVER MADE! Bayass is Boll with a budget and a californian accent. That Bayass uses even bigger budgerts only makes his case even worst, because to fuck up so bad as he does while you have all the means and money in the world, it means you are completly untalented. Bayass is the worst director that ever lived. He's Ed Wood with a gigantic budget. The fucker is a nulity, he's a black hole of talent, he actually has NEGATIVE TALENT. He's the only director i really hate.
-
"How anyone can call Snyder a hack when director's like Uwe Boll exist"<br><br>Two wrongs do not make a right.
-
Please be a better script that 'Returns'. While Snyder will be cool, the script is what failed 'Returns'. Please just have a better script this time!
-
Somebody posted this on another site. Sounds good to me. A group of meta-humans calling themselves the Elite suddenly appear on the world scene and Superman doesn't like it. They are able to stop some heavy-duty terrorists, but not without killing them, and not without huge, and unnecessary, loss of civilian life. However, many people think that the Elite are the way forwards, the only way to deal with increasingly more dangerous evil-doers. Superman, however, resolutely refuses to kill. Eventually, they are headed on a collision course with Superman who disagrees with their method. All hell breaks loose as The Elite hails themselves as supreme savior of mankind.
-
are David Lynch and Michael Bay. And their favourite film maker is Stanley Kubrick. Weird.
-
Im just saying that Watchmen was better than 300, not that that wouldnt be hard in fairness!just saying that watchmen was 10x the movie 300 was , maybe Snyder has matured even more since then. maybe. i have a bad feeling regardless.
-
I liked Watchmen a lot.
-
The guy is perfect. 6'5, 200lbs, the perfect face and he can act, and he's young enough to do sequels, which is the problem with getting someone like Jon Hamm, good as he may be.
-
Yeah, I honestly think Last Action Hero is a good film - one almost ahead of its time with the use of meta. But to most people the film is disliked, so it kind of is regarded a guilty pleasure by most I speak with. But, hey, I like it which I why I mentioned it here. <p> Yeah, I don't know what Nolan sees in Bay's film (the fact he could see anything in that shaky cam mess is a miracle in itself). I didn't believe it when I first heard the rumour. Maybe he sometimes likes to kick back and watch brain dead rot to prevent his own from overheating? Or maybe he just likes the way Bay betrays all basic logic. It just doesn't seem right though looking at some of Nolan's favourite filmmakers: Kunrick, Mann, Ridley Scott, Roeg... Bay! It's one of life's great mysteries! <p> TheManWhoCan - I agree that Nolan probably won't do much heavy lifting on the film. How could he when his Batman film is due five months earlier? He might have some input into post-production, but all he'll have to work with is Snyder's material. This film is going to be more Snyder than Nolan for sure. For me that's not a good thing, but it probably is for the majority and the Box Office...
-
What the hell. I meant Kubrick obviously.
-
Nolan being producer horseshit??? I can see the poster now:"from the producer of the dark knight"<P> Then when the film bombs due to being shit the DVD/Bluray cover will say "from the director of 300 and Watchmen" instead! <P> Nolan probably has this condition in place before agreeing to lend his name to the studio illusion. That way he can take credit if it’s a critical and commercial success. And has the option distance himself from the home market sales if it’s a failure and most people will forget his “involvement”. <p> Nolan is not really producing this movie. search your feelings, you know this to be true!
-
ever written. <P>I'm the famous comedian, Arnold Braunschweiger!
-
British Screen Legend Sir Norman Wisdom died today and not one mention on this site!!
-
"Practice. John Practice!" <p> I might have to put Last Action Hero on now! The best £2.99 I've ever spent. Whatever happened to directors who could make good action films? Oh yeah, they're in jail like John McTiernan!
-
C'mon, do we really need General Zod? And please, stay away from Donner references.
-
If they kill the kid and the hubby, that would make me happy. After killing them, Zod whispers in supes ear: you owe me.
-
SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN 'THE DARK KNIGHT!!! Beaks, did you see "The Dark Knight?!" I don't know if you noticed or not, but the Joker was proven wrong. They didn't blow up the boat at the end. Either group - the rich snobs or the hardened criminals. I'm not sure how you parsed that ending, but that struck me as a pretty damn optimistic view of humanity. END OF SPOILERS.
-
Fucking Zod?! REALLY? Nobody else than ZOD?!
-
But it seems like he might be doing some time after all... <p> "John McTiernan has been handed a one-year sentence for committing perjury during the trial of P.I.-to-the-stars Anthony Pellicano. <p> During the investigation into Pellicano's nefarious dealings, it came to light that McTiernan hired him, paying $50,000 to wiretap "Rollerball" producer Charles Roven. McTiernan inititally lied to the FBI about his involvement. He ended up initially pleading guilty in 2007 and being sentenced to four months in prison. However, he withdrew his plea, was ordered to have a new trial and has now ended up being sentenced to one year. He's also been fined $100,000 and ordered to serve three years probation. He is currently out on bond and his lawyers plan to appeal."
-
It's become iconic and can't be topped. It's like fucking with the Star Wars theme.

