Darkness falls across the land, The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is close at hand!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
When I was a kid you weren’t cool if you didn’t have the Thriller album. It’s funny today because the cover is as about manly and cool as a daisy, but it was a status symbol at the time.
Michael Jackson’s album is fantastic, but what really pushed it over for me personally was the great long, long video supporting the title song Thriller, itself a mini-horror movie starring Michael Jackson sporting the brilliant Rick Baker’s make-up.
John Landis directed the video at the height of his power, post American Werewolf and Blues Brothers and it has become iconic. There’s the playful tone, the iconic dance choreography, the instantly recognizable make-up and, of course, the great Vincent Price’s narration.
I wish more Halloween themed songs would be recorded. I love having something like Thriller that instantly puts me in the spooktacular spirit. That’s not a trend I see kept up much anymore. Time to bring it back!
I’m not exactly sure where this picture originates. There’s obviously a slight watermark on it, but I can’t make it out. If anybody knows, let me know and I’ll throw a link back to the original.
But here’s MJ, with the great contacts in, having a quiet moment with John Landis. I can almost hear Vincent Price’s maniacal laughter when I look at this image.

Thriller is a fantastic video, I watch it every Haloween sandwiched between two horror films, kinda like a Grindhouse thing I guess.. Watching this makes me wish Jackson had done more videos like this in his last year, apart from Rock My World there was nothing from the past 10 years that was cinematic (This Is It doesn't count!) MTV really needs to show videos again, it's becoming a forgotten art..

It irks me when people say there aren't anymore good videos. While they are few and far inbetween , they still exist. Even MJ couldn't ever top Thriller with all his subsequent attempts.<p> Last really great video I remember was Metallicas All Nightmare long. And over the years theres been some great stuff. PJ's Do the Evolution and those crazy claymated Tool videos,... I'm sure If I thought harder I could come up with more.

is on Youtube. Wish it were on DVD too, though. My favorite moment is when Landis is telling how Jackson first contacted him and he says something like, "Michael said I want it to be good, I want it to be, etc." and you just hear Michael in the background softly say, '... the best,' and you know he meant it. Something about that quiet creative determination that's awesome. If you haven't seen 'This is It', some of that same determination to do something better than anyone else and to want to truly and respectfully give the audience their money's worth is still there on display just before he died.

was a bit bit of an ego trip of a project but what I always liked about it was that it was accepted by black listeners. This song is one of his weakest and I do believe he made some great ones. The video is tediousl. And it had the unintended consequence of making formation dancing a staple of music videos and music performances. It's allowed singers who can't sing to distract an impressionable audience into thinking they have talent. I won't watch or listen to any artist that relies on formation dancing as a crutch.

It was strange. My mom was screaming for blood when he was acquitted back in... 05 was it? How he was a child abuser and he'd gotten away with it and he deserved to suffer. But the moment he died, she'd only talk about how great he was and how unfairly he was treated and so on. And yeah, it turns out the kid who made the accusations in 1993 made it up, but she didn't know that at the time of his death. It's funny how these things work.

So when I say I have nostalgic attachments to that album, it cannot be understated. Having said that, however, IMO Bad is the superior album - songwise anyway. Every single song could be a single (and nearly each one was). I still listen to Bad and it sounds fresh. I have to be in the right mood for Thriller these days. But, yeah, great pic. Very, very cool.

ANY one who puts a blanket judgment over people without putting their emotions aside and unbiasedly looking over all the facts (such as the other party admitting they were lying about the whole thing) is pro-Nazism. Sorry, but I can't abide people who follow hype blindly and then decree their judgments on others. And, I truly don't think you're an idiot; I mean that. But you need to tone down the blanket statements and maybe step down from the high horse you seem to be on.

I think I might agree with some others here in that the behind the scenes pics (though AWESOME) might be a bit too frequent. It's taking away from some of the excitement of it, IMO. Maybe space them out a little more? Might be better, and I think it'll help with the burnout factor. Just a thought.

MJ was without a doubt a pedophile. The question is whether he actually did anything unlawful. Being a pedophile isn't against the law. It's an inclination, sick and twisted as it is. The way he talked about children and his desire to share beds with them, it was obvious that he had a love for children that was clearly not the societal norm. It may not have even been a sexual thing. It was not proven that he ever acted on what could be dangerous desires. It may have only gone as far as snuggling with children. But by the definition of pedophile (fetishistic love of children), MJ sure fits it pretty darn well.

I had put my emotions aside and unbiasedly looked over the facts. I watched the trials, and have come to my own conclusions. I stand by what I say. And not many of us Jews are pro-Nazi, but thanks for jumping to the hysterical extreme to make a point. Oh and MJ was a pedo.

Jordan Chandler at no point has recanted his statement about being molested by Michael. One anonymous blogger posted it, and in the wake of Michael's death, the media grabbed a hold of it, some reporting it as genuine news, but he has, at no point, ever stated that he lied. PS-I loved Thriller (the album) back in the day, but my god that album has held up horribly. Other than the two hit singles (Beat It, Billie Jean) there isn't a thing left on that album worth listening. Born In The USA, Joshua Tree and So are just a few of the albums from the 80's that hold up significantly better over time.

Always have been, always will be. I never stopped supporting him and didn't believe the BS spread about him for YEARS. I bought albums like History In The Mix, Invincible, The Ultimate Collection and Number Ones (CD & DVD) etc when even the casual MJ fan turned their backs on him. Tons of hypocrites who now supposedly like MJ. The man did We Are The World and is supposed to be an alleged pedophile? WTF??? How quickly people forget! I've read a ton on this shit and everything in both cases (the first accusation and the 2nd one with the trial) and both were money hungry jerks. The father in the first accusation KILLED HIMSELF after MJ died and the son that was forced to lie about MJ admitted his dad made him lie. How come we don't hear about that so much? If I had any little doubt on MJ's innocence I couldn't back him even if I liked his music. And if MJ was a pedophile he would have targeted his own kids. Yet they love him and no sign whatsoever that he did anything but be the best father they could have.
