Batman!! Jonathan Nolan Has Written A Script And Christopher Nolan Was Adjusting It Yesterday!!

I am – Hercules!!
Empire Online asked “Dark Knight” writer-director Christopher Nolan what he was doing when it phoned him on Wednesday. He said he was working on his brother Jonathan’s script for the next “Batman” movie.
The script exists. Which suggests villains have been chosen.
(Nolan long ago said The Joker won’t be back for the next one, and neither will Victor Fries.)
And does it mean anything that “Batman Begins” co-scripter David Goyer (“Jumper,” “The Unborn,” “FlashForward”) isn’t mentioned?
(Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote "Dark Knight," very recently landed a deal to write a new crime series pilot for CBS and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.)
Empire also asked if it was safe to assume he was directing the next Batman. "I think you can at this point, yes," Christopher Nolan told the site.
Warner Bros. intends to release the next Batman movie July 20, 2012.
Thanks to “ag 721” for the heads up. Find all of Empire’s story on the matter here.

The Boy Wonder would be a great addition. Seriously.
-
Every talkback has someone - okay, a million someones - exclaiming, "The Riddler should be like ZODIAC, blah blah blah". Enough. Yes, it's a good idea. It's also no longer original because it's mentioned a million times in every talkback and will now be called "predictable". Just shush.
-
Or is this news several days old?
-
From what I hear he's the one responsible for the other films lamer qualities. Looking forward to this.

lame boring adversary<p> I'd go with Bane along the lines in the comics, not the stupid portrayal from that movie<p> A physical challenge the likes he's never faced before
-
not associated with this production in any way. <br> I'm wondering how long before the rogues' gallery is leaked...
-
wouldn't work, cause Riddler doesn't kill. If they were to use him, I think it would be neat for him to rise to a form of celebrity BECAUSE of his crimes, and the outwitting of Batman. You could play up the fact that people now hate Batman because of the end of DK, and he's upset because he's trying to show Riddler for what he is. It could be a great character study of Edward Nigma and Bruce Wayne...and ol Bats would have more detecting to do, which I always enjoy. But making Riddler a killer would be a false move. He's always been about outsmarting people, and basking in the glow of that accomplishment. I just hope whatever they do will be worthwhile and entertaining.
-
I've said before that I'm trepedatious about Nolan approaching Catwoman because he doesn't seem to have any kind of sexual energy or chemistry in his films (not a criticism - I'm a Nolan fan - just an observation). But if he cast Marion Cotillard as Catwoman, it might just work.
-
Riddler/Catwoman with a Bane arc that can be carried over into the 4th film. Perhaps Killer Croc in a realistic fashion, and Bane shares the same venomous type of drug/procedure. Hey, a Dick Grayson arc too!
-
Movies lately have been rather on the poo-poo side. Something to get excited about and this Capitan America shit has got to stop.

show the PUBLIC what Riddler really is. Going on about four hours sleep in two days, so my typing is a bit sucky right now. heh.

There is not a talk back on the net that doesn't delete posts or ban individuals from time to time. The truth is that the 10 year olds who want to disrupt this sites posts know nothing of what free speech means or what a Nazi is. Time to go downstairs, little boys... mommas got your poptarts all warmed up for you. Oh, yes... if you don't like the site, don't come back. Having a choice means having a life.
-
Zombies are IN. Come on Nolan, do it.
-
We've had her in mind for awhile now, It's not official but I can't see why it wouldn't happen. This script was surprisongly easy to come up with, we worried that it would be impossible to top TDK, but once we hooked onto a macguffin the script poured out like water
-
After all, Nolan would never go Jim Carey green suit question mark version on us. Would be cool to see a much darker version. Whatever it is....please no Cat Women...I just cannot picture that being anything but terrible.
-
He would fit best in Nolans universe and I would like to see Nolans take on him. Riddler has always been a low rent Joker.
-
Like anybody cares.
-
I hate stumbling upon ol JettL and wondering what other hilarious bullshit has spewed from his mouth that I've missed.
-
I'll be happy. Don't introduce any villians we haven't seen before, just keep returning to the riddler, or the penguin, catwoman, or, if we're lucky, poison ivy and the iceman. Fuck, just bring back the people who played them previously, too. Motherfucking Danny DeVito in the house, y'alllll!!
-
Imagine a sophisticated arms dealer who speacializes in new technology weapons. This would make a great compliment to the gadgets that Bruce Wayne already has.
-
TOO SIMILAR TO THE JOKER.
-
The very premise of remaking a remake of BATMAN the movie puts you on the island REHASH.
-
Yeah, I'll bet the house that she's in this one. Closer to the Batman: Year One storyline--- a hardened, realistic S&M Selena Kyle.
-
Duality is the theme of the trilogy. Stick with it.

Sounds like high schoolers in love.

This is going to be purely a Nolans Bros production? In that case its going to be even more FREAKIN' AWESOME.<P>Now can the Nolans finally break the curse of the disappointing third installment - ROTJ, Alien 3, Godfather 3, Terminator 3, Last Crusade etc etc - can they make this third film of their trilogy as good as TDK? And thus complete THE GREATEST TRILOGY IN HISTORY? If anyone can, the Nolans can.
-
THE RIDDLER TO DO IN THE SEQUEL. HE LEFT CLUES AS TO WHO HE WAS GOING TO KILL NEXT. IT JUST WOULDN'T BE AS UNIQUE AND INTERESTING AS THE PENGUIN, OR EVEN BETTER YET, AN UNEXPECTED VILLIAN WE HAVENT SEEN ON THE BIG SCREEN YET.....
-
beside the point in its own right. They could work to me but its all dependent on which way the story rolls. Like, the combination of both could work in the context of a "long Halloween" (minus lame ass calender man of course)Catwoman by herself is inherently 1 dimensional.
-
I had the same thought. That's why I'm hoping for Catwoman. She's different. And, much as I adore Julie Newmar, I don't think she's been yet fully utilized.

dark aristocracy and politics fit Nolans sensibilities best

Why are the numbers on the mugshot from LOST?
by SierraTangoFoxtrotUniform
-
Since the release date is not that far away then casting announcements are probably close. Which means we'll know the villains pretty soon. How can it be anything but Catwoman and The Penguin? There has to be a love interest in a $200 million dollar summer tentpole. And every other villain left really wouldn't fit in Nolan's Batman universe besides those two, they can be done realistically. Catwoman = a cat burglar and The Penguin = an arms dealer/gangster.
-
Women who sleep on stomach have crack up
-
I have a friend who heard some talk from Nolan. He says The Riddler as a human doesn't actually exist, Nolan said he would add a few charaters into the story that could be played by various A-List actors, such as Pearce and Depp plus the guy from the last movie to put Batman in a loop on who this Riddler guy is, sending riddles to the press and the police before explosions and robberies. All the while the Riddler is actually a crime organization led by the Penguin. Catwoman is there too as she is going a whole different route.
-
Google him, he'd be perfect for a crime boss - good actor, would give the character some much needed legitimacy!
-
Christian Bale hitting a woman on the bigscreen? Please. Besides, they jumped the shark with the Catwoman movie. No way they're going to attempt to reboot Catwoman in the current Batman franchise. I will eat my words if eventually proven otherwise.
-
Yeah, I know Harvey Dent is dead and won't be coming back. Too bad. Before DK came out I kind of thought that Two Face would be introduced and be the villain in the next movie. <br><br> As much as people focus on the Joker from TDK you must remember that this was also the story of Two Face. He is one of the greatest Batman villains next to Joker. TDK was the Two Face story I had always hoped for once his character was trashed in BF.<br><br> I can see the concern about Riddler being too close to the Joker. Problem is - I don't see how a Catwoman or Penguin character would fit in the Nolanverse and how they could even top the villains in TDK.<br><br> I would actually like to see Clayface but that wouldn't be a good fit either.
-
The problem with Black Mask is that he's too aesthetically similar to the Red Skull and since Captain America is coming out a summer before this, general audiences might get put off by seeing a similiar looking villain.
-
I too thought Catwoman should be in this movie, I think everyone cool agrees on that
-
into the batmans files while hacking wayne corp. she is to be very young and not Bruce's or Batman's love interest.
-
After Hitgirl, I think going the Robin route, with a young kid in a Bruce Wayne situation, takes out his parents' killers and is recruited/adopted by Bruce Wayne after Batman sees it happen.
-
I have doubts... I certainly have never seen it, although I haven't seen Inception yet. Nolan seems to only do stories about obsessed guys. I don't know that he'd be able to do Catwoman justice.
-
More unneccessary verbose scenes, little character development--if any, a overbloated self-important plot, more poor story editing, and more badly shot fight choreography. Oh, and this will lead to more Nolan apologists popping-up...when the film comes-out, and gets rightly criticized for its inevitable flaws.
-
It wouldn't be one of my and Chris' scripts without a few flashbacks
-
if they really get into the head of the character. I think the right actor could pull off the Riddler if he has right kind of "controlled crazy" that makes him terrifying. The Joker was insane, but very calculating. I think the Riddler needs to be a cross between Brad Pitt's character in 12 Monkeys and Jigsaw from the Saw movies.
-
That was incredibly scatter-brained. What I meant was, in the comics, Robin is always a kid. Hitgirl and the recent Karate Kid justify, to me, bringing in the sidekick in the Nolan world. Also, keep in mind everybody, Nolan has always said this one will be the end of a trilogy.
-
This needs to happen now. :(
-
would be nice... even a teeny, tiny one. If not, I think Catwoman would work.

