Sam Raimi And Bill Block To Join The Earth Defense Force!?

Andrew Marlowe (writer of HOLLOW MAN, AIR FORCE ONE, and creator of CASTLE) has a script called EDF - looks like Bill Block (producer of W., DISTRICT 9, and VANILLA SKY) and Sam Raimi may well be setting the picture up at Warners. THIS piece at Vulutre says the publication has gotten at look at the script, and describes it as a mix of "Top Gun with Independence Day and add a pinch of The Last Starfighter, and you'll get EDF — which stands for "Earth Defense Force," though we hear the title may change — about Earth's response to an imminent alien invasion." Interestingly, in the years after INDEPENDENCE DAY's release, there were unconfirmed rumors that a sequel to that picture would involve a second alien invasion of our planet - but the aliens arrive to find Earth has back-engineered and hybridized the alien tech left behind in the first film, resulting in a far more technically advanced human civilization than those bastard invaders bargained for. From Vulture's description, sounds like at least one gag in EDF may be kinda/sorta similar (but maybe not)- mankind scurrying to "create super-aircraft and weapons" to protect against an alien invasion that should arrive in about 10 months.