Too much information. Not too long ago you didn't know anything about a movie until you read about it in Starlog or Fangoria 3 months before it came out. I remember seeing the trailer for "Return of the Jedi" and thinking to myself "cool, they are making another Star Wars movie". Now we know every detail about every project 2-3 years before it gets released and nerds and mouthbreathers everywhere waste time that could be better spent losing weight or making sex with real-life women (over 18) bitching and moaning about how their world will come crashing down if the movie doesn't meet or exceed expectations. Newsflash, assholes: MOST COMIC BOOK MOVIES ARE PIECES OF SHIT! They are made to sell toys and make children happy. Once every 5-10 years you get a "Superman II" or a "Dark Knight" but for the most part they are all "Barb Wire"s, "Tank Girl"s, and "Fantastic Four"s. Count your fucking stars that they aren't all treated with kid gloves and that studios spend money on this horseshit to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Superman movies. I got to grow up with the excitement of "Superman the Movie" and "Superman II" and the fun and campy black & white live-action Superman TV shows. I already lived through the hype of the best so I could care less if this was 3 hours of slo-mo Superman fighting hordes of zombies, Spartans, and a giant robot spider. Now turn off your computer, put down the pop-tarts, take a bath, and get a gym membership and make Superman proud.
-
As majestic as it is, they should compose something new. How many thought that Danny Elfman's Batman theme was irreplaceable? They should create something new. It might not be as iconic as Williams but it would probably suit the tone of the film better. They should force one on Snyder though because his favourite, Tyler Bates, is crap and a plagiarist.
-
Snyder has a very specific kind of style & attitude. even if it doesn't fully work it's probably going to be fascinating.
-
i like the Patrick Wilson suggestion too. he was great in "Watchmen". either guy would be interesting.
-
Watch that show, Superman Returns looks like Shakespear at times compared to that. I like the choice since its someone with experience in comic books. He also filmed the unfilmable graphic novel of all time and minus the ending, it was pretty spot on. Zod instead of Braniac is interesting, I would have preferred to see a new villain on screen instead of probably rehashing an old one.
-
Really bummed to hear this news. So not only is David Goyer writing the script (it should have been Jonathan Nolan instead -- Goyer is a terrible writer) but Snyder gets picked to direct? Snyder hasn't made a single film that I've liked and somehow he gets trusted with one of the most important comic book franchises in the history of film. Very sad.
-
Why Zod? WTF. I just got done saying how great it would be to have other stories to illustrate room in the mythos and we have to fucking retread. UGH. Yes, I am one of the few who hates Superman 2 ( hate the donner version far less though ) and I hate the character of Zod. If it's ONLY Zod and not his two other cohorts, then it might work.
-
New. New. New. Please.
-
great.
-
If you asked me to hum something from Baleman's flicks, I honestly couldn't do it. It wouldn't fit those films admittedly, but nothing as memorable has came from them as of yet. Superman NEEDS the theme though. Watching a new movie without it will feel just as strange as playing OoT and it lacking the Zelda theme. It could be amazing but there'd still be a feeling something important is missing in the experience.

by SuperWelling
and no one likes you u tool!