A murder, who wants to die, who wants to force Batman to break as the Joker says, "his one rule".
-
What with the success of the first two parts of a supposed trilogy, part of me wonders if they were ever tempted to eschew the superhero sequel formula of gradually going down the rogues gallery, extravagant costume by extravagant costume, and coming up with a new villain altogether.<br /> <br /> As in, adapting the core origins, then doing their installment of the vintage Batman mythos, then as a crescendo perhaps playing with something more original for the third installment. If not a new villain necessarily, then somehow more playing with audience's expectations in some fundamental way. Like a cinematic hop, skip and a jump. Especially if this indeed a final installment of this telling of this Batman incarnation's story.<br /> <br /> But reading of Nolan's respect for the original qualities of the characters, the fan's wishes and DC's vested interest, I doubt they would be that radical.<br /> <br /> Must be tempting, as storytellers, though.
-
..On the mugshot. Please tell me I'm not going insane. LOST gone has me so

Ice to see you Batman Time for an ice age Get to the chopper :P
-
Bruce can explore a bisexual sadomasochist side of vigilantism amidst the conflict of having to choose between the voluptuous dominatrix Selena Kyle or the precocious acrobat Dick Grayson. Am I reading too much into it?
-
Why can't she just be a vicious don't-fuck-with-me borderline psychotic? If Nolan does use Catwoman (I think its a certainty) he won't go the sex kitten route. He'll give us a Catwoman who you will believe can bite your dick off if you mess with her.
-
Only because Rachel is dead, and you can't have a four quadrant summer blockbuster without some sort of engaging love interest. And catwoman gives the opportunity for a huge actress to step in, and provides the moral ambiguity storywise and lovewise that Nolans batmanverse is all about. I just hope they play it so they both know who one another is the whole time, behind the mask. Make it really interesting. And batman loves a thief, but in the end shell help him out with the real baddie
-
Rumour has it, that is the title? So i've heard, or it could be bullshit?
-
Especially with Dawes out of the way, I think having Catwoman in this would be an interesting way to play on Batman's feelings/struggles. However, I don't think she should be the MAIN villain. They should bring in a new character, like blackmask or something. Also, I really think they should at LEAST have some sort of Joker cameo. Not having him in this WHATSOEVER would just feel kind of odd. Have him breaking out of Arkham at the end or something. It would be just stupid to completely not mention him at all.
-
If Catwoman isnt sexy, then I'm not a wandering swordsman!
-
And Mickey Rourke or Stallone will be Deadshot, and Daniel Day Lewis is Slade Wilson.

You sir, you get it.

-
That is Harley Quinn from the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm animated series and their graphic novel Mad Love. And this would be an inspired choice, but I don't think that either Nolan is suited to the cutesy/criminal dichotomy of the character
-
You couldn't do Harley without showing Joker at all... it would just be wrong.
-
Can't

They should go with Zsasz, even if he is only in it for a little while.

I thought Nolan already confirmed no Robin in this series?
by Sardonic
It's a good thing in my opinion. And I agree with the others, I'd bet money we'll be seeing Catwoman. Killing off Dawes is just too obvious of a set up.
-
But it can work - look to Loeb's "Dark Victory" among other tales. But if he passes on Robin, fine. I'm up for any possible villains. On an appropriate side note, I think the idea of a Superman film where he's the only hero in that "world" isn't all the important as part of theme. But Nolan shall do what he does, of course.
-
Beantown is killin it in regards to crime dramas. Get Matt Damon and some Wahlbergs to play bigoted Southie holligan bank robbers who kidnap the mayor's daughter and blame it on the coloreds. " Thayas a bat-dressin quee-ah droivin a kah that luks like Goed-damm tank facken-up thu oeperayshen!!"
-
There is a bald guy in either Batman Begins or Dark Knight that is supposed to be Zasz, he is called be name at least once. I don't think I noticed him to be covered in scars though. I thought the inclusion was a cruel tease, and probably a surefire sign he will not be a main villian. I think he would be perfect for the Nolanverse, but perhaps too dark for mainstream audiences.
-
How about we bring D.Vader back and ban JettL1993?
-
a time that i didnt want him to be connected in any way in comic-book movies again, especially after the Blade3 debacle. But i have eventually come to conclusion, that although TDK is a great movie,it is very flawed and most importantly it doesnt have that kind of cartoonish/comic fun that BB,Blade,SM and a lot of other comic movies had. <P>And Goyer is the one responsible for the fun factor in BB.I dont know how deep was his involvement in TDK,(he did got script credits) BUT if Nolan is making the movie without his input, and considering his cold, emotionless style of direction,i am afraid that B3 is going to be even a lot more duller than TDK was as super-heroic fun goes. <p>And even the hottest Catwoman in the world is not going to make the movie more exciting if Nolan is not going to sex-up the movie a lot, like Burton did with Batman Returns. <p>oh and Nolanoids yeah i am a Nolan hater,a Batman hater,an Inception hater,a Superman hater, whatever.fuck off.

NOLAN CONTINUES TO RIP OFF BURTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Illuminate
I have zero respect for Christopher Nolan. All the cool ideas in the Dark Knight and Batman Begins where never on the big or small screen until Tim Burton did them FIRST. Micheal Keaton had the deep sounding voice whenever he was in the bat suit. There is also that muscle suit THAT NO SUPERHERO HAD UNTIL BURTON AND HIS TEAM. The examples go on and on. Or actually giving the joker a real physical smile from a scar like on Jack Nicholson. Christopher Nolan ripped off the Tim Burton films and the only thing he did different was get rid of the Gothic look in the city background. The Dark Knight is over rated and the only reason it did as well is because of the unfortunate death of Ledger who did do a great job as the Joker (rest in peace my friend). Oh, and anyone who likes the bat pod has no taste, it looks like a fucking brick tank. I'll take Burton's batmobile over that shit any day of the week. Those who like the batmobile from Nolan's movies would choose a mac truck over a Porsche. Because an over sized square mac truck is what the new batmobile is like. There's is nothing wrong with Nolan ripping off Burton and his production team, however at least Bryan Singer paid fucking respect to Richard Donner. Nolan's piece of shit brother tried to pull that shit on Terminator Salvation, however James Cameron is a little more popular than Burton and Cameron's fans weren't having the no respect thing go down. I will watch Batman 89 in the future more times than I will watch the over rated and watered down Tim Burton movie's called Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. If you want a truly dark and great movie that is not just a copy, than Batman Returns is much better.

He is sent to Arkham Asylum, but escapes during Ra's al Ghul's attack on Gotham, and nearly attacks Rachel. that good is to get very cutthroat. Imagine the best killers from around the world coming to Gotham for open season with the problem being that if they succeed, Gotham is worse off than ever.
-
am i wrong?
-
kind of a Dog Day Afternoon thing...
-
To my mind, that's always been the standard by which a sequel needs to be judged. Is it as good as, or better than its predecessor? Is the Godfather II as good or better than the Godfather? Yes. Is the Godfather III as good or better than the Godfather II? I think we all know the answer to that. The question IS: can even a filmmaker of such exceptional talents as Christopher Nolan even hope to come close to making a movie that's either as good or, dare we hope, better than the Dark Knight? There's a lot of reasons the Dark Knight became the movie it did, the most obvious of which was Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker. That Dark Knight was lightning in a bottle, and more often than not when Hollywood, when ANYONE in Hollywood tries to catch lightning in a bottle twice, the result is a dismal failure. Better they just let the Dark Knight stand as the greatest comic book movie of all time, if not one of the greatest movies of this decade than sully it with a dismal follow up. Wouldn't we all have been happier if the last time we saw Indiana Jones was when he was riding off into the sunset with his dad, Sallah, and Marcus instead of having to endure Shia swinging through the trees with the monkeys? But of course, when has anyone in Hollywood ever just let something be...
-
killing off Rachel in the last film was for one reason and one reason only. to kill the last hope for normal happiness for Bruce. yeah, it tipped Harvey over the edge too, but it was really meant to be the end of Bruce Wayne as a normal person. so, que up catwoman cause even if he can't be happy Batman still gets horny... i mean, lonely.
-
The last I checked Alice in Wonderland from a few months ago broke the top ten movies of all time. Your an idiot. Oh, and the sun is fucking yellow, dumb ass.
-
As an exercise I wrote a sequel to "The Dark Knight" that begins by showing what happened to Coleman Reese, the man who went on television to tell the world who Batman is until the Joker told the city to kill him. Find it here: http://tinyurl.com/378ew9n Your thoughts and opinions are welcomed.
-
By the way, Diora Baird for Catwoman!
-
Norton has said he'd do Batman 3 if asked. All Nolan has to do is offer it to him. Norton as Riddler would be cool as fuck.
-
1) Catwoman - Herc is right. Though I love Michelle Pfieffer, Catwoman's never been properly represented as the thrillseeking cat burglar that she is. Also, with Rachel dead (boo fucking hoo), there needs to be a new love interest. The studios make take some convincing on this. But she wouldn't work as the only villian. She should be a peripheral threat (like they did Scarecrow). 2) Riddler - He's not the damn Joker in the hands of a capable writer. He's a testament to the ever-escalating freak kingdom that is Gotham. Joker was all about chaos and carnage. Riddler is about proving he's smarter than everybody. 3) Black Mask - eh. He's not really that interesting. Especially after the Joker. If you go with the post-mask burned version, isn't he a little too much like Dent in TDK? 4) Two Face - I just don't want to believe they wasted all that potential and that he's really dead. Plus there was just a little too much ambiguity at the end there. 5) Bane - He's a lot smarter than given credit for. I could see him coming to collect the bounty that's on Batman's head. 6) Poison Ivy - Nolan would tone down her powers and play up the ecoterrorist angle. But it she still may be too sci-fi for him. 7) Penguin - I could've sworn Nolan ridiculed that idea before. 8) Hush - I doubt it. Probably too new-school. I would like to see him in a movie though.
-
Don't tell me you fucks wouldn't have a raging hard on over that. I already have one just thinking about it.
-
for a Nolan film, it's all organized crime but involes Batman, Huntress, Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, Batgirl so we'll never see it
-
Begins was awesome though.
-
and re-write it to fit the Nolan universe without going far from the source material.
-
Marion Cotillard would be spot on because if Catwoman is written in a complex fashion then she is talented enough to portray her as well as being incredibly beautiful.
-
I realize no one here would agree with me on that.
-
The guy who plays Arnold Rothstein on Boardwalk Empire. Or is that too similar a character? He evokes just enough of the Frank Gorshin vibe. I hated Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Robin Williams would be awful in the role.
-
and we know Nolan loves working with Brits
-
I'm with you on Carla Gugino. I fucked this girl a year ago and pretended she was Carla Gugino while I was shooting my cum up her asshole. She would make a great Black Cat.
-
I meant Catwoman. lol
-
What if he's fighting a gang, like the mutants in TDK? Or maybe the whole movie is just him kicking ass and solving mysteries of all the other Arkham escapees? Or maybe something bigger, like a terrorist attack he has to stop? I trust the Nolans to think outside the box on this one. Catwoman blows.

Not only is Christopher Nolan a copycat who ripped off Burton. He cast a dick shrinker as Rachel in the Dark Knight. It's obvious that Nolan is going home and sucking on some male-hooker's dick. There is nothing wrong with being gay. At least Brian Singer admits he's a fudge packer and I respect the man for it. I hope there is a hot babe with tits, ass and a face that won't make me vomit in part 3. But, knowing Nolan...
-
Why can't Catwoman be a little bit older. She has a body that makes 99% of 20 year olds look like nothing. She is not exactly a grandma.
-
due to his busy schedule we had to quickly shoot it over a year ago. It's only a bit part and could wind up cut out of the final film, but we did do 2 days of shooting
-
Illuminate, you useless fuck, get the hell out of our constructive Batman discussion. Take Media M with you and jerk each other off.<br><br> Looking at Batman's rouge's gallery it looks like the only ones that would work are Riddler, Penguin or Catwoman. Unfortunately I don't know how any of these can top Joker/Two Face.
-
is being sought for the Penguin role.
-
I love Monica Belluci and I've probably squeezed off some jizz for her in the past. But, her ass is to big to be swinging on rooftops. It's a good idea that is in the right direction. When others mentioned Olivia Wilde and Kate Beckinsale who are to flat chested chicks than I cringed. Catwoman needs tits to match that famous wanted poster. Tits that you can squeeze around your cock and then shoot your load on her face kind of gigantic tits. : )
-
Gemma Arterton for Talia
-
But you sure do get a good talkback happening when Nolan's Batman is involved. There have been some interesting ideas thrown out. I like the one about The Riddler being the crime syndicate itself and The Penguin being the boss. Or Bounty Hunters! Personally, fuck Catwoman. Especially if they try and go A-list like Angelina jolie. I will vomit in raGE if that happens. Casting Marion Collitard is the best way for that to work.

Monica Belluci is PEREFECT for Catwoman!!! Good call!
-
I'm sorry if talking about hot women bother's you. I know you miss the bat nipples from Joel Schumacher movies.
-
Been harpin on it, make it happen.
-
the guy shot his load with "memento". everything since has been garbage. bye.
-
I have heard that Burton is a prick, but so are a lot of directors. I give credit where credit is due and Batman 89 changed everything.
-
Too fucking old, and I don't want to hear her speak with an American accent, or Catwoman with an Italian accent.
-
Is how they set up the transition from the old mob Gotham to the new Joker crazy version. Now the crazies can come outta the woodwork. You can open the film with Batman taking down a random villain just for cameo purposes. Say a big opening action fight sequence and after that we cut to him entering the newly built batcave and drops a puppet on the ground...he looks at Alfred and comments that this one carried a dummy. Great way to incorporate lesser villains and also show us that after The Joker Gotham is open for business with the loonies.
-
There's your villain. Wait, why use a Batman villain when you have Beaks?
-
that could've been funnier if Beaks or Harry was playing that part or jesus I'm drunk
-
and it's because Bruce Wayne decided to dress up like a bat.<P> Dark Knight starts with a clown bank heist and Scarecrow and other Arkham inmates on the loose and wannabes dressing up like Batman

Who cares about age as long as HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Illuminate
I think they should go with an older woman for Catwoman. When I was back in college the best blow job I ever got was from some college guy's mom. She is a model and actress so she wasn't exactly ugly. Older women know how to fuck like wild women when younger chicks just lay there like they are god's gift to men. Why do you all think they coined the term MILF. I think that Carla Gugino is the best one for the part.
-
three words sasha... baron... cohen<P>His range is amazing and he just sunk into the role during the audition, Everyone in the room was just wowed
-
it fucked up several major points. 1.) Obvious soundstage. Gotham is a character unto itself, it musn't look fake... 2.) Batman killing. Just, no. 3.) Joker origin. Sure, even Alan Moore fooled with the idea, but to clearly define Joker as a person with a social security number just takes half the fun away. 3.) Joker dying. But he got a lot of the fun stuff correct. He definitely wins the best bat-vehicles/bat-gadjets prize for the entire film franchise. Nolan's batverse is a little off, too, but in less so, and in less sacreligious ways. Obviously Gotham should not look like Chicago. The horrible tank. That's the worst of it.
-
Google Carla Gugino's photos nude photos from Sin City and I bet you will be shooting your load in a flash. She is that hot and hasn't been in the spotlight since then which is bullshit. She went nude when that brat Jessica Alba kept her clothes on. That says that Gugino is a serious actress who does justice to a part.
-
Nolan will probably have that dwarf Juno as Catwoman, since he use the same cast in all his flicks.
-
I'd love to see Jeffrey Combs as The Riddler, but it'd never happen.
-
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA classic. Keep drinking buddy!
-
She has a grief appearance in TDK, right? I would say either Bat Girl or Robin will make it into the next film, if only to help in the redemption of Batman.
-
I believe David Goyer and Christopher Nolan are listed for story credit and Jonathan and Christopher Nolan are listed for writing credit, as it was the same for TDK. <br><br>While on BB, Goyer got story and writing credit while Chris Nolan was listed as co-writer.
-
she can play sexy AND psychotic.
-
All good points. Plus as good as Nicholson's performance is in Batman, its just too much of a campy Joker for my liking. BB totally had more of a Gotham feel than TDK and yeah the Tumbler is pretty fucked. Burton is still a piece of shit. Alice in Wonderland indeed.
-
Problem is, as much as I would love to see a Catwoman story in this Batman, I don't feel like Christian Bale is capable of having chemistry with anything.<p>Catwoman and Batman spark. I thought Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Keaton were great together in RETURNS.
-
Google him. He was born to be the Penguin in a Nolan Batman movie.
-
detective work, more love story preferably with a female villain, better action,LESS SOCIAL EXPERIMENTS FFS.
-
Yeah Bale isn't the most romantic actor in the world. Doesn't mean it can't be done though. Bale IS the Batman of the comics, and in the comics Batman just kind of stands there while Catwoman circles and makes passes at him... so in that regard it could work.
-
I actually like the fact that Batman kills in part one and returns. He avoids it mostly but he is prepared to do it cuz lets face it, even he doesn't know how a situation is going to escalate. It's funny in Batman Begins Wayne refuses to execute a criminal before the League of Shadows, so he blows up everyone in the building which probably included that prisoner. Then he later uses a gun on a criminal and shoots him in the foot. In the Dark Knight he could have easily killed that garbage truck driver that he slammed into head with the tumbler which smashed the cab into the ceiling. The refusal to kill makes him look soft, and it makes it a lot less believable, it's actually an insult to people in law enforcement because it implies that you can fight crime without ever needing to kill anybody. On the Gotham thing, yea Tim Burton's Gotham may have looked fake at times but it looked more like Gotham than Chicago.
-
We are not shooting in 3D, myself Chris or bale do not want this movie in 3D and it won;'t be ahappening
-
this movie is doomed to be even more dissapointng that star wars 1. you can fucking bank on that, seriously...... is there any way for this film to live up to the hype that will surround it for the next 2 years or so? <p> nope.
-
Only way Robin works in a Nolan Batman movie. Just make her 18ish.