He's got the size, experience and personality for Supe'. Just give him a nose job.
-
Perfect!!! To those that grumble about these two being too dark for Supes remember that both have made probably the amongst the vey best adaptions of comic books over recent years & are obviously clear minded & intelligent enough individuals to know what Superman is all about. This movie now resides just a notch below Batman 3 on my anticipation meter!
-
God bless him but he's just TOO OLD. Superman should not be a fucking 40 year old for chrissakes
-
sigh
-
Not to be.
-
I am a huge superman fan and anyone that says he is lame or to powerful to be interesting has only seen the film versions of the character or watch one of the tv adaptions. There is more to the man of steel then super powers he a beacon of hope in a world filled with cynical bastards. I love the original film and II, and even the Donner cut. I liked superman returns. It was a good superman movie, it has it flaws. Not enough action, Miscast of Lois but it did alot of things right too. I like Zack he was not my first choice but it is still going to be exciting. Finally at least on the action front people will get to see why superman is the greatest of all hero's. I just hope he does not lose Superman's heart. because his heart is what really makes the character stand out above all the rest.
-
It can't be that hard to find an actor who is talented, and the right height, and the right look, and the right age.
-
he was the perfect clark kent in watchmen. i think he could also be the perfect superman.
-
but otherwise i think hed be a good fit. perhaps they will go with an unknown tho
-
stop talking about brandon routh. they are not going to bring him back. too many people have a bad after taste in their mouth after superman returns and bringing routh back won't help. somebody new is better
-
Come on--gimmie Darkseid, Metallo, The Parasite, and Brainiac.
-
He could definitely carry the giant S across his chest, which is the version we need now<P> http://tinyurl.com/2g2mhz4<P> Big nose, but so was Routh's.
-
The man has been Clark/Supes for 10 years now. Do you really think he wants to add another 10 years? I have nothing against him- he's done well on the small screen. I"m betting he wants a break, thinking he can do "other roles" and not be known only as the Small Screen Superman.
-
Just, because its New, doesn't mean its good. The Theme is as much a part of Superman as the suit. Pay the money and keep it, the new Batman films have a good score, but its not as good as Elfmen's score. Even the Animated series kept the score and it made the show.

40 is not to old for someone to be superman. He is superMAN for a reason. I am tired of superboy, Fuck Harrison Ford was 39 when he made the first Indiana Jones film. 40 is not to old.

Sincerely. I almost can't get over it. It's ruined my FUCKING day. Why does Superman get a Snyder not a Greengrass or even a Cuaron or Aranofsky? Why does Superman get a Goyer and not a Gilroy? In the 70s he got MARIO FUCKING PUZO. FUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKK. And why does Supes get a fucking Nolan fucking 'twist'? Did Guy Pearce actually kill his wife? Fuck me, I only guessed it within seconds. Is Leonardo awake or asleep? Who fucking cares, he's a shit character with a shit bearded babyface. This is all shit. Smallville has been a piece of shit for 10 years with a wooden lead, irritating as fuck sidekick chloe, and no ability to get it up. Bryan Singer chose Routh - is he even an actor? He stinks in everything he's in, he looks fucking dumb. Fuck all of this. Superman should not be getting fucked like this. And fuck you for liking Snyder's or Nolan's boring cold approach to filmmaking.
-
Darkseid is way too confusing for the general population, and handled poorly would look like a Power Rangers villain. Doomsday would work, but he's just very one dimensional, besides WB needs a good strong Superman film before they move forward with he inevitable "Death of Superman" storyline. Zod is a great choice, and the Nolan/Snyder combination is fantastic.

Just so you know Mario Puzo's script was trash they rewrote everything. Donner said it was alot like the batman TV show. Hell there was a scene in it with superman walking down the street meeting jack Bennie. Leslie Newman is the one who rewrote it with everything we know about it today. Puzo got the credit because it was in his contract.
-
Enjoy the trainwreck. I guess the only way to have fun at this shit is to marvel at the trainwreck that will be this movie. The enjoykent one can have at watching things going FUBAR very badly.