This isn't even news. Jonathan Nolan "Has Written A Script" is a whole world away from "working on a script" when he answered a phone call. Jesus Christ. This is all just bullshit that everybody already knew. Leave it to Herc's lame ass for some shit like this. Or should I say... EVIL Herc! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA <p> Douchebag
-
no one could have concluded that based on common sense at all. Thank-you so much for your valuable non-ego boosting updates. Your humility is to be admired.
-
let's guess. you are one of thoe morons who doubted Avatar and Inception and looked forward to Episode 1 and Transformers. In other words, a noob
-
I just googled him. How did you find out about him?
-
Any good Tony Curtis stories? And do you know anything about this new Wes Anderson film, "Moonrise Kingdom"?
-
It aint happening! Or it is happening just not the way he said it. Or it won't happen EXACTLY the the way he meant it to happen. Or it happened but it DIDN'T happen And you can take that to the bank!
-
I don't think that would be too far fetched for the Nolanverse
-
What's with all the negative jackasses who just have to "guarantee" that the movie will suck. Grow up and stop being such cynical butt wipes.
-
Then I'll give a shit about a batman movie without the joker. Listen to me Nolan. Everyone who could possibly give a fuck about Superman fighting Batman is about to grow old and die and you will have lost all impact. The train will have left the station. The 3rd Superman film should have been called Superman VS Batman and introduced Bruce wayne instead of Richard pryor. We'd still be getting reeves superman movies if this had happened. He would never have bothered with horses. He'd be playing that role into his old age like roger moore. It's called escalation. You absolutely must introduce superman into the dark knight universe and bring it up to where it belongs.
-
1 How old is that picture?<P> 2 Who the fuck uses Bing?
-
Just to clarify, neither Nolan brother had anything to do with Terminator Salvation as your re-posting of Nolan copying Burton had stated.
-
Bob Orci was yesterday here in aicn and told us that they have just finished the first draft of the script and are very pleased with the general direction that they have taken with the story, Bob didnt want to reveal more info about the script,he confirmed that a very well-known TOS villain will be the baddie in the film but he stopped there,he didnt say if it was Khan or someone else. So since you are helping with the script,is it possible to shade a bit of light on what is the general story of the sequel and who that famosu villain might be? <p>Or are you obliged by contract not to reveal anything about the script until it is finalized? thats all.
-
He's pretty well known in the UK. He's mainly a comedy actor but his range is unbelievable. He is made for the role and fits perfectly into Nolan's 'realworld' Batman. Would love to see his Penguin backed up with a properly done Bane. 2 superbrains V Bats deductive and combat abilities could top TDK.
-
Dark Knight was awesome, but lets be honest; at least half of what made that movie so good rested squarely on the shoulders of Heath Ledger's already iconic Joker performance (which was in turn only amplified by his untimely death). Nolan and Co. may not admit this openly, but they sure as shit know it to be true, and I think they will most certainly compensate for that. NO villain, regardless of who plays it or how well written the charcaetr is, will be able to SURPASS Ledger's Joker from TDK. However, with a lot of effort, creativity, and quality acting/writing/filmmaking, they could make it equal. Ultimately, I have a feeling that Batman 3 will be regarded as a better film overall, with TDK remaining somewhat more popular soley because of the Joker's involvement.
-
1) Who cares? <p>2) Resilts are ALL that matters. <i>I submit that anybody that disqualifies Ms. Gugino after THAT pic is a frozen-pissed whistle dick.
-
TDK said everything important and fundamental to the Batman saga. Either don't make 3 or take it into the future and the Dark Knight returns. There simply is no interesting sequel to the Joker save one in which Wayne must reinvent Batman to deal with the likes of the Mutant Gang. That would be balls nasty.
-
so lets all get that straight right now
-
Holy Shit! That guy NEEDS to be the penguin!! Get JettL to call Chris Nolan & Warners right fucking now!!
-
with Siouxsie and the Banshees 'Kiss Them For Me' playing in the background... just an awesome scene.
-
Carla Gugino is a massive babe. My balls hurt just thinking about her.
-
for Penguin. They'd never do it, but I bet he'd be awesome in that part.
-
Is EVERYTHING here cribbed from other sites? I suppose you get some credit for the links, but damn--show some self respect and do original reporting and reviews (please none involving Del Toro or Rodriguez).
-
They still have the whole "batman as a villain angle" to explore, not to mention the limitless possibilities of NEW things to be added to the character/mythos. I honestly don't get how people think EVERYTHING about Batman has been said with TDK. It doesn't even come close. I mean, I'm no Batman uberfan(I don't read comics and my only real experience with the character is from movies/tv) but based purely on the complexity of the character and world, there are still countless stories to be told. Saying that "there's nothing left to explore" just seems like a cop out to me.

-
I think Michael Stulhburg is his name? It's funny because the only thing I'd seen him in before was A Serious Man, and from that I NEVER would have imagined him as a gangster type, but he does manage to make it fucking work somehow.
-
what everyone was safely assuming is now more official. As for the script, yeah we new it was happening. Still no title or villians, that would have made the announcement more exciting. But at least we know it's all in the works!
-
he slammed the big guys head into the bell and let him drop, but that was not a confirmed kill, probably crippled though.<P> The Joker had the choice to let go prior the the gargoyle giving way and he didn't, not even manslaughter.
-

the main villians will be Catwoman and Riddler. I'd put money on it.

Emily Blunt = obvious choice for Catwoman
by Planty_McPlant_Plants_His_Plant_At_AICN
She's the perfect age (she'll be 29 in 2012), she looks the part, she's a classy actress with a solid body of work behind her and she's a Brit which will be a bonus in Nolan's eyes no doubt. I'd be amazed if she doesn't get it. As for using an actress in her late thirties...I just don't think it would work. Partly because Catwoman is an agile catburglar, and a woman nearing 40 running along rooftops just seems ridiculous.
-
Lets see here, he threw a dude down a 20 story shaft in the Bell tower, he blew up every Joker henchman that worked in the cosmetics factory minus those who were lucky enough to be on helicopter/parade duty that night. He then he killed the Joker and even stated "I'm going to kill you" before he did it which made it premeditated. In Returns he stuck dynamite down a clowns pants, set a fire breather on FIRE with the batmobile exhaust. He used up at least one of catwoman's 9 lives. He killed the ice princess :) jk. And he used bats to send Penguin to a watery death. So there you go Yes he killed some people and I love him for it Burton's movies kicked ass!
-
Even if its just a cameo. And this is going to be quite boring if it features Joseph Gordon Levitt as the Riddler and Marion Whatserface as Catwoman.

when he/she/they is/are announced, people will be disappointed. Then when they announce who has been cast as the villain(s), people will be pissed off! Don't pretend you didn't exclaim a giant "WTF!" when you first heard Ledger was cast as Joker. Whoever they go with it will be good in the end. Really, the biggest obstacle Nolan faces is overcoming the hype of TDK.

I really don't care. I will be happy with pretty much any of them or a new villain that doesn't exist yet in the Batman mythos. These movies have been more realistic than the Burton films so I think some villains, if they go that route, would need to be modified. The o0ne thing against doing the Riddler would be the that he is too similar to the Joker.

that still does not explain the factory full of Jokers goons that Batman blew up. Or the countless goons he shot with his mounted mini-guns and missiles on the Batwing. Joker was absolutely a confirmed kill. Batman said he was going to kill him and he made good on it when he tied his leg to the loose Gargoyle.

he didn't die in the first one...everyone knows he's an immortal. Nolan has already said this would be the end of the batman story in his universe...so what better way to end it than to bring back the league of shadows when Gotham is at it's lowest point. They'll bring in Talia as the love interest, and we'll probably see a 2nd or 3rd tier villian used much like scarecrow in the first film. watch for it

WHAT THE FUCK IS CAPTAIN_AMERICAS_COCK_SHAPED_HELMET TALKING ABOUT
-
Answer: Getting banned. That's what.
-
A lot of options really for a Nolan film. Riddler of course, an arms dealing Penguin could work. But why not league of shadows with Talia behind it? Then you can also have Black Mask, or Dead shot in it or even Bain as a second villain. League of Shadows would tie together BB and the third film. Since I doubt they will do a fourth they will want to connect them all one way or another. I would also push for Hush. Or hell Scarecrow, the film will be more about Batman redeeming himself to Gothan. A big time villain might break that up too much so why not a smaller villain?
-
Or Egghead, can totally see Nolan doing Egghead.
-
What villain could they pick that will work in the more 'realistic' Gotham they've created? The adaptation of Joker was perfect and plausible. No obvious villain fits that bill.
-
Be ballsy. Have Bats go down.
-
Joe Chill is still alive.. Batman runs with the criminal facade to get close to chill so he can kill him and retire as Batman after he satisfies his need for vengeance..<p> I know that everyone is under the impression that Two Face is dead, but considering we were fooled with Ra's Al Gul and Commissioner Gordon's Deaths already... ONCE AGAIN I HAVE TO SET JETTL STRAIGHT AND EXPOSE HIM AS A LIAR
by J-Dizzle
First of all, the script did not come pouring out after a macguffin. Me and John had to go through 4 bloody drafts (we collaborated on the first 2 drafts with Goyer) before sending a script to Chris.<br /> <br /> Second, no real shooting has taken place (not until next year), and Elijah Wood definitely wasn't involved in anything. The whole Elijah Wood rumor started when James McAvoy was spotted in a meeting with me and Chris in Calabasas. Some idiot mistook McAvoy for Elijah Wood and spread the false rumor.<br /> <br /> Third, no one has been cast as Selena Kyle. Incidentally, she was written in earlier drafts of the script, but Chris decided against her being in the movie. As far as Chris is concerned, he just wants one villain and one villain only. The reason being that Chris was frustrated with trying to incorporate 2Face in a movie already dominated by a megavillian - the Joker. Hence the reason for having just one villain. It allowed us to put more focus on making the villain more of a threat to Batman. Having more than one villain would have diluted that aspect of the movie ala Spiderman 3.<br /> <br /> Fourth, Sacha Baron Cohen did not audition for any roles. Chris did actually consider making an approach for him, however he was extremely put off by Bruno (walked out of the movie theater after the penis waving scene). After the Bruno debacle, Chris wanted nothing to do with Cohen (much to my and John's relief!)<br /> <br /> Fifth, Dent *IS* in the script. JettL is CORRECT about that! Well, sort of. Actually, not really. Dent is mentioned for a couple of seconds, but that's about it. Sorry if any of you were holding out hope for a 2Face return but Chris made it very clear to Aaron Eckhart that he was dead (see "no more than one villain" explanation above).
-
.. and after Arkham City he wont do the Joker anymore?<p> Its been mentioned a million times before but I gotta say I'm totally down with the idea. Batman going to Arkham to ask the Joker a few questions is something that oozes Batman. They just revisited the idea again recently with Under the Red Hood animated movie and I cant count how many times hes done that in the past. He's always going to Arkham to speak to someone.
-
I know Nolan said the Joker won't be back for the next one, but you have to ask if he ever could really come back? Nobody will ever be able to match Heath Ledger's Joker.
-

I'd actually like to see Riddler done as the anti-Joker, sort of like a Hans Gruber character where he leaves clues and hints, but they're ultimately part of a shell game intended to confuse and distract while he accomplishes his actual goals and objectives. Go so far as to make him somebody who utterly refuses to kill as opposed to the cliched "mass murderer" that so many people are clamoring for. Catwoman would be awesome if done right. Have her be someone who happened upon one of those bulk shipments of gear intended for one of Wayne's shadow organizations which leads her to using HIS tech to become a thief. Tail? It's the equivalent of the grapple thing he had in BB, but looks like a tail when deployed. Objective? She's a thief, not a murderer. Set it against a backdrop of the criminal element fighting with each other to see who is in charge, and name it GOTHAM.

He included the LOST numbers into the mug shot due to being a fan of the show. (That is a Catwoman cover from about four years ago.)<p>Riddler will probably be the main villian in Batman3. I hope Black Mask is used as well.<p>Catwoman will be the love interest and I hope Marion Cotillard or Emily Blunt plays her.<p>Christian Bale better lose that fucking raspy Batman voice.

Nolan has clearly shown in the past two movies that he is willing to make adjustments in order make a great movie. He can still put Riddler, Penguin, and/or Catwoman and make them interesting and different from each other.

It's got to go full circle. With new villians in familiar roles
by Nautilus_nrm1
(A-Story) The League will be back with Talia as the love interest until it's revealed to Wayne who she actually is. (B-Story) A Catwoman plotline works with the ongoing storyline of vigilantism from Dark Knight, and perhaps is integral to resolving the A-story. The A and B stories conflict, perhaps as conflicting love-interests? *shrug* (C-story) If the Penguin is involved, he's somehow tied in with the League of Shadows as well, perhaps as the new 'frontman'. Just my opinions and theories.

... but the actors from this continuity. How awesome would that be?? I think that's the only way Nolan could beat Raimi on a third-film FAIL.

The pic is by cheesecake comics artist Adam Hughes, for a cover for the now defunct Catwoman solo series (the one rebooted by Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke, which was brilliant until first Cooke, then Bru jumped ship).

That would be an awesome tragic story if they did it the way that the animated series did. Poisen Ivy would be another great villan.

Olivia Wilde and Jeremy Renner. Olivia Wilde in particular would just tear that part up.
-
with batman adopting Dick Greyson and showing him the batcave, thus ending one chapter of the Batman mythos and potentially starting another story all together. In that way, Nolan would be staying true to the mythology of the comics whilst completing his "Dark Knight" trilogy. I personally don't see why the introdction of any character would be impossible as long as it was done in the context of the two previous movies. So perhaps Robin would be Bruce's project (much in the same way that Raas Al Ghul took Bruce himself under his wing) being trained in the style of the league of shadows from an early age to be a better version of Batman himself.
-
Nolan and WB are going to milk this franchise until they dry it up completely and then they will reboot it again. <p>I am waiting for the Superman vs Batman movie which will eventually happen sooner or later.
-
The Reaper ala Year 2 would be totally PERFECT for this trilogy. Mask of the Phantasm was great, but I'd really love to see a year 2 Reaper story for B3. Catwoman would be a great match because now Bruce has decided to alienate anyone he cares about, it would bring in a romance angle from the Batman aspect, not Bruce.
-
...have you ever heard of SuperShadow? Google him. And then know that nothing you type is relevant. If they were going for the Riddler, I'd like to see John C. McGinley. But that's not likely. Whichever villain they've chosen, they'll be centred in reality, if pushed as far to the limits of eccentricity as they feel they can get away with. So I think Catwoman would be a good choice but might not be the sole "villain".
-
But Angelina Jolie really is the onlu logical choice...with Rachel Weisz as second but I have a horrible feeling Ellen Page would get it...Jettl - enlighten us please...
-
I don't wanna have to kick your ass.
-
Grow up, people.<p>I don't need an overly sexy Catwoman.
-
I also reckon they'll properly finish their Batman's story. He'll possibly either hang up the cape, be exposed or die. I don't think any future Batman films would link to Nolan's work and would set up another movie universe. Just no more origin tales please.
-
USe Catwoman and Penguin instead. And Robin(but kill him).

... there really aren't that many villains that can fit in Nolan's Bat-world, You can't have someone with super powers etc. Riddler - could work but the the Joker did the whole terrorist leaving clues in TDK. Penguin - as a gangster/arms dealer could work but have him hard as fuck, built like a ton of bricks a la Kingpin. Catwoman - Meh. Imagine Bale doing the rooftop scene with Catwoman from Batman Forever. <br> Catwoman - My, aren't you frisky tonight? <br> Batman - GRHHH BRGHHH RRRGGGHHHH <br> Bane - Maybe. Might be good to see this Batman actually have to have a fight.<br> I just can't watch Bale as Batman without cringing. Who's idea was it to pick someone with the biggest overbite since Butthead? Nolan will have to really pull something out of the bag with this third movie. I'd sooner see an all new villain to be honest but can't see the studio wanting that at all.

Catwoman, & Penguin as the main villian(s) could just be a smoke screen. Nolan has been uncomfortable w/the comics source material since day one. (Goyer had to twist his arm to put the grappling-hook gun in for fuck's sake!) Watch him instead go w/Talia Al Ghul to finish her father's work - destroying Gotham City & Batman once & for all. Now it's possible you may see some of the big-name baddies, but in cameos as Talia-financed super villians to give Batman's resistance a beatdown a la the comic book series KNIGHTFALL. We may even see Liam Neeson back as RAS, but more likely in flashbacks to establish who Talia is rather than "resurrected" by the Lazarus Pit. Think about it; Nolan's always been about realism w/his approach to Batman. And I don't suddenly see him changing his ways to a more fun approach like IRON MAN for the final part of his trilogy. Just not gonna happen.
-
Might have been suggested before - I haven't trawled through all 1,000,000 posts, but I think she'd be good. She's got the physique of a catburgler & can also do tough as well as sexy (if you like that sort of thing)
-
It's Ashley Pridgen, the model best known as the Snorg Tees girl. A very nice lady, from what I can gather. She's a comics fan, and has done some art-for-art's-sake photoshoots in various vostumes. She also says that her figure actually makes it difficult for her to get paying work as a model -- believe it or not.
-

I loved Batman Begins. It was one of those Cinema experiences where I didn't want the movie to end because it got progressively better and better with an ending that simply made me want the next installment there and then. and then we got The Dark Knight, which had virtually none of the elements that made BB so great. No longer was the focus on Bruce Wayne/Batman, he barely registers this time, no, much like the batman films of the 90's, the focus here is on the villians, specifically the joker, with a final third rush job focussing on Two Face. Nolan and his scripters went from making one of the best superhero origin stories ever to making what I can only describe as 2 1/2 hours of convoluted plot thats glaringly flawed and not at all fun to watch. its got some very good scenes, its got some good performances and it's got a very interesting ending but let me put it this way. when i think Batman Begins, I think of Bruce beating the crap out of those prison goons at the start, I think of Batman dragging Marcone out of his car and headbutting him before dissapearing above. I think of batmans face when his enemies are poisoned with hallucinagenic, I think of the batmobiles chase through gotham rooftops and the punch up ending aboard the monorail. it was a blast from start to finish. I cant think of a single scene in the Dark Knight that comes close to any of this. it wasnt a blast. it was a bore quite frankly.
-
Nobody knows who the Riddler is until the end...and it turns out to be Batman himself, faking everybody out in order to trick them into uniting against a common enemy. Also Batman needed to create the Riddler to take the blame for the deaths of Catwoman and Chief Gordon, both of whom Batman murders in a jealous rage after discovering that Catwoman has been cheating on him with Gordon.
-
yes but what about Alfred, does he make Bttman a sandwich in this?
-
Loving this Talkback so far! Now, my two cents...</p> Both Nolan's Batman movies so far have taken their cues from popular stories from the comics - Batman Begins was similar to Year 1, and The Dark Knight was close to The Long Halloween. I honestly think the next one will do the same, and I'd go with a variation on Dark Victory (which included a fugitive Batman, and ended with him adopting Dick Grayson). Replace the Hangman elements of that story with The League of Shadows, and I think you've got the closing chapter of a trilogy, with a satisfying end that would please fans and casual viewers alike... not to mention set up future movies.</p> I think Catwoman should be included - there needs to be some kind of 'love' aspect. Marion Cottilard would be my choice; don't know what she looks like in a catsuit, but I think she suits 'Selina' very well.</p> As far as titles go, I expect them to go for something different again, maybe incorporating 'Dark Knight' for marketing purposes. They wouldn't touch Dark Knight Returns, but how about 'Hunt The Dark Knight'? 'Dark Knight Triumphant' maybe?</p> Whatever, I can't wait for this one...
-
... but to use any and every oportunity to do some ass kissing and dick sucking on Jar Jar Abrams. In this case, using the name of Jonathan Nolan to make a reference to Jar Jar because of some to-be Tv hsow. Really, fuck's sakes, man! God, give me strenghs!
-
Did 99% of movie-goers know who Ras Al Ghul or even Scarecrow was before Batman Begins? Hell, even some of the people I know who've seen the Batfilms don't even know "The Scarecrow" had a name...they just think he's a crazy psychiatrist with a bag over his head. <p>Point being, Nolan can make any villain work, as long as the villain fits the story. And a story with Catwoman just seems boring and been there. He loves her! But she's a villain! Yawn.

Hey, maybe she and Elmo can be partneres in crime? The "Hot and Cold" duo?
-
You have him being brought in as a profiler by Gotham PD to help catch Batman, obviously Gordon knows that Batman is no villain but he has to go along with the hunt. So you have Hugo Strange as almost a Jack Crawford style character – someone who profiles Batman and knows exactly ‘who’ he is psychologically and knows how to pull the right strings to get Batman into a position where he can be caught. However as Strange has been a profiler on many cases before he has begun to become ‘infected’ by the madness that has followed in Batman’s wake. So while you can structure it that he is the ‘hero’ to Gotham after helping the police catch a couple of high profile killers – say Scarface and Mad Hatter but in effect is the villain because he will literally stop at nothing to catch Batman. <P>You want Catwoman in then you have her as a cat burglar that Strange manipulates – Strange realizes that Batman made a decision to save Dent and let Rachel Dawes and reasons that his psyche will not allow him to ‘forgive’ that decision so Selina Kyle becomes a pawn in the game.
-
Batman dies. Batman becomes a campaign legacy against crime.
-
That's who the movie should have. Maybe have the Penguin as a minor character, maybe as the guy who actually hires Bane, but otherwise, it should focus on those three, and do a modified version of the "Knightfall" storyline.
-
I love that idea! Hugo Strange was always a great character - in the 'Gothic' run of Legends of the Dark Knight in the early 1990s, I think, and a cool episode of the animated series. Nolan likes the classic villains, so I could see Strange turning up...</p> Good stuff!
-
But, the studio will never go for it. It'll be Riddler and Catwoman and I'll lose all faith in Nolan for being a studio whore. Fuck him anyway, I need a Superman/Batman movie asap.
-
...is reason enough to be excited. After the last two Batman efforts I have complete trust in Nolan and his team producing a completely fitting conclusion to the trilogy.<p>The opportunity to do something fantastic, something that will generate a legacy, is very apparent and would not, I'm sure be lost on Nolan et al. (I'm not including JettL1993 here, he's a liability!)
-
Then Robin surely has to be introduced. Because he has to 'pass the mantle', so to speak. Or at the very least, set the wheels in motion.
-
Nolan and Goyer sat down and wrote a treatment. They handed it to Jonah to write the script. He then gave it back to Chris to make a final draft. I'd be surprised if they didn't use the same methodology for this film. <p> Even if Goyer hasn't had any influence on the next Batman film, he's still working with Nolan on the new Superman.
-
They're both too similar to the Joker to use either Penguin or Riddler in this movie. I'm hoping for Superman sent to track Batman down.
-
D.Vader Countdown
-
So it isn't Riddler or Catwoman, it could be both. Rachel is dead, so there needs to be a love interest. Enter the Pussy. Then there needs to be a villan too. They won't go obscure since they already used Ras and Scarecrow from #1. That leaves Cat and Riddler, which I think they can pull off with good casting and a tight script.
-
The Riddler gives Nolan an opportunity to make a truly mindfuck of a Batman film. It could be like Batman crossed with Inception.

Nolans trilogy is about Batman and Gotham...not the villians
by grassynohl14
I will put money down that neither the riddler nor catwoman will maken appearance. Nolan used Joker and Two Face because they were grounded in reality.I firmly believe we'll get a 2nd tier villian (i think BANE is a possiblity, but not likely)...but Liam Neeson will make a return after Christian Bale falls for Talia played by Marion Cottilard. This will give us closure which Nolan has already said he wanted. This will be the end of his trilogy, and the end of batman in his universe. Anyone hoping for Robin is just ridiculous...if you actually think they will introduce Dick Grayson, you are dreaming...they've already said "no" to Robin. It will all be leaked soon enough, and I'll sit back and enjoy being right.
-
Jack, ol' boy, how are you, you scotish devil? Long time no chat.<br><br>About the "smoked sausage", by which you mean the "chouriço", i think the ship that carried it sunk. It's in davey jones' locker.<br><br>I'm sorry that TDK was not much to your liking. Me, i was blown away by it. The movie reminded me why i love movies so much.
-
I actually liked Dark Knight, though I hated Batman Begins. I still don't like Christian Bale's awful Batman though. They should do Dark Knight Returns...years after Dark Knight, Batman is a fugitive long forgotten, things have turned to shit, gangs have taken over and Bruce Wayne decides to return. Now when I say do "dark knight returns", I don't mean haviing Superman, Joker etc...but something of that thematic quality.
-
Either Alfred or Lucious will die in this one... My money is on Alfred...and it will be an awesome scene in the movie. It will be what drives Batman to breaking point...
-
is Catwoman holding up the numbers from Lost?

I almost missed him... almost. But not quite.

He would translate well to the screen. Your plot idea would make an excellent carryover from DK. As well as briefly introducing to the audience a future rogues gallery of bats. Great post.
-
I seem to remember a lot of people freaking out & making jokes about "Broke Bat Mountain" when Ledger was announced as Joker. I'm pretty sure most of those people now praise TDK. Whoever gets cast, I'm sure most of us will be surprised but will love it when we see the film.

Haven't read the whole TB, so sorry if someone suggested it already. It would let's Nolan do a quick origin story that has parallels to Wayne's, and Bale gets to fight to regain his identity after a courageous rehab.
-
Because the artist is a Lost fan
-
I don't think we'll see the Riddler, just because he is too close to the joker, too soon.<p><p> But I think a corporate criminal like the Penguin gives Nolan a chance to look at financial and political corruption, very timely. And, as for Catwoman...I'd prefer not, but like many have pointed out, without her you have to find another way to introduce a female lead. So yeah, I'd say it's a near certainty we get the "Cat burglar" cat woman tied into this somehow. Maybe as a canard to keep Bats from realizing what the Penguin is up to.
-
The theories regarding Batman 3's similiarity to "Dark Victory" are probably on the money, but, I have to admit he's a lot harder to peg than the Abrams Trek stuff. (I'm thinking Talosians for the next one, but I digress) So, I can only guess, but I'm thinking maybe Catwoman, maybe Ras or Talia (she may end up being combined w/Selina Kyle), and/or the Riddler. No Harvey, possibly Crane again... T.'.
-
You're not going to see anyone with anything close to a 'super-power' and, yes, the serum that made Bane counts in that category. <p><p> The villains in Nolan's films have to be ordinary humans who present a problem because of their twisted minds or morals. Hence, Penguin or Riddler, or even Killer Croc (think bad acne). And yes, Catwoman.<p><p> It's a shame because, boy, would I LOOOOVE to see Man-Bat. <p><p>Also, fair chance they do end with the adoption of Dick Grayson - parents killed as a result of some crime in the movie, Bruce realizes he can't have a love life (or do this forever) so he adopts Dick as heir to the Wayne legacy in every sense.
-
The dramatic possibilities for Catwoman, given the universe that Nolan created are endless and ripe for good drama. And ass kicking.

Call it "Batman: Peep Show"

People wonder: will they see Batman/Spiderman whothehellever if Catwoman's not in the next movie or some other dippiteedoo. Just write a freaking good movie! The Spiderman comic arc from a few years back when Spidey got his ass handed to him by this vampire-type who didn't give a fuck about Spidey's jokes or uncle-issues or anything was one of the best uses of Spiderman ever. It showed who the character behind the goofy costume was, because no matter how badly the vampire-type kicked his ass, Spiderman kept coming back to stop him, even at one point calling Aunt May to tell her he loved her because he thought he wasn't coming back. The villain came to respect him in a way for that tenacity. That's why people respond so favorably to the train-rescue scene in Spiderman 2: Peter Parker is this little dude that says no matter what I will not give up. Batman: they've established his character is out there. Gotham knows he's out there. He's made himself an outlaw. How do you take advantage of that situation if you're among the criminal element? I'm not going to answer this; I don't get paid to spec Batman stories. But that's how good movies--hell,, good anything--gets made. Not this plastic committee crap (and, dammit, nut punches for anybody defending Orci, Kurtzman, Abrams, or anybody else without the ability to inject a single whit or originality or wit into THE NEXT BIG REIMAGINED THING; nut punches to anybody who thought the apple munching scene in Flare Trek was even remotely cool). A Geek-gasm over a well done Bane would be good, but I'd take a well done story involving Batman fighting his ass off against a group of ninjas the entire movie who not only are pissed he put a hurt on their boss in the first movie, but hate the fact that this rich dickwad basically runs around pretending to be one of them. Make Bane one of their dudes with an exoskeleton if you don't wanna go the chemical route. Don't even call him Bane. Do a movie about what scares Batman, and it ain't bats. It's loss. Let the villain take away the rush Wayne gets from being Batman, go all Dr. Phil up in his shit. By God's Left Teat, though, whatever you do, you movie-making bastards, please don't let the corporate puppet strings show. There are a lot of good ideas on this talkback. May the powers that be hire a few of these dudes.

As that's exactly the way Nolan has gone with his casting choices in general (with the exception of Bale who was a fan favorite for Batman a long time before being cast). If the Riddler or Catwoman are in the movie I reckon Nolan could well cast people nobody here or anywhere else has yet mentioned. Personally for The Riddler I would go for Day Lewis, Ed Norton or maybe even Sacha Baran Cohen. As for Catwoman, really dunno, but I like the idea of Marion Cottilard. Of course if these characters are included and cast with actors I hadn't thought of I'll slap my head and go why didn't I think of that!

Should be the title. Can't wait for them to finish the un-fun Nolanverse.
-
After the ending tease in Batman Begins, everyone knew the Joker was going to be the big baddie in TDK, but I don't think anyone really anticipated the characterization that Nolan and co. ultimately delivered. It wasn't just a notion of fitting the Joker into the realistic Nolanverse; Nolan effectively re-created the character entirely. make-up instead of acid-induced bleached skin, a scar instead of a frozen smile, an anarchistic troublemaker rather than a clown-themed homicidal prankster... the Joker in TDK is really NOTHING like any other, classic Joker incarnations, but the tremendous writing and tremendous performance of Ledger made it work(its arguably the greatest incarnation of the character, ever). In that vein, I think its impossible to predict how a villain like the Riddler or Catwoman could be shoe-horned into Nolan's continuity. How do we know that Nolan won't take a character like the Riddler and COMPLETELY turn it on its head like he did with the Joker? Honestly, I'm excited by the possibility. Thus far Nolan's films have been pretty weak adaptations of the source material, but damn strong films. he takes the character names and loose thematic qualities and warps them to fit the story he wants to tell. He has made the property progressively his own, and I expect that to become even more pertinent in his final Batman go-round.
-
According to a bunch of reports circa late 2006, Sean Penn was the first person to be offered the part of The Joker. other people who were considered(but not offered the part, to my knowledge) were Paul Bettany, and virtually unknown Australian actor Lachy Hulme. Ultimately, Ledger got the part, and the rest is history.
-
He'd be really great as RIDDLER, PENGUIN, or any other Nolan villain.
-
I also believe that Nolan will further evolve his ideas of these well established characters in his next and final Batman film. Even though every man and his granny has been speculating about The Riddler being the chief baddie in Batman 3 since TDK opened I reckon that the character is easily the best suited to Nolan's particular skills as a filmmaker. I doubt they'll go down the homicidal route with the character and what we'll get will be a character that bears little resemblence to the Joker in any way whatsoever in terms of motive, behaviour, look etc. The core defining aspect of The Riddler is his narcisstic need to play mind games with Batman through elaborate puzzles, something Nolan revels in. In the comics (at least the ones I've read)I always felt that this character had the potential to be something more, and more often that not came across as a Joker knock off or whatever but could have been so much more. In this regards I really hope that Nolan has him included predominantly in this script he's currently working on and creates something uniquely brilliant just as he with The Joker (not forgetting Heath Ledger's fleshing that out brilliantly). Oh and I said earlier that Day Lewis, Norton & Baran Cohen would be my top picks, well Day Lewis would be way ahead by a few miles, he's also my top choice for Catwoman...the man can play anything
-
thats for fact
-
since he is a criminal now.But Riddler is part of some sinister plot, probably by Talia,to destroy Gotham.Batman gets fed up running away from Riddler,so when he finds out their true plan,he decides to stop running and take action.Batman uncovers their plan, saves Gotham, clean his name and becomes again Gotham's favorite hero. <p>And you are naive if you think that Nolan will stop in Batman3...
-
its pretty obvious
-
Yeah, I can definitely concede to most of those points aside from the Batman actually killing bit. I could see where you could dig that in an Elseworlds sort of way, but I have a fondness for the old, arguably corny Batman as much as the newer gritty one. I will definitely agree with the fat rapper ass-whooping.

Penguin- too fucking daft for Nolans world. Unless Gotham is terrorised by a guy hanging around at the zoo smelling awfully of fish...<br><br> Catwoman- I want to see the actual prostitute side of the character, taking it up the arse in a back alley and turning on her punter who is strangely dressed as a bat, hence her hatred of Batman.<br><br> The Riddler? Jim Carey killed whatever joy I once found in the character.

-
Haven't we seen too many Mob bosses in Nolans takes to actually gfive a damn about? <br><br> Carmine Falcone...Sal Marone...... the mob angle has been done to Death, unless as Batman as a renegade is linked with "The Freak Penguin" as an associate. That might work as he is intent on busting up the organisation from within. <br><br> The Riddler character just takes me back to Frank Gorshin and Jim Careys green spandex......too OTT and far too close to the Joker to be interesting. <br><br> Catwoman would have to be SERIOUSLY damaged goods. Having her as Waynes love interest would be tantamount to disaster.
-
The ganster angle is done to death. No black mask or a gangster-like penguin for the sequel please. <P>Riddler is not necessary to be a looney ala Jim Currey.Have him as a representation of a subject that you want to explore in the movie, like what happened with Joker. You can use him to explore the subject of videogames and reality television.Have him as the producer and host of a tv reality show, where people take part and try to beat his various puzzle role-playing games where if you lose you die in fake. From there you can follow various routes: someone dies for real in one of his games,Riddler loses his show,he gets crazy and turns GC into a giant puzzle where random citizens get killed if they cant solve parts of his puzzle. <P>Or maybe a serial-killer starts killing GC citizens using the puzzle games in Riddler's show.Batman asks the Riddler help to discover the killer until he discovers that Riddler is the killer. <P>Or have him create a virtual online RPG/puzzles videogame called the Riddler.the purpose of the game is to find out who is the Riddler, who is the online game-master of the game.Videogamers start playing but after a while a serial-killer starts killing them when they solve the puzzles of the game. <p>Yeah i know the last one has been done in a way in a TAS episode, and it is a bit far-fetched for Nolan's universe but i think it will be a cool way to have him combine his Inception dream concept into the virtual reality of a game in a Batman movie. <p>anyway.

I really had hoped this wouldn't happen.. I mean, I try to hide it, but I must say I have a "bit" of "affinity" for the "epic masterpiece" that is The Dark Knight. One of the things I "sort of enjoy" about it is how it's fully self contained. It all wrapped up very satisfyingly for me. I, myself, perhaps shockingly, have complete utter blind faith in whatever Nolan does. I don't give a FUHHHHCK how close minded and subjective that makes me, Nolan's detachment is just perfectly right for ME.. I like cold, impersonal, objective basically "little boys with a lot of money flipping big rigs end over end in downtown Chicago and doing cool REAL stunts that they always wanted to do" setpiece construction of the movie.<p><p>The man has said himself in the past, when asked about a 3rd Batman - how often do you see a third movie in a franchise that's really that good? Perhaps I just feel a third Batman movie will NEVER be able to top The Dark Knight, and I'll come to associate just a tiny bit of disappointment with the "watchful protector".. and I don't want that to happen.

I agree about the many great possibilities the Riddler presents for a Nolan film. I also agree though that the Riddler has always been the poor man's Joker and obviously would need to be buoyed by another villain or 2. It starts out with Batman on the run from the law. I'll bet that they have something fresh and original planned for the superhero genre.

Unlike the rest of you I don't give a shit about hiring some stripper hot tot big titted actress to play your fantasy catwoman. I want someone interesting. Someone who looks intelligent and the sort that Bruce Wayne would be interested in. Not so hot as to attract too much attention to herself, but nice looking and mature enough to be attractive. They can play with the Catwoman character to make her more serious, more obsessed with being a thief. Playful and outrageous when Catwoman, docile as her alter ego Selina Kyle. A nice duality that can be thematically tied into Bruce Wayne struggling with being Batman while being hunted. Both he and her are wanted as Batman and Catwoman, they can be unlikely allies when necessary, and Bruce Wayne could see himself being attracted to someone who resembles Rachel a little while simultaneously exploring her darker sides and desires for Catwoman as Batman. Carrie Ann Moss is good here, and she has her fighting experience from the Matrix along with wearing tight leather outfits. It'll be a fresh and different and 'realistic' take on Catwoman and also ties in with Nolan's love of exploring the sort of person under the mask who wants to vent her frustration out by becoming a thief. So here I'm pitching in my vote for Carrie Ann as Catwoman. And I think a Penguin that's a rich aristocrat/arms dealer/underground criminal network supporter can be a good antagonist where we can explore the rich corrupt aristocrat side of Gotham which is a perfect place for Bruce Wayne to infiltrate while hiding from the cops, along with interest for jewels and wealth for Selina Kyle. This can be marketed as Nolan's answer to Tim Burton's beloved Batman Returns. They can also title it 'The Dark Knight Returns.'

I watched part of the Dork Knight on HBO and all I can say is, whoever made these movies completely fucked them up. Not ONCE during the fight did the word "POW!" flash across the screen -and where the fuck was Robin? It's almost like they're trying to hide the fact that Bruce Wayne is a homo. If you want to see someone do justice to Batman, check out Axel Braun's porn version. Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0t0u1ofiv0 Fuck Christopher Nolan!

What if they make Harley Quinn as a devoted fangirl of the Joker who is trying to live up to his name and preserve his memory by creating as much chaos as possible, but she not as smart as the Joker. Kind of like Magneto's Acolites in the 90's after he supposedly died and they continued his mission in his place. Harley Quinn could hire a few other minor villians to help her like Bane, Killer Croc and the Mad Hatter, etc?

Year 2 type story.... Sure it's a cliche to make a part 3 story where the good guy goes evil. But TDK left a perfect lead up... plus it was an actual story from the comic books.... BATMAN STARTS SPORTING A HANDGUN!!!

Nolan will have some kind of reference in B3 about Joker,he is not going to ignore him like that, especially when there is a big possibility to have him back with a re-casted actor in B4. <p>your idea about Harley Quinn is a nice way to do that, keep the memory of Joker alive.BUT i dont want her to be the main villain but a secondary,low-profile villain who will give by the end of the film, the hint that Joker returns in B4. <p>provided ofc that Nolan wont use Joker in B3 again but he is too smart to do that.

The mob have played a vital part of Nolan's Batman series in that they're basically the reason for Wayne becoming Batman in the first place. Gotham's corruption stems from gangster overlords such as Maroni & Falconi who have poisoned the entire judicial system and created the worst problems that plague the city. By the end of TDK most of the chief mobsters have been either incarcerated by Dent or offed by Dent & The Joker as in Maroni & Gambol's cases. This leaves the remnants of these organisations scattered, cue the emergence of Penquin or Blackmask to fill that vacum and bring whats left of Gothams criminal organisations under their control. This would bring the mobster element of the trilogy full circle!. Wayne set out to eliminate crime in Gotham by going after its chief architects (ie the old school mobster types such as Falconi & Maroni) but by the end of the third film he has inadvertenly created a new criminal regime with a freak at the head of it. Penquin would seem the logical guy for that. After apprehending the movie's main villain (Riddler most likely) and with Penquin in power as Gotham's newly minted chief ganglord overseeing the entire city's criminal infrastructure Wayne has put himself in a position where he has to always be Batman. The cops can't deal with the likes of The Riddler & The Joker as Batman only really knows them and with the presence of any freak criminals in the city whether ensconed in Arkham or not then he has to be there to safeguard his city.

Does anyone really doubt that if Catwoman's in the movie, Cotill

Nolan is well known for sticking with his aces.<p> So, I'd say DiCaprio for Black Mask, Gordon-Levitt as a clean-faced, head-shaved Arkham intern Joker and I wouldn't find odd if Tom Hardy ends up playing Bane.<p> Oh, and for the Riddler, it's now or never for Robin Williams (I think he did a great job as the shady maniac in Nolan's Insomnia).

Damn.

I meant only in a small cameo. Maybe a court room scene or something.

according to a report on comicbook.com that now has been removed. IGN now have a piece on this that says Cottilard was offered either Catwoman or Talia Al Ghul but had to pass because of a scheduling conflict!Because this story was taken down at apparently Warners request lends it a fair bit of credibility. Whats interesting is that the piece says either Catwoman or Talia! We're all assuming Catwoman but Talia could well be the femme fatale in B3, it would link to Begins as she's Ra's daughter and Nolan rarely makes the obvious choice's so who knows!

He's not quite a staple of the rogue's gallery, and most people have cast him off after the mistreatment of the character in "Batman and Robin." But the origin of the character is an interesting one, and if you downplay the "Venom" angle just enough, it could work in Nolan's continuity. In the comics Bane's father was a Caribbean revolutionary that escapes indictment, leading to his infant son(Bane) being forced to serve his father's life sentence. he spends his entire adolescence in prison, honing is various skills into becoming a killing machine and criminal mastermind, and eventually escapes. From there, Nolan could take the concept in any number of directions... Bane unleashes all hell in Gotham, drawing Batman out into the open and setting up a Batman/Bane/Police/Mob turf war that threatens to tear the city apart, perhaps. I wouldn't want to see "The Breaking of the Bat" at all in the film, but I think there's still a lot of potential there. especially with Vesuvio's suggestion of Tom Hardy in the role... thats inspired casting, if you've seen Hardy in the similar life-long-prison-inmate movie "Bronson."

That run of issues (I think from the Legends of the Dark Knight series) that featured Dr. Hugo Strange was called 'Prey'. I reread the collected edition, and I could really see a tweaked version of this as Nolan's next movie. The synopsis on the trade paperback:</p> "Nowhere to run...</p> When the hunter becomes the hunted, when the crime fighter becomes a fugitive from the law, when the forces of good and evil turn against him, who can the Batman trust?</p> The Dark Knight Detective must take on his most implacable opponents yet in his fight to protect Gotham City, and prove that he is not the revenge-crazed vigilante society fears."</p> Sounds close to what we expect...
